Abstract:The new Gentlefile (GF) system, made of stainless steel and developed by MedicNRG in Kibbutz Afikim, Israel, claims to have advantages over traditional nickel-titanium files. However, research has shown that nickel-titanium files are mechanically superior due to their increased flexibility, cutting efficiency, and ability to maintain canal anatomy with less risk of procedural errors. This study compared the amount of debris extrusion and the time required for root canal instrumentation using GF versus the nickel-titanium ProTaper Universal (PTU) system and a manual step-back (MSB) stainless steel technique. This in vitro experimental study utilized 66 extracted human single-canal mandibular premolars with mature apices and root curvature of less than 10 degrees. The teeth were randomly divided into three groups (n = 22) and standardized for working length before being placed in preweighed vials. Group 1 was instrumented with PTU, Group 2 with GF, and Group 3 with the MSB technique. Extruded debris was collected in the vials, dried in an incubator, and weighed using the same scale. The change in weight indicates the debris amount. Instrumentation time was recorded using a stopwatch. The normal distribution of data was assessed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The groups were then compared regarding the amount of extruded debris and instrumentation time using the Kruskal-Wallis test and one-way ANOVA, followed by the Games-Howell test, respectively (alpha = 0.05). No significant difference in apical debris extrusion was found among the three groups (P > 0.05). However, a significant difference in instrumentation time was detected between the groups (P < 0.05). MSB instrumentation took significantly longer than both the PTU (P = 0.001) and GF (P = 0.001) systems. The GF system did not demonstrate reduced apical debris extrusion or faster instrumentation time compared to PTU. MSB had the longest instrumentation time compared to the other techniques.

Abstract:The article presents the results of tests of a portable post-laryngectomy voice replacement system that allows a silently articulating speaker to select and play back short phrases contained in a 60-phrase phrasebook. Such a system could be a useful communication tool for post-laryngectomy patients unable to use tracheo-oesophageal speech. Experiments on two non-pathological speakers and one person having undergone a total laryngectomy in 1998 are presented. Results are promising and provide proof of principle for a more sophisticated system currently being developed.
Comparative evaluation of apical debris extrusion during root canal preparation using three different rotary file systems

Abstract:Background: Endodontic success depends on the complete cleaning and shaping of the root canal. In order to achieve this goal, debris removal is essential. Even with improvements in instrument design, apical debris extrusion continues to be a cause of periradicular inflammation. The current study aimed to compare the amount of apically extruded debris throughout the canal instrumentation with TruNatomy, ProTaper Next, 2Shape rotary systems. Methods: A total of 60 freshly extracted single‑rooted mandibular premolars were used. An access opening was made, and a working length was estimated. The samples were arbitrarily allocated into three groups i.e. Group I: TruNatomy (n = 20), Group II: ProTaper Next (n = 20), Group III: 2Shape (n = 20). During the canal instrumentation, the extruded debris were collected in preweighed Eppendorf tubes. Post-instrumentation, the tubes were placed in a hot air oven at 140°C for five hours. For calculating the dry debris weight, the tube's pre-instrumentation weight was deducted from the post-instrumentation weight. The data was analysed using one‑way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey's test. Results: Extrusion of debris was noted in all the specimens. TruNatomy rotary system showed least debris extrusion in comparison to ProTaper Next and 2Shape (P < 0.05). However, the results were statistically non-significant between ProTaper Next and 2Shape (P > 0.05). Conclusions: It was noted that all instruments apically extruded debris, with TruNatomy system being related to minimum extrusion.
In vitro investigation of the cleaning efficacy, shaping ability, preparation time and file deformation of continuous rotary, reciprocating rotary and manual instrumentations in primary molars

