Abstract:Introduction: Despite a growing armamentarium of medical therapies for ulcerative colitis, colectomy remains an important therapeutic option. To better inform shared decision-making about surgery, we estimated the contemporary risk of mortality after colectomy. Methods: Mortality rates were estimated using the National Inpatient Sample (2016-2020). Factors associated with postcolectomy death were evaluated in multivariable regression. Results: Postcolectomy mortality occurred in 1.2% (95% CI: 0.8%, 1.9%) of hospitalizations. Comorbidity burden, emergent laparotomy, and delays to surgery >5 days after admission were associated with mortality. Discussion: Colectomy may be associated with mortality; however, this risk is heterogeneous based on patient- and procedural-related factors.

Abstract:Background: Inflammatory bowel disease increases the risk of colorectal neoplasia. A particular problem arises in patients who have undergone subtotal colectomy leaving a rectal remnant. The risk of future rectal cancer must be accurately estimated and weighed against the risks of further surgery or surveillance. The aim of this study was to estimate the 10-year cumulative incidence of rectal cancer in such patients. Methods: A nationwide study using England's hospital administrative data was performed. A cohort of patients undergoing subtotal colectomy between April 2002 and March 2014 was identified. A competing risks survival analysis was performed to calculate the cumulative incidence of rectal cancer. The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on endoscopic surveillance was investigated using time-trend analysis. Results: A total of 8120 patients were included and 61 patients (0.8%) were diagnosed with cancer. The cumulative incidence of rectal cancer was 0.26% (95% c.i. 0.17% to 0.39%), 0.49% (95% c.i. 0.36% to 0.68%), and 0.77% (95% c.i. 0.57% to 1.02%) at 5, 10, and 15 years respectively. A previous diagnosis of colonic dysplasia (HR 3.34, 95% c.i. 1.01 to 10.97; P = 0.047), primary sclerosing cholangitis (HR 5.42, 95% c.i. 1.34 to 21.85; P = 0.018), and elective colectomy (HR 1.83, 95% c.i. 1.11 to 3.02; P = 0.018) was associated with an increased incidence of rectal cancer. Regarding endoscopic surveillance, there was a 43% decline in endoscopic procedures performed in 2020 (333 procedures) compared with 2019 (585 procedures). Conclusion: The incidence of rectal cancer after subtotal colectomy is low. Asymptomatic patients without evidence of rectal dysplasia should be carefully counselled on the possible benefits and risks of prophylactic proctectomy.

Abstract:Abstract Background Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterized by mucosal inflammation of the colon. A well-documented long-term complication of UC is an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC). The Middle Eastern population, with its unique genetic and environmental factors, presents a distinctive context for the investigation of CRC risk in UC patients. This meta-analysis aims to systematically evaluate and synthesize the available data on the incidence of CRC among UC patients in the Middle East Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted, identifying relevant studies from various databases and sources. A total of 12 studies met the inclusion criteria and were subjected to quantitative synthesis. The primary outcome measure was the incidence of CRC among UC patients in the Middle East. A random-effects model was used for data synthesis. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I^2 statistic. Results The meta-analysis included a total of 12 studies, comprising 13,881 UC patients in the Middle East. The overall estimated incidence of CRC in this population was 1.41% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.32% to 1.50%). Notably, there was substantial heterogeneity across the studies (I2 = 100%). Conclusion This meta-analysis provides insights into the incidence of CRC among UC patients in the Middle East. The findings underscore the significance of recognizing and addressing the elevated risk of CRC in UC patients, particularly in the context of unique genetic and environmental factors in the Middle East. Further research is needed to refine risk assessment and optimize preventive strategies in this specific population. Ultimately, this study serves as a vital resource for clinicians and researchers seeking to combat the burden of CRC in Middle Eastern UC patients.

In vitro study on the bioavailability of calcium and its absorption inhibitors in raw and cooked pulses commonly consumed in India.

