Abstract:Background: Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, diagnosed postmortem (hyperphosphorylated tau), is preceded by traumatic encephalopathy syndrome with worsening cognition and behavior/mood disturbances, over years. Transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM) may promote improvements by increasing ATP in compromised/stressed cells and increasing local blood, lymphatic vessel vasodilation. Objective: Aim 1: Examine cognition, behavior/mood changes Post-tPBM. Aim 2: MRI changes - resting-state functional-connectivity MRI: salience, central executive, default mode networks (SN, CEN, DMN); magnetic resonance spectroscopy, cingulate cortex. Methods: Four ex-players with traumatic encephalopathy syndrome/possible chronic traumatic encephalopathy, playing 11- 16 years, received In-office, red/near-infrared tPBM to scalp, 3x/week for 6 weeks. Two had cavum septum pellucidum. Results: The three younger cases (ages 55, 57, 65) improved 2 SD (p < 0.05) on three to six neuropsychological tests/subtests at 1 week or 1 month Post-tPBM, compared to Pre-Treatment, while the older case (age 74) improved by 1.5 SD on three tests. There was significant improvement at 1 month on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, pain, and sleep. One case discontinued narcotic pain medications and had reduced tinnitus. The possible placebo effect is unknown. At 2 months Post-tPBM, two cases regressed. Then, home tPBM was applied to only cortical nodes, DMN (12 weeks); again, significant improvements were seen. Significant correlations for increased SN functional connectivity (FC) over time, with executive function, attention, PTSD, pain, and sleep; and CEN FC, with verbal learning/memory, depression. Increased n-acetyl-aspartate (NAA) (oxygen consumption, mitochondria) was present in anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), parallel to less pain and PTSD. Conclusion: After tPBM, these ex-football players improved. Significant correlations of increased SN FC and CEN FC with specific cognitive tests and behavior/mood ratings, plus increased NAA in ACC support beneficial effects from tPBM.

Abstract:Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common cause of neurologic morbidity for which few effective therapies exist, especially during the chronic stage. A potential therapy for chronic TBI is transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM). tPBM is a noninvasive neuromodulation technique that uses light to stimulate the cortex and increase blood flow and metabolism while also enhancing cognition and improving affect. There has been much work focusing on the efficacy of tPBM in acute TBI in small animals, but much less work has focused on chronic TBI. Patients with chronic TBI manifest microvascular injury, which may serve as a modifiable treatment target for tPBM. There is a need to study and improve tPBM, as the currently implemented protocols targeting microvascular injury have been relatively unsuccessful. This review includes 16 studies, which concluded that after tPBM application, there were improvements in neuropsychological outcomes in addition to increases in cerebral blood flow. However, these conclusions are confounded by differing tPBM parameters, small sample sizes, and heterogenous TBI populations. While these results are encouraging, there is a need to further understand the therapeutic potential of tPBM in chronic TBI.

Traumatic Brain Injury Recovery with Photobiomodulation: Cellular Mechanisms, Clinical Evidence, and Future Potential

Abstract:Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) remains a significant global health challenge, lacking effective pharmacological treatments. This shortcoming is attributed to TBI's heterogeneous and complex pathophysiology, which includes axonal damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and persistent neuroinflammation. The objective of this study is to analyze transcranial photobiomodulation (PBM), which employs specific red to near-infrared light wavelengths to modulate brain functions, as a promising therapy to address TBI's complex pathophysiology in a single intervention. This study reviews the feasibility of this therapy, firstly by synthesizing PBM's cellular mechanisms with each identified TBI's pathophysiological aspect. The outcomes in human clinical studies are then reviewed. The findings support PBM's potential for treating TBI, notwithstanding variations in parameters such as wavelength, power density, dose, light source positioning, and pulse frequencies. Emerging data indicate that each of these parameters plays a role in the outcomes. Additionally, new research into PBM's effects on the electrical properties and polymerization dynamics of neuronal microstructures, like microtubules and tubulins, provides insights for future parameter optimization. In summary, transcranial PBM represents a multifaceted therapeutic intervention for TBI with vast potential which may be fulfilled by optimizing the parameters. Future research should investigate optimizing these parameters, which is possible by incorporating artificial intelligence.

