Abstract:Background Alzheimer disease has no known cure. As existing pharmacologic interventions only modestly slow cognitive decline, there is a need for new treatments. Recent trials of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) have reported encouraging results for improving or stabilizing cognition in patients diagnosed with Alzheimer dementia. However, owing to small samples and lack of a well-controlled double-blind design, the results to date are inconclusive. This paper presents the protocol for a large placebo-controlled double-blind study designed with sufficient statistical rigor to measure the efficacy of rTMS treatment in patients with Alzheimer dementia. Objective The objectives are to (1) recruit and enroll up to 200 eligible participants, (2) estimate the difference in treatment effects between active treatment and sham treatment, (3) estimate the difference in treatment effects between two doses of rTMS applications, (4) estimate the duration of treatment effects among responders to active rTMS treatment, and (5) estimate the effect of dementia severity on treatment outcomes among patients receiving active rTMS treatment. Methods We have designed our study to be a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial investigating the short- and long-term (up to 6 months) benefits of active rTMS treatment at two doses (10 sessions over 2 weeks and 20 sessions over 4 weeks) compared with sham rTMS treatment. The study will include patients aged ≥55 years who are diagnosed with Alzheimer disease at an early to moderate stage and have no history of seizures and no major depression. The primary outcome measure is the change in the Alzheimer Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive Subscale score from pretreatment to posttreatment. Secondary outcomes are changes in performance on tests of frontal lobe functioning (Stroop test and verbal fluency), changes in neuropsychiatric symptoms (Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire), and changes in activities of daily living (Alzheimer Disease Co-operative Study-Activities of Daily Living Inventory). Tolerability of the intervention will be assessed using a modification of the Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication. We assess participants at baseline and 3, 5, 8, 16, and 24 weeks after the intervention. Results As of November 1, 2020, we have screened 523 individuals, out of which 133 were eligible and have been enrolled. Out of the 133 individuals, 104 have completed the study. Moreover, as of November 1, 2020, there has been no serious adverse event. We anticipate that rTMS will considerably improve cognitive function, with effects lasting up to 3 months. Moreover, we expect rTMS to be a well-tolerated treatment with no serious side effect. Conclusions This protocol design will allow to address both the rTMS active treatment dose and its short- and long-term effects compared with sham treatment in large samples. Abstract:Background Many clinical trials investigating treatment efficacy require an interim analysis. Recently we have been running a large, multisite, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial investigating the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) treatment for improving or stabilizing the cognition of patients diagnosed with Alzheimer disease. Objective The objectives of this paper are to report on recruitment, adherence, and adverse events (AEs) to date, and to describe in detail the protocol for interim analysis of the clinical trial data. The protocol will investigate whether the trial is likely to reach its objectives if continued to the planned maximum sample size. Methods The specific requirements of the analytic protocol are to (1) ensure the double-blind nature of the data while doing the analysis, (2) estimate the predictive probabilities of success (PPoSs), (3) estimate the numbers needed to treat, (4) re-estimate the initial required sample size. The initial estimate of sample size was 208. The interim analysis will be based on 150 patients who will be enrolled in the study and finish at least 8 weeks of the study. Our protocol for interim analysis, at the very first stage, is to determine the response rate for each participant to the treatment (either sham or active), while ensuring the double-blind nature of the data. The blinded data will be analyzed by a statistician to investigate the treatment efficacy. We will use Bayesian PPoS to predict the success rate and determine whether the study should continue. Results The enrollment has been slowed significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. Nevertheless, so far 133 participants have been enrolled, while 22 of these have been withdrawn or dropped out for various reasons. In general, rTMS has been found tolerable with no serious AE. Only 2 patients dropped out of the study due to their intolerability to rTMS pulses. Conclusions Overall, the study with the same protocol is going as expected with no serious AE or any major protocol deviation. Abstract:Abstract Background Left hemispatial neglect (LHN) is a neuropsychological syndrome often associated with right hemispheric stroke. Patients with LHN have difficulties in attending, responding, and consciously representing the right side of space. Various rehabilitation protocols have been proposed to reduce clinical symptoms related to LHN, using cognitive treatments, or on non-invasive brain stimulation. However, evidence of their benefit is still lacking; in particular, only a few studies focused on the efficacy of combining different approaches in the same patient. Methods In the present study, we present the SMART ATLAS trial ( S timolazione MA gnetica R ipetitiva T ranscranica nell’ AT tenzione LA teralizzata dopo S troke), a multicenter, randomized, controlled trial with pre-test (baseline), post-test, and 12 weeks follow-up assessments based on a novel rehabilitation protocol based on the combination of brain stimulation and standard cognitive treatment. In particular, we will compare the efficacy of inhibitory repetitive-transcranial magnetic stimulation (r-TMS), applied over the left intact parietal cortex of LHN patients, followed by visual scanning treatment, in comparison with a placebo stimulation (SHAM control) followed by the same visual scanning treatment, on visuospatial symptoms and neurophysiological parameters of LHN in a population of stroke patients. Discussion Our trial results may provide scientific evidence of a new, relatively low-cost rehabilitation protocol for the treatment of LHN. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04080999 . Abstract:Background and purpose: Poststroke urinary incontinence (PSI) is prevalent in stroke survivors, and high-quality evidence is required to guide clinical practice. Previous studies have demonstrated the curative effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for urinary incontinence in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease (PD), and spinal cord injury (SCI). Here, we describe the protocol for a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of low-frequency rTMS on the contralesional primary motor cortex (M1) for the treatment of PSI. Methods and analysis: In this single-centre randomized controlled trial for poststroke urinary incontinence, a total of 140 eligible patients will be randomly allocated into two groups. The rTMS group (n = 70) will receive low-frequency rTMS at the M1 along with routine medical care, while the control group will receive sham rTMS along with routine medical care. All participants will undergo 20 treatment sessions, five times a week for 4 weeks. The primary outcome measures will be the changes in the urodynamic test at baseline versus 4 weeks after intervention. The secondary outcomes include the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF), Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS), and pelvic floor muscle function. Ethics and dissemination: The Institutional Review Board and Hospital Research Ethics Committee of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University approved this trial, and the approval number is No. 2020-153. All methods will be carried out in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and relevant ethical guidelines covering informed consent, confidentiality, and data storage. After the study had been thoroughly described to the participants by a physician, all participants will provide written informed consent indicating their willingness to participate. The results will be disseminated to most of the population, including participants, researchers, healthcare providers, and sponsors. Abstract:Introduction: Neurogenic bladder is frequently seen in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Electrical stimulation methods (neuromodulation) can be used for patients that have persistent symptoms despite pharmacological treatment. This study aims to compare the effects of two different neuromodulation techniques used in the treatment of neurogenic bladder. Methods and analysis: This is a single-center randomized controlled trial for MS patients with neurogenic bladder. Patients determined to be eligible according to the study criteria will be randomized into two treatment groups: the transcutaneous posterior tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) groups. Each group will include eight patients. The patients will be treated for a total of 10 sessions for two consecutive weeks. The pressure-flow study will be used to compare the initial and final urodynamic results as the primary outcome. All the participants will fill in a 3-day bladder diary before and after the treatments in each group. Patients will also be asked to complete specific questionnaires for incontinence and quality of life (QOL): Overactive Bladder Questionnaire-V8 score (OAB-V8), Incontinence Severity Index (ISI), Incontinence Quality of Life Scale score (I-QOL), International Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ-SF) score, and International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (ICIQ-FLUTS) score) as the secondary outcomes. Ethics and dissemination: An ethical approval number was obtained from the Non-Invasive Clinical Research Ethics Committee of Istanbul Medipol University (ethical approval number: 768). Support was received within the scope of the Istanbul Medipol University Scientific Research Project with project number 2020-2017. Abstract:Urinary incontinence is a common complication in stroke survivors for whom new interventions are needed. This study investigated the therapeutic effect of low-frequency (LF) repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the contralesional primary motor cortex (M1) in patients with poststroke urinary incontinence (PSI). A total of 100 patients were randomly assigned to the rTMS group or sham-rTMS group on basis of the intervention they received. Both groups underwent five treatment sessions per week for 4 weeks. Data from the urodynamic examination were used as the primary outcome. The secondary outcome measures were questionnaires and pelvic floor surface electromyography. After 4 weeks of intervention, the maximum cystometric capacity (MCC), maximum detrusor pressure (Pdet.max), residual urine output, overactive bladder score (OABSS) (including frequency, urgency, and urgency urinary incontinence), and the ICIQ-UI SF improved significantly in the rTMS group compared with those in the sham-rTMS group (P 0.05). Our data confirmed that 4 weeks of LF-rTMS stimulation on the contralateral M1 positively affects poststroke urinary incontinence in several aspects, such as frequency, urgency urinary incontinence, MCC, end-filling Pdet, OABSS, and ICIQ-UI SF scores.

