Abstract:Soft-spark micro-arc oxidation (MAO) is considered a potential solution for eliminating the porosity on the surface coating of titanium alloys during the MAO process. However, the mechanisms behind soft-sparking and the growth of coatings on Ti alloys are not yet fully understood. This study aimed to investigate the growth pattern of soft-spark MAO coating on titanium alloys by using sodium silicate as the electrolyte and manipulating the soft-sparking duration. The research focused on analyzing the positive and negative pulse voltage-time response curves, surface micromorphology, surface composition, cross-sectional structure, phase composition, dynamic potential polarization curve, microhardness, and thickness growth curve during the soft-spark process. The research findings revealed that soft spark discharges occurred in the plasma atmosphere near the surface of the external porous layer. The sparks penetrated the weak points of the amorphous interface layer (existing between the MAO coating and the substrate), forming filamentary discharges within the coating. This phenomenon led to the formation of a significant amount of rutile phases and bubble pores within the soft-spark coating, promoting the expansion of soft-sparks into the coating and facilitating the growth of the soft-spark coating. While the inner hardness of the soft-spark MAO film reached 1146 HV, the plasma atmosphere discharge also led to the formation of numerous filamentary channels and gas pores within the coating. Consequently, the coating's corrosion resistance did not show any improvement.

Abstract:Soft sparking during micro-arc oxidation can form a ceramic coating with high hardness and high bond strength on titanium alloy while avoiding the continuous strong micro-arc that can damage the substrate properties and the integrity of the coating. Existing studies have reported that the soft spark discharge is significantly influenced by the electrolyte anions, and the detailed mechanism of its influence remains unclear. Therefore, we considered four monolithic electrolytes, namely Na2B4O7, NaF, Na3PO4, and Na2SiO3, for the bipolar pulsed micro-arc oxidation (MAO) treatment of the Ti6Al4V alloy to investigate the mechanism of the soft sparking discharge and the affections of different electrolytes on the soft sparking discharge. The results showed that soft spark discharges were observed in both Na2SiO3 and Na3PO4 electrolytes while not in Na2B4O7 and NaF electrolytes. We attributed this situation to the fact that the deposition of Si and P elements in the coating changed the structure and passivation ability of the coating and affected the rate of ion transport and electron tunneling in the coating, resulting in forming a thick and dense, soft spark MAO inner layer. Additionally, the soft sparking discharge facilitated particle deposition and did not destroy the structure of the initial film layer, and also had no significant effect on the corrosion resistance.

Abstract:To improve the corrosion resistance of TiNi alloy fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), a porous oxidation layer was synthesized by micro-arc oxidation in a sodium aluminate and sodium silicate electrolyte. The influences of the applied voltage and the processing time on the morphology of oxidation layer were investigated, and the corrosion behavior of the oxidation layer in artificial saliva was evaluated and compared with that of the as-fabricated LPBF alloy. The results indicate that, as increasing the applied voltage and the processing time, the oxidation layer becomes uniform and integrated. The optimum parameters are with an applied voltage of 450 V and processing time of 40 min. The oxidation layer primarily contains α-Al 2 O 3 and consists of two layers, i.e., a thin, compact and uniform inner layer and a porous outer layer. The formation of stable α-Al 2 O 3 phase in the coating and its almost non-porous dense structure reduce the channels for corrosion ions to penetrate into the substrate through coating, thereby improving the corrosion resistance of TiNi alloy.

Study of Coating Growth Direction of 6061 Aluminum Alloy in Soft Spark Discharge of Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation

Abstract:Conventional plasma electrolytic oxidation treatments produce oxide coatings with micron-scale discharge pores, resulting in insulation and wear and corrosion resistance far below that expected of highly dense Al2O3 coatings. The introduction of cathodic polarization during the plasma electrolytic oxidation process, especially when the applied cathode-to-anode current ratio (Rpn) is greater than 1, triggers a unique plasma discharge phenomenon known as "soft sparking". The soft spark discharge mode significantly improves the densification of the anode ceramic layer and facilitates the formation of the high-temperature α-Al2O3 phase within the coating. Although the soft spark discharge phenomenon has been known for a long time, the growth behavior of the coating under its discharge mode still needs to be studied and improved. In this paper, the growth behavior of the coating before and after soft spark discharge is investigated with the help of the micro-morphology, phase composition and element distribution of a homemade fixture. The results show that the ceramic layer grows mainly along the oxide–electrolyte direction before the soft spark discharge transformation; after the soft spark discharge, the ceramic layer grows along the oxide–substrate direction. It was also unexpectedly found that, under soft spark discharge, the silicon element only exists on the outside of the coating, which is caused by the large size and slow migration of SiO32−, which can only enter the ceramic layer and participate in the reaction through the discharge channel generated by the strong discharge. In addition, it was also found that the relative phase content of α-Al2O3 in the coating increased from 0.487 to 0.634 after 10 min of rotary spark discharge, which is an increase of 30.2% compared with that before the soft spark discharge transition. On the other hand, the relative phase content of α-Al2O3 in the coating decreased from 0.487 to 0.313 after 20 min of transfer spark discharge, which was a 55.6% decrease compared to that before the soft spark discharge transformation.

Abstract:The aim of this work was to explore the effect of microscopic surface topographies of the Ti-6Al-4 V alloy on the coating growth behaviour during the initial stages of micro-arc oxidation (MAO). Firstly, MAO treatments were carried out on the surfaces of Ti-6Al-4 V alloys with different surface morphologies for 5, 10 and 15 min respectively. Second, the effects of substrate topographies on the roughness, porosity, thickness, and microstructure of the coatings were studied. Then, the corrosion resistance of the MAO-treated titanium alloys was assessed by electrochemical analysis. Finally, the formation mechanisms and morphological results of the oxide layer were discussed and illustrated graphically. The results showed that the surface morphologies of the substrate affected the micro-arc discharge behaviour during the process of oxidation. Notably, rough areas on the substrate surface facilitated the breakdown of the passivation film, which was evidenced by the early appearance of plasma discharges in these areas. However, surface morphology with uneven distribution of pores observed in the oxide layer formed by the rough substrate. The coatings grown on the grooves were more porous than those grown in other areas, due to the non-uniformity of the micro-discharge on the rough substrate surface.

Abstract:Highlights • The incorporation of the Ti-reinforcement phase led to a retardation in the onset of micro-arc discharge in AZ91/Ti composites. • The morphology of the MAO coating on AZ91/Ti composites was significantly influenced by the plasma discharge of Ti-reinforcement phase. • AZ91/Ti composites exhibit enhanced corrosion resistance following micro-arc oxidation in a silicate-based electrolyte. Magnesium matrix composites with both high strength and ductility have been achieved by introducing pure Ti particles. However, the properties of the surfaces of the composites need to be improved by surface technology, such as micro-arc oxidation (MAO). In this study, we investigated the influence of the Ti-reinforcement phase on coating growth and evolution by subjecting both AZ91 alloy and AZ91/Ti composite to MAO treatment using silicate-based and phosphate-based electrolytes. Results revealed that the Ti-reinforcement phase influenced the MAO process, altering discharge behavior, and leading to a decreased cell voltage. The vigorous discharge of the Ti-reinforcement phase induced the formation of coating discharge channels, concurrently dissolving and oxidizing Ti-reinforcement to produce a composite ceramic coating with TiO 2 . The MAO coating on the AZ91/Ti composite exhibited a dark blue macromorphology and distinctive local micromorphological anomalies. In silicate electrolyte, a "volcano-like" localized morphology centered on the discharge channel emerged. In contrast, treatment in phosphate-based electrolyte resulted in a coating morphology similar to typical porous ceramic coatings, with visible radial discharge micropores at the reinforcement phase location. Compared to the AZ91 alloy, the coating on the AZ91/Ti composite exhibited lower thickness and higher porosity. MAO treatment reduced the self-corrosion current density of the AZ91/Ti surface by two orders of magnitude. The silicate coating demonstrated better corrosion resistance than the phosphate coating, attributed to its lower porosity. The formation mechanism of MAO coatings on AZ91/Ti composites in phosphate-based and silicate-based electrolytes was proposed. Structure, Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Self-Toughening TiSiN/Ag Multilayer Coatings on Ti6Al4V Prepared by Arc Ion Plating

