Abstract:Nearly two decades ago, diabetes mellitus (DM) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) emerged as major global health threats, with research interest steadily increasing. Despite ongoing in-depth studies in the DM+CVD field, a systematic analysis of overall development trends and future hotspots remains lacking. This study employs bibliometric methods, utilizing CiteSpace and VOSviewer software to analyze and visualize 5,505 DM+CVD-related publications from 2005 to May 2024. The findings reveal a rapid growth trend in the field, with publications peaking at 751 in 2022, and the United States and China as major contributing countries. Keyword analysis identifies research hotspots including oxidative stress, insulin resistance, and heart failure. Highly cited literature analysis shows that the relationship between DM+CVD and obesity, disease mechanisms, treatment strategies, lifestyle interventions, and novel drugs are primary research themes. Analysis of highly cited literature from the past three years indicates that the application of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists, the association between metabolic abnormalities and DM+CVD, precise management of heart failure and cardiomyopathy, and in-depth epidemiological studies are current and future research priorities. This study not only reveals research hotspots and development trends in the DM+CVD field but also provides important references for optimizing research resource allocation and promoting multidisciplinary collaboration.

Abstract:Background: Diabetic cardiomyopathy is one of the most life-threatening diabetic complications. However, the previous studies only discuss a particular aspect or characteristic of DCM, the current state and trends were explored by limited research. We aimed to perform a systemically bibliometric study of DCM research progress status in the past decade, visualize the internal conceptual structure and potential associations, and further explore the prospective study trends. Methods: Articles related to DCM published from January 2012 to December 2021 were collected in the Web of Science core collection (WoSCC) database on June 24, 2022. We exported all bibliographic records, including titles, abstracts, keywords, authorship, institutions, addresses, publishing sources, references, citation times, and year of publication. In addition, the journal Impact Factor and Hirsch index were obtained from the Journal Citation Report. We conducted the data screening, statistical analysis, and visualization via the Bibliometrix R package. VOS viewer software was employed to generate the collaboration network map among countries and institutions for better performance in visualization. Results: In total, 1,887 original research articles from 2012 to 2021 were identified. The number of annual publications rapidly increased from 107 to 278, and a drastic increase in citation times was observed in 2017–2019. As for global contributions, the United States was the most influential country with the highest international collaboration, while China was the most productive country. Professor Cai Lu was the most prolific author. Shandong University published the most articles. Cardiovascular Diabetology journal released the most DCM-related articles. "Metabolic Stress-induced Activation of FoxO1 Triggers Diabetic Cardiomyopathy in Mice" Battiprolu PK et al., J Clin Invest, 2012. was the most top-cited article regarding local citations. The top three keywords in terms of frequency were apoptosis, oxidative stress, and fibrosis. The analysis of future topic trends indicated that "Forkhead box protein O1," "Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction," "Dapagliflozin," "Thioredoxin," "Mitochondria dysfunction," "Glucose," "Pyroptosis," "Cardiac fibroblast" and "Long non-coding RNA" could be promising hotspots. Conclusion: This study provides meaningful insights into DCM, which is expected to assist cardiologists and endocrinologists in exploring frontiers and future research directions in the domain through a refined and concise summary.

Abstract:Background & objective: The extensive spread of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) worldwide has caused a dramatic negative impact on many individuals' health. This study aims to systematically and comprehensively analyze the current status and possible future directions of diabetes mellitus (DM) and COVID-19 research. Methods: We obtained publications about COVID-19 and DM from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) using the search terms "COVID-19″ and similar terms combined with "DM" and similar terms, with a date range of January 2020 to May 2024. And we used CiteSpace V 6.3.R2 to perform the bibliometric visualization analysis. Results: The search enrolled 6266 publications. The USA is a country with the most publications; Harvard University was the most productive institution in this field. The highest-ranked journal was the PLOS ONE, and the most cited journal was Lancet. The 20 most cited journals have all been cited 28754 times, accounting for 28 % of the total cites; the range of those journals was 790-3197. Publications on COVID-19 and DM research exhibited a distinct trajectory, shifting from an initial emphasis on understanding the impact of diabetes on COVID-19 infection and its associated pathophysiological mechanisms to a focus on analyzing the differential responses of diverse patient populations. Subsequently, research has progressed to examine the effects of medications and vaccines, as well as the long-term consequences of COVID-19 in diabetic individuals. Throughout this research endeavor, the exploration of diverse therapeutic interventions, their efficacy, and ultimate outcomes have consistently remained a paramount focus. And " metabolic syndrome," " long COVID," and " gestational diabetes" are still likely to be the hotspots and frontiers of research in the future. Conclusions: This bibliometric analysis related to DM in COVID-19 illuminates the current research situation and developmental trends, supporting researchers in the exploration of prospective directions for research.

