Abstract:The Asian House Gecko Hemidactylus frenatus is an internationally significant invasive reptile which has spread rapidly though the Pacific and elsewhere and has been implicated in the decline and extinction of a number of native gecko species. Although present in Darwin for some time, the species has only recently become widespread in the Brisbane region. We investigated the density and distribution of this and two native house-dwelling geckos in urban, suburban and bushland environments within Brisbane. The spatially clumped insect resources associated with external light sources were effectively utilised by both urban and suburban populations of Asian House Geckos, suggesting likely competitive interactions between the species on structures where the species co-existed. At this time, there is no evidence of the introduced species living away from buildings in the Brisbane region.

Abstract:Background: Sleep disorders impose a substantial burden on the global population, leading to an array of health complications. Understanding their prevalence and associated risk factors is crucial to formulating effective interventions. Objective: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated risk factors of sleep disorders among residents of the Jazan region of Saudi Arabia. Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted an online survey from December 2022 to March 2023. The sample comprised 670 respondents aged 18 years and older residing in Jazan. Demographic data, lifestyle habits, sleep patterns, and sleep disorder symptoms were assessed. Results: The participants were predominantly women (62.2%), with an average age of 30.99 years and a normal body mass index. The analyses revealed that 28.8% of the respondents reported experiencing sleep disorders, and 13.4% particularly had obstructive sleep apnea. Nearly half of the participants reported having primary insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, and restless leg syndrome. Significant associations were found between sleep disorders and older age (p = 0.012), obesity (p = 0.043), short or thin neck (p = 0.034), smoking (p = 0.003), caffeine use (p = 0.001), existing health conditions (p = 0.001), medication use (p = 0.013), lack of daytime naps (p = 0.043), and frequent nighttime awakenings to urinate (p = 0.001). The most common self-reported reasons for nightly awakenings were urination, anxiety or stress, discomfort or noise, and health conditions. Conclusions: The findings suggest a high prevalence of sleep disorders among adults in Jazan, Saudi Arabia. Various demographic, lifestyle, and health-related factors are linked to these disorders. Therefore, targeted sleep health education and interventions could be instrumental in tackling this significant public health issue.

Abstract:Introduction Poor sleep quality can predict poor health and is associated with mortality risk. Many factors are associated with sleep quality such as gender, health, education, socioeconomic status, and stress. The objective of this study was to estimate the magnitude of poor sleep quality among visitors of Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCCs) in Al-Ahsa and to identify factors associated with poor sleep quality. Methods This is an analytical cross-sectional study. A multistage cluster sampling technique was used to recruit 461 visitors to PHCCs in Al-Ahsa Governorate in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. A structured questionnaire was administered through face-to-face interviews. The questionnaire includes demographics, a validated Arabic version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Arabic version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), the Arabic version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2), the Arabic version of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-2 (GAD-2), the Arabic version of Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), and a translated Mobile Related Sleep Risk Factors (MRSRF). Univariate analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test for continuous data, the chi-square test (χ²) or Fishers's exact test (as appropriate) for categorical data, and logistic regression for multivariable analysis. A P-value of less than or equal to 0.05 was considered significant. Results The study included 433 participants, with 72.5% of them being poor sleepers (PSQI global score of over 5). The highest percentage of poor sleepers was found among those aged 18 - 28 years (81.7%), with no significant difference between genders (p = 0.676). The study's multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that poor sleep is associated with smoking four hours before bedtime (OR = 2.9, CI = 1.2 - 6.7), consuming caffeine (drinks or pills) three hours before sleep (OR = 2.3, CI = 1.23 - 4.12) or immediately before bedtime (OR = 3.2, CI = 1.02 - 9.9), using mobile phones right before bedtime (OR = 2.6, CI = 1.5 - 4.5), having anxiety (OR = 5.8, CI = 1.3 - 26.2), and depression symptoms (OR = 6.5, CI = 2.9 - 14.5), among other risk factors. Conclusion The prevalence of poor sleep quality in our sample was notably high at 72.5%. Many factors are strongly associated with poor sleep quality including experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Longitudinal studies are needed to explore this crucial health issue further. Healthcare providers in Al-Ahsa should pay particular attention while assessing patients who suffer from sleep disturbance by screening them for depression and anxiety and raising public awareness of the importance of good quality sleep and the factors that affect it.
