Abstract:The excellent performance of Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) is widely recognized, but its high cost remains a hindrance to its more comprehensive application. This paper focuses on the effects on the tensile cracking behavior and mechanical response of UHPC when its cost is reduced by decreasing the fiber content and adding steel rebars. Twenty-four UHPC specimens with different fiber contents (0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, and 3.0%) and reinforcement ratios (0% and 3.0%) were tested by direct tensile tests. The effects of varying fiber content and adding steel rebars on the cracking behavior and mechanical response of UHPC were assessed. The fiber efficiency in UHPC with different parameter combinations was quantitatively evaluated in terms of the ability to control the main crack opening, improve ductility, and enhance load-bearing capacity. The results show that reducing the fiber content leads to a substantial degradation in the capacity to restrain the maximum crack opening, ductility, and load-bearing capacity of UHPC. However, the addition of steel rebars weakens or eliminates the negative effects induced by lowering the fiber content and even obtains a better capacity to restrain the maximum crack opening. With tensile properties and fiber efficiency as evaluation indicators, a fiber content of 2% is appropriate for UHPC, and a fiber content as low as 0.5% is recommended for steel rebar-reinforced UHPC.

Abstract:Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) is an advanced cement-based material with excellent mechanical properties and durability. However, with the improvement of UHPC's compressive properties, its insufficient tensile properties have gradually attracted attention. This paper reviews the tensile properties of steel fibers in UHPC. The purpose is to summarize the existing research and to provide guidance for future research. The relevant papers were retrieved through three commonly used experimental methods for UHPC tensile properties (the direct tensile test, flexural test, and splitting test), and classified according to the content, length, type, and combination of the steel fibers. The results show that the direct tensile test can better reflect the true tensile strength of UHPC materials. The tensile properties of UHPC are not only related to the content, shape, length, and hybrids of the steel fibers, but also to the composition of the UHPC matrix, the orientation of the fibers, and the geometric dimensions of the specimen. The improvement of the tensile properties of the steel fiber combinations depends on the effectiveness of the synergy between the fibers. Additionally, digital image correlation (DIC) technology is mainly used for crack propagation in UHPC. The analysis of the post-crack phase of UHPC is facilitated. Theoretical models and empirical formulas for tensile properties can further deepen the understanding of UHPC tensile properties and provide suggestions for future research.

Abstract:Thirty dog bone-shaped specimens were tested to study the effects of steel fiber mixed with seven kinds of non-metallic fibers on the tensile properties of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC). Through experiments and micromorphological analysis, the effects of hybrid fibers on the compressive strength, tensile strength, peak strain, fracture energy, and characteristic length of UHPC were analyzed. The results showed that the hybrid fiber-reinforced UHPC showed good ductile failure characteristics, which reflected the good crack resistance and toughening effect of different fibers. The tensile stress–strain curves of UHPC with different hybrid fibers can be divided into two parts: ascending section and softening section, and the softening section was greatly affected by the type and content of fibers. Basalt fiber with a diameter of 0.02 mm had the most obvious strengthening effect on UHPC, and polyvinyl alcohol fiber with a diameter of 0.2 mm and length of 8 mm had the best toughening effect. The mixing of steel fiber and non-metallic fiber cannot only reduce the preparation cost but also improve the fracture energy and toughness of UHPC.

Abstract:Seventy eight dog‐bone shaped ultra‐high performance concrete (UHPC) tensile specimens were designed to study the effects of single steel fiber and hybrid steel fiber with polyolefin (PP) fiber, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber, glass fiber (GF), polyester (PET) fiber, and basalt fiber (BF) on the compressive strength, tensile strength, peak strain, and fracture energy of UHPC. The results showed that hybrid fiber reinforced UHPC had good toughness damage characteristics, which reflected the strengthening and toughening effects of different fibers. The tensile stress–strain curves of hybrid fiber reinforced UHPC could be divided into the rising section and softening section, and the softening section was significantly influenced by the type and volume content of fibers. Among the microfiber (PVA fiber, GF, and BF), GF had the most significant strengthening effect, PVA fiber had the best ability to improve the deformation of UHPC, and BF had the most significant effect on the improvement of fracture energy. Among macrofiber (PP fiber, PET fiber), PP fiber had a better ability to improve UHPC deformation than PET fiber, but both were lower than microfiber. When the total volume content of steel fiber and PVA fiber was 2.5%, the best toughening and crack resistance effect was achieved when the volume content of steel fiber was 1.5% and the volume content of PVA fiber was 1.0%. Combined with the experimental results, the UHPC tensile σ–ω curves of single steel fibers, hybrid steel–PVA fibers, and hybrid steel–PVA–PET fibers were established, and the predicted curves were in good agreement with the experimental curves.

