Abstract:Superficial angiomyxoma (SAM) is a rare, benign, and slow-growing soft tissue tumor with a tendency for frequent local recurrence. Most SAMs are solitary and sporadic. However, multiple SAMs, particularly on the external ear or eyelids, may be the initial or only sign of the Carney complex, an autosomal dominant syndrome that impacts various organs, including the heart, breasts, and skin, and is linked to endocrine hyperactivity. To ensure an accurate diagnosis, a comprehensive patient interview, physical examination, and laboratory tests, including endocrine-specific markers and imaging studies, are essential. Due to the high risk of recurrence, especially in large, encapsulated lesions, complete surgical excision is the preferred treatment approach. We present a case of a 24-year-old female with SAM on the shoulder, review the relevant literature, and discuss the pathogenesis and appropriate management of such cases.

Abstract:A 24-year-old black female patient sought dental care for a persistent ulcerated lesion in the floor of her mouth, characterized by a reddish border and a necrotic center, persisting for four months and measuring approximately 2 cm in its largest diameter. The patient's medical history included a primary angiosarcoma in the foot, with metastases to the pleura, brain, bones, and pancreas. An incisional biopsy was conducted, revealing histological sections indicating a proliferation of neoplastic cells featuring cellular and nuclear pleomorphism, hyperchromatism, an increased nucleus-to-cytoplasm ratio, and aberrant mitoses.

Abstract:A 27-year-old male presented with a chief complaint of a persistently painless swelling situated in the region corresponding to the mucosa supporting teeth 33-37. Radiologic scans depicted a multilocular lesion impacting the roots of the mentioned teeth, extending to the mandible body and base, thereby inducing expansion. A review of the patient's past medical history revealed that an incisional biopsy had been conducted at the same site in 2011, revealing swelling. The microscopic diagnosis at that time was an odontogenic keratocyst.

Abstract:Angioleiomyosarcomas are considered an exceptionally rare neoplasm in pediatric patients, displaying an unusual oral manifestation. We present a case of angioleiomyosarcoma in a 9-year-old boy. Upon oral examination, a pedunculated nodal mass was observed, presenting erythematous discoloration, firm consistency, and occupying the floor of the mouth. The patient reported localized pain and fever in the five days leading up to the initial clinical visit, with a lesion progression spanning six months.

Abstract:A fifty-six-year-old female presented to the service in June 2021, complaining of the appearance of a large, dark mass that had been present for about 5 months. She also reported experiencing pain and weight loss. She has been a smoker since the age of 15 and is also an alcoholic. Upon clinical examination, an exophytic, lobulated, pigmented, and expansive nodule was observed. This nodule bled when touched and had a firm consistency. It affected the right hard and soft palate, crossed the midline, and extended to the upper attached gingiva on the same side.

Abstract:Cellular neurothekeoma (CN) is a benign dermal neoplasm that most often affects the head and neck region and rarely occurs in the oral mucosa. We report a rare case of CN with atypical features on the floor of the mouth and summarize the reported cases of oral CN in English‐language literature. A 62‐year‐old woman presented with a 6‐month history of a painless mass on the floor of the mouth. Histopathological analysis of the excised specimen revealed a proliferation of neoplastic cells with oval to spindle morphology arranged in a vaguely nested and multinodular architecture separated by scarce hyaline collagen within a predominantly myxoid‐rich stroma. The tumor cells were positive for NSE, and CD63 (NKI/C3), and negative for S100 protein, CD34, and SMA. Thus, the final diagnosis was CN. In addition, we summarized all clinicopathological data on oral CNs reported in the English‐language literature. Nineteen cases were reviewed. Among them, only one case affected the floor of the mouth of a young girl, in contrast to the present case that occurred in an elderly woman. CN is particularly rare in this location and may be a diagnostic challenge for oral pathologists due to its rarity and morphological similarity with other lesions.

