Abstract:Objective To translate and revise the Assessment of Interprofessional Team Collaboration Scale (AITCS) into Chinese, then to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of AITCS. Methods The Chinese version of AITCS was translated from the original one, back-translated and adjusted for cultural adaptation. The reliability and validity were tested among 288 nurses, 81 physicians, 25 respiratory therapists, 10 physical therapists and 3 nutritionists from a tertiary hospital in Hangzhou using convenience sampling. Results The average of scale-level content validity index was 0.98, unanimity of scale-level content validity index was 0.84 and item-level content validity index was 0.89-1.00. Exploratory factor analysis extracted three common factors,which explained 61.427％ of the total variance,and each item had high factor loading quality (>0.4). The correlations coefficients between each dimension score and the total score ranged from 0.801 to 0.898 (P<0.05),and the correlations coefficients between each dimension score ranged from 0.607 to 0.698 (P<0.05). The Cronbach α of AITCS was 0.909, split-half reliability was 0.835 and test-retest reliability was 0.763. Conclusion TheChinese version of the AITCS has been proved to be reliable and valid. It is a valuable tool for evaluating interprofessional team collaboration among the health professional providers in mainland China.

Abstract:Aim To adapt culturally and assess the reliability and validity of the Attitudes, Subjective Norms, Perceived Behavioural Control and Intention to Pursue a Career in Mental Health Nursing (ASPIRE) scale among Chinese nursing students. Background Mental health nurses make up a substantial proportion of the mental health workforce and are pivotal for improving access to professional mental health care. However, a shortage of mental health nurses persists across various countries. Although new nursing graduates have the potential to alleviate the labor shortages, there is currently no standardized tool specifically designed to measure nursing students' intentions to pursue a career in mental health nursing in China. Design A quantitative and cross-sectional design. Methods Following email authorization from the author, the Chinese version of the ASPIRE scale was translated following the cross-cultural adaptation process guidelines established by the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS). A questionnaire survey was conducted among 540 nursing students from three universities in Hunan Province from April 2023 to October 2023. Nine experts were invited to evaluate the content equivalence of each item. Item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency reliability and test-retest reliability were used to test reliability and validity. Results The Chinese version of the ASPIRE scale retained 14 items and it has high content validity. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in the correlation between the total scores of the items (P < 0.001). Exploratory factor analysis indicated that the one-factor solution explained 65.82% of the total variance and confirmatory factor analysis results indicated a good fit (CMIN/DF = 2.64, RMSEA = 0.079, GFI = 0.908, IFI = 0.964, SRMR = 0.0326). The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the scale was 0.958 and the test-retest coefficient was 0.783. Conclusion The Chinese version of the ASPIRE scale has great reliability and validity and can be used for assessing Chinese nursing students' intention to pursue a career in mental health nursing.

Psychometric evaluation of the student nurse stressor-14 scale for undergraduate nursing interns

Abstract:Background: Currently, there are few scales used to assess the stressors experienced by undergraduate nursing interns during clinical practice, and the assessment of stressors during clinical practice is not comprehensive; the scale includes some unique stressors during training that is not available in the existing instruments used to assess nursing student practice stress in China. Aim: The study aimed to explore the structure of the Chinese revision of the Student Nurse Stressor-14 Scale(SNS-14-CHI)and investigate the psychometric properties it among Chinese undergraduate nursing interns. Methods: The original scale was culturally adjusted and revised after expert correspondence on the entries, and 414 undergraduate nursing interns were recruited from three cities in China to administer the questionnaire. Reliability was measured by internal consistency, fold-half reliability, and stability. Content validity was evaluated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to assess the validity of the SNS-14-CHI. Results: The SNS-14-CHI retained 14 items, the EFA supported a 2-factor structure, and the items' factor attribution differed from the original scale. The CFA results showed a good model fit. The Cronbach coefficient of the scale was 0.934, and the coefficient values of the two factors were 0.890 and 0.898. The content validity index of the scale was 0.964.The cumulative variance contribution of the 2-factor structure was 60.445%. The split-half reliability and stability were 0.869,0.762, respectively. Conclusion: The SNS-14-CHI has excellent reliability and validity among undergraduate nursing trainees. The evaluation results of the scale can provide a reference for nursing managers to develop educational programs and interventions to quantify nursing student stress.