Abstract:Background: Symptoms reported by patients who sustain a concussion are non-specific. As such, clinicians are better able to manage patients when a standardized clinical exam is performed to sub-type the driver(s) of symptoms. Aerobic exercise and multimodal rehabilitation have consistently shown to be a possibly effective means to manage this population; however, the optimal training prescription is unclear. Thus, there is a need to further examine the effectiveness of personalized rehabilitative treatments. Our primary aim is to evaluate the response to personalized therapy on recovery, as measured by The Rivermead Post-concussion Symptoms Questionnaire (RPQ) when compared to an active control. Methods: We will conduct a multi-center 12-week case-crossover randomized controlled trial. 50 participants will be recruited from out-patient University Health Network clinics and community-based clinical practices around the greater Toronto area. Participants will be randomized at baseline to Group A: a personalized care program followed by an active control or Group B: an active control followed by a personalized care program. Participants will be included should they be 21 years of age and older and have symptoms that have persisted beyond 4 weeks but less than 1 year. Participants will undergo 6-weeks of care in their respective streams. After 6-weeks, participants will undergo a re-examination. They will then crossover and undertake the alternative treatment for 6 weeks. At the end of 12 weeks, participants will undertake the endpoint examinations. The primary outcome will be the Rivermead Postconcussion Questionnaire (RPQ). The secondary outcomes will be changes in standardized clinical examination, Neck Disability Index (NDI), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and an electroencephalography (EEG) via NeuroCatch™. The statistical analysis to be performed is composed of an adjusted model using an analysis of variance, specifically using an unpaired t-test to test for associations between variables and outcomes. Discussion: Given the recommendations from reviews on the topic of rehabilitation for adults with persistent concussion symptoms, we are undertaking a controlled trial. The documented high costs for patients seeking care for persistent symptoms necessitate the need to evaluate the effectiveness of a personalized rehabilitative program compared to the current standard of care. Photobiomodulation improves functional recovery after mild traumatic brain injury

Abstract:Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is a common consequence of head injury but there are no recognized interventions to promote recovery of the brain. We previously showed that photobiomodulation (PBM) significantly reduced the number of apoptotic cells in adult rat hippocampal organotypic slice cultures. In this study, we first optimized PBM delivery parameters for use in mTBI, conducting cadaveric studies to calibrate 660 and 810 nm lasers for transcutaneous delivery of PBM to the cortical surface. We then used an in vivo weight drop mTBI model in adult rats and delivered daily optimized doses of 660, 810 nm, or combined 660/810 nm PBM. Functional recovery was assessed using novel object recognition (NOR) and beam balance tests, whilst histology and immunohistochemistry were used to assess the mTBI neuropathology. We found that PBM at 810, 660 nm, or 810/660 nm all significantly improved both NOR and beam balance performance, with 810 nm PBM having the greatest effects. Histology demonstrated no overt structural damage in the brain after mTBI, however, immunohistochemistry using brain sections showed significantly reduced activation of both CD11b+ microglia and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)+ astrocytes at 3 days post‐injury. Significantly reduced cortical localization of the apoptosis marker, cleaved caspase‐3, and modest reductions in extracellular matrix deposition after PBM treatment, limited to choroid plexus and periventricular areas were also observed. Our results demonstrate that 810 nm PBM optimally improved functional outcomes after mTBI, reduced markers associated with apoptosis and astrocyte/microglial activation, and thus may be useful as a potential regenerative therapy.

