Abstract:Background: This study, undertaken in Bangkok, Thailand, explored the extent to which paediatric residents in a non-Western setting experienced burnout and the potential association with factors in the medical educational climate and work-related quality of life. Methods: An exploratory sequential mixed methods design was employed in a cross-sectional study. The initial, quantitative phase used the validated Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Postgraduate Hospital Educational Environmental Measure (PHEEM) and Work-Related Quality of Life scale (WRQoL). Regression analysis was used to identify the correlation between burnout and educational climate. Thereafter, residents in all years with high levels of burnout on subscales were interviewed individually. Results: Forty-one paediatric residents completed the three questionnaires. None had high levels related to burnout in all three domains (emotional exhaustion, high level of depersonalization and perceived low personal accomplishment), seven (17%) showed high levels in two out of three domains. Emotional exhaustion and educational climate (perceptions of role autonomy, perceptions of teaching, perceptions of social support) were correlated with work-related quality of life. In the interviews, the main themes related to burnout were inappropriate tasks, teachers and teaching styles, the perception of knowledge insecurity relating to task performance, time dimensions, life crisis during training, role expectations and work allocation clarity, and facilities such as accommodation. Conclusions: The study, in a non-Western setting, demonstrated a positive relation between educational climate and work-related quality of life. To help reduce the risk of burnout, the following factors were identified: minimize unnecessary or duplicated workload, schedule time arrangements to avoid extension of regular duty hours, and clearly define role expectations. The impact of inappropriate tasks, teachers and teaching styles (including unsafe environment) on the incidence of burnout was also highlighted. Additional studies focusing on teaching styles, safe learning climate and mistreatment in a non-Western context are needed.

Abstract:Background: The British Precursor Protein (BRI2) influences Amyloid Precursor Protein metabolism. Results: BRI2 lowers β-amyloid peptide levels by increasing levels of secreted insulin degrading enzyme (IDE) in both cells and mice. Conclusion: BRI2 as a receptor protein regulates IDE levels and in turn promotes βamyloid degradation. Significance: Targeting the regulation of IDE may lead to new approaches to therapeutically address sporadic Alzheimer’s disease.

Abstract:Burnout has become a significant occupational concern for resident physicians, primarily attributed to chronic workplace stressors, inadequate work-life balance, high expectation from attending staffs, steep learning curve, and limited patient care experience. The study aimed to investigate the prevalence and associated factors of burnout in medical residents. This cross-sectional study was conducted online questionnaire of all specialists in a university hospital from September to October 2022. Burnout was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey for Medical Personnel. The data collection encompassed information on socio-demographics, working conditions, psychiatric issues, and medical errors as potential predictive variables. To analyze the association between these factors and burnout, a confounder summary score model was employed in four separate models utilizing multivariable logistic regression. A total of 238 participants, the average age of participants was 28.1 years (SD 2.7), and 56.2% of them were female. Weekly working hours averaged 75 (SD 21.8). Burnout prevalence was 46.3%. This prevalence was characterized by high levels of emotional exhaustion (57.1%) and depersonalization (36.1%), along with low levels of personal accomplishment (52.4%). Summary of association in each domain with burnout were as follow: demographic determinants, (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 2.80, 95% CI 1.68–4.64), working conditions (aOR 2.97, 95% CI 1.54–5.71), psychiatric determinants (aOR 2.47, 95% CI 1.77–3.45) medical errors (aOR 2.14, 95% CI 1.05–4.34). Medical residency training programs should provide a supportive system that actively monitors and addresses depressive symptoms. Implementing preventive measures, such as increasing pay rates, can play a role in mitigating burnout.