However, there are no assessment tools to measure the contributions nursing students make to the clinical setting during clinical practicum. This study aimed to translate the 'Nursing Student Contributions to Clinical Settings' scale into Chinese and test its reliability and validity from the perspective of Chinese clinical nurses. Abstract:Background Levels of self-awareness may affect the decision-making ability of clinical nurses and may also be related to mental health. Therefore, it is crucial to develop tools to identify nurses’ level of self-awareness. The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of a short scale among Chinese nurses and to explore the factors associated with nurses’ self-awareness. Methods A total of 957 participants were recruited, 549 participants were used for reliability tests and 408 subjects were used for impact factor studies. They completed the General Information Questionnaire, the Self-Awareness Scale for Nurses, and the Psychological Distress Scale. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, and retest reliability were used to investigate the psychometric properties of the Self-Awareness Scale for Nurses. Multiple regression analyses were used in this study to investigate the relationship between nurses’ self-awareness and the independent variables. Results A 4-factor model of the Chinese version of the Self-Awareness Scale for Nurses was validated. The overall Cronbach’s alpha value for the Chinese version of the Self-Awareness Scale for Nurses was 0.873. Cronbach’s alpha values for each subscale ranged from 0.808 to 0.979. Significant predictors of each dimension of the Self-awareness and the total score of the scale were age and work experience. Conclusion The Chinese version of the Self-Awareness Scale for Nurses is a valid and reliable scale.

Abstract:Objective: This study endeavors to translate and psycho-metrically validate the metacognitive awareness inventory scale (MAS) for nursing students in China. Method: A total of 592 nursing students were enlisted from four universities situated in the eastern, southern, western, and northern regions of China. Content validity and reliability were evaluated using the content validity index and item-total correlation coefficient, and Cronbach's alpha coefficients, respectively. Convergent validity examined the goodness of fit among sub-scales through the average extracted variance and composite reliability. Results: Exploratory factor analysis confirmed the first-order and second-order factor models, contributing to a cumulative variance of 89.4 and 59.5%, respectively. The Cronbach's alpha values were 0.963 and 0.801, respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis outcomes indicated an excellent overall fit index for the model, satisfying the convergent validity criteria and achieving a target coefficient of 96.0%, which is consistent with the original scale structure. Conclusion: The Chinese version of the MAS (C-MAS) is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing metacognitive awareness among Chinese nursing students. Further research should consider a broader sample of nursing students across China to reinforce the scale's applicability.

