Abstract:Agriculture is of one of the few remaining sectors that is yet to receive proper attention from the machine learning community. The importance of datasets in the machine learning discipline cannot be overemphasized. The lack of standard and publicly available datasets related to agriculture impedes practitioners of this discipline to harness the full benefit of these powerful computational predictive tools and techniques. To improve this scenario, we develop, to the best of our knowledge, the first-ever standard, ready-to-use, and publicly available dataset of mango leaves. The images are collected from four mango orchards of Bangladesh, one of the top mango-growing countries of the world. The dataset contains 4000 images of about 1800 distinct leaves covering seven diseases. Although the dataset is developed using mango leaves of Bangladesh only, since we deal with diseases that are common across many countries, this dataset is likely to be applicable to identify mango diseases in other countries as well, thereby boosting mango yield. This dataset is expected to draw wide attention from machine learning researchers and practitioners in the field of automated agriculture.

Abstract:This dataset represents almost all the harmful diseases for rice in Bangladesh. This dataset consists of 1106 image of five harmful diseases called Brown Spot, Leaf Scaled, Rice Blast, Rice Turngo, Steath Blight in two different background variation named field background picture and white background picture. Two different background variation helps the dataset to perform more accurately so that the user can use this data for field use as well as white background for decision making. The data is collected from rice field of Dhaka Division. This dataset can use for rice leaf diseases classification, diseases detection using Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition for different rice leaf disease.

Abstract:The agricultural sector in Bangladesh is a cornerstone of the nation's economy, with key crops such as rice, corn, wheat, potato, and tomato playing vital roles. However, these crops are highly vulnerable to various leaf diseases, which pose significant threats to crop yields and food security if not promptly addressed. Consequently, there is an urgent need for an automated system that can accurately identify and categorize leaf diseases, enabling early intervention and management. This study explores the efficacy of the latest state-of-the-art object detection model, YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once), in surpassing previous models for the automated detection and categorization of leaf diseases in these five major crops. By leveraging modern computer vision techniques, the goal is to enhance the efficiency of disease detection and management. A dataset comprising 19 classes, each with 150 images, totaling 2850 images, was meticulously curated and annotated for training and evaluation. The YOLOv8 framework, known for its capability to detect multiple objects simultaneously, was employed to train a deep neural network. The system's performance was evaluated using standard metrics such as mean Average Precision (mAP) and F1 score. The findings demonstrate that the YOLOv8 framework successfully identifies leaf diseases, achieving a high mAP of 98% and an F1 score of 97%. These results underscore the significant potential of this approach to enhance crop disease management, thereby improving food security and promoting agricultural sustainability in Bangladesh.

Abstract:Plant diseases cause significant productivity and economic losses, as well as a reduction in agricultural product quality and quantity. One principal impact on low crop yield is sickness due to bacteria, virus and fungus It is possible to avoid it by employing plant disease detection and categorization procedures. We used machine learning to detect and classify diseases in plant leaves because it evaluates data from several perspectives and categorizes it into one of several predefined classifications. In this research we create a model for the classification task which is sequential model. We trained a convolutional neural network (CNN) with help of the plant village dataset, which have 55,000 images divided into 39 completely distinct categories of each healthy and effected leaves. We trained data by using Adam optimization technique because it almost constantly plays quicker and higher global minimal convergence in comparison to the alternative optimization techniques. We achieved a validation accuracy of 98.74% using the architecture of CNN containing optimized parameters. CNNs, as can be observed, have a high-stop overall performance, making them surprisingly suitable for computerized identification of plant illnesses using simple plant leaf images. The experiment effects completed are similar with different current strategies in literature.

Abstract:In Bangladesh, sweet orange cultivation has been popular among fruit growers as the fruit is in demand. However, the disease of sweet oranges decreases fruit production. Research suggests that computer-aided disease diagnosis and machine learning (IML) models can improve fruit production by detecting and classifying diseases. In this line, a dataset of sweet oranges is required to diagnose the disease. Moreover, like many other fruits, sweet orange disease may vary from country to country. Therefore, in Bangladesh, a sweet orange dataset is required. Lastly, since different ML algorithms require datasets in various formats, only a few existing datasets fulfil the necessity. To fulfil the limitations, a sweet orange dataset in Bangladesh is collected. The dataset was collected in August and comprises high-quality images documenting multiple disease conditions, including Citrus Canker, Citrus Greening, Citrus Mealybugs, Die Back, Foliage Damage, Spiny Whitefly, Powdery Mildew, Shot Hole, Yellow Dragon, Yellow Leaves, and Healthy Leaf. These images provide an opportunity to apply machine learning and computer vision techniques to detect and classify diseases. This dataset aims to help researchers advance agri engineering through ML. Other sweet orange growing countries with having similar environments may find helpful information. Lastly, such experiments using our dataset will assist farmers in taking preventive measures and minimising economic losses.

