Abstract:A new method for the fabrication of monodispersed Cu nanoparticles on electrode surface was explored, and a novel electrochemical sensor for the sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was constructed by assembling copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) on the precursor film poly-p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid (poly-ABSA) electropolymerized on glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The assembly process consisted of two steps: the ion-exchange and coordination of Cu2+ with the sulfonic groups contained in poly-ABSA film, and the subsequent in-situ reduction of Cu2+ ions to Cu-NPs by electrochemical method. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that Cu-NPs were highly monodispersed in whole poly-ABSA, which was strongly attached to the electrode surface. The modified electrode Cu-NPs/poly-ABSA/GCE was also characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of H2O2 with high stability. Amperometry was used for the determination of H2O2 at a more positive potential of -0.2 V versus Ag/AgCl in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution, with a linear range from 0.2 mu M to 2.32 mM and a detection limit of 0.1 mu M. The Cu-NPs/poly-ABSA/GCE allowed sensitive, stable and fast amperometric sensing of H2O2, and this was promising for the development of nonenzymatic sensors. The analysis of medical disinfection solution real samples was performed using the proposed method, and the obtained results were satisfactory. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Layer-by-layer chitosan-decorated pristine graphene on screen-printed electrodes was achieved by one-step electrodeposition method and an enzyme-free hydrogen peroxide electrochemical biosensor was fabricated for its application. Negatively charged pristine graphene absorbed with positively charged chitosan by electrostatic interactions was electrodeposited on the electrodes. The successful immobilization of pristine graphene was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical characterizations. The graphene-chitosan volume ratio and cyclic voltammetry scan cycles during the electrodeposition process were optimized. The resulting hydrogen peroxide biosensors showed a 178 times improved sensitivity and exhibited two wide linear detection ranges from 20 μM to 20 mM and from 20 mM to 60 mM. The biosensors also showed a good reproducibility, stability, selectivity and could be used in real samples detection. The superior electrochemical performance of graphene-chitosan was attributed to the preservation of excellent properties of pristine graphene, and the formation of layer-by-layer structure with high surface area. The proposed strategy of direct immobilization of pristine graphene can be extended for the immobilization of other nanomaterials and biomolecules.

Abstract:A disposable amperometric biosensor for commercial use to detect hydrogen peroxide has been developed. The sensor is based on screen-printed carbon paste electrodes modified by electropolymerization of pyrrole with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) entrapped. The facture techniques of fabricating the enzyme electrodes are suitable for mass production and quality control. The biosensor shows a linear amperometric response to H2O2 from 0.1 to 2.0 mM, with a sensitivity of 33.24 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2). Different operational parameters of electropolymerization are evaluated and optimized.

Abstract:We report the synthesis of Fe3O4/graphene (Fe3O4/Gr) nanocomposite for highly selective and highly sensitive peroxide sensor application. The nanocomposites were produced by a modified co-precipitation method. Further, structural, chemical, and morphological characterization of the Fe3O4/Gr was investigated by standard characterization techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The average crystal size of Fe3O4 nanoparticles was calculated as 14.5 nm. Moreover, nanocomposite (Fe3O4/Gr) was employed to fabricate the flexible electrode using polymeric carbon fiber cloth or carbon cloth (pCFC or CC) as support. The electrochemical performance of as-fabricated Fe3O4/Gr/CC was evaluated toward H2O2 with excellent electrocatalytic activity. It was found that Fe3O4/Gr/CC-based electrodes show a good linear range, high sensitivity, and a low detection limit for H2O2 detection. The linear range for the optimized sensor was found to be in the range of 10–110 μM and limit of detection was calculated as 4.79 μM with a sensitivity of 0.037 μA μM−1 cm−2. The cost-effective materials used in this work as compared to noble metals provide satisfactory results. As well as showing high stability, the proposed biosensor is also highly reproducible.

