Abstract:Within the framework of the health-belief model, some studies exist investigating the association between illness-specific psychosocial factors and the use of cancer screenings. However, studies investigating the association between general psychosocial factors and the use of cancer screenings are missing. Thus, this study aimed at examining the association between well-established general psychosocial factors and the use of cancer screenings. Data were gathered from a large, population-based sample of community-dwelling individuals aged 40 and above in Germany (n = 7673; in 2014). Loneliness, cognitive well-being, affective well-being (negative and positive affect), optimism, self-efficacy, self-esteem, self-regulation, perceived autonomy, perceived stress, and perceived social exclusion were used as general psychosocial factors. Furthermore, individuals were asked whether they regularly underwent early cancer screening in the past years (yes; no). A total of 65.6% of the individuals used cancer screening. Adjusting for sociodemographic factors, self-rated health, morbidity and lifestyle factors, multiple logistic regressions revealed that the use of cancer screening is positively associated with decreased loneliness, cognitive well-being, optimism, self-efficacy, self-esteem, self-regulation, perceived autonomy, decreased perceived stress, decreased perceived social exclusion, and positive affect, while it is not associated with negative affect. This study stresses the strong association between general psychosocial factors and the use of cancer screening. This knowledge might be fruitful to address individuals at risk for underuse.
Cancer patient utilisation of psychological care in Germany: The role of attitudes towards seeking help

Abstract:Objective: Even if significantly distressed, many patients with cancer do not seek psychological help. There is growing evidence that attitudes are central barriers for help-seeking, and instruments to assess cancer patients' attitudes towards help-seeking are urgently needed. This study aimed to evaluate the German Attitudes towards Seeking Help after Cancer Scale (ASHCa-G) and investigated the relationship between patients' attitudes and psychological care utilisation. Methods: The ASHCa-G was presented to 270 patients with cancer (age 63.0 ± 12.7 years, 44.8% women). Item analyses, principal component analysis and associations with age, social support, help-seeking intention and psychological care utilisation were calculated. A hierarchical logistic regression was performed to ascertain the leading role of attitudes in explaining psychological care utilisation. Results: Principal component analysis supported a two-component solution, which showed good internal consistency for the positive attitudes (α = 0.80) and negative attitudes (α = 0.75) subscales. The associations with age, distress and help-seeking intention confirmed the validity of the ASHCa-G. Positive attitudes explained most variance of cancer patients' current psychological care utilisation. Conclusion: The ASHCa-G seems to be a reliable and valid questionnaire for assessing attitudes towards seeking psychological help among patients with cancer. Clinical practice might profit from identifying attitudinal barriers that hinder patients with cancer from seeking psychological help.
Understanding the Role of Cancer Diagnosis in the Associations between Personality and Life Satisfaction

Abstract:Life satisfaction refers to the degree a person enjoys their life. An integrated account of life satisfaction is discussed in the literature, which proposes that life satisfaction is made up of personality traits and areas of life satisfaction (e.g., satisfaction with health, job, and social life). In addition, disruptions in one domain (e.g., health) may disrupt the association between personality traits and life satisfaction. The current research was interested in if clinically diagnosed cancer could influence the association between the Big Five personality traits and life satisfaction. The current study analyzed data from 1214 people with a diagnosis of cancer (38.55% males) with an average age of 59.70 (S.D. = 15.53) years and 13,319 people without a cancer diagnosis (38.13% males) with an average age of 59.97 (S.D. = 11.10) years who participated in Understanding Society: the UK Household Longitudinal Study (UKHLS). For the first time, our study revealed that cancer markedly influences the relationship between Agreeableness and life satisfaction, after accounting for demographic variables. Neuroticism was negatively associated with life satisfaction in people with and without clinically diagnosed cancer, whereas Agreeableness and Extraversion were positively associated with life satisfaction in people with and without clinically diagnosed cancer. Openness and Conscientiousness were positively related to life satisfaction in people without cancer but were not significant predictors in people with cancer. Health professionals should develop strategies and interventions by fostering personality traits, including Agreeableness, Openness, Conscientiousness, and Extraversion, while reducing Neuroticism.

