Abstract:In this article, the authors investigate the diverse dimensions of a knowledge society. First, the relevant literature on post industrial societies is reviewed to identify the key constituents of successful growth and development. The authors then propose a 10-dimension framework within political, economic, social and technological parameters that describe the state of evolution of a given knowledge society. Knowledge assessment scores, human development indices, technology readiness scores and competitiveness scores are selected as composite indicators of knowledge societies. Proxy indicators are assigned for the dimensions, and secondary data was gathered from reputed international sources. Partial Pearson Correlation Analysis was done between the proxy indicators and the composite scales to determine the direction and strength of relationships. Hygiene factors and competitive factors of a knowledge society are distilled from the empirical results and recommendations are suggested to address some areas of concern when pursuing policies for knowledge based development.

Abstract:Introduction: Rotator cuff disease frequently causes shoulder pain and is diagnosed using various radiological methods alongside history and physical examination. Arthrography has traditionally been employed for this purpose, but newer non-invasive techniques such as ultrasonography (USG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are increasingly used. However, no single method is universally agreed upon as the best diagnostic tool, each having its own limitations. Objectives: To evaluate how effectively ultrasound and MRI can diagnose rotator cuff tears. Materials and methods: Seventy patients suspected of having a rotator cuff tear underwent investigations at the Radiology Department of Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Karad. USG and MRI examinations were done on the same day, along with a detailed history. USG was conducted using a GE LOGIQ P9 machine with a high-frequency 3-12 MHz transducer. MRI was conducted using a 1.5T Siemens Magnetom Avanto scanner. Results: Pain and stiffness are the most common complaints in rotator cuff tears. The predisposing factors include male predominance, increasing age, dominant hand use, and trauma history. The supraspinatus tendon is the most frequently injured, with partial tears, especially articular surface tears, being more common than full-thickness tears. Clinical examinations, USG, and MRI are valuable in diagnosing rotator cuff tears. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that USG may not be as reliable in detecting rotator cuff tears as once believed. A positive ultrasound result is more trustworthy than a negative one. In contrast, MRI demonstrates greater sensitivity and overall diagnostic accuracy compared to both ultrasonography and clinical assessment for detecting rotator cuff tears.
Diagnostic Value of Ultrasonography in Determination of Knee Joint Pathologies with Comparison to MRI

Abstract:Knee pain is a common musculoskeletal symptom in the general population and results in significant disability, reducing the quality of life and inducing financial burden to the health care system. This cross-sectional, descriptive type of observational study was conducted with a total 52 patients having symptomatic knee joint disease in the Department of Radiology and Imaging, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh from April 2019 to September 2020. This study was performed to find out the effectiveness of ultrasonography as a modality of investigation in the determination of knee joint pathologies with comparison to MRI, considering MRI as the gold standard. The majority of the patients 13(25.0%) were in the age group of 15-25 years with mean age was 39.88±15.308 years. In detecting synovial effusion, bursal collection, baker's cyst, tendinopathy and tumor pathologies ultrasound had 100.0% sensitivity, specificity and accuracy for each whether bursitis has 100.0%, 96.4% and 98.07% respectively. MCL tear had 100.0%, 97.8%, 98.07%. LCL tear detection showed 100.0%, 97.8%, 98.07%. PCL tear had 66.7%, 95.9%, 94.2%. ACL tear had 50.0%, 97.6%, 88.4% sensitivity, specificity and accuracy. Meniscal tear showed 66.7%, 97.8%, 88.4% sensitivity and accuracy. In all cases difference was statistically significant with a p value <0.0001 which strongly supported against null hypothesis. From this study, it is concluded that high-resolution USG showed high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy compared to MRI in detecting common knee abnormalities, and could be considered as the first-line imaging modality in the evaluation of knee pain.

