Abstract:To construct a nonlinear fractional-order neural network reflecting the complex environment of the real world, this paper considers the common factors such as uncertainties, perturbations, and delays that affect the stability of the network system. In particular, not only does the activation function include multiple time delays, but the memristive connection weights also consider transmission delays. Stemming from the characteristics of neural networks, two different types of discontinuous controllers with state information and sign functions are devised to effectuate network synchronization objectives. Combining the finite-time convergence criterion and the theory of fractional-order calculus, Mittag-Leffler synchronization conditions for fractional-order multi-delayed memristive neural networks (FMMNNs) are derived, and the upper bound of the setting time can be confirmed. Unlike previous jobs, this article focuses on applying different inequality techniques in the synchronous analysis process, rather than comparison principles to manage the multi-delay effects. In addition, this study removes the restrictive requirement that the activation function has a zero value at the switching jumps, and the discontinuous control protocol in this paper makes the networks achieve synchronization over a finite time, with some advantages in terms of the convergence speed.

Abstract:The quandary posed by the conflicting goals of valid selection and a diverse workforce is one of the most perplexing problems facing the practice of personnel selection today. To help address the issue, the article presents a comprehensive method and a related computer program to estimate the expected adverse impact and the expected quality of the majority, the minority and the total selected work force. Compared to previous related procedures, the present method is much more general as it can address situations with both multiple predictor and multiple criterion dimensions. In addition, the expected effects can be computed given the overall selection ratio and the estimates are derived analytically and, hence, are accurate. To assist the selection practitioner, the method is made available as a free download from the Internet.

Abstract:This paper addresses global stabilization of fractional-order memristor-based neural networks (FMNNs) with incommensurate orders and multiple time-varying delays (MTDs), where the time delay functions are not necessarily bounded. First, without assuming that time delay functions are bounded, the asymptotical stability condition is given for fractional-order linear positive system with incommensurate orders and MTDs. Then, comparison principle for such a system is established. By virtue of two kinds of vector Lyapunov functions (absolute-value-function-based and square-function-based vector Lyapunov functions), stability condition of fractional-order linear positive system and comparison principle, two stabilization criteria are derived and the equivalence between them is illustrated. In comparison with the reported criterion, the criteria derived in this paper are less conservative, since they allow controller parameters to satisfy weaker algebraic conditions. Lastly, numerical examples are displayed to validate the availability of the controller and correctness of the stabilization criteria.

Abstract:We focused on the quasi-projective synchronization (QPS) and finite-time synchronization (FNTS) for a class of fractional-order memristive complex-valued delay neural networks (FOMCVDNNs). Rather than decomposing the complex-valued system into its real and imaginary components, we adopted a more streamlined approach by introducing a lemma associated with the complex-valued sign function. This innovative technique enabled us to design a simpler discontinuous controller. Then, based on the finite-time Lemma, measurable selection theorem, Lyapunov function theory, properties of the Mittag-Leffler function, and the fractional-order Razumikhin theorem, various substantial results were derived using a novel hybrid control scheme. In conclusion, we presented numerical simulations to illustrate the practical effectiveness of our theoretical findings.

Abstract:This paper discusses the finite-time synchronization (FTS) of fractional-order memristive neural networks (FMNNs) with time-varying delays. Firstly, based on Gronwall–Bellman inequality and the fractional-order derivative of the power function, two novel propositions on finite-time fractional functional differential inequality are built. Secondly, the feedback controller and intermittent controller designed in this paper are all delay-independent controllers, which can work even when the prior state cannot be measured or the specific time delay function is unknown. Thirdly, in addition to the traditional Lyapunov function with absolute value form, a more general and flexile Lyapunov function based on p-norm form is constructed to analyze the criteria of FTS. Meanwhile, an improved estimation of settling time of fractional system is given explicitly, which is more accurate and general than the existing results. Eventually, the validity of theoretical analysis is confirmed by numerical examples.

Abstract:In this paper, a simplified memristor-based fractional-order neural network (MFNN) with discontinuous memductance function is proposed. It is essentially a switched system with irregular switching laws and consists of eight fractional-order neural network (FNN) subsystems. The nonlinear dynamics of the simplified MFNN including equilibrium points and their stability, bifurcation and chaos is investigated analytically and numerically. In particular, the effect of the switching jump on the dynamics of the simplified MFNN is explored for the first time. Taking the fractional order, the memristive connection weight or the switching jump as the bifurcation parameter, the dynamics such as chaotic motion, tangent bifurcation and intermittent chaos is identified over a wide range of some specified parameter. It can be seen that the incorporation of the memristors greatly improves and enriches the dynamics of the corresponding FNN. Different from the period-doubling route to chaos, this paper reveals that the mechanism behind the emergence of chaos for the simplified MFNN is the intermittency route to chaos. In particular, for some typical parameter, the existence of chaotic attractors is verified with the phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams, Poincaré sections and maximum Lyapunov exponents, respectively. This paper not only provides a way of designing chaotic MFNN with discontinuous memductance function but also suggests a possible method of generating more complicated chaotic attractors, such as multi-scroll or multi-wing attractors.