Abstract:The TiSiN/Ag multilayer coatings deposited on Ti6A14V alloy substrate using the multi -arc ion plating system. All multilayer coatings had a same total thickness of about 2.5 mu m, and the TiSiN layer had a fixed thickness and the Ag layer had different thicknesses. Evidence concluded from X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microcopies, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that nanocrystallites and amorphous microstructure of nc-TiN and amorphous Si-3 N-4 for individual TiSiN layers, where amorphous Si3N4 around nanocrystallites TiN boundaries, and ductile nanocrystallites silver clusters and metallic silver for individual Ag layers which can limit continuous growth of single (200) preferential orientation coarse columnar TiN crystal. In addition, the TiN grain size presented a decreasing trend with the decrease of the thickness of Ag layers. The TiSiN/Ag multilayer coatings showed a significantly improved toughness compared with the TiSiN coating. The individual Ag layers of nano-multilayer coatings, not only as a self-lubricating but also as a barrier which inhibited micro cracks propagation, the formation of threading defects throughout all coatings, cause energy dissipation by passing through the interface zones without making the coating fail and at the same time prevented the aggressive seawater through the micro-pores. Moreover, improved toughness, excellent wear resistance together with high hardness, H/E and H-3/E-*2 values were found for the TiSiN/Ag multilayer coating with the individual Ag layers of 22.22 nm. Microstructure and Superior Corrosion Resistance of an In-Situ Synthesized NiTi-Based Intermetallic Coating via Laser Melting Deposition

Abstract:A nickel–titanium (NiTi)-based intermetallic coating was in-situ synthesized on a Ti–6Al–4V (TC4) substrate via laser melting deposition (LMD) using Ni–20Cr and TC4 powders. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, a digital microhardness tester and an electrochemical analyzer were used to evaluate the microstructure, Vicker’s microhardness and electrochemical corrosion resistance of the intermetallic coating. Results indicate that the microstructure of the intermetallic coating is composed of NiTi2, NiTi and Ni3Ti. The measured microhardness achieved is as high as ~850 HV0.2, ~2.5 times larger than that of the TC4 alloy, which can be attributed to the solid solution strengthening of Al and Cr, dispersion strengthening of the intermetallic compounds, and grain refinement strengthening from the rapid cooling of LMD. During the electrochemical corrosion of 3.5% NaCl solution, a large amount of Ti ions were released from the intermetallic coating surface and reacted with Cl− ions to form [TiCl6]2 with an increase in corrosion voltage. In further hydrolysis reactions, TiO2 formation occurred when the ratio of [TiCl6]2− reached a critical value. The in-situ synthesized intermetallic coating can achieve a superior corrosion resistance compared to that of the TC4 alloy.

Abstract:Abstract Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) technology can in-suit generate coatings with high hardness and strong adhesion on the surface of titanium alloy, thereby greatly improve the application range of titanium alloy. The morphology and properties of coatings are controlled by changing electrical parameters such as duty cycle and oxidation time. This work mainly aims to study the influence of different duty cycles and oxidation times on MAO coatings microstructures and properties of Ti6Al4V alloy under the condition of constant voltage and pulse frequency. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) were used to investigate into MAO coatings microstructure and phase composition. The roughness, porosity, thickness, and microhardness of MAO coatings were evaluated respectively by roughness tester, thickness gauge, and microhardness tester. The results show that surface morphology of the MAO coatings change from crater-like micropores to foam-like protrusions with the enhancement of duty cycle and oxidation time. When duty cycle is 50% and oxidation time is 30 min respectively, the ejection of the molten material made the MAO coating surface appear foam-like protrusions, and the surface morphology is seriously damaged. When the oxidation time and the duty cycle are 30 min and 10% respectively, the rutile phase intensity is the maximum, and further increasing the duty cycle will lead to a rutile phase decrease. In a limit range, the hardness rise with increase of oxidation time and duty cycle. The highest hardness is 668.85 HV.