Abstract:BackgroundAngiokeratoma is a rare cutaneous presentation with unknown etiology.Case presentationA case of a 10-year male, who was presented to the ENT OPD with a swelling over the posterior aspect of the tongue. The chief complaints included growth on the right side of the posterior third of the tongue which was extending up to the base of the tongue on the same side.ConclusionExcisional biopsy was taken and sent for histopathology which was suggestive of inflamed angiokeratoma. Post-excision there is no recurrence till date.

Abstract:Rationale: Primary splenic angiosarcoma (PSA) is a rare, fatal neoplasm originating from sinusoidal vascular endothelial cells, and usually metastasizes and almost always has a poor prognosis. Surgical excision is the main treatment of this highly malignant disease. Patient concerns: We reported a special case of a 68-year-old female who had a 6-month history of scalp masses. Diagnosis: The patient was found to have 2 skull masses on computed tomography (CT). Laboratory findings revealed erythropenia and thrombocytopenia. Enhanced abdomen magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed multiple masses in liver and spleen. The pathological result of the skull masses was revealed to be metastatic angiosarcoma. Interventions: The patient underwent surgical excision of skull masses, and no subsequent radiotherapy or chemotherapy was done. Outcomes: The patient died due to dyscrasia at August 12, 2015, with a survival of nearly 1 month. Lessons: We highlight the importance for clinicians to be aware of this rare neoplasm, and to consider it in the differential diagnosis when encountering a skull mass. Early confirmation and treatment may improve the prognosis.

Abstract:A 21-year-old female, with a history of past smoking, presented with a complaint of mouth ulcers that had been progressively worsening over the past 6 months. Clinically, she exhibited an 8 cm reddish mass in the right mandible. The mass appeared hardened, smooth, and displayed a granulomatous appearance, along with a diastema between premolars. Although tooth mobility was observed, there was no reported paresthesia or pain. Computed tomography revealed an osteolytic lesion with irregular margins, encompassing the entire alveolar bone, extending down to the mandibular base.

Abstract:We report an exceptionally rare case of multifocal angiosarcoma in a 21-year-old male patient who presented with a complaint of purple nodules in the gingiva and palate for one-month duration. The medical history included rapid weight loss, tiredness, back pain, dyspnea, and profuse nosebleeds. Laboratory tests showed increased levels of liver enzymes, GGT, alkaline phosphatase, and CRP. Serology for HIV and syphilis was negative. Computed tomography of the chest and face revealed soft tissue nodules in the lungs, maxillary/frontal and sphenoid sinuses, ethmoid cells, and perihilar and mediastinal lymph node enlargement.

Abstract:A 63-year-old white female presented with a complaint of a rapidly growing nodular lesion on the ventral surface of her tongue and the floor of her mouth for the past three months. On intraoral examination, a painless nodular lesion with a sessile base, hardened consistency, precise borders, and partially ulcerated surface was observed. The lesion was approximately 2.5x1.5 cm in size. The patient had a history of pernicious anemia and depression and denied smoking or alcohol consumption. The incisional biopsy showed a myxoid spindle cell neoplasm with a low mitotic index.

Abstract:Background: Angiosarcoma occurs very rarely in the oral cavity, and the epithelioid type is even rarer. Here, we report a rare case involving an elderly man with a primary epithelioid angiosarcoma that originated from the mandibular gingiva and resembled a dentigerous cyst on radiographs. Case presentation: A 66-year-old Japanese man visited our hospital with a chief complaint of gingival swelling in right mandibular third molar region. A panoramic radiograph showed bone resorption around the crown of right mandibular third molar, which was impacted. Incisional biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of epithelioid angiosarcoma. The lesion exhibited aggressive proliferation after biopsy resulting in uncontrolled bleeding and difficulty in closing the mouth. Mandibular segmental resection including the tumor was performed without reconstruction. Because of the aggressive preoperative course of the tumor, the patient received adjuvant chemotherapy. There were no signs of recurrence during a 2-year follow-up period. Conclusions: A review of the literature yielded only four reported cases of epithelioid angiosarcoma in the jaw region, with the lesions occurring in the maxilla in three cases. To our knowledge, this is the second case of primary epithelioid angiosarcoma in the mandible.