Abstract:Introduction: While ample data demonstrate the effectiveness of inpatient psychosomatic treatment, clinical observation and empirical evidence demonstrate that not all patients benefit equally from established therapeutic methods. Especially patients with a comorbid personality disorder often show reduced therapeutic success compared to other patient groups. Due to the heterogeneous and categorical personality assessment, previous studies indicated no uniform direction of this influence. This complicates the derivation of therapeutic recommendations for mental disorders with comorbid personality pathology. Methods: Analyzing n = 2094 patients from German university hospitals enrolled in the prospective "MEPP" study, we tested the dynamic interaction between dimensionally assessed personality functioning and psychopathology of anxiety and depression. Results: Longitudinal structural equation modelling replicated the finding that the severity of symptoms at admission predicts symptom improvement within the same symptom domain. In addition, we here report a significant coupling parameter between the baseline level of personality function and the change in general psychopathology - and vice versa. Discussion and conclusion: These results imply that personality pathology at admission hinders the therapeutic improvement in anxiety and depression, and that improvement of personality pathology is hindered by general psychopathology. Furthermore, the covariance between both domains supports the assumption that personality functioning and general psychopathology cannot be clearly distinguished and adversely influence each other. A dimensional assessment of the personality pathology is therefore recommendable for psychotherapy research and targeted therapeutic treatment.

Personality traits in cancer patients

Abstract:Background: This study was planned to investigate the personality traits of cancer patients in different treatment settings, and to correlate the demographics with the personality features. Materials and methods: A total of 237 patients referred either to Marmara University School of Medicine (MUSM) Oncology Outpatient Unit or to the private office of the faculty between March 10th and April 22nd, 2010 were enrolled in the study. The Big Five Mini Test was used to evaluate the 40 personality traits of the patients. Results: The study group consisted of 98 males (41.35%) and 139 females (58.65%) with a mean age of 51. Out of the 237, 73.9% had an educational level beyond the junior high school, and 47.3% of all patients reported a positive family history for cancer. A significant difference in terms of reconcilability, extraversion, and responsibility was observed between patients admitting to the university outpatient clinic and the private office (p<0.05). Reconcilability and extraversion were found to differ between genders significantly (p<0.05). The description of the patients by him/herself or by relatives displayed a significant difference in terms of openness (p<0.05). Parameters such as educational level, family history of cancer, age and marital status showed no relevance to their characters. No discordance was observed between the self-analysis of the patient and the patient's relatives. Conclusions: Patients with cancer are typically highly reconcilable and responsible, moderately stable, open and extraverted.

Abstract:Individuals and institutions around the world have been affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Herein, we investigate the role of basic (Big Five and HEXACO) and specific (Dark Factor of Personality, Narcissistic Rivalry, and Narcissistic Admiration) personality traits for 17 criteria related to COVID-19, grouped into (i) personal perceptions in terms of risks and worries about the disease, (ii) behavioral adjustments in terms of following health recommendations and hoarding, and (iii) societal evaluations in terms of the appropriateness of different measures and feelings of social cohesion. (Internal) Meta-analytic results across five samples from two countries (overall N = 19,718) show—next to gender and age effects—the importance of several traits, including Emotionality/Neuroticism for personal perceptions and anti- or prosocial traits for behavior in line with health recommendations. The investigation highlights the importance of individual differences in uncertain and changing situations in general and during the COVID-19 pandemic in particular.

Abstract:We propose a feature for action recognition called Trajectory-Set (TS), on top of the improved Dense Trajectory (iDT). The TS feature encodes only trajectories around densely sampled interest points, without any appearance features. Experimental results on the UCF50 action dataset demonstrates that TS is comparable to state-of-thearts, and outperforms iDT; the accuracy of 95.0%, compared to 91.7% by iDT. key words: action recognition, trajectory, improved Dense Trajectory

Abstract:Objectives: Self-efficacy for illness management is increasingly recognized as important for outcomes in cancer. We examined whether The Big Five personality dimensions were associated with self-efficacy for illness management and hypothesized that patients who were less neurotic and more conscientious would have better self-efficacy. Methods: Adults with cancer completed a cross-sectional survey that included the Mini-International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) and three subscales of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Self-Efficacy for Chronic Conditions: managing emotions, managing symptoms, and managing treatment and medication. Linear regressions were used to test the hypotheses, while controlling for covariates. Results: The personality and PROMIS self-efficacy measures demonstrated good evidence of reliability (median Cronbach's alpha = .78, range of .69-.92) and validity (intercorrelations). As hypothesized, patients who were less neurotic or more conscientious had higher levels of illness self-efficacy overall and on each of the three subscales (all ps < .001). Openness was associated with better self-management of symptoms (p = .013) and emotions (p = .040). Extraversion was associated with better self-management of emotions (p = .024). Conclusions: Personality plays a vital role in illness self-efficacy for patients with cancer. Practice implications: As a part of multidisciplinary care teams, psychosocial experts can use these findings to help patients better manage their illness.