Abstract:Titanium alloys are considered lightweight alloys and are widely applied across various industries. However, titanium alloys are prone to wearing out or galvanic corrosion. In this paper, Ti6Al4V alloy was scanned by using a continuous laser in different atmospheres to prepare composite hardening coatings. The scanning speed was varied to adjust the heat input. When the alloy was irradiated in air, a whole coating composed of TiO2 and TiN was fabricated. With the increase in scanning speed from 10 mm/s to 20 mm/s, the melting area of the surface decreased from about 1.8 mm to 0 mm, but the thickness of the coatings underwent no significant change. When prepared under compressed oxygen with a speed of 10 mm/s, a coating with a thickness of about 60 μm was prepared. In addition, the layered phenomenon occurred, and an N-enriched layer was formed at the bottom of the coating. The coatings were composed of TiO2, TiN and Ti. With the increase in the scanning speed, the thickness of the coatings decreased obviously. The testing results show that the hardness of samples Ti-A10 and Ti-O10 increased by around 160% and 140% over that of untreated samples, respectively. The anti-corrosion performance of the samples treated via laser scanning was also improved.

Abstract:Micro Arc Oxidation (MAO) is an electrochemical surface treatment process to produce oxide protective coatings on some metals. MAO is usually conducted in an aqueous electrolyte, which requires an intensive bath cooling and leads to the formation of a coating containing impurities that originate in the electrolyte. In the current work, we applied an alternative ceramic coating to the Ti-6Al-4V alloy using the MAO process in molten nitrate salt at a temperature of 280 °C. The obtained coating morphology, chemical and phase composition, and corrosion resistance were investigated and described. The obtained results showed that a coating of 2.5 µm was formed after 10 min of treatment, containing titanium oxide and titanium‒aluminum intermetallic phases. Morphological examination indicated that the coating is free of cracks and contains round, homogeneously distributed pores. Corrosion resistance testing indicated that the protective oxide coating on Ti alloy is 20 times more resistive than the untreated alloy.
Study on Preparation of Micro-Arc Oxidation Film on TC4 Alloy with Titanium Dioxide Colloid in Electrolyte

Abstract:The micro-arc oxidation film on TC4 alloy was prepared using a multifunctional micro-arc oxidation (MAO) power source. The effect of nano-titania colloid addition on the growth process, microstructure, and comprehensive mechanical properties of titanium alloy micro-arc oxidation films was studied by gradient concentration. The results show that, with the increase in titanium dioxide colloid content, the intensity of the discharge phenomenon during the MAO process increases, and the average current density gradually increases. The film thickness is gradually increased from 111.06 μm to 159.8 μm, and the roughness first decreases and then increases. The XRD results show that the rutile content in the film layer is increased with titanium dioxide colloid in the electrolyte. This resulted in an increase in the density of the film, and lead to the corrosion resistance of film improved. When the concentration of titanium dioxide colloid is 1.5 g/L, the comprehensive performance of the film is the best.

Abstract:The Microarc Oxidation (MAO) layer on titanium alloy was mainly composed of TiO2, and there were some defects, such as holes and cracks, which made the performance of the MAO layer not ideal. To enhance the properties of the MAO layer, titanium carbide (TiC) particles were added to the electrolyte of a phosphate–silicate system as an additive. Consequently, the MAO layers containing the TiC phase on Ti6Al4V alloy were produced. The MAO process, composition, microstructure, and hardness of the MAO layer were comprehensively analyzed. Their frictional performance was assessed under reciprocating friction conditions without lubrication. The findings suggested that added TiC particles in the electrolyte played a significant role in creating the MAO layer, enhancing its thickness. The electrolyte without TiC particles produced an MAO layer primarily composed of TiO2 in two different mineral forms (rutile and anatase). Adding TiC particles resulted in the presence of TiC within the MAO layer, thereby facilitating the formation of a reinforced oxide layer. This addition also led to an improvement in the densification of the layer and a reduction in porosity. Notably, corrosion resistance testing indicated that incorporating 6 g/L TiC into the electrolyte resulted in superior performance compared with that obtained from the base electrolyte alone by achieving 1.4 times higher corrosion resistance. Moreover, a hardness value of 690 HV for the MAO layer was attained at a content level of 9 g/L TiC, demonstrating a significant 65% enhancement compared to the base oxide layer. This finding also demonstrated significantly enhanced friction property with a wear-volume reduction to 0.81 mm3. The findings on the relationship between the preparation of the MAO layer and its structure and properties can provide valuable guidance for designing and preparing the MAO layer.

