Abstract:Background: With the appearance and aggravation of the aging society, cancer has become one of the major problems that threaten the life and health of Chinese residents seriously. Objective: To explore the cancer epidemiological characteristics among the elderly in China from 2005 to 2016, and to provide strategies for cancer prevention and treatment. Methods: Stratified analysis was conducted on the cancer mortality data of the elderly aged ≥60 years in China, which were selected from the Chinese Cancer Registry Annual Report. Joinpoint regression model was used to calculted average annual percentage change (AAPC) to estimate the time trends. Age-period-cohort (APC) model was used to explore the age, period and birth cohort effect on the risk of cancer death. Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) model was used to predict trends in cancer mortality among elderly by gender and region to 2035. Results: 2005-2016, cancer mortality in the elderly in China showed a decreasing trend (AAPC = -1.2%, P<0.001). Cancer mortality in rural areas was higher than that in urban areas, but the urban-rural difference gradually narrowed (t = 6.1, P<0.01). The APC model showed that cancer mortality increased with age. The relative risk (RR) for the period effect decreased. RR was lower for the later- born cohort than that for the earlier-born cohort in rural areas. Lung cancer mortality ranked first in both male and female, and showed an increasing trend among female in the 60-64, 80-84 and ≥85 age groups (AAPC60-64 = 1.0%, AAPC80-84 = 0.8%, AAPC≥85 = 2.0%, all P<0.05). By 2035, cancer mortality for the elderly was predicted to decline nationally, by sex and in rural areas, while rising in urban areas. Conclusion: Cancer mortality in the elderly in China showed a decreasing trend from 2005 to 2016, but it was still higher than the world average. Early cancer screening is important, especially in the elderly male and in rural areas.

Abstract:Abstract Background In ageing societies such as the United States, evaluating the incidence and survival rates of cancer in older adults is essential. This study aimed to analyse the incidence and survival rates of cancer in individuals aged 55 years or older in the United States. Methods This retrospective study (1975–2019) was conducted using combined registry data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Data from the 9, 12, and 17 Registries (Nov 2021 Sub) datasets were used. Results In 2019, the incidence of cancer in individuals older than 55 years and the overall population was 1322.8 and 382.1 per 100,000 population, respectively. From 2000 to 2019, the incidence of cancer in individuals older than 55 years showed a decreasing trend, whereas their five-year survival rates showed an increasing trend. The incidence of cancer in the 75–79 and 80–84 year age groups was the highest among all age groups. Conclusions The incidence of colon cancer declined significantly, whereas that of intrahepatic bile duct cancer increased considerably. These trends may be due to increased screening for cancers with high incidence rates and improved control of the risk factors for cancer. Rapid development of targeted therapy and immunotherapy combined with early tumour detection may be an important reason for the improved survival rates.

Increasing Disparities in Age-Related Cause Specific Survival (CSS) among US Patients with Colorectal Cancer: SEER Analysis