Abstract:Background: The widespread problem of burnout among healthcare workers is not only common but also a significant concern that impacts the entire healthcare system in Uganda. It is essential to understand the connection between burnout and quality of life among healthcare workers in the specific context of central Uganda, where healthcare professionals face high patient volumes, limited resources, exposure to infectious diseases, and socioeconomic challenges. This study examined the relationship between burnout and quality of life among healthcare workers in central Uganda. Methods: This research utilized a cross-sectional study conducted across various healthcare settings in central Uganda. The data were analyzed at descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate levels. The relationship between dependent and independent variables was evaluated using an independent t-test for binary variables and a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for categorical variables. Significance was determined with a reported p-value, with relationships deemed significant at p < 0.2. For multivariable analysis, multiple linear regression was employed using a forward selection method, with significance set at 5% (p < 0.05). Results: Our findings indicate that nearly 40% of healthcare workers reported experiencing high levels of burnout. The average score for overall quality of life was 10.71 (±4.89), with variations observed across different domains. The study reveals a significant connection between socio-demographic factors, burnout, and overall quality of life, emphasizing the impact of job category, supervisory support, sleep quality, and burnout on the well-being of healthcare workers. Predictive analysis illustrates how these factors influence both overall quality of life scores and scores in specific domains. Particularly noteworthy is that nurses and technicians tend to have a lower quality of life compared to physicians. Conclusion: The results underscore the relationship between socio-demographic factors, burnout, and particular aspects of quality of life. Notably, job category, supervisory support, sleep quality, and burnout stand out as significant factors shaping the well-being of healthcare workers. Nurses and technicians encounter distinct challenges, suggesting the need for interventions tailored to their needs. Addressing issues such as inadequate supervisory support, burnout, and sleep-related problems is recognized as a potential approach to improving the overall quality of life among healthcare workers.

Abstract:Background Burnout has adverse implications in healthcare settings, compromising patient care. Allied health professionals (AHPs) are defined as individuals who work collaboratively to deliver routine and essential healthcare services, excluding physicians and nurses. There is a lack of studies on burnout among AHPs in Singapore. This study explored factors associated with a self-reported burnout level and barriers to seeking psychological help among AHPs in Singapore. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study in a sample of AHPs in a tertiary hospital from October to December 2019. We emailed a four-component survey to 1127 eligible participants. The survey comprised four components: (1) sociodemographic characteristics, (2) Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS), (3) Areas of Worklife Survey, and (4) Perceived Barriers to Psychological Treatment (PBPT). We performed a multiple logistic regression analysis to identify factors associated with burnout. Adjusted odds ratios (AORs) and associated 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were computed. Results In total, 328 participants completed the questionnaire. The self-reported burnout level (emotional exhaustion>27 and/or depersonalization>10) was 67.4%. The majority of the respondents were female (83.9%), Singaporean (73.5%), aged 40 years and below (84.2%), and Chinese ethnicity (79.9%). In the multiple logistic regression model, high burnout level was negatively associated with being in the age groups of 31 to 40 (AOR 0.39, 95% CI 0.16–0.93) and 40 years and older (AOR 0.30, 95% CI 0.10–0.87) and a low self-reported workload (AOR 0.35, 95% CI 0.23–0.52). High burnout level was positively associated with a work experience of three to five years (AOR 5.27, 95% CI 1.44–20.93) and more than five years (AOR 4.24; 95% CI 1.16–16.79. One hundred and ninety participants completed the PBPT component. The most frequently cited barriers to seeking psychological help by participants with burnout ( n = 130) were ‘negative evaluation of therapy’ and ‘time constraints.’ Conclusions This study shows a high self-reported burnout level and identifies its associated factors among AHPs in a tertiary hospital. The findings revealed the urgency of addressing burnout in AHPs and the need for effective interventions to reduce burnout. Concurrently, proper consideration of the barriers to seeking help is warranted to improve AHPs' mental well-being.

