Abstract:The synthesis of the Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposite was achieved through a facile hydrothermal method combined with in situ photodeposition. Subsequently, its efficacy in catalyzing the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation was systematically investigated. The Bi2MoO6 samples and the Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites underwent comprehensive characterization using a suite of techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The analyses unveiled a homogeneous distribution of Ag nanoparticles on the surface of AgBr/Bi2MoO6, indicative of the successful formation of the composite. To assess the photocatalytic efficiency, the degradation of RhB under visible light irradiation was employed as a benchmark. Notably, the incorporation of Ag nanosheets, serving as electron mediators and Schottky barriers, facilitated efficient electron transfer between Bi2MoO6 and AgBr. Consequently, the photocatalytic activity of the ternary Z-type heterogeneous Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites surpassed that of the pure Bi2MoO6 and AgBr samples. Remarkably, under 12 min of visible light irradiation, the photocatalytic activity of the Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites reached an impressive 99.99 %.

Abstract:In this study a ternary composite MgO–TiO 2 @g-C 3 N 4 was synthesized via a simplistic ultrasonic route and then it was characterized using various techniques. The development of tri-phased nanostructure was revealed by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) study confirmed the presence of the constituent elements while the bonding patterns were investigated by the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The as-acquired MgO–TiO 2 @g-C 3 N 4 heterojunction exhibited an optimal competence (94%) and enhanced photo-degradation rate constant towards the Alizarin Red S (ARS) dye in just 60 min under visible-light illumination. The heterostructured combined interfaces assembly of g-C 3 N 4 and MgO–TiO 2 NPs, have efficiently prompted the photo-excited charges separation, and blocked the recombination incidence. Henceforth, the prolonged lifetime has led to incessant generation of photoactive − species that ultimately upgraded the photo-degradation process. Furthermore, the fabricated hybrid photocatalysts showed superior recycling stability. A plausible photocatalytic reaction mechanism based on the S-scheme has been proposed. The advanced photocatalytic competence to degrade the AR dye under visible light irradiation makes MgO–TiO 2 @g-C 3 N 4 a favorable photocatalyst for the dye-containing wastewater treatment.

Abstract:In this study, the potential of layered double hydroxide (Zn-Co-Al) decorated with g-C3N4 (CN) as a novel nanocomposite for degradation of Congo red (CR) under ultrasonic irradiation was evaluated. Characterization studies including transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Visible DRS) were conducted to study the structure of synthesized nanocomposite. Such characteristics as an open hierarchical structure comprised of intertwined CN and Zn-Al-Co-LDH nanosheets make it an efficient photocatalyst for the removal of anionic pollutants from water under simulated sunlight irradiation. The degradation efficiency of Congo red (CR) with Zn-Al-Co-LDH@CN catalyst was 92.7%. Regarding the effect of scavengers on the dye, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid had a higher value than ethanol and benzoquinone (BQ) implying the considerable role of the hole (h+) in decomposing CR compared to the insignificant role of OH• and O2 •. During five sequential runs, a decline of less than 10% was observed in the removal efficiency of CR. The removal efficiency of chemical oxygen demand and total organic carbon was approximately 71% and 52%, respectively, within 400 min confirming the mineralization of CR.

Abstract:Increased water pollution due to the tremendous increase of dye-containing effluent is still a serious problem which, in turn, adversely affects aquatic life and, consequently, the balance of our ecosystem. The aim of this research was to investigate whether Ca-ALG/MgO/Ag nanocomposite beads successfully prepared from calcium alginate hydrogels with MgO (Ca-ALG/MgO) doped with Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) caused effective degradation of Direct Red 83 dye. The formation of nanocomposite beads was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), and Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDX). The results from the EDX analysis proved that both MgO and Ag nanoparticles within the alginate beads network were present. This study also examines the effects of various operating parameters, such as the reducing agent, time of reaction, the concentration of the dye solution, and the catalyst dosage, which were examined and studied carefully to find the optimum degradation conditions. The kinetics and isothermal study revealed that the degradation process using Ca-ALG/MgO/Ag nanocomposite beads as a catalyst in the presence of sodium borohydride (NaBH4) as a reducing agent was the best fit for the pseudo-first-order model and the Temkin isotherm model. The results indicated that the optimum dosage of Ca-ALG/MgO/Ag was 0.3 g for a dye concentration of 50 mg/L, and equilibrium of the degradation process was attained at 340 min. Accordingly, it could be stated that the catalyst, Ca-ALG/MgO/Ag nanocomposite beads, is considered efficient for the degradation of Direct Red 83 dye. The degradation efficiency reached 95% approximately. Furthermore, after four runs of reuse, Ca-ALG/MgO/Ag nanocomposite beads exhibited excellent performance and long-term stability.