Abstract:Background: Survival for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) has improved over the the past decades. However, it is unclear whether older patients have benefited to the same extent as younger patients. Methods: The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) 9 registries database was queried for patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer from 1975 to 2009. 5-year CSS was extracted via SEER*Stat software. Patients were categorized by age as being ≤54, 55-64, 65-74, 75-84, and ≥85 years. We presented yearly data for survival with overlying loess smoothing lines across all age groups. Another cohort was created using the SEER 18 registries database for patients diagnosed with CRC from 1973 to 2014. Survival analyses for the periods of 1973-1979, 1980-1989, 1990-1999, and 2000-2012 were conducted. Yearly data for surgery-performed rate and stage proportion were performed with overlying loess smoothing lines across all age groups. Results: In the analysis of the SEER 9 registries database, 5-year CSS of patients aged ≤54, 55-64 and 65-74 years showed robust increase since 1975; however, survival of patients aged 75-84 years remained low despite of modest improvement, and patients aged 85 or older even showed no survival gains since 1990. Same trend exists after stratifying the disease as localized, regional and distant. In the analysis of the SEER 18 registries database, there has been a steady increase in the survival of patients aged ≤54, 55-64, 65-74 and 75-84 years as time period advanced; however, of CRC patients aged 85 years and older, the survival curves of period 1990-1999 and 2000-2012 couldn’t be distinguished from each other and presented with a negligibly small gap from the survival curve of 1980-1989. Conclusions: The strong interaction between age and year of diagnosis implies that older patients have benefited less over time than younger patients, especially for patients aged ≥85 years. Further studies are needed to determine the cause for these trends and identify potential strategies. Abstract:Background: The morbidity and mortality of pancreatic cancer vary considerably around the world. The aim of this study was to characterize and evaluate recent changes in incidence and incidence-based mortality in the USA. Methods: Incidence and incidence-based mortality data were based on the 18 Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registries through SEER*Stat software. We adopted joinpoint regression to analyze the temporal trends stratified by age, gender, ethnicity, stage, tumor site, and size. Results: Based on 18 SEER data sets, the age-adjusted incidence of pancreatic cancer increased from 11.85/100,000 in 2000 to 14.70/100,000 in 2014, increasing by an average annual percentage change (AAPC) of 1.6 (95% CI 1.5-1.8, p<0.05). The incidence-based mortality also increased, from 9.96/100,000 in 2001 to 12.96/100,000 in 2014, increasing by an AAPC of 1.9 (95% CI 1.3-2.5, p<0.05). However, we observed a deceleration in mortality since 2005, with the annual percentage change decreasing from 4.1 (2001-2005) to 1.0 (2005-2014). These increasing trends in pancreatic cancer were observed in most subgroups (stratified by age, gender, ethnicity, stage, tumor site, and size). Conclusion: The incidence and mortality rates of pancreatic cancer in the USA have increased signi.cantly since 2000, highlighting the need for increased preventive, screening, and surveillance efforts.
Trends of cancer incidence among Chinese older adults from 2005 to 2016: A log-linear regression and age-period-cohort analysis

Abstract:Background To study the corresponding strategies for controlling cancer in older adults aged 60 and above in China, a comprehensive assessment of disease burden is required. Therefore, we will introduce the cancer epidemiological characteristics of older adults in China over a recent 12 year period. Methods The age-period-cohort model was constructed using the cancer incidence data from the Chinese Cancer Registry Annual Report published in 2008–2019. The annual change percentage (APC) was estimated by log-linear regression to reflect the time trend. The data from the GLOBOCAN 2020 database was selected for worldwide comparative analysis. Results The cancer incidence in older adults aged 60 and above in China showed a decreasing trend (APC = −0.73%, P = 0.009). The urban/rural ratio of cancer incidence increased from 0.94 to 1.07 (t = 3.52, P < 0.05), while the sex ratio (male/female) showed a significant decreasing trend only in rural areas (t = −6.77, P < 0.05), and the ratio decreased from 2.02 to 1.72. The results of the age-period-cohort model showed that the cancer incidence increased with age in both males and females, urban and rural areas. The RR of period effect increased from 2005 to 2010, then decreased from 2010 to 2015, and the downward trend was more obvious. The RR of the later-born cohort was lower than that of the earlier-born cohort in rural areas. Lung, gastric, colorectal, esophageal, liver, and breast cancers were common cancers in Chinese older adults. Lung cancer incidence ranked first in males, and it decreased with time in the 75–79 and 80–84 age groups (APC 75 − 79 = −1.10%, APC 80 − 84 = −0.88%, all P < 0.05). Breast cancer incidence ranked first among female in the 60–64 age group and showed an increasing trend (APC 60 − 64 = 1.52%, P < 0.05). Conclusions The cancer incidence in Chinese older adults aged 60 and above showed a decreasing trend, but it was still at a relatively high level. The key targets of prevention and treatment should be males, urban areas, younger people, older adults aged 60–69, lung, gastrointestinal, and breast cancers in the future.