Abstract:Over the past four decades Delhi, India, has witnessed rapid urbanization and change in land use land cover (LULC) pattern, with most of the cultivable areas and wasteland being converted into built-up areas. Presently around 40% land is under built-up area, a drastic rise of 30% from 1977. The effect of changing LULC, at a local scale, on various variables-land surface temperature (LST), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), emissivity, albedo, evaporation, Bowen ratio, and planetary boundary layer (PBL) height, from 1991–2016, is investigated. To assess the spatio-temporal dynamics of land-air interactions, we select two different 100 km transects covering the NE-SW and NW-SE expanse of Delhi and its adjoining areas. High NDVI and emissivity is found for regions with green cover and drastic reduction is noted in built-up area clusters. In both of the transects, land surface variations manifest itself in patterns of LST variation. Parametric and non-parametric correlations are able to statistically establish the land-air interactions in the city. NDVI, an indirect indicator for LULC classes, significantly helps in understanding the modifications in LST and ultimately air temperature. Significant, strong positive relationships exist between skin temperature and evaporation, skin temperature and PBL height, and PBL height and evaporation, providing insights into the meteorological changes that are associated with urbanization.

Abstract:Background: The hip is a large weight-bearing joint that is stable and has a lot of movement. Many pathological illnesses, including neoplastic, infectious, arthritic, and congenital and developmental disorders, can affect it. Thus, early pathology denition and diagnosis are essential for doctors to follow up and manage patients properly. The purpose of this study was to assess MRI's use in the diagnosis of painful hip pathologies. Subjects and Methods: There were 50 patients included in this analytical cross sectional study in total. The ASRAM Medical College in Eluru's Department of Radio-Diagnosis was the site of this investigation. A Siemens 1.5 T Magnetom AERA MRI machine, a 1.5 Tesla superconductive scanner, was used for MR imaging. Avascular necrosis was seen in 30 of the 75 Results: total hip joints aficted (including bilateral hips), osteoarthritis in 15, and septic arthritis in 11 hips. Nine hips were found to have inammatory arthritis, one to have femoroacetabular impingement, and two to have an acetabular labral tear. One instance each of a primary and metastatic tumor was reported, and one patient was described as having a normal hip joint. The preferred method for describing the various hip joint problems Conclusion: is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which can identify particular markers that help with an accurate diagnosis of the uncomfortable hip joint.

Background:Early surgical management of full-thickness traumatic rotator cuff tears (RCTs) may optimize functional outcomes, prioritizing timely diagnoses. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are highly sensitive and specific modalities for RCT diagnosis, yet MRI remains the gold standard diagnostic tool despite increased costs and potential delays in care. Ultrasound can provide same-day diagnosis, thus possibly expediting care.Hypothesis:The use of diagnostic shoulder ultrasound alone in the orthopaedic surgeon's office could increase the efficiency of diagnosis and care of traumatic full-thickness RCTs compared with MRI.Study Design:Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.Methods:A retrospective chart review of patients with full-thickness traumatic RCT diagnosed via ultrasound or MRI who subsequently underwent rotator cuff repair with 1 of 2 ultrasound-trained surgeons between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2019, was performed. Inclusion criteria included patients ≥18 years old, documentation of a first-time traumatic event, and the patient's desire to have immediate surgical management. Revision surgeries, long-term shoulder instability, and nontraumatic injuries were excluded. Basic demographic data were collected, and the number of preoperative office visits and the timing from initial evaluation to diagnosis and surgery were calculated for the ultrasound and the MRI cohorts. A power analysis of 0.8 with an alpha of .05 required 38 patients per group.Results:Overall, 133 patients were diagnosed via MRI compared with 76 via ultrasound. Besides body mass index, there were no significant differences in demographic variables or insurance status. Compared with the MRI cohort, patients in the ultrasound cohort received their diagnosis almost 2 weeks faster (P < .0001), were scheduled for surgery almost 3 weeks faster (P < .0001), and underwent surgery 2 weeks faster after initial evaluation (P < .0001) while requiring nearly half as many clinical visits (P < .0001). Regression analysis confirmed that ultrasound significantly reduced time to imaging, scheduling, and surgery after initial evaluation while requiring fewer clinical visits (P < .05).Conclusion:The study findings indicated that ultrasound was a time-saving alternative diagnostic modality for traumatic RCT compared with MRI without compromising standard of care. These results were achieved independent of patient insurance status, disability index, or other demographic variables.