Abstract:Development of highly robust and solar-light-responsive photocatalysts for the disposal of organic dyes from wastewater is a matter of great significance in order to solve the problems of water pollution. Solar-driven photocatalytic degradation of dyes is considered as a quite efficient, sustainable and cost-effective approach as it involved the inexhaustible and renewable source of energy. In photocatalytic processes, the generation of electron-hole pairs at the surface of the photocatalyst is accomplished by harvesting solar energy. The electron-hole pairs are converted into (OH)-O-center dot radicals that are responsible for the degradation of dyes. Herein, we reported the synthesis of nanosized iron (FeNPs) using the aqueous fruit extract of Actinidia chinensis as a reducing as well as the stabilizing agent. The structure and morphology of synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using various advanced techniques. The TEM micrographs showed that the synthesized FeNPs was predominantly cubic and rod-shaped having the size in the range of 91.78-107 nm. The as-prepared FeNPs were acted as effective photocatalysts and their photocatalytic activity evaluated against alizarin yellow R (AYR) dye. The effect of different reaction conditions such as temperature, pH, time and catalyst loading on photocatalytic degradation of AYR dye was investigated under sunlight irradiation. The FeNPs showed promising photocatalytic activity and up to 93.7% of the dye was degraded in 42 h. The kinetics parameter of the reaction was also evaluated which showed that the photocatalytic degradation of AYR dye followed the pseudo-first-order reaction. In terms of better degradation, the role of FeNPs might be extended for the treatment of different organic dyes from wastewater.

Abstract:Alizarin red can be rapidly degraded in air-equilibrated aqueous TiO2 dispersion under visible light radiation (λ≥420 nm). UV-Vis, NMR, spin trapping ESR, IR and GC-MS were employed to study the photodegradation process of alizarin red. The degradation process was also fit for the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model, and the peroxide intermediates were observed during the process. The principal intermediate was phthalic acid according to the results of NMR, IR and GC-MS. The mineralization yield of alizarin red was ca 30% by means of COD measurement. ȮH radical was formed during the degradation process, and it was closely related to the degradation of the dye under visible light radiation.

Abstract:In this work, the Er3+:YAlO3/Fe-doped TiO2 composite, a high efficient TiO2-based photocatalyst, was synthesized by ultrasonic dispersion and liquid boil methods. Among which, the Er3+:YAlO3 is a kind of upconversion luminescence agent, which was prepared by nitrate-citric acid method. It can emit ultraviolet light under visible light excitation. The Er3+:YAlO3/Fe-doped TiO2 composite was characterized by X-ray diffraction and UV-vis spectral techniques. The degradation of Acid Red B dye was used to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of the Er3+:YAlO3/Fe-doped TiO2 composite under solar light irradiation. It was found that the photocatalytic activity of Er3+:YAlO3/Fe-doped TiO2 composite was much higher than that for the similar system with only Fe-doped TiO2. And the influencing factors, such as Er3+:YAlO3 content, irradiation time, initial concentration of Acid Red B, addition amount of Er3+:YAlO3/Fe-doped TiO2 and NaCl, on the photocatalytic degradation were also investigated. The Er3+:YAlO3 as upconversion luminescence agent can elevate the photocatalytic activity of Fe-doped TiO2 powder. Moreover, the Fe2+ ion can restrain the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Thus, this Er3+:YAlO3/Fe-doped TiO2 composite is a useful material for the detoxification of wastewater because it can efficiently utilize solar light by converting visible light into ultraviolet light.

