Abstract:Abstract Background Training within clinical areas is a vital part of nursing education. In order to effectively modify and facilitate such training, it is important to understand the perceptions of nursing educators and students about what constitutes effective practices. Objective: This study explores perceptions of Jordanian nursing students and clinical instructors related to clinical training and the learning environment. Design: Interpretative phenomenological qualitative approach was used in this study. Method: semi-structured focus group interviews in two Jordanian Universities Results: The study identified four themes focused on the experiences of these participants. Themes were attributes of clinical training placement, attributes of clinical instructors, attributes of clinical nursing curriculum and student’s attributes. The first theme had two subthemes “Structure and nature of clinical placement” and “Nurses’ collaboration”. Conclusion: The study recommendations are: nursing schools should plan students’ clinical experience taking into consideration the challenges associated with these attributes

Abstract:Introduction Establishing a supportive clinical environment is paramount for enhancing nursing students’ engagement in clinical practice, their clinical proficiencies, and satisfaction. The increase in nursing student enrollment at the Nursing College, driven by the collaborative efforts between Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) and universities, has given rise to concerns regarding the quality of education and clinical instruction. These concerns are primarily due to the increased student-to-instructor ratio. Furthermore, the unsupportive clinical settings and learning tensions underscore the need to understand students’ learning experiences and address research gaps within the field of clinical learning in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the undergraduate nursing students’ perceptions of their clinical learning environment, with a focus on perceived benefits and challenges. Methods This study used a cross-sectional survey design. The researchers administered a five-point Likert scale questionnaire, which had been adapted and contextualized, to a convenience sample of 217 third and fourth-year nursing students who willingly participated in this study. Results Despite the presence of positive aspects, such as diverse clinical experiences and strong support from both clinical instructors and peers, several challenges affect the students’ clinical learning. These challenges encompass disparate perceptions of supervision among staff nurses, learning tensions related to student academic workload, insufficient clinical supervision, and difficulties in finding assistance when needed. Conclusion There is a clear need to enhance the overall ward learning environment to optimize students’ academic motivation and clinical skills. Several measures can be taken to achieve this goal, including incentivizing and reducing the workload of staff nurses, investing in the professional development of clinical instructors, promoting peer interactions and group learning, and adopting a block pattern of education in years three and four for better clinical knowledge assimilation and reduced theoretical workload.

Abstract:Background The transition of nursing education from traditional methods to more advanced approaches is crucial for adequately preparing students to deliver competent care in tertiary care centers. Moreover, clinical faculty in nursing plays a key role in guiding nursing students through their clinical training in various healthcare settings. Purpose This study aims to describe the perceptions of undergraduate nursing students regarding the effectiveness of the learning environment and clinical teaching in clinical areas across various countries. Methods The study, conducted using a descriptive, cross-sectional research design, gathered data from 215 nursing students using the Clinical Learning Environment Inventory and Clinical Teaching Effectiveness Instrument. Data analysis included frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation, t-tests, analysis of variance, and correlation assessments to comprehend the impact of clinical teaching and learning environments. Results Nursing students’ perceptions of the clinical learning environment produced mean scores between 2.03 and 3.38 on a scale from 1 to 4, resulting in an overall mean score of 2.72 across 42 items. This indicates a general satisfaction with their clinical learning experiences. Regarding effective clinical teaching, the mean student responses varied from 3.02 to 3.40 out of a possible 5 points, with a total mean of 3.22. The study revealed notable correlations in the context of effective clinical teaching, particularly with demographic variables and the clinical learning environment. Specifically, a significant correlation with age ( r = .177, p = .009) and the clinical learning environment ( r = .572, p < .001) was identified. Conclusion The study concludes that students expressed overall satisfaction with their clinical learning experiences. They recognized the importance of participating in clinical training, fulfilling clinical responsibilities for assigned patients, exerting extra effort for learning, receiving support from preceptors in clinical settings, and being attentive to communications from staff. The collaboration between clinical preceptors and academic nursing lecturers is crucial in providing a positive learning environment for students to complete clinical tasks effectively.