Abstract:Titanium alloys are known for their excellent corrosion resistance; however, low surface hardness results in poor wear resistance, which limits its potential application. This study employs a novel two-step process to embed a hard Ni coating containing a mixture of nanosized particles (Al2O3 and TiO2) into the surface of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy using an electric arc produced during the inert tungsten gas welding process. The surface of the sample was evaluated using Vickers Microhardness, Scanning electron microscopy, Energy dispersive spectroscopy and pin-on-plate wear testing. Microstructural analysis showed that impregnating the titanium surface with Ni/(Al2O3 and TiO2) nanomaterials resulted in the formation of a hard martensitic structure to a depth of approximately 2 mm below the surface. The changes observed are driven by modification of the surface chemistry and the presence of nickel, causing grain size reduction, solid solution strengthening and dispersion strengthening of the treated layer by the nanoparticles. The hardness of the treated layer increased by more than 180% when 40 nm Al2O3 and 30 nm TiO2 particles were embedded into the surface. Similarly, the wear resistance of the treated surface improved by 100%.
Behaviors of Micro-Arcs, Bubbles, and Coating Growth during Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation of β-Titanium Alloy

Abstract:The plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of a titanium alloy, Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al, was performed to develop mechanical applications by improving the tribological characteristics. The behaviors of micro-arcs, bubbles, and coating growth during the PEO process were investigated under three different operating conditions, constant voltage (CV) operation, constant current operation (CC), and short treatment time (ST) operation, to control the surface structure and function by the PEO process. A low friction coefficient was achieved by CV operation at 500 V and by CC operation at 3.0 kA/m2. The maximum coating thickness of 6.88 μm was achieved by CV operation at 500 V and 60 s. From the observation of micro-arcs, bubbles, and discharge craters by ST operation, the minimum discharge diameter of the micro-arc was 8 μm, and the discharge craters had a discharge pore size of 0.3 μm in diameter in the center with a petal-shaped burr around the discharge pore. During the PEO process, no bubble bursts around the micro-arcs and no backfilling of the discharge pores by the ejected materials were observed. Thus, the discharge pores remain a porous structure in the PEO coating for Ti. The utilization efficiency of the total charge density by CV operation above 300 V was lower than that by the conventional anodization process. The utilization efficiency of total charge density by CC operation was higher than that by the conventional anodization process.

Abstract:The article presents the promising field of micro-arc oxidation as a surface modification method with the purpose to improve the corrosion resistance of titanium, aluminum, aluminum alloys and composites. Micro-arc oxidation is an electrochemical process that forms a thick, hard and highly adhesive ceramic oxide layer on the metal surfaces, thereby providing excellent protective properties. This method of hardening the metal surface was used in production in the manufacture of parts from AA5086 and VT6 alloys for industrial fans operating in chemically hazardous facilities. When using micro-arc oxidation, the strength and wear resistance of the internal parts of the fan to aggressive medium was increased. By that increased the trouble-free operation time and reduced the likelihood of destruction of the internal parts of the fan, which subsequently made it safer for employees to operate the fans in close proximity to the work area. This work examines the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys and composites, since the indicated materials are also widely used in various branches of industry. It also considers the role of alloying elements in influencing corrosion behavior, as well as the influence of microstructure and processing methods on corrosion resistance. In addition, the discussion extends to the corrosion behavior and protective measures for aluminum matrix composites, including the inclusion of reinforcing phases such as ceramic particles, fibers or nanoparticles. Throughout the article, the corrosion resistance of micro-arc oxidation treated surfaces, anodized aluminum layers, aluminum alloys and composites are critically assessed, analyzing the factors influencing their protective characteristics, such as the morphology, composition and thickness of the oxide layers, as well as environmental factors.
Mechanistic analysis of improving the corrosion performance of MAO coatings on Ti-6Al-4V alloys by annealing

