Abstract:Series of BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+,Mn2+(BAM) Blue-green emitting phosphors were synthesized by solid-state reaction and X-ray powder diffraction(XRD) analysis confirmed the formation of BAM.The emission spectra of the co-doped BAM samples showed intense blue(455 nm) and green(525 nm) emission peaks.The emission peaks was at 455 nm originating from the transition 5d→4f of Eu2+ ions partially replaces Ba2+ sites in BAM,while the 525 nm emission was attributed to the energy transfer from Eu2+ to Mn2+.White LED was fabricated by combining with NUV LED chip(GaN-based 380 nm emitting),with Eu2+,Mn2+-codoped BAM and a red phosphor of Ca(La0.5Eu0.5)4Si3O13.Under the forward bias current of 20 mA,white LED with characteristics of color rendering index of 88 is obtained.
Highly Regular, Uniform K3ScF6:Mn4+ Phosphors: Facile Synthesis, Microstructures, Photoluminescence Properties, and Application in Light-Emitting Diode Devices

Abstract:A new generation of red phosphors of complex fluoride matrices activated with Mn4+ has gained a broad interest in getting high color quality and low color temperature of solid-state white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). However, besides their instability toward moisture, the extremely irregular and nonuniform morphologies of these phosphors have limited their practical industry applications. In the present study, a novel type of K3ScF6:Mn4+ red phosphor with highly regular, uniform, and high color purity was obtained successfully through a facile coprecipitation route under mild conditions. The crystal structure was identified with aids of the powder X-ray diffraction, Rietveld refinement, and density functional theory calculations. The prototype crystallizes in the space group Fm3 m with a cubic structure, and the lattice parameters are fitted well to be a = b = c = 8.4859(8) Å and V = 611.074(2) Å3. The Mn4+ ions occupy Sc3+ sites and locate at the centers of the distorted ScF6 octahedrons. A wide band gap of approximately 6.15 eV can provide sufficient space to accommodate impurity energy levels. Unlike most other Mn4+ ion-activated fluoride phosphors, the as-prepared K3ScF6:Mn4+ phosphors demonstrate highly uniform and regular morphologies with shapes transforming from cube to octahedron with increasing Mn4+ ion concentration. Under blue light excitation, the as-prepared K3ScF6:Mn4+ sample exhibits intense sharp-line red fluorescence (the strongest peak located at 631 nm) with high color purity. An excellent recovery in luminescence upon heating and cooling processes implies high stability of K3ScF6:Mn4+. Furthermore, a warm WLED fabricated with blue GaN chips merged with the mixture of K3ScF6:Mn4+ and the well-known commercial YAG:Ce3+ yellow phosphors exhibits wonderful color quality with lower correlated color temperature (3250 K) and higher color-rendering index ( Ra = 86.4). These results suggest that the K3ScF6:Mn4+ phosphor possesses stupendous potentiality for practical applications.

A Novel Red-Emitting Na2NbOF5:Mn4+ Phosphor with Ultrahigh Color Purity for Warm White Lighting and Wide-Gamut Backlight Displays

Abstract:In this work, a novel red-emitting oxyfluoride phosphor Na2NbOF5:Mn4+ with an ultra-intense zero-phonon line (ZPL) was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method. The phase composition and luminescent properties of Na2NbOF5:Mn4+ were studied in detail. The photoluminescence excitation spectrum contains two intense excitation bands centered at 369 and 470 nm, which match well with commercial UV and blue light-emitting diode (LED) chips. When excited by 470 nm blue light, Na2NbOF5:Mn4+ exhibits red light emission dominated by ZPL. Notably, the color purity of the Na2NbOF5:Mn4+ red phosphor can reach 99.9%. Meanwhile, the Na2NbOF5:Mn4+ phosphor has a shorter fluorescence decay time than commercial K2SiF6:Mn4+, which is conducive to fast switching of images in display applications. Profiting from the intense ZPL, white light-emitting diode (WLED) with high color rendering index of Ra = 86.2 and low correlated color temperature of Tc = 3133 K is realized using yellow YAG:Ce3+ and red Na2NbOF5:Mn4+ phosphor. The WLED fabricated using CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) and red Na2NbOF5:Mn4+ phosphor shows a wide color gamut of 127.56% NTSC (National Television Standard Committee). The results show that red-emitting Na2NbOF5:Mn4+ phosphor has potential application prospects in WLED lighting and display backlight.