Abstract:The stability and stabilization problems of fractional-order memristive neural networks with time-varying delays are addressed. Based on Jensen-based integral inequalities, novel delay-dependent and order-dependent stability conditions for fractional-order memristive neural networks with time-varying delays are established. The proposed stability criterion is in terms of linear matrix inequalities and is easy to be verified and applied. Then, a linear feedback control law that stabilizes fractional-order memristive neural networks with time-varying delays is designed by utilizing the obtained stability conditions. Two numerical examples are used to illustrate the effectiveness and less conservativeness of the proposed results.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the stability of fractional-order neural networks (FNNs) without and with delay by the fractional Lyapunov direct method and the fractional Razumikhin-type theorem, respectively. S-procedure is applied to handle the nonlinear constraints to obtain a wider parameter selection of the systems. For FNNs without delay, the improved less conservative conditions of the existence and uniqueness of the equilibrium point and the global Mittag-Leffler stability are all derived in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Moreover, an LMI-based uniform stability condition of FNNs with time delay is established, which simplifies and extends some previous work. Finally, the validity of the presented results is indicated by some numerical examples.

Abstract:This paper studies the stabilizability and instabilizability problems for delayed complex-valued memristive neural networks within finite-time intervals. First, more general assumptions for complex-valued activation functions are given. To check that whether the closed-loop system is stable within a finite-time interval, a novel nonlinear delayed controller with separable real-imaginary parts is designed. It includes two independent parameters different from the existing ones, which makes the controller more general but also leads to great difficulties. To overcome these difficulties, two new inequalities are proposed and proved. Then, through Lyapunov function approach, sufficient conditions are derived for the finite-time stabilizability of the closed-loop system and the settling time is estimated. Accordingly, some criteria for the finite-time instabilizability are also established by adjusting different parameters in the designed controller. Finally, several numerical simulations are given to show the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed results.

Abstract:We describe a gas-density gauge based on the analysis of the thermally-driven fluctuations of an atomic force microscope (AFM) cantilever. The fluctuations are modeled as a ring-down of a simple harmonic oscillator, which allows fitting of the resonance frequency and damping of the cantilever, which in turn yields the gas density. The pressure is obtained from the density using the known equation of state. In the range 10-220 kPa, the pressure readings from the cantilever gauge deviate by an average of only about 5% from pressure readings on a commercial gauge. The theoretical description we use to determine the pressure from the cantilever motion is based upon the continuum hypothesis, which sets a minimum pressure for our analysis. It is anticipated that the cantilever gauge could be extended to measure lower pressures given a molecular theoretical description. Alternatively, the gauge could be calibrated for use in the non-continuum range. Our measurement technique is similar to previous AFM cantilever measurements, but the analysis produces improved accuracy.

Abstract:Global asymptotic stability and synchronization of a class of fractional-order memristor-based delayed neural networks are investigated. For such problems in integer-order systems, Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is usually constructed, whereas similar method has not been well developed for fractional-order nonlinear delayed systems. By employing a comparison theorem for a class of fractional-order linear systems with time delay, sufficient condition for global asymptotic stability of fractional memristor-based delayed neural networks is derived. Then, based on linear error feedback control, the synchronization criterion for such neural networks is also presented. Numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:The fractional competitive neural networks (FCNNs) with multiple restrictions are considered in this article. Specially, the FCNNs with memristors and time-varying delays in complex field (FCMCNNs) are first introduced, as well as the asymptotic stability (AS) and quantitative synchronization (QTS) issues are investigated. Firstly, applying Filippov's conclusion theory, a model of FCMCNNs is reduced to a simpler one containing the time-switching memristive coefficients. Secondly, in virtue of the Banach fixed-point theorem, the AS is sufficiently discussed. Thirdly, in the light of the quantized controller (QTC), some concise inequality criteria are drawn to attain the QTS of the master–slave systems. Lastly, by providing two simulation examples, the results obtained manifest the availability and practicality.

Abstract:The Mittag–Leffler stability and stabilization of delayed fractional-order memristive neural networks(DFMNNs) are investigated in this paper. First, two new fractional Halanay inequalities are established by solving two fractional-order non-autonomous differential inequalities. Next, by using the proposed fractional Halanay inequalities, a novel Razumikhin-type theorem for Mittag–Leffler stability of delayed fractional-order systems is presented, which is an extension of the so-called Razumikhin theorem for integer-order delayed differential systems. Applying the Razumikhin-type theorem to the DFMNNs, several Mittag–Leffler stability and stabilization criteria are obtained. Finally, the validity of the proposed results is shown by two numerical examples.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the finite-time synchronization (FTS) of memristor-based fractional order Cohen-Grossberg neural networks (MFCGNNs) with time-varying delays. Under the frame of fractional order differential inclusion and set-valued map, some new sufficient conditions to guarantee the FTS of MFCGNNs are established by means of constructing two different Lyapunov functions based on L1-norm in Theorem 1 and Lp-norm in Theorem 2. Via applying the asymptotic expansion property of Mittag-Leffler function, we propose a new estimation method of the settling time for synchronization which is less conservative than previous researches. Meanwhile, we deeply discuss the influence factor of settling time for synchronization. Finally, two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of obtained results.

