Abstract:The serial reproducibility of an individual's isokinetic torque was assessed in order to establish a reliable baseline value for future comparison. Thirty-two controls and twenty arthritic patients were tested for their peak isokinetic torque on knee flexion and extension and hip flexion at three velocities on five occasions, at fortnightly intervals. The first test was found to provide a reliable baseline for controls and subjects who could generate a peak torque of 54 Newton meters (Nm) or more. The second test was found to be more representative of the series for groups containing weaker subjects. Variation related to torque: for subjects who generate a peak torque of 54 Nm or more, a range of +/- 20% accommodates the variability of 95% of tests. We conclude that a +/- 20% range applied to either the first or second test, depending on the nature of the group to be studied, serves as a representative baseline value.

Abstract:The Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE) is a very popular exercise used to improve eccentric strength and prevent injuries. The aim of this investigation was to assess the reliability of a portable dynamometer that measures maximal strength (MS) and rate of force development (RFD) during the NHE. Seventeen physically active participants (34.8 ± 4.1 years; n = 2 women and n = 15 men) participated. Measurements occurred on two different days separated by 48–72 h. Test–retest reliability was calculated for bilateral MS and RFD. No significant test–retest differences were observed in NHE (test–retest [95% CI, confidence interval]) for MS [−19.2 N (−67.8; 29.4); p = 0.42] and RFD [−70.4 N.s−1 (−178.4; 37.8); p = 0.19]. MS showed high reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] [95% CI], =0.93 [0.80–0.97] and large within-subject correlation between test and retest [r = 0.88 (0.68; 0.95)]. RFD displayed good reliability [ICC = 0.76 (0.35; 0.91)] and moderate within-subject correlation between test and retest [r = 0.63 (0.22; 0.85)]. Bilateral MS and RFD displayed a coefficient of variation of 3.4% and 4.6%, respectively, between tests. The standard error of measurement and the minimal detectable change for MS was 44.6 arbitrary units (a.u.) and 123.6 a.u., and 104.6 a.u. and 290.0 a.u. for peak RFD. This study shows that MS and RFD can be measured for NHE using a portable dynamometer. However, not all exercises are suitable to apply to determine RFD, so caution must be taken when analyzing RFD during NHE.

Abstract:Background: The current clinical gold standard for assessing isometric quadriceps muscle strength is an isokinetic dynamometer (IKD). However, in clinics without an IKD, clinicians default to using handheld dynamometers (HHD), which are less reliable and accurate than the IKD, particularly for large muscle groups. A novel device (ND) was developed that locks the weight stack of weight machines, and measures forces applied to the machine, turning this equipment into an isometric dynamometer. The objectives of this study were to characterize the test-retest reliability of the ND, determine the within-day and between-days inter-rater reliability and concurrent validity compared with that of the HHD, in healthy volunteers (HV) and individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA) for measuring knee extensors isometric muscle force. Materials and methods: 29 healthy (age = 28.4 ± 7.4 years) and 15 knee OA (age = 37.6 ± 13.4 years) participants completed three maximum force isometric strength testing trials on dominant side knee extensor muscles on three devices (ND, HHD, and IKD) in two separate sessions by two raters. The maximum force (Fmax) produced, and the force-time series were recorded. Reliability and validity were assessed using Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), Bland-Altman Plots, Pearson's r, and cross-correlations. Results: The ND demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability (ICC2,3 = 0.97). The within-day (ICC2,3 = 0.88) and between-day inter-rater reliability (ICC2,3 = 0.87) was good for HHD. The ND showed excellent within-day (ICC2,3 = 0.93) and good between-day (ICC2,3 = 0.89) inter-rater reliability. The Bland-Altman analysis revealed HHD systematic bias and underestimation of force particularly with quadriceps force values exceeding 450 N. Mean differences were found in maximum force between HHD vs. IKD (MDabs = 58 N, p < .001) but not the HHD vs. ND (MDabs = 24 N, p = .267) or ND vs. IKD (MDabs = 34 N, p = .051). The concurrent validity of Fmax (r = 0.81) and force-time curve correlation (0.96 ± 0.05) were the highest between the ND and IKD. Conclusions: The ND's test-retest reliability and concurrent validity make it a potential strength assessment tool with utility in physical therapy and fitness settings for large muscle groups such as the knee extensors.
Isometric Force-Time Curve Assessment: Accuracy, Precision, and Repeatability of a Mobile Application and Portable and Lightweight Device