Abstract:Background: Caring clinical instructors’ interaction with their nursing students in theclinical practical setting causes them to perceive this clinical setting as stimulating, and achallenge. Student nurses who feel cared for and valued are empowered to have self-confidence intheir clinical practical setting. Aim of this study: Was to assess caring behaviors of clinicalinstructors and clinical practical setting as perceived by nursing students and its relation to theirself-confidence. Design: Cross sectional design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: Thestudy was conducted at the Faculty of Nursing Benha University. Sampling: Simple randomsample of nursing students (322) in the second, third and fourth academic year. Tools of datacollection: Included three main tools; I: Caring behaviors questionnaire. II: Clinical practicalsetting questionnaire and III: Students self-confidence scale. Results: 87.9% of nursing studentshad high perception levels regarding total caring behaviors of clinical instructors. Also, 91.9% ofnursing students had high perception level regarding total clinical practical setting, and 89.8% ofthem had high level of self-confidence. Conclusion: There were highly statistically significantpositive correlations between caring behaviors, clinical practical setting and self-confidence.Recommendations: Establish an orientation program for preparation of newly appointed clinicalinstructors about how to assess students' needs and evaluate students' self-confidencecontinuously.

Abstract:Back ground: Clinical practice is the most significant element in nursing education. It helpsnursing students in using their cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills in combination. Theworth on clinical learning environment is a valid indicator to confirm the value on nursingcurriculum. Aim: The study was conducted to assess the effect of nursing students' perceptionsregarding clinical learning environment and supervision and its relation to their academicachievement at Najran University. Design: a descriptive correlation study design was used.Sample: A purposive sample (92) of nursing students at Najran University was involved. Tools:two tools were used tool (1) nursing students’ perception questionnaire; it included four parts.Tool (2) students’ achievement score according to their academic GPA. Results: nearly threequarters of the nursing students (70.7%) expressed satisfaction with the clinical learning trainer,supervisor, training process and orgazitional aspects. While about two thirds of the students foundthe clinical learning environment is satisfactory. About two thirds (64.1%) of students weresatisfied with the availability and adequacy of equipment and supplies. A substantial percentage(81.5%) of the students reported an overall satisfactory perception. Conclusion most of thestudents had positive perception regarding clinical learning environment and clinical supervision.The findings suggested that the total score was influenced by the total perception.Recommendation: Design an effective teaching and learning strategies to meet learningobjectives based on quality standards of nursing education and practice

Abstract:Abstract Objective Baccalaureate degree curricula consist of several professional values required for nursing students, which are taught in many ways. This study aimed to explore the perception of baccalaureate Jordanian nursing students regarding professional values and to assess the relationship between students’ demographics and their perception of professional values. Methods The study design was a descriptive, cross-sectional correlational design. A convenience sample of 182 Jordanian undergraduate nursing students enrolled at one of the most prominent universities in Jordan who completed and submitted a self-administered Nurses’ Professional Values Scale (NPVS) was considered for this study. Results The NPVS total score ranged from 37 to 130, with a relatively high total score mean (99.68 with a mean of 3.83 out of 5). The highest score domain in NPVS was “Justice” with a mean of 3.97, while the lowest ranked domain was “Activism” with a mean of 3.69. The correlation coefficient showed no statistically significant correlation between age nor accumulative students’ average with a total score of Nurses Professional Values Scale-revised (NPVS-R) and its subdomains. The t test results showed that gender and type of students’ enrollment (regular vs. upgrading) did not affect the means of NPVS-R and its subdomains. But differences were found to be statistically significant between the means of first year students and fourth year students in the total score of NPVS-R. Conclusions Findings of the study alert nursing educators to pay more attention to the importance of promoting the values related to “activism” and “professionalism” among nursing students. Suggestions for enhancing the roles of peer supervision and providing peer review to colleagues would contribute to improving nursing students’ performance and raising self-awareness because when nursing educators pay more attention to the items of these domains, better future nursing professionals, leaders, and researchers can be gained. Also, understanding nursing students’ perceptions of the importance of professional values and the difficulties in its application would be vital to enlighten educators about the areas that need improvement.