Abstract:Red phosphor is indispensable to achieve warm white light in the white light diode (WLED) application. However, the current red phosphors suffer from high cost and harsh synthesis conditions. In this study, an oxide-based rare-earth-free red-emitting phosphor Li3Mg2NbO6:Mn4+ (LMN:Mn4+) has been successfully synthesized by a simple solid-state reaction method. The relationship between crystal structure and luminescence was investigated in detail. The site occupancy of the doping Mn4+ ion in the LMN host has been discussed from the point of bond valence sum. How the coordination environment of doping Mn4+ affects the energy level of doping Mn4+ ion has been illustrated via the Tanabe-Sugano energy-level diagram. Moreover, warm white light has been obtained using LMN:Mn4+ as compensator to the YAG:Ce3+.

Abstract:Background: The perceptions of core professional nursing values of men in baccalaureate nursing programs are poorly understood. Objective: The study purpose was to understand and interpret the meaning of core professional nursing values to male baccalaureate nursing students. Research design and context: One-to-one interviews were conducted with male nursing students from a public university in the Midwest, following interpretive phenomenology. Ethical considerations: Measures to protect participants included obtaining Institutional Review Board approval, obtaining signed informed consent, and maintaining confidentiality. Findings: The study revealed five themes and several subthemes under an overarching finding of caring. Acquisition of professional nursing values began prior to the nursing program and continued to varying degrees throughout the program. Discussion: Several implications are offered for nursing education, nursing practice, research, and public policy. These include identification of common values, teaching-learning strategies, inclusive environments, teamwork, and conflict resolution. Conclusion: Caring was revealed using a metaphor of a puzzle.

Abstract:Non-rare-earth Mn4+-activated red-emitting oxide phosphors have emerged as potential alternatives of typical Eu2+ doped nitrides owing to broad-band absorption, narrow-band emission, high color purity and low cost. In this work, highly efficient CaAl12O19:Mn4+ microspheres with uniform size distributions were first prepared by combining an epoxide-driven sol-gel method with heat treatment in oxygen atmosphere. The spherical morphology is beneficial to reduce scattering of light to enhance the photoluminescence of the phosphor. This phosphor shows red emission attributed to Mn4+: 2Eg → 4A2g spin-forbidden transition in the range of 600~750 nm under excitation at 340 nm. Partitioning Mg2+ in the host was found to enhance Mn4+ luminescence because of charge balance effect and the proposed mechanisms were discussed. The luminescence quantum yield of CaAl11.7576O19:0.0024Mn4+, 0.24Mg2+ microspheres which were heat treated for 4 h at 1300 °C was measured to be 56.1%. The white LED device based on the glass ceramic containing phosphors was found to show a high-color-rendering index of 96 and a low correlated color temperature of 4522 K. The results indicate that CaAl12O19:Mn4+ microspheres have great potential for near-ultraviolet LEDs on full-spectrum lighting.
K2SiF6:Mn4+ red-luminescent crystals with high external quantum efficiency (EQEmax of 78%) and high thermal quenching temperature (T1/2 > 500 K) enabling high brightness warm white LEDs

Abstract:Mn4+-activated fluoride phosphor is one of the crucial red-emitting phosphors for white lighting systems driven by light-emitting diodes (LEDs). In this study, we successfully synthesized high-quality K2Si1-xF6:xMn4+ (x = 0.03–0.70) crystals, measuring approximately 1 mm in size, through a new cooling-induced crystallization method. These crystals exhibit narrow line-type photoluminescence emission bands and exceptional optical properties, including high absorption efficiency up to 93.5% and external quantum efficiency up to 68.9%, which are among the record values for Mn4+-doped fluoride phosphors. Furthermore, they exhibit a notably elevated luminescence thermal quenching temperature (T1/2) exceeding 500 K. A comprehensive investigation into the phase transformation, zero-phonon line tuning, and fluorescence decay behavior as a function of increasing Mn concentrations was also conducted. Practical applications were demonstrated through the fabrication of warm white LEDs, integrating a blue LED with garnet yellow phosphor and the as-synthesized K2Si1-xF6:xMn4+ (nominal x of 0.20) crystals as the red component. The white LEDs exhibit an impressive luminous efficacy of 192.1 lm·W−1, a color rendering index of Ra = 87.5 and R9 = 62 under a 20 mA driving current. Our study highlights the outstanding properties of Mn4+-doped fluoride crystals with bulk size rather than conventional powdery form and the potential of the cooling-induced crystallization method for cultivating the crystals.