Parental Knowledge and Practices of Sleep Hygiene Among Children in Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Background: Sleep hygiene is crucial for child development, influencing physical health, cognitive function, and emotional well-being. Parental knowledge and practices significantly influence children's sleep habits, yet gaps in understanding persist, impacting sleep quality and overall health outcomes. In Saudi Arabia, rapid societal changes and modern lifestyles pose unique challenges to maintaining healthy sleep habits among children. This study aims to assess parental knowledge and management of sleep hygiene, providing insights for targeted interventions tailored to Saudi cultural contexts. Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed parental knowledge and management of sleep hygiene among children in Saudi Arabia. Participants (N=729) were recruited from pediatric clinics and online forums, comprising parents with at least one child aged 0-18 years who completed surveys in Arabic or English. A comprehensive survey collected demographic data, parental sleep hygiene knowledge, practices, and concerns. Data were gathered between January and March 2024 via online and clinic-based distribution and analyzed using SPSS version 25 for descriptive statistics. Results: The survey was completed by 729 participants, predominantly aged 25-44 years (70.4%), holding predominantly bachelor's degrees (34.7%), and employed full-time (49.7%). The majority reported having 2-3 children (54.9%). Findings indicated that 69.1% (504 participants) correctly identified school-aged children's sleep needs, and 71.0% (518 participants) recognized the importance of limiting electronic device use before bedtime. Sleep management practices revealed that 81.3% (592 participants) of parents adhered to bedtime routines, and 65.6% (478 participants) managed electronic device use appropriately. Bedtimes typically ranged from 7 to 9 PM for 90.5% (658 participants) of children, with wake-up times clustered between 6 and 8 AM for 75.6% (551 participants). Parental concerns showed reliance on online resources (60.4%) and pediatricians (54.7%) for sleep information, with 73.9% (539 participants) expressing interest in further education on sleep hygiene. Conclusions: This study highlights parental awareness of sleep hygiene practices in Saudi Arabia but underscores gaps in knowledge regarding caffeine effects and optimal napping practices. Tailored educational interventions are essential to enhance parental understanding and promote healthier sleep habits, thereby optimizing child well-being in the region.

Abstract:Sleep medicine is a relatively new specialty in the medical community. The practice of sleep medicine in Saudi Arabia (KSA) began in the mid to late nineties. Since its inception, the specialty has grown, and the number of specialists has increased. Nevertheless, sleep medicine is still underdeveloped in the KSA, particularly in the areas of clinical service, education, training and research. Based on available data, it appears that sleep disorders are prevalent among Saudis, and the demand for sleep medicine service is expected to rise significantly in the near future. A number of obstacles have been defined that hinder the progress of the specialty, including a lack of trained technicians, specialists and funding. Awareness about sleep disorders and their serious consequences is low among health care workers, health care authorities, insurance companies and the general public. A major challenge for the future is penetrating the educational system at all levels to demonstrate the high prevalence and serious consequences of sleep disorders. To attain adequate numbers of staff and facilities, the education and training of health care professionals at the level of sleep medicine specialists and sleep technologists is another important challenge that faces the specialty. This review discusses the current position of sleep medicine as a specialty in the KSA and the expected challenges of the future. In addition, it will guide clinicians interested in setting up new sleep medicine services in the KSA or other developing countries through the potential obstacles that may face them in this endeavor.

