Abstract:Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) is recommended for climacteric peri- and postmenopausal symptoms. The rate of use of MHT in China is much lower than the western regions. Therefore, a survey was conducted for the understanding and utilization of MHT among clinical staff in various hospitals of China. A total of 3216 eligible questionnaires were included for the evaluation. According to 19.2% participant opinion, MHT could relieve menopausal symptoms, whereas the majority had no knowledge of the benefits and risks of MHT. The most common concern about MHT was the risk of cancer and about 430 (13.4%) and 176 (5.5%) participants were apprehensive that MHT could increase the risk of breast and endometrial cancer, respectively. This survey demonstrated that the knowledge of clinical staff was not comprehensive and they should be educated more about the use of MHT so that this knowledge can be imbibed into the general population. Impact Statement What is already known on this subject? Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) is recommended for climacteric peri- and postmenopausal symptoms. The rate of use of MHT in China is much lower than the western regions. What do the results of this study add? Only 19.2% of the respondents were of the opinion that MHT could relieve menopausal symptoms. The most common concern about MHT was the risk of cancer and about 430 (13.4%) and 176 (5.5%) participants were apprehensive that MHT could increase the risk of breast and endometrial cancer. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? The survey demonstrated that Chinese medical professionals had some understanding about MHT, but their knowledge was not comprehensive. Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To explore the knowledge and prevalence of menopausal symptoms as well as the use and attitude toward hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in Chinese women.METHODS:A cross-sectional study was conducted between May 2011 and April 2012 in Shanghai, China. The structured questionnaire addressing sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge and prevalence of menopausal symptoms, and knowledge and attitude towards HRT and its use were investigated.RESULTS:3,619 women aged 40-65 years were included in the analysis. The majority of the women had knowledge of menopause. Symptoms were prevalent in 16.1% of premenopausal women and in 49.3% of peri-, post- and surgical-menopausal women. Back and joint pain, sleeplessness, fatigue and sweating/hot flushes were frequently reported. HRT awareness among women was 3.5% and was related to menopausal, working and marital status; 75 (2.1%) women had used or were using HRT, of which 57.3% used HRT with a doctor's prescription and 29.3% experienced side effects from the use of HRT.CONCLUSION:Most Chinese women had knowledge of menopause and thought menopausal symptoms should not be treated. The awareness of HRT was poor and influenced by menopausal, working and marital status. Chinese health care providers have to assume responsibility for educating women about menopause and HRT use.

Abstract:This study examined the prevalence of formal intimate partner violence (IPV) education during basic and advanced practice programs and its effect on the likelihood of screening for IPV. A national, random sample of 553 nurse practitioners completed a written survey documenting their IPV educational experiences in both their basic and advanced practice programs. Although 77.9% had received IPV education at some point in their nursing education, this education had a far greater effect on their subjective feelings of competence and comfort in working with IPV patients than it had on the likelihood of their screening or identifying IPV victims in their practice. Nurse educators must provide students with the words, body language, and screening measures to use to screen effectively. Study implications for nursing education, limitations, and recommendations are discussed.