Abstract:Novel eye-sensitive Ba 3 Nb 2 O 2 F 12 (H 2 O) 2 :Tb 3+ green and Ba 3 Nb 2 O 2 F 12 (H 2 O) 2 :Mn 4+ red oxyfluoride phosphors with extremely strong absorption in the UV region were designed and synthesized by simple co-precipitation strategy. Particularly, Tb 3+ ions were doped in this matrix for the first time, which greatly improves their absorption efficiency in the near ultraviolet region (367 nm) and emits sharp green light (544 nm). In addition, the Ba 3 Nb 2 O 2 F 12 (H 2 O) 2 :Mn 4+ red phosphors have strong zero phonon line (ZPL) emission at 625 nm, which is conducive to improving the sensitivity of human eye and color purity. Meanwhile, the optical properties of the red phosphor are significantly enhanced via doping K + cations as charge compensators. Crystal field environment and nephelauxetic effect of the as-prepared phosphors before and after K + cation doping were systematically analyzed. Moreover, these synthesized red/green phosphors have good thermal stability and moisture resistance. Remarkably, the as-prepared Ba 3 Nb 2 O 2 F 12 (H 2 O) 2 :5%Mn 4+ or K 0.9 Ba 2.1 Nb 2 O 2 F 12 (H 2 O) 2 :5%Mn 4+ red phosphors can be directly mixed with the as-synthesized Ba 3 Nb 2 O 2 F 12 (H 2 O) 2 :13 %Tb 3+ green phosphor coating on 365 nm near-ultraviolet LED chip to package WLED devices with excellent electroluminescence performance. These findings are conducive to opening an avenue for screening the unique structure of optical materials.

Abstract:Based on the cation exchange strategy, the Nb–Mn redox interaction increases the real Mn4+ doping contents in Cs2NbF6: Mn4+, and the blue‐light absorption efficiency is enhanced correspondingly. A highly efficient Mn4+‐doped red phosphor is achieved. Synthesis of a Mn4+‐activated fluoride red‐emitting phosphor combining high efficiency, excellent thermal stability, and outstanding moisture resistance still remains a challenge. Herein, this work synthesizes a red‐emitting phosphor Cs2NbF6: Mn4+ (CNF: Mn4+) based on the cation‐exchange method. Interestingly, as a result of the redox reaction between Mn3+ (Mn2+) and Nb5+ ions during the exchange reaction, the real Mn4+ concentration is remarkably increased, while Nb5+ ions are reduced to Nb4+. The obtained optimum CNF: Mn4+ phosphor shows high internal and external photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield (QY) of 92% and 58%, respectively. Moreover, the CNF: Mn4+ exhibits excellent thermal stability (I@150 = 105%) and moisture resistance. A white light‐emitting diode (LED) packaged by combining blue diode chips, Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ yellow phosphor, and CNF: Mn4+ red phosphor demonstrates a low correlated color temperature (CCT) of 3872 K, high color rendering index (CRI) of Ra = 88, and a luminous efficacy of 105 lm W−1. The high‐performance of the white LED suggests the great potential of the CNF: Mn4+ narrowband red phosphor in display and lighting fields.

Abstract:The parity-selection rule for the Mn4+ dâ†’d intra-configurational transition, if being relaxed, would generate Mn4+-doped red-emitting phosphor with short fluorescence lifetime, a desired feature when a phosphor is used in a white light-emitting diode (WLED) lamp applied as backlight in displays. We design non-equivalent substitution of Mn4+ for Mo6+ coordinated with Fâˆ’/O2âˆ’ mixed-anions, and obtained K3Na(MoO2F4)2Â·H2O:Mn4+ red phosphor which exhibits fast decay (luminescence lifetime of ~2 ms) and intense zero phonon line (ZPL) emission at 623 nm (ZPL/Î1⁄26 intensity ratio of 65.7% at 300 K) under 470 nm excitation. The local octahedron distortion accounting for the luminescence features was discussed and the crystal field strength and nephelauxetic effect were compared with analogues. The increasing trend of the ZPL/Î1⁄26 intensity ratio from 300 K to 80 K was explained, and the luminescence decay of a series of Mn4+ doping concentrations was studuied. The K3Na(MoO2F4)2Â·H2O:3%Mn4+, when encapsulated with garnet green phosphor on a blue LED, produced a WLED backlight with a wide color gamut above 103.5% of the NTSC standard.