Abstract:Background: Professional attitude is of great importance for nursing talents in the modern society. To develop an effective educational program for student nurses in China, an appropriate instrument is required for the assessment of their professional attitude.Objective: To assess the validity and reliability of the Instrument of Professional Attitude for Student Nurses (IPASN) in Chinese version.Methods: The original version of IPASN was translated through Brislin model (translation, back translation, culture adaption and pilot study) with the authorization from the developer. A total of 681 nursing students were chosen by stratified convenience sampling to assess construct validity using exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Besides, item analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficients, test-retest reliability were conducted to test the psychometric properties in this part. A total of 204 nursing undergraduate trainees were selected by cluster convenience sampling to confirm the structure using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in another time.Results: Corrected item-total correlations, alpha if item deleted were between 0.33 and 0.69, 0.906 and 0.913, respectively, indicating no item should be deleted. Cronbach alpha value was 0.91 for the total scale and Cronbach alpha coefficient for subscales ranged from 0.67 to 0.89. Test-retest reliability estimated from intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.74 (P < 0.05). Differences in item scores between the high-score group (the first 27%) and low-score group (the last 27%) were significant (P < 0.001), indicating that the item discrimination ability was good. Seven subscales (contribution to increase of scientific information load, autonomy, community service, continuous education, to promote professional development, cooperation and theory guiding practice) were identified in EFA and confirmed in CFA, and explained 65.5% of the total variance.Conclusion: It indicated that the Chinese version of IPASN was valid and reliable for the evaluation of nursing students' professional attitude. Abstract:For the stabilization of the nursing profession in mainland China, a valid and reliable nursing work environment instrument, grounded in China's context, should be developed to better provide rigorous evidence for policy makers.The purpose of the current research was to further develop a scale that could capture the characteristics of the nursing work environment in mainland China.A convenience sample of 542 nurses employed in a tertiary hospital of mainland China completed the 108-item Chinese Nursing Work Environment (C-NWE) Scale (1st ed.). Items that did not differentiate between respondents with the highest and lowest 27% of total scores and those that did not meet criteria for factor loadings were set aside. Exploratory factor analysis based on the maximum likelihood method was used to identify the structure of the scale. The chi-square test was used to evaluate model fit, and expert review was conducted to test content validity. Reliability was estimated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient.The revised C-NWE Scale, which consists of nine subscales and 47 items, is a simplified version of the C-NWE (1st ed.). Using exploratory maximum likelihood factor analysis, the normed chi-square fit index for a nine-factor solution was 1.97. The content validity index for the total scale was 0.93; Cronbach's alpha was .94.Initial evidence of the psychometric properties of C-NWE scores was presented. Further studies could be conducted in various settings to identify the C-NWE Scale's validity and reliability.

Abstract:AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To test the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture scale among staff in long-term care facilities.BACKGROUND: The Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture scale is a standard tool for safety culture assessment in nursing homes. Extending its application to different types of long-term care facilities and varied ethnic populations is worth pursuing.DESIGN: A national random survey.METHODS: A total of 306 managers and staff completed the Chinese version of the Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture scale among 30 long-term care facilities in Taiwan. Content validity and construct validity were tested by content validity index (CVI) and principal axis factor analysis (PAF) with Promax rotation. Concurrent validity was tested through correlations between the scale and two overall rating items. Reliability was computed by intraclass correlation coefficient and Cronbach's α coefficients. Statistical analyses such as descriptive, Pearson's and Spearman's rho correlations and PAF were completed.RESULTS: Scale-level and item-level CVIs (0.91-0.98) of the Chinese version of the Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture scale were satisfactory. Four-factor construct and merged item composition differed from the Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture scale, and it accounted for 53% of variance. Concurrent validity was evident by existing positive correlations between the scale and two overall ratings of resident safety. Cronbach's α coefficients of the subscales and the Chinese version of the Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture scale ranged from .76-.94.CONCLUSIONS: The Chinese version of the Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture scale identified essential dimensions to reflect the important features of a patient safety culture in long-term care facilities. The researchers introduced the Chinese version of the Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture for safety culture assessment in long-term care facilities, but further testing of the reliability of the scale in a large Chinese sample and in different long-term care facilities was recommended.RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: The Chinese version of the Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture scale was developed to increase the users' intention towards safety culture assessment. It can identify areas for improvement, understand safety culture changes over time and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.