Abstract:This research is aimed at investigating the flexural and cracking behaviors of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) beams. Nine UHPC beams with different reinforcement ratios (0, 1.0%, 2.9%, 4.8%, and 7.1%) and fiber volume fractions (2.0% and 3.0%) were considered under flexure. A section analysis was also performed to predict the flexural and cracking behaviors of UHPC beams and was verified by experimental results. The test results showed that the reinforcement and steel fibers can play a significant role in limiting crack development. Considering the performance of the steel fibers, a high-precision equation for predicting the average crack spacing of UHPC beams was developed. The formulas in the French standard NF P 18–710 overestimated the maximum crack width by a significant margin for the UHPC beams with a high reinforcement ratio (>4%). The flexural stiffness of the reinforced UHPC beams increased as the reinforcement ratio increased, whereas their initial stiffness without reinforcement was larger than that with a low reinforcement ratio of 1.0% because of the weak bond interface between the UHPC and the reinforcement. The flexural capacity of the UHPC beams basically increased linearly with the reinforcement ratios. The result of the sectional analysis indicated that the contribution of steel fibers to the flexural capacity decreased significantly with the increase in the reinforcement ratio. In the ultimate limit states design, the contribution of UHPC tensile capacity could be considered only as a safety reserve when the reinforcement ratio is greater than 4.0%, whereas its contribution needs to be considered for the UHPC beams with a reinforcement ratio of less than 2.9%.

Abstract:This paper experimentally investigated the flexural and ductile behaviors of ultra‐high‐performance concrete (UHPC) beams. The failure modes, deflection, ductility, concrete strain, and reinforcement strain were tested using eight UHPC rectangular beams. The experimental parameters were the reinforcement ratio, the reinforcement diameter, and the UHPC cover thickness. The experimental results showed that all specimens exhibited flexural failure characterized by the yielding of steel rebars, multiple micro‐cracks, one localized macro‐crack, and slight crushing of UHPC. It was concluded that increasing the reinforcement ratio significantly enhanced the stiffness, flexural capacity, and ductility of the rebar‐reinforced UHPC beams, whereas showed little effect on their cracking load. Meanwhile, both the reinforcement diameter and UHPC cover thickness in the range investigated here had little influence on the flexural performance of UHPC beams in the elastic stage and crack development stage, whereas exhibited different influences in the yield stage. Besides, increasing the reinforcement ratio was in favor of presenting the deflection‐hardening behavior, while the reinforcement diameter and UHPC cover thickness had little influence on the deflection‐hardening behavior. The analytical models were established to predict the yielding load, peak load, and ultimate load of rebar‐reinforced UHPC beams, and the predictions showed good agreement with the experimental results in this study. Also, the steel reinforcement could show a dominant role in the bearing capacity by increasing the reinforcement ratio. A post‐yielding capacity factor λ was proposed, which could reasonably evaluate the deflection‐hardening and deflection‐softening behavior of UHPC flexural members in the present study. Abstract:Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) developed rapidly in research and commercial use during the recent decade. Significant progress has been achieved in its material science and technology, including why and how to add discontinuous fiber reinforcement in it. This paper reviews the researches on understanding the effects of various fibers on the mechanical properties of UHPC, focus on the straight steel fibers but involving also deformed steel fibers, non-steel fibers as well as hybrid fibers. It also discusses the research methodology, prediction of mechanical properties by fiber factors, and the classification of UHPC mechanical properties related to this topic. It shows that (1) the experimental research is the main methodology for investigating the effect of the fibers on the mechanical properties of UHPC; the tensile performance of UHPC should be studied by uniaxial tensile tests and its representative indicators should include tensile strength, initial cracking strength, and peak tensile strain; (2) fiber plays an essential role in the reinforcement of the tensile strength, compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, and other material properties of UHPC, but in weakening the flowability of fresh UHPC. The positive and negative effects of fibers on the mechanical properties of UHPC should be considered, and the technology should be developed to maintain the flowability when high volume fraction of fibers is added in the UHPC; (3) the parameters of steel fibers affecting the mechanical properties of UHPC include volume fraction, size, shape, orientation and distribution, average bonding strength and minimum tensile strength, etc., which are mainly studied independently in the existing research. The studies on the combined effect of these parameters are limited but worthy of further investigation; (4) hybrid fibers could efficiently produce reinforcement effects for UHPC. It has great practical and research significance to conduct in-depth studies though the theoretical analysis and quantitative prediction are complex.