Abstract:Agriculture is the primary source of income for the majority of the population in Bangladesh. Agriculture is also a big part of the economy of the country. Therefore, it's more necessary to grow our crops and fruits and boost their harvests. Fruits are adored by the people of this country, and farmers love growing fruits. Owing to numerous diseases, both the quality and quantity of fruits are not meeting expectations. Native fruits are contracting many types of new diseases, and the magnitude of the problem is increasing alarmingly. To deal with this issue, quick detection of the disease and correct treatment or recuperation is required. In many cases, locals fail to even detect rare diseases. Thanks to the huge advancement in technology, rare diseases can now be detected with the use of the right technologies. A good plant's growth is dependent on its leaves. Early leaf disease detection can help in keeping the leaves disease-free, as well as the plants and fruits. Our research focuses on identifying litchi leaf diseases by employing sophisticated image processing technologies to ensure the freshness of the leaves. Abstract:Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) is a widely cultivated legume crop that plays a vital role in global agriculture and food security. It is a major source of vegetable oil and protein for human consumption, as well as a cash crop for farmers in many regions. Despite the importance of this crop to household food security and income, diseases, particularly Leaf spot (early and late), Alternaria leaf spot, Rust, and Rosette, have had a significant impact on its production. Deep learning (DL) techniques, especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have demonstrated significant ability for early diagnosis of the plant leaf diseases. However, the availability of groundnut-specific datasets for training and evaluation of DL models is limited, hindering the development and benchmarking of groundnut-related deep learning applications. Therefore, this study provides a dataset of groundnut leaf images, both diseased and healthy, captured in real cultivation fields at Ramchandrapur, Purba Medinipur, West Bengal, using a smartphone camera. The dataset contains a total of 1720 original images, that can be utilized to train DL models to detect groundnut leaf diseases at an early stage. Additionally, we provide baseline results of applying state-of-the-art CNN architectures on the dataset for groundnut disease classification, demonstrating the potential of the dataset for advancing groundnut-related research using deep learning. The aim of creating this dataset is to facilitate in the creation of sophisticated methods that will aid farmers accurately identify diseases and enhance groundnut yields.

Abstract:A very crucial part of Bangladeshi people’s employment, GDP contribution, and mainly livelihood is agriculture. It plays a vital role in decreasing poverty and ensuring food security. Plant diseases are a serious stumbling block in agricultural production in Bangladesh. At times, humans can’t detect the disease from an infected leaf with the naked eye. Using inorganic chemicals or pesticides in plants when it’s too late leads in vain most of the time, deposing all the previous labor. The deep-learning technique of leaf-based image classification, which has shown impressive results, can make the work of recognizing and classifying all diseases trouble-less and more precise. In this paper, we’ve mainly proposed a better model for the detection of leaf diseases. Our proposed paper includes the collection of data on three different kinds of crops: bell peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes. For training and testing the proposed CNN model, the plant leaf disease dataset collected from Kaggle, is used which has 17430 images. The images are labeled with 14 separate classes of damage. The developed CNN model performs efficiently and could successfully detect and classify the tested diseases. The proposed CNN model may have great potency in crop disease management.

Abstract:Tomato, a fruiting plant species within the Solanaceae family, is a widely used ingredient in culinary dishes due to its sweet and acidic flavor profile, as well as its rich nutritional content. Recognized for its potential health benefits, including reducing the risk of coronary artery disease and specific types of cancer, tomatoes have become a staple in global cuisine. Traditional methods for tomato maturity assessment, harvesting, quality grading, and packaging are often labor-intensive and economically inefficient. This paper introduces an extensive dataset of high-resolution tomato images collected over an eight-month period from the demonstration fields of Sher-E-Bangla Agricultural University in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in collaboration with plant breeding experts of the same university. The dataset was meticulously curated to ensure precision and consistency, encompassing various stages of tomato maturity, including images of both fresh and defective tomatoes. This dataset is a valuable resource for researchers, stakeholders, and individuals interested in tomato production in Bangladesh, providing a robust foundation for leveraging computer vision and deep learning techniques in the agriculture sector. The dataset's potential applications extend to automating tasks such as robotic harvesting, quality assessment, and packaging systems, ultimately enhancing the efficiency of tomato production processes.

Abstract:Plant diseases pose a significant obstacle to global agricultural productivity, impacting crop quality yield and causing substantial economic losses for farmers. Watermelon, a commonly cultivated succulent vine plant, is rich in hydration and essential nutrients. However, it is susceptible to various diseases due to unfavorable environmental conditions and external factors, leading to compromised quality and substantial financial setbacks. Swift identification and management of crop diseases are imperative to minimize losses, enhance yield, reduce costs, and bolster agricultural output. Conventional disease diagnosis methods are often labor-intensive, time-consuming, ineffective, and prone to subjectivity. As a result, there is a critical need to advance research into machine-based models for disease detection in watermelons. This paper presents a large dataset of watermelons that can be used to train a machine vision-based illness detection model. Images of healthy and diseased watermelons from the Mosaic Virus, Anthracnose, and Downy Mildew Disease are included in the dataset's five separate classifications. Images were painstakingly collected on June 25, 2023, in close cooperation with agricultural experts from the highly regarded Regional Horticulture Research Station in Lebukhali, Patuakhali.