Abstract:What's new? Depression, anxiety, and other psychosocial factors can affect behavior and physiological function in ways that potentially contribute to cancer. Whether these factors serve an etiological role in cancer development, however, remains uncertain. The present study investigated whether psychosocial factors interact with or modify the effects of health behaviors in relation to cancer incidence. A total of 744 combinations of psychosocial factors, health behaviors, and cancer outcomes were analyzed, and no interaction or effect modification was identified. The results suggest that people who experience psychosocial stress are not particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of unhealthy behaviors on cancer development. Depression, anxiety and other psychosocial factors are hypothesized to be involved in cancer development. We examined whether psychosocial factors interact with or modify the effects of health behaviors, such as smoking and alcohol use, in relation to cancer incidence. Two‐stage individual participant data meta‐analyses were performed based on 22 cohorts of the PSYchosocial factors and CAncer (PSY‐CA) study. We examined nine psychosocial factors (depression diagnosis, depression symptoms, anxiety diagnosis, anxiety symptoms, perceived social support, loss events, general distress, neuroticism, relationship status), seven health behaviors/behavior‐related factors (smoking, alcohol use, physical activity, body mass index, sedentary behavior, sleep quality, sleep duration) and seven cancer outcomes (overall cancer, smoking‐related, alcohol‐related, breast, lung, prostate, colorectal). Effects of the psychosocial factor, health behavior and their product term on cancer incidence were estimated using Cox regression. We pooled cohort‐specific estimates using multivariate random‐effects meta‐analyses. Additive and multiplicative interaction/effect modification was examined. This study involved 437,827 participants, 36,961 incident cancer diagnoses, and 4,749,481 person years of follow‐up. Out of 744 combinations of psychosocial factors, health behaviors, and cancer outcomes, we found no evidence of interaction. Effect modification was found for some combinations, but there were no clear patterns for any particular factors or outcomes involved. In this first large study to systematically examine potential interaction and effect modification, we found no evidence for psychosocial factors to interact with or modify health behaviors in relation to cancer incidence. The behavioral risk profile for cancer incidence is similar in people with and without psychosocial stress.

Abstract:The Big Five personality traits—neuroticism, extroversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness—represent continuous, individual features that affect a number of vital health aspects, including morbidity, self-reported health status, or lifestyle. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between the eating behaviors and engagement in physical activity of women with a hereditary predisposition to breast or ovarian cancer and the Big Five personality traits. A total of 357 women, participants of 'The National Program for Families With Genetic/Familial High Risk for Cancer', were included in the study. In the healthy group, the following statistically significant predictors were found in variables: agreeableness—meal frequency (β = 0.151; p = 0.030); neuroticism—consumption of fruits and vegetables (β = −0.177; p = 0.016) and cereal products (β = −0.223; p = 0.002); openness to experience—consumption of plant-based fats (β = 0.141; p = 0.034) and physical activity (β = 0.153; p = 0.021). In the cancer group, the frequency of dairy consumption (β = 0.286; p = 0.003) and physical activity (β = 0.370; p = 0.000) were found to be statistically significant predictors for the openness to experience variable. Neuroticism is associated with less frequent consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as cereal products. Openness to experience was more often linked with a higher frequency of dairy consumption, plant-based fats, and physical activity. Women with breast or ovarian cancer and a higher openness to experience consumed dairy and engaged in physical activity more often than their peers with the remaining personality traits.