Abstract:Neurogenic overactive bladder (OAB) is purported to result from damage to the central inhibitory pathways in the brain and spinal cord or peripheral afferent terminal sensitization in the bladder, which unmasks the primitive voiding reflex. Excitation of the pontine micturition center activates descending neural pathways to the spinal cord, resulting in sequential detrusor contraction and urethral relaxation. Damage to the central nervous system mechanism may disrupt normal micturition control, leading to involuntary micturition with concomitant detrusor overactivity. Low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), causing long-term depression of neuronal synaptic transmission, results in presynaptic neuron stimulation within several milliseconds after postsynaptic neuron stimulation. Low-frequency rTMS of the primary motor cortex may induce cortical inhibition via suppression of neural overactivity in descending projections, thereby reversing lower urinary tract symptoms by increasing pelvic floor tonicity and enhancing bladder capacity and bladder filling. Given the role of low-frequency rTMS in improving detrusor overactivity, we hypothesized that low-frequency active rTMS would inhibit cortical excitability and induce long-lasting neuroplastic changes to improve detrusor muscle function in stroke survivors with neurogenic OAB.

Abstract:Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an often debilitating disease affecting the myelin sheath that encompasses neurons. It can be accompanied by a myriad of pathologies and adverse effects such as neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD). Current treatment modalities for resolving NLUTD focus mainly on alleviating symptoms while the source of the discomfort emanates from a disruption in brain to bladder neural circuitry. Here, we leverage functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) protocols and the brains innate neural plasticity to aid in resolving overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms associated with NLUTD.

Abstract:Background: Both repetitive sacral root magnetic stimulation (rSMS) and transcutaneous posterior tibial nerve stimulation (TTNS) have demonstrated clinical benefits for lower urinary tract dysfunction. However it still remains unclear that which method is more effective and safer to treat neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO).Methods: From December 2020 to December 2021, 50 patients (31 men and 19 women, aged 47.9±12.4 years) with NDO secondary to suprasacral spinal cord injury (SCI) were enrolled and randomly allocated to the rSMS or TTNS group based on a computer-generated random numbers table. The stimulation was applied continuously 5 times per week for 20 sessions. Urodynamic test was conducted at baseline and the day after the final 20th treatment session. The primary outcome was the individual change (Δ) in maximum cystometric capacity (MCC) from baseline to post-treatment. Secondary outcomes included changes (Δ) for the following parameters: volume at 1st involuntary detrusor contraction (1st IDCV), maximal detrusor pressure (Pdetmax), bladder compliance (BC), postvoid residual (PVR) volume, and bladder voiding efficiency (BVE). Additionally, adverse reactions including pain and skin irritation during stimulation were observed and recorded as safety outcomes.Results: Finally 47 patients completed the study (23 in rSMS and 24 in TTNS group). A per-protocol (PP) analysis was performed, and Mann-Whitney U test and unpaired t-test were used for statistical analysis. Compared with the efficacy of TTNS, rSMS showed statistically greater ΔMCC [median +43 mL (IQR, 22-62 mL) vs. +20 mL (IQR, 15-25 mL), P=0.001, with a between-group difference of +22 mL (95% CI: +7 to +35 mL)] and ΔBVE [median +10.0% (IQR, 3.8-15.7%) vs. +3.5% (IQR, 0.0-7.8%), P=0.003, with a between-group difference of +5.9% (95% CI: +1.2% to +9.7%)]. No significant differences were found in Δ1st IDCV (P=0.40), ΔPdetmax (P=0.67), ΔBC (P=0.79) and ΔPVR (P=0.92) between the two groups. Meanwhile, patients exhibited high tolerance to both protocols, and no adverse reactions were observed.Conclusions: RSMS may be more effective to improve urodynamics in the treatment for NDO than TTNS, cause it led to a statistical improvement in bladder capacity and voiding efficiency, without any side effects. Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a wearable, smartphone‐controlled, rechargeable transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (TTNS) device in patients with overactive bladder (OAB). Patients and Methods This multicentre, prospective, single‐blind, randomised clinical trial included eligible patients with OAB symptoms who were randomly assigned to the stimulation group or sham group. The primary efficacy outcome was change from baseline in voiding frequency/24 h after 4 weeks of treatment. Abstract:Abstract Background Neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD) is a prevalent complication among stroke patients, significantly affecting their quality of life, duration of hospitalization, medical expenses, and even mortality. Although current guidelines suggest a conservative strategy for addressing bowel dysfunction, which includes techniques such as digital rectal stimulation (DRS) and abdominal massage, the availability of interventions remains limited in healthcare facilities. Methods This study follows a prospective randomized controlled parallel-group clinical trial design. The control group will receive standard care, while the intervention group will undergo a program that combines DRS and abdominal massage in addition to standard care. The duration of the intervention for both groups will be 6 weeks. The primary outcome measures will be the Wexner score. Furthermore, secondary outcomes measure will be assessed, including Bristol score, Patient Assessment of Constipation-Quality of Life (PAC-QoL), and Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life (FI-QoL). Discussion This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a bowel rehabilitation program for stroke patients with NBD. The findings will provide information that can contribute to the formulation of bowel management strategies. Trial registration The study has been registered in the Chinese Clinical Registry under the number ChiCTR2300071709. This registration was completed on May 23, 2023. Abstract:Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can improve postural control in subacute and chronic ischemic stroke, but further research is needed to investigate the effect of rTMS on acute ischemic stroke. Objective: We compared the therapeutic effects of rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation and conventional rehabilitation on postural control in patients with mild hemiparesis in acute ischemic stroke. Methods: Eighty-six patients with acute ischemic stroke were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group within 1-7 days of onset. Patients in both groups received conventional rehabilitation for 2 weeks. Patients in the experimental group received rTMS treatments lasting for 2 weeks. Before and after the 2-week treatment, patients were assessed based on the Timed up and Go (TUG) test, Dual-Task Walking (DTW) test, Functional Ambulation Category (FAC), Tinetti Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment (POMA), gait kinematic parameters, Barthel Index (BI), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Additionally, TUG and single-task gait velocity were assessed at 2 months after the start of treatment, and independent walking recovery was also followed up. Results: After 2 weeks of treatment, compared to conventional rehabilitation, participants who underwent rTMS treatment plus conventional rehabilitation exhibited notable enhancements in TUG, FAC, POMA, and some gait parameters [single-task gait velocity, gait stride length, gait cadence, gait cycle]. Changes in cognitive function partially mediated the improvement in single-task gait velocity and gait stride length by rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation. Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) analysis showed that the trend of improvement in single-task gait velocity over time was more pronounced in the experimental group than in the control group. The results of the Kaplan-Meier curve indicated a median gait recovery time of 90 days for patients in the experimental group and 100 days for the control group. Multifactorial Cox regression analyses showed that rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation promoted faster recovery of independent walking compared with conventional rehabilitation. Conclusion: rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation outperformed conventional rehabilitation in improving postural control in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Improvements in cognitive function may serve as a mediating factor in the favorable treatment outcome of rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation for improving postural control. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for upper limb motor function and activities of daily living in patients with stroke: a protocol of a systematic review and Bayesian network meta-analysis