Abstract:Strength assessment is one of the main fields in sports performance, physical rehabilitation, physical activity, and health. We aimed to compare maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVICs) and paired voluntary isometric contractions (VICs) of knee extensors between an isokinetic dynamometer (BIODEX) and a portable and lightweight device (DINABANG). From 19 volunteers (age: 28.7 ± 7 years; body mass: 72 ± 10 kg; and height: 173 ± 7 cm) we obtained 114 paired MVIC measures and, from the force-time curves of these repetitions, 22,507 paired VIC measures of knee extensors. We observed "excellent" repeatability for MVICs (ICC:1.00; p < 0.001) between BIODEX (247 ± 79.5 Nm) and DINABANG (247 ± 74.8 Nm), with "trivial" effect (mean difference: 0.12 Nm (0.02%); 95%CI: -0.13 to 0.23 Nm; p = 0.606; d = 0.048). Bland-Altman plots revealed high accuracy for MVIC (bias: 0.12 Nm) and consistent distribution (precision) inside the limits of agreement (-4.81 to 5.06 Nm) and respective 95%CI. "Excellent" repeatability was also observed for VICs (ICC:1.00; p < 0.001) between BIODEX (219 ± 84.1 Nm) and DINABANG (218 ± 84.0 Nm), with "trivial" effect (0.24 Nm (0.11%); 0.08 to 0.11 Nm; p < 0.001; d = 0.100). Bland-Altman plots revealed high accuracy for VICs (bias: 0.24 Nm) and consistent distribution (precision) inside the limits of agreement (-4.5 to 4.9 Nm) and respective 95%CI. DINABANG is accurate, precise, and reliable in torque measurement.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate isokinetic dynamometer reliability for isometric assessment of plantar flexor (PF) strength. Design Cross-sectional. Setting Testing by the same physiotherapist twice during a first session (repeatability) and once during a second session (reproducibility). Participants Twenty-two healthy subjects (44 ankles, 11 men/11 women). Main Outcome Measures Isometric PF peak torque, with and without body mass normalization, at 0° and +20° of plantar flexion. Measurement reliability was evaluated using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), standard error of measurement (SEM) and minimal detectable change (MDC). Results Without normalization, measurement repeatability was excellent at 0° of plantar flexion (ICC, 0.94; SEM, 6.6%; MDC, 18.4%) compared with good repeatability at +20° (ICC, 0.85; SEM, 11.1%; MDC 30.6%). Measurement repeatability following normalization was good at 0° (ICC, 0.88; SEM, 5.2%; MDC, 14.4%) and +20° (ICC, 0.79; SEM, 10.2%; MDC, 28.1%). While reproducibility was good at 0° with normalization (ICC, 0.84; SEM, 5.9%; MDC, 16.3%) or excellent without (ICC 0.92; SEM 7.5%; MDC, 20.8%), it was moderate at +20° with normalization (ICC 0.71; SEM 11.3%; MDC, 31.3%) or good without (ICC 0.78; SEM 13.0%; MDC, 36.1%). Conclusion The reliability of PF maximal isometric strength is good/excellent at 0° of plantar flexion but moderate/good at +20°.

Abstract:The present study was designed to evaluate the test-retest consistency of repetition maximum tests at standardized relative loads and determine the robustness of strength-endurance profiles across test-retest trials. Twenty-four resistance-trained males and females (age, 27.4 ± 4.0 y; body mass, 77.2 ± 12.6 kg; relative bench press one-repetition maximum [1-RM], 1.19 ± 0.23 kg•kg -1 ) were assessed for their 1-RM in the free-weight bench press. After 48 to 72 hours, they were tested for the maximum number of achievable repetitions at 90%, 80% and 70% of their 1-RM. A retest was completed for all assessments one week later. Gathered data were used to model the relationship between relative load and repetitions to failure with respect to individual trends using Bayesian multilevel modeling and applying four recently proposed model types. The maximum number of repetitions showed slightly better reliability at lower relative loads (ICC at 70% 1-RM = 0.86, 90% highest density interval: [0.71, 0.93]) compared to higher relative loads (ICC at 90% 1-RM = 0.65 [0.39, 0.83]), whereas the absolute agreement was slightly better at higher loads (SEM at 90% 1-RM = 0.7 repetitions [0.5, 0.9]; SEM at 70% 1-RM = 1.1 repetitions [0.8, 1.4]). The linear regression model and the 2-parameters exponential regression model revealed the most robust parameter estimates across test-retest trials. Results testify to good reproducibility of repetition maximum tests at standardized relative loads obtained over short periods of time. A complementary free-to-use web application was developed to help practitioners calculate strength-endurance profiles and build individual repetition maximum tables based on robust statistical models.