Abstract:Globally, hypertension is among the leading causes of premature mortality. It is a noncommunicable disease characterized by a persistent state of raised blood pressure that increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and medical conditions affecting the brain and kidneys. There is a paucity of thorough hypertension knowledge assessment among hypertensive patients in the Jazan region of Saudi Arabia. Thus, this study aimed to assess overall and specific knowledge about hypertension and to identify predictors of inadequate knowledge. A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Jazan region of Saudi Arabia between February and April 2023. Data were collected using an online, self-administered questionnaire divided into two sections. In the first section, the characteristics of the participants were collected. In the second section, the Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale was used to measure overall and specific knowledge areas (subdimensions). The overall and subdimensional means were tested using Mann–Whitney U and Kruskal–Wallis H tests. Furthermore, the binary logistic regression was conducted to determine inadequate knowledge predictors. In all 253 hypertensive patients were eligible for participation; almost 70% of whom were male. The mean age of the participants was 45 years (±14.7), and their mean overall knowledge score was 17.60 (±5.09), which was equivalent to 67.7% of the maximum score. In addition, 40.7% of participants had an adequate level of hypertension knowledge. The complications subdimension level of knowledge was borderline optimal. At the same time, an adequate knowledge level was detected only in the lifestyle subdimension. Most patients showed inadequate levels of knowledge related to hypertension management. Diet, medical treatment, disease definition, drug compliance, and complications were subsequently the least knowledgeable subdimensions among the study population. Therefore, these subdimensions should be prioritized when planning hypertension educational interventions and during follow-up sessions, especially for patients of younger age groups and those with lower educational levels.

Abstract:Background Mental health treatment, particularly through psychotropic medications, is becoming increasingly prominent worldwide. In Saudi Arabia, the acceptance and understanding of these treatments are shaped by unique cultural and social factors. Despite some awareness, there remains a need for deeper insights into the public's perceptions and knowledge of psychotropic medications. This study aims to examine the awareness levels of psychotropic medications among the Saudi population, their perceived benefits and risks, the prevalence of their use, and any demographic differences in these perceptions. Methods Employing a quantitative, cross-sectional design, this study collected data via an online questionnaire from Saudi residents aged 18 and above. The questionnaire, validated by experts, covered demographic details, awareness and knowledge of psychotropic medications, and personal or vicarious experiences with these medications. Data analysis was performed using SPSS (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA), applying descriptive and inferential statistics to provide a comprehensive view of the current landscape. The study was conducted over four weeks, from May 1, 2024, to May 31, 2024. Results The study indicated a demographic skew towards younger individuals, with a significant predominance of female respondents (70.86%, n=1024). A notable 63.52% (n=922) of participants reported being aware of psychotropic medications. Regarding knowledge, 37.83% (n=549) of respondents were somewhat knowledgeable about the benefits, while 37.57% (n=545) were somewhat knowledgeable about the risks. The prevalence of use was reported by 41.92% (n=608) of respondents, mainly through acquaintances rather than personal use. Younger, predominantly female, and well-educated individuals demonstrated higher levels of awareness and acceptance of psychotropic medications. Significant variations in perceptions were observed based on age, gender, and educational level. Respondents aged 18-24 years (52.52%, n=762) were significantly more likely to be aware of psychotropic medications (p < 0.01), and female respondents showed a higher acceptance rate (p < 0.05). Educational level also played a crucial role, with college-educated individuals (63.38%, n=919) displaying greater acceptance and awareness compared to those with only a high school education (28.24%, n=409) (p < 0.01). The general opinion on the effectiveness and adequacy of public information about psychotropic medications was mixed, with 52.93% (n=768) acknowledging their benefits while 31.92% (n=463) expressed concerns about side effects, indicating a need for improved public education. Conclusion The study emphasizes the importance of enhancing public education and awareness initiatives to improve knowledge and acceptance of psychotropic medications in Saudi Arabia. This could lead to better mental health outcomes and broader acceptance of these treatment options.