Abstract:The trace metal Zinc (Zn) seems to be essential for the normal functioning of the gustatory sense. In this study it was tried to localize Zn within the peripheral and central parts of the bullhead's gustatory system by the use of scanning electron microscopy and x-ray microanalysis. In freeze dried preparations of the bullhead's barbel taste buds (and the taste buds of rabbits) Zn is found in randomly distributed granules, which cannot be related to distinct taste bud regions. Furthermore, Zn occurs in sub-units of the central gustatory nuclei, the vagal and facial lobe of the rhombencephalon. Therefore Zn appears to be essential for intact peripheral as well as central gustatory processes, at least in lower vertebrates.

Abstract:Disease detection and treatment in tomato plant at its early stage contributes towards better production. It is a natural phenomenon that normally tomato plant got disease and if a proper care and remedial action have not taken on time, it badly affects the respective product quality, quantity or productivity. Health monitoring and disease detection of leaves in tomato crop is very critical and if left untreated, can cause serious problems with the plant and fruit, resulting in large losses, especially in fresh markets. Traditional manual methods of disease detection and treatment is based on naked eye observation which cannot provide accurate and on time information at a very early stage of its attack. This paper presents an image processing based techniques for the automatic detection and treatment of leaf diseases in tomato crop. In the proposed method, 13 different statistical features are calculated from tomato leaves using Gray Level Co Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) algorithm. The obtained features are classified into different diseases using Support Vector Machine (SVM). The processed leaf is compared with the stored features on the basis of which disease is recognized. Data are collected from local tomato crop fields and the dataset is divided into a training set and a test set used in the experiments. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides excellent annotation with accuracy of 100% for healthy leaf, 95% for early blight, 90% for septoria leaf spot and 85% late blight. The proposed method is implemented in the form of a cell phone application.

Abstract:Agriculture plays a vital role in Bangladesh's economy. It is essential to ensure the proper growth and health of crops for the development of the agricultural sector. In the context of Bangladesh, crop diseases pose a significant threat to agricultural output and, consequently, food security. This necessitates the timely and precise identification of such diseases to ensure the sustainability of food production. This study focuses on building a hybrid deep learning model for the identification of three specific diseases affecting three major crops: late blight in potatoes, brown spot in rice, and common rust in corn. The proposed model leverages EfficientNetB0's feature extraction capabilities, known for achieving rapid high learning rates, coupled with the classification proficiency of SVMs, a well-established machine learning algorithm. This unified approach streamlines data processing and feature extraction, potentially improving model generalizability across diverse crops and diseases. It also aims to address the challenges of computational efficiency and accuracy that are often encountered in precision agriculture applications. The proposed hybrid model achieved 97.29% accuracy. A comparative analysis with other models, CNN, VGG16, ResNet50, Xception, Mobilenet V2, Autoencoders, Inception v3, and EfficientNetB0 each achieving an accuracy of 86.57%, 83.29%, 68.79%, 94.07%, 90.71%, 87.90%, 94.14%, and 96.14% respectively, demonstrated the superior performance of our proposed model.

Abstract:One of the critical biotic stress factors paddy farmers face is diseases caused by bacteria, fungi, and other organisms. These diseases affect plants' health severely and lead to significant crop loss. Most of these diseases can be identified by regularly observing the leaves and stems under expert supervision. In a country with vast agricultural regions and limited crop protection experts, manual identification of paddy diseases is challenging. Thus, to add a solution to this problem, it is necessary to automate the disease identification process and provide easily accessible decision support tools to enable effective crop protection measures. However, the lack of availability of public datasets with detailed disease information limits the practical implementation of accurate disease detection systems. This paper presents \emph{Paddy Doctor}, a visual image dataset for identifying paddy diseases. Our dataset contains 16,225 annotated paddy leaf images across 13 classes (12 diseases and normal leaf). We benchmarked the \emph{Paddy Doctor} dataset using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and four transfer learning based models (VGG16, MobileNet, Xception, and ResNet34). The experimental results showed that ResNet34 achieved the highest F1-score of 97.50%. We release our dataset and reproducible code in the open source for community use.

Abstract:Plant diseases significantly impact agricultural productivity, resulting in economic losses and food insecurity. Prompt and accurate detection is crucial for the efficient management and mitigation of plant diseases. This study investigates advanced techniques in plant disease detection, emphasizing the integration of image processing, machine learning, deep learning methods, and mobile technologies. High-resolution images of plant leaves were captured and analyzed using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to detect symptoms of various diseases, such as blight, mildew, and rust. This study explores 14 classes of plants and diagnoses 26 unique plant diseases. We focus on common diseases affecting various crops. The model was trained on a diverse dataset encompassing multiple crops and disease types, achieving 98.14% accuracy in disease diagnosis. Finally integrated this model into mobile apps for real-time disease diagnosis.