Abstract:Introduction Patients with stroke usually suffer from varying degrees of movement dysfunction, which seriously affects their quality of life, especially for the upper limb dysfunction. Therefore, this study aims to compare the effects of different repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) modalities on upper limb motor function and daily activities in patients with stroke. Methods and analysis Relevant research will be collected systematically from PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, Wanfang Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Chinese Scientific and Journal Database (VIP) about randomised controlled trials of rTMS in the stroke treatment range from the establishment to November 2020. Primary outcomes will be obtained from scales measuring the upper limb motor function like Upper Extremity Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scale, Wolf Motor Function Test, Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test, Action Research Arm Test and Box and Block Test. The secondary outcomes include modified Barthel Index and adverse events (such as vertigo, headache and epilepsy), with the goal of assessing patients’ activities of daily living and the safety of treatment. In order to avoid personal bias in the included studies, two reviewers will conduct the data extraction and quality evaluation independently, and all data analyses will be performed by Generate Mixed Treatment comparison software V.0.14.3 and Stata V.16.0. Ethics and dissemination The network meta-analysis (NMA) in this study does not require ethical approval because the data analysis will be used only to evaluate the rTMS treatment efficacy without patients’ private information. In addition, the results will be disseminated in international conference reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts. PROSPERO registration number CRD42020212253.

Abstract:We report on a dc/RF performance of lattice-strained AlInN/GaN high-electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) on SiC substrate. HEMT devices were fabricated with gate periphery of 2 × 150 μm with an 80-nm T-gate and ~2.5-μm source-drain spacing. Fabricated devices simultaneously demonstrated up to 2.11 A/mm with ft-ext = 104 GHz and ft-int = 113 GHz. The high performance is attributed to the combination of low Rsh ~ 230 Ω/sq (μ ~ 1079 cm2/V · s, ns ~ 2.39 × 1013 cm-2) and thin ~110-Å total barrier thickness with a short gate length. Other device parameters include Rc = 0.29 Ω · mm, Ig,leak = 27.9 μA/mm, gm,peak = 432 mS/mm, and Vth = -5.8 V. To our knowledge, this is among the highest current densities reported for any HEMT operating with a unity current gain frequency exceeding 100 GHz.
Reduction of Overactive Bladder Medications in Spinal Cord Injury With Self-Administered Neuromodulation: A Randomized Trial

Abstract:Purpose: Our goal was to evaluate if self-administered bladder neuromodulation with transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation could safely replace overactive bladder medications in people with spinal cord injury. Materials and methods: We performed a 3-month, randomized, investigator-blinded, tibial nerve stimulation vs sham-control trial in adults with spinal cord injury and neurogenic bladder performing intermittent catheterization and taking overactive bladder medications. The primary outcome was a reduction in bladder medications while maintaining stable bladder symptoms and quality of life based on pre/post Neurogenic Bladder Symptom Score and the Incontinence Quality of Life questionnaire, respectively. Secondary outcomes included changes in pre/post cystometrogram, 2-day voiding diaries, and an anticholinergic medication side effect survey. Results: Fifty people consented to the study, with 42 completing the trial. No dropouts were due to stimulation issues. All baseline demographics and surveys were comparable at baseline. Cystometrogram parameters were also comparable at baseline, except the stimulation group had a higher proportion of loss of bladder compliance compared to the control group. At the end of the trial, a significantly greater percentage of the tibial nerve stimulation group was able to reduce medications (95% vs 68%), by a 26.2% difference in medication reduction (95% CI 1.17%-51.2%). Function and quality of life surveys and cystometrograms at the end of the trial were alike between groups. Transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation satisfaction surveys and adherence to protocol were high. Conclusions: In people with chronic spinal cord injury performing intermittent catheterization, transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation can be an option to reduce or replace overactive bladder medications. Abstract:Introduction: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic pain condition creating a wide range of urologic and pain symptoms. There is currently limited evidence to understand