Abstract:Introduction Muscular strength can be viewed as a product of force and velocity. Increases in both maximal force and velocity will ultimately result in an increase in power (Suchomel et al., 2016), thus contributing to performance in tasks such as athletic competition or police and military special operations. Testing isometric peak force is a reliable method to assess maximal strength (De Witt et al., 2018). Isometric mid-thigh pull tests and squat tests in various knee- and hip angles are well known. These tests, however, require force plates with computer and software, as well as a barbell that disallows displacement of the bar (usually a heavy equipment). Decentralized testing requires a reliable, lightweight and mobile measurement device comparable to standard isometric tests as described elsewhere (Maier et al., 2016). Therefore, a tension gauge (load cells) was attached to a board and a handle to perform isometric sumo stance deadlifts. The question is whether the mobile device produces comparable results to maximal isometric strength tests on force plates. Method Correlation analysis (Bayesian Pearson’s rho, Prior~Beta 1,1) and Equivalence Bayesian Paired Samples T-Tests (Lakens, 2017; Prior~Cauchy 0,0.707, a priori Limits of Agreement = +/-5%) of the measurements from the mobile test device and from force plates (CYCCESS) were performed using JASP Version 0.14.1. Healthy, trained subjects (n = 12) volunteered to perform maximal isometric deadlifts on each test device. Results were validated by additional 6 pairs of lifts on each device. Results Pearson’s rho was 0.969 (95% credible interval of the posterior distribution 0.824, 0.993). After adjusting the measures of the mobile device for the offset (mean of the differences of 416 N), Bayes factor favoring the hypothesis that the effect size lies inside the interval of +/-5% was 3.006. The additional measurements confirmed the substantial evidence for equivalence of the two measurements. Discussion Isometric tests are relatively simple, safe and time efficient to administer and possess high degrees of reliability (Grgic et al., 2022). The strong relationship between isometric peak force and deadlift 1RM (De Witt et al., 2018) makes them a valuable tool for exercise prescription. Our lightweight, mobile test device offers high precision (technical measurement error of the load cells = 0.5%) and safe testing procedure. Concurrent validity, as well as face validity, seems to be reasonably high: measurements with the mobile device do not differ from a isometric deadlift test on force plates, and lifting casualties and heavy loads could be well represented by force produced from the floor position (Bartolomei et al., 2022). Abstract:Abstract Systemic and uncontrolled administration of erlotinib hydrochloride (ETB) is associated with severe toxicity. A novel targeted and extended release nanosponge (NS) was synthesized from glutathione (GHS) by a one-step reaction between β-cyclodextrin and pyromellitic dianhydride at room temperature for delivery of ETB in lung cancer. Characterization studies were performed using sophisticated instruments. In-vitro release study was performed in the presence of incremental concentrations of GHS which was analyzed using HPLC. Cell cytotoxicity study was evaluated on human lung cancer (A549) cell lines. In-vivo tumour inhibition and biodistribution of ETB-loaded GHS-NS (ETB-NS) were performed on BALB/c mice. NS obtained was spherical, size 212 ± 2.45 nm and high drug entrapment (92.34 ± 5.31%) (p < .001). In-vitro extended drug release (76.89 ± 0.1% release at 168 h), which was directly proportional to the concentration of GHS, demonstrated tumour targeting. There was enhanced in-vitro cytotoxicity and 97.5% inhibition in tumour growth on administering NS when compared to plain ETB (48% inhibition) indicating targeting of NS to the tumour site. Biodistribution study and in-vivo tumour growth inhibition study revealed drug release to the cancerous cell, thus preventing unnecessary drug exposure. ETB-NS exhibits extended drug release proportional to the external GSH concentration.
Random measurement and prediction errors limit the practical relevance of two velocity sensors to estimate the 1RM back squat