Abstract:Problems with health-related quality of life can affect physicians' ability to work effectively. This study compared the health-related quality of life of Hong Kong physicians to the general population and explored the factors associated with mental and physical health-related quality of life. This cross-sectional study was conducted from January to April 2016. Medical graduates from the University of Hong Kong participated in a survey containing the Short Form-12 Item Health survey version 2, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Copenhagen Burnout Inventory, and items on lifestyle behaviors, career satisfaction, and socio-demographics. 496 responses were received. The mean physical component summary score was 53.2 (SD = 7.6), similar to the general population. The mean mental component summary score was 43.6 (SD = 11.8), significantly worse than the general population (P<0.01). Compared to the general population, all Short-Form 12 Health Survey version 2 domains were worse in doctors, aside from bodily pain and general health. Regular exercise was positively associated with physical component summary scores (Coeff 2.024; P = 0.047); but having children and higher personal burnout scores were negatively associated with it (Coeff -1.890; P = 0.036; and Coeff -0.045; P = 0.027, respectively). Poorer mental component summary scores correlated with worse personal (Coeff -0.284; P< 0.001), work-related (Coeff -0.135; P = 0.040), and patient-related burnout (Coeff -0.060; P = 0.041), and higher Patient Health Questionnaire-9 scores (Coeff -9.170; P<0.001). There were significant differences in mental health (P = 0.042) and mental component summary scores (P = 0.012) across age groups, but not with gender. Hong Kong physicians are less impacted by physical health than mental health. Compared to the general population, doctors' mental health has a more significant impact on their lives. Interventions aimed to improve burnout and depression rates in physicians may improve physicians' mental health-related quality of life.

Abstract:Abstract Background Burnout is a psychological condition induced by work-related chronic interpersonal stressors. Interventions creating a sense of belonging and collegiality have been proposed as approaches for alleviating burnout. The current study aimed to: (1) explore the relationships between burnout, sense of belonging (relatedness with others), and work engagement; and (2) identify the key elements perceived by undergraduate medical students as positively contributing to collegiality, engagement, and a sense of belonging, in an undergraduate medical training setting. Methods An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design using questionnaires and semi-structured individual interviews collected quantitative and qualitative data among undergraduate medical students at Mahidol University, Thailand. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey questionnaire was used to measure burnout. The Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction at Work Scale (BPNSS-21) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Student Version (UWESS-9) measured students’ basic psychological needs satisfaction at work and work engagement, respectively. Descriptive statistical analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed on BPNSS-21 and UWESS-9 data. Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used to identify the correlation between burnout and other factors. Twenty undergraduate medical students participated in the qualitative study. Qualitative analysis was conducted iteratively using constant comparison and the standard principles of primary, secondary, and tertiary coding for thematic analysis. Results Thai versions of the BPNSS-21 and UWESS-9 showed an acceptable fit for the Thai cultural context. Burnout had significant weak inverse associations with engagement (r = − 0.39, p < 0.005) and basic psychological needs satisfaction (r = − 0.37, p < 0.005). Sense of belonging had a significant weak inverse relationship with burnout (r = − 0.25, p < 0.005). The main themes emerging from qualitative analysis were relevant tasks and learning activities, safety in the learning environment, peer interaction, program design factors, dynamics of collegiality while progressing through medical school, and personal stance and social skills. Conclusions Sense of belonging, engagement, and collegiality were related to burnout. The key features for promoting collegiality, the sense of belonging, and engagement were relevant tasks and learning activities, safety in the learning environment, peer interaction, program design factors, dynamics of collegiality while progressing through medical school, and personal stance and social skills.

Abstract:BackgroundThe transition from medical school to internship can be daunting for newly qualified doctors. High rates of stress and burnout have been reported, with negative impacts on patient care and physician wellbeing.AimsWe surveyed interns in our hospital group to evaluate rates of stress and burnout, as well as identify the causative factors and propose potential solutions to these.MethodsA hundred and one interns working in four different hospitals over a 2-year period were invited to participate in an anonymous survey. The survey collected basic demographic details and surveyed aspects of mental health using the burnout scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and the stress scale and 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). Interns were also asked to rate a variety of workplace factors on a Likert scale based on the degree of stress caused. Finally, they were surveyed on their awareness of support services available to them.ResultsOur results showed that 37% of interns met the criteria for psychological distress, high levels of emotional exhaustion, high depersonalisation and a low sense of personal accomplishment were reported in 55.4, 51.5 and 41.6%, respectively. Inadequate preparation for practice, financial worries, poor role definition and sleep deprivation were reported as significant stressors. Most were unaware of available support services and expressed interest in leaving Ireland after internship.ConclusionsBurnout and stress are significant problems amongst doctors in Irish hospitals. Ensuring better preparation for clinical practice and awareness of support services is vital to tackle this issue.