Abstract:Purpose: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. However, the data on breast cancer incidence and survival over a long period, especially the dynamic changes in the role of race and socioeconomic status (SES), are scant. Materials and methods: To evaluate treatment outcomes of patients with breast cancer over the past 3 decades, the data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registries were used to assess the survival of patients with breast cancer. Period analysis was used to analyze the incidence and survival trend; survival was evaluated by the relative survival rates (RSRs) and Kaplan-Meier analyses. The HRs for age, race, stage, and SES were assessed by Cox regression. Results: A total of 433,366 patients diagnosed with breast cancer between 1981 and 2010 were identified from the original nine SEER registries. The incidences of breast cancer in each decade were 107.1 per 100,000, 117.5 per 100,000, and 109.8 per 100,000. The 10-year RSRs improved each decade, from 70.8% to 81.5% to 85.6% (P<0.0001). The lower survival in black race and high-poverty group is confirmed by Kaplan-Meier analyses and RSRs. Furthermore, Cox regression analyses demonstrated that age, race, SES, and stage are independent risk factors for patients with breast cancer in each decade. Conclusion: The current data demonstrated a fluctuating incidence trend with improving survival rates of patients with breast cancer over the past 3 decades. In addition, the survival disparity exists among different races, ages, SESs, and stages.
Fatal, non-fatal burden of cancer in the elderly in China, 2005–2016: a nationwide registry-based study

Abstract:Abstract Background As populations age, cancer burden becomes increasingly conspicuous. This study quantified the cancer burden of the elderly (≥ 60 years) in China, based on the China Cancer Registry Annual Report to provide epidemiological evidence for cancer prevention and control. Methods Data on cancer cases and deaths among the elderly aged ≥ 60 years were collected from the China Cancer Registry Annual Report, 2008–2019. Potential years of life lost (PYLL) and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) were calculated to analyze fatalities and the non-fatal burden. The time trend was analyzed using the Joinpoint model. Results From 2005 to 2016, the PYLL rate of cancer in the elderly was stable between 45.34‰ and 47.62‰, but the DALY rate for cancer decreased at an average annual rate of 1.18% (95% CI: 0.84–1.52%). The non-fatal cancer burden in the rural elderly was higher than that of the urban elderly. Lung, gastric, liver, esophageal, and colorectal cancers were the main cancers causing the cancer burden in the elderly, and accounted for 74.3% of DALYs. The DALY rate of lung cancer in females in the 60–64 age group increased (annual percentage change [APC] = 1.14%, 95% CI: 0.10–1.82%). Female breast cancer was one of the top five cancers in the 60–64 age group, with DALY rates that also increased (APC = 2.17%, 95% CI: 1.35–3.01%). With increasing age, the burden of liver cancer decreased, while that of colorectal cancer rose. Conclusions From 2005 to 2016, the cancer burden in the elderly in China decreased, mainly reflected in the non-fatal burden. Female breast and liver cancer were a more serious burden in the younger elderly, while colorectal cancer burden was mainly observed in the older elderly.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: The long-term trend in cancer death in a rapidly developing country provides information for cancer prophylaxis. Here, we aimed to identify the trends in cancer mortality in China during the 2004-2018 period.METHODS: Using raw data from the national mortality surveillance system of China, we assessed the mortalities of all cancer and site-specific cancers during the 2004-2018 period. The participants were divided into three age groups: ≥65 years, 40-64 years, and ≤39 years. Changing trends in cancer death by gender, residency, and tumor location were estimated using fitting joinpoint models to log-transformed crude mortality rates (CMRs) and age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs).RESULTS: Cancer death accounted for 24% of all-cause of death in China during 2014-2018. The CMR of all cancer was 150.0 per 100,000 persons. Cancer was the leading cause of death in the population <65 years. The six major cancer types (lung/bronchus cancer, liver cancer, stomach cancer, esophagus cancer, colorectal cancer, and pancreas cancer) accounted for 75.85% of all cancer deaths. The CMR of all cancer increased while the ASMR decreased during 2014-2018 (P < 0.001). Lung/bronchus cancer and liver cancer were the leading causes of cancer death in the population <65 years, accounting for 45.31% (CMR) and 44.35% (ASMR) of all cancer death, respectively. The ASMR of liver cancer was higher in the 40-64 years population than in the ≥65 years population, in contrast to the other five major cancers. The ASMRs of liver cancer, stomach cancer, and esophagus cancer decreased although they were higher in rural residents than in urban residents; the ASMRs of lung/bronchus cancer, colorectal cancer, and pancreas cancer increased in rural residents although they were higher in urban residents than in rural residents during 2014-2018.CONCLUSION: Although the ASMR of all cancer decreased in China during 2004-2018, lung/bronchus cancer and liver cancer remained the leading causes of cancer-related premature death. Lung/bronchus cancer, colorectal cancer, and pancreas cancer increased in rural residents.