Abstract:This paper identifies uncertainties and problems in the practical application of the ICNIRP low frequency basic restriction on current density. This quantity should be averaged over a cross-section of 1 cm2 perpendicular to the current direction. The rationale and the sensitivity of the current density average are investigated. There are difficulties in finding a square centimetre of spinal cord over which to average. The consequences of including neighbouring tissues in the averages are investigated in the male and female voxel models NORMAN and NAOMI for applied uniform electric and magnetic fields at 50 Hz. Also the case of the non-uniform magnetic field from a horizontal current carrying conductor adjacent to the back of the body is investigated. The maximum and 99th percentile current density values are compared with the 1 cm2 average in the derivation of external field reference levels. Chinese version of the nursing students' perception of instructor caring (C-NSPIC): assessment of reliability and validity

Abstract:Background: The nursing students' perceptions of instructor caring (NSPIC) is an instrument to assess the influence of caring interactions between students and faculty on students' ability to care. However, the validity and reliability of the Chinese version has not yet been studied. Objectives: The study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of NSPIC (C-NSPIC). Design: This is a cross-sectional study. Setting: The study was performed in three Tertiary Grade A (top level in China) and teaching hospitals in Shanghai, China. Participants: The participants of the study are nursing students during clinical practice. Methods: The English version of nursing students' perception of instructor caring scale was professionally translated into Chinese and a pilot test was undertaken to ensure the equivalence of meaning and cultural appropriateness. The content validity of the C-NSPIC was examined by a panel of eight experts, and test-retest was conducted to assess the item reliabilities of the scale. A convenience sampling method was used to recruit nursing students. A first sample (N=256) was recruited to explore the factorial structure of the C-NSPIC using exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and a validation sample (N=358) was recruited to confirm the findings from the EFA using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). SPSS version 16.0 was used for the EFA and Amos 17.0 was used for the CFA. Results: The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the C-NSPIC was 0.933. The test-retest reliability was satisfactory, with the ICC scores for each item ranging from 0.603 to 0.962. The overall content validity index was 0.96. Five factors (control versus flexibility, supportive learning climate, confidence through caring, appreciation of life meaning and respectful sharing) were identified in EFA, which was consistent with that of the original English version, and were confirmed by CFA. Conclusion: The C-NSPIC can serve as a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the nursing students' perception of instructor caring in China, which may help to improve the nursing students' caring ability in China.
The Chinese version of the Nursing Student Academic Resilience Inventory: A validity and reliability study

Abstract:Aim: To translate and adapt the Nursing Student Academic Resilience Inventory (NSARI) into Chinese and assess its validity and reliability among Chinese nursing students. Background: Nursing students frequently encounter stress during their clinical education and academic resilience is an important skill to help students withstand stress. The NSARI is a valid and reliable tool for assessing the level of academic resilience of nursing students during clinical practice. Currently, there is no valid and reliable measurement tool to assess academic resilience for nursing students in China. Design: A descriptive, methodological and cross-sectional design was used. Method: This study was conducted on 600 nursing students in Northeast China. A socio-demographic form, the Chinese version of the NSARI and the nurse resilience scale were used for data collection between May to November 2023. The exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis samples comprised 300 students, respectively, to test the structural validity of the inventory. In addition, internal consistency and invariance analyses were conducted to assess the reliability of the inventory. Results: The Chinese version of NSARI comprises 24 items separated into six dimensions. Exploratory factor analysis extracted six factors, with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 71.908 %. Confirmatory factor analysis showed a satisfactory fit. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the internal consistency of the total inventory was 0.939 with a test-retest stability reliability value of 0.957. Conclusion: The Chinese version of NSARI is a valid and reliable measurement tool for assessing the level of academic resilience of nursing students during clinical placement.
Translation and validation of the traditional Chinese NLN educational practices questionnaire, simulation design scale and student satisfaction and self-confidence in learning

