Abstract:We examined the factor structure, reliability, and validity of the Chinese version of the Personal Growth Initiative Scale–II (CPGIS–II) using data from a sample of 927 Chinese university students. Consistent with previous findings, confirmatory factor analyses supported a 4-factor model of the CPGIS–II. Reliability analyses indicated that the 4 CPGIS–II subscales, namely Readiness for Change, Planfulness, Using Resources, and Intentional Behavior, demonstrated good internal consistency reliability and adequate test–retest reliability across a 4-week period. In addition, evidence for convergent and incremental validity was found in relation to measures of positive and negative psychological adjustment. Finally, results of hierarchical regression analyses indicated that the 4 personal growth initiative dimensions, especially planfulness, accounted for additional unique variance in psychological adjustment beyond resilience. Some implications for using the CPGIS–II in Chinese are discussed.

Abstract:Journal of Career Assessment, Ahead of Print. The present study aims to validate the Chinese version of the Work Volition Scales (WVS), an instrument that assesses three components of work volition: volition, financial constraint, and construct constraint. In Study 1 (N = 498), the WVS was translated into Chinese, and an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted resulting in that three factors were consistent with the original scale. In Study 2 (N = 442), the confirmatory factor analysis showed that the bifactor model provided the most parsimonious fit to the data. The measurement invariance test then revealed that the WVS is equivalent across gender, age, education level, and job tenure. In addition, convergent and concurrent validity supported the finding that the WVS and three subscales are linked with related variables. The results support significant incremental validity in predicting career satisfaction, meaningful work, and life well-being. The findings suggest that the WVS is a valuable instrument for researchers and career counselors who seek to explore work volition among Chinese working adults.

Abstract:This research revised Wong and Law’s (2002) Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS), and specifically examined the feasibility of its use with Chinese university students. The participants were 1458 university students in two cities in China (Beijing and Shandong province) and results showed that the Chinese version of the WLEIS retained a four-factor structure. The scale had acceptable reliability, concurrent validity, convergent and discriminant validity. The psychometric features of the Chinese scale supported its feasibility as a research instrument to measure EI appropriately in Chinese university students. The results also showed that Chinese male students had higher EI scores than female students, reflecting a deviation from previous research.

Abstract:Journal of Career Assessment, Ahead of Print. To facilitate future research on career adaptability, this study aims to validate the super-short form of the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS-SSF) through two studies across three samples. In Study 1, the full scale is shortened to a 4-item scale based on a Chinese sample (Sample 1, N = 616), considering both reliability and validity. Study 2 aims to validate the 4-item CAAS-SSF across two additional samples: Sample 2 in China (N = 332) and Sample 3 in the United Kingdom (N = 317). Results show that the CAAS-SSF demonstrates satisfactory reliability and good fit with the unidimensional model of career adaptability. Furthermore, the super-short scale exhibits acceptable measurement invariance across gender and culture groups. Moreover, criterion-related validity of the CAAS-SSF is supported by its positive correlations with criterions (i.e., job performance, career satisfaction, and occupational self-efficacy) that parallel results of the CAAS and CAAS-Short Form. Overall, the findings support the CAAS-SSF as a reliable and valid representation of the 24-item CAAS. Limitations and directions for future research are also discussed.

Abstract:Background The number of students enrolled in higher education in China accounts for more than one-fifth of the world, and universities, as a community of faculty, staff and scholars, currently do not have a scale that specifically assesses the well-being of the population in the environment of Chinese universities. However, the University of Pittsburgh has developed a comprehensive well-being scale, referred to as the Pitt Wellness Scale, specifically to measure people’s well-being in a university environment. Aims Investigate the psychometric properties of the Pitt Wellness Scale in Chinese university environmental samples. Methods The original scale was culturally adapted and modified through expert consultation, a random sample of 1870 current faculty, staff, and students were selected for the questionnaire survey. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to investigate the potential factor structure of the Chinese Revision of the Pitt Wellness Scale and to measure its reliability and validity. Finally, the factors that affect people’s well-being in the Chinese university environment were explored. Results The Chinese Revision of the Pitt Wellness Scale retained 30 items, and the EFA supports a five-factor structure, which differed from the results of the original scale, and the CFA results showed that the model fitted well. The discriminant validity of the modified Chinese scale was excellent. The overall Omega coefficient of the scale was 0.958, and the reliability of the retest after 4 weeks was 0.821. Conclusion The Chinese Revision of the Pitt Wellness Scale possesses satisfactory psychometric properties, and it can be considered an instrument for assessing personal well-being in Chinese university environment.