Abstract:In this study, a novel visible light‐active photocatalyst named aluminum-doped titanium dioxide/zinc ferrite (Al-TiO 2 /ZnFe 2 O 4 ) nanocomposite was successfully synthesized by sol–gel and mechano-chemical routes. The structural properties of the fabricated photocatalyst were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance UV–vis spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The capability of the prepared photocatalyst was evaluated for the photodegradation of Indigo Carmine dye. It was observed that the Al-TiO 2 /ZnFe 2 O 4 nanocomposite containing 0.5%wt Al and 5.0%wt ZnFe 2 O 4 could completely degrade Indigo Carmine under visible light irradiation. Numerous factors affecting the photocatalytic process efficiency, such as pH, amount of the nano-photocatalyst, and concentration of the dye, were investigated and optimized. Total organic carbon measurement was carried out to determine the rate of Indigo Carmine dye mineralization in the photodegradation process. The nanocomposite showed good stability for three replication of the photocatalytic reaction. The kinetics of the reaction was studied, and based on the obtained results, the photocatalytic degradation of Indigo Carmine follows pseudo-first-order degradation kinetics. Trapping experiments using various scavengers indicated that the holes (h +) and superoxide radical ( · O 2 ‒ ) were the main reactive species in the photodegradation process of Indigo Carmine dye.

Enhanced Sonophotocatalytic Degradation of Acid Red 14 Using Fe3O4@SiO2/PAEDTC@MIL-101 (Fe) Based on Metal-Organic Framework

Abstract:Here, the magnetic Fe3O4@SiO2/PAEDTC@MIL-101 (Fe) with a new core-shell structure was synthesized, and its sonophotocatalytic properties were evaluated for acid red 14 (AR14) degradation. Particle characterizations were determined by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and vibrating-sample magnetometer (VSM), and the analysis results offered an excellent synthesis of mesoporous particles. Fe3O4@SiO2/PAEDTC@MIL-101 (Fe)/UV/US showed high degradation kinetics rate (0.0327 min−1) compared to sonocatalytic processes (0.0181 min−1), photocatalytic (0218 min−1), sonolysis (0.008 min−1), and photolysis (0.005 min−1). Maximum removal efficiencies of AR14 (100%) and total organic carbon (69.96%) were obtained at pH of 5, catalyst mass of 0.5 g/L, initial AR14 concentration of 50 mg/L, and ultrasound power of 36 W. Evaluation of BOD5/COD ratio during dye treatment confirmed that the sonophotocatalysis process can be useful for converting major contaminant molecules into biodegradable compounds. After recycling eight times, the prepared composite still has sonophotocatalytic degradation stability above 90% for AR14. Scavenging tests confirmed that holes (h+) and hydroxyl (•OH) were the pivotal agents in the decomposition system. Based on the results, the synthesized sample can be suggested as an excellent and promising sonophotocatalyst for the degradation of AR14 dye and its conversion into biodegradable compounds.

Photocatalytic degradation of Acid Red 18 by synthesized AgCoFe2O4@Ch/AC: Recyclable, environmentally friendly, chemically stable, and cost-effective magnetic nano hybrid catalyst

Abstract:Chitosan (Ch) is a linear biodegradable natural carbohydrate polymer and the most appealing biopolymer, such as low-cost biodegradability, biocompatibility, hydrophilicity, and non-toxicity. In this case, Ch was utilized to synthesize AgCoFe2O4@Ch/Activated Carbon (AC) by the modified microwave-assisted co-precipitation method. The physical and chemical structure of magnetic nanocomposites was analyzed and characterized by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Diffuse Reflection Spectroscopy (DRS), Value stream mapping (VSM), Fourier transform spectroscopy (FTIR) and BET. The effects of various parameters on the removal of dye (Acid Red18), including catalyst dose, dye concentration, pH, and time were studied. Results showed that the highest removal efficiencies were 96.68 % and 84 % for the synthetic sample and actual wastewater, respectively, in optimal conditions (pH: 3, the initial dye concentration: 10 mgL-1, the catalyst dose: 0.14 gL-1, time: 50 min). Mineralization, according to the COD analysis, was 89.56 %. Photocatalytic degradation kinetics of Acid Red 18 followed pseudo-first order and Langmuir-Hinshelwood with constants of kc = 0.12 mg L-1 min-1 and KL-H = 0.115 Lmg-1. Synthesized photocatalytic AgCoFe2O4@Ch/AC showed high stability and after five recycling cycles was able to remove the pollutant with an efficiency of 85.6 %. So, the synthesized heterogenous magnetic nanocatalyst AgCoFe2O4@Ch/AC was easily recycled from aqueous solutions and it can be used in the removal of dyes from industries with high efficiency.