Spatial distribution pattern generating processes in the International Bottom Trawl Survey in the North Sea

Abstract:Abundance indices ofyoung fish in the North Sea derived from the International Bottom Trawl Survey (JBTS) show large interannual fluctuations, which are not in accordance with ICES assessments in every case. The standard estimation of the abundance indices, however, does not explicitly account for potential influences of environmental variables on the spatial aggregation of juvenile fish and the probability distribution of the catches. The present study aims at improving the analysis and tbe estimation procedures for IBTS abundance indices. Variability of bottom trawl catches of age l and 2 whiting and cod was . studied on three spatial scales: at fixed stations, within statisticaI rectangles and within the species-specific standard areas used in the IBTS. Daylight period, temperature, salinity, water depth. and bottom type were considered as potential environmental variables. influencing the catches. At fixed stations significant diff~rences between day and night catches were found .. Variability within rectangles increased with the degree of heterogeneity in theenvironmerit, where the effects of temperature and depth were most pronounced. Frequency distributions ofthe average catch by rectangle always deviate substantially from normal distriputions. Lognormal-based Generalized Linear Models for whiting and Delta-Iognormal models for cod revealed that temperature and, in particular, depth contribute significantly to the variability also between rectangles. It is further demonstrated that depth can be used as a covariate in the estimation of abundance indices for the species-specific standard areas. Introduction The International Bottom Trawl Survey (JBTS) in the North Sea conducted in February each year started in the beginning of the 1960's and aimed in the start exclusively at juvenile herring. Over the years the objectives of this survey were broadened to provide recruitment indices also for cod Gadus morhua, haddock Melanogrammus aeglejinus and whiting Merlangius merlangus, and the survey area was extended in the 1980's to include the northern North Sea and the SkagerraklKattegat (Heessen et al. 1997). At the same time the GOV (Grand Ouverture Verticale) trawl was introduced as standard gear and in the early 1990's a large amount of effort was put into standardizing the sampling'design (ICES 1992, 1996a). The survey is stratified based on a grid of statisticaI rectangles ("squares") of l o longitude and 0.5 o latitude (~30 ~ 30 nm; Fig. 1). Ships oftwo different countries usually fish each 'square so that at least two hauls are made per square, and the tows conducted 'fromone vessel in adjacent squares are normally separated by at least 10 nm. The survey provides abundance indices that are calculated by taking the average catch per hour trawling of all hauls within a square, and then the average of all squares within species-specific standard areas. Although it is recommended that trawling should be Iimited to daylight hours, some hauls are made during twilight or night due to a short daylight period, and night catches are only excluded from the index calculation for herring (Heessen et al. 1997). The fIrst quarter IBTS abundance indices show large interannual fluctuations, which do not coincide with VPA estimates in every case. For gadoids where multiple survey information isavailable, the fIrst quarter IBTS performs less well for cod than other surveys (ICES 1996b, Wieland 1998), and there is an inconsistency between the surveys and the assessment for whiting in general (Cook 1997, ICES 1998). However, the present procedure of calculating the abundance indices does not consider the error structure of the catches. The use of a rigorous statisticaI approach can potentially improve the perfoimance ofthe survey indices (e.g. Pennington 1983, Stefånsson 1996). There are numerous technical aspects of trawling which affect survey catches, and similarly the behaviour and the distribution of the fish in relation to environmental conditions influence catch efficiency. For example, diumal variations in bottom trawl catches have been observed for different fish species includmg gadoids (Ehrich & Groger 1989, Engås & Soldal 1992, Michalsen et al. 1996), and interannual differences in catchability due to changes in the distribution related to water temperature and salinity were found for cod (Smith & Page 1996). In the present study, the variability ofbottom trawl catches for age l and 2 whiting and cod is analyzed on three spatial scales with different aspects. These are: l) the effect of the daylight period on catches from fixed stations, 2) influences rif environmental variables on catches obtained within a statisticaI square, and 3) the application of statisticaI methods which account for the frequency distribution of the catches, and which also consider environmerital variables as cov:ariates in the calculation of abundance indices for the IBTS species-specific standard areas. Material and Methods Variability atfIXed stations Basic data for the analysis ofvariability ofbottom trawl catches at fixed locations were available from investigations carried out by the Danish Institute for Fisheries Research. The surveys were originally designed to sample whiting stomachs (riegnbol 1992, Pedersen 1996, Pedersen submitted). The sampling was conducted in autumn 1988 and 1989 and in spring 1992 and 1993 with RN Dana. Hauls were made in about 4 hour time intervals over a 72-hour period each at a single station. In 1988 and 1989 the tracks of the hauls were laid out in a star pattem crossing through the same center, and are thus only exact replicates conceming their central position. In 1992 and 1993 parallel tracks close to each other in a box of 5 * 7 nm were used. In some cases fishing w as' conducted at some distance from , ." the bott()m d\lring l'light,. ~ut these tO\vs were discardeØ frQm mIr allalysis. In total 93 hauls were selected for analysis which were all carried out with an EXPO trawl. Sampling periods and statisticai rectangles (Fig. l) in which the sampling was performed are given in Table l. Towing time was 60 min in most cases, towing speed amounted to 3.4 kn on average, and vertical net openingranged between 5 and IO m.