Abstract:Given the urgent issue of teachers' difficulty in adapting to the needs of talent cultivation in the new era and the important role of normal students in future basic education, it is important to integrate career adaptability into the talent cultivation goals and curriculum goals of normal students to reshape and enhance their career adaptability. However, a psychometrically sound measure of the newly developed career adaptability that is in line with national policies, labor market demands, and normal students' practical needs is lacking. The study reported here developed and validated a 25-item Chinese version of the Normal Students' Career Adaptability Scale (NSCAS) with five factors. Exploratory ( N = 301) and confirmatory ( N = 1372) factor analyses indicated: (a) five types of career adaptability resources were supported; (b) a bi-factor model showed the best fit among the four competing models, in which the general factor explained more common variance than the five sub-factors; (c) good reliability and validity; (d) measurement invariance across origin, gender, and professional attribute groups. The findings supported the psychometric properties of the newly developed NSCAS. Therefore, this study provides a measure of normal students' career adaptability for future research and practice and highlights career adaptability as an important adaptability resource.

Abstract:In recent years, the number of graduates in employment has increased significantly because of a boom in the number of graduates along with the advancement of the Enrollment Expansion Plan of Colleges and Universities in China. The issues about career selection and graduate employment have been enthusiastically discussed in academic circles as these issues are constantly emphasized by all walks of life. However, academic researchers often neglect matters pertaining graduates when they are already holding positions. This study believes that being employed is not the end point, but a new start, which means that matters pertaining graduates after being employed should also be cared about. This study specifically focuses on the post adaptability of graduates after being employed. In this study, through questionnaires, a number of employed Business English majors from the graduating class of 2011 to 2016 at H university in Shaanxi Province were selected. After that, using the variables from The Fitness Subscale of Adolescent Mental Health Quality Questionnaire, the participants’ post adaptability was studied.

Abstract:A verbal short-term memory task and a spatial short-term memory task were performed alone and concurrently. Stimuli for the verbal task were presented either visually or auditorily; responses were made either manually or vocally. The effect of the four different stimulus and response mode combinations on single- and dual-task performance was examined. The effect of asymmetric transfer on dual-task performance was also investigated. Twelve male subjects performed the verbal task using visual stimuli presented on a CRT. A second group of 12 males performed the verbal task using auditory stimuli presented by a voice-generation system. Abstract:Purpose: The objectives of this study were to examine the psychometric properties of the Uncertainty Stress Scale (USS) and to compare the usefulness of two versions of the scale (USS-4 and USS-10) among a large community-based sample of Chinese adults. Participants and Methods: The Uncertainty Stress Scale was validated in 904 community residents (mean age: 32.71 +/- 10.99; male: 41.7%) through an online survey conducted in February 2020. Psychometric properties of reliability (Cronbach's alpha), construct validity (confirmatory factor analysis), and criterion validity (correlation and ROC curve analyses) were evaluated using established benchmarks. To validate the USS, we used the Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Scale (CPSS). In addition, sensitivity, specificity, and suitable cutoff values of the two versions of USS were determined. Results: Both versions of the USS had high internal consistency (USS-10: 0.941; USS-4: 0.851). Confirmatory factor analyses supported a one-factor structure for both measures. Both USS-4 and USS-10 scores were significantly positively correlated with CPSS Conclusion: The findings of the current study confirmed that the psychometric properties of two Chinese versions of USS are acceptable. Furthermore, the 4-item USS was as effective as the 10-item USS for the measurement of uncertainty stress in our community-based sample of Chinese adults suggesting that the USS-4 is a time-efficient alternative to the USS-10 which can be used when the circumstances require a time-efficient instrument (eg, in epidemiological studies with a large test battery).
The Relationships Between University Student's Employability with Subjective and Objective Job-search Performance：Liner and Invert-U Relationships