Abstract:BackgroundMost dyes have aromatic rings in their structures, which make them highly toxic for human being and aquatic life. Heterogeneous photodegradation using TiO2 nanoparticles is one of the most applied methods used for dye removal. The wide band gap of TiO2 nanoparticles disables its use of the visible light and thus the vast potential of sunlight. To overcome this deficiency, Ag doped TiO2 nanoparticles were loaded on Fe-ZSM-5.MethodsFe-ZSM-5@TiO2-Ag photocatalyst was synthesized through sol-gel and hydrothermal methods to remove hazardous Reactive Red 195 (RR 195) from aqueous solution.ResultsPure phase of Fe-ZSM-5@TiO2-Ag with specific surface area of 332 m2/g was successfully synthesized. Formation of Ti-O-Ag functional group in the photocatalyst structure confirmed the nanocomposite form of the product. SEM and TEM images portrayed the synthesized zeolite and photocatalyst NPs in a size range of ≤100 nm with homogenous distribution of Ag doped TiO2 on Fe-ZSM-5 surface. The band-gap energy of Fe-ZSM-5@TiO2-Ag was calculated 1.97 eV at λ = 630 nm. Photocatalytic activity of the photocatalyst under natural sunlight was investigated through photodecomposition of RR 195 in an aqueous solution. The dye photodecomposition of about 98% was achieved at photocatalyst concentration of 400 mg/L, pH of 3, and dye concentration of 50 mg/L at ambient temperature after 120 min under sunlight using 0.5 ml of TiO2 and silver ammonium nitrate. The photocatalyst reusability was found significant after 5 frequent cycles.ConclusionThe novel Ag-doped TiO2-Fe-ZSM-5 nanocomposite with sunlight sensitivity can be a promising candidate to purify wastewater containing organic pollutants.

Photocatalytic performance of Co3O4/Na-Alginate nanocomposite for the dynamic removal of direct red 31 dye: Degradation and mechanical pathways

Abstract:This study examines the use of Co3O4 nanocomposite as a photo-catalyst in aqueous solution for photocatalytic degradation of dyes under UV. It has been observed that substrate concentrations, catalyst, pH, oxidant present and temperature, effect on dye degradation. The characterization of synthesized Co3O4 NPs and Co3O4/Na-Alg NC was done by UV-Visible, SEM, XRD and FTIR. Co3O4 NPs and Co3O4/Na-Alg NC were found to be 23 nm and 10 nm in size. The synthesized Co3O4/NaAlg NC were employed to degrade Direct Red 31 dye by optimization of experimental conditions. The highest degradation (68.24%) was attained at optimal conditions. TOC and COD were evaluated to check proficiency of this process. It was found that percentage reduction in TOC and COD was 66.7% and 65.2%. The generation of non-toxic products was validated by Direct Red 31 dye degradation route. The study concluded that the synthesized nanocomposites could be chosen for dyes-containing wastewater remediation. Because it is economical and environmentally beneficial, the produced Co3O4/Na-Alg NC is strongly advised for dye degradation.

Abstract:In this study, the photocatalytic degradation of Congo red dye was investigated using aluminum-doped nickel cadmium manganese prepared from a sol–gel auto-combustion process and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDX) for morphological and chemical studies. UV–Vis spectroscopic investigations were performed to explore the optical properties of the synthesised spinel ferrite. The results show that the particle size decreases, the surface area increases, and the band gap energy of ferrite nanoparticles decreases with aluminum doping, which is responsible for their enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. The photodegradation efficiency of the aluminum-doped catalyst was found to be remarkable, up to 99.54% for Congo red after 60 min as compared to undoped 56.78% in 60 min under normal conditions. At optimized conditions Congo red dye (10 ppm) was degraded by 100% in 30 min under pH 3, 40 °C, 100 mg/100 mL catalyst dosage, 200 W light intensity conditions. Superoxide radicals, together with hydroxyl radicals and holes, appear to be key species in the degradation mechanisms, as determined in previous studies. Therefore, the recycled catalyst showed excellent stability and reusability over five cycles of photocatalytic performance.