[Regional eco-security assessment of southwest Beijing].

Abstract:Based on the zoning regulation which integrated climate, vegetation and soil as a complex, a regional eco-security index system consisting of regional physical background, ecosystem stability, landscape structure, and external interference was established, and, with the support of geographical information system technology and fuzzy mathematics, a set of regional eco-security assessment methods was constructed. By means of these methods, the eco-security index of southwest Beijing in 2004 was calculated based on the recent 30 years background data of climate and soil. The results showed that in southwest Beijing, the eco-security degree was higher in its central area and western hilly-shallow hilly areas, but lower in its southern and southeastern plain areas. The mining activity in southwest Beijing had threatened the environment, and should be stopped immediately to maintain the regional eco-security. It was proved in the case study that the assessment index system and related methods established in this paper could solve the existing problems in assessing regional eco-security, and the assessment results could reflect the regional ecological issues and the status of eco-security at different locations within the region.

Abstract:Abstract Purpose: To quantitatively evaluate contributions of trends in incidence, relative survival, and stage at diagnosis to the dynamics in the prevalence of major cancers (lung, prostate, colon, breast, urinary bladder, ovaries, stomach, pancreas, esophagus, kidney, liver, and skin melanoma) among older U.S. adults age 65+. Methods: Trend partitioning was applied to the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program data for 1973-2016. Results: Growth of cancer prevalence in older adults decelerated or even decreased over time for all studied cancers due to decreasing incidence and improving survival for most of cancers, with a smaller contribution of the stage at cancer diagnosis. Changes in prevalence of cancers of lung, colon, stomach, and breast were predominantly due to decreasing incidence, increasing survival and more frequent diagnoses at earlier stages. Changes in prevalence of some other cancers demonstrated adverse trends such as decreasing survival in localized and regional stages (urinary bladder and ovarian) and growing impact of late-stage diagnoses (esophageal cancer). Conclusion: While decelerating or decreasing prevalence of many cancers were due to a beneficial combination of decreasing incidence and increasing survival, there are cancers for which decelerating prevalence is due to the lack of improvement in their stage-specific survival and/or increasing frequency of diagnosis at advanced stages. Overall, if the observed trends persist, it is likely that cancer burden due to its prevalence in older U.S. population will be lower than it was projected in earlier studies.
Changing Patterns in Cancer Mortality from 1987 to 2020 in China

Abstract:Background: China has the highest number of new cancer cases and deaths worldwide, posing huge health and economic burdens to society and affected families. This study comprehensively analyzed secular trends of national cancer mortality statistics to inform future prevention and intervention programs in China. Methods: The annual estimate of overall cancer mortality and its major subtypes were derived from the National Health Commission (NHC). Joinpoint analysis was used to detect changes in trends, and we used age-period-cohort modeling to estimate cohort and period effects in Cancers between 1987 and 2020. Net drift (overall annual percentage change), local drift (annual percentage change in each age group), longitudinal age curves (expected longitudinal age-specific rate), and period (cohort) relative risks were calculated. Results: The age-standardized cancer mortality in urban China has shown a steady downward trend but has not decreased significantly in rural areas. Almost all cancer deaths in urban areas have shown a downward trend, except for colorectal cancer in men. Decreasing mortality from cancers in rural of the stomach, esophagus, liver, leukemia, and nasopharynx was observed, while lung, colorectal cancer female breast, and cervical cancer mortality increased. Birth cohort risks peaked in the cohorts born around 1920–1930 and tended to decline in successive cohorts for most cancers except for leukemia, lung cancer in rural, and breast and cervical cancer in females, whose relative risks were rising in the very recent cohorts. In addition, mortality rates for almost all types of cancer in older Chinese show an upward trend. Conclusions: Although the age-standardized overall cancer mortality rate has declined, and the urban-rural gap narrowed, the absolute cancer cases kept increasing due to the growing elderly population in China. The rising mortality related to lung, colorectal, female breast, and cervical cancer should receive higher priority in managing cancer burden and calls for targeted public health actions to reverse the trend.
Cancer statistics in Chinese older people, 2022: current burden, time trends, and comparisons with the US, Japan, and the Republic of Korea