Abstract:A hydroxy fluoride red phosphor BaNbF5.5(OH)1.5:Mn4+ with dual morphology was designed and manufactured by co-precipitation strategy. The crystal phase structure, controlled morphology and photoluminescence performances were systematically investigated. The Mn4+ non-equivalent doped hydroxy fluoride phosphor has similar luminescence performance to fluoride phosphors, and it is worth noting that it presents a very strong zero phonon line (ZPL) at ∼629 nm at blue light excitation and has high color purity (98.5%). Crystal field intensity (D q ), Racah parameters (B and C) and nephelauxetic effect ratio parameter β 1 of the sample were calculated and analyzed, the results indicate that the BaNbF5.5(OH)1.5 matrix provides a strong crystal field environment for Mn4+. The effects of the experimental conditions on the morphology of the phosphors were analyzed, and optimal synthetic conditions were determined. Because of the short fluorescence decay lifetime (τ < 4 ms), this red phosphor may be a prospective red emitting candidate for backlight displays. Moreover, the as-prepared BaNbF5.5(OH)1.5:Mn4+ red phosphor possesses distinguished UV light-induced stability. Thermal stability and hydrophobic stability of the phosphor were analyzed. Thanks to the strong ZPL, WLED device prepared with this phosphor can produce warm white light and show remarkable photoelectric properties, with a color rendering index (CRI, Ra) of up to 92.5 and a correlated color temperature (CCT, Tc) as low as 3944 K. The results indicate that the red phosphor BaNbF5.5(OH)1.5:Mn4+ has application possibilities in WLED illumination and display backlighting.

Abstract:The study focuses on the synthesis of far-red phosphors Ca2InNbO6: xMn4+ (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.006) and Ca2InNbO6: 0.003Mn4+, yAl3+ (0 ≤ y ≤ 0.024). First-principles calculations confirmed that the indirect bandgap of Ca2InNbO6 used to be 3.522 eV. Photoluminescence spectroscopy was used to examine the luminescence characteristics and energy transfer mechanism of CINO: xMn4+ and CINO: 0.003Mn4+, yAl3+ phosphors. When Mn4+ ions undergo the 2Eg → 4A2g transition under 380 nm excitation, brilliant red light with a central wavelength of 688 nm is released. In addition, the emission intensity reaches 2.6 times that of CINO: 0.003Mn4+, when Al3+ has a 1.2% optimal doping concentration. At the same time, the thermal stability of the material is improved. The reasons for the enhanced fluorescence and thermal stability were analysed by lattice distortion and blocking of energy transfer. Additionally, the prepared red LED lamps, which shown a bright red light even after long periods of operation at high temperatures, were used for the cultivation of plant seeds, and the germination rate as well as the stems and leaves thriving growth were significantly better than the cultivation without the red LED, suggesting that Al3+ doping Ca2InNbO6: Mn4+ has potential applications in the field of plant cultivation and growth LEDs, and is a guide for ion-doped modified phosphors.

Abstract:Nowadays, Mn4+-activated fluoride red phosphors with high color purity, strong zero phonon line emission and relatively short decay time are crucial for improving the optical performance of WLED and emerging applications. In this work, a series of red-emitting Mn4+-activated fluoride phosphors in consideration of the non-equivalent substitution of Mn4+ for Ga3+ in the Na3GaF6 host are synthesized via the coprecipitation method at room temperature. The use of different reaction solvents successfully regulates the morphology, size and luminescence intensity of the phosphor. Under blue light excitation, Na3GaF6:Mn4+ sample shows a bright narrow-band red emission with exceptional correlated color temperature (4029 K). Moreover, the emission of strong zero phonon line induces the outstanding color purity of red light (93%). In addition, the critical concentration of Mn4+ is determined to be 0.04 and the concentration quenching mechanism is also systematically discussed. Noticeably, when Na3GaF6:Mn4+ phosphor achieves maximum fluorescence emission, its fluorescence lifetime value is only 3.48 ms. Additionally, the theoretical calculated results demonstrate that Na3GaF6 host can provide strong crystal field strength for Mn4+, and the Racah parameters (B and C) and nephelauxetic ratio (β 1) are used to evaluate the nephelauxetic effect of Mn4+, which is compared with other types of Mn4+-activated phosphors. The activation energy, chromaticity shift and chromaticity coordinate variation are systematically calculated to analyze the thermal stability of Na3GaF6:Mn4+ red phosphor. Meanwhile, by employing the as-prepared phosphor Na3GaF6:Mn4+ as a red component, a high-performance warm WLED shows a full spectrum emission, and the corresponding cold white light emission is also transformed into the warm white light emission (CCT = 4224 K, Ra = 89.1 and LE = 111.72 lm/W). Moreover, under high driving current, such WLED exhibits stable output light efficiency. These results suggest that Na3GaF6:Mn4+ as red phosphor has a stupendous potential for warm WLED in indoor lighting.