Abstract:Background and aim Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders with a huge impact on the physical and psychological well-being of the individuals affected. Unwanted behavioral practices regarding epilepsy emergencies result in poor management, costly clinical interventions, and frequent unnecessary visits to the emergency departments. We aimed at conducting a large-scale investigation of behavioral practices, beliefs, and perceptions regarding epilepsy first aid measures among the Saudi public. Methods This is a descriptive questionnaire-based cross-sectional study of the general public residing in the Southwestern region of Aseer in Saudi Arabia. Results The study included 1230 participants. There were about 70.4% shows good knowledge about epilepsy and 74.2% with good knowledge about epilepsy first-aid. About 87.1% reported that they know what epilepsy really is, and nearly 38.1% know somebody diagnosed with epilepsy. Only 25.4 sought doctors for epilepsy-related knowledge. About 16.7% thought spirit possession to be the aetiology for epilepsy and about 14.1% believed that evil eye was the cause. In terms of the adjusted impact for background factors on epilepsy knowledge, high education, attending seminars, or getting information from doctors was associated with a better knowledge score. However, housewives were less knowledgeable in terms of epilepsy-related knowledge. Conclusion We uncovered in our present investigation the upward trend for behavioral practices regarding epilepsy during the last few years among the Saudi public. We noted that behavioral practices and knowledge levels about epilepsy were far better among highly educated graduates. One concerning finding is the huge reliance on media for information about epilepsy. The media may not be the ideal channel for the dissemination of health-wise information about epilepsy. Our study results showed that there was a very low level of first-hand experience of knowing some acquaintances living with epilepsy, likely because of stigma. Spirit possession and evil-eye beliefs are embedded in the Saudi culture. It was notable that 25% and 19% of minorities reported getting information about epilepsy from doctors and seminars, respectively. These were the two groups with the highest adjustable knowledge score though. Knowledge about first aid for epilepsy was satisfactory in several aspects. Sadly, housewives were less knowledgeable in terms of epilepsy-related knowledge than other categories of employment. Public healthcare facilities should be more proactive. Health education should be provided to the general public using simple and understandable language to help improve knowledge and attitudes towards epilepsy and all related chronic illnesses.

Therefore, this study aimed to identify knowledge and perceptions of psychotropic drugs among the general population in the Makkah Region, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted among adults aged 18 years old and older, living in the Makkah Region, Saudi Arabia, from 1 January to 30 April 2024. Descriptive statistics were used to describe participants' characteristics, and categorical variables were reported as frequencies and percentages. A Chi-square test was used to examine the relationships between variables. Results: A total of 717 participants were involved in the study: (52%) were from Jeddah, (25.9%) were from Taif, and (22%) were from Makkah. The mean age was 33.9 years, and 67.1% were females. Among the participants, (20.8%) had experienced a psychiatric illness, (41.7%) had a member of the family who suffered from a psychiatric illness, (39.5%) had a family member who used a psychiatric drug, and only 25 (7%) had a child suffering from a psychiatric illness. Specifically, 20.8% of those with a psychiatric illness demonstrated good knowledge (P=0.001), 16.1% of those with a family history of psychiatric illness had good knowledge (P=0.007), 16.3% with family use of psychiatric drugs had good knowledge (P=0.006), and 24.5% of those who used psychiatric drugs had high knowledge (P=0.001). Overall, (40.6%) of participants had a low level of knowledge and perception about psychotropic drugs, (47.8%) had a moderate knowledge and perception level, and only (11.6%) had high knowledge and perception. Conclusion: Psychological well-being is crucial for health, but misconceptions persist, acting as barriers that impede people from seeking and accepting necessary psychiatric care. Abstract:Purpose: This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of emergency physicians (EPs) related to psychiatric emergencies (PEs) in Makkah's general hospitals. Sample and methods: This study was an observational cross-sectional study using an online survey distributed to 138 EPs in the emergency departments (EDs) of six public hospitals in Makkah City, Saudi Arabia, between March 15 and May 1, 2023. A convenience sample was used for data collection. The questionnaire was developed after related surveys in the literature were reviewed. Results: 59.9% of the physicians were aged 20-30 years. Most (68.8%) worked in hospitals that had psychiatric facilities. Regarding knowledge, only 30% of the emergency doctors were considered knowledgeable: the majority could identify PEs (79.7%), perform mental status examinations (71.0%), distinguish physical and mental symptoms (66.7%), and communicate with psychiatric patients (58.0%). However, only 52.9% could initiate management plans by prescribing psychiatric medication to patients. In relation to attitude, most physicians disagreed with the idea that healthcare practitioners do not need to advocate for psychiatric patients (67.4%), but many (62.3%) assumed that they do not have the responsibility to manage psychiatric patients, and they felt that conducting psychiatric evaluations in public hospitals is challenging because of the busy environment there. As regards practice, mentally ill patients (60.9%) were managed or referred by practices, and 56.5% of the EPs advised these patients upon discharge. Conclusion: The study showed that EPs have positive attitudes toward psychiatric patients, but their knowledge varied based on age, occupation levels, and years of experience. There were significant knowledge gaps, particularly regarding effective communication with psychiatric patients. Additionally, many EPs manage psychiatric patients without being aware of the psychiatric resources in their hospital. Improving medical school curricula and postgraduate training can enhance care. However, more research in this field is needed.