Abstract:The employment issue of university students is one of the most critical questions in China. Employability of university students is a decisive factor in their employment. The focus of studies on employability has changed from individuals with disabilities to common people. However, most prior studies on Chinese university students have focused on the effect of the ability factors on employability, but neglected other important factors. The research has two studies. The first one is to explore the construct of university student’s employability model. The research methods adopted in the first study include a literature review, interview, pilot study, and survey. Based on the literature review and a pilot study, the items of university student’s employability were explored. The survey data were from 1190 university students in 10 universities of different kinds from different districts in China. The survey data were used to conduct the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results showed that employability of Chinese university students was a multi-dimensional construct, which is comprised of 8 factors: interpersonal relationship, team cooperation, learning, resolving problems, social support, network difference, optimistic and open, and career identification. USEQ (University Student’s Employability Questionnaire) had high validity and reliability. The second study is to examine the effectiveness of university student’s employability on their subjective and objective (quantity of job offers) job-search performance. The survey data were 530 questionnaires from university students and their classmates/teachers of 12 Chinese universities. Hierarchical aggression analysis (HAR) was done between university student’s employability (Time 1) and objective job-search performance (Time 2: two weeks after the Time 1) and classmate/teacher-rated job-search performance. The results of the second study showed that university student’s employability was significantly and positively correlated with subjective job-research performance, however there was a invert-U relationship between university student’s employability and offers (objective). And the results also showed that career exploration is moderating the relationship between university student’s employability and offers. This means that the invert-U relationship between employability and offers was significant for high level of career exploration, but not significant for low level of career exploration. But career exploration was not found to moderate the relationship between employability and subjective job-search performance. At last, native place was found to moderate the relationship between employability and subjective job-search performance; that is to say, the relationship between employability and subjective job-search performance was significant for university students from the countryside, but not for the university students from city area. And native place was a moderator in the invert-U relationship between university student’s employability and offers. This means that the invert-U relationship between employability and offers was significant for the city university students, but not for the countryside university students. In the future, the construct model of Chinese university’s employability could be tested in the universities of different style, and by such research methods as a longitudinal research design or case study. And the dynamic relationship model between university student’s employability and employment success could be constructed and tested according to the attribute theory or personal capital theory. And the different moderating and mediating influence mechanisms need to be explored in the relationships between university students’ employability and objective and subjective employment performance according to the career information process theory and resource conservation theory to better cast light on the complex mechanisms of university student’s employability by organizations and labor.

Abstract:Introduction: With social changes, the realization of smooth and satisfactory employment of college students is an issue that requires deep thought. Basic psychological needs satisfaction play an important role as a guiding factor that affects students' career adaptability. This study aims to explore the relationship and mechanism between the satisfaction of students' basic psychological needs satisfaction and their career adaptability. Methods: A survey is conducted among students from six different universities across the country, using the Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction Scale, the Career Adaptability Scale, the Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Career Outcome Expectations Scale. Results: The satisfaction of basic psychological needs, career decision self-efficacy, and career outcome expectations are all significantly positively correlated with career adaptability.Career decision self-efficacy plays a partial mediating role between basic psychological needs satisfaction and career adaptability among college students. The moderated mediation model found that career outcome expectations play a regulatory role in the effect of career decision self-efficacy on career adaptability. Discussion: College students' basic psychological need satisfaction can positively predict career adaptability directly and indirectly affect career adaptability through career decision self-efficacy, and career outcome expectations have a moderating role between career decision self-efficacy and career adaptability.

Abstract:Journal of Career Development, Ahead of Print. The present study aims to translate the Family-Supportive Coworker Behavior (FSCB) Scale into Chinese version (FSCB-C) and examine its reliability and validity through two studies. In Study 1 (N = 392), the exploratory factor analysis was conducted, which confirmed that the two-factor structure was consistent with the original scale. In Study 2 (N = 374), two-wave data was collected for confirmatory factor analysis and the results showed that the two-factor model was a good fit. Furthermore, the measurement invariance results displayed that the FSCB-C was equivalent across gender, age, education level, and job tenure. Additionally, the convergent validity and predictive validity were also demonstrated. The results showed that the FSCB-C could significantly predict job satisfaction, altruism towards colleagues, job stress, work-family conflict, and turnover intention. These findings provide evidence that the Chinese version of the FSCB scale is a valuable instrument.

Abstract:Objective: This study aims to explore Chinese university students' multicultural personalities and examine how they predict the psychological adjustment of students in Shanghai. In addition, the validation of Multicultural Personality Questionnaire Short Form (MPQ-SF) scale developed to assess the multicultural personality traits of individuals is also aimed in Chinese context. Data were collected after the psychological stresses from restrictions imposed by COVID-19 in China that influenced life adjustments for nearly three years. Method: A total of 1,099 university students participated in this multi-stage study. First, the Chinese version of MPQ-SF (MPQ-SF-C) was developed and validated. The impact of MPQ-SF-C dimensions was then tested through path analysis to establish the effects of Chinese university students' multicultural personality traits on their psychological adjustment using the Schwartz Outcome Scale (SOS-10). Results: The MPQ-SF-C yielded a five-factor solution which accounted for 60.14% of the common variance. The findings indicated that cultural empathy (β = 0.23, p < 0.05), certainty seeking (β = 0.13, p < 0.05), open-mindedness (β = 0.48, p < 0.05), and emotional stability (β = 0.24, p < 0.05) had significant influences on adjustment. Only flexibility was found to have a statistically insignificant impact on adjustment at this time in this context. MPQ-SF-C and SOS-10 scales represented very good psychometric properties in terms of their reliability and validity. Conclusion: The MPQ-SF-C shows good psychometric properties and appropriateness for evaluating multicultural personalities in Chinese contexts. The multicultural personality characteristics of university students using this scale well predicted their psychological adjustment.

