Abstract:Background: Artificial intelligence (AI), which combines computer science with extensive datasets, seeks to mimic human-like intelligence. Subsets of AI are being applied in almost all fields of medicine and surgery. Aim: This review focuses on the applications of AI in healthcare settings in developing countries, designed to underscore its significance by comprehensively outlining the advancements made thus far, the shortcomings encountered in AI applications, the present status of AI integration, persistent challenges, and innovative strategies to surmount them. Methodology: Articles from PubMed, Google Scholar, and Cochrane were searched from 2000 to 2023 with keywords including AI and healthcare, focusing on multiple medical specialties. Results: The increasing role of AI in diagnosis, prognosis prediction, and patient management, as well as hospital management and community healthcare, has made the overall healthcare system more efficient, especially in the high patient load setups and resource-limited areas of developing countries where patient care is often compromised. However, challenges, including low adoption rates and the absence of standardized guidelines, high installation and maintenance costs of equipment, poor transportation and connectivvity issues hinder AI's full use in healthcare. Conclusion: Despite these challenges, AI holds a promising future in healthcare. Adequate knowledge and expertise of healthcare professionals for the use of AI technology in healthcare is imperative in developing nations.

Abstract:The sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship is deeply embedded in tradition – the Hippocratic oath, medical ethics, professional codes of conduct, and legislation – all of which are being disrupted by big data and 'artificial' intelligence (AI). The transition from paper-based records to electronic health records, wearables, mobile health applications and mobile phone data has created new opportunities to scale up data collection. Databases of unimaginable magnitude can be harnessed to develop algorithms for AI and to refine machine learning. Complex neural networks now lie at the core of ubiquitous AI systems in healthcare. A transformed healthcare environment enhanced by innovation, robotics, digital technology, and improved diagnostics and therapeutics is plagued by ethical, legal and social challenges. Global guidelines are emerging to ensure governance in AI, but many low- and middle-income countries have yet to develop context- specific frameworks. Legislation must be developed to frame liability and account for negligence due to robotics in the same way human healthcare providers are held accountable. The digital divide between high- and low-income settings is significant and has the potential to exacerbate health inequities globally.

Abstract:Artificial intelligence has provided us with an exploration of a whole new research era. As more data and better computational power become available, the approach is being implemented in various fields. The demand for it in health informatics is also increasing, and we can expect to see the potential benefits of its applications in healthcare. It can help clinicians diagnose disease, identify drug effects for each patient, understand the relationship between genotypes and phenotypes, explore new phenotypes or treatment recommendations, and predict infectious disease outbreaks with high accuracy. In contrast to traditional models, recent artificial intelligence approaches do not require domain-specific data pre-processing, and it is expected that it will ultimately change life in the future. Despite its notable advantages, there are some key challenges on data (high dimensionality, heterogeneity, time dependency, sparsity, irregularity, lack of label, bias) and model (reliability, interpretability, feasibility, security, scalability) for practical use. This article presents a comprehensive review of research applying artificial intelligence in health informatics, focusing on the last seven years in the fields of medical imaging, electronic health records, genomics, sensing, and online communication health, as well as challenges and promising directions for future research. We highlight ongoing popular approaches' research and identify several challenges in building models.

Abstract:Artificial intelligence (AI) applications have transformed healthcare. This study is based on a general literature review uncovering the role of AI in healthcare and focuses on the following key aspects: (i) medical imaging and diagnostics, (ii) virtual patient care, (iii) medical research and drug discovery, (iv) patient engagement and compliance, (v) rehabilitation, and (vi) other administrative applications. The impact of AI is observed in detecting clinical conditions in medical imaging and diagnostic services, controlling the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with early diagnosis, providing virtual patient care using AI-powered tools, managing electronic health records, augmenting patient engagement and compliance with the treatment plan, reducing the administrative workload of healthcare professionals (HCPs), discovering new drugs and vaccines, spotting medical prescription errors, extensive data storage and analysis, and technology-assisted rehabilitation. Nevertheless, this science pitch meets several technical, ethical, and social challenges, including privacy, safety, the right to decide and try, costs, information and consent, access, and efficacy, while integrating AI into healthcare. The governance of AI applications is crucial for patient safety and accountability and for raising HCPs’ belief in enhancing acceptance and boosting significant health consequences. Effective governance is a prerequisite to precisely address regulatory, ethical, and trust issues while advancing the acceptance and implementation of AI. Since COVID-19 hit the global health system, the concept of AI has created a revolution in healthcare, and such an uprising could be another step forward to meet future healthcare needs.