Abstract:Background. Efficient canal preparation is the key to successful root canal treatment. This study aimed to assess the cleaning and shaping ability, preparation time and file deformation of rotary, reciprocating and manual instrumentation in canal preparation of primary molars. Methods. The mesiobuccal canals of 64 extracted primary mandibular second molars were injected with India ink. The samples were randomly divided into one control and three experimental groups. Experimental groups were instrumented with K-file, Mtwo in continuous rotation and Reciproc in reciprocating motion, respectively. The control group received no treatment. The files were discarded after four applications. Shaping ability was evaluated using CBCT. After clearing, ink removal was scored. Preparation time and file fracture or deformation was also recorded. Data were analyzed with SPSS 19 using chi-squared, Fisher's exact test, Kruskal-Wallis and post hoc tests at a significance level of 0.05. Results. Considering cleanliness, at coronal third Reciproc was better than K-file (P < 0.001), but not more effective than Mtwo (P = 0.080). Furthermore, Mtwo leaved the canal cleaner than K-file (P = 0.001). In the middle third, only Reciproc exhibited better cleaning efficacy than K-file (P = 0.005). In the apical third, no difference was detected between the groups (P = 0.794). Regarding shaping ability, no differences were found between Reciproc and Mtwo (P = 1.00). Meanwhile, both displayed better shaping efficacy than K-file (P < 0.05). Between each two groups, there were differences in preparation time (P < 0.05), with Reciproc being the fastest. No file failure occurred. Conclusion. Fast and sufficient cleaning and shaping could be achieved with Mtwo and especially with Reciproc.
Reducing Apical Bacterial Extrusion: The Impact of Reciproc File Size and Irrigation Technique

Abstract:Introduction: This study used different irrigation techniques to compare the levels of apical bacterial extrusion during the preparation of root canals with a reciprocating instrument widely used in endodontics, the Reciproc files 25/0.08 and 40/0.06. Materials and methods: The irrigation techniques employed were conventional syringe irrigation and passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI); the latter, with one or two activation cycles. Seventy extracted mandibular human premolars were contaminated with Enterococcus faecalis for 5 days and were distributed into 6 experimental groups (n=10), and the remaining specimens were used as positive and negative control groups (n=5). Group 1: instrumentation performed with Reciproc 25/0.08 and conventional syringe irrigation; Group 2: instrumentation performed with Reciproc 25/0.08 along with PUI for one minute after instrumentation (PUI-1); and Group 3: instrumentation performed with Reciproc 25/0.08 along with PUI for one minute before and after instrumentation (PUI-2). Groups 4, 5 and 6 were instrumented with Reciproc 40/0.06, and irrigation was performed similar to the previous groups, in the aforementioned order. Each root canal was irrigated with saline solution. Extruded debris was collected in microtubes. The contents of the microtubes were homogenized, diluted, and spread on Brain Heart Infusion agar. After 48 hours, the number of colony-forming units was determined for each sample. For statistical analysis, the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Dunn's tests were used (α=0.05). Results: The CFU/mL count indicated that the instrumentation with Reciproc 25/0.08 was associated with the highest bacterial extrusion, mainly when PUI was performed (P<0.05). Conclusion: All the instrumentation techniques caused bacterial extrusion through the apical foramen; however, the largest file size of the Reciproc 40/0.06 groups was associated with less apical bacterial extrusion.
Comparative Evaluation of Debris Expulsion Beyond Apex During Re-root Canal Treatment by Utilizing Two Re-treatment Rotary Files and Two Reciprocating Files: An In-Vitro Study

Abstract:Aim: This study aimed to assess and compare debris quality expelled beyond the apex during re-treatment using two reciprocating and two re-treatment rotary files. Materials and methods: A total of 80 healthy human mandibular premolars excised for orthodontic therapy were selected. Distilled water was used to sterilize the teeth before they were preserved. The canals were widened and coronal access was created so that the F2 ProTaper universal system could be used. For the obturation, we utilized gutta-percha cones and AH plus sealant. All samples were cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) recorded. Teeth were separated into four groups (n=20); Group 1: ProTaper re-treatment, Group 2: Mtwo re-treatment, Group 3: WaveOne gold, and Group 4: Reciproc. The re-instrumented process included collecting the extruded debris in Eppendorf tubes and then drying it off by evaporating the distilled water. The weight of the tube with debris was subtracted from the weight of the tube without debris to get the dry debris weight. Post-retreatment CBCT was recorded for all samples. Mean apical debris extrusion values were obtained, after which necessary statistical analysis was obtained using SPSS Statistics, version 21 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY) to obtain the results. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the student t-test were utilized for statistical analysis to compare the different experimental groups. Post-hoc Bonferroni tests were used to compare several groups. Result: No statistical difference (p>0.05) was identified in the filler material that was left over across all groups. The reciprocating files discharged more material compared with re-treatment file systems. Conclusion: The Reciproc files expelled more waste than WaveOne gold, ProTaper re-treatment, and Mtwo re-treatment file systems. Reciprocating file systems showed better cleaning efficiency compared to the re-treatment file systems.
Apical extrusion of debris during the preparation of oval root canals: a comparative study between a full-sequence SAF system and a rotary file system supplemented by XP-endo finisher file