Abstract:Abstract Background Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a major public health problem and represents commonest form of dementia that affects many aspects of brain functions and contributes to 60–70% of dementia cases. No study has been conducted in Saudi Arabia to measure the prevalence of AD. However, approximately there are at least 50,000 patients in Saudi Arabia based on an expert’s estimation . Public knowledge and awareness about Alzheimer’s disease are crucial for early diagnosis and management. Objective To investigate the public’s knowledge and attitudes toward Alzheimer’s disease in Aseer region. Subject and methods Cross-sectional study has employed an electronic online, semi-structured, and self-administered questionnaire, randomly distributed among participants. The questions included sociodemographics, attitudes, and knowledge panels toward Alzheimer’s disease based on Alzheimer’s Disease Knowledge Scale (ADKS). Results The study included 1374 participants with a mean age 33 ± 11 years (ages18–70). The majority of the participants (77%) had no family history with Alzheimer’s disease. Less than 50% of the questions were answered correctly and the mean knowledge score was 10.77 ± 5.11. The results revealed that young-aged participants, females, and those having a family history of the disease, have significantly ( P < 0.05) better AD-related knowledge. Conclusion The study revealed an inadequate AD-related knowledge as indicated by the low mean knowledge score. However, participants have demonstrated a positive attitude toward AD patients. More educational programs are required to enhance their awareness and knowledge about AD.
Awareness and Knowledge about Childhood Autism among Family Medicine Residents in Al Madinah Region in Saudi Arabia, 2020

Abstract:Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) refers to a range of conditions characterized by some degree of impaired social behavior, communication and language, and a narrow range of interests and activities that are both unique to the individual and carried out repetitively. Objective: To assess knowledge of Family Medicine residents in Al Madinah Region regarding childhood autism. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted to assess knowledge of 103 family medicine residents about childhood autism in Al Madinah Region, Saudi Arabia. A structured self-administered web-based Healthcare Workers (KCAHW) Questionnaire was used to assess knowledge of childhood autism among participant residents. Results: Residents’ total score (Mean±SD) was 13.18±2.80 (out of 19, 69.4%). The highest attained mean scores were for the first and second domains (6.36±1.64, 79.5% and 0.78±0.42, 78%, respectively), while the lowest was for the fourth domain (2.62±1.10, out of 6, 43.7%). Highest mean knowledge scores among participants were among those aged 35-39 years (13.33±0.58). However, knowledge scores did not differ significantly according to residents’ age groups. Male residents had significantly lower knowledge scores than females (12.56±2.53 and 14.21±2.95, respectively, p=0.003). Mean knowledge scores were highest among R4 residents (13.66±2.91). However, knowledge scores did not differ significantly according to residents’ training levels. Participants in Yanbu Residency Program had significantly lower mean knowledge scores than those in AL Madinah (12.26±2.70 and 13.45±2.79, respectively). However, knowledge scores did not differ significantly according to residency programs. Mean knowledge scores about autism did not differ significantly according to attending workshops or conferences about autism. Conclusion: Knowledge of family medicine residents regarding childhood autism is suboptimal. Correlates of KCA may help in selection of healthcare workers who would best provide health education and management for caregivers of children with autism. It is important to update the knowledge gaps of healthcare workers who have limited knowledge regarding childhood autism and to train them to be able to provide healthcare service that would ensure early diagnosis and interventions for management of autism. Knowledge and Awareness of Rare Diseases Among Healthcare Professionals in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Abstract:Aim Recent studies highlighted that lack of knowledge on rare diseases is a problem that requires attention. This study aims to assess healthcare professionals' general awareness and knowledge of rare diseases in a tertiary hospital in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Method The study employed a cross-sectional design, utilizing a survey questionnaire derived from the most recent literature. The survey encompassed socio-demographic factors and quiz-based questions that were previously created by Domaradzi and Walkowiak to assess knowledge and awareness of rare diseases. To ensure convenience and accessibility, the survey was made available in both Arabic and English languages. Results Of a total of 333 responses, 25.2% were physicians, 53.8% were nurses, and 21.0% were allied health personnel. The majority of participants (87.4%) were aware of and had heard the term "rare diseases" prior to this survey. Participants were able to recognize what age group is frequently affected by rare diseases (p=0.023) and what the common cause of rare diseases worldwide is (p<0.001). Overall scores showed that only four participants answered all questions correctly, testing their knowledge of rare diseases. There was a weak correlation between self-declared knowledge and the overall score achieved (r=0.190; p<0.001), which indicates that the population's self-declared knowledge did not portray their actual knowledge of rare diseases. Conclusion This study highlights the need for improved knowledge of rare diseases among healthcare professionals, which aligns with the global knowledge landscape. To bridge the knowledge gap, we recommend action plans to ensure that healthcare professionals have rich knowledge of rare diseases and further improve patient care. Additionally, enhancing advocacy efforts is crucial to ensure optimal local and global patient care services.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitude about autism among Family Medicine residents in the AlAhsa region, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from September to October 2023. A validated questionnaire was distributed among 99 Family Medicine residents through an online platform. The questionnaire assessed demographic data, knowledge about autism, and attitude toward managing the condition. Results: The results indicated a moderate level of knowledge about autism among the residents, where 51% displayed moderate knowledge, 24.5% showed good knowledge, and 24.5% had poor knowledge. Attitudes toward autism management were generally positive, though varied, highlighting a need for enhanced training and awareness. Conclusion: The study underscores the necessity for targeted educational interventions and continuous professional development to bridge knowledge gaps and improve the management of autism in primary care settings. Enhanced training on the diverse aspects of autism could lead to better patient outcomes and more effective healthcare delivery.

Abstract:Introduction Amblyopia is a neurodevelopmental disorder of the visual cortex that usually occurs due to abnormal visual development early in life. The clinical importance of amblyopia is that it is a significant cause of visual loss in the pediatric population. Knowing and understanding amblyopia plays a crucial role in management since the earlier the intervention, the better the results. Aim This study aimed to assess the knowledge and awareness of amblyopia among the general population in Saudi Arabia. Subject and methods This cross-sectional study was conducted among the general population in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A self-administered Arabic questionnaire was distributed to the general population through social media using Google Forms. The questionnaire includes sociodemographic characteristics (e.g., age, gender, marital status, etc.) and questions to assess the knowledge about amblyopia, including its definition, etiologies, and treatment. Results Of the 488 participants, 57.4% were females, and 38.3% were aged between 26 and 39 years old. Of the participants, 46.5% have heard of amblyopia. The overall mean knowledge score was 16.9 (SD 3.09) out of 32 points. In terms of knowledge, 64.5% had moderate knowledge, 1.8% had good knowledge, and 33.6% had poor knowledge levels. Factors associated with increased knowledge were being older, female gender, married, having children, having a family history of eye disease, and hearing of amblyopia. Conclusion Consistent with the literature, this study finds a need for more knowledge about amblyopia among the general population. Significant predictors of increased knowledge include younger age group, female gender, having children, family history of eye disease, and ever heard of amblyopia.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to determine the risk and symptoms for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) among Saudi Arabian adults. This cross‐sectional survey among healthy participants was conducted at King Abdulaziz Medical City‐Riyadh (KAMC‐R). The Berlin Questionnaire (BQ) was used to assess the risk of OSA, and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) was used to measure excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) as a manifestation of OSA in participants. The total number of participants was 2095, mean age of the sample was 42.3 (±15.5) years and 848 (40.7%) were females. Using BQ, 31.9% of the participants were classified as high risk for OSA (33.4% among females and 31.1% among males). The risk for OSA increased with age: 19.4% among the young group (≤29 years), 35.2% among the middle‐aged (30–59 years), and 41% among the elderly (≥60 years). The risk of symptomatic OSA by combining both BQ and ESS was 7.8% and increased with age (5.5% among the young group, 8.5% among the middle‐aged, and 9.7% among the elderly), but there was no difference between gender (8% among females vs. 7.7% among males). This study showed that the risk for OSA is very high, is equal in both genders and it increases with age and obesity.