Abstract:The aim of the study was to specify prevalence and severity of menopausal symptoms among middle-aged women and to understand the factors associated with women's perimenopausal healthcare-seeking behavior in Shanghai, China. A community-based cross-sectional study was carried out involving 3147 participants aged 40-60 years. A combination of stratified sampling and quota sampling was used. Out of the total 16 districts in Shanghai, 7 were purposefully selected in consideration of covering both central and suburban areas, population distribution, and willingness to participate. Two communities were randomly selected in each of six districts. Four communities were randomly selected in the 7th district considering the relatively low coverage of central population in the sampling frame. Eligible women were recruited continuously according to the house number and invited to participate in the study until 200 participants were recruited in each community. A structured questionnaire was designed to collect information including sociodemographic data, menopausal symptoms, and experiences in seeking perimenopausal healthcare. The severity of menopausal symptoms was assessed with the modified Kupperman menopausal index (mKMI). The mean age of all the participants was 51 years. 33.13% of the participants were premenopausal, 14.52% were perimenopausal, and 52.35% were postmenopausal. The total prevalence of menopausal symptoms was 73.8%, while among the perimenopausal women, the symptoms were the most common (81.70%). The top three reported symptoms were fatigue (38.08%), hot flushes and sweating (33.65%), and joint ache (28.81%). Perimenopausal and postmenopausal participants had a higher score of the mKMI than premenopausal women (p < 0.01). Of the women who had symptoms, 25.97% had sought healthcare. A logistic regression model revealed that employment, menstruation status, and the mKMI were significantly associated with healthcare-seeking behaviors (p < 0.01). We concluded that prevalence of menopausal symptoms was relatively high among middle-aged women, with perimenopausal women showing the highest level. However, only a small percentage of the participants sought healthcare. Carrying out health education may be a measure to improve the healthcare-seeking behavior.
Knowledge and personal use of menopausal hormone therapy among Chinese obstetrician-gynecologists: results of a survey.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:Obstetrician-gynecologists' (ob-gyns) knowledge of the benefits and risks of-and attitude toward-menopausal hormone therapy (HT) have evolved since the publication of the Heart and Estrogen/progestin Replacement Study and the Women's Health Initiative. The survey investigated Chinese ob-gyns' perception and personal use of-and attitude toward-HT. METHODS:A total of 2,000 self-administered questionnaires were sent to female ob-gyns who attended gynecological endocrinology workshops in 15 provinces and cities in China from February to May 2013. RESULTS:A total of 904 eligible questionnaires were collected (response rate, 45.2%). Most of the respondents knew that HT could relieve menopausal symptoms (97.7%) and prevent osteoporosis (93.5%). Most (69.4%) of the respondents thought that HT would increase the risk of breast cancer, and 52.9% thought that HT would increase the risk of endometrial cancer. The most common concern regarding adverse effects of HT was risk of breast cancer, followed by risk of endometrial cancer, risk of venous thrombosis, and weight gain. One hundred twenty-three of 324 symptomatic respondents (38.0%) reported HT use, and a further 28 respondents (8.6%) had tried transdermal and vaginal estrogen creams. CONCLUSIONS:These findings show better knowledge of HT among Chinese ob-gyns compared with the general Chinese population. However, HT use is relatively low, and ob-gyns seem to be overconcerned with the risks of HT. HT education must be promoted among Chinese ob-gyns to enhance the proper use of HT in the general population.

Abstract:Objectives: The aim of the study was to describe the major complaints of menopausal symptoms among middle-aged women who initiated healthcare seeking for menopausal symptoms and to understand the factors influencing women's decisions to seek perimenopausal health care in Shanghai, China. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in five hospitals in Shanghai. Women aged 40 to 60 years at their first visit to the perimenopausal outpatient departments/clinics were investigated in person over a 3-month period. Information on sociodemographics, menopausal symptoms, and experiences in seeking perimenopausal health care was collected using a structured questionnaire. Menopausal symptoms were assessed with the modified Kupperman Menopausal Index (mKMI). Results: A total of 316 women were enrolled in the study, with an average age of 50.5 years (SD: 5.1 y). The prevalence of menopausal syndrome (mKMI >6 points) was 80%, with 7% of the cases being severe. The top five reported symptoms were hot flushes/sweating (62%), fatigue (54%), sleep disturbance (51%), mood swings (40%), and joint/muscle pain (40%). The median interval between symptom occurrence and seeking perimenopausal health care was 5.0 months (IQR: 2.0-23.3 mo). Cox regression analysis revealed that older age, no health insurance, employment, multiple symptoms, sleep disturbance, urinary incontinence, and visits to nonspecialized departments were significantly associated with a longer delay in seeking perimenopausal health services (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The prevalence of menopausal syndrome was relatively high among 40- to 60-year-old women who initiated healthcare seeking in Shanghai. Months of delay occurred before they sought perimenopausal health services. The delay was related to age, the nature and number of symptoms, working status, and health insurance. Improvement of the menopausal health knowledge in Chinese middle-aged women may lead to more timely healthcare seeking. Professional and accessible perimenopausal health services are in high demand in Shanghai.

Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical performance and related factors of perimenopausal syndrome,cognition and demand for perimenopausal knowledge in community-dwelling women.Methods During June 2009 to December 2011,a cross-section survey of perimenopausal symptoms as well as cognition and demand for perimenopausal knowledge was conducted in 1546 women aged 45 to 65 years in Shanghai Changfeng Community.Results The average menopausal age of this population was (49.5 ±3.7) years.The total prevalence of perimenopausal syndrome was 75.7％ (n =1094) and 81.4％,76.5％,65.4％ in women with primary school,middle school and college education background respectively (P=0.007).Sexual disorders (80.8％),hot flushes & sweating (64.7％) and fatigue (55.8％) were the most common symptoms of perimenopause.The most serious symptoms affecting daily lives included urinary symptoms,unsatisfactory sexual life and hot flushes & sweating.And 391 (27.1％),238 (16.5％),285 (19.8％) and 296 (20.5％) women did not know the concept of perimenopausal syndrome,possible symptoms,health measures or symptoms requiring medical attention.The common methods of acquiring the knowledge of perimenopause were communicating with peers (458,31.7％),consulting professionals (364,25.2％) and searching health care information (225,17.6％).Conclusions In women,the prevalence of perimenopausal syndrome remains quite high.And a majority of them lack a sufficient knowledge of perimenopause and need professional guidance.

Abstract:Menopause is a specific physical and psychological transition period for women, during which they experience a series of menopausal symptoms. Menopausal hormone therapy is an important treatment for improving menopausal symptoms. Helping women correctly understand menopausal hormone therapy is a prerequisite for increasing the acceptance and utilization of menopausal hormone therapy by women. Physical examinations are an important method for women to master their own health status and detect potential health problems, and in recent years, an increasing number of women have actively participated in physical examinations. Therefore, this study aims to comprehend the prevalence of menopausal symptoms and attitudes towards menopausal hormone therapy among women aged 40–60 who underwent physical examinations, which would provide a useful reference to reduce the prevalence of menopausal symptoms and improve acceptance of menopausal hormone therapy.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the perimenopausal symptoms and attitude toward menopause in female medical staffs in Peking University People's Hospital.Methods Data were collected from 596 female doctors and nurses aged 40 to 60 years old who took part in routine health examination in July,2012.Questionnaires were completed voluntarily, including questions about perimenopausal menstruation,perimenopausal symptoms and knowledge about menopause.Results 1.557 eligible questionnaires were collected.The average age was(46.3±3.7)years old.63 persons were postmenopausal and the average natural menopause age was(47.7±4.7)years old.2.Among the 557 participants,331had perimenopausal symptoms.As for the knowledge of menopausal impacts,291 of them(52.2%)chose osteoporosis,170(30.5%)chose cardiovascular diseases,59(10.6%)chose the Alzheimer's Disease and 162(29.1%)knew about recurrent urinary tract infection.69 of them took medication for perimenopausal symptoms,among them 33 using hormones, 39 using traditional Chinese medication and 3 using both.The average Kupperman Index among the symptomatic women was 11.1.Conclusion The awareness and use of hormone therapy of PKUPH female medical staff are higher than average Chinese women but more education and promotion is needed.
A Cross-Cultural Comparison of Climacteric Symptoms, Health-Seeking Behavior, and Attitudes towards Menopause Among Mosuo Women and Han Chinese Women in Yunnan, China.

Abstract:Cultural background has been shown to influence climacteric symptoms of women. This study compares various characteristics of climacteric symptoms, illness conception, health-seeking behavior, and attitude towards menopause of Mosuo women, a Chinese ethnic minority with a matriarchal structure, and Han Chinese women, the majority ethnic group of China with a patriarchal structure. Through convenience sampling, 51 Mosuo and 47 Han women ages 40 to 60 completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, the modified Kupperman Menopause Index (KMI), the Self-Rating Scale of Illness Conception and Health Seeking Behavior (SSICHSB) and the Menopause Attitude Questionnaire (MAQ). The Mosuo and Han Chinese women are comparable with regard to their age, educational levels and menstrual status. During climacteric, Mosuo women showed less severe melancholia (p = .009), reported less health-seeking behavior (p = .009), and displayed more positive attitudes towards menopause than their Han Chinese counterparts (p < .001). One predictive variable of the melancholia severity in Mosuo was "menarche age", while that in the Han group was "social view on the menopause". Future research with a larger sample is needed to deepen our understanding about the interaction between culture and climacteric symptoms.