Abstract:ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to assess the amount of apically extruded debris during the preparation of oval canals with either a rotary file system supplemented by the XP-endo Finisher file or a full-sequence self-adjusting file (SAF) system.Materials and methodsSixty mandibular incisors were randomly assigned to two groups: group A: stage 1—glide path preparation with Pre-SAF instruments. Stage 2—cleaning and shaping with SAF. Group B: stage 1—glide path preparation with ProGlider file. Stage 2—cleaning and shaping with ProTaper Next system. Stage 3—Final cleaning with XP-endo Finisher file. The debris extruded during each of the stages was collected, and the debris weights were compared between the groups and between the stages within the groups using t tests with a significance level set at P < 0.05.ResultsThe complete procedure for group B resulted in significantly more extruded debris compared to group A. There was no significant difference between the stages in group A, while there was a significant difference between stage 2 and stages 1 and 3 in group B, but no significant difference between stages 1 and 3.ConclusionsBoth instrumentation protocols resulted in extruded debris. Rotary file followed by XP-endo Finisher file extruded significantly more debris than a full-sequence SAF system. Each stage, in either procedure, had its own contribution to the extrusion of debris.Clinical relevanceFinal preparation with XP-endo Finisher file contributes to the total amount of extruded debris, but the clinical relevance of the relative difference in the amount of apically extruded debris remains unclear.

Instrumentation time and effectiveness of hand and rotary files in a prototyped second mandibular primary molar: A micro-CT study

Abstract:Background: Eccentric instruments have been proposed as more effective and less time-consuming for endodontic instrumentation. Aim: To compare biomechanical outcomes of different instrumentation systems and time undertaken for instrumentation in resin prototypes. Design: Sixty standardized prototypes of mandibular second primary molars were instrumented according to the following systems: K-files, ProTaper Next (PTN), XP-endo Shaper (XPS), XP-endo Finisher (XPF), XP-Clean (XPC), and Sequence Baby File (SBF; n = 10/each). Irrigation was performed with saline with simultaneous aspiration, and time spent was recorded. The prototypes were micro-CT-scanned before and after the instrumentation, and image sets were reconstructed and registered. Non-instrumented areas, accumulated debris, removed root material volume, and canal transportation were quantified. Data were analyzed through ANOVA, the Kruskal-Wallis test, and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (α = 5%). Results: K-files and SBF resulted in more instrumentation time (p < .05). SBF, XPC and PTN removed less root dentine (p < .05), but PTN left more untouched areas (p < .05). Accumulated debris were lower for XPC and SBF (p < .05). Canal transportation was similar among the groups. Conclusion: Rotary systems reduced instrumentation time, whereas SBF and XPC resulted in more conservative instrumentation, with less debris accumulation and non-instrumented areas. A dedicated paediatric endodontic system (SBF) outperformed eccentric instruments in terms of effectiveness.
Modeling and verifying the Ariadne protocol using process algebra

