Abstract:Fel Ursi is a dried product obtained from the gallbladder of Ursidae animals, such as Selenarctos thibetanus or Ursus arctos, through gallbladder surgery for bile drainage. It is one of the rare animal medicinal materials in China and is known for its therapeutic effects, including clearing heat, removing toxins, extinguishing wind, relieving spasms, clearing the liver, and improving vision. Research has also found that Fel Ursi has pharmacological effects against cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and antioxidant stress properties. Recently, numerous studies have confirmed the close relationship between cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and the gut microbiota as well as gut metabolites. Fel Ursi contains bile acid components that may have bidirectional regulatory effects on the gut microbiota and gut metabolites. This aspect could represent a potential therapeutic pathway for Fel Ursi in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. This article comprehensively summarized relevant literature in China and abroad, reviewed the research progress on the pharmacological effects of Fel Ursi against cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and explored the impact of Fel Ursi on gut microbiota and gut metabolites, thereby aiming to provide references for further in-depth research and clinical application of Fel Ursi.

Abstract:The many-banded krait, Bungarus multicinctus, has been recorded as the animal resource of JinQianBaiHuaShe in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Characterization of its venoms classified chief phyla of modern animal neurotoxins. However, the evolutionary origin and diversification of its neurotoxins as well as biosynthesis of its active compounds remain largely unknown due to the lack of its high-quality genome. Here, we present the 1.58 Gbp genome of B. multicinctus assembled into 18 chromosomes with contig/scaffold N50 of 7.53 Mbp/149.8 Mbp. Major bungarotoxin-coding genes were clustered within genome by family and found to be associated with ancient local duplications. The truncation of glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor in the 3'-terminal of a LY6E paralog released modern three-finger toxins (3FTxs) from membrane tethering before the Colubroidea divergence. Subsequent expansion and mutations diversified and recruited these 3FTxs. After the cobra/krait divergence, the modern unit-B of β-bungarotoxin emerged with an extra cysteine residue. A subsequent point substitution in unit-A enabled the β-bungarotoxin covalent linkage. The B. multicinctus gene expression, chromatin topological organization, and histone modification characteristics were featured by transcriptome, proteome, chromatin conformation capture sequencing, and ChIP-seq. The results highlighted that venom production was under a sophisticated regulation. Our findings provide new insights into snake neurotoxin research, meanwhile will facilitate antivenom development, toxin-driven drug discovery and the quality control of JinQianBaiHuaShe.

Abstract:Bombyx Batryticatus is a precious traditional Chinese animal drug commonly used in clinical practice in China, which has the effects of extinguishing wind, stopping convulsions, dispelling wind, relieving pain, resolving phlegm, and dissipating mass. The processing of Bombyx Batryticatus has a long history. As early as in the Liu Song period of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, there was a record of the processing of Bombyx Batryticatus with rice swill. In addition to the processing with bran, honey bran, and ginger juice, which are still used today, there are also processing methods such as rendering, flour processing, wine processing, salt processing, oil processing, charcoal, and red dates processing in ancient times. After processing, the fishy smell of Bombyx Batryticatus can be removed, and avoid nausea and vomiting caused by the direct taking. Furthermore, processing can also facilitate the removal of surface hairs and toxicity reduction, making the medicinal material crispy and easy to crush. Previous studies have shown that the main chemical constituents of Bombyx Batryticatus include protein polypeptides, sterols, and flavonoids, with anticonvulsant, anticoagulation, antithrombotic, anti-cancer, hypnotic, hypoglycemic, and other pharmacological effects. This paper reviewed the processing historical evolution, chemical constituents, and pharmacological effects of Bombyx Batryticatus to lay a foundation for the research on the processing mechanism, quality control, and active core substances of Bombyx Batryticatus.