Abstract:Abstract Background Clinician teachers (physicians who teach in clinical settings) experience considerable psychological challenges in providing both educational training and patient care. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of physician burnout and professional fulfillment, and to identify internal and external factors associated with mental health outcomes among Thai clinician teachers working in non-university teaching hospitals. Method A one-time online questionnaire was completed by physicians at 37 governmental, non-university teaching hospitals in Thailand, with 227 respondents being assessed in the main analyses. Four outcomes were evaluated including burnout, professional fulfillment, quality of life, and intentions to quit. Results The observed prevalence of professional fulfillment was 20%, and burnout was 30.7%. Hierarchical regression analysis showed a significant internal, psychological predictor (clinical teaching self-efficacy) and external, structural predictors (multiple roles at work, teaching support), controlling for the background variables of gender, years of teaching experience, family roles, and active chronic disease, with clinical teaching self-efficacy positively predicting professional fulfillment ( b = 0.29, p ≤.001) and negatively predicting burnout ( b = − 0.21, p =.003). Conclusions Results highlight the importance of faculty development initiatives to enhance clinical teaching self-efficacy and promote mental health among Thai physicians.

Abstract:UNLABELLED Oral Diseases (2010) 16, 781-787 OBJECTIVE: This study addressed the relationship between periodontal condition and second derivative of the finger photoplethysmogram (SDPTG) in Japanese adults. SUBJECT AND METHODS The Community Periodontal Index (CPI) and SDPTG were recorded in 415 subjects (mean age: 44.0 years). For assessing SDPTG, we mainly focused on the ratio of the absolute value of the height of the early negative 'b' wave and ratio of the late re-decreasing 'd' wave to the height of the initial positive 'a' wave, namely the b/a and d/a ratios. RESULTS The CPI score was positively correlated with the b/a ratio (P < 0.001), and negatively correlated with the d/a ratio (P < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that subjects with CPI scores ≥ 3 were more likely to have a higher level (male > -0.69, female > -0.64) of b/a ratio (Odds ratio = 1.7, P = 0.026) and lower level (male ≤ -0.29, female ≤ -0.32) of d/a ratio (Odds ratio = 2.2, P =0.001) than those with CPI scores 0-2, after adjusting for age, gender, smoking status, pulse rate and presence of hypertension. CONCLUSION There was a statistical association between the CPI scores and SDPTG indices in Japanese adults.

Abstract:Objective To estimate the prevalence and severity of burnout and explore the factors associated with burnout among Hong Kong medical graduates up to 20 years post-graduation. Design Cross-sectional survey. Setting Hong Kong. Participants Doctors who graduated from the University of Hong Kong between 1995 and 2014. Primary and secondary outcome measures Burnout as measured by the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), alcohol consumption as measured by the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test Version C, lifestyle behaviours (hours of sleep and work, exercise, smoking, substance use), career satisfaction and sociodemographic characteristics were obtained using paper or online questionnaires. Results Response rate was 30.9% (496/1607). Prevalence of CBI burnout was 63.1% (personal), 55.9% (work-related) and 35.4% (patient-related). The mean CBI subscale scores were 57.4±21.4 (personal), 48.9±7.4 (work-related) and 41.5±21.8 (client-related). Factors associated with personal and patient-related burnout included age (coeff −0.437, 95% CI −0.779 to −0.095 and coeff −0.596, 95% CI −0.965 to −0.228, respectively), practice setting (coeff −5.759, 95% CI −10.665 to −0.853 and coeff −5.317, 95% CI −10.602 to −0.032, respectively) and regular exercise (coeff −6.855, 95% CI −11.102 to −2.608 and coeff −6.769, 95% CI −11.333 to −2.205, respectively). Gender (coeff 5.1, 95% CI 1.382 to 8.818), average hours of sleep per night (coeff −5.200, 95% CI −7.139 to −3.262) and work hours per week (coeff 0.226, 95% CI 0.099 to 0.353) were associated with personal burnout only. No factors were significantly associated with work-related burnout. Conclusion Burnout is highly prevalent among Hong Kong medical graduates. Younger doctors, women and those working in the public sector appear to be at higher risk for burnout and may benefit from targeted interventions. Policymakers and healthcare authorities should consider measures to help reduce burnout by enabling adequate sleep, reducing work hours and encouraging exercise.