Abstract:Background: Knee osteo-arthritis is widely prevalent in the elderly population in our society and associated with significant morbidity and poor quality of life. Early diagnosis of the condition can enable timely and proper care for the patients. Magnetic Resonance Imaging, CT Scan, Ultrasonography and plain radiography are the different modalities of imaging that are commonly used for detection and diagnosis of knee osteo-arthritis. Aims and Objectives: To find out the early osteoarthritic changes of knee by Magnetic Resonance Imaging and compare those findings with conventional radiography, high frequency USG and CT scan findings. Materials and Methods: Patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis (OA) as per American College of Rheumatology guideline criteria (n=56) underwent imaging of the knee using plain radiography, ultrasonography, CT scan and MRI. The imaging findings studied in the patients were joint space narrowing (JSN), meniscal abnormality, Baker’s cyst, cruciate ligament abnormality, knee effusion, subchondral cyst, and loose bodies. A comparison between radiography, CT scan and USG was done for the imaging findings with MRI as the reference standard. Z-test of proportionality was used to find statistically significant difference for the three imaging modalities. A P<0.05 was deemed statistically significant. Results: The mean age of the patients was 61 years (38 males). The tibiofemoral compartment was most commonly affected. CT scan was more sensitive than radiography in detecting sub-chondral cyst (P=0.018) and loose bodies (P=0.004). USG and MRI were equally sensitive in detecting knee effusion (P=0.22) and synovial thickening (P=0.10). CT scan and MRI were equally sensitive in detecting subchondral cyst (P=1.00) and loose bodies (P=0.22). Conclusion: While CT imaging was more sensitive for detection of subchondral cysts and loose bodies than conventional radiography, it was as sensitive as MRI in detecting these findings in the study group. Additional study is warranted to assess diagnostic performance of CT scan and MRI in the diagnosis and progression of knee OA.
Deciphering acute shoulder trauma with normal initial X-ray: Contributions of ultrasonography and MRI

Abstract:Introduction: Shoulder trauma with normal radiographs is a frequent emergency presentation. The predominance of pain makes clinical examination unreliable, and complementary imaging is often needed for diagnosis. The aim of the present study was to assess the contribution of ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in deciphering such trauma. The study hypothesis was that MRI can confirm most diagnoses and reveal occult lesions. Methods: 48 patients with a median age of 33 years (IQR, 22-48.75), admitted to the Emergency Department between February and September 2016, were prospectively included. All had normal X-ray and underwent emergency and deferred emergency (D+7-10) clinical examination, and US and MRI at D+7-14. The same examinations were repeated to establish diagnosis and initiate treatment. MRI was considered as gold-standard for definite diagnosis. Results: Diagnoses comprised: 14 shoulder contusions; 13 rotator cuff tears; 8 acromioclavicular sprains; 6 fractures: 3 greater tuberosity, 2 humeral head, 1 lateral quarter of the clavicle; 3 subluxations or anterior dislocations with spontaneous reduction; 1 posterior dislocation with spontaneous reduction; 1 case of resorption of calcification in the pectoralis major tendon; 1 case of coracobrachialis strain; and 1 partial pectoralis major detachment. Concordance with final diagnosis was 42% (20/48) on initial clinical examination and 52% (25/48) on reassessment. On US, concordance was 71% (34/48), with 82% positive predictive value for cuff tear and 0% for instability. MRI was contributive in all cases, revealing 48 abnormal signals in 41 patients, thus establishing 48 diagnoses. Conclusion: Except in precise diagnostic situations such as rotator cuff tear, US is not a contributive examination, completely overlooking shoulder instability and bone contusion. MRI should play an increasing role in deciphering these traumas. Level of evidence: II; prospective cohort study.

Abstract:An oculometric survey was performed in a Greenland Eskimo population, covering 98% of selected age groups. From this sample 839 persons without corneal abnormalities, aged 7–89 years, formed the basis of a central corneal thickness (CT) study. A sample of 98 Danes in Greenland was measured for comparison. Using Haag Streit 900 pachymeter No. I, the average of three readings from both eyes was taken to represent the individuals. In Eskimos a Gaussian distribution of CT values was found with mean and SD: 0.518 + 0.032 mm in males and 0.529 + 0.029 mm in females. A significant corneal thinning with age was seen, predominantly in males (0.0007 mm decrease per year). Thus in adults an increasingly significant sex difference was observed (0.019 mm above the age of 40), while boys and girls differed only little (0.005 mm). A subsample with primary angle‐closure glaucoma showed an insignificant CT excess.
Ultrasonography Outperforms Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Diagnosing Partial-Thickness Subscapularis Tear