Abstract:Bungarus multicinctus is one of the top ten venomous snakes in China, and its bite causes acute and severe diseases, but its pathophysiology remains poorly elucidated. Thus, an animal model of Bungarus multicinctus bite was established by intramuscular injection of 30μg/kg of Bungarus multicinctus venom, and then the serum metabolites were subsequently screened, identified and validated by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight-mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) methods to explore the potential biomakers and possible metabolic pathways. Untargeted metabolomics analysis showed that 36 and 38 endogenous metabolites levels changed in ESI+ and ESI-, respectively, KEGG pathway analysis showed that 5 metabolic pathways, including mineral absorption, central carbon metabolism in cancer, protein digestion and absorption, aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis and ABC transporters might be closely related to Bungarus multicinctus bite. Targeted metabolomics analysis showed that there were significant differences in serum D-proline, L-leucine and L-glutamine after Bungarus multicinctus bite (P < 0.05). In addition, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that the diagnostic efficiency of L-Glutamine was superior to other potential biomarkers and the AUC value was 0.944. Moreover, we found evidence for differences in the pathophysiology of glutamine between Bungarus multicinctus bite group and normal group, specifically with the content of glutamine synthetase (GS) and glutaminase (GLS). Taken together, the current study has successfully established an animal model of Bungarus multicinctus bite, and further identified the links between the metabolic perturbations and the pathophysiology and the potential diagnostic biomakers of Bungarus multicinctus bite, which provided valuable insights for studying the mechanism of Bungarus multicinctus bite.

Abstract:The animal medicine of Venenum Bufonis (VB), a product of the secretions of Bufo gargarizans Cantor or B. melanostictus Schneider, has long been used as a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for the treatment of sunstroke and faint, acute filthy disease - abdominal pain or vomiting and diarrhea, etc. This review is aimed at providing the comprehensive and up-to-date information of VB as regards its ethnopharmacological uses, constituents and their metabolism, pharmacokinetics, pharmacology and toxicology, all of which could be used as fundamental data for future research as well as development of new drugs. The information and data about the studies of VB were collected from scientific journals, material medica, historical documents, library, and electronic databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Researchgate, Web of Science and CNKI). To date, about 142 bufadienolides and 16 indole alkaloids have been isolated from VB in total. The extract and isolated compounds showed a wide range of in vitro and in vivo pharmacologic effects, such as cardiotonic, anti-tumor, antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, anesthetic and antimicrobial activities. Especially, bufadienolides have been extensively studied due to its powerful anti-tumor activities against various cancer cells. Furthermore, their metabolites and metabolic pathways were concluded in detail, and the main metabolic pathways of bufadienolides were hydroxylation, 3-isomerization, 3-keto, 16-hydrolyzation, 3-O-sulfate and 3-O-glucuronide. Although VB possesses significant anti-tumor effect against various cancer cell lines, the development of new drugs still remains to be a challenge due to its pharmacodynamic effects in vivo, druggability and toxicology. The main problem lies in its side effects in vivo, poor bioavailability, fast metabolism, cardiotoxicity and neurovirulence. Besides, studies on its metabolism and toxicology in vitro and in vivo, as well as clinical trials should be further conducted for the new drug development and the establishment of optimal dosage of consumption of its administration.
[Molecular identification of animal species of Bufonis Venenum from secretions]

Abstract:The animal species is one of the key factors affecting the quality of Bufonis Venenum. The quality of Bufonis Venenum derived from Bufo bufo gargarizans is significantly higher than that from B. melanostictus. Since Bufonis Venenum is from secretions, the conventional identification methods are difficult to identify the animal species due to the lack of the appearance and morphology of the animals. The rapid development of molecular identification technology has provided new methods for the identification of Bufonis Venenum. However, because of the low content and serve degradation of residual DNA in secretions, the research on the molecular identification of Chinese medicinal materials from secretions remains to be carried out. To understand the animal species of Bufonis Venenum, this study collected 83 samples of Bufonis Venenum, including 7 commercially available samples, 5 reference medicinal materials, and 71 animal samples from which Bufonis Venenum was prepared according to the method in the 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Different DNA extraction methods were used and compared, and the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene fragments were amplified, on the basis of which the phylogenetic trees were built. Finally, molecular identification of the animal species of the samples was performed. The results showed that the DNA extracted from Bufonis Venenum by the reagent kit had good quality, and 16S rRNA sequences were successfully amplified from 80 out of the 83 samples. In addition, 71 16S rRNA sequences of the animal species of Bufonis Venenum were downloaded from GenBank. The phylogenetic trees constructed based on the neighbor-joining(NJ) method and the Bayesian inference(BI) method showed that the samples derived from B. bufo gargarizans and B. melanostictus were clustered into separate monophyletic clades, with the support of 100%(NJ) and 1.00(BI), respectively. The animal species of both commercially available samples and reference medicinal materials were B. bufo gargarizans. In conclusion, DNA can be extracted from Bufonis Venenum derived from secretions, and the 16S rRNA gene sequences can be amplified, which can be used for molecular identification of the animal species of Bufonis Venenum. The findings provide a reference for the quality control of Bufonis Venenum and the identification of animal species of medicinal materials derived from secretions.
Two Genetically Distinct yet Morphologically Indistinct Bungarus Species (Squamata, Elapidae) in Hong Kong