Abstract:Objective: to understand the present situation of job burnout among medical interns and to explore its major influencing factors. Methods: A stratified random sampling was used to select 1268 medical interns from 6 full-time medical colleges in Guangdong province. They were investigated with Maslach Burnout Inventor-General Survey, (MBI–GS), Questionnaire on Humanistic Care Ability of Medical Students (QHCAMS) and a self-compiled personal information questionnaire. Results: (1) The incidence of job burnout in this group was 98.40%. The total score of MBI–GS and the scores of emotional exhaustion, cynicism and reduced personal accomplishment were (45.27 ±12.61), (16.21 ±4.91), (12.91 ±3.93) and (18.15 ±5.22), respectively. (2) The result of multiple stepwise linear regression showed that gender, specialty, type of internship hospital, working department and average length of overtime per day were positively correlated with the total score of MBI-GS (β =.154~.676, all P < 0.01). Nine factors, such as self-evaluation of health status, ability to solve problems at work, relationship with patients, classmates and medical staff, as well as the scores of hope, honesty, humility and courage in HQCAMS, were negatively correlated with the total score of MBI-GS (β =-.148~-.468, all P < 0.01). Conclusion: Medical interns are suffering serious job burnouts, which may be related to work pressure, personal quality and other factors.
Effect of job satisfaction on burnout among physicians: A survey study in urban public medical institutions in Hubei province, China

Abstract:Objectives: Chinese physicians are being loaded with the enormous psychological pressure and so tend to be susceptible to burnout. Little is known on the relationship between job satisfaction and burnout for physicians from urban public medical institutions. We aim to describe the degree of burnout and evaluate the impact of job satisfaction on burnout. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in March 2010 in Hubei province, central China. The job satisfaction and burnout instruments were obtained by modifying the Chinese Physicians’ Job Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory, respectively. Such statistical methods as one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and GLM-univariate were employed. Results: The observed mean and burnout incidence on emotional exhaustion (3.45 ± 0.75, 66.99%) and depersonalization (3.56 ± 0.76, 68.64%) were high, but reduced personal accomplishment (2.18 ± 0.56, 5.79%) was low. The distribution of the degree of overall burnout was: 3.2% (severe), 48.2% (moderate), 35.4% (mild) and 13.2% (zero). Less the development level of urban area and higher the grade of medical institution was, more severe physicians’ burnout was. Job-itself satisfaction (b1 = -0.166, b2 = -0.056), job rewards satisfaction (b1 = -0.084, b2 = -0.150) and medical practicing environment satisfaction (b1 = -0.096, b2 = -0.319) were identified as significant negative predictors of emotional exhaustion (R2 = 0.35) and also of depersonalization (R2 = 0.46). Several, but not all dimensions of job satisfaction, which prove to have predictive effects on burnout, should be paid more attention to in order to improve physicians’ psychological health.

Abstract:Abstract Background Medical interns are at risk of burnout due to several organizational and individual factors. There is scarcity of studies exploring the role of chronic physical illness and job dissatisfaction on burnout experience among medical interns. This study examined the prevalence of burnout syndrome and explored whether chronic physical illness and job dissatisfaction could independently predict burnout syndrome among medical interns in Oman. This cross-sectional study was conducted among a random sample of medical interns enrolled in the Omani internship program. One-hundred and eighty interns participated in this study and filled in a self-reported questionnaire that included Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS), and data related to physical illness. Results The prevalence of burnout syndrome was 15%. Having a physical illness ( OR = 7.285, 95% CI = 1.976–26.857, P = 0.003) and job dissatisfaction ( OR = 16.488, 95% CI = 5.371–50.614, P = 0.0001) was significant independent predictors of high levels of the EE subscale. In addition, having a physical illness ( OR = 4.678, 95% CI = 1.498–14.608, P = 0.008) and being dissatisfied ( OR = 2.900, 95% CI = 11.159–7.257, P = 0.023) were significant independent predictors of the high DP subscale. Having physical illness was independent predictors of the low personal accomplishment subscale ( OR = 0.258, 95% CI = 0.088–0.759, P = 0.014). Conclusions Burnout syndrome is prevalent among medical interns in Oman. Job dissatisfaction and chronic physical illness are risk factors for burnout syndrome. Internship programs should consider these factors when designing burnout mitigative strategies.