Abstract:PurposeTo evaluate the diagnostic reliability of ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for subscapularis (SSC) tears with shoulder arthroscopy as the gold standard, and to investigate the diagnostic value of two MRI signs (lesser tuberosity cysts and subcoracoid cysts) for SSC tears.MethodsWe consecutively enrolled 437 patients who were scheduled to undergo arthroscopic rotator cuff repair from January 2019 to December 2020. Patients with previous shoulder surgery or shoulder fracture, recurrent shoulder instability and systemic inflammatory disease were excluded. Preoperative US and MRI of the shoulder were performed and interpreted with a standardized approach. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and accuracy of US and MRI were calculated using arthroscopic findings as the gold standard.ResultsOf the 437 patients, 157 had SSC tears confirmed at the time of arthroscopy, 126 of whom had partial-thickness tears. US correctly diagnosed 122 of 157 patients with SSC tears, with an overall sensitivity of 77.7% (CI 70.6%-83.5%), which was significantly higher than that of MRI (49.7%, CI 42.0%-57.4%, P<0.001). For partial-thickness SSC tears, US correctly diagnosed 93/126 positive patients and 276/311 negative patients. This resulted in a sensitivity of 73.8% (CI 65.5%-80.7%), specificity of 88.7% (CI 84.8%-91.8%), and accuracy of 84.4% (CI 80.7%-87.5%). As with MRI, the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 38.1% (CI 29.7%-47.2%), 86.5% (CI 82.3%-89.9%), and 72.5% (CI 68.2%-76.5%), respectively. Lesser tuberosity cysts and subcoracoid cysts were two MRI signs with high specificity (98.2% and 94.6%); however, their sensitivities were relatively low (19.8% and 33.8%).ConclusionUS is a reliable and accurate diagnostic method for SSC tears, especially in easily missed partial-thickness tears. Lesser tuberosity cyst and subcoracoid cyst are highly specific but insensitive MRI signs for SSC tear.

Abstract:The fibrogenicity of seven alumina samples was tested in rats by intratracheal instillation, and in mice by intraperitoneal injection. Histopathological studies were carried out on all animals. As an indicator for inflammatory reaction, a bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) was performed in rats. Lactate dehydrogenase activity and protein content of the supernatant as well as the free-cell population of the lungs were studied. None of the five aluminas used for primary aluminum production showed any fibrogenic potential, while the other two, a chemical grade and a laboratory produced sample, induced fibrotic lesions. A correlation between cytological and biochemical parameters studied in BAL and the fibrosis determined by histology could be established for the quartz-treated rats, but not in the alumina-treated animals.

Abstract:Abstract Objective Recent studies suggest that the knee is frequently involved in PMR. In this study, we aimed to determine whether the US assessment of the shoulder and knee discriminates between PMR and other differential diagnoses and improves the accuracy of the 2012 EULAR/ACR provisional classification criteria for PMR. Methods We consecutively enrolled 81 untreated patients who received a diagnosis of PMR. These patients were divided into two groups based on the final diagnosis made at 1-year follow-up: PMR-definite group (n = 60) and PMR-mimic group (n = 21). We also enrolled age/sex-matched untreated RA patients with shoulder pain from an independent cohort (RA group, n = 60). All patients underwent comprehensive US assessment of the shoulder and knee for synovitis, bursitis, tenosynovitis, tendinitis and ligament inflammation at baseline. Results US scores for tenosynovitis, tendinitis and ligament inflammation better discriminated the PMR-definite group from the PMR-mimic and RA groups than do those for synovitis or bursitis. Among logistic regression models to identify US variables that were associated with the PMR-definite group, the best fitted model included two US variables: the bilateral involvement of the shoulder (long head of biceps, supraspinatus or subscapularis tendon) and the bilateral involvement of the knee (popliteus tendon or medial or lateral collateral ligament). Incorporating these two items into the 2012 EULAR/ACR provisional classification criteria numerically increased the accuracy to classify the PMR-definite group. Conclusion US assessment of the tendon/ligament-related lesions in the shoulder and knee may improve the accuracy of the 2012 EULAR/ACR provisional classification criteria for PMR.