Abstract:Kraits (genus Bungarus) are a group of highly venomous elapid snakes found across tropical Asia. Although they are notorious for causing many, often deadly, envenomations throughout the continent, their taxonomy and species nomenclature is subject to regular revisions. The boundaries demarcating B. candidus, B. multicinctus, and B. wanghaotingi, in Southern China and Northern Myanmar are particularly obscure. Despite the extensively overlapping distributions for the three species, only B. multicinctus has been documented in Hong Kong. Following genetic analyses, we suggest that both B. multincinctus and B. wanghaotingi occur in Hong Kong. However, our morphological examinations are overall inconclusive in distinguishing the two species. With potential interspecific antivenin differences, the new identification of B. wanghaotingi in Hong Kong is of important medical interest. We recommend further ecological, taxonomic, and behavioural studies be conducted to properly distinguish B. multincinctus and B. wanghaotingi in the region.

Network Pharmacological Study on the Mechanism of Cynanchum paniculatum (Xuchangqing) in the Treatment of Bungarus multicinctus Bites

Abstract:Background. Bungarus multicinctus is one of the top ten venomous snakes in China. Its venom is mainly neurotoxin-based. Novel antivenom drugs need to be further researched and developed. Objective. This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of Cynanchum paniculatum in treating Bungarus multicinctus bites based on network pharmacology. Material and methods. The potential active ingredients of Cynanchum paniculatum were screened and their SDF structures were obtained using the PubChem database and imported into the SwissTargetPrediction database, and targets were obtained for the antitoxin effects of Cynanchum paniculatum in the treatment of Bungarus multicinctus bites. The Cynanchum paniculatum-active compound-potential target network and protein-protein interaction network were constructed by using Cytoscape software, and then biological function analysis and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis were performed using the DAVID. Results. Seven potential active components (cynapanoside C, cynatratoside B, tomentolide A, sitosterol, sarcostin, tomentogenin, and paeonol) and 286 drug targets were obtained, including 30 key targets for the treatment of bungarotoxin toxicity. The active components mainly acted on PIK3CA, MAPK1, MAP2K1, JAK2, FYN, ACHE, CHRNA7, CHRNA4, and CHRNB2, and they antagonized the inhibitory effect of bungarotoxin on the nervous system through cholinergic synapses and the neurotrophin signaling pathway. Conclusions. Cynanchum paniculatum exerts a therapeutic effect on Bungarus multicinctus bites through multiple active components, multiple targets, and multiple pathways. The findings provide a theoretical basis for the extraction of active components of Cynanchum paniculatum and for related antivenom experiments.