Abstract:OBJECTIVETo investigate the characteristics of menopause of Chinese women with the age of 40-60 years concerning gynecologic clinics in China.METHODSFrom Mar.2008 to Sept.2008, a face-to-face questionnaire was conducted in gynecological clinic in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women in 14 hospitals in China, which included general demographic data, menstrual change process, climacteric symptoms and knowledge about menopause. Modified Kupperman index were used to evaluate climacteric symptoms during the recent week and awareness of hormonal replacement therapy were studied.RESULTSA total of 1641 women were investigated. The ages of onset of menopause transition, climacteric symptoms and natural menopause were (47 ± 4), (46 ± 4), (49 ± 3) years old respectively. Climacteric symptoms could be found in 78.43% (1287/1641) women during menopausal transition, which were mainly mild to moderate symptoms. The top 5 symptoms were fatigue and weakness (71.48%, 1173/1641), irritability (68.68%, 1127/1641), insomnia (67.65%, 1110/1641), muscle and joint pain (64.11%, 1052/1641) and hot flush (57.90%, 950/1641). The climacteric symptoms were not constant during menopausal transition, usually more severe in late transition and postmenopausal periods, during which the moderate and severe symptoms were 59.1% (189/320) and 51.1% (291/570) respectively. Although most symptoms primarily appeared along with menstruation change, there are about 17.5% (172/981) patients experienced climacteric symptoms before menstruation change occurrence. There were 56.39% (733/1300) women had ever heard (mostly from gynecologist) about hormone replacement therapy from Obstetrician and Gynecologist.CONCLUSIONSMost of the women during menopausal transition had climacteric symptoms, usually mild and moderate ones. Although most symptoms primarily appeared along with menstruation change, there are other patients' experienced climacteric symptoms before menstruation change occurrence.

Abstract:Background: Women may lack awareness of the existence of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), its benefits, and potential drawbacks. Furthermore, they may be uninformed about the treatability of menopausal symptoms. Consequently, there is a need to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to HRT among menopausal women within the Malaysian population. Presently, no studies have reported on the inside, attitudes, and practices regarding HRT among menopausal women in Kuala Lumpur. This study sought to determine the prevalence, knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) towards HRT and its association with socio-demographic characteristics of the study population. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among menopausal women (n = 404) living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Data was collected using convenient sampling. This research consists of 5 major parts which are (A) Socio-demographic characteristics of participants, (B) HRT knowledge among respondents, (C) Attitudes towards HRT, (D) Practice of HRT, and (E) Menopausal symptoms. All appropriate data from the project was analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics Ver 26. Results: A total of 404 participants were recruited in this survey. Overall, participants had good knowledge (n = 254, 62.9%) and negative attitude (n = 213, 52.7%) towards HRT. The majority of them (83.4%) had never taken HRT. The common menopausal symptoms reported were hot flashes (35.4%), irritability/ mood swings (31.9%), and night sweats (29.2%). There was a significant association between knowledge of menopause and HRT and attitude towards HRT use. Participants (68.7%, n = 103) with poor knowledge of menopause and HRT showed a negative attitude towards HRT (p < 0.01). Conclusions: Overall, the prevalence of HRT use among the respondents is low. 83.4% of them have never taken HRT before. There was a positive correlation between knowledge and attitude towards HRT use. Healthcare systems should educate the public using various educational tools and social media.
Understanding Attitudes, Beliefs, and Behaviors Surrounding Menopause Transition: Results from Three Surveys

Abstract:Purpose: To understand women's perspectives, attitudes, and beliefs surrounding menopause transition and increase understanding of digital technology use for symptom management. Patients and methods: Information was obtained using three studies of women aged 40-65 years experiencing menopause transition symptoms. The HealthyWomen online cross-sectional survey was designed to reflect an inclusive sociodemographic sample representative of the US population. BECOME was a blinded, ethnographic, qualitative research study of women's menopause transition experiences and comprised facilitator-led online asynchronous discussions, online homework entries, and audio-only teleconferences. The NODE.Health online, two-part, cross-sectional patient survey was designed to capture patient and healthcare provider (HCP) sentiment about the use of digital health technologies to address gaps in perimenopausal symptom knowledge and management. Results: The HealthyWomen survey included 1045 participants, 37 were included in BECOME, and 100 completed the NODE.Health survey. Hot flashes, night sweats, and sleep problems were the most frequently experienced symptoms in the HealthyWomen survey, and over half of participants experiencing symptoms felt the need to seek relief. Whether menopause was considered a medical problem or natural process differed by self-identified race, culture, and ethnicity, as did the likelihood of consulting a HCP over symptoms. Participants preferred to discuss menopause transition with HCPs who did not rush them, were good listeners, and had expertise in the area. Most technology experience was with health websites, but nearly half were unsatisfied with online resources describing menopause-related symptoms. Convenience, ease of use, and accessibility were the most common reasons for pursuing digital health technology. Conclusion: Factors such as cultural beliefs, values and attitudes towards menopause determine personal experiences. More open discussions with friends, family, and HCPs may raise awareness and reduce barriers to seeking help. To provide optimal care throughout the menopause transition, HCPs should consider patients' psychosocial and cultural backgrounds, and personal and subjective perspectives.