Abstract:The study investigated the performance of a novel magnetic hybrid MIL-53(Fe)/Fe3O4@TiO2 composite for removing reactive red 195 (RR195) dye from water using UVc light. Various analytical techniques were used to characterize the nanocomposite materials. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the presence of MIL-53(Fe) and TiO2 in the composite. FT-IR analysis identified carboxyl and Ti-O-Ti groups in the photocatalyst structure. The study evaluated the effects of pH, dye concentration, photocatalyst dosage, and temperature on RR195 photodegradation. The Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic model provided the best fit for the reaction rate. Optimal conditions for an 84 % dye degradation were found at a photocatalyst dose of 15 mg/100 mL, pH 3, dye concentration of 100 mg/L, and 35 °C after 120 minutes of UVc light exposure. Thermodynamic analysis indicated an endothermic reaction with positive values for Δ#H and negative values for Δ#S. The MIL-53(Fe)/Fe3O4@TiO2 composite demonstrated excellent stability and achieved over 90 % dye degradation after five cycles. Overall, the composite shows promise for treating wastewater with dyes.

Abstract:A novel photocatalyst, nanoporous anatase TiO2 crystalline particles coupled by homogeneously dispersed Keggin unit, H3PW12O40/TiO2, was prepared by a simple and rapid process, i.e., at a lower temperature (200°C) by combined sol–gel and programmed temperature hydrothermal methods. The resulting material was characterized by UV diffuse reflectant spectroscopy, XRD, 31P MAS NMR, TEM, and nitrogen adsorption. This new photocatalyst exhibited visible-light photocatalytic activity to decompose 10 various organic dyes in aqueous systems. It was attempted to determine the feasibility of such a degradation by varying the chemical structures, either azoic (Congo Red (CR), Methyl Orange (MO), Ponceau G (PG), Orange II (OII), and Eriochrome Blue Black B (EB)), or anthraquinonic (Alizarin S (AS)), or heteropolyaromatic (Methylene Blue (MB)), or fluorescent (Neutral Red (NR), Rhodamine B (RB)), or sulfonic (Fuchsin Acid (FA)). The intermediates and the final products of degradation were detected by electrospray mass spectrometer (ES-MS) and ion chromatography (IC). According to the experimental results, we proposed a possible mechanism of the photodegradation of dyes under visible-light irradiation in the aqueous system.
Facile Hydrothermal Synthesis of Nanocomposite Ag@Agcl/K2ti4o9 and Photocatalytic Degradation under Visible Light Irradiation

Abstract:Plasmonic Ag@AgCl-sensitized K2Ti4O9 composite photocatalysts (hereafter designated as Ag@AgCl/K2Ti4O9) were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal deposition–photoreduction method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–vis), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), nitrogen adsorption (BET) and photoluminescence measurements (PL). The synthesized Ag@AgCl in the composite photocatalyst possessed cubic structure, while the K2Ti4O9 crystal was monoclinic. The size of Ag@AgCl nanoparticles, which were uniformly scattered on the surface of K2Ti4O9, was distributed in the range of 100–200nm. The prepared Ag@AgCl/K2Ti4O9 samples also exhibited superior visible light absorption compared to the pure K2Ti4O9. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared materials for organics degradation was examined under visible light irradiation, and the effect of Ag@AgCl loading amount was studied and was found to influence the absorption spectra observed. The Ag@AgCl(30wt.%)/K2Ti4O9 composite photocatalyst synthesized by hydrothermal deposition–photoreduction method exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity, degrading 82.7% of Rhodamine B dye after 2h of irradiation. The catalyst stability was also investigated. The high photocatalytic activity of the prepared composite can be attributed to the surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag nanoparticles and synergy with the layered host material, and a mechanism of photocatalysis was discussed.
Enhanced Photodegradation of Organic Dyes Using Copper and Zinc Aluminate Nanophotocatalysts