Abstract:Mittag–Leffler stability is a property of fractional-order dynamical systems, also called fractional Lyapunov stability, requiring the evolution of the positive-definite functions to be Mittag–Leffler, rather than the exponential meaning in Lyapunov stability theory. Similarly, fractional Lyapunov function plays an important role in the study of Mittag–Leffler stability. The aim of this study is to create closed-loop systems for commensurate fractional-order non-linear systems (FONSs) with Mittag–Leffler stability. We extend the classical backstepping to fractional-order backstepping for stabilising (uncertain) FONSs. For this purpose, several conditions of control fractional Lyapunov functions for FONSs are investigated in terms of Mittag–Leffler stability. Within this framework, (uncertain) FONSs Mittag–Leffler stabilisation is solved via fractional-order backstepping and the global convergence of closed-loop systems is guaranteed. Finally, the efficiency and applicability of the proposed fractional-order backstepping are demonstrated in several examples.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the finite-time projective synchronization problem of fractional-order memristive neural networks (FMNNs) with mixed time-varying delays. Firstly, under the frame of fractional-order differential inclusion and the set-valued map, several criteria are derived to ensure finite-time projective synchronization of FMNNs. Meanwhile, three properties are established to deal with different forms of the finite-time fractional differential inequation, which greatly extend some results on estimation of settling time of FMNNs. In addition to the traditional Lyapunov function with 1-norm form in Theorem 1, a more general and flexible Lyapunov function based on p-norm is constructed in Theorem 2 to analyze the finite-time projective synchronization problem, and the estimation of settling time has been verified less conservative than previous results. Finally, numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the derived theoretical results.

Abstract:We are concerned in this paper with the stability and bifurcation problems for three-neuron-based bi-directional associative memory neural networks that are involved with time delays in transmission terms and possess Caputo fractional derivatives of non-commensurate orders. For the fractional bi-directional associative memory neural networks that are dealt with in this paper, we view the time delays as the bifurcation parameters. Via a standard contraction mapping argument, we establish the existence and uniqueness of the state trajectories of the investigated fractional bi-directional associative memory neural networks. By utilizing the idea and technique of linearization, we analyze the influence of time delays on the dynamical behavior of the investigated neural networks, as well as establish and prove several stability/bifurcation criteria for the neural networks dealt with in this paper. According to each of our established criteria, the equilibrium states of the investigated fractional bi-directional associative memory neural networks are asymptotically stable when some of the time delays are less than strictly specific positive constants, i.e., when the thresholds or the bifurcation points undergo Hopf bifurcation in the concerned networks at the aforementioned threshold constants. In the meantime, we provide several illustrative examples to numerically and visually validate our stability and bifurcation results. Our stability and bifurcation theoretical results in this paper yield some insights into the cause mechanism of the bifurcation phenomena for some other complex phenomena, and this is extremely helpful for the design of feedback control to attenuate or even to remove such complex phenomena in the dynamics of fractional bi-directional associative memory neural networks with time delays.

Abstract:Unlike existing memristive neural networks or fuzzy neural networks, this article investigates a class of Caputo fractional-order uncertain memristive neural networks (CFUMNNs) with fuzzy operators and transmission delay to realistically model complex environments. Especially, the fuzzy symbol AND and the fuzzy symbol OR as well as nonlinear activation behaviors are all concerned in the generalized master-slave networks. Based on the characteristics of the neural networks being studied, we have designed distinctive information feedback control protocols including three different functional sub-modules. Combining comparative theorems, inequality techniques, and stability theory, novel delay-independent conditions can be derived to ensure the finite-time synchronization (FTS) of fuzzy CFUMNNs. Besides, the upper bound of the settling time can be effectively evaluated based on feedback coefficients and control parameters, which makes the achievements of this study more practical for engineering applications such as signal encryption and secure communications. Ultimately, simulation experiments show the feasibility of the derived results.

Abstract:Neurodynamic system is an emerging research field. To understand the essential motivational representations of neural activity, neurodynamics is an important question in cognitive system research. This paper is to investigate Mittag-Leffler stability of a class of fractional-order neural networks in the presence of generalized piecewise constant arguments. To identify neural types of computational principles in mathematical and computational analysis, the existence and uniqueness of the solution of neurodynamic system is the first prerequisite. We prove that the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the network holds when some conditions are satisfied. In addition, self-active neurodynamic system demands stable internal dynamical states (equilibria). The main emphasis will be then on several sufficient conditions to guarantee a unique equilibrium point. Furthermore, to provide deeper explanations of neurodynamic process, Mittag-Leffler stability is studied in detail. The established results are based on the theories of fractional differential equation and differential equation with generalized piecewise constant arguments. The derived criteria improve and extend the existing related results.