Abstract:Objective: The aim of the study was to specify the prevalence and severity of menopausal symptoms, and to investigate associated factors in Chinese middle-aged women.Methods: Across-sectional, community- based study was carried out involving 1,054 participants aged 40 to 60 years in Gongshu District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, PR China. The presence and severity of symptoms were evaluated by having the participants complete a modified Kupperman Menopausal Index questionnaire. Serum levels of follicle-stimulating hormone and estradiol were measured. Physical and sociodemographic characteristics including height, weight, education, occupation, and income were collected. Statistical analysis was performed to identify factors associated with the occurrence of the menopausal syndrome according to the modified Kupperman Menopausal Index score rank.Results: The mean (SD) age of all participants was 50.85 (5.55) years. Overall, 32.6% of the participants were premenopausal, 20.2% were perimenopausal, and 47.1% were postmenopausal. The three most prevalent symptoms suffered by all participants were muscle/joint pain (54.5%), sexual problems (48.7%), and fatigue (46.1%). The prevalence of sexual problems and muscle/joint pain increased from the premenopausal stage to the postmenopausal stage (P<0.001 for both). Compared with premenopausal women, perimenopausal and postmenopausal women have a significantly increased risk of menopausal syndrome (P<0.001 for both). The logistic regression model revealed that the place of residence and level of education were significantly associated with the occurrence of menopausal syndrome (P<0.05).Conclusions: Perimenopausal women are prone to the highest prevalence and severity of menopausal symptoms. Sexual problems and muscle/joint pain are noticeable symptoms in postmenopausal women. Further studies are required to verify the influences of level of education, place of residence, and other factors onmenopausal symptoms in Chinese women.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the prevalence of menopausal symptoms among middle -aged women and analyze its influencing factor.Methods To investigate the women in 32~70 years old with menopausal symptoms and the relevant factors in jurisdiction of Yuetan Community Health Service Center of Fu Xing Hospital, Capital Medical University and The Second Hospital of Beijing.Results Survey of 2 794 women, the average age is (53.54 ±7.13)y, 2 165(77.49%) were troubled by menopausal syndromes.Among the symptoms, the most frequently symptoms of the top three were “muscle and joint pains”(41.3%), “feeling tired or lacking in energy”( 35.5%) , and “difficulty in sleeping”( 34.6%) .Educational background, physical disease, taking medicine, body mass index (BMI) and menstruation had statistical significance on the effect of menopausal symptoms(P<0.05). Conclusion The perimenopausal and menopausal women were easier to suffer from menopausal symptoms, more attention should be payed to their physical and psychological health, treating with medicine, psychotherapy, or sociotherapy in case of necessity.

Abstract:The use of Chinese medicine (CM) for the management of: menopausal syndrome is considered effective both at home and abroad, and more and more clinical studies are confirming its efficacy. However, many problems still exit in current studies, such as the standard of CM syndrome differentiation, the design methodology and criteria to assess the quality of clinical trials and the efficacy of interventions. In this paper, the authors present the CM research and treatment strategies for menopausal syndrome with concepts explaining the CM understanding of the mechanism of the disorder. It is concluded that CM is effective for menopausal syndrome, but improvement in both study methodology and treatment strategy is needed. In detail, it is firstly necessary to conduct clinical studies to evaluate the difference of various CM treatments for menopausal syndrome manifesting different symptoms, so as to establish a comprehensive treatment protocol of CM. Secondly, an acknowledged evaluation system needs to be founded, which embodies the characteristics of CM, and covers appropriate endpoint indices and parameters to objectively evaluate the effect and study quality of CM. Finally, an epidemiological survey with large sample size should be implemented with robust statistical design and CM expertise to collect data for establishing diagnostic criteria for menopause in different stages and with different symptoms.