Abstract:Clinical learning environment play a vital role in bridging theory with practice, equipping nursing students with essential skills for patient care and support their smooth transition into the nursing workforce. To assess Palestinian nursing students' perceptions of clinical learning environment and supervision. A total of 308 undergraduate nursing students were conveniently recruited from Arab American University-Palestine for this descriptive cross-sectional study. Data collection utilized the Arabic version of the Clinical Learning Environment and Supervision plus Nurse Teacher scale. In general, nursing students expressed positive perceptions regarding their clinical learning environment (M = 130.56 ± 21.03), with the "supervisory relationship" and "role of nurse teacher" scoring highest (M = 3.85 ± 0.82 each). Conversely, the lowest rating was observed for "leadership style of the ward manager" (M = 3.8 ± 0.84). Fourth-year students and those trained in public hospitals showed significantly more positive perceptions (P < .001). Furthermore, students with higher professional satisfaction had more positive perceptions of the clinical learning environment (P < .001). The positive perceptions of Palestinian nursing students underscore the importance of the supervisory relationship and nurse teacher. However, finding suggest an area for improvement in the leadership style of the ward manager, emphasizing the necessity for strengthened partnership between nursing faculties and healthcare facilities. These insights expand our understanding of student perceptions and stress the importance of addressing these concerns to adequately prepare students for professional practice.

Abstract:Nurses have a critical role in quality improvement (QI) and patient safety. This necessitates gaining knowledge and mastering QI abilities to lead and participate in QI programs in clinical practice. To assess undergraduate nursing students' knowledge about QI, and experience of patient safety situation; and examine the relationship between obtaining information on healthcare quality and knowledge about QI in Jordan. A descriptive cross-sectional correlational design was used. The study engaged undergraduate nursing students from two Jordanian universities (Public and private universities). A convenient sample of 147 nursing undergraduate students from universities. Data were collected using paper-based self-reported questionnaires. The Quality Improvement Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (QulSKA) survey and the Healthcare Professional Patient Safety Assessment Curriculum Survey (HPPSACS) were used to assess knowledge about QI and patient safety. Out of 152 students, 147 completed the study. Overall, QI knowledge was moderate (mean score 57.7). Students from the private university scored significantly higher than public university students. Regarding patient safety, 74.8% of students observed medical errors in clinical areas. However, only 57.1% of the students disclosed a medical error to a faculty member. Also, the results showed a significant positive correlation between knowledge level about QI and obtaining information about QI, quality in healthcare, and patient safety from sources other than the undergraduate nursing program at universities ( p ≤.001). This study suggests a potential gap in QI education. Integrating QI concepts into nursing curricula may be necessary to prepare future nurses for healthcare quality improvement.

Abstract:Background: Clinical learning is viewed as a fundamental and essential part of nursing education. Clinical training offers chances to use the theoretical knowledge in practice, raise problem-solving and executive skills, learn time management, collaborate with others, and develop professionalism. Objective: This study intended to reveal the perceptions and experiences of the clinical learning environment of undergraduate nursing students and the influencing factors of the clinical learning process. Methodology: A mixed-method approach comprising qualitative, exploratory, and phenomenological research design was used. Nonprobability purposive sampling technique was applied to select the sample. Data were collected by mixed methods of inquiries of 14 in-depth interviews, 4 focus group discussions, and clinical observations from third- and fourth-year bachelor of nursing students. A content analysis approach was used to analyze the collected contents. Results: The study identified seven factors influencing nursing students' clinical learning experience. An expert clinical instructor, supportive role of clinical nurses, reliable communication and relationship, job description, theory-practice integration, availability of resources, and social and psychological factors are essential for effective clinical learning. Conclusion: Nursing students face many challenges in the clinical learning environment. Abstract:Nursing students' attitudes and levels of self-confidence can be negatively impacted by unfavourable experiences they have while completing an internship. This demonstrates the importance of conducting research into the experiences of nursing students as they advance through their education. This study investigates the difficulties and obstacles that nursing students encounter while completing their internships at a hospital in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The hospital is located in Saudi Arabia. During the course of the research, a qualitative exploratory study design was utilized, and a total of eight nursing students participated. In order to collect data, face-to-face semi-structured interviews were carried out with participants. In addition to that, a thematic analysis was performed on the data. The nursing students faced a number of significant challenges and problems, the most significant of which were a lack of support, mistrust, improper behaviour, and an absence of a preceptorship program. These problems have a negative impact on nursing practice in clinical settings because of how they manifest themselves. The findings of the study indicate that there is a high probability of achieving favourable results by enhancing the internship program.