Abstract:Introduction: While maximum strength diagnostics are applied in several sports and rehabilitative settings, dynamic strength capacity has been determined via the one-repetition maximum (1RM) testing for decades. Because the literature concerned several limitations, such as injury risk and limited practical applicability in large populations (e.g., athletic training groups), the strength prediction via the velocity profile has received increasing attention recently. Referring to relative reliability coefficients and inappropriate interpretation of agreement statistics, several previous recommendations neglected systematic and random measurement bias. Methods: This article explored the random measurement error arising from repeated testing (repeatability) and the agreement between two common sensors (vMaxPro and TENDO) within one repetition, using minimal velocity thresholds as well as the velocity = 0 m/s method. Furthermore, agreement analyses were applied to the estimated and measured 1RM in 25 young elite male soccer athletes. Results: The results reported repeatability values with an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) = 0.66-0.80, which was accompanied by mean absolute (percentage) errors (MAE and MAPE) of up to 0.04-0.22 m/s and ≤7.5%. Agreement between the two sensors within one repetition showed a systematic lower velocity for the vMaxPro device than the Tendo, with ICCs ranging from 0.28 to 0.88, which were accompanied by an MAE/MAPE of ≤0.13 m/s (11%). Almost all estimations systematically over/ underestimated the measured 1RM, with a random scattering between 4.12% and 71.6%, depending on the velocity threshold used. Discussion: In agreement with most actual reviews, the presented results call for caution when using velocity profiles to estimate strength. Further approaches must be explored to minimize especially the random scattering.
Can isometric testing substitute for the one repetition maximum squat test?

Abstract:When measuring maximum strength, a high accuracy and precision is required to monitor the training adaptations. Based on available reliability parameters, the literature suggests the replacement of the one repetition maximum (1RM) by isometric testing to save testing time. However, from a statistical point of view, correlation coefficients do not provide the required information when aiming to replace one test by another. Therefore, the literature suggests the inclusion of the mean absolute error (MAE), the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) for agreement analysis. Consequently, to check the replaceability of 1RM testing methods, the current study examined the agreement of isometric and dynamic testing methods in the squat and the isometric mid-thigh pull. While in accordance with the literature, correlations were classified high r = 0.638–0.828 and ICC = 0.630–0.828, the agreement analysis provided MAEs of 175.75–444.17 N and MAPEs of 16.16–57.71% indicating an intolerable high measurement error between isometric and dynamic testing conditions in the squat and isometric mid-thigh pull. In contrast to previous studies, using MAE, MAPE supplemented by CCC and BA analysis highlights the poor agreement between the included strength tests. The recommendation to replace 1RM testing with isometric testing routines in the squat does not provide suitable concordance and is not recommended.

Abstract:The reliability of MyotonPRO that can monitor the mechanical properties of tissues is still unclear. This study aimed to analyze the within-day inter-operator and between-day intra-operator reliability of MyotonPRO for assessing tone and stiffness of quadriceps femoris and patellar tendon at different knee angles. The tone and stiffness of healthy participants (15 males and 15 females, aged 24.7±1.6 years) in the supine and resting position were measured using the MyotonPRO device. The measurements were quantified at 0°, 30°, 60°, and 90° of knee flexion. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), standard error of measurement (SEM), and minimal detectable change (MDC) were calculated and a Bland–Altman analysis was conducted to estimate reliability. The results indicated excellent inter-operator reliability (ICC > 0.78) and good to excellent intra-operator reliability (ICC > 0.41). The inter-operator SEM measurements ranged between 0.1–0.9 Hz and 3.8–37.9 N/m, and intra-operator SEM ranged between 0.5–1.3 Hz and 7.9–52.0 N/m. The inter-operator MDC ranged between 0.3–2.5 Hz and 10.5–105.1 N/m, and intra-operator SEM ranged between 1.1–3.3 Hz and 21.9–144.1 N/m. The agreement of inter-operator was better than that of intra-operator. The study concluded that MyotonPRO is a reliable device to detect the tone and stiffness of quadriceps femoris and patellar tendon.