Abstract:Background: Macrophages are considered an essential source of inflammatory cytokines, which play a pivotal role in the development of diabetes and its sequent complications. Therefore, a better understanding of the intersection between the development of diabetes and macrophage is of massive importance. Objectives: In this study, we performed an informative bibliometric analysis to enlighten relevant research directions, provide valuable metrics for financing decisions, and help academics to gain a quick understanding of the current macrophage-related diabetes studies knowledge domain. Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection database was used for literature retrieval and dataset export. Bibliometrix R-package was performed to conduct raw data screening, calculating, and visualizing. Results: Between 2000 and 2022, the annual publication and citation trends steadily increased. Wu Yonggui was the scholar with the most published papers in this field. The institute with the highest number of published papers was the University of Michigan. The most robust academic collaboration was observed between China and the United States of America. Diabetologia was the journal that published the most relevant publications. The author's keywords with the highest occurrences were "inflammation", "diabetic nephropathy", and "obesity". In addition, "Macrophage polarization" was the current motor topic with potential research prospects. Conclusions: These comprehensive and visualized bibliometric results summarized the significant findings in macrophage-related diabetes studies over the past 20 years. It would enlighten subsequent studies from a macro viewpoint and is also expected to strengthen investment policies in future macrophage-related diabetes studies.
Bibliometric and visual analysis of ACE2/Ang 1-7/MasR axis in diabetes and its microvascular complications from 2000 to 2023

Abstract:Background: The pathogenesis of diabetes and its microvascular complications are intimately associated with renin angiotensin system dysregulation. Evidence suggests the angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)/angiotensin 1-7 (Ang 1-7)/Mas receptor (MasR) axis regulates metabolic imbalances, inflammatory responses, reduces oxidative stress, and sustains microvascular integrity, thereby strengthening defences against diabetic conditions. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the ACE2/Ang 1-7/MasR axis in diabetes and its microvascular complications over the past two decades, focusing on key contributors, research hotspots, and thematic trends. Methods: This cross-sectional bibliometric analysis of 349 English-language publications was performed using HistCite, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Bibliometrix R for visualization and metric analysis. Primary analytical metrics included publication count and keyword trend dynamics. Results: The United States, contributing 105 articles, emerged as the most productive country, with the University of Florida leading institutions with 18 publications. Benter IF was the most prolific author with 14 publications, and Clinical Science was the leading journal with 13 articles. A total of 151 of the 527 author's keywords with two or more occurrences clustered into four major clusters: diabetic microvascular pathogenesis, metabolic systems, type 2 diabetes, and coronavirus infections. Keywords such as "SARS", "ACE2", "coronavirus", "receptor" and "infection" displayed the strongest citation bursts. The thematic evolution in this field expanded from focusing on the renin angiotensin system (2002-2009) to incorporating ACE2 and diabetes metabolism (2010-2016). The latter period (2017-2023) witnessed a significant surge in diabetes research, reflecting the impact of COVID-19 and associated conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and cardiomyopathy. Conclusions: This scientometric study offers a detailed analysis of the ACE2/Ang 1-7/MasR axis in diabetes and its microvascular complications, providing valuable insights for future research directions.