Abstract:Abstract Few studies have investigated psychosocial characteristics and lifestyle behaviors of participants at programs for secondary prevention of colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed, through a comprehensive psychosomatic assessment based on clinimetric principles, to evaluate psychosocial characteristics and lifestyle behaviors in participants at CRC secondary prevention program, and to investigate the associations between these variables and endoscopic outcomes. In this cross-sectional study, the first 150 consecutive asymptomatic participants at the CRC prevention program who resulted positive to fecal occult blood test (FOBT) and were thus referred to colonoscopy, underwent a psychosomatic assessment including psychiatric diagnoses (DSM-5), psychosomatic syndromes (DCPR-R), psychological distress, psychological well-being and lifestyle behaviors. Whereas only 5.3% of the sample showed at least one DSM-5 diagnosis, 51.3% showed at least one DCPR syndrome, such as allostatic overload, alexithymia, Type A behavior, and demoralization. Patients affected by psychosomatic syndromes presented with significantly higher psychological distress, lower psychological well-being and unhealthy lifestyle behaviors, such as tobacco smoking and unhealthy diet, in comparison with patients without DCPR syndromes. Among endoscopic outcomes, the presence of adenomas was significantly associated with DCPR irritable mood. In a clinical context of secondary prevention addressing asymptomatic patients with positive FOBT, a comprehensive psychosomatic assessment may provide relevant clinical information for those patients who present certain psychosomatic syndromes associated with high psychological distress, impaired psychological well-being, unhealthy lifestyle behaviors and colorectal precancerous lesions. The results of the present study indicate a road to the practice of “preventive” medicine at CRC screening program.

Abstract:There is a growing focus on person-centered care, emphasizing the importance of respecting inter-individual differences and implementing individualized treatment initiatives. Prior research has established an association between personality traits, body mass index, and health-related behaviors. The aim of this study was to explore the potential of personality trait assessments in identifying individuals at risk of glycemic dysregulation and increasing BMI. This cross-sectional study used a dataset comprising 140 participants with diabetes who completed the Big Five personality trait questionnaire from the Lolland-Falster Health Study. Logistic regression was used to investigate associations between personality traits, glycemic control, and BMI ≥ 25. No significant associations between personality traits and glycemic control were found. There was a significant association between agreeableness and lower odds of BMI ≥ 25 in the unadjusted analysis (OR 0.54 (0.34–0.86)), which persisted after adjusting for sex, age, and education (OR 0.54 (0.33–0.89)). No significant association between glycemic control and personality traits was observed in this small sample study. However, higher levels of agreeableness were associated with a lower likelihood of having a BMI of ≥25. This preliminary study suggests that integrating personality assessments could help identify individuals at risk of increasing BMI. These findings highlight the potential of using personality traits to guide targeted interventions, offering a direction for future research.

Correlation between colonoscopy difficulty and personality traits: study protocol for a prospective, observational, multicentre study

Abstract:Background Colonoscopy is widely used for screening and treatment of early colonic lesions and is critical for the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer. However, due to its invasive nature, colonoscopy can cause pain and discomfort for patients and is often associated with prolonged insertion times or failed attempts. Difficult colonoscopy is characterised by a caecal insertion time greater than 10 min, multiple insertion attempts or failed insertion, with an incidence rate of approximately 25%. Studies have shown that objective factors such as gender, age, body mass index, bowel preparation quality and history of abdominal or pelvic surgery can make colonoscopy difficult. Integrating clinical evidence and the established impact of personality traits on certain gastrointestinal conditions, a patient's personality traits and emotional and psychological states may also influence caecal insertion time during colonoscopy. Currently, no studies have investigated the predictive role of patients' personality on the difficulty of colonoscopy. This study used the Chinese-Language 44-Item Big Five Personality Inventory to assess patients' personality traits, aiming to observe whether there is a correlation between the degree of difficulty of colonoscopy and any of the personality traits. Methods and analysis This is a prospective, observational, multicentre study. Patients undergoing colonoscopy will be required to complete the Big Five Inventory, the General Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale and the Patient Health Questionnaire 9-item Depression Scale before colonoscopy. During the colonoscopy, the endoscopist will record the primary endpoint of caecal insertion time. The Boston Bowel Preparation Scale, patients pain scores and willingness to undergo a subsequent colonoscopy will be recorded as the secondary endpoints. The study plans to enrol a total of 322 patients. Survival analysis will be used to examine the correlation between colonoscopy difficulty and the Big Five personality traits. Ethics and dissemination This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Peking Union Medical College Hospital (No. K2128). All participants in this study will provide written informed consent. The results of this study will be published in an open-access way. There is no independent data monitoring committee because this is an observational and low-risk study. Trial registration number NCT05584423.