Abstract:Muscle imbalance and deficit are key parameters for guiding rehabilitation and sports sessions and avoiding injuries. However, the high cost and non-portable nature of most instruments employed for muscle strength assessment frequently hamper an affordable evaluation in field conditions. This study evaluated the validity and reliability of a low-cost digital dynamometer to assess the maximal isometric strength of upper limb muscles. Fourteen physically active volunteers performed the main movements of the upper limb at maximal isometric strength: flexion-extension, internal-external rotation and abduction-adduction of the shoulder; and flexion-extension of both elbow and wrist. Validity was examined by comparing the strength values from the low-cost digital dynamometer and those measured by an isokinetic dynamometer, assumed as the gold standard. The correlation between both devices was perfect (r > 0.913), while Bland-Altman plots showed absolute agreement between both devices, the maximum range of the values of bias was −0.99–1.00 N in wrist extension. Inter-tester and intra-tester reliability were excellent for all movements (ICC ≥ 0.855). The low-cost digital dynamometer showed strong validity and excellent reliability in assessing maximal isometric strength during the main movements of the upper limb. Professionals may use it for an affordable isometric muscle strength assessment in field situations.

Abstract:This study aimed to assess the feasibility and reliability of quadriceps maximal short-term power (Pmax) and corresponding optimal movement velocity (υopt—velocity at which the power reaches a maximum value) measurements in different populations of subjects. Five groups of subjects, fifty participants in each group, took part in the study: students; patients of the cardiac rehabilitation program; patients after stroke; older adults; and subjects of different ages who performed repetitive measurements with two different bicycles. The correlations calculated for the pairs of scores ranged from 0.93 to 0.99 for Pmax and from 0.86 to 0.96 for υopt (all with p < 0.001). Intraclass Correlations Coefficients (ICCs) varied from 0.93 to 0.98 for Pmax and from 0.86 to 0.95 for υopt. The standard error of measurement (SEM) varied from 16.9 to 21.4 W for Pmax and from 2.91 to 5.54 rotations(rot)/min for υopt. The coefficients of variation (CVs or SEM%) for Pmax and υopt in the stroke group were 10.6% and 11.4%, respectively; all other CVs were clearly lower than 10%. The minimal detectable change (MDC) varied from 46.6 to 59.3 W for Pmax and from 8.07 to 15.4 rot/min for υopt. MDC% varied from 9.53% to 29.3% for Pmax and from 8.19% to 31.7% for υopt, and was the highest in the stroke group. Therefore, the precision of measurements of Pmax and υopt was confirmed by very good indices of absolute and relative reliability. The proposed methodology is precise, safe, not time-consuming and feasible in older subjects and those with diseases.