Abstract:A laser-induced graphene (LIG) surface modified with Prussian blue (iron hexacyanoferrate) is demonstrated as a novel electrochemical sensing platform for the sensitive and selective detection of hydrogen peroxide. Electrochemical Prussian blue (PB) modification on porous graphene films engraved by infrared laser over flexible polyimide was accomplished. Scanning electron microscopy images combined with Raman spectra confirm the formation of porous graphene and homogenous electrodeposition of PB over this porous surface. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy reveals a substantial decrease in the resistance to charge transfer values (from 395 to 31.4 Ω) after the PB insertion, which confirms the formation of a highly conductive PB-graphene composite. The synergistic properties of PB and porous graphene were investigated for the constant monitoring of hydrogen peroxide at 0.0 V vs. Ag|AgCl|KCl(sat.), under high-flow injections (166 µL s-1) confirming the high stability of the modified surface and fast response within a wide linear range (from 1 to 200 µmol L-1). Satisfactory detection limit (0.26 µmol L-1) and selectivity verified by the analysis of complex samples confirmed the excellent sensing performance of this platform. We highlight that the outstanding sensing characteristics of the developed sensor were superior in comparison with other PB-based or LIG-based electrochemical sensors reported for hydrogen peroxide detection.
Free-standing and flexible graphene papers as disposable non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors

Abstract:We have explored AuNPs (13 nm) both as a catalyst and as a core for synthesizing water-dispersible and highly stable core-shell structural gold@Prussian blue (Au@PB) nanoparticles (NPs). Systematic characterization by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) disclosed AuNPs coated uniformly by a 5 nm thick PB layer. Au@PB NPs were attached to single-layer graphene oxide (GO) to form Au@PB decorated GO sheets. The resulting hybrid material was filtered layer-by-layer into flexible and free-standing GO paper, which was further converted into conductive reduced GO (RGO)/Au@PB paper via hydrazine vapour reduction. High-resolution TEM images suggested that RGO papers are multiply sandwich-like structures functionalized with core-shell NPs. Resulting sandwich functionalized graphene papers have high conductivity, sufficient flexibility, and robust mechanical strength, which can be cut into free-standing electrodes. Such electrodes, used as non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors, were tested systematically for electrocatalytic sensing of hydrogen peroxide. The high performance was indicated by some of the key parameters, for example the linear H2O2 concentration response range (1-30 μM), the detection limit (100 nM), and the high amperometric sensitivity (5 A cm(-2) M(-1)). With the advantages of low cost and scalable production capacity, such graphene supported functional papers are of particular interest in the use as flexible disposable sensors.

Abstract:Prussian blue (PB) films have been widely used for blood glucose monitoring. Here, we present the strategy to improve the performance and sensitivity of PB film for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) monitoring by using modified gold electrode for hydrogen peroxide monitoring. The microstructure of the studied electrodes was characterized using scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The electrochemical properties of experimental electrodes were obtained via cyclic voltammograms and chronoamperometry methods. The results show that the thickness of deposited PB film is increased with the deposition time. The PB-modified electrode exhibits the widest linear range and best operational stability after being electrochemically deposited for 240 s. The highest sensitivity for experimental electrodes is obtained on samples deposited for 40 s (341 mA cm−2 M−1), indicating that a thinner PB film with certain critical thickness can accelerate the exchanging rate of K+ between PB lattice and the tested solution.

Abstract:Let $n$ be a positive integer. Denote by $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ the $n$-dimensional projective space over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of order $q$. A blocking set in $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ is a set of points that has non-empty intersection with every hyperplane of $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$. A blocking set is called minimal if none of its proper subsets are blocking sets. In this note we prove that if $\mathrm{PG}(n_i,q)$ contains a minimal blocking set of size $k_i$ for $i\in\{1,2\}$, then $\mathrm{PG}(n_1+n_2+1,q)$ contains a minimal blocking set of size $k_1+k_2-1$. This result is proved by a result on groups with maximal irredundant covers.