Abstract:Continuing concern over the possible carcinogenic effects of low-level radiation prompted us to study the population of Utah because of its exposure to fallout from 26 nuclear tests between 1951 and 1958. Certain rural counties (high-fallout counties) received most of the fallout during that period. We reviewed all deaths from childhood (under 15 years of age) cancers occurring in the entire state between 1944 and 1975 and assigned them to a cohort of either high or low exposure, depending on whether 15 between 1951 and 1958. For reasons unknown, leukemia mortality among the low-exposure cohort in the high-fallout counties was about half that of the United States and the remainder of the state. Mortality increased by 2.44 times (95 per cent confidence, 1.18 to 5.02) to just slightly above that of the United States in the high-exposure cohort residing in the high-fallout counties, and was greatest in 10- to 14-year-old children. For other childhood cancers, no consistent pattern was found in relation to fallout exposure. The increase in leukemia deaths could be due to fallout or to some other unexplained factor.

Abstract:Background Personality traits have been associated with eating disorders (EDs) and comorbidities. However, it is unclear which personality profiles are premorbid risk rather than diagnostic markers. Methods We explored associations between personality and ED-related mental health symptoms using canonical correlation analyses. We investigated personality risk profiles in a longitudinal sample, associating personality at age 14 with onset of mental health symptoms at ages 16 or 19. Diagnostic markers were identified in a sample of young adults with anorexia nervosa (AN, n = 58) or bulimia nervosa (BN, n = 63) and healthy controls ( n = 47). Results Two significant premorbid risk profiles were identified, successively explaining 7.93 % and 5.60 % of shared variance ( R c 2 ). The first combined neuroticism (canonical loading, r s = 0.68), openness ( r s = 0.32), impulsivity ( r s = 0.29), and conscientiousness ( r s = 0.27), with future onset of anxiety symptoms ( r s = 0.87) and dieting ( r s = 0.58). The other, combined lower agreeableness ( r s = −0.60) and lower anxiety sensitivity ( r s = −0.47), with future deliberate self-harm ( r s = 0.76) and purging ( r s = 0.55). Personality profiles associated with "core psychopathology" in both AN ( R c 2 = 80.56 %) and BN diagnoses ( R c 2 = 64.38 %) comprised hopelessness ( r s = 0.95, 0.87) and neuroticism ( r s = 0.93, 0.94). For BN, this profile also included impulsivity ( r s = 0.60). Additionally, extraversion ( r s = 0.41) was associated with lower depressive risk in BN. Limitations The samples were not ethnically diverse. The clinical cohort included only females. There was non-random attrition in the longitudinal sample. Conclusions The results suggest neuroticism and impulsivity as risk and diagnostic markers for EDs, with neuroticism and hopelessness as shared diagnostic markers. They may inform the design of more personalised prevention and intervention strategies.

Abstract:Considerable evidence links the "Big Five" personality traits (neuroticism, extroversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and openness) with depression. However, potential mediating and moderating factors are less well understood. We utilized data from a cross-sectional survey of 3065 German-speaking adults from the D-A-CH region to estimate multivariable-adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervalsbetween personality traits and lifetime prevalence of depression (overall and stratified by sex and age). We further explored proportions mediated by psychosocial factors optimism, empathy, perspective-taking, work-life balance, and interpersonal trust. High levels of neuroticism were associated with more than two-fold higher odds of depression, whereas higher levels of conscientiousness were associated with approximately 30% lower odds of depression. The association with neuroticism persisted in all investigated subgroups; apparently, stronger associations for females and participants aged ≥60 years did not correspond to statistically significant interactions. Overall and across all strata, the association of neuroticism with depression appeared to be mediated in part by the considered psychosocial factors; optimism explained the largest proportion of the association. Our results provide empirical evidence for the dynamic predisposition model. Further investigations of these relationships are warranted in longitudinal data with more precise outcome assessments.