Abstract:Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) are microvascular complications of diabetes that share a similar pathogenesis and clinical relevance. The study aimed to visually analyze the research status and development trend of the relationship between DN and DR by means of bibliometrics and knowledge mapping. Methods: Publications were collected from the Science Citation Index-Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection between 2000 and 2021. CiteSpace, Alluvial Generator, and Microsoft Excel were used to analyze and present the data. Results: A total of 3,348 publications were retrieved and 3,285 were included in the analysis after deduplication. The publications demonstrated an annually increasing trend. The results of the collaborative network analysis showed that the United States, Steno Diabetes Center, and Tien Y. Wong were the most influential country, institution and author, in this field of research, respectively. The analysis of references and keywords showed that the pathogenesis of DN and DR and their relationship with cardiovascular disease are research hotspots. The clinical relevance and drug therapy for DN and DR will become frontiers of future research in this field. Conclusion: This study is the first to visualize the correlation between DN and DR using a bibliometric approach. This study provides a reference of research trends for scholars.

Abstract:Diabetes mellitus is a worldwide health problem that usually comes with severe complications. There is no cure for diabetes yet and the threat of these complications is what keeps researchers investigating mechanisms and treatments for diabetes mellitus. Due to advancements in genomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and single-cell multiomics research, considerable progress has been made toward understanding the mechanisms of diabetes mellitus. In addition, investigation of the association between diabetes and other physiological systems revealed potentially novel pathways and targets involved in the initiation and progress of diabetes. This review focuses on current advancements in studying the mechanisms of diabetes by using genomic, epigenomic, proteomic, and single-cell multiomic analysis methods. It will also focus on recent findings pertaining to the relationship between diabetes and other biological processes, and new findings on the contribution of diabetes to several pathological conditions.

Global research trends of diabetes remission: a bibliometric study

Abstract:Background: Research on diabetes remission has garnered prominence in recent years. However, to date, no pertinent bibliometric study has been published. This study sought to elucidate the current landscape and pinpoint potential new research directions through a bibliometric analysis of diabetes remission. Methods: We perused relevant articles on diabetes remission from January 1, 2000, to April 16, 2023, in the Web of Science. We utilized CiteSpace software and VOSviewer software to construct knowledge maps and undertake analysis of countries, institutional affiliations, author contributions, journals, and keywords. This analysis facilitated the identification of current research foci and forecasting future trends. Results: A total of 970 English articles were procured, and the annual publication volume manifested a steady growth trend. Most of the articles originated from America (n=342, 35.26%), succeeded by China and England. Pertaining to institutions, the University of Newcastle in England proliferated the most articles (n=36, 3.71%). Taylor R authored the most articles (n=35, 3.61%), and his articles were also the most co-cited (n=1756 times). Obesity Surgery dominated in terms of published articles (n=81, 8.35%). "Bariatric surgery" was the most prevalently used keyword. The keyword-clustering map revealed that the research predominantly centered on diabetes remission, type 1 diabetes, bariatric surgery, and lifestyle interventions. The keyword emergence and keyword time-zone maps depicted hotspots and shifts in the domain of diabetes remission. Initially, the hotspots were primarily fundamental experiments probing the feasibilities and mechanisms of diabetes remission, such as transplantation. Over the course, the research trajectory transitioned from basic to clinical concerning diabetes remission through bariatric surgery, lifestyle interventions, and alternative strategies. Conclusion: Over the preceding 20 years, the domain of diabetes remission has flourished globally. Bariatric surgery and lifestyle interventions bestow unique advantages for diabetes remission. Via the maps, the developmental milieu, research foci, and avant-garde trends in this domain are cogently portrayed, offering guidance for scholars.