Abstract:Largely due to population ageing, the cancer burden from older people has been rising, which imposed considerable pressure on current Chinese healthcare system. We provide comprehensive information about cancer burden of Chinese older people based on the most recent data from National Central Cancer Registry of China. The logarithmic linear regression was used to project the current cancer burden in 2022, and Joinpoint regression was used for temporal trend analysis from 2000 to 2017. We also estimated cancer statistics of older people in the US, Japan and the Republic of Korea for comparisons. It is estimated that 2.79 million cases and 1.94 million deaths occur for Chinese older people, representing 55.8% and 68.2% of cases and deaths in all population in 2022. The overall cancer incidence rate gradually increased among older women, while the mortality rates declined for both sexes. Notably, approximately 10.0% of all cases and 17.7% of all deaths are from people aged over 80 years, and cancer incidence and mortality in this age group showed upward trends for women. Lung cancer and digestive cancers are the leading cancer types for Chinese older people. Compared with other countries, China has lower incidence rates but higher mortality rates for older people. The rapidly growing burden of prostate cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and declines in esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, and liver cancer among older people indicate the cancer pattern in China is being in a transition stage to that in developed countries. Our findings imply that it should be the national health priority to meet the growing demands for cancer diagnosis, treatment and care services from the older people as the rapid population ageing in next few decades.

Abstract:Background: A previous study has examined the overall cancer statistics. However, more detailed statistics regarding liver cancer have not been provided. We evaluated the incidence and mortality trends of liver and intrahepatic bile duct cancer in the United States from 1975 to 2017 based on the data in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.Methods: Age, gender, race, metastasis, tumor site, and tumor grade of patients were extracted from the SEER database. Codes C22.0 and C22.1 of the International Classification of Disease for Oncology were applied to identify patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and/or intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Age-specified incidence, age-standardized incidence and mortality, 5-year relative survival, race-specific accumulative incidence and mortality, and geographic-specific accumulative mortality were calculated in different groups. Changes in trends of liver cancer incidence and mortality were assessed using Joinpoint regression.Results: The overall incidence increased significantly from 2.641/100,000 person-years in 1975 to 8.657/100,000 person-years in 2017 [average annual percent change (AAPC) =3.42, 95% confidence interval (CI): 3.28-3.62, P<0.001]. The steepest incidence rate increase was observed in the 60-69-year-old age group (AAPC =4.40, 95% CI: 4.10-4.70, P<0.001). Males exhibited a more rapid increase in cancer incidence, from 3.928/100,000 to 13.128/100,000 person-years (AAPC =3.41, 95% CI: 3.21-3.61, P<0.001), than females [from 1.642/100,000 to 4.783/100,000 person-years (AAPC =3.03, 95% CI: 2.91-3.21, P=0.001)]. The overall mortality rate increased from 2.808/100,000 person-years in 1975 to 6.648/100,000 person-years in 2017 (AAPC =2.41, 95% CI: 2.29-2.51, P<0.001). The highest mortality rate was observed in Hawaii (6.996/100,000 person-years).Conclusions: The incidence and mortality rates of HCC and ICC increased from 1975 to 2017, especially in males, non-Hispanic Blacks and older individuals. Comprehensive policy and control measures should be implemented to reduce the burden of disease, particularly through health monitoring and intervention for high-risk groups.