Abstract:Abstract This research focused on improving ultra high-performance concrete (UHPC) toughness through the addition of annealed plain carbon steel fibers and stainless steel fibers that both exhibit increased ductility and strain hardening compared with conventional steel fibers used for concrete reinforcement. Implementing optimized heat treatments and selecting proper alternative alloys can improve the postyield carrying capacity of UHPCs through plastic deformations, phase transformations, and fiber pullout. This research focused on the flexural response and dynamic penetration resistance of a UHPC known as Cor-Tuf with three different steel fiber types: plain carbon steel, stainless steel that can exhibit phase transformation-induced plasticity, and annealed carbon steel with reduced tensile strength but increased ductility and strain hardening. Annealed carbon steel fibers were able to reduce mass loss by 0.8 % for 5-cm-thick dynamic impact panels. By using a phase-transformable stainless steel, the ultimate flexural strength increased from 32.0 to 42.5 MPa (33 % increase) and the postimpact velocity decreased an average of 31.5 m/s for 2.5 and 5-cm-thick dynamic impact panels. Phase transformations (austenitic to martensitic) were quantified in the stainless steel fibers of postyielded UHPC specimens using a vibrating sample magnetometer. Stainless steel fibers sampled from the postyielded tensile face of a flexural beam increased from 75 to 107 emu/g. The results of the study evidence improvements in tensile properties and toughness that can be accomplished by modifying the stress versus strain response of steel fiber reinforcement and including new energy dissipation mechanisms such as phase transformation.
Ultra‐high performance concrete under direct tension: Investigation of a hybrid of steel and synthetic fibers

Abstract:Ultra‐high performance concrete (UHPC) offers superior tensile properties in comparison to normal and high‐strength concrete. This is known to largely depend on the fibers included in the UHPC mixtures. Among the available types of fiber, steel fibers have been commonly used in the current practice. However, given the price and availability issues associated with steel fibers, there has been growing interest in benefiting from synthetic fibers in UHPC. This was the motivation for the current study to investigate the potential of five synthetic fibers by evaluating how the tensile properties of the UHPC mixtures made with a hybrid of steel and synthetic fibers are influenced under direct tension. The synthetic fibers of choice consisted of nylon, polypropylene, polyvinyl alcohol, alkali‐resistant glass, and carbon fibers. By using a dog bone test setup, the main tensile properties of the developed mixtures (i.e., direct tensile strength, elastic modulus, and stress–strain relationship) were systematically determined. The results extracted from direct tension tests were then further processed in conjunction with digital image correlation analyses to investigate the formation and propagation of cracks, as well as the post‐cracking response. The original findings reported from this study are expected to pave the way to broaden the fiber types that can be considered for the structural applications of UHPC, especially where high tensile stresses/strains are anticipated.

Abstract:Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) is an advanced cement-based composite which shows remarkable properties including very high compressive strength, increased tensile resistance, impressive toughness and excellent durability. One promising application of UHPC is in heavily-loaded beams and slabs where its use can allow for increased design efficiency and improved durability. Conversely, the high bond capacity of UHPC can lead to early bar fracture failures, especially when using low amounts of ordinary steel reinforcement. This paper examines the influence of reinforcement grade on the flexural ductility of UHPC beams. As part of the study, three beams built with either Grade 400 MPa ordinary steel reinforcement, Grade 690 MPa high-strength reinforcement or Grade 520 MPa stainless steel reinforcement, are tested under flexural loading. The key test parameters include the influence of concrete type (UHPC vs. conventional high-strength concrete) and steel type (high-strength or stainless steel vs. ordinary steel). The results show that the flexural strength and ductility of the UHPC beams is influenced by the steel grade/type. The beam with ordinary steel shows a well-defined yield point but fails by bar rupture. Increased resistance by 47% is observed when using high-strength bars, however bar rupture occurs owing to the low strain-capacity of this steel type. Combining UHPC with higher ductility stainless steel does not increase capacity, but leads to remarkable ductility by 75%. As part of the numerical study the behaviour of the beams is predicted using FE modelling and the effects of tension steel ratio, UHPC tensile strength and high-strength or stainless steel type are investigated.