Abstract:Leiomyomas are typically benign growths commonly found in the uterine region but are rare occurrences in the oral cavity. When these tumors exhibit a vascular arrangement, they are classified as Angiomyomas. Microscopically, angiomyomas are described as well-defined nodules with vascular spaces of varying diameters and wall thicknesses. A 56-year-old female with systemic arterial hypertension and type II diabetes mellitus sought dental assistance due to the presence of three sessile, asymptomatic nodules on her right buccal mucosa and lower lip, with an unknown duration of existence.

Abstract:Ear, Nose &Throat Journal, Ahead of Print. Keratoacanthoma (KA) is a self-regressing cutaneous tumor sharing clinical and histopathological similarities with squamous cell carcinoma. It is relatively uncommon and presents diagnostic challenges, particularly in pediatric patients. This paper presents a case study of KA affecting the upper lip keratosis in a 6-year-old girl. Through a comprehensive analysis of the pathogenesis, differential diagnosis, and treatment approaches of KA in children based on existing literature, we aim to offer clinical insights and guidance for practice.

Abstract:A 65-year-old male patient with dark skin visited the Oral Diagnosis Clinic, complaining of a maxillary lesion that had persisted for 13 years. The intraoral examination revealed a slight 3-cm vestibular swelling on the right maxilla, covered by normal oral mucosa. Cone-beam tomography unveiled a multilocular radiolucent lesion affecting the maxilla bilaterally. An incisional biopsy was performed with the initial suspicion of odontogenic myxoma, and the histological examination revealed vascular spaces of varying diameters associated with hemorrhagic areas in dense connective tissue, leading to the diagnosis of intraosseous hemangioma.

Abstract:Background To investigate the incidence and demographic profile of hamartomatous, choristomatous, and teratoid lesions in a Brazilian population over a 49 years-period. Methods A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed, and data regarding demographic and clinical aspects were obtained from the medical records of a [removed for blind peer review] referral center (1970-2019). The collected data were submitted to descriptive analysis and Pearson's chi-square, Fisher's exact, and Kruskal–Wallis tests ( p ≤ 0.05). Results In a total of 16,412 medical records analyzed, 300 (1.83%) were hamartomatous, 2 (0.01%) choristomatous, and 1 (0.01%) teratoid lesions. Hamartomas were most diagnosed in females and adults. Statistical significance was observed between hamartoma and age group ( p < 0.001). Odontoma was the most frequent hamartomatous lesion. In choristomatous and teratoid lesions, there was no occurrence in males. The jaws were the most affected anatomical site by hamartoma. Choristomas were observed on the mandible and tongue, while a teratoid lesion was seen on the floor of the mouth. Conclusions Low occurrence of choristomatous and teratoid lesions over hamartomatous lesions and a heterogeneous occurrence profile regarding sex, age group, and anatomic site were observed. Hamartomas are relatively common and benign conditions that may cause damage and require special care during dental treatment. Thus, the dentist needs to be able to identify and treat them appropriately. Likewise, although choristomas and teratomas present no risk to patients and have a lower occurrence than hamartomas, they also require treatment.

Abstract:Oral malignant melanoma (OMM) represents an extremely rare neoplasm. Unlike cutaneous melanomas, the risk factors and pathogenesis of OMM are poorly understood. Here, we report a case of OMM occurring in a 69-year-old female patient. Ten years ago, the patient was referred for evaluation of an extensive, asymptomatic pigmented lesion on the left side of the hard palate, beneath a total prosthesis. An incisional biopsy was performed, and histopathological analysis revealed a variable proliferation of fusiform and pigmented epithelioid cells, exhibiting cellular pleomorphism and a high mitotic index.