Abstract:Background and objective: Globally, the use of clinical simulation has been incorporated in different nursing programs. It is important to evaluate simulation using reliable and valid instruments. Using the same instrument helps to evaluate simulation under the same criteria both nationally and internationally. The National League of Nursing developed three simulation scales which is widely used in different countries and demonstrates a good reliability and validity. Nevertheless, it is only available in English. The aim of the study was to translate the original NLN simulation evaluation scales into Traditional Chinese and evaluate its psychometric properties.Methods: Beaton and colleague’s (2000) cross-cultural adaptation guidelines was adopted. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient (α) and Corrected item-total correlation was used to determine the internal reliability. Haccoun’s single group technique was used to assess the equivalent of the scale in the original and the translated version. Lastly, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was used to determine the factor structure and Intra-Class Correlation Coefficient (ICC) to test the stability of translated scale.Results: Nine simulation experts from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Singapore and Taiwan confirmed translation of the NLN scales (EPQ-C, SDS-C, SSCL-C). Cronbach’s alpha of all subscales and overall scales were acceptable (0.72-0.89). The intra-language, inter-language and temporal inter-language cross correlations between the original and translated scales were correlated (p < 0.01). ICC of the translated scales ranges from good to excellent (0.78-0.91). Lastly, EFA also demonstrated the items were theoretically coherent (≥ 0.40) and have the same factor structure as the original English version.Conclusions: Traditional Chinese NLN simulation evaluation scales demonstrated strong validity and reliability.

Abstract:Objective To provide a validated Chinese-language measurement of the Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture (NHSOPS) in mainland China. The primary goal is to carry out a transcultural adaptation of the NHSOPS Questionnaire into Chinese and evaluate its psychometric properties. Design A psychometric evaluation study is constructed. First, the ‘translation–back-translation–cultural adaptation’ and the pretesting procedure were followed to introduce the NHSOPS. Second, a cross-sectional survey was used to assess the psychometric properties for the mainland China version of the NHSOPS (M-NHSOPS), and a test–retest survey was then applied. Setting and participants The survey was carried out among 1397 nursing home staff from 50 nursing homes in Southwest China. Outcome measures Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to assess the potential structure, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was then applied. Reliability was assessed by the content validity index, Cronbach’s α and the test–retest value. Results Among the 1397 respondents, 1211 were included (86.7%). EFA was used, and a nine-factor structure was explored. Five factors (Cronbach’s α >0.6) were selected into the new structure for the M-NHSOPS. Moreover, data showed that it was suitable for CFA, and convergent validity and discriminant validity were satisfactory. On the other hand, M-NHSOPS contains five dimensions and 22 items. The overall Cronbach’s α value was 0.883; the values of each dimension ranged from 0.648 to 0.913. Additionally, content validity showed significant performance. Eventually, test–retest reliability was 0.892, and each dimension was 0.713, 0.809, 0.924, 0.795 and 0.859, respectively (p<0.001). Conclusions M-NHSOPS has acceptable reliability and satisfactory validity among staff of nursing homes in Southwest China, and further verification among samples in other regions of mainland China is required.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to translate the Burnout Syndrome Assessment Scale (BOSAS) into Chinese and validate its reliability and validity among Chinese emergency department and ICU nurses. Methods: The scale was translated into Chinese using Brislin's translation principle. A total of 626 nurses from Jiangxi, Zhejiang, and Fujian provinces in China participated in an online questionnaire survey. The survey included the general information questionnaire for nurses developed by the research team and the Chinese version of the Burnout Syndrome Assessment Scale. Reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the scale were analyzed using SPSS.25 and AMOS.24 software. Results: The Chinese version of the Burnout Syndrome Assessment Scale consists of a total of 20 items, encompassing two dimensions: personal burnout and job burnout. This structure is consistent with the original English version of the scale. The Chinese version of BOSAS demonstrated high internal consistency, with a Cronbach's α coefficient of 0.941. Additionally, the scale exhibited good split-half reliability (0.765) and test-retest reliability (0.871). The content validity index (S-CVI) was 0.971, indicating strong content validity. Exploratory factor analysis confirmed the same 2-factor structure as the original scale, and confirmatory factor analysis further validated this structure, with all fit indices indicating appropriateness. Conclusion: The Burnout Syndrome Assessment Scale has been successfully introduced and its reliability and validity have been verified in Chinese emergency department and ICU nurses.