Abstract:Pulses are commonly consumed among Indian people as sources of minerals. The objectives of this research were to assess the content of total and bioavailable calcium, inhibiting factors such as oxalate, phytate, tannin and dietary fiber and effect of cooking on bioavailable calcium in the commonly consumed pulses by Indians. The bioavailability of calcium was studied by an in vitro method using equilibrium dialysis after simulating gastric digestion. Horse gram and soya bean with the highest calcium content showed that the lowest calcium solubility and bioavailability percentage. The high inhibiting factors content in horse gram and soya bean favors calcium precipitation and thus decreases its bioavailability. The multiple regression analysis was carried out to explain the significant influence of inhibitors on calcium bioavailability. As per multiple regression analysis, the influence of oxalate, phytate, tannin and dietary fiber, revealed that negative correlation between bioavailable calcium.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Ileal pouch-anal anastomosis is considered the procedure of choice for restorative surgery after total colectomy for ulcerative colitis. Previous studies have examined the rate of ileal pouch-anal anastomosis within individual states, but not at the national level in the United States. OBJECTIVE: Assess the rate of ileal pouch-anal anastomosis after total colectomy for ulcerative colitis in a national population and identify factors associated with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis. DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study. SETTINGS: This study was performed in the United States. PATIENTS: Patients who were ≥18 years old who underwent total colectomy between 2009 and 2019 for a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis were identified within a commercial database. This database excluded patients with public insurance, including all patients >65 years old with Medicare. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary outcome was ileal pouch-anal anastomosis. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess the association between covariates and likelihood of undergoing ileal pouch-anal anastomosis. RESULTS: In total, 2,816 patients were included of whom 1414 (50.2%) underwent ileal pouch-anal anastomosis, 928 (33.0%) underwent no further surgery, and 474 (16.8%) underwent proctectomy with end ileostomy. Younger age, lower comorbidities, elective case, and laparoscopic approach in the initial colectomy were significantly associated with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis, but not socioeconomic status. LIMITATIONS: This retrospective study included only patients with commercial insurance. CONCLUSIONS: A total of 50.2% of patients undergo ileal pouch-anal anastomosis and younger age, lower co-morbidities, and elective cases are associated with a higher rate of ileal pouch-anal anastomosis placement. This emphasizes the importance of ensuring follow-up with colorectal surgeons to provide the option of restorative surgery, especially for patients undergoing urgent or emergent colectomies. Abstract:Background: Data on the epidemiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in the Middle East are scarce. We aimed to describe the clinical phenotype, disease course, and medication usage of IBD cases from Iran in the Middle East. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of registered IBD patients in the Iranian Registry of Crohn’s and Colitis (IRCC) from 2017 until 2022. We collected information on demographic characteristics, past medical history, family history, disease extent and location, extra-intestinal manifestations, IBD medications, and activity using the IBD-control-8 questionnaire and the Manitoba IBD index, admissions history, history of colon cancer, and IBD-related surgeries. Results: In total, 9746 patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) (n=7793), and Crohn’s disease (CD) (n=1953) were reported. The UC to CD ratio was 3.99. The median age at diagnosis was 29.2 (IQR: 22.6,37.6) and 27.6 (IQR: 20.6,37.6) for patients with UC and CD, respectively. The male-to-female ratio was 1.28 in CD patients. A positive family history was observed in 17.9% of UC patients. The majority of UC patients had pancolitis (47%). Ileocolonic involvement was the most common type of involvement in CD patients (43.7%), and the prevalence of stricturing behavior was 4.6%. A prevalence of 0.3% was observed for colorectal cancer among patients with UC. Moreover,15.2% of UC patients and 38.4% of CD patients had been treated with anti-tumor necrosis factor (anti-TNF). Conclusion: In this national registry-based study, there are significant differences in some clinical phenotypes such as the prevalence of extra-intestinal manifestations and treatment strategies such as biological use in different geographical locations.