Abstract:Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) is an advanced concrete with superior mechanical strength, ductility and durability properties. However, the influence of steel fiber on its constitutive laws and the specimen geometric dimension effect on its strength had not been paid enough attention. To investigate the effect of steel fibers on the properties of UHPC, specimens with different fiber volume contents and fiber types were tested. Meanwhile, the mechanical properties of UHPC at different ages from 3 days to 28 days were conducted. Moreover, specimens with various geometric dimensions were also prepared to study the effect of specimen geometric dimensions (dog-bone-shaped, prism and cylinder specimens) on the properties of UHPC. The results indicated that elastic modulus, tensile peak stress and the corresponding strain increased as the fiber volume content and curing age increased. Specimens with hooked-end fibers exhibited better tensile performance than those with straight fibers. Furthermore, different geometric dimensions of specimens significantly influenced the tensile properties of UHPC. Based on the experimental results, conversion factors were suggested for the transformation of strength obtained from specimens with different geometric dimensions to reference specimens. In addition, both compressive and tensile constitutive laws were proposed to generate the stress–strain relationship of UHPC.

Abstract:The influence of steel fiber on the mechanical properties of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) were studied through slump, compressive strength, flexural strength test. The experimental results showed that the incorporation of steel fiber had an influence on the working performance of UHPC, and the slump and expansion degree of UHPC were inversely proportional to the volume content and length-diameter ratio of steel fiber. The steel fiber significantly improved the compressive and flexural strength of UHPC. The mechanical property of UHPC was the best when the steel fiber content was 4%, with 28 day compressive strength up to 163.2MPa and flexural strength up to 45.9MPa. UHPC showed a trend of gradual decrease of compressive strength and gradual increase of flexural strength with the increase of aspect ratio of steel fiber on the condition of constant volume content of steel fiber. The addition of special-shaped steel fiber can improve the compressive and flexural strength of UHPC effectively.
Tensile characteristics of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete with and without longitudinal steel rebars

Abstract:This study presents an experimental evaluation of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete specimens with and without longitudinal reinforcement under direct tensile loading. The study variables are (i) volume fraction of fibers (1.0% and 2.0%), (ii) type of steel fibers (straight and hooked end), and (iii) longitudinal steel reinforcement ratio of 0.0% and 1.2%. All the specimens are tested using a servo-controlled fatigue testing machine in a displacement control mode. The changes in displacement were monitored using a linear variable displacement transducer and a digital image correlation technique. The strain profile at different loading stages is presented to identify the crack evolution process. Test results show that the average localized strain ranges from 0.2% to 0.36%, with corresponding crack widths of 0.3 mm to 0.6 mm. A uniaxial tensile stress-strain model is proposed based on the test results and literature database. The longitudinal steel reinforced specimens show both stiffening and strengthening effects. Tension-stiffened specimens with 1.0% fibers failed at a higher strain due to the formation of multiple macro cracks. In the specimens with 2.0% fibers, the rebar fractured in a brittle manner due to crack localization. A higher longitudinal reinforcement ratio is needed to effectively utilize UHPFRC under tension-dominant loads.