With its ability to process vast amounts of data and perform complex tasks, AI has begun to revolutionize healthcare, offering promising avenues for diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. In this editorial article, we will explore the significant impact of AI in medicine, highlighting its potential benefits and the challenges that lie ahead. AI-Driven Diagnosis One of the most remarkable applications of AI in medicine is its capacity to assist in accurate and efficient diagnosis. By leveraging machine learning algorithms, AI systems can analyze medical imaging, such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans, with a level of precision that rivals human experts. Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of AI in detecting various conditions, including lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders, leading to earlier and more accurate diagnoses. For instance, a study published in Nature Medicine by McKinney et al. revealed that an AI model trained on a large dataset of mammograms outperformed radiologists in breast cancer detection. The AI system achieved a lower false-negative rate and reduced the number of false positives, thereby potentially reducing unnecessary biopsies [1]. Similarly, a study by Esteva et al., showed that a deep learning algorithm outperformed dermatologists in diagnosing skin cancer based on images [2]. Such advancements in AI-driven diagnosis hold immense promise for improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs. Personalized Treatment and Precision Medicine AI has also opened doors to personalized treatment strategies, enabling healthcare professionals to tailor therapies to individual patients. By analyzing vast amounts of patient data, including genetic information, medical history, and treatment outcomes, AI algorithms can identify patterns, predict responses to specific treatments, and recommend personalized interventions. This approach, known as precision medicine, has the potential to revolutionize disease management. An example of AI's impact on precision medicine is showcased in the work of Poplin et al. The study demonstrated how a deep learning algorithm could predict the onset of cardiovascular events by analyzing electronic health records. The algorithm outperformed traditional risk models by incorporating a broader range of patient data, allowing for more accurate and timely interventions to prevent adverse events [3]. Similarly, Obermeyer et al., demonstrated that an AI model outperformed traditional methods in predicting acute kidney injury in hospitalized patients [4] while a study by Che et al., demonstrated the effectiveness of an AI model in predicting sepsis, allowing for early intervention and improved patient outcomes [5]. Enhanced Clinical Decision-Making and Workflow AI has the capacity to enhance clinical decision-making by assisting healthcare providers in analyzing complex data and generating evidence-based recommendations. AI systems can process and interpret vast amounts of medical literature, patient records, and clinical guidelines, providing healthcare professionals with timely insights and decision support. This augmentation of human expertise can lead to more accurate diagnoses, improved treatment plans, and enhanced patient care. A notable example is the work of Rajkomar et al., published in The New England Journal of Medicine. The authors developed an AI algorithm capable of predicting patient deterioration within the next few hours, based on electronic health record data. By alerting healthcare providers in advance, this AI system helped to prevent adverse events and facilitated proactive interventions [6]. Drug Discovery and Clinical Research The drug discovery and development process is notoriously expensive and time-consuming. AI has the potential to accelerate this process by analyzing vast amounts of biomedical literature, genomic data, and clinical trial outcomes. Machine learning models can identify potential drug targets, predict drug toxicity, and optimize drug formulations. In fact, a study by Aliper et al., demonstrated that an AI system outperformed human researchers in designing new drugs to target age-related diseases [7]. Virtual Assistants and Telemedicine AI-powered virtual assistants and chatbots are transforming the way patients interact with healthcare providers. These virtual assistants can provide instant medical advice, answer queries, and triage patients based on their symptoms. Furthermore, telemedicine platforms integrated with AI algorithms can enhance remote patient monitoring, enabling healthcare professionals to monitor patients' vital signs and provide timely interventions [8,9]. Challenges and Ethical Considerations While the potential benefits of AI in medicine are substantial, it is important to address the challenges and ethical considerations associated with its implementation. Privacy and data security remain critical concerns when handling vast amounts of patient data. Maintaining patient confidentiality and ensuring secure data sharing frameworks must be prioritized to protect patient privacy. Moreover, the need for transparency and interpretability of AI algorithms is vital to build trust between healthcare professionals and AI systems. Understanding how AI arrives at its recommendations or diagnoses is crucial for healthcare providers to make informed decisions and ensure accountability. Conclusion: Artificial intelligence holds tremendous potential to revolutionize healthcare and improve patient outcomes. From enhancing diagnostic accuracy to enabling personalized treatment strategies and augmenting clinical decision-making, AI is transforming the field of medicine. However, to fully realize the benefits, it is essential to address the challenges surrounding privacy, data security, and algorithm transparency. Abstract:The health needs of those living in resource-limited settings are a vastly overlooked and understudied area in the intersection of machine learning (ML) and health care. While the use of ML in health care is more recently popularized over the last few years from the advancement of deep learning, low-and-middle income countries (LMICs) have already been undergoing a digital transformation of their own in health care over the last decade, leapfrogging milestones due to the adoption of mobile health (mHealth). With the introduction of new technologies, it is common to start afresh with a top-down approach, and implement these technologies in isolation, leading to lack of use and a waste of resources. In this paper, we outline the necessary considerations both from the perspective of current gaps in research, as well as from the lived experiences of health care professionals in resource-limited settings. We also outline briefly several key components of successful implementation and deployment of technologies within health systems in LMICs, including technical and cultural considerations in the development process relevant to the building of machine learning solutions. We then draw on these experiences to address where key opportunities for impact exist in resource-limited settings, and where AI/ML can provide the most benefit.