Abstract:This study aims to enhance the photocatalytic efficiency of Cu x Zn 1-x Al 2 O 4 (x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8) nanophotocatalysts synthesized via a sol-gel self-combustion method. Rietveld analysis confirmed the formation of single-phase spinels with a face-centered cubic structure and Fd-3m space group symmetry, while electron density distribution analysis supported the ionic character of bonding within the material. Subsequent UV-visible spectroscopy revealed that the addition of Cu(II) reduced the band gap from 4.66 eV to 2.54 eV, facilitating enhanced light absorption. Consequently, the catalyst with x = 0.8 deteriorated 95% of methyl orange (MO) and 93% of rhodamine-B (RhB) in 120 minutes of visible light irradiation, following a pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The Cu 0.8 Zn 0.2 Al 2 O 4 sample demonstrated significant reusability and stability, with degradation rates of 93-79% for RhB and 95-81% for MO after four cycles. Scavenging studies indicated that photoexcited holes (h), hydroxyl radicals (OH•), and superoxide radicals (O2•−) were key factors in the degradation process. This study presents an improved approach for enhancing the photodegradation performance of the Cu 0.8 Zn 0.2 Al 2 O 4 catalyst for pharmaceutical and wastewater treatment applications.

Abstract:As the aim of all researcher in the field of water purification, is to develop new materials with high reactivity this study took the advance to apply the hybrid Ca(OH) 2 /Ag nanocomposite which is not used very often in this filed for the catalytic reduction of various types of dyes separately and in a mixture to assess their ability and effectiveness under contact with direct sunlight. The catalytic degradation of dyes was considered under various conditions: with and without adding reducing agent, and with and without applying sun light to evaluate the reductive ability of the catalyst under study at all conditions. The prepared Ca(OH) 2 /Ag hybrid nanocomposite, examined by XRD and TEM to study their morphology size and shape and to prove the presence of both nanoparticles Ca(OH) 2 and Ag and the results showed a high crystalline structure with an average particle size of 10.9 nm nanoparticles formed. The results of degradation of all dyes under test (acidic green dye 25 (AGD25), orange direct dye (ODD), and basic blue dye 41(BBD41)) showed that under applying the Ca(OH) 2 nanoparticles only the degradation percentage reached nearly 84, 67, 73.8% respectively, after 24 h. The primed nanocomposite Ca(OH) 2 /Ag exhibited an unusual ability to reduce all various tested dyes by using 0.2 g of prepared hybrid nanocatalyst, which was adequate to degrade a 50 ml solution of 200 mg/L concentration of each dye after nearly 60 min, this time differs somewhat with varying the type of dye where the degradation percentage reached 98, 90, and 97% for AGD25, ODD, and BBD41, respectively. The results revealed that the acid green 25 dye (AGD25) had the most significant degradation percentage compared with the other tested dyes, which grasped to 98% after only 60 min. Also, the degradation experiment carried out under various factors as initial concentration of dye, amount of catalyst, and temperature and the results showed that increasing the amount of catalyst and temperature enhances the degradation pf AGD25 to completion.

Abstract:Due to the uncontrolled discharge of textile effluents, the extent of reactive dyes in wastewater is rising. Due to their toxicity, efficient removal becomes quite essential. In this report, NiAl layered double hydroxide (LDH) has been prepared using the coprecipitation methodology for the photocatalytic degradation of reactive dyes. The as-prepared materials were characterized by different techniques, such as DRS, XRD, FESEM, HRTEM, and XPS etc. The XRD pattern of the LDH confirms the formation of the rhombohedral (R3m) phase. The FESEM analysis reveals the irregular hexagon-like shape of the prepared LDH. The NiAl LDH has 98(1) and 87(1)% photodegradation efficiencies towards the removal of reactive blue 19 and reactive Red 120, respectively. The control experiments in the presence of different scavengers confirm that hydroxyl radicals and superoxide anions participate in photocatalytic degradation. The HRMS studies confirm the formation of different smaller fragments, thereby providing a deeper insight into the photodegradation mechanism. Moreover, the demineralization efficiency (88.9%) is quite close to the degradation efficiency for reactive blue 19, signifying practically complete demineralization of the pollutants. The recyclability studies ascertain the high stability of the photocatalyst. Therefore, the as-prepared NiAl LDHs can be considered a promising photocatalyst for the removal of reactive dyes from wastewater.
