Abstract:In the presence of phosphine oxides, specifically triphenylphosphine oxide (<b>P14</b>), the cobalt-catalyzed hydroformylation of olefins takes place under mild conditions compared to traditional processes. It is shown that the addition of <b>P14</b> dramatically improves the preactivation of the classic cobalt precatalyst, thus saving time and energy. In addition, we show that anisole, a solvent with a high sustainability rank, can be used advantageously in such processes. The Supporting Information is available free of charge at <a class="ext-link" href="/doi/10.1021/acssuschemeng.1c00205?goto=supporting-info">https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acssuschemeng.1c00205</a>.General method for the preparation of phosphine oxides; general procedure for kinetic measurements; evaluation of different amounts of <b>P14</b> in the hydroformylation of 1-octene; characterization data; 1H, 13C, and 31P spectra of P5−P13.