Abstract:Abstract Background With an increase in the number of Ulcerative Colitis (UC) patients in Japan, UC associated neoplasia (UCAN) cases have been accumulated. Laparoscopic surgery for sporadic advanced colorectal cancer was approved in 2002 and biologic agents have been approved for UC from 2010 in Japan. However, few reports have ever examined the time trend using a large patient cohort. We aimed to clarify time trend in clinicopathological features and prognosis of UCAN with a nationwide cohort. This study was conducted as a sub-analysis of the nationwide retrospective study across 47 institutions from the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum. Methods A total of 1,139 UCAN patients were identified in the nationwide cohort from 1983 to 2020. Clinicopathological features, 5-year cancer specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS) were compared among the following three groups by the period of UCAN diagnosis, before 2000, 2001-2010 and 2011-2020 (the results are shown in this order). Results The number of UCAN patients registered in the database were 59, 340 and 740 in each period. Age at UCAN diagnosis (47, 51, 54, median, p<0.01) and the disease duration from UC diagnosis to UCAN diagnosis (14.3, 16.0, 17.5 years, mean, p<0.01) increased through the study periods. The rate of a surveillance colonoscopy as a diagnostic procedure (36.2%, 58.6%, 72.8%, p<0.01) increased without a change in the ratios of early (pathological stage 0-I) neoplasia (60.7%, 59.5%, 62.2%, p=0.72). Laparoscopic surgery became a dominant surgical procedure in the recent cases (1.7%, 33.2%, 47.7%, p<0.01) without an increase in postoperative complication rate (39.7%, 29.2%, 29.8%, p=0.26). Improvement in 5-year CSS (77.2%, 87.5%, 90.7%, p<0.05) and OS (77.2%, 84.3%, 88.5%, p<0.05) was observed. Among pathological stage III patients, better curative resection rate (66.7%, 92.6%, 97.1%, p<0.01) and the more use of adjuvant chemotherapy in the last decade (50.0%, 58.5%, 76.6%, p<0.05) were observed. Conclusion Longer duration of UC before the diagnosis of UCAN was observed in recent cases, which might be due to the improvement of medical therapy, including biologic agents. Minimally invasive surgery prevailed without an increase in postoperative complications. Curative resection and adjuvant chemotherapy might play a role in improvement of 5-year CSS and OS.

Abstract:Abstract Background Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) are at higher risk of developing dysplastic lesions and colorectal cancer (CRC). Despite the use of high-definition endoscopes, dysplasia is not always detected at colonoscopy. This study aims to determine the rate of dysplastic lesions detected only at colectomy in IBD patients and to identify the characteristics of patients with undetected dysplasia. Methods We retrospectively identified IBD patients that underwent total or sub-total colectomy at Mayo Clinic, between January 2013 and December 2022. Patients with a confirmed IBD diagnosis, with at least one colonoscopy report prior to surgery available, were included. Data collected was demographics, comorbid conditions, colonoscopy, surgery, and their pathology reports. Concordance between dysplasia found at colonoscopy and dysplasia found at surgery was evaluated, noting dysplasia sites and grade. Patients were then divided into three groups: those with at least one undetected dysplastic lesion at surgery, those with dysplasia detected at colonoscopy and no further lesions at surgery, and those without dysplasia at both. Results Seven hundred-four patients were included: 387 (55%) were male, 450 (64%) had ulcerative colitis, 197 (28%) had Crohn’s disease and 57 (8%) had indeterminate colitis. In 42 patients (6%) dysplasia was undetected at colonoscopy, 136 (19.3%) had dysplasia detected at colonoscopy, and 526 (74.7%) had no dysplasia at both. In the group with dysplasia detected, 40 patients (30%) had dysplasia only at colonoscopy while 96 (70%) had dysplasia at surgery as well. Among those with undetected dysplasia, in 17 (40%) dysplasia was identified only at surgery: 14 (82%) had low grade dysplasia and 3 (18%) had cancer. All cancers were stage 1. Three of these patients (18%) had primary sclerosing cholangitis and 4 (23%) had a family history of cancer. In the other 25 patients (60%), dysplasia was detected at colonoscopy but further dysplastic foci were identified at surgery. In 13 (52%) patients dysplasia was upgraded, in 2 (8%) was downgraded and in 10 (40%) the grade was confirmed. Compared to those with detected dysplasia, these patients more frequently had moderate-severe disease activity, and less frequently a prior history of dysplasia. There was no difference in age at surgery, but those with undetected dysplasia had less years of disease at colectomy. Further results are shown in Table 1. Conclusion The rate of dysplastic lesions found at colectomy and missed at colonoscopy is 6%. Dysplastic lesions tend to be undetected when endoscopic disease activity is more severe and regardless of the use of extensive nontargeted biopsies.