Abstract:The disturbance of the inflammatory microenvironment is a frequent pathological trait of diabetic wounds, contributing to the emergence of numerous chronic illnesses. This is crucial in both the development and recovery of wounds caused by diabetes. This study aims to perform a bibliometric analysis of research on the inflammatory microenvironment within the domain of diabetic wounds (DW) over the past 10 years. The objective is to map out the current global research landscape, pinpoint the most significant areas of study and offer guidance for future research avenues. Our research involved querying the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database for all pertinent studies on the inflammatory microenvironment in diabetic wounds (DW). We utilized bibliometric tools such as CiteSpace, VOSviewer and R (version 4.3.1) to identify and highlight the most impactful studies in the field. The study encompassed a review of 1454 articles published from 2014 to 2023, highlighting China and the United States as pivotal nations in the research of the inflammatory microenvironment in diabetic wounds (DW). Within this sphere, the University of Michigan and Harvard University in the United States, along with Shanghai Jiaotong University in China, emerged as the most prolific institutions. WANG Y from China was identified as the most productive author, while KUNKEL SL from the United States received the most citations. The research primarily focuses on topics such as wound healing, repair processes, angiogenesis, oxidative stress and macrophage activity. Additionally, "macrophage" and "delivery" were pinpointed as the leading subjects with promising research potential in this area. Research on the inflammatory microenvironment of diabetic wounds is rapidly advancing through active international collaboration. The study of new mechanisms related to the inflammatory microenvironment and the development of novel materials for repair based on this microenvironment represent emerging fields of future research, particularly in terms of translational applications. This may offer guidance and novel perspectives for further research in the area of the diabetic wound inflammatory microenvironment.

Abstract:Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a severe complication of diabetes mellitus (DM). The literature on DKD inflammation research has experienced substantial growth. However, there is a lack of bibliometric analyses. This study aimed to examine the existing research on inflammation in DKD by analyzing articles published in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) over the past 30 years. We conducted a visualization analysis using several software, including CiteSpace and VOSviewer. We found that the literature on inflammation research in DKD has experienced substantial growth, indicating a rising interest in this developing area of study. In this field, Navarro-Gonzalez, JF is the most frequently cited author, Kidney International is the most frequently cited journal, China had the highest number of publications in the field of DKD inflammation, and Monash University emerged as the institution with the most published research. The research area on inflammation in DKD primarily centers around the investigation of 'Glycation end-products', 'chronic kidney disease', and 'diabetic nephropathy'. The emerging research trends in this field will focus on the 'Gut microbiota', 'NLRP3 inflammasome', 'autophagy', 'pyroptosis', 'sglt2 inhibitor', and 'therapeutic target'. Future research on DKD may focus on further exploring the inflammatory response, identifying specific therapeutic targets, studying biomarkers, investigating stem cell therapy and tissue engineering, and exploring gene therapy and gene editing. Abstract:Background: Over the past 20 years, evidence has suggested that gut microbiota plays an important role in metabolic homeostasis. The relationship between gut microbiota and diabetes has become the focus of considerable scientific interest. With the sharp increase in publications in this area, it is imperative to analyze the relevant articles using bibliometrics methods. Methods: Publications on "the gut microbiota and diabetes" were retrieved and downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Microsoft Excel 2020, VOSviewer, CiteSpace 5.8.R3 and Co-Occurrence 9.94 software were used for data analysis and visualization. Country/academic institution, journal, author, subject category, keyword and reference were analyzed thoroughly. The cutting-edge directions in this field were also determined by analyzing keywords and key articles. Results: A total of 2,342 documents were included in the analysis; the number of articles in this field has increased yearly, particularly after 2010. China and the University of Copenhagen are the country and research institution associated with the largest number of publications. Nutrients have published 191 articles in this field, ranking first among highly productive journals in the number of publications. The researcher Cani PD affiliated with the University of Leuven, Belgium, published the greatest number of articles in this field between 2001 and 2021 and was also ranked as the first co-cited author and the largest contributor of highly cited papers in this field. Endocrinology & Metabolism was the most common subject category. Three of the most frequently found keywords, besides terms related to "microbiota" and "diabetes," were "obesity," "probiotics," and "inflammation." Akkermansia muciniphila , Faecalibacterium prausnitzii , trimethylamine n-oxide and branched-chain amino acids are intestinal bacteria or metabolites that have attracted more attention in recent years. Natural products represented by Chinese herbal medicine and some protein receptors or signaling pathways such as aryl hydrocarbon receptor, farnesoid X receptor and AMP-activated protein kinase were frontiers in this field. Conclusion: Over the past two decades, the rapid development of research on the gut microbiota has deepened the understanding of the physiology and pathology of diabetes, providing new insights into different approaches to treatment. In the future, further interdisciplinary innovation, clinical transformation, and application may receive more attention.