It examines the current utilization of AI in healthcare, focusing on its effects on patient and clinician involvement in healthcare decision-making. The assessment emphasizes key skill areas of Health Informatics, including IT, health information systems, security and privacy, telemedicine, m-Health, consumer health informatics, and clinical informatics. Findings: The study identifies several significant findings regarding the role of AI in healthcare. It highlights how AI technologies contribute to the generation of unstructured data, posing challenges for research and analysis. Additionally, the research underscores AI's ability to enhance personalized medical guidance, identify complex illnesses, forecast negative health occurrences, and improve patient outcomes. Moreover, it discusses AI's impact on social media and mobile apps, emphasizing its potential to gather valuable insights from online sources for a deeper understanding of patient needs and behaviors. Abstract:Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform care delivery by improving health outcomes, patient safety, and the affordability and accessibility of high-quality care. AI will be critical to building an infrastructure capable of caring for an increasingly aging population, utilizing an ever-increasing knowledge of disease and options for precision treatments, and combatting workforce shortages and burnout of medical professionals. However, we are not currently on track to create this future. This is in part because the health data needed to train, test, use, and surveil these tools are generally neither standardized nor accessible. There is also universal concern about the ability to monitor health AI tools for changes in performance as they are implemented in new places, used with diverse populations, and over time as health data may change. The Future of Health (FOH), an international community of senior health care leaders, collaborated with the Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy to conduct a literature review, expert convening, and consensus-building exercise around this topic. This commentary summarizes the four priority action areas and recommendations for health care organizations and policymakers across the globe that FOH members identified as important for fully realizing AI's potential in health care: improving data quality to power AI, building infrastructure to encourage efficient and trustworthy development and evaluations, sharing data for better AI, and providing incentives to accelerate the progress and impact of AI.

Abstract:Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expanding with colossal applications in various sectors. In the healthcare sector, it is booming to make life simpler with utmost accuracy by predicting, diagnosing and up to care with the help of Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) applications. Modern computer algorithms have attained accuracy levels comparable to those of human specialists in medical sciences, although computers often do jobs more quickly than people do. It is also expected that there will not be a mandate for humans to be present for the jobs that machines can do, and it is gaining the highest peak because of good trained artificial models in the medical field. ML enhances the therapeutic process and improves health by encouraging more patient participation. ML may get more accurate patient data when used with the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and automate message notifications that prompt patients to respond at certain times. Abstract:The developing fields of artificial intelligence (AI)/ machine learning (ML) offer a significant potential to improve healthcare services. Many areas of clinical practice, scientific research, and healthcare management have included AI/ML techniques. Screening and daily fitness monitoring, diagnostic services in gastroenterology, pathology, and radiology, as well as support for clinical decision-making and palliative care, are the main categories involved. However, there are significant obstacles to the widespread use of AI/ML in healthcare, including higher installation and maintenance costs, potentially harmful medical mistakes, a lack of ethical frameworks for AI, unemployment, and reduced capacity building within the human workforce. Many business initiatives have now been created in the field of healthcare AI/ML innovation. They offer everything from advanced diagnostics to vitals monitoring in their products and services. In short, AI/ML may be extremely important in addressing the difficulties with complexity and the explosion of data in the healthcare system. Abstract:Background: The intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 presents both opportunities and challenges. AI has the potential to enhance healthcare delivery by improving diagnostic accuracy, enabling personalized treatment approaches, and facilitating remote healthcare services through telemedicine. AI-driven technologies can also streamline administrative tasks, optimize resource allocation, and support evidence-based decision-making in healthcare settings. Objective: This study seeks to identify challenges and opportunities for utilizing AI to advance global health objectives to support Sustainable Development Goal 3 Methodology: A review of existing literature was carried out to evaluate the current landscape of AI applications in healthcare and its potential implications for SDG achievement. We identified constraints such as data bias, ethical considerations, and accessibility barriers, and looked at the potential remedies and strategies for maximizing the positive impact of AI in healthcare. Conclusion: There exists significant hurdles into the integration of AI into healthcare however there are promising prospects for enhancing healthcare delivery, disease prevention, and drug discovery processes. By addressing issues such as data bias, ethical dilemmas, and accessibility challenges, AI holds the potential to revolutionize healthcare systems on a global scale. Embracing AI technologies can contribute significantly to realizing SDGs pertaining to health and well-being, thereby fostering more sustainable and equitable healthcare practices.