Abstract:Hintergrund Isometrische Krafttestungen sind häufig einfacher in der Anwendung, aber isokinetischen Krafttestresultaten wird eine bessere Übertragbarkeit auf die Trainingsgestaltung zugeschrieben. Diese Übersichtsarbeit hat das Ziel, eventuelle Testgüteunterschiede im Sinne von Validität und Reliabilität bei isometrischer und isokinetischer Krafttestung herauszuarbeiten. Material und Methoden Im Januar 2024 wurde die Datenbank PubMed nach Studien durchsucht, die statistische Kennwerte für die Validität und Reproduzierbarkeit isokinetischer und isometrischer Krafttestgeräte für gesunde Erwachsene analysierten. Ausgeschlossen wurden Arbeiten zu speziellen handgehaltenen Dynamometern oder Veröffentlichungen die älter als 30 Jahren waren. Ergebnisse 13 Studien entsprachen den Auswahlkriterien. Isometrische Maximalkraftmessung erzielten tendenziell höhere Kurzzeit-Reliabilitätskoeffizienten (ICC: 0,87–0,96) im Vergleich zu isokinetischen Tests (ICC:0,69–0,99). Die absolute Reproduzierbarkeit war vergleichbar für Isometrie (CV: 6,9–9,4%, SEM: 4,5–11,0%) und Isokinetik (CV: 2,3–12,4%, SEM: 4,8–14,0%). Die Validität wurde für beide Verfahrensweisen bestätigt, Validitätskoeffizienten variierten aber stark in Abhängigkeit vom gewählten Außenkriterium (EMG r>0,9; 5–10-RM r>0,8; Muskelquerschnitt r>0,7; spezielle isokinetische Vergleichstests r>0,5). Schlussfolgerungen Bei bestätigter Validität für beide Verfahren verdeutlicht die aktuelle Evidenzlage, dass Unterschiede in der Reproduzierbarkeit zwischen Isometrie und Isokinetik vernachlässigbar klein sind. Zukünftige Forschung sollte sich auf für die Praxis relevante Nebengütekriterien wie die Zugänglichkeit von populationsspezifischen Orientierungswerten und die Zeitökonomie bei der Datenerhebung konzentrieren. Objective Isometric muscle strength testing is easier to apply, but isokinetic test results are deemed to offer a better transfer for training purposes. This systematic review aims to elucidate differences in terms of validity and reliability, if any, between isometric and isokinetic approaches. Material and Methods In January 2024, the PubMed database was searched for studies reporting reliability or validity measures for healthy adults for both isokinetic and isometric strength testing devices. Investigations of certain handheld types of dynamometers or publications older than 30 years were excluded. Results Thirteen studies met the inclusion criteria. Isometric maximal strength testing tended to demonstrate higher short-term reliability coefficients (ICC: 0.87–0.96) compared to isokinetic approaches (ICC: 0.69–0.99), while absolute measures for reproducibility were somehow similar for isometric (CV: 6.9–9.4%, SEM: 4.5–11.0%) and isokinetic testing (CV: 2.3–12.4%,SEM: 4.8–14.0%). Validity was confirmed for both isometric and isokinetic testing, but correlation coefficients varied markedly depending on the external criteria (EMG r>0.9, 5–10-RM r>0.8, Cross Sectional Area r>0.7, specific isokinetic comparisons r>0.5). Conclusions Confirming general validity for both, existing evidence suggests negligible advantages for isometric compared to isokinetic devices in terms of reproducibility measures. Future research should address comparisons seeking for side-effect properties of novel isometric and isokinetic devices such as accessibility of normative data for certain populations or time economy. Abstract:Lower limb isometric strength is a key parameter to monitor the training process or recognise muscle weakness and injury risk. However, valid and reliable methods to evaluate it often require high-cost tools. The aim of this study was to analyse the concurrent validity and reliability of a low-cost digital dynamometer for measuring isometric strength in lower limb. Eleven physically active and healthy participants performed maximal isometric strength for: flexion and extension of ankle, flexion and extension of knee, flexion, extension, adduction, abduction, internal and external rotation of hip. Data obtained by the digital dynamometer were compared with the isokinetic dynamometer to examine its concurrent validity. Data obtained by the digital dynamometer from 2 different evaluators and 2 different sessions were compared to examine its inter-rater and intra-rater reliability. Intra-class correlation (ICC) for validity was excellent in every movement (ICC > 0.9). Intra and inter-tester reliability was excellent for all the movements assessed (ICC > 0.75). The low-cost digital dynamometer demonstrated strong concurrent validity and excellent intra and inter-tester reliability for assessing isometric strength in the main lower limb movements.

Abstract:The manual muscle test (MMT) is a flexible diagnostic tool, which is used in many disciplines, applied in several ways. The main problem is the subjectivity of the test. The MMT in the version of a “break test” depends on the tester’s force rise and the patient’s ability to resist the applied force. As a first step, the investigation of the reproducibility of the testers’ force profile is required for valid application. The study examined the force profiles of n = 29 testers (n = 9 experiences (Exp), n = 8 little experienced (LitExp), n = 12 beginners (Beg)). The testers performed 10 MMTs according to the test of hip flexors, but against a fixed leg to exclude the patient’s reaction. A handheld device recorded the temporal course of the applied force. The results show significant differences between Exp and Beg concerning the starting force (padj = 0.029), the ratio of starting to maximum force (padj = 0.005) and the normalized mean Euclidean distances between the 10 trials (padj = 0.015). The slope is significantly higher in Exp vs. LitExp (p = 0.006) and Beg (p = 0.005). The results also indicate that experienced testers show inter-tester differences and partly even a low intra-tester reproducibility. This highlights the necessity of an objective MMT-assessment. Furthermore, an agreement on a standardized force profile is required. A suggestion for this is given.

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the test-retest reliability of isometric test of quadriceps femoris and hamstring by EN-Tree M Explosive pulley 2000.Method:Twenty healthy adults participated in the study. Each participant was tested twice by the same tester at an interval of one week. ICC(intraclass correlation coefficient) was calculated to describe the reliability of the two tests. Result:There are fair to excellent correlations (ICC 0.4457-0.9099) in all the parameters including peak power, average peak power, average position at peak power, average power, peak velocity, average peak velocity, peak force, average peak force and total work except fatigue index of the pulley. Conclusion: Although the testing methods need some development, isometric test by the EN-Tree M explosive pulley 2000 is a reliable evaluation and easy to operate. Further utilization of the test in clinic should be considered.