Abstract:Objective To test whether a personality feedback intervention improves three domains of cancer self‐management: self‐awareness, self‐efficacy, and positive affect. Methods From 11/2020‐02/2021, 372 adults diagnosed with cancer participated in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of an intervention that entailed reading a brief personality‐related excerpt during an online survey. Eligibility included self‐reported age ≥ 18 years, current or past cancer diagnosis, and ability to read English. The survey included a baseline assessment with a personality questionnaire, then randomized participants to one of two groups. The intervention group (n = 184) received a personality feedback report with tailored self‐care tips, whereas the control group (n = 188) received a generic reading on personality theory. At the end of the survey, participants completed outcome measures of self‐awareness (primary), self‐efficacy for illness management, and positive affect. General linear models tested between‐group differences in changes from baseline to post‐test on each outcome. Results There was no intervention effect on self‐awareness (primary outcome) or positive affect. However, compared to controls, intervention participants experienced a greater increase in self‐efficacy for illness management (d = 0.33, p = 0.002), including in 2 of 3 constituent domains: self‐efficacy for managing symptoms (d = 0.36, p

Abstract:Introduction: This study aimed to investigate profiles of personality evaluated by temperament and character dimensions (TCI) in 638 adult and older adult patients (CP) who had recently been diagnosed with breast, colon, lung, and other kinds of cancer (female and male subjects were assessed). Tests: Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI). Statistical analysis: cluster K-means analysis for personality traits. Results: Two different personality profiles emerged: "Low self-determination and pessimism" (Profile 1) and "Self-determination and self-caring (medium)" (Profile 2). The following significant differences were observed in the TCI dimensions between the two profiles: Temperament-Novelty-Seeking (NS) ( p < 0.001); Harm-Avoidance (HA) ( p < 0.001); Reward-Dependence (RD) ( p < 0.001); Persistence (PS) ( p < 0.001); Character-Self-Directness (SD) ( p < 0.001); Cooperativeness (C) ( p > 0.001); Self-Transcendence (ST) ( p < 0.001). No differences in the two profiles were found between adult and elderly patients. Profile 1 - "Low self-determination and pessimism": Patients with this profile present low resistance to frustration, poor search for novelty and solutions (NS), anxiety and pessimism (medium HA), high social attachment and dependence on the approval of others (medium-high RD), and low self-determination (PS) as temperament dimensions; and medium-low self-direction, low autonomy and ability to adapt (SD-medium-low), medium cooperativeness (C), and low self-transcendence (ST) as character dimensions. Profile 2 - "Self-determination and self-caring (medium)": Patients with this profile have resistance to frustration, ability to search for novelty and solutions (medium-NS), low anxiety and pessimism (HA), low social attachment and dependence on approval (medium-low-RD), and determination (medium-high PS) as dimensions of temperament; and autonomy and capacity for adaptation and self-direction (SD), capacity for cooperation (high-CO), and self-transcendence (medium-high-ST) as character dimensions. Conclusion: Personality screening allows a better understanding of the difficulties of the individual patient and the planning of targeted psychotherapeutic interventions that promote quality of life and good adaptation to the disease course.

Abstract:Objective The goal of the present research was to test the retrospective and prospective associations between the Big Five personality traits and clinical diagnosis of angina while controlling for demographic characteristics. Methods Data from middle-aged and older adults from a cohort study Understanding Society: the UK Household Longitudinal Study (UKHLS) were extracted and analyzed using binary logistic regressions ( N = 10,124 for the retrospective study and N = 5485 for the prospective study). Personality was measured using a self-report 15-item version of the Big Five inventory between 2011 and 2012. Angina was measured by a self-report clinical diagnosis history question in each wave from until 2019. Covariates in our models included age, sex, income (monthly), education, and marital status. Results Neuroticism was positively related to the likelihood of clinical angina diagnosis in both the retrospective (OR = 1.22, 95% C.I. [1.11, 1.34]) and the prospective (OR = 1.52, 95% C.I. [1.19, 1.94]) study whereas Extraversion had a positive association with odds of angina (OR = 1.52, 95% C.I. [1.17, 1.97]) in the prospective study only. The negative association between Openness and clinical angina diagnosis in the cross-sectional analysis is borderline significant (OR = 0.91, p = 0.048, 95% C.I. [0.83, 1.00]). Conclusion Our research indicated that personality traits are associated with the risk of angina. These findings emphasize the importance of considering personality traits in understanding the etiology of angina and potentially informing personalized prevention and intervention strategies.