Abstract:Now free rare earth ions doped materials have attracted a lot of attention. In this work, CaNb2O6:Mn2+ with a pure phase is synthesized by solid-state method in the reducing atmosphere. The crystal structure and luminescence properties of host (CaNb2O6) and CaNb2O6:Mn2+ are investigated. Host (CaNb2O6) under excitation ultraviolet (UV) light emits blue light. CaNb2O6:Mn2+ can show tunable emission from blue to white. Under excitation 260 nm, blue emission of CaNb2O6:Mn2+ is observed owing to the 4T1(4G) → 6A1(6S) transition of Mn2+. When the excitation wavelength is 314 nm, CaNb2O6:Mn2+ emits white light due to the 4T1(4G) → 6A1(6S) transition of Mn2+ and the 6A1(6S)4T1(4G) → 6A1(6S)6A1(6S) transition in Mn2+ - Mn2+ dimers. We measure the concentration dependent spectra of CaNb2O6:Mn2+ and make sure the optimal Mn2+ doping concentration (∼0.8 mol%). We infer that the concentration quenching mechanism is the electric multipolar interaction between nearest-neighbor ions. Based on the temperature dependent spectra of CaNb2O6:Mn2+, we came to the conclusion that CaNb2O6:Mn2+ has a good thermal stability. We analyze the concentration and thermal quenching mechanisms and explain the luminous mechanism by the Tanabe-Sugano energy level diagram of Mn2+ ion. This research results provide a framework for creating Mn2+-doped luminescent materials.

Abstract:In recent years, M (M = Al, Ga and In)-based fluoride red phosphors have received widespread attention. Herein, the red phosphors (NH4)2NaAlF6:Mn4+ (NNAFM), (NH4)2NaGaF6:Mn4+ (NNGFM) and (NH4)2NaInF6:Mn4+ (NNIFM) were synthesized by hydrothermal method, and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometers (EDS). Upon 470 nm light irradiation, the strongest emission peaks of (NH4)2NaMF6:Mn4+ red phosphors were at 637 nm (NNAFM), 636 nm (NNGFM) and 634 nm (NNIFM), respectively. This blue shift phenomenon with the increase of atomic radius was analyzed by crystal field and nephelauxetic effect. Besides, the concentration quenching mechanism, fluorescence lifetime and thermal stability were also discussed. Finally, three kinds of red phosphors were combined with blue chip and yellow phosphor (YAG:Ce3+) to form LED devices for improving their performance. The LED device (blue chip-YAG:Ce3+-NNGFM) possesses high color rendering index (Ra = 90.1), low correlated color temperature (3422 K) and luminous efficiency (41.23 lm W−1).

Abstract:Trivalent chromium ion activated broadband near-infrared (NIR) luminescence materials have shown great application prospect as next-generation NIR light source, but it remains a challenge to improve the luminescence efficiency. Herein, novel K2LiScF6:Cr3+ and K2LiScF6:Cr3+/Mn4+ broadband fluoride NIR phosphors are designed and prepared by a combination of hydrothermal and cation exchange method for the first time. The crystal structure and photoluminescence (PL) properties of K2LiScF6:Cr3+ are studied in detail, which shows strong absorption in blue light region (λex = 432 nm) and broadband NIR emission (λem = 770 nm) with a PL quantum efficiency of 77.6%. More importantly, the NIR emission of Cr3+ can be enhanced by co-doping of Mn4+, which may provide an alternative way for improving the PL intensity of Cr3+-activated broadband NIR phosphor. At last, a NIR phosphor-converted LED (pc-LED) device is fabricated using the as-prepared NIR phosphor and its application in bio-imaging and night vision has been evaluated.

Abstract:Chrysanthemum-like K2LiAlF6:Mn4+ phosphors were synthesized by simple co-precipitation method without using HF. The K2LiAlF6:Mn4+ phosphor can be effectively excited through blue light at 465 nm, then produces sharp red-light emission near 634 nm. The luminescence quenching of Mn4+ is caused by the d-d interaction between Mn4+ ions. The effects of surfactant and lithium source on the luminescent properties of K2LiAlF6:Mn4+ phosphors were discussed. Mn4+ is located in a strong crystal field environment in the K2LiAlF6 matrix and its emission mechanism is discussed. Warm white light emitting diode (WLED) device, which is fabricated by coating a certain proportion mixture of yellow YAG:Ce3+ phosphor and red K2LiAlF6:5%Mn4+ phosphor on the blue GaN chip, has low correlation color temperature (CCT = 3588 K), high color rendering index (Ra = 90.8) and good electroluminescence stability under different currents. These properties illustrate that K2LiAlF6:5%Mn4+ phosphor is a promising red light emitting material.