Abstract:Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are formed dynamically by mobile nodes without the support of prior stationary infrastructures. In such networks, routing protocols, particularly secure ones are always the essential parts. Ariadne, an efficient and well-known on-demand secure protocol of MANETs, mainly concerns about how to prevent a malicious node from compromising the route. In this paper, we apply the method of process algebra Communicating Sequential Processes (CSP) to model and reason about the Ariadne protocol, focusing on the process of its route discovery. In our framework, we consider the communication entities as CSP processes, including the initiator, the intermediate nodes and the target. Moreover, we also propose an intruder model allowing the intruder to learn and deduce much information from the protocol and the environment. Note that the modeling approach is also applicable to other protocols, which are based on the on-demand routing protocols and have the route discovery process. Finally, we use PAT, a model checker for CSP, to verify whether the model caters for the specification and the non-trivial secure properties, e.g. nonexistence of fake path. Three case studies are given and the verification results naturally demonstrate that the fake routing attacks may be present in the Ariadne protocol.
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF APICAL EXTRUSION OF DEBRIS AND SHAPING ABILITY IN CURVED ROOT CANALS USING FOUR DIFFERENT NITI INSTRUMENTS

Abstract:Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the apical extrusion of debris, apical transportation (AT) and centering ratio (CR) after root canal preparation using Reciproc, ProTaper, ProTaper Next (PTN) and Revo-S. Materials and methods: Sixty extracted human mandibular premolars with a curvature angle of 25 degrees and the same length were randomly divided into four groups (n=15). All root canals were shaped to size of 25: ProTaper Next X2 (Dentsply Maillefer), Reciproc (R25; VDW, Munich, Germany), Revo-S SU (25#, .06; MicroMega, Besancon, France) and ProTaper F2 (25#, .08; Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland). All roots were sectioned perpendicularly at 1, 3, 5 and 7 mm from the apex and were scanned by a micro-CT before and after the preparation. During this process, collect the debris of each tooth and weigh it three times consecutively. The amount of apical debris extrusion, AT and CR of teeth were recorded and compared between the groups by using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: In terms of extruded debris, all specimens showed apical debris extrusion, and no statistically significant difference was obtained among them (P>.05). In terms of transportation, there was no significant difference among the four groups (P >0.05); in terms of centering ratio, PTN and Revo-S had significantly higher (closer to C=1) centreing ratios than Reciproc and ProTaper. There was a significant difference between PTN and ProTaper (P<0.05), PTN and Reciproc (P<0.05), ProTaper and Revo-S (P<0.05) at 3 mm and 5 mm from the apical surface, but there was no significant difference in the mean centering ratio at 1 mm or 7 mm from the apical surface among the four groups. Conclusion: ProTaper Next and Revo-S prepared a more centered root canal shapes. All instruments caused extrusion of debris through the apex.
Comparative evaluation of efficacy of three single file retreatment systems for removal of gutta percha and assessment of root canal transportation - An In Vitro study

Abstract:Background: In comparison to multiple file systems, recent advancements in single file retreatment systems had reduced the working time and ease of operation for clinicians.Aim: To compare the efficacy of retreatment systems compared with hand instrumentation, by evaluating their removal efficacy, time required for retreatment and assessment of canal transportation.Methods and Material: Forty premolars were instrumented using ProTaper Gold gold files. Post instrumentation, scan was taken, obturated using warm vertical compaction technique, and stored in artificial saliva for three months and randomly divided into four groups for retreatment. Hand instrumentation (Hi), Neoniti (Nn), Mtwo R (Mt), WaveOne Gold (Wg). Post retreatment, scan was taken. Teeth were sectioned longitudinally and photographed under the stereomicroscope. Retreatment time was recorded, and canal transportation was calculated.Statistical Analysis: The results were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey's post hoc test at 95% confidence level.Results: The retreatment time was significantly longer in the Hi group. Within the test groups, a significantly longer time has been taken by Wg (p < 0.05) compared to Mt and Nn. There was no difference in the canal transportation between the single file systems at 3 mm, 6 mm and 9 mm from the apex, there was statistically significant higher transportation for the Hi group at 9 mm from the apex (p < 0.05).Conclusions: All techniques were effective in removal of filling material with minimal canal transportation. Wg system was shown to increased time compared to Nn and Mt systems. Hi group was slowest with maximum canal transportation at 9 mm from the apex.
Evaluation of apically extruded debris during root canal filling material removal in teeth with external apical root resorption: a comparison of different obturation techniques