Abstract:Three-dimensional (3D) graphene-based nanomaterials have shown wide applications in electrochemical fields such as biosensors. In this study, we displayed a simple fabrication of 3D structural reduced graphene oxide (3D structural RGO) decorated with molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS2QDs) through a three-step reaction process. With its abundant raw materials, this strategy is economic and non-toxic. Various characterization techniques were utilized to characterize the morphologies of the synthesized MoS2QDs, graphene oxide (GO), and 3D structural RGO-MoS2QDs composites. Simultaneously, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was applied to characterize the structure and properties of composites. In order to understand the effects of the reaction period on the structure of 3D structural RGO-MoS2QDs, a series of samples with various reaction periods were prepared for morphological characterization. Finally, the fabricated 3D structural RGO-MoS2QDs composites were used to modify a glassy carbon electrode as an electrochemical non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor. The obtained results indicate that the fabricated electrochemical H2O2 sensor exhibits a wide detection range (0.01–5.57 mM), low detection limit (1.90 μM), good anti-interference performance, and long-time stability (18 days).
Hydrogen Peroxide Electrochemical Detection for the Development of Protein Film-Modified Sensor

Abstract:A protein thin film-modified electrode sensor, that features both generalizability and simplicity in design toward reagentless detection of hydrogen peroxide with high sensitivity and reliability, is reported here. Within this electrode device, the film active material of the nanocomposite of myoglobin and zirconium (iv) ion-adenosine monophosphate dianion particles forming via monolayer adsorption of protein, is fabricated on a glassy carbon surface using self-assembly technique. The electrode modification helps in facilitating the direct electron transfer kinetics of protein at the formal potential (E°′) of 12.3mV versus SHE (pH 7.0). As a result, the potential applied in H2O2 determination through reduction can be shifted to −3.7mV, a useful characteristic for further applications. Furthermore, the electrode configuration provides sufficient operational stability for sensing. Detection limit of 0.06μM and the linear calibration range up to 148.47μM H2O2 are obtained for this sensor. The sensor assay can retain a value of 91.7% initial activity within 1 month.

Abstract:We developed a Prussian blue@Au nanoparticles/SiO2-cavities/indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode for a novel non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide detection. The ordered SiO2 cavities were fabricated on the ITO electrode using the close-packed ordered polystyrene spheres (PS) as templates. The PB@Au nanoparticles were prepared using a two-step process in which gold nanoparticles were deposited at the bottom of the SiO2 cavity by electrochemical methods, while Prussian blue was introduced to the AuNPs surface by chemical deposition. The submicron-sized conductive region and the domain-limiting effect of the insulating SiO2 cavity give the electrode the characteristics of a microelectrode, enabling it to exhibit unique electrochemical properties during the electrochemical reduction of H2O2. The proposed PB@Au/SiO2 cavity/ITO electrode was further used for detecting H2O2 with a wide linearity range of 0.08-8 mM and a low detection limit of 0.3 μM.

Abstract:Electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) is a versatile material for the electrode modification, which enables modification of the physicochemical properties of the surface by the reduction and reoxidation of oxygen groups. The oxygen functional groups and structural defects of ERGO deposited on a layer of metal nanoparticles facilitate the electron transport and enhance the electrocatalytic properties of the nanoparticles. ERGO layers show moderate-intrinsic electrocatalytic properties towards the electrochemical reduction of hydrogen peroxide. In this contribution, we present studies of ERGO layers on the top of the nanoparticle layer composed of gold nanoparticles stabilized with silicotungstate ligands (Au/SiW12), silver nanoparticles stabilized with silicotungstate ligands (Ag/SiW12), and silver nanoparticles stabilized with phosphomolybdate ions (Ag/PMo12). The nanoparticles are prepared by the reduction of the chloroauric acid or silver nitrate by the partially reduced forms of H4SiW12O40 or H3PMo12O40 acid. The films of nanoparticles are conditioned by the repetitive potential cycling at pH = 6 before the deposition of the graphene oxide (GO) layer. The GO layer is reduced by scanning the potential between − 0.4 and − 1.2 V vs. SCE. Combination of ERGO with Au/SiW12 or Ag/SiW12 nanoparticles results in synergistic enhancement of amperometric responses to hydrogen peroxide. The electrocatalytic current values observed for the NPs-ERGO layers are higher than the sum of the current for the pure NPs layers and the ERGO layer deposited on a glassy carbon electrode. The Ag/PMo12 nanoparticles show poor electrocatalytic currents due to possible formation of aggregate structures. Infrared and Raman spectroscopies are applied to investigate the electrocatalytic layers.