Abstract:<p>The research aims to enhance the ductility characteristics of ultra-high performance concrete fibre material (UHPC-FM) comprising with different micro-synthetic fibres such as basalt fibre (BF) polypropylene fibre (PPF) and glass fibre (GF). As a sequence, consecutive dosages of these fibres such as 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, and 2.5% of volumetric fractions were introduced into the mixes for preparing the UHPC-FM to achieve the goals. The observed results showed that both the type and amount of added fibres influenced on the properties of fresh and hardened UHPC-FM concretes. In addition, higher contents of fibre filament (FFs) resulted a decreasing trend in flow of fresh UHPC-FM mixtures, where pastes with PPF demonstrated the highest fluidity property. Moreover, compressive strength (CS) increased upon addition of 0.5% FFs and linearly decreased for introducing the higher amounts. Compared with the control specimen (UHPC-A0), the flexural strength of samples containing 2.5% BF, PPF and GF increased by 20.8%, 26.9%, and 27.9%, respectively. Modulus of rupture increased by 20.04% in case of BF, 24.92% for PPF and 26.05% for GF when compared with reference sample (8429.5-kN). Toughness indexes of BF, PPF and GF based UHPC-FM samples were around 4.64, 4.75 and 4.86 times higher respectively, in comparison to the control specimens. The microstructure observation and drying shrinkage test illustrate fiber can modify UHPC well, which corroborated the results of mechanical properties exactly. In addition, the results of the current test can be applied for ultra-high-performance (UHPC) panels and vibration-free UHPC material.</p>

Study on Dynamic Impact Mechanical Properties of UHPC with High-Content and Directional Reinforced Steel Fiber

Abstract:Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) is a kind of building material with ultra-high strength, toughness, and durability. However, under the conditions of ordinary molding technology, most of the fibers cannot play a bridging role in the direction of force. In this study, UHPC specimens with different steel fiber contents (0%, 2%, 4%, and 6% by volume) and directional reinforced fiber were prepared. Based on the split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB), the influence of directional distributed steel fiber on the dynamic impact mechanical properties of the UHPC specimen were systematically investigated. The stress–strain curves, stress peaks, dynamic increase factor (DIF), and ductile energy absorption properties of the specimens at different strain rates were obtained. The results showed that oriented steel fiber significantly increases the dynamic property of UHPC. The dynamic impact peak strain, peak stress, and DIF of the UHPC specimen with 2% oriented steel fiber were 35.78%, 8.8%, and 12.6% higher than that prepared by normal molding technology, respectively. Moreover, with the increase of fiber content, the peak stress, energy absorption, and multiple-impact compression resistance of the specimen were greatly improved. When the fiber content was 6%, the dynamic impact peak strain, dynamic impact compressive strength ratio, and energy absorption capacity of the specimen were 3.09, 1.45, and 4.1 times the reference group, respectively.

Abstract:This article describes the influence of corrugated steel fiber on the mechanical properties and fracture energy of Ultra-High Performance Concretes (UHPC) of various strength levels. Three UHPC formulations with compressive strengths of 143, 152, and 177 MPa were tested. The following parameters for the formulations without fiber and those containing 2% steel fiber by volume were determined: compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio and critical stress intensity factor. From the axial tensile test results, the following parameters were obtained: the cracking stress, tensile strength, and fracture energy of Ultra-High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) of different strength levels. With the introduction of steel fiber, an increase in all the investigated parameters is observed regardless of the strength of the concrete matrix. The most remarkable influence the fiber has on the splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and critical stress intensity coefficient, the increase is up to 1.6–3.2 times. There was a slight increase in compressive strength and elastic modulus—up to 5.0–7.4% depending on the composition. Poisson's ratio was equal to 0.2 regardless of the strength of the concrete matrix and the presence of steel fiber. Based on the test results, equations were proposed to predict the properties of UHPC and UHPFRC depending on the water–cement ratio, silica fume content, cement compressive strength and the volumetric content of corrugated steel fiber. The calculated and experimental values showed good convergence with a correlation coefficient in the range of 0.885–0.997.