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of employability and success among workforce education and development (WED) graduates. A quantitative study was conducted through the administration of an online survey to graduates (<i>N</i> = 85) of a WED program located within a midwestern, state university. The survey included demographic questions and a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 14 items from Rothwell and Arnold's self-perceived individual employability scales (2007). A principal components analysis was conducted to explore and confirm the related measures. Ordinary least squares regression was used to evaluate the relationship between the graduates' perceptions of their employability and career success and other demographic variables. The results of this study may be useful to public administrators, higher education institutions, WED faculty, human resource development professionals, students, and researchers.
The Reliability and Validity of a Chinese Version of the College Students' Career Maturity Inventory

Abstract:A Korean version of the Student Career Maturity Inventory was introduced and revised based on a survey on a Chinese sample of 375 students at Peking University. The paper discusses its fitness to Chinese college students. The Chinese Student Career Maturity Inventory (CSCMI) is of Chinese cultural features. The CSCMI, which consists of 34 items, includes such six factors as Career Decisiveness, Career Confidence, Career Value, Career Independence, Relational dependence, and Career Reference. The inventory has reasonable inner consistence, Split half, and retesting reliability. High CSCMI participants have more sense of control in term of locus of control, experience better well-being, and have higher levels of self-esteem. High CSCMI participants are also more satisfied with their academic study, feel more certain about their future, and prove more confident of making the right choices on career. High CSCMI students spend less time on internet surfing, and just take it to assist their academic study or daily life if they do surf on the internet sometimes.

Abstract:Background: Amidst the expansion of student enrollment in higher education, the well-being and retention rates of students have emerged as important concerns. Resilience, especially academic resilience, a multidimensional construct that can lead to academic success in adversity, is pivotal in enabling students to successfully cope with academic challenges. While the Academic Resilience Scale-30 (ARS-30) has been validated as an effective instrument in various languages, its applicability for Chinese students in higher education remains unexplored. Objective: This study aims to translate and validate the ARS-30 in Chinese, assessing its reliability and validity among Chinese college students in higher education. Methods: A convenience sample of 1,542 students participated in this study. The inventory included the demographic form, Chinese version of ARS-30 (C-ARS-30), 10-item Connor Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), and General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES). The assessment of validity was conducted by analyzing content validity, construct validity, convergent and discriminant validity, as well as criterion-related validity. Construct validity was evaluated through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM). Reliability analysis was performed using Cronbach's alpha and test-retest reliability. Results: The C-ARS-30 demonstrated commendable content validity, with the CVI value of items ranging from 0.833 to 1.000, and a total scale CVI of 0.986. ESEM analysis revealed a solid four-factor structure, maintaining the scale's 30 items with excellent fit indices (χ2/df = 2.647, CFI = 0.937, TLI = 0.915, RMSEA = 0.057, SRMR = 0.027). The total score of C-ARS-30 exhibited positive correlations with the CD-RISC-10 (r = 0.542) and the GSES (r = 0.488). The scale demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.930) and test-retest reliability (0.794, p < 0.01). Conclusion: The C-ARS-30 is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing academic resilience among Chinese college students, offering a valuable tool for educational and psychological evaluations.
Perceived Employability of Nonlocal Chinese University Students in Hong Kong

Abstract:Perceived employability has been found to be related to the career development and well-being of both working adults and university students. In a first initiative to examine perceived employability among nonlocal Chinese university students, we collected data from a sample of 246 graduating students who had come from Mainland China to study in Hong Kong. After controlling for demographic variables and migration intentions, we found that perceived employability was explained by career exploration, relational support, acculturative hassles, and the assimilation strategy of acculturation. Career exploration was also found to mediate the relationship between the assimilation strategy of acculturation and perceived employability. We discuss the implications of these findings for theory building and career guidance practices regarding the perceived employability and career guidance of nonlocal and international Chinese students.

Abstract:This brief report examines the within–network construct validity of the UWES–9S in a convenience sample of 1502 Chilean students (52% were female) ranging between 18 and 25 years old. The results of confirmatory factor analysis supported a solution with three related factors that fit significantly better than a one-factor solution. The three subscales (i.e., vigor, dedication, and absorption) and the overall UWES–9S showed satisfactory internal consistency. The results of multiple–group confirmatory factor analysis supported gender invariance. Overall, the UWES–9S was found to be a reliable and valid scale to assess academic engagement in Chilean undergraduate university students.