Abstract:(1) Background: Toad venom (Bufonis Venenum, known as 'Chansu' in Chinese), the secretion of the ear-side gland and skin gland of Bufo gargarizans cantor or Duttaphrynus melanostictus Schneider, has been utilized to treat several diseases in China for thousands of years. However, due to the chemical variability of the components, systematic chemical composition and the key pharmacophores in toad venom have not yet fully understood. Besides, it contains a variety of effective compounds with different physiological activity and chemotypes, mainly including alkaloids, bufogenins, bufotoxins, and so on. The recent pharmacological researches have demonstrated that several bufogenins have remarkable pharmacological effects, such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic effects, and anti-tumor effects. Aim of the study: To identify the bioactive compounds and pharmacophores originating from toad venom based on analyzing spectrum-effect relationship by chemometrics and to explore the anti-cancer mechanism primarily. (2) Materials and methods: Fingerprint of the 21 batches of samples was established using HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). The anti-tumor activity of extracts were determined by in-vitro assays. Chemometric analysis was used to establish the spectrum-effect model and screen for active ingredients. Pharmacodynamic tests for the screened active compound monomers were conducted with in-vitro assays. Further anti-tumor mechanisms were investigated using western blot and flow cytometry. (3) Results: The established spectrum-effect model has satisfactory fitting effect and predicting accuracy. The inhibitory effect of major screened compounds on lung carcinoma cells A549 were validated in vitro, demonstrating that arenobufagin, telocinobufogenin, and cinobufotalin had significant anti-tumor effects. Through further investigation of the mechanism by western blotting and flow cytometry, we elucidated that arenobufagin induces apoptosis in A549 cells with the enhanced expression of cleaved PARP (poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase). These results may provide valuable information for further structural modification of bufadienolides to treat lung cancer and a method for discovery of anti-tumor active compounds. Conclusions: Our research offers a more scientific method for screening the principal ingredients dominating the pharmacodynamic function. These screened compounds (arenobufagin, etc.) were proven to induce apoptosis by overactivation of the PARP-pathway, which may be utilized to make BRCA (breast cancer susceptibility gene) mutant cancer cells more vulnerable to DNA damaging agents and kill them.
Ethnobotanical study on medicinal plants used by Bulang people in Yunnan, China

Abstract:Background: Despite the popularity of modern medicine, medicinal plants remain a cornerstone of treatment for numerous diseases, particularly among ethnic groups and tribal communities around the globe. Ethnomedicine offers advantages such as ease of use, convenience, and economic benefits. Medicinal plant knowledge within Bulang ethnic community of southwest China is a valuable complement to Chinese ethnomedicine systems. Accumulated medical knowledge is due to the extensive length of occupation by Bulang People, considered the earliest inhabitants of Xishuangbanna; this has resulted in the development of various traditional treatment methods with local characteristics and unique curative effects. Therefore, there is exceeding value in exploring the medical knowledge of Bulang. Methods: A total of 175 local informants participated in the interviews and distribution of questionnaires in 10 Bulang villages in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. We documented the community of Bulang's use of medicinal herbs, and we used both the informant consensus factor (ICF) and use value (UV) methodologies to analyze the data. Furthermore, we conducted a comparative study to explore the potential of Bulang traditional medicine by comparing it to traditional Dai medicine. Results: The study recorded 60 medicinal plant species belonging to 41 families and 59 genera, including 22 species of herb, 22 species of shrub, nine species of trees, and seven species of liana. Araceae, Compositae, Lamiaceae and Leguminosae were found to have the highest number of species. The affordability and cultural heritage of Bulang medicine make it advantageous, Investigated Informants report that increased usage of Western medicine (88%), less availability of herbal medicine (95.43%), and the reduction in medicinal plant resources (80.57%) pose significant threats to Bulang medicine. All Bulang medicinal plants are naturally grown, with only 22 per cent being cultivated. Camellia sinensis (0.94) and Zingiber officinale (0.89) showed the highest UV values, while the function of Phyllanthus emblica L. and Houttuynia cordata Thunb. were also noted. The ICF revealed digestive system related diseases were the most commonly treated, with conditions of the motor system using the highest number of plant species. Finally, a comparison with traditional Dai medicine determined that 22 plants (36.67%) of the 60 surveyed had higher medicinal value in Bulang medicine. Conclusion: Bulang communities primarily source medicinal plants from the wild. Should environmental damage lead to the extinction of these medicinal plants, it could result in a shift toward modern Western medicine as a preferred medical treatment. Bulang ethnomedicine is a vital supplement to China's traditional medicine, particularly aspects of ethnic medicine relevant to daily life. Future research should emphasize inter-ethnic medical studies to reveal the untapped potential of medicinal plants.
Correlative Study of Bufogenin Constituents in Venom of Bufo Bufo Gargarizans