Abstract:Background: There is a significant lack of therapeutic options for mild cognitive impairment (MCI), which is rapidly becoming a global epidemic due to aging. Transcranial photobiomodulation (t-PBM) involves delivering near-infrared light (NIR) to the scalp, targeting cortical areas of the brain. NIR t-PBM has recently emerged as a potential therapy for various neurodegenerative conditions, including memory issues. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate cognition scores (primary outcome), depression, anxiety, resilience scores, neuroplasticity, and neurodegeneration biomarkers (secondary outcomes) in individuals with MCI undergoing t-PBM therapy or receiving a placebo. Materials and methods: A total of 93 older adult individuals with MCI were randomly assigned to either a t-PBM (n = 47) or Placebo (n = 46) group. Clinical assessments were conducted at baseline, 60 days post-treatment, and a 150-day follow-up. We also measured serum levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neuroplasticity biomarker, as well as neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and calcium-binding protein B (S100B), which are neurodegeneration biomarkers. Intervention effects were analyzed using repeated measures (RM) two-way ANOVA followed by Tukey post hoc test. Fischer's exact test and Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) were also applied. Results: Of the 93 older adults individuals invited to participate, 76 (t-PBM: 40, placebo: 36) completed the study. The t-PBM significantly improved cognition as measured by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) compared to placebo (p = 0.0301). The delta values for MoCA scores were 3.20 in the t-PBM group and 1.97 in the placebo group. This effect persisted until the three-month follow-up, accompanied by increased BDNF levels in the t-PBM group but not in the placebo group (p = 0.0046). The delta values for BDNF were 821.94 in the t-PBM group and 359.41 in the placebo group. t-PBM did not alter depression, anxiety, resilience scores, nor the levels of NSE and S100B in individuals with MCI. Conclusion: The t-PBM increases cognitive function and BDNF levels in adults with MCI. Its application as an adjunctive treatment may play a crucial role in preventing neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract:Background: Alzheimer's disease's (AD) prevalence is projected to increase as the population ages and current treatments are minimally effective. Transcranial photobiomodulation (t-PBM) with near-infrared (NIR) light penetrates into the cerebral cortex, stimulates the mitochondrial respiratory chain, and increases cerebral blood flow. Preliminary data suggests t-PBM may be efficacious in improving cognition in people with early AD and amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study with aMCI and early AD participants, we will test the efficacy, safety, and impact on cognition of 24 sessions of t-PBM delivered over 8 weeks. Brain mechanisms of t-PBM in this population will be explored by testing whether the baseline tau burden (measured with 18F-MK6240), or changes in mitochondrial function over 8 weeks (assessed with 31P-MRSI), moderates the changes observed in cognitive functions after t-PBM therapy. We will also use changes in the fMRI Blood-Oxygenation-Level-Dependent (BOLD) signal after a single treatment to demonstrate t-PBM-dependent increases in prefrontal cortex blood flow. Conclusion: This study will test whether t-PBM, a low-cost, accessible, and user-friendly intervention, has the potential to improve cognition and function in an aMCI and early AD population.

Abstract:Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is an innovative treatment for neurological and psychological conditions. Complex IV of the mitochondrial respiratory chain can be stimulated by red light, which increases ATP synthesis. Additionally, the ion channels' light absorption causes the release of Ca2+, which activates transcription factors and changes gene expression. Neuronal metabolism is improved by brain PBM therapy, which also promotes synaptogenesis and neurogenesis as well as anti‐inflammatory. Its depression‐treating potential is attracting attention for other conditions, including Parkinson's disease and dementia. Giving enough dosage for optimum stimulation using the transcranial PBM technique is challenging because of the rapidly increasing attenuation of light transmission in tissue. Different strategies like intranasal and intracranial light delivery systems have been proposed to overcome this restriction. Abstract:Abstract Background We present a pilot study of the Cerebrolite technology, where we explored the effect of multi-modality photo-biomodulation (PBM) therapy, with a peak wavelength of 1068 nm, upon motor function, memory and processing speed reversal in aged individuals who have been diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) .Methods PBM therapy was performed at home, adopting the Cerebrolite Trans-cranial phototherapy device, an air-cooled light emitting diode LED pulse mounted inside the helmet, with a peak wavelength of 1068 nm, used for 6 min twice daily on age-matched middle-aged subjects. The FDA- approved computerised assessment tool ANAM was adopted to quantify a series of cognitive and motor activities in the treated groups.Results A significant improvement in motor function, memory and processing speed was observed in MCI aged individuals with PBM- compared to placebo-treated group. No adverse effects were reported.Conclusions PBM therapy may be a promising new non-invasive approach for middle-aged individuals with MCI.
Transcranial photobiomodulation: an emerging therapeutic method to enhance brain bioenergetics