Abstract:Background: An increased or decreased critical shoulder angle (CSA) is a known risk factor for osteoarthritis, lesions, and re-ruptures in the rotator cuff. A CSA greater than 35° correlates with degenerative rotator cuff tears, while a CSA of less than 30° correlates with osteoarthritis in the glenohumeral joint. The diagnostic gold standard for its determination is X-ray or MRI. Objectives: The primary objective of this research was to assess the viability of utilizing sonography imaging as a diagnostic tool to determine the modified critical shoulder angle (mCSA). This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of sonographic techniques in accurately diagnosing CSA compared to MRI. Study Design and Methods: A cohort study was carried out (level of evidence 3). The CSA (MRI) and the mCSA (ultrasound) were assessed retrospectively by two independent board-certified investigators in 109 patients with shoulder pain by MRI and musculoskeletal sonography. The CSA in the MRI dataset was determined using routine protocols and then compared to the values assessed using the modified sonography-assisted method (mCSA). Both results were analyzed with linear regression to determine a possible correlation. All investigations were performed by a DEGUM (German Society for Medical Ultrasound)-certified specialist in musculoskeletal sonography. Results: A total of 112 patients were included in this study, namely 40 female patients and 72 male patients with a mean age of 54.7 years at the time of the investigation. The mean CSA in MRI was 31.5° ± 3.899, and the mCSA in sonography was 30.1° ± 4.753. The inter- and intraobserver reliability for the CSA was factual with values of 0.993 and 0.967. The inter- and intraobserver reliability for mCSA was factual as well, with values of 0.989 and 0.948. The ANOVA analysis did not reveal a significant difference between the CSA and the mCSA values, and linear regression determined the R2 value to be 0.358 with p < 0.05. Conclusions: Diagnosing the mCSA using sonography is a safe and valid method. No statistically significant differences between the results in MRI and sonography could be seen. Although this is a retrospective, single-center study including only Caucasian mid-Europeans, and with the known limitations of ultrasound imaging, it nevertheless shows that sonography can be used as a simple, cheap, and fast technique to assess a modified CSA, which shows very good correlation with the standard CSA without losing the diagnostic quality.

Abstract:Rotator cuff injuries are a prevalent cause of atraumatic chronic shoulder pain, imposing a significant healthcare burden. This article reviews the clinical presentation, diagnostic imaging modalities, practice variations, and economic efficiency considerations in the evaluation of rotator cuff pathologies. Ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are the primary imaging methods for diagnosing rotator cuff injuries. US provides real-time visualization but has limited tissue penetration, while MRI offers detailed anatomical information but is not a dynamic process. Studies show that MRI is superior to US with higher sensitivity and specificity. MRI is the gold standard, particularly for surgical planning, but US remains relevant when MRI is not feasible. Both require standardized protocols for evaluating tear dimensions and muscle atrophy. The United States often favors MRI, while Canada advocates for US as the initial choice. Economic considerations play a significant role in selecting imaging modalities. While US is cost-effective, it may necessitate subsequent MRI examinations, contributing to inefficiencies in the diagnostic process. Studies suggest that a combined approach of US and MRI is less efficient and cost-effective than MRI alone. However, the use of both modalities rather than MRI alone is common in clinical practice, adding to healthcare expenses. In conclusion, the choice of imaging modality for rotator cuff pathologies should consider factors such as diagnostic efficacy, cost-effectiveness, and resource availability. Radiologists play a pivotal role in guiding this selection and ensuring comprehensive evaluations. Future considerations should include the revision of management guidelines and the potential inclusion of shoulder pathologies in healthcare coverage to optimize patient care and healthcare expenditure.
Evaluation of MR-derived simulated CT-like images and simulated radiographs compared to conventional radiography in patients with shoulder pain: a proof-of-concept study