Abstract:Background: Burnout is a syndrome that result from chronic workplace stress and it characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low personal accomplishments. Studies report higher burnout levels in medical personnel compared to the general population. Workplace burnout has been directly linked to medical errors and negative coping strategies such as substance abuse. The aims of this study were to assess the level of burnout in medical residents, evaluate their impressions about coping mechanisms and assess perceived impact on patient care in a low/ middle income country setting. Methods: This was a cross sectional, mixed methods survey carried out at Aga Khan University, Nairobi Kenya. The Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey was used to assess the level of burnout. High-risk scores for each subscale are defined as > 27 in emotional exhaustion, > 10 in depersonalization, and < 33 in personal accomplishment. Overall high risk of burnout was defined as high-risk scores in 2 or more of the 3 categories. Categorical variables were analysed using descriptive statistics and reported as frequency counts and corresponding percentages. Chi-square test was applied to test for association of burnout and the categorical variables. P value of < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. To assess the impressions on patient care and evaluate the coping mechanisms employed in the context of burnout residents participated in four focus group discussions reaching thematic saturation. Results: 95 out of 120 residents consented to participate in the study, 47.3% of whom had a high risk of burnout. A significant association was found between gender and burnout risk with more female residents having high risk of burnout compared to their male counterparts; 58.0% and 35.6% respectively (P value 0.029). Residents in paediatrics and child health had the greatest risk of burnout (8 out of 10) compared to those in other programmes (P value of 0.01). Thematic analysis from focus group discussions revealed that main sources of stress included departmental conflict and struggle to balance work and other aspects of life. All focus group discussions revealed that burnout and stress are associated with negative coping mechanisms. Respondents reported that when under stress, they felt more likely to make medical errors. Conclusion: This study reported high risk of burnout among post graduate residents which is consistent with other global studies. The sources of stress cited by residents were mostly related to the workplace and many perceived sub-optimal patients care resulted from burnout. This highlights a need for preventive measures such as wellness programs within the training programmes. Trial registration number: Not applicable.

Abstract:Introduction: burnout is a syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and emotional exhaustion that occurs due to exposure to stressful conditions over a long period. It can lead to poor job performance, apathy, and lack of productivity. This study looks at the prevalence of burnout in medical interns in a tertiary hospital in South Africa and the factors that may contribute to burnout. Methods: an analytical cross-sectional study was conducted. Medical interns working in Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in 2019 were invited to participate. The participants filled questionnaire that had demographic information, the Maslach Burnout Inventory Scale, a scale to rate the rotations that they believed contributed towards their burnout and factors they think contributed towards their burnout. Our data was analyzed using Stata. Results: out of a possible 165 potential participants, 101 medical interns enrolled. 95% of the participants reported burnout. Statistically significant factors contributing towards burnout were lack of resources and poor relations with support staff and senior staff. The medical rotation that was reported by the participants to contribute most towards their burnout was internal medicine. Conclusion: burnout in this population of medical interns is alarmingly high. Higher than reported in similar studies in South Africa and internationally.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the prevalence of burnout, its underlying personal or occupational stressors, and impact on individual well‐being and patient care. Design Cross‐sectional survey. Participants All emergency physicians in the public and the private sector in Hong Kong. Method Self‐administered, anonymous, voluntary questionnaires were distributed in physical and electronic forms from April to June 2022. Burnout was assessed by the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Stressors were assessed by questions on demographic, occupational, and social background. Impact was assessed by the Patient Health Questionnaire‐9 (PHQ‐9) for depression and questions on job satisfaction and self‐perceived patient care. Results The response rate was 37.8% (n = 241). Prevalence of high overall burnout was 28.2% (n = 68), with 47.7% (n = 115) having high emotional exhaustion, 63.1% (n = 152) high depersonalization, and 56% (n = 135) low personal accomplishment. A higher burnout rate was observed in younger age, female, not married, job position (associate consultant, resident specialist, and higher trainee), working on shift duty, more night shifts, and consecutive shifts.