the mechanisms of IC/BPS. There have been recent studies suggesting that altered function in brain motor areas, particularly the supplementary motor cortex (SMA), relates to altered bladder sensorimotor control and may play an important role in IC/BPS. This study aims to provide evidence that non-invasive stimulation targeting the motor cortex may help reduce IC/BPS pain, as well as better understand the neural mechanism by which this stimulation targets neuromuscular dysfunction. This study is a two-group quadruple-blinded randomized controlled trial (RCT) of active vs. sham repetitive transmagnetic stimulation (rTMS). In addition, our study will also include functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), pelvic floor electromyography (EMG), pelvic exam, and outcome measures and questionnaires to further study outcomes. Ethics and dissemination: All aspects of the study were approved by the Institutional Review Board of the University of Southern California (protocol HS-20-01021). All participants provided informed consent by the research coordinator/assistants. The results will be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and disseminated at scientific conferences. Abstract:We report results of a large multisite double-blind randomized trial investigating the short and long-term efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) applied to patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) at mild to moderate stages, in doses of either 2 or 4 weeks of treatment (5 days/week), whilst compared with 4 weeks of sham rTMS. Randomization to treatment group was stratified based on age and severity. The objectives of this study were to: 1) investigate the efficacy of active rTMS versus sham, 2) investigate the effect of dose of treatment (2 or 4 weeks), and 3) investigate the length of benefits from treatment. The rTMS pulses (20 Hz, 30 pulses/train, 25 trains, 10-s intertrain interval) were applied serially to the left and right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex using neuro-navigation. We compared the primary outcome measure's (ADAS-Cog) score changes from pre- to post-treatment, with assessments at baseline and 4 more times up to 6 months post-treatment. Data of 135 patients were analyzed. The mean total ADAS-Cog score at baseline did not differ between the active and sham treatment groups, nor across the three study sites. The overall results show significant cognitive improvement after treatment up to two months post-treatment with either sham or active coils. The results show both short and long-term benefits of active rTMS treatment but also show similar benefits for sham coil treatment of mild/moderate AD. We discuss this finding in the context of the existing literature on rTMS therapy for AD, as well as evidence of the sham coil's potential to induce a low-level current in the brain. Abstract:Introduction: Intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS), a novel mode of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), has curative effects on patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). However, whether iTBS will be more applicable in clinical use than conventional high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is unknown. Our study aims to compare the difference in effect between iTBS and rTMS in treating PSCI based on a randomized controlled trial, as well as to determine its safety and tolerability, and to further explore the underlying neural mechanism. Methods: The study protocol is designed as a single-center, double-blind, randomized controlled trial. Forty patients with PSCI will be randomly assigned to two different TMS groups, one with iTBS and the other with 5 Hz rTMS. Neuropsychological evaluation, activities of daily living, and resting electroencephalography will be conducted before treatment, immediately post-treatment, and 1 month after iTBS/rTMS stimulation. The primary outcome is the change in the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Beijing Version (MoCA-BJ) score from baseline to the end of the intervention (D11). The secondary outcomes comprise changes in resting electroencephalogram (EEG) indexes from baseline to the end of the intervention (D11) as well as the Auditory Verbal Learning Test, the symbol digit modality test, the Digital Span Test findings, and the MoCA-BJ scores from baseline to endpoint (W6). Discussion: In this study, the effects of iTBS and rTMS will be evaluated using cognitive function scales in patients with PSCI as well as data from resting EEG, which allows for an in-depth exploration of underlying neural oscillations. In the future, these results may contribute to the application of iTBS for cognitive rehabilitation of patients with PSCI.