Abstract:Background: Diabetes-associated periodontal disease is caused by diabetes-enhanced host immune-inflammatory responses to bacterial insult. An increasing number of papers related to diabetes-associated periodontal disease have been published. This study analyzed research on diabetes-associated periodontal disease with bibliometrics methods. The objective of this study was to identify hotspots and frontiers in the diabetes-associated periodontal disease research field.Methods: Publications were extracted from the Web of Science core collection database, and the document types included were limited to articles and reviews. The bibliometric analysis software CiteSpace5 was used to analyze the number of articles, research fields, countries/regions, institutions, authors, keywords, and other information. Outcomes were visualized to analyze the hotspots and research frontiers of diabetes-associated periodontal disease.Results: A total of 3,572 articles were retrieved. Among the research fields, dentistry, oral surgery, and medicine accounted for the highest proportion of publications, and public, environmental, and occupational health had the highest betweenness centrality. The number of publications from the United States ranked first among all the countries, while Columbia University ranked first among all the institutions. Global cooperation was not frequent. Keyword analysis showed that inflammatory pathways were the hotspots. Burst words analysis indicated that early prevention was a research frontier.Conclusions: The bibliometric method helped identify research hotspots and frontiers. Inflammatory pathways were hotspots, and early prevention was a frontier in diabetes-associated periodontal disease.

Abstract:Background: Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia that often occurs in adults. Many studies have indicated that exercise is beneficial to the medical management of diabetes. Bibliometric analysis can help investigators to identify the current research concerns to guide future research directions. Nevertheless, the overview bibliometric analysis of this global research topic related to exercise and diabetes is lacking. The present bibliometric study aimed to investigate development trends and research hotspots of exercise and diabetes research and provide researchers with new perspectives in further studies. Materials and Methods: The articles and reviews regarding exercise and diabetes between 2000 and 2020 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. The scientometrics analytical tool CiteSpace software was used to analyze the cooperation among countries/institutions/journals/authors, analysis of co-occurrence keywords, keywords bursts, and references. Results: In all, 3,029 peer-reviewed papers were found with a persistently increased tendency over time. The most prolific country and institution were the USA (965) and Univ Alberta (76), respectively. Diabetes Care published most papers (178) and was the most co-cited journal (2,630). Riddell MC had the most publications (53), and Sigal RJ was the most influential author (503 cited times). Colberg et al.'s paper (co-citation counts: 183) showed the strongest citation bursts by the end of 2020, which was the most representative reference. The four research focuses were mellitus, exercise, physical activity, and glycemic control. The two frontiers trends were sedentary behavior and stress. The combination of aerobic and resistance training can effectively improve glycemic control, decrease HbA1c levels, enhance cardiorespiratory fitness, improve lipid levels, and decrease the demand for non-insulin antihyperglycemic agents. Conclusions: This study offers a scientific perspective on exercise and diabetes research and provides investigators with valuable information to detect the current research condition, hotspots, and emerging trends for further study.

Abstract:Introduction: Vitamin D has a significant correlation with type 2 diabetes. Insufficient levels of vitamin D can cause insulin resistance, which impairs the ability of cells to respond to insulin and worsens the progression of diseases. Furthermore, vitamin D has the potential to enhance the release of insulin, enhance the regulation of blood sugar levels, and reduce the glycemic index. Research has indicated that insufficient levels of vitamin D may elevate the likelihood of experiencing complications related to type 2 diabetes, including cardiovascular disease and neuropathy. This study employed bibliometric analysis to investigate recent advancements in research about the relationship between vitamin D and type 2 diabetes. Methods: We searched for articles on the topic of vitamin D and type 2 diabetes published between January 1, 2004, and December 31, 2023. The search was performed on February 20, 2024, using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Utilizing VOSviewer and CiteSpace, we conducted bibliometric analysis and visualization. Results: A comprehensive study was conducted on a total of 1362 papers pertaining to the relationship between vitamin D and type 2 diabetes. The United States had the biggest number of publications and the highest effect among these articles. Within the top 10 most published journals, the journal "DIABETES CARE" has the highest H-index, indicating its significant influence in this field of study. Currently, there is an extensive body of research on the supplementation of vitamin D for the improvement of type 2 diabetes and prevention of complications in type 2 diabetes, as well as its related mechanisms. Research related to bone turnover and peripheral neuropathy represents a promising area for future studies. Conclusion: Overall, bibliometrics may assist researchers in comprehending the trajectory, significant themes, and scholarly influence of the field concerning vitamin D and type 2 diabetes. This, in turn, offers substantial backing for future studies that delve further into the subject matter.