Abstract:Background Clinical learning is an essential component of nursing education. It strongly contributes to the acquisition of students’ clinical skills and enables them to link theory to practice. However, clinical learning is considered a challenging experience for undergraduate nursing students. Objective The study aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of the challenges experienced by undergraduate nursing students during their training in different clinical settings. Methods This study utilized a phenomenological qualitative design with data collected through semi-structured interviews. Thirty-four nursing students from the second and third years were interviewed between March and July 2023. The qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke's six-step model. Results and Discussion The findings of the study revealed that all participants had experienced several challenges during their clinical learning, which had a negative impact on their skill development. As a result, four main themes emerged regarding the challenges associated with clinical learning, including the theory-practice gap, the unsupportive clinical environment, the lack of supervision and support, and the inappropriate scheduling of internships. Ultimately, all participants recognized the need for changes to be made to enhance learning in clinical settings. Conclusion The present study has concluded that Moroccan nursing students face numerous challenges when learning in clinical settings. This study contributes to the existing literature by providing guidelines for Moroccan nursing educators to effectively guide and support their students in clinical areas. Therefore, based on the findings of this study, further discussions regarding potential changes and future research can be conducted.

Abstract:AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To present an examination of hermeneutic interpretations statements in documentation; occurrences, nature and significant patterns, before and after the implementation of an electronic patient record and the documentation model quality assurance, problem solving and caring. BACKGROUND The problem-solving and caring model facilitates the systematisation and formatting of nursing documenting in electronic patient record. Text formats are designed for record notes to indicate how the text is to be presented and organised. A narrative text format is designed to facilitate a caring perspective in nursing report notes. This format allows the inclusion of hermeneutic interpretations statements to visualise the understanding of the patient. DESIGN Documentation material was examined in a pretest-post-test design. METHOD Report notes were analysed with the aid of Gadamer's hermeneutic interpretation process. The horizon of interpretation was formed by qualities of caring described in caring philosophy and caring theory. RESULTS One hundred and six reports containing hermeneutic interpretation statements reflecting caring were identified. The finding shows that the number of such information is small and decreases during the project. CONCLUSION The result may indicate that hermeneutic interpretation statements in documentation may diminish with the introduction of electronic patient records. This can lead to incomplete information exchange if face-to-face reporting is discontinued. For that reason, electronic patient records need an information structure facilitating information formatted to reflect caring. The use of such a format requires training to a larger extent that was offered during this project. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE This study might enhance the clinician's awareness of materialising both analytical and hermeneutical thinking processes in clinical reasoning when documenting nursing care. New documentation tools and routines might favour documentation based on analytical thinking processes with the consequence that essential information of importance for the individual patient's care might be lost.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Through internship programs, nursing students learn information and skills in multiple hospital departments. Internships can also help with transitioning from student roles to graduate roles. However, the factors contributing to successful clinical internships in different education and health systems have not yet been sufficiently explored.OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to explore the factors that contribute to successful clinical internships in both public and private hospitals in Saudi Arabia.DESIGN: This study uses a qualitative descriptive design.SETTING: Due to precautionary measures for COVID-19 and the inclusion of participants from different locations across Saudi Arabia, this study was conducted virtually.PARTICIPANTS: The study was conducted with a purposive sample of 16 nursing interns and four instructors.METHODS: Data were collected via semi-structured interviews to provide a wide variety of perspectives from nursing students and instructors. Each interview was recorded, transcribed verbatim in Arabic, and then translated into English. Collected data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach.RESULTS: Three facilitators of success and four barriers to success emerged in the study. Facilitators of success included the program curriculum, hospital internship program, and contribution to the nursing board exam. Barriers to success were as follows: exploitation, lack of self-confidence, lack of incentives, and the long duration of the programs.CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study could contribute to the creation of more effective clinical internship. It is recommended that clinical internship programs be enhanced and that appropriate support be given to nursing students.

Dynamic contact angles in oil-aqueous polymer solutions.

Abstract:Polymer flooding is an important process in enhanced oil recovery. The displacement front is unstable when low viscosity brine displaces the heavy crude oil in the reservoir. Water-soluble polymers are added to the brine to increase its viscosity which stabilizes the displacement process. To analyze the displacement process at the micro-level, we have investigated the dynamic contact angles in silicone oil-polymer (polyethylene oxide) solution and for the first time. The dynamic contact angle is the apparent contact angle at the three-phase contact line which governs the capillary pressure, and thus is important for the displacement process. The data show no obvious signs of either shear thinning or elastic behavior, although for some systems with highest elastic effects some unexplained effects on dynamic contact angles are observed that correlate with elastic effects. Overall, dynamic contact angles are explained well using existing models for two Newtonian fluids, when the zero shear viscosity is used for the polymer solution.