Abstract:Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) is a new composite material that can significantly improve bond performance with steel bars. There is insufficient research on UHPC bond behavior under actual stress within structural members, which is critical for structure safety and economy. In this paper, 17 lap-spliced beams were tested to simulate flexural member bond conditions. The test parameters included UHPC compressive strength, cover depth, fiber content, splice length and stirrups in the spliced region. All specimens failed by the UHPC cover splitting crack. The beam without fiber experienced brittle splitting failure, while the beams with fibers experienced ductile splitting failure. The test results showed that increasing UHPC strength and cover depth could increase bond strength. The bond strength increased linearly with fiber content from 0% to 3% but decreased with 4% fiber content. Bond strength decreased linearly with splice length. Transverse reinforcement in the lap splice effectively improved bond strength; however, when the additional confinement reaches a limit, the increase in stirrups no longer improves UHPC bond stress. The experimental study established a formula for predicting UHPC bond splitting strength, considering the influence of the above parameters. The maximum limit of bond strength contributed by the stirrup was obtained. Finally, the development length calculation model applicable to UHPC was established by modifying the NC theory method. The proposed model was compared with current design methods, and the predicted values of the proposed model were closest to the experimental values.

Abstract:Ultrahigh performance concrete (UHPC) realized distinctly high mechanical, impermeability, and durability characteristics by reducing the size and content of capillary pore, refining the microstructure of cement hydrates, and effectively using fiber reinforcement. The dense and fine microstructure of UHPC favor its potential to effectively disperse and interact with nanomaterials, which could complement the reinforcing action of fibers in UHPC. An optimization experimental program was implemented in order to identify the optimum combination of steel fiber and relatively low-cost carbon nanofiber in UHPC. The optimum volume fractions of steel fiber and carbon nanofiber identified for balanced improvement of flexural strength, ductility, energy sorption capacity, impact, and abrasion resistance of UHPC were 1.1% and 0.04%, respectively. Desired complementary/synergistic actions of nanofibers and steel fibers in UHPC were detected, which were attributed to their reinforcing effects at different scales, and the potential benefits of nanofibers to interfacial bonding and pull-out behavior of fibers in UHPC. Modification techniques which enhanced the hydrophilicity and bonding potential of nanofibers to cement hydrates benefited their reinforcement efficiency in UHPC.

Abstract:Steel fibers in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) have been demonstrated to improve resistance to crack growth, decrease deflection, and increase fatigue life under cyclic loads. Using steel fibers as shear reinforcements, this paper investigates its effect on the postcracking shear fatigue behavior of nonstirrup UHPC beams. The study involved five UHPC beams comprising two static and three fatigue specimens to test the effects of the upper fatigue load, steel-fiber ratio, and stirrup ratio on the shear fatigue response. The test results showed that increasing the initial crack width in the nonstirrup UHPC beam from 0.05 to 0.2 mm (the equivalent of doubling the upper fatigue load) decreased the fatigue life from over two million to 24,875 cycles. The use of steel fibers in place of stirrups increased the residual-to-static strength and residual-to-initial stiffness ratios by 5% and 16%, respectively, after two million cycles. Compared with the specimen with stirrups, the steel-fiber-reinforced specimen had a lower midspan fatigue deflection-to-ultimate static deflection ratio owing to the relieved fatigue strain localization and increased tensile steel reinforcement-UHPC bond fatigue strength. The current codes predict the shear fatigue strength conservatively. A calculation model for accurately predicting fatigue deflection was proposed and compared with the existing test results. A future study on the wider parametric analysis and large-scale beam tests on the fatigue performance of these beams should be conducted.

Abstract:Herein, a practical ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) was created by adding two different shapes of steel fibers and curing them at ambient temperature using palygorskite-nanofiber (PN) as the modifier. The compressive strength, flexural strength, water absorption capacity, and porosity were analyzed to determine the effects of the steel fibers and PNs on the UHPC mechanical and physical properties. The steel fibers and PNs were found to improve these properties. The UHPC mechanical properties were outstanding at 1.5% fiber dosage, while physical properties were excellent at 1.0% fiber dosage. The mechanical and physical characteristics of UHPC were preferably at a PN dosage of 0.2% and the fiber dosage of 1.0%. The compressive and flexural strengths of straight-steel-fiber UHPC were 145.57 and 19.67 MPa, respectively, i.e., 42.0 and 109.4% higher than those of the reference specimens (i.e., those without fibers or PNs); the water absorption capacity and porosity decreased by 50.1 and 60.7%, respectively. The compressive and flexural strengths of hooked-end-steel-fiber UHPC were 18.3 and 96.0% higher than those of the reference specimens, respectively, and the water absorption capacity and porosity decreased by 43.2 and 29.8%, respectively. These results could provide vital information for the promotion and practical application of UHPC.