Abstract:We report a nonenzymatic H2O2 sensor based on a glassy carbon electrode modified with bilayer graphene films (BGFs) that were decorated with well-defined Pd nanoparticles. The BGFs were synthesized with a chemical vapor deposition process, and the Pd nanoparticle films were produced by gas phase cluster beam deposition. The BGFs provide great accessible active surface area and excellent conductive interfaces for electron transfer, which largely enhance the electrocatalytic performance of the modified electrodes. Abstract:A hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) sensor based on Pd nanoparticles (NPs) and glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) is fabricated. Pd NPs are deposited on GCEs by using a gas phase cluster beam deposition technique. The NP-deposited electrodes show enhanced electrocatalytic activity in reduction of H 2 O 2 . The electrode with an optimized NP coverage of 85 % has a high selective and stable nonenzymatic sensing ability of H 2 O 2 with a low detection limit (3.4 × 10 −7 M), high sensitivity (50.9 μA mM −1 ), and a wide linear range (from 1.0 × 10 −6 to 6.0 × 10 −3 M). The reduction peak potential of the electrode is close to −0.12 V, which enables high selective amperometric detection of H 2 O 2 at a low applied potential.

Abstract:This work reported a one-step electroposition to fabricate a graphene nanosheets doped polypyrrole modified gold (PPy/GENS/Au) electrode at the on-chip three-electrode-system electrochemical sensor array. The PPy/GENS/Au electrode exhibited excellent electrochemical properties of large current response, good reproducibility and stability. When applied for the detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), this proposed sensor carry out a rapid, direct and selective determination of H2O2 with the linear range from 1 to 10mM (R-square=0.9914) and a sensitivity of about 32 mu A mM(-1)cm(-2). The simple and low-cost construction of PPy/GENS/Au electrode shows a great promise to fabricate mass-produced nano-platform for potential application of biosensing analysis in a lab-on-a-chip system.

Abstract:Enzyme-free amperometric ultrasensitive determination of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was investigated using a Prussian blue (PB) film-modified gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) graphite–wax composite electrode. A stable PB film was obtained on graphite surface through 2-aminoethanethiol (AET)-capped AuNPs by a simple approach. Field emission scanning electron microscope studies results in formation of PB nanoparticle in the size range of 60–80 nm. Surface modification of PB film on AET–AuNPs–GW composite electrode was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR) spectroscopy studies. Highly sensitive determination of H2O2 at a peak potential of −0.10 V (vs. SCE) in 0.1 M KCl PBS, pH = 7.0) at a scan rate of 20 mVs−1 with a sensitivity of 23.58 μA/mM was observed with the modified electrode using cyclic voltammetry. The synergetic effect of PB film with AuNPs has resulted in a linear range of 0.05 to 7,800 μM with a detection limit of 0.015 μM for H2O2 detection with the present electrode. Chronoamperometric studies recorded for the successive additions of H2O2 with the modified electrode showed an excellent linearity (R2 = 0.9932) in the range of 4.8 × 10−8 to 7.4 × 10−8 M with a limit of detection of 1.4 × 10−8 M. Selective determination of H2O2 in presence of various interferents was successfully demonstrated. Human urine samples and stain remover solutions were also investigated for H2O2 content.

Abstract:A nonenzymatic hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) sensor was fabricated using the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and ferroferric oxide (Fe(3)O(4)) nanocomposites as the sensing material. The nanocomposites were synthesized by coprecipitation method and characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Results showed that the RGO sheet was evenly decorated by the well-crystallized Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles. The nanocomposites showed enhanced catalytic ability to the reduction of hydrogen peroxide compared with the RGO, Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles alone and the mixture materials. The sensor has a quite wide linear range from 0.1mM to 6mM (R(2)=0.990) with less than 5s response time. Moreover, its detection limit is 3.2 μM (S/N=3). The anti-interference ability, long-term stability and potential application in real samples of the sensor is also assessed. This work expands the application of the graphene-based nanomaterials in the sensor areas.