Abstract:Titanium and its alloys find extensive application within the realms of dentistry and orthopedics due to their remarkable chemical stability. Nevertheless, they are still susceptible to corrosion in harsh environments. Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) emerges as a potent methodology for enhancing the corrosion resistance of titanium and its alloys, achieved through the generation of a ceramic stratum atop the material's surface. The corrosion resistance of MAO coatings in clinical applications is closely related to their microstructure. This manuscript systematically explores the effect of annealing temperature on the phase composition and microstructure of MAO coatings. Furthermore, the evolution of the surface properties and the crystal structure of coatings is meticulously discussed and illustrated. The results show that the corrosion resistance of coatings exhibits an ascending trajectory followed by a subsequent decline, coinciding with the augmentation of the annealing temperature. This behavior can be attributed to the structural evolution of coatings caused by the gradual increase of the annealing temperature. At the optimum temperature (400 °C), the annealing treatment leads to the crystallization of the coating as well as to a decrease in the surface porosity, resulting in the formation of a compact and continuous multilayer microstructure. The decrease in porosity can be attributed to the diffusion-reaction of oxygen from the air with titanium from the discharge channel (titanium oxide), resulting in the formation of TiO 2 particles that effectively fill the pores. The decrease in corrosion resistance of the coatings after annealing at 800 °C is due to the phase transition of TiO 2 which leads to the expansion of cracks inherent in the oxide layer to form A-H cracks. Therefore, this study shows that the microstructure of MAO coatings can be adjusted by post annealing treatment (400 °C) to obtain a desirable oxide layer with appropriate porosity, crystallinity and chemical composition, thus improving its corrosion resistance.

Abstract:In this work, micro-arc oxidation was applied to fabricate a high voltage resistance Al 2 O 3 -based ceramic coating on the surface of aluminum alloy. The microstructure and insulating properties of the coatings were characterized by XRD, SEM and breakdown voltage testers. The growth behavior and insulation property of the oxide layer in "soft" regime conditions of micro-arc oxidation were determined. The relative contents of α-Al 2 O 3 increased with "soft" plasma discharge time. The soft plasma discharge brought about a tendency of the micro-arc oxide coating to grow outward, further repairing the coating defects and yielding a denser coating layer with improved corrosion protection. Due to the presence of negative currents, the thickness of the whole layer increased, while the inner layer became denser and thicker as a consequence of soft sparks, favoring an increase in the density of the bulk coating layer. The breakdown voltage reached values above 1000 V after 20 min of soft plasma discharge, improving the of micro-arc oxidation coating insulation properties. The oxide layer is thus proposed as a potential candidate for insulation shielding of etching equipment.

Abstract:Titanium alloy produced by selective laser melting (SLM) requires surface treatment to improve its bioactivity. In this study, Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) was applied on TC4 alloy produced by SLM with a homogeneous coating of microporous TiO2 and significant amounts of Ca and P. The microstructure, thickness, roughness, and composition of the MAO coating with different oxidation times were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The adhesion strength of the MAO coating was obtained by scratch testing. The corrosion behavior of the MAO coatings was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The bioactivity of the coatings was carried out by immersion test in simulated body fluid (SBF). The results showed that the thickness of the MAO coatings, roughness and pore size gradually increase as a function of the oxidation time, which at the same time increases the rutile phase constituent. The coating prepared by 15 min exhibited the best adhesive strength, which mainly consists of TiO2, CaO, CaHPO4 and Ca3(PO4)2. The corrosion resistance and bioactivity of MAO coatings could be improved by changing the oxidation time, and MAO coating formed at 15 min has the best corrosion resistance and bioactivity. The whole MAO process on SLM-produced TC4 alloy can be divided into four stages through “anodic oxidation → film puncturing → micro-arc oxidation → arc light stage” according to voltage change and microstructure evolution. In addition, a large amount of grain boundary interfacial area in SLM-produced TC4 alloy may participate in the MAO reaction to form a large number of discharge channels and share the total energy to decline energy density.

Abstract:The 6061 aluminum alloy was disposed using bipolar pulse micro-arc oxidation power supply in Na 2SiO 3 -CH 3 COONa-Na 5 P 3 O 10 electrolyte system, where the surface spark discharge of aluminumalloy during micro-arc oxidation was observed by long distance working microscope, and themicro-structure of molten pool in micro-arc oxidation film were studied by 3D video microscope, SEM,XRD, combined with film/substrate separation technology and layer by layer thinning technique. Also,the mechanism of micro-arc oxidation breakdown and discharge of aluminum alloy was investigatedthoroughly.