Abstract:<span>Menopausal symptoms (or climacteric syndrome) refer to a series of symptoms that occur during the perimenopausal and early postmenopausal period. About 80% of women will have various degrees of menopausal symptoms, and most of them need associated treatment. Asian women are more inclined to choose traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in terms of therapeutic method, and menopausal hormone therapy has low acceptance because the women have been misinformed about the side effects of hormones. Therefore, TCM is used for menopausal symptoms in women in most Asian countries, including China, Japan, Vietnam, and South Korea. In the basic theory of TCM, the menopause is classified as the Kidney deficiency and imbalance of Yin and Yang; therefore, the treatment methods in either Chinese patent medicine or Chinese herbal medicine are aimed at supplementing the Kidney function and rebalancing Yin and Yang. It is believed that TCM treatment is suitable for patients with mild or moderate menopausal symptoms. The incidence rate of adverse reactions in terms of breast tenderness and irregular vaginal bleeding is lower than that of hormone therapy. However, there are few randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies on TCM treatment of menopausal syndrome. Future studies should be undertaken to confirm its merits.</span>

Relationship Between Menopause and Health-Related Quality of Life in Middle-Aged Chinese Women: a Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Background Chinese menopausal women comprise a large population and the women in it experience menopausal symptoms in many different ways. Their health related quality of life (HRQOL) is not particularly well studied. Our study intends to evaluate the influence of menopause on HRQOL and explore other risk factors for HRQOL in rural China. Methods An interview study was conducted from June to August 2010 in Beijing based on cross-sectional design. 1,351 women aged 40–59 were included in the study. HRQOL was measured using the EuroQol Group’s 5-domain (EQ5D) questionnaire. Comparison of HRQOL measures (EQ5D index and EQ5D-VAS scores) was done between different menopausal groups. Logistic regression and multiple regression analysis were performed to adjust potential confounders and explore other risk factors for health problems and HRQOL measures. Results Postmenopausal women who had menopause for 2–5 years (+1b stage) were more likely to suffer mobility problems (OR = 1.835, p = 0.008) after multiple adjustment. Menopause was also related to impaired EQ5D index and EQ5D-VAS scores after adjustment for age. Among menopausal groups categorized by menopausal duration, a consistent decrement in EQ5D index and EQ5D-VAS scores, that is, worsening HRQOL, was observed ( p < 0.05). Multiple regression analysis revealed low education level and physical activity were associated with EQ5D index (β = -0.080, p = 0.003, and β = 0.056, p = 0.040, respectively). Cigarette smoking and chronic disease were associated with EQ5D index (β = -0.135, p < 0.001 and β = -0.104, p < 0.001, respectively) and EQ5D-VAS (β = -0.057, P = 0.034 and β = -0.214, p < 0.001, respectively). Conclusions Reduction in physical function was found within the first five years after menopause. Worsening EQ5D index and EQ5D-VAS scores were related to menopause. Education level, physical activity, cigarette smoking, and chronic disease history were associated with HRQOL in middle aged Chinese rural women.
Analysis of factors that influence the quality of sexual life of climacteric women in China

Abstract:Objective: The study aimed to identify the factors associated with the sexual lives of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women in China. Methods: A total of 426 participants were approached about this study from May 2012 to August 2013. In total, 252 cases were included in this study. One hundred and ninety-seven women who filled out the Quality of Sexual Life Questionnaire for Women (QSLQW) and the modified Kupperman Menopausal Index (KMI) had an active sexual life. Pearson's coefficient index was used to determine the correlation between the KMI and different domains of the QSLQW. Multivariable statistical analysis was performed to determine the correlation between different factors and the sexual life of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. Results: When the participants reported a higher KMI, they suffered lower sexual satisfaction (r = -0.16, p = 0.035), more severe sexual anxiety (r = -0.367, p = 4.9 × 10-7), and less sexual response (r = -0.21, p = 0.004). No correlation was found between the KMI and sexual communication, sexual attitude, and self-image. Multivariable statistical analysis showed that menopause status and higher KMI scores are associated with a decrease in sexual satisfaction among Chinese women (β = -9.76, 95% CI -16.89 to -2.64 and β = -0.41, 95% CI -0.68 to -0.15, respectively), and that the better the spousal relationship, the fewer deliveries and the higher the scores of sexual life quality (β = 8.86, 95% CI -0.91 to 18.63 and β = -6.65, 95% CI -11.83 to -1.48, respectively). Conclusion: Factors including parity, spousal relationship, menopausal status, and menopausal symptoms are associated with the quality of sexual life of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women in China.