Abstract:As known,simultaneous determination of various chemical indicators is one of the future trends in quality control of traditional Chinese medicines because of the extremely complex chemical compositions. This project is to screen the quality markers that can accurately control the quality of the Bufonis Venenum by exploring the intrinsic correlation of components. In this study,venom of Bufo bufo gargarizans from 17 different sources were used as research samples,and the contents of 7 bufogenin were determined by HPLC-DAD. Then,the data obtained were analyzed by Spearman correlation analysis and principal component analysis( PCA). In addition,a stepwise regression analysis was used to establish a predictive model for the contents of the seven bufogenin components( independent variable) and the total contents of the bufogenin( dependent variable). The results indicated that there is a significant positive correlation between the contents of telocinobufagin and cinobufotalin,and there is a significant positive correlation between the contents of bufalin,cinobufagin and resibufogenin. In contrast,the contents of telocinobufagin and cinobufotalin are negatively correlated with the contents of bufalin,cinobufagin and resibufogenin. However,the correlation between gamabufotalin and bufotalin and other components are not obvious. Furthermore,further study found that there is a correlation between the sum of the contents of bufalin,cinobufagin and telocinobufagin and the total contents of the bufogenin. In fact,the application of bufalin,cinobufagin and telocinobufagin as the quality control indicators of the Bufonis Venenum can better reflect the quality characteristics of the Bufonis Venenum compared with the previous quality control indicators. The conclusions will provide a reference for the revision of the quality standards of the Bufonis Venenum.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the herbal medicine of Prunella vulgaris by textual researches, and provide a theoretical basis for clinical medication, exploitation and protection of wild P. vulgaris resources.METHOD:Textual research on medicinal works of past dynasties and field work were adopted.RESULT:The natural distributions of P. vulgaris were concentrated distribution in Sichuan province, Huaihe river basin, and Middle-Lower Yangtze river valley in Chinese history. The indications of P. vulgaris in ancient and modern times were basically identical. While there were difference between the medicinal parts, harvest period and processing methods existed difference between ancient and modern.CONCLUSION:Three periods that whole grass of P. vulgaris as medicinal parts (from late Ming dynasty to late Qing dynasty and early stage of Republic of China), both whole grass and spicas as medicinal parts (from mid-term Republic of China to 1963), and the semi-maturity or maturity of spicas as medicinal parts (from 1963 to today) existed. The processing method for medicinal parts of P. vulgaris adopted sun drying and shady drying in ancient China, but only the sun drying was only used in modern times.
Mobilizing resources for collective action and sustainable development: mobilizing interests or shared values?

Abstract:In this paper we address how actors mobilize resources to realize collective change and innovation to solve common issues. We draw on previous studies anchored within the IMP literature that have offered two perspectives on how actors concerned with a common issue mobilize resources for collective change and innovation. We review these perspectives and challenge them in an empirical setting to arrive at an understanding of how they relate to each other and how they contribute to the mobilization of resources and collective action. One perspective emphasizes the mobilization of interest, and the other the mobilization of shared values as key mechanism to mobilize actors and their resources to contribute to collective action. We draw on an in-depth-case study consisting of two interrelated issue-nets faced to combine environmental with socio-economic issues in a sustainable way. The findings suggest that shared values are important to the extent that they help in raising awareness for the issue and that they can temporarily hold a group together. However, we found that collective action for sustainable development only occurs once actors see how their contribution can benefit their private interest. We theorize on our findings and suggest that interest of actors can only be directed once they can be properly calculated in terms of cost and benefits of their contribution to collective change. We reflect on these findings and conclude with tentative theoretical contributions and implications for further research.
Widely quasi-quantitative analysis of both metabolites and tryptic peptides in animal-originated medicinal materials: Bufonis Venenum as a case

Abstract:It is challenging to achieve in-depth quality analysis for animal-originated medicinal materials (AMMs) owing to containing abundant both metabolites and proteins. RPLC–MS/MS intrinsically bears the ability to simultaneously monitor metabolites and peptides. Hence, its potential towards merging quasi-quantitative metabolomics and tryptic proteomics characterization is therefore assessed in current study, and a well-known AMM namely Bufonis Venenum (BV, Chinese name: Chansu ) was employed as a proof-of-concept. Qualitative information of metabolites was acquired by RPLC–Qtof-MS and translated to plausible structures through careful "spectrum-to-structure" analysis. Bottom-up proteomics was conducted to characterize the tryptic peptidome using nanoLC–QExactive HF orbitrap-MS. Quantitative MS/MS parameters of either metabolites (72 ones) or tryptic peptides (28 unique peptides) were optimized using online energy-resolved MS and applied to configure RPLC–selected-reaction monitoring (RPLC–SRM) program. Ultimately, SRM response of each analyte was converted to quasi-content by serially diluting a so-called universal metabolome standard (UMS) solution and building regressive calibration curve set to achieve widely quasi-quantitative metabolomics and proteomics. Although being sourced from identical species, significant differences occurred among the metabolite and protein profiles between BV and toad skins, and bufadienolides ( i.e. , 3-( N -adipoyl-argininyl)-gamabufotalin/isomer) along with several tryptic peptides ( i.e. , ISGLIYEETR sourced from Histone H4) served as the primary differential variables. Above all, RPLC–SRM is a promising analytical tool for in-depth quality evaluation of AMMs, and more importantly, the workflow described here is a fit-for-purpose pipeline to merge quasi-quantitative metabolomics and bottom-up proteomics.