Abstract:Beginning in the 1960s, animal and cell culture studies have demonstrated that transcranial photobiomodulation (t-PBM), which involves photons in the red and near-infrared spectrum, can penetrate the cerebral cortex and enhance the mitochondrial electron transport chain [1] (fNIRS similarly uses near infrared photons to image the brain, but at lower light intensities and exposure, resulting in minimal impact on brain function). Emerging human t-PBM data have demonstrated behavioral and clinical effects in multiple patient populations, along with effects on cerebral metabolism and hemodynamics, highlighting its potential therapeutic efficacy [1]. For example, small studies suggested that t-PBM delivered with both high (700 mW/cm 2 ) and low (36 mW/cm 2 ) irradiance [2] is effective in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). However, since other studies with low t-PBM irradiance (55 mW/cm 2 ) did not replicate the positive results in MDD [3], it becomes critically important to further understand the irradiance dose-dependent neurobiological mechanisms of t-PBM, as we are attempting in our ongoing clinical trial [4]. t-PBM has an excellent safety profile [1,2,3], and it can be performed in multiple settings, including during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or other neuroimaging modalities, to quantify the impact on brain bioenergetics noninvasively and in real-time. However, work is still underway to determine the optimal parameters for clinical utility. Our team has recently demonstrated the effect of t-PBM, at medium irradiance (300 mW/cm 2 ), on regional intrinsic brain activity in 19 individuals with early Alzheimer's disease [AD] [5]. In this publication [5], we found that t-PBM altered the fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF) across all laser-irradiated brain cortical regions, which are limited to frontal regions due to skull density and hair interference. fALFF, assessed non-invasively during resting-state MRI, is a voxel-based measure of intrinsic brain activity measuring the regional brain metabolism: it is strongly correlated with cerebral glucose metabolism measured by [ 18 F]Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography. Similarly, other studies have reported increases in MRI BOLD signal (also in t-PBM-irradiated brain areas, at 300 mW/cm 2 irradiance) in healthy volunteers [6]. The increase in fALFF we detected in t-PBM-irradiated brain areas during stimulation [5], and the similar increases in MRI BOLD signal [6], suggest that t-PBM can increase intrinsic brain activity (and specifically cerebral metabolism) in real time; these effects continue briefly after t-PBM administration has ended.

Sports-Related Concussion Assessment: A New Physiological, Biomechanical, and Cognitive Methodology Incorporating a Randomized Controlled Trial Study Protocol

Abstract:Background: Taking part in moderate-to-vigorous exercise in contact sports on a regular basis may be linked to an increase in cerebrovascular injury and head trauma. Validated objective measures are lacking in the initial post-event diagnosis of head injury. The exercise style, duration, and intensity may also confound diagnostic indicators. As a result, we propose that the new Interdisciplinary Group in Movement & Performance from Acute & Chronic Head Trauma (IMPACT) analyze a variety of functional (biomechanical and motor control) tests as well as related biochemistry to see how they are affected by contact in sports and head injury. The study's goal will be to look into the performance and physiological changes in rugby players after a game for head trauma and injury. Methods: This one-of-a-kind study will use a randomized controlled trial (RCT) utilizing a sport participation group and a non-participation control group. Forty male rugby 7 s players will be recruited for the study and allocated randomly to the experimental groups. The intervention group will participate in three straight rugby matches during a local 7 s rugby event. At the pre-match baseline, demographic and anthropometric data will be collected. This will be followed by the pre-match baseline collection of biochemical, biomechanical, and cognitive-motor task data. After three consecutive matches, the same measures will be taken. During each match, a notational analysis will be undertaken to obtain contact information. All measurements will be taken again 24, 48, and 72 h after the third match. Discussion: When the number of games increases owing to weariness and/or stressful circumstances, we expect a decline in body movement, coordination, and cognitive-motor tasks. Changes in blood biochemistry are expected to correspond to changes in biomechanics and cognitive-motor processes. This research proposal will generate considerable, ecologically valid data on the occurrence of head trauma events under game conditions, as well as the influence of these events on the biological systems of the performers. This will lead to a greater understanding of how sports participants react to exercise-induced injuries. This study's scope will have far-reaching ramifications for doctors, coaches, managers, scientists, and sports regulatory bodies concerned with the health and well-being of athletic populations at all levels of competition, including all genders and ages.