Abstract:Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a risk factor for the development of inflammation-associated dysplasia or colitis-associated neoplasia (CAN). This transformation results from chronic inflammation, which induces changes in epithelial proliferation, survival, and migration via the induction of chemokines and cytokines. There are notable differences in genetic mutation profiles between CAN in UC patients and sporadic colorectal cancer in the general population. Colonoscopy is the cornerstone for surveillance and management of dysplasia in these patients. There are several modalities to augment the quality of endoscopy for the better detection of dysplastic or neoplastic lesions, including the use of high-definition white-light exam and image-enhanced colonoscopy, which are described in this review. Clinical practice guidelines regarding surveillance strategies in UC have been put forth by various GI societies, and overall, there is agreement between them except for some differences, which we highlight in this article. These guidelines recommend that endoscopically detected dysplasia, if feasible, should be resected endoscopically. Advanced newer techniques, such as endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection, have been utilized in the treatment of CAN. Surgery has traditionally been the mainstay of treating such advanced lesions, and in cases where endoscopic resection is not feasible, a proctocolectomy, followed by ileal pouch-anal anastomosis, is generally recommended. In this review we summarize the approach to surveillance for cancer and dysplasia in UC. We also highlight management strategies if dysplasia is detected.

Abstract:Abstract Background Acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC) affects up to 25% of patients with UC and is significantly associated with an increased risk of colectomy. Despite improvements in medical management, individual patient prognostication and risk stratification in ASUC remains clinically challenging. We explored clinical, biochemical, and endoscopic factors as potential predictors for colectomy in patients hospitalized with ASUC. Methods A retrospective analysis of patients with ASUC as defined by Truelove and Witts criteria admitted to the Mount Sinai Hospital between 2011 and 2020 was conducted. Patients with well-documented data on disease history, medication use, clinical symptoms, and laboratory results during admission for ASUC were included. Colectomy risk during hospitalization and within one year was assessed. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify clinical, biochemical, and endoscopic parameters associated with colectomy risk in patients with ASUC. Results Out of the 158 patients included, 34 (21.5%) underwent colectomy during hospital admission, and 41 (25.9%) within one year after admission. On multivariable analysis, adjusting for age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and disease duration, prior anti-TNF exposure (odds ratio [OR] 4.59, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.57-13.4, P=0.005) and the use of biologics (any type) at admission (OR 3.31, 95%CI: 1.14-9.63, P=0.028) were associated with an increased risk of 1-year colectomy. Conversely, the use of mesalamines at admission was associated with a decreased risk of 1-year colectomy (OR 0.31, 95%CI: [0.13-0.72], P=0.006). Furthermore, recent UC-related hospitalization (within one year of admission) (OR 2.72, 95%CI: 1.15-6.43, P=0.022) and increased number of bowel movements after 3 days of treatment (OR 1.18, 95%CI: 1.04-1.34, P=0.011) were associated with higher risk of 1-year colectomy. Biomarkers measured at admission including hemoglobin and albumin were associated with a decreased risk, while CRP was associated with an increased risk of urgent and 1-year colectomy. Patients with deep ulcerations observed at endoscopy tended to have an increased risk of urgent colectomy, although this was not statistically significant (univariable OR 3.36, P=0.081). Finally, treatment of ASUC with anti-TNF was strongly associated with a decreased risk of urgent (OR 0.30, 95%CI: 0.13-0.73, P=0.007) and 1-year colectomy (OR 0.31, 95%CI: 0.14-0.73, P=0.007). Conclusion In patients with ASUC, anti-TNF treatment is associated with a reduced risk of both urgent and 1-year colectomy. Conversely a history of anti-TNF exposure is linked to a higher risk of both urgent and 1-year colectomy. This data emphasizes the need for alternative therapies.