Abstract:Abstract Background To evaluate the diagnostic value of MR-derived CT-like images and simulated radiographs compared with conventional radiographs in patients with suspected shoulder pathology. Methods 3 T MRI of the shoulder including a 3D T1-weighted gradient echo sequence was performed in 25 patients (mean age 52.4 ± 18 years, 13 women) with suspected shoulder pathology. Subsequently a cone-beam forward projection algorithm was used to obtain intensity-inverted CT-like images and simulated radiographs. Two radiologists evaluated the simulated images separately and independently using the conventional radiographs as the standard of reference, including measurements of the image quality, acromiohumeral distance, critical shoulder angle, degenerative joint changes and the acromial type. Additionally, the CT-like MR images were evaluated for glenoid defects, subcortical cysts and calcifications. Agreement between the MR-derived simulated radiographs and conventional radiographs was calculated using Cohen’s Kappa. Results Measurements on simulated radiographs and conventional radiographs overall showed a substantial to almost perfect inter- and intra-rater agreement (κ = 0.69–1.00 and κ = 0.65–0.85, respectively). Image quality of the simulated radiographs was rated good to excellent (1.6 ± 0.7 and 1.8 ± 0.6, respectively) by the radiologists. A substantial agreement was found regarding diagnostically relevant features, assessed on Y- and anteroposterior projections (κ = 0.84 and κ = 0.69 for the measurement of the CSA; κ = 0.95 and κ = 0.60 for the measurement of the AHD; κ = 0.77 and κ = 0.77 for grading of the Samilson-Prieto classification; κ = 0.83 and κ = 0.67 for the grading of the Bigliani classification, respectively). Conclusion In this proof-of-concept study, clinically relevant features of the shoulder joint were assessed reliably using MR-derived CT-like images and simulated radiographs with an image quality equivalent to conventional radiographs. MR-derived CT-like images and simulated radiographs may provide useful diagnostic information while reducing the amount of radiation exposure.

Abstract:Objectives This study aimed to characterize and compare the features of traumatic and non-traumatic lesions causing knee pain through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Method The study was conducted at a tertiary care center, with data sourced from patients visiting the outpatient and in-patient departments. It involved a descriptive cross-sectional research design focusing on patients referred for knee MRI scanning. The sample size was calculated using Cochran's formula as 112 for symptomatic patients with knee pain with a 95% confidence interval. The MRI findings in 112 patients were analyzed and associated with a history of trauma. Results The average age recorded was 35.38 years. Females made up 41.07% (n=46) of the sample, while males accounted for 58.93% (n=66). Among the participants, the majority (n=82; 71.43%) had a history of trauma, and the most common MRI finding was joint effusion (n=74; 66.1%). The second most common was anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries (n=71; 63.4%), followed by meniscus injury (n=40; 35.71%). The study confirms that those with history of trauma are at a higher risk (p<0.05) of sustaining injuries like meniscus and ACL tears, collateral ligament damage, bone contusions, chondromalacia patella, and joint effusion. Conclusion In conclusion, the consistency of our findings with existing studies reinforces the pivotal role of MRI in the evaluation of knee pain. Despite its limitations, including cost and accessibility, MRI remains a gold standard for diagnosing a wide range of knee pathologies, offering unparalleled detail and accuracy that significantly enhance clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.

Abstract:Objectives: Shoulder pain secondary to various aetiologies is a common musculoskeletal complaint worldwide, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the most accurate imaging method for evaluating shoulder pain in all age groups. While the patterns of shoulder MRI abnormalities in various demographics have been reported, data on sub-Sahara African populations are still sparse. This study aims to describe the imaging features and spectrum of shoulder joint pathologies on MRI in adult Nigerians. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective review of the shoulder MRI of 100 adult Nigerians (with and without trauma) from September 2020 to December 2021. Their clinical data and shoulder MRI findings were extracted and analysed. Statistical significance was set at P ≤ 0.05. Results: There were 64 males and 36 females aged 18-82 years. Right shoulder MRI was done in 53 subjects (53%), while the left shoulder was studied in 47 (47%). Supraspinatus tendinopathy (73%), acromioclavicular joint arthropathy (68%), and subacromial-subdeltoid (SASD) bursitis (64%) were the most frequently detected pathologies. Other demonstrated derangements include glenohumeral joint effusion (24%), long head of biceps tendon sheath effusion (18%), labral abnormalities (16%), subcoracoid bursitis (4%), Hill Sach's deformity (3%), anterior glenohumeral dislocation (2%), fatty degeneration of the supraspinatus/infraspinatus muscles (2%), adhesive capsulitis (1%), and other bony abnormalities (contusion, erosion, subchondral cysts). There was no significant difference in the frequency of shoulder abnormalities between the male and female subjects. Conclusion: Acromioclavicular joint arthropathy, SASD bursitis, and rotator cuff disorders were the dominant pathologies in the participants' shoulders.