Abstract:Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can improve postural control in subacute and chronic ischemic stroke, but further research is needed to investigate the effect of rTMS on acute ischemic stroke. Objective: We compared the therapeutic effects of rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation and conventional rehabilitation on postural control in patients with mild hemiparesis in acute ischemic stroke. Methods: Eighty-six patients with acute ischemic stroke were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group within 1-7 days of onset. Patients in both groups received conventional rehabilitation for 2 weeks. Patients in the experimental group received rTMS treatments lasting for 2 weeks. Before and after the 2-week treatment, patients were assessed based on the Timed up and Go (TUG) test, Dual-Task Walking (DTW) test, Functional Ambulation Category (FAC), Tinetti Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment (POMA), gait kinematic parameters, Barthel Index (BI), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Additionally, TUG and single-task gait velocity were assessed at 2 months after the start of treatment, and independent walking recovery was also followed up. Results: After 2 weeks of treatment, compared to conventional rehabilitation, participants who underwent rTMS treatment plus conventional rehabilitation exhibited notable enhancements in TUG, FAC, POMA, and some gait parameters [single-task gait velocity, gait stride length, gait cadence, gait cycle]. Changes in cognitive function partially mediated the improvement in single-task gait velocity and gait stride length by rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation. Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) analysis showed that the trend of improvement in single-task gait velocity over time was more pronounced in the experimental group than in the control group. The results of the Kaplan-Meier curve indicated a median gait recovery time of 90 days for patients in the experimental group and 100 days for the control group. Multifactorial Cox regression analyses showed that rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation promoted faster recovery of independent walking compared with conventional rehabilitation. Conclusion: rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation outperformed conventional rehabilitation in improving postural control in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Improvements in cognitive function may serve as a mediating factor in the favorable treatment outcome of rTMS plus conventional rehabilitation for improving postural control. Abstract:The purpose of this study was the analysis of the buccal smears from 200 healthy children and children with chronic tonsillitis and chicken pox. The smears were stained using Pappenheim's method. The peculiarity of buccal mucosa cytograms of children of different ages was the significant increase in mature forms of the cells (presence of differentiation stage 5 and 6 cells) in adolescents. They also had a lower area of epitheliocytes at all the stages of differentiation and of their nuclei. In chronic tonsillitis and chicken pox, the complex of cytological changes was detected, that included the increase of the leukocyte number, changes in the proportions of epitheliocytes in cell population, augmentation of inflammation-destruction and destruction indexes.
Long-term postural control in elite athletes following mild traumatic brain injury

Abstract:Background: Traumas to the head and neck are common in sports and often affects otherwise healthy young individuals. Sports-related concussions (SRC), defined as a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), may inflict persistent neck and shoulder pain, and headache, but also more complex symptoms, such as imbalance, dizziness, and visual disturbances. These more complex symptoms are difficult to identify with standard health care diagnostic procedures. Objective: To investigate postural control in a group of former elite athletes with persistent post-concussive symptoms (PPCS) at least 6 months after the incident. Method: Postural control was examined using posturography during quiet stance and randomized balance perturbations with eyes open and eyes closed. Randomized balance perturbations were used to examine motor learning through sensorimotor adaptation. Force platform recordings were converted to reflect the energy used to maintain balance and spectrally categorized into total energy used, energy used for smooth corrective changes of posture (i.e., 0.1 Hz). Results: The mTBI group included 20 (13 males, mean age 26.6 years) elite athletes with PPCS and the control group included 12 athletes (9 males, mean age 26.4 years) with no history of SRC. The mTBI group used significantly more energy during balance perturbations than controls: +143% total energy, p = 0.004; +122% low frequency energy, p = 0.007; and +162% high frequency energy, p = 0.004. The mTBI subjects also adapted less to the balance perturbations than controls in total (18% mTBI vs. 37% controls, p = 0.042), low frequency (24% mTBI vs. 42% controls, p = 0.046), and high frequency (6% mTBI vs. 28% controls, p = 0.040). The mTBI subjects used significantly more energy during quiet stance than controls: +128% total energy, p = 0.034; +136% low-frequency energy, p = 0.048; and +109% high-frequency energy, p = 0.015. Conclusion: Athletes with previous mTBI and PPCS used more energy to stand compared to controls during balance perturbations and quiet stance and had diminished sensorimotor adaptation. Sports-related concussions are able to affect postural control and motor learning.