Abstract:The twenty-first century has witnessed significant advancements in informatics, reshaping our understanding of data processing and accessibility. Artificial intelligence (AI), encompassing techniques such as machine learning (ML), deep learning (DP), and neural networks (NN), is poised to revolutionize medicine. AI holds the capability of analyzing vast amounts of data, extracting meaningful insights, and making accurate predictions, thereby empowering industries to make informed decisions, drive innovation, and enhance efficiency. The landscape of medical AI has evolved significantly, demonstrating expert-level disease detection from medical images and promising breakthroughs across various industries. AI revolutionizes medical practice by leveraging advanced algorithms and machine learning capabilities to improve diagnostics, treatment planning, and overall patient care. However, the deployment of medical AI systems in regular clinical practice still needs to be tapped, presenting complex ethical, technical, and human-centered challenges that must be addressed for successful implementation. While AI algorithms have shown efficacy in retrospective medical investigations, their translation into practical medical settings has been limited, raising concerns about their usability and interaction with healthcare professionals. Moreover, the representativeness of retrospective datasets in real-world medical practice is subject to filtering and cleaning biases. Integrating AI into clinical medicine holds great promise for transforming healthcare delivery, improving patient care, and revolutionizing aspects such as diagnosis, treatment planning, drug discovery, personalized treatment, and medical imaging. With advanced algorithms and machine learning capabilities, AI and robotics in Healthcare can analyze large volumes of medical data, extract meaningful insights, and provide accurate predictions, empowering healthcare professionals to make informed decisions and optimize resource allocation. The availability of extensive clinical, genomics, and digital imaging data, coupled with investments from healthcare institutions and technology giants, underscores the potential of AI in healthcare. This review article explores AI's powerful potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery across multiple domains, emphasizing the need to overcome challenges and harness its transformative capabilities in clinical practice.
Local treatment with human recombinant interleukin 2 inhibits growth of MC-induced sarcomas in syngeneic mice.

Abstract:In previous communications we have demonstrated that crude rat interleukin 2 and partially purified mouse interleukin 2 were capable of inhibiting growth of transplantable, MC-induced mouse sarcomas in syngeneic recipients. Here we report that repeated peritumoral injections of highly purified human recombinant interleukin 2 can inhibit growth of these mouse sarcomas and prolong survival of tumour-bearing mice. These findings taken together and the ready availability of high doses of recombinant human interleukin 2 substantiate our proposal for initiation of clinical trials using local administration of the interleukin 2 (Bubeník et al. 1983) in selected cancer patients.

Abstract:Growing global awareness that attention to health care is the basis for maintaining citizens' quality of life. Health institutions seek to increase interest in electronic care services and enhance patient results by integrating artificial intelligence techniques. Artificial intelligence tools are indispensable to diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. Integrating artificial intelligence techniques into the development of the electronic healthcare environment works to enhance public health and disease prevention and provide free services to all citizens. Designing electronic platforms raises health awareness in society, provides health programs and initiatives, and reaches homes, gardens, schools, and universities through applications based on artificial intelligence. The primary purpose of this article is to challenge the extent to which artificial intelligence is related to medicine and its contribution to the positive and negative effects of revolutionizing healthcare services.

Abstract:Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a crucial tool in healthcare with the primary aim of improving patient outcomes and optimizing healthcare delivery. By harnessing machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, and computer vision, AI enables the analysis of complex medical data. The integration of AI into healthcare systems aims to support clinicians, personalize patient care, and enhance population health, all while addressing the challenges posed by rising costs and limited resources. As a subdivision of computer science, AI focuses on the development of advanced algorithms capable of performing complex tasks that were once reliant on human intelligence. The ultimate goal is to achieve human-level performance with improved efficiency and accuracy in problem-solving and task execution, thereby reducing the need for human intervention. Various industries, including engineering, media/entertainment, finance, and education, have already reaped significant benefits by incorporating AI systems into their operations. Notably, the healthcare sector has witnessed rapid growth in the utilization of AI technology. Nevertheless, there remains untapped potential for AI to truly revolutionize the industry. It is important to note that despite concerns about job displacement, AI in healthcare should not be viewed as a threat to human workers. Instead, AI systems are designed to augment and support healthcare professionals, freeing up their time to focus on more complex and critical tasks. By automating routine and repetitive tasks, AI can alleviate the burden on healthcare professionals, allowing them to dedicate more attention to patient care and meaningful interactions. However, legal and ethical challenges must be addressed when embracing AI technology in medicine, alongside comprehensive public education to ensure widespread acceptance.