Abstract:Background: Professional identity has ended up as vital challenges regarding education in faculty of nursing. Aim: The aim of the current research is examine the Influence of clinical learning quality on the development of nursing students' professional identity. Subjects and Methods: There was descriptive correlational research design. This research has been applied in Port Said University. All nursing students at third and fourth academic year were included. Data collected using one tool consisted of three parts: A Self structured questionnaire data sheet, Learning Environment Scale and professional identity scale. Results: The result revealed that: about two thirds of students (67%) perceived their environment as low effective learning environment and more than four fifth of students (93%) had positive professional identity.The study results recommended that: Faculty member should encourage students to be interested by social problems associated with nursing.

Abstract:In this study, phononic crystals are employed to elastic waveguide transducers for controlling its beam patterns. When signals from the transducer array are inputted to a homogeneous waveguide, they are distorted as propagating due to generation of multiple wave modes and wave dispersion. For this reason, it is difficult to apply transducer array to manipulate the beam pattern of waveguide transducers. Here, the self-collimation of phononic crystals is applied to guide an input signal in the waveguide, maintaining the phase difference between active elements at the exit of the waveguide. To achieve this, the lattice parameters of phononic crystals are carefully chosen to exhibit the self-collimation effect at the operating frequency of the waveguide transducer and the beam steering through the proposed waveguide is demonstrated by numerical simulations.

Abstract:Background: Stress has been linked to different life stages. One of those stages is the transition during the college period. Nursing has been identified as one of the challenges that face student, as its deals with human life. In addition, high levels of stress may lead to health problems and academic dissatisfaction. Objective: To explore clinical stressors among nursing students in Saudi Arabia. Methods: This study employed a qualitative study design; therefore, the collection of data was employed using semi-structured face-to-face interviews with nursing students. Data were analyzed through the use of content analysis. Results: Analysis of the data identified three categories of students’ stressors during clinical training: the urge to learn, how to learn communication, and the nature of the hospital environment. Conclusion: As this study highlighted the clinical stressors facing nursing students, recommendations for nursing education and clinical environments are mentioned in order to ease the stressors.
Nursing students' experiences of the clinical learning environment at Hafr Al Batin University: A cross-sectional study

Abstract:The clinical learning environment plays a crucial role in nursing education, significantly affecting student learning. This research aimed to examine the learning experiences of nursing students at the University of Hafr Al Batin, specifically within their clinical learning environments. The study used the Clinical Learning Environment, Supervision, and Nurse Teacher (CLES+T) scale to assess these experiences in hospital placements. Participants included nursing students in their second year and beyond who had completed at least one clinical placement in hospitals. The research adopted a quantitative approach, utilizing descriptive and inferential statistical methods for data analysis. Results indicated that final-year students were less satisfied with certain aspects, including the physical environment of the ward, supervisory relationships, and the involvement of nurse teachers. In contrast, second and third-year students generally viewed the clinical learning environment more positively. These outcomes are consistent with findings from international studies. The study suggests the importance of enhancing the roles of nurse teachers and supervisors to improve nursing students' learning experiences. Further qualitative research is recommended to gain a deeper understanding of these issues.
Correlates of Stress and Coping among Jordanian Nursing Students during Clinical Practice in Psychiatric/Mental Health Course

Abstract:Training in psychiatric settings is stressful for nursing students. The purpose of this study was to examine the correlations between the students' characteristics, their stress degrees, stressors and types of coping strategies they experience during training in psychiatric course. A descriptive, correlational, longitudinal design was used. Sixty-five undergraduate nursing students were recruited randomly from five Jordanian universities. Self-report questionnaires were administered at the second semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. The findings showed that students who utilized avoidance or transference strategies reported high stress degrees. Moreover, the results showed that those students who were in the fourth year, with a low family income, who avoid extracurricular activities, with a low academic grade or who registered in other clinical course(s) reported high stress degrees. These findings present a worthy data for the clinical instructors that facilitate students training in psychiatric settings and promote their psychosocial well-being.