Abstract:The secretions of the venom glands, dry skin and whole body of several Bufo species have been used as traditional medicines in East Asia to treat heart failure and cancer. Due to the highly similar morphological features of Bufo species and their derived commercial crude drugs, along with the high similarity of chemical composition of the secretions of venom glands, it is very challenging to identify the medicinal toads and the related crude drugs. The cyt-b sequences provide useful information to authenticate medicinal Bufo species. Based on the cyt-b sequences, a simple PCR-RFLP method was established for the identification of the medicinally used Bufo species as well as their derived crude drugs. The 23 specimens from three medicinally used Bufo species, B. bufo gargarizans (Bbg), B. melanostictus (Bm) and B. raddei (Br), were clearly divided into 3 groups according to the sequences of amplified cyt-b regions, which could be digested by specific restriction enzymes NcoI, EcoRV and BstXI, respectively. Then the specific PCR-RFLP method was further used to identify 9 samples of commercial crude drugs even with serious degradation of DNA, and all nine samples were identified as B. bufo gargarizans. The method is suitable for identification of medicinally used Bufo species and the related crude drugs.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the original plant and dietotherapy history of Prunella vulgaris by textual researches, and provide a theoretical basis for clinical medication, exploitation and protection of wild resources. METHOD:The ancient literatures in the graphic, geographical distribution and morphological description of P. vulgaris were used in this studied. RESULT:The varieties of P. vulgaris for therapeutic were no confusion. However, there has existed confusion between P. vulgaris and its confusable species (Ajuga ciliate, A. decumbens and Lagopsis supina) with appellations, morphological description and attached drawing of original plant. CONCLUSION:The original plant is originated from two species (P. vulgaris, P. asiatica). P. hispida was used as a certified medicinal material in Yunnan province from Ming Dynasty to modern time. The dietotherapy history of P. vulgaris in China can be traced back to Ming Dynasty or before.
Morphological and molecular characterization of Paragonimus species isolated from freshwater crabs in Yunnan, China.

Abstract:Abstract Background Paragonimus species are highly prevalent in ethnic minority areas of Yunnan, China. The objective of the study is to isolate and identify Paragonimus from natural habitat and compare the phylogenetic diversity of Paragonimus in Yunnan province, China. Methods Metacercariae of Paragonimus was isolated from crabs and morphologic identification was performed by microscopy. Metacercariae were injected into experimental Paragonimus free Sprague Dawley rats. After 112 days, adult worms and eggs were isolated from multiple organs. Morphologic identification confirmed the initial identification. DNA was extracted from the adult worms and molecular characterization was performed by amplification and sequencing of CO1 and ITS2 regions followed by phylogenetic analysis. Results Out of 447 crabs captured, 186 crabs were found to be infected. A total of 5 occurrences of Paragonimus was observed from naturally infected crabs. Paragonimus microrchis (2), P,heterotremus (1), P.proliferus (1) and P.skrjabini (1) were isolated and identified. A total of 32 sequences downloaded from national center for biotechnology information and 5 sequences generated in the study was used for phylogenetic analysis. Phylogenetic analysis revealed robustness of the double loci method as against the single locus method with either CO1 or ITS2 alone. Considerable phylogenetic diversity depending on the geographic location was observed. Conclusion Paragonimus species isolated from Yunnan province, China were phylogenetically diverse and the analysis revealed the clustering of multiple species of Paragonimus isolated from different geographic locations.