Abstract:Objective: The burden of obesity-related cancer has rarely been investigated. This study aims to investigate the trends of incidence of obesity-related cancer in a Chinese population. Method: During 2007-2021, a population-based registry of cancer covering 14.14 million people was performed in 207 medical sites by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission Information Center. We compared the trends of incidence of obesity-related cancers and non-obesity-related cancer. Results: Overall, there were 651,482 incident cancer patients in this population from 2007 to 2021. Of these patients, 48.49% were obesity-related cancers. For all obesity-related cancers combined, the age-standardized incidence rates (ASR) showed a significant upward trend (3.6% per year, P< 0.001). Conversely, for non-obesity-related cancers, the ASR was stable during this period (Fig.1 Age-specific differences of all cancers: A,B: annual changes; C,D: incidence rate ratio; E,F: incidence). We predict that the ASR for obesity-related cancers will increase 2.62-fold in 2035 compared to 2021, and will increase mainly in people younger than 50 and decrease in those over 75 years. Conclusion: Obesity-related cancer incidence significantly increased from 2007 to 2021. While most cases were diagnosed in old people, the obesity-related incidence increased sharply in young adults. Abstract:OBJECTIVE: We examine international incidence trends of lung, colorectal, prostate, and breast cancers, as well as all cancers combined excluding non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) in adults aged 50 and older, over a fifteen-year period using data from 113 high quality population-based cancer registries included in the Cancer in Five Continents (CI5) series and NORDCAN.MATERIALS AND METHODS: We calculated annual incidence rates between 1998 and 2012 for ages 50-64, 65-74, and 75+, by sex and both sexes combined. We estimated average annual percentage change (AAPC) in rates using quasi-Poisson regression models.RESULTS: From 1998 to 2012, incidence trends for all cancers (excluding NMSC) have increased in most countries across all age groups, with the greatest increase observed in adults aged 75+ in Ecuador (AAPC = +3%). Colorectal cancer incidence rates increased in the majority of countries, across all age groups. Lung cancer rates among females have increased but decreased for males. Prostate cancer rates have sharply increased in men aged 50-64 with AAPC between 5% and 15% in 24 countries, while decreasing in the 75+ age group in 21 countries, by up to -7% in Bahrain. Female breast cancer rates have increased across all age groups in most countries, especially in the 65-74 age group and in Asia with AAPC increasing to 7% in the Republic of Korea.CONCLUSIONS: These findings assist with anticipating changing patterns and needs internationally. Due to the specific needs of older patients, it is urgent that cancer systems adapt to address their growing number.

Abstract:The long-term incidence trends of 32 cancers in China remained unclear. Cancer statistics for young population were often presented in aggregate, masking important heterogeneity. We aimed to assess the incidence trends of 32 cancers in China from 1983 to 2032, stratified by sex and age groups. Data on cancer incidence from 1983 to 2017 were extracted from Cancer Incidence in Five Continents Volumes VI-XII. The age-period-cohort model was utilized to assess age and birth cohort effects on the temporal trends of 32 cancers in China, while the Bayesian age-period-cohort model was utilized to project future trends from 2018 to 2032. An increase in cohort effects is observed in some cancers such as thyroid and kidney cancers. Eight of the 12 obesity-related cancers may rise in the 0-14 age group, and nine in the 15-39 age group from 2013 to 2032. Liver and stomach cancers show an increasing trend among the younger population, contrasting with the observed declining trend in the middle-aged population. There has been a significant rise in the proportions of cervical cancer among females aged 40-64 (4.3%-19.1%), and prostate cancer among males aged 65+ (1.1%-11.8%) from 1983 to 2032. Cancer spectrum in China is shifting toward that in developed countries. Incidence rates of most cancers across different age groups may increase in recent cohorts. It is essential to insist effective preventive interventions, and promote healthier lifestyles, such as reducing obesity, especially among younger population.

We aimed to quantitatively estimate the secular trend of cancer mortality and incidence in China. Methods: We extracted numbers, age-specific and age-standardized rates of 29 cancer groups (from 1990 to 2017) from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study in 2017. We estimated rates of major cancer types for annual percent change by Joinpoint regression, and for age, period, and cohort effect by an age–period–cohort model. Results: In 2017, breast cancer had the highest incidence rate in females. Lung cancer had the highest mortality and incidence rates in males. Although the age-standardized incidence rate of prostate cancer ranked second highest in males, it increased by 112% from 1990 to 2017. Individuals aged over 50 years were at high risk of developing cancer, and the number of deaths at this age accounted for over 89% of all cancers in all age groups. When compared with the global average level, the age-standardized mortality and incidence rates of both liver and esophageal cancers were 2.1 times higher in China, and stomach, lung and nasopharyngeal cancers in China also had high levels (more than 1.5 times higher). During 1990– 2017, most of the 29 cancers exhibited an increasing incidence trend, and Joinpoint regression demonstrated increasing mortality of some major cancers. The period effect indicated that the risk of mortality and incidence due to the main cancers generally increased during 1992– 2017. Conclusion: Trend analysis provided information on the effects of prevention strategies and targeted interventions on the occurrence of different cancers. Etiological studies need to be conducted on some major cancers in the Chinese population.