Here, we report a novel graphene supported intermetallic PtPb nanoplates (PtPb/G) nanocomposite as an enhanced electrochemical sensing platform for high-sensitivity detection of H2O2 in neutral solution and also released from the cells. The intermetallic PtPb nanoplates are first synthesized via a simple wet-chemistry process and subsequently assembled on graphene via a solution-phase self-assembly approach. The obtained nanocomposite exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity for the electrochemical reduction of H2O2 in a half-cell test and can detect H2O2 with a wide linear detection range of 2 nM to 2.5 mM and a very low detection limit of 2 nM. Under the same conditions, the sensitivity of PtPb/G for the detection of H2O2 is more than 12.7 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C. The high-density of electrocatalytic active sites on the unique PtPb nanoplates and the synergistic effect between PtPb nanoplates and graphene appear to be the main factors in contributing to the outstanding electroanalytical performance. The PtPb/G can be also used for the practical detection of H2O2 released from Raw 264.7 cells.
A Non-Disposable Electrochemical Sensor Based on Laser-Synthesized Pd/LIG Nanocomposite-Modified Screen-Printed Electrodes for the Detection of H2O2

Abstract:There have been many studies on the significant correlation between the hydrogen peroxide content of different tissues or cells in the human body and the risk of disease, so the preparation of biosensors for detecting hydrogen peroxide concentration has been a hot topic for researchers. In this paper, palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) and laser-induced graphene (LIG) were prepared by liquid-phase pulsed laser ablation and laser-induced technology, respectively. The complexes were prepared by stirring and used for the modification of screen-printed electrodes to develop a non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide biosensor that is low cost and mass preparable. The PdNPs prepared with anhydrous ethanol as a solvent have a uniform particle size distribution. The LIG prepared by laser direct writing has good electrical conductivity, and its loose porous structure provides more adsorption sites. The electrochemical properties of the modified electrode were characterized by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Compared with bare screen-printed electrodes, the modified electrodes are more sensitive for the detection of hydrogen peroxide. The sensor has a linear response range of 5 μM–0.9 mM and 0.9 mM–5 mM. The limit of detection is 0.37 μM. The above conclusions indicate that the hydrogen peroxide electrochemical biosensor prepared in this paper has great advantages and potential in electrochemical catalysis.

Abstract:In this investigation, a hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) electrochemical sensor was evaluated. Prussian blue (PB) was electrodeposited at a glassy carbon (GC) electrode modified with titanium dioxide– and zirconia-doped functionalized carbon nanotubes (TiO 2 .ZrO 2 -fCNTs), obtaining the PB/TiO 2 .ZrO 2 -fCNTs/GC-modified electrode. The morphology and structure of the nanostructured material TiO 2 .ZrO 2 -fCNTs was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, the specific surface area was determined via Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The electrochemical properties were studied by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. Titania-zirconia nanoparticles (5.0 ± 2.0 nm) with an amorphous structure were directly synthesized on the fCNT walls, aged during periods of 20 days, obtaining a well-dispersed distribution with a high surface area. The results indicated that the TiO 2 .ZrO 2 -fCNT–nanostructured material exhibits good electrochemical properties and could be tunable by enhancing the modification conditions and method of synthesis. Covering of the nanotubes with TiO 2 -ZrO 2 nanoparticles is one of the main factors that affected immobilization and sensitivity of the electrochemical biosensor. The electrode modified with TiO 2 -ZrO 2 nanoparticles with the 20-day aging time was superior regarding its reversibility, electric communication, and high sensitivity and improves the immobilization of the PB at the electrode. The fabricated sensor was used in the detection of H 2 O 2 in whey milk samples, presenting a linear relationship from 100 to 1,000 μmol L −1 between H 2 O 2 concentration and the peak current, with a quantification limit (LQ) of 59.78 μmol L −1 and a detection limit (LD) of 17.93 μmol L −1 .