Abstract:Background: Ulcerative colitis-associated colorectal cancer (UC-CRC) is a serious complication of UC. Data on the clinical characteristics of patients in China are scarce. Aims: We aimed to study the incidence, characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of CRC patients with a history of UC. Materials and methods: We identified patients with UC and followed them until the first occurrence of cancer, death, or emigration in a single study center in China. Results: A total of 4 UC-associated CRC patients were identified among the 642 cases recorded from January 2000 to December 2012. The overall risk of cancer was 0.64%. The overall median duration of UC was 15.5 years (range 6-21 years) in patients with UC-associated CRC. Of these patients, 75% (3/4) were at an advanced stage when they were diagnosed. Longer disease duration and extensive colitis were identified as risk factors for developing CRC, and 5-aminosalicylic acid and steroid therapies were not identified as protective factors against UC-associated CRC. Conclusions: Patients with UC are at an increased risk for CRC. However, the prevalence of CRC in China remains lower than that in the West.

Abstract:564 Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is correlated with gastrointestinal cancer. While the exact mechanism is unknown, it is thought that a chronic inflammatory state may result in the development of malignancies including cholangiocarcinoma. Patients with UC that develop cholangiocarcinoma usually have a poor prognosis and early detection is key to improve survival. Methods: We used the 2016-2019 National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database, the largest all-payer inpatient care database in the United States, to stratify all patients admitted with a diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma with and without ulcerative colitis, to further characterize their epidemiological characteristics. Results: There were at total of 46,001 patients with a diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma studied. Of these patients with cholangiocarcinoma, 401 had concomitant UC (0.87%). Individuals with UC in the database had an increased association with cholangiocarcinoma (OR=7.67, 95% CI 6.96-8.46) compared to those without UC. Patients with cholangiocarcinoma and UC tended to be younger (57.8 vs. 67.9 years old without UC), male (69.51% vs. 53.23% without UC), with private insurance (57.5%) vs. patients without UC who predominately had Medicare (59.46%). Patients with cholangiocarcinoma and UC had on average fewer Charleston Comorbidities (64.63% with 3 comorbidities) vs. patients without UC (74.52% with 3 comorbidities). Of patients with cholangiocarcinoma and UC, 65.85% were Caucasian (vs. 64.85% without UC), 6.1% were Black (vs. 10.09% without UC), 3.66% were Hispanic (vs. 12.37% without), and 24.39% were Asian or Pacific Islander (vs 12.79% without). Conclusions: In the population studied, there was a significant correlation between UC and cholangiocarcinoma. Patients with cholangiocarcinoma and UC tended to be younger with fewer comorbidities than their counterparts without. There were nearly double the percentage of Asian patients with cholangiocarcinoma and UC as compared to Asian patients without UC. Understanding the characteristics of patients with UC who develop cholangiocarcinoma is important as it could inform future best practices in potential screening and early detection of carcinomas in patients with UC. Abstract:It is a known fact that Lynch syndrome (LS) and Ulcerative colitis (UC) are individually associated with increased risk of colorectal cancer. While there is no conclusive evidence to demonstrate a cumulative risk when these two conditions coexist, available data suggest early onset and synchronous cancers are synonymous to this group. We have reported an unusual case of multiple synchronous colorectal cancers in a young man with ulcerative colitis and Lynch syndrome also known as Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) gene mutation. We propose that conducting a detailed genetic mutation profile in LS patients may play a key role in guiding the intensity of endoscopic surveillance and that a concerted, pragmatic, patient guided approach should be adopted on the subject of prophylactic colectomy when UC and LS co-exist.
Clinical variables as prognostic tools in pediatric-onset ulcerative colitis: a retrospective cohort study