Abstract:Background: Diabetes-associated cognitive dysfunction (DACD) is a common and serious complication in diabetes and has a high impact on the lives of both individuals and society. Although a number of research has focused on DACD in the past two decades, there is no a study to systematically display the knowledge structure and development of the field. Thus, the present study aimed to show the landscape and identify the emerging trends of DACD research for assisting researchers or clinicians in grasping the knowledge domain faster and easier and focusing on the emerging trends in the field. Methods: We searched the Web of Science database for all DACD-related studies between 2000 and 2022. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using the VOSviewer, CiteSpace, Histcite, and R bibliometric package, revealing the most prominent research, countries, institutions, authors, journals, co-cited references, and keywords. Results: A total of 4,378 records were selected for analysis. We found that the volume of literature on DACD has increased over the years. In terms of the number of publications, the USA ranked first. The most productive institutions were the University of Washington and the University of Pittsburgh. Furthermore, Biessels GJ was the most productive author. Journal of Alzheimers Disease , Diabetes Care , and Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience had the most publications in this field. The keywords"dementia," "alzheimers-disease," "cognitive impairment" and "diabetes" are the main keywords. The burst keywords in recent years mainly included "signaling pathway" and "cognitive deficit." Conclusion: This study systematically illustrated advances in DACD over the last 23 years. Current findings suggest that exploring potential mechanisms of DACD and the effect of anti-diabetes drugs on DACD are the hotspots in this field. Future research will also focus on the development of targeted drugs that act on the DACD signaling pathway.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Diabetes has a substantial impact on public health, highlighting the need for novel treatments. Ubiquitination, an intracellular protein modification process, is emerging as a promising strategy for regulating pathological mechanisms. We hypothesize that ubiquitination plays a critical role in the development and progression of diabetes and its complications, and that understanding these mechanisms can lead to new therapeutic approaches. AIM To uncover the research trends and advances in diabetes ubiquitination and its complications, we conducted a bibliometric analysis. METHODS Studies on ubiquitination in diabetes mellitus and its complications were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Visual mapping analysis was conducted using the CiteSpace software. RESULTS We gathered 791 articles published over the past 23 years, focusing on ubiquitination in diabetes and its associated complications. These articles originated from 54 countries and 386 institutions, with China as the leading contributor. Shanghai Jiao Tong University has the highest number of publications in this field. The most prominent authors contributing to this research area include Wei-Hua Zhang, with Zhang Y being the most frequently cited author. Additionally, The Journal of Biological Chemistry is noted as the most cited in this field. The predominant keywords included expression, activation, oxidative stress, phosphorylation, ubiquitination, degradation, and insulin resistance. CONCLUSION The role of ubiquitination in diabetes and its complications, such as diabetic nephropathy and cardiomyopathy, is a key research focus. However, these areas require further investigations.

Abstract:Background: The establishment of rodent models, such as rat and mouse models, plays a critical role in the study of diabetic associated cognitive decline. With the continuous growth of relevant literature information, it is difficult for researchers to accurately and timely capture the topics in this field. Therefore, this study aims to explore the current status and frontier trends of diabetic associated cognitive decline research based on rat and mouse models through a bibliometric analysis. Methods: We collected 701 original articles on this subject from the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection from 2012 to 2021. Then we utilized CiteSpace and VOSviewer for plotting knowledge maps and evaluating hotpots and trends. Results: During this decade, except for a slight decline in 2020, the number of annual outputs on diabetes associated cognitive decline research using rat and mouse models increased every year. China (country), China Pharmaceutical University (institution), Gao, Hongchang (the author from the School of Pharmacy of Wenzhou Medical University, China), and Metabolic Brain Disease (journal) published the most papers in this research field. The analysis results of co-cited references and co-occurrence keywords indicated that "mechanisms and prevention and treatment methods", especially "oxidative stress", "potential association with Alzheimer's disease" and "spatial memory" are research focuses in this subject area. The bursts detection of references and keywords implied that "cognitive impairment of type 1 diabetes" and "autophagy and diabetes associated cognitive decline" will be potential directions for future research in this subject area. Conclusion: This study systematically assessed general information, current status and emerging trends of diabetic associated cognitive decline research using rat and mouse models in the past decade based on a bibliometric analysis. The number of publications was annually increasing although a slight decline was observed in 2020. Contributions from different countries/regions, institutions, authors, co-cited authors, journals and co-cited journals were evaluated, which may also be used to guide future research. Through the analysis of references and keywords, we predicted the future research hotspots and trends in this field.