Abstract:Background: Treatment for post-traumatic greater occipital neuralgia (GON) includes serial injections of steroid/anesthetic. While these injections can alleviate pain, effects can be transient, frequently lasting only 1 month. As a potential alternative, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are an emerging biological treatment with beneficial effects in peripheral nerve disorders. We investigated the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of a single PRP injection for post-traumatic GON in comparison to saline or steroid/anesthetic injection. Methods: In this pilot randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial, 32 adults with post-traumatic GON were allocated 1:1:1 to receive a single ultrasound-guided injection of (1) autologous PRP (2) steroid/anesthetic or (3) normal saline. Our primary outcome was feasibility (recruitment, attendance, retention) and safety (adverse events). Exploratory measures included headache intensity and frequency (daily headache diaries) and additional questionnaires (headache impact, and quality of life) assessed at pre-injection, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months post-injection. Results: We screened 67 individuals, 55% were eligible and 95% of those participated. Over 80% of daily headache diaries were completed with 91% of participants completing the 3-month outcome questionnaires. No serious adverse events were reported. There were no significant differences between groups for headache intensity or frequency. Headache impact on function test-6 scores improved at 3 month in the PRP ( β = −9.7, 95% CI [−15.6, −3.74], p = 0.002) and saline ( β = −6.7 [−12.7, −0.57], p = 0.033) groups but not steroid/anesthetic group ( p = 0.135). Conclusion: PRP is a feasible and safe method for treating post-traumatic GON with comparable results to saline and steroid/anaesthetic. Further trials with larger sample sizes are required. Abstract:Treatment of the chronic sequela that persist after a mild traumatic brain injury has been challenging with limited efficacy. The aim of this work was to report outcomes obtained from persons who met the criteria of persisting post-concussive symptoms (PPCS), utilizing a novel combination of modalities in a structured neurorehabilitation program. This work was designed as a retrospective, pre-post chart review of objective and subjective measures collected from 62 outpatients with PPCS a mean of 2.2 years post-injury, before and after a multi-modal 5-day treatment protocol. The subjective outcome measure was the 27-item modified Graded Symptom Checklist (mGSC). Objective outcome measures were motor speed/reaction time, coordination, cognitive processing, visual acuity, and vestibular function. Interventions included non-invasive neuromodulation, neuromuscular re-education exercises, gaze stabilization exercises, orthoptic exercises, cognitive training, therapeutic exercises, and single/multi-axis rotation therapy. Pre-post differences in measures were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, with effect size determined by the rank-biserial correlation coefficient. Pre-post treatment comparisons for the subjective mGSC overall, combined symptom measures, individual components of the mGSC, and cluster scores significantly improved for all items. Moderate strength relationships were observed for the mGSC composite score, number of symptoms, average symptom score, feeling in a "fog," "don't feel right," irritability, and physical, cognitive, and affective cluster scores. Objective symptom assessment significantly improved for trail making, processing speed, reaction time, visual acuity, and Standardized Assessment of Concussion. Patients suffering from PPCS ∼2 years after injury may have significant benefits with some moderate effect sizes from an intensive, multi-modal neurorehabilitation program.