Abstract:Background: Clinical variables may identify a subset of patients with pediatric-onset ulcerative colitis (UC) (≤18 years at diagnosis) at risk for adverse outcomes. We postulated that routinely measured clinical variables measured at diagnosis would predict colectomy in patients with pediatric-onset UC. Methods: We conducted a chart review of patients with pediatric-onset UC at a single center over a 10-year period. We compared patients with and without colectomy across several variables, used proportional hazards regression to adjust for potential confounders, and assessed the ability of a UC risk score to predict colectomy. Results: Among 470 patients with inflammatory bowel disease ICD9-coded encounters, 155 patients had UC and 135 were eligible for analysis. The 1- and 3-year colectomy rates were 16.7% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 11.0%-24.8%) and 35.6% (26.7%-45.4%). White blood cell (WBC) count and hematocrit measured at diagnosis were associated with colectomy at 3 years, even after correcting for potential confounding variables. A UC Risk Score derived from the WBC count and hematocrit was strongly associated with colectomy risk, with a high negative predictive value (NPV) for colectomy at 1 and 3 years (NPV = 0.95 and 0.89, respectively), but low positive predictive value (PPV = 0.22 and 0.38, respectively). Conclusions: A risk score calculated from WBC and hematocrit measured at diagnosis was associated with, but incompletely predictive of, colectomy in pediatric-onset UC. These data suggest 1) routinely measured clinical variables may have a prognostic role in risk stratification, and 2) multicenter prospective studies are needed to optimize risk stratification in pediatric UC. Our findings have impact on the design of such studies.
Surveillance Colonoscopy for Ulcerative Colitis-Associated Colorectal Cancer Offers Better Overall Survival in Real-World Surgically Resected Cases

Abstract:Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of surveillance colonoscopy (SC) and optimize its use by assessing real-world surgically resected cases of ulcerative colitis (UC)-associated colorectal cancer (CRC) and dysplasia. Methods: Clinicopathological data of 406 (238 CRC and 168 dysplasia) patients who underwent surgical resection in 10 UC specialized institutions were retrospectively reviewed. The overall survival (OS) rates were compared between the SC and non-SC groups. The incidence of and risk factors for early-onset CRC (<8 years after UC onset) were identified. The distribution of CRC lesions was also assessed. Results: Cancer stages were significantly more advanced in the non-SC group than in the SC group (P < 0.001). The patients in the SC group showed significantly better OS than those in the non-SC group (5-year OS: 89% vs 70%; log-rank test: P = 0.001). Seventeen percent of patients developed CRC within 8 years after UC onset. The age at UC onset was a risk factor and a good predictor of early-onset CRC (<8 years) (P < 0.01; AUC: 0.85). The most common sites of CRC were the rectum (51%) and sigmoid colon (20%). Multiple CRC was identified in 16% of patients. Conclusions: Surveillance colonoscopy was effective and improved the OS in patients with UC. We recommend that patients with late-onset UC (>40 years) undergo SCs earlier because of the high incidence of CRC within 8 years of UC onset. Moreover, the rectum and sigmoid colon should be more thoroughly examined.

Abstract:Prior studies suggest that colonoscopy may worsen inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) symptoms. Anecdotally, at our institution, patients who are in clinical remission prior to colonoscopy occasionally report an increase in symptoms after colonoscopy. This study aims to determine the incidence of ulcerative colitis (UC) flare after colonoscopy and to identify factors associated with an increased risk of flare in the post-procedure period.

Abstract:Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a risk factor in developing colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CA-CRC). CA-CRC causes the death of about 15% IBD patients and the risk is 1.5–2.4 fold higher among IBD sufferers than in the general population. The dysplasia CA-CRC develops in a different mechanism in comparison to sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed at evaluating the surgical treatment and its outcomes as well as 5-year survival rates in the CA-CRC and sporadic CRC patients. Materials and methods: This single-center, retrospective, propensity score-matched case-control study was conducted with 2204 patients operated on due to primary CRC, who were hospitalized from 2003 to 2019. The CA-CRC group consisted of 49 patients with CRC in the course of IBD. The sporadic CRC group was selected with the propensity score matching technique and comprised 98 patients with sporadic CRC who did not have clinical or histopathological features characteristic for IBD. Results: CA-CRC is characterized by a more aggressive clinical course. Surgical treatment of CA-CRC involves more palliative operations and is related with a higher risk of perioperative and postoperative complications. Further studies of CA-CRC risk factor stratification and the development of molecular markers hold promise in reducing CRC in IBD patients in the future were warranted.