Abstract:Background: Root canal retreatment is necessary when initial treatment fails. Nickel-titanium systems help remove filling materials; however, some methods can cause canal content extrusion, resulting in inflammation and delayed healing. This study aimed to examine the impact of different preparation techniques and endodontic file systems on apical debris volume to limit material dispersion to periradicular tissues. Methods: Ninety extracted maxillary incisors were evaluated. Simulated apical root resorption was created by removing the apical 2 mm of the root. The teeth were divided into two groups: one filled with a single cone and the other with cold lateral compaction (CLC). Each group was further divided into three subgroups (n = 15 each): Subgroup 1 used Reciproc R25 for removal and R50 for final preparation; Subgroup 2 used ProTaper Universal Retreatment (PTUR) files D1, D2, and D3 for removal and ProTaper Next X5 for finalization; and Subgroup 3 used VDW.Rotate Retreatment (VDW.RotateR) for removal and VDW.Rotate 50.04 for completion. Debris from retreatment was collected in pre-weighed tubes to determine the amount. The apical extrusion data underwent a two-way analysis of variance. Results: The Reciproc group had a mean extruded debris weight of 0.54 ± 0.24 mg, higher than the PTUR (0.28 ± 0.15 mg) and VDW.RotateR (0.39 ± 0.29 mg) groups (p < 0.05). The single-cone technique (SCT) resulted in a mean debris weight of 0.34 ± 0.23 mg, lower than the CLC technique, which had a mean of 0.46 ± 0.27 mg (p < 0.05). SCT had a shorter retreatment duration (111.12 ± 33.46 s) compared to CLC (176.26 ± 52.26 s) (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The Reciproc file system and the CLC obturation technique resulted in greater apical debris extrusion than the other methods. SCT was quicker than CLC. The Reciproc groups are more susceptible to apex extrusion during retreatment.
Evaluation of apically extruded debris using protaper universal, protaper next, one curve, Xp shaper, and edge file: An in vitro study

Abstract:Introduction: Effective chemo-mechanical debridement is essential for a successful endodontic treatment. The present study aimed to determine the quantity of apical extruded debris during instrumentation by Protaper Universal (PTU), Protaper Next (PTN), One Curve, Xp Shaper, and Edge file systems. Materials and Methods: Fifty human maxillary first molars were chosen for this study. The palatal roots of teeth were decoronated using a diamond disk at length 13 mm, Then 50 samples were randomly divided to five groups ( n = 10) (Group I: PTU file; Group II: PTN file; Group III: One Curve file; Group IV: XP Shaper file; and Group V: Edge file). After instrumentation, the root-cap assembly was detached from the glass vial. After that, the outer surface of the root was rinsed in the vial by 2 mL of normal saline to eliminate any debris that could have attached to it. The samples’ vials were stored in a hot air oven for 2 h at 100°C to allow moisture to evaporate before the debris was weighed with an electronic balance that had a 0.0001 g precision. Results: The data were statistically analyzed, and the greatest amount of extruded debris was in the PTU file (mean = 1.596), which had a statistically significant difference ( P < 0.05) with all other groups. Conclusion: Even after taking the study’s limitations into account, apical debris extrusion was observed in all groups. In contrast to the PTU file system, which exhibited the greatest value, the One Curve file system showed the lowest mean value of apical extrusion debris.
In Vitro Efficacy of Apical Negative Pressure Irrigation in Primary Teeth: A Smear Layer Analysis

Abstract:Aim and background: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of root canal debris removal in primary teeth through irrigation using the Endo-Irrigator Plus (CWAIS). Materials and methods: A total of 25 primary mandibular first molars were divided into five groups, with five teeth in each group. After determining the working length and performing biomechanical preparation, groups I and II were subjected to hand and rotary instrumentation (ProTaper, Dentsply, United States of America) with conventional syringe irrigation with positive pressure, while groups III and IV were instrumented using hand and rotary instrumentation with positive and negative pressure irrigation employing the Endo-Irrigator Plus (CWAIS) system. Sodium hypochlorite (5.25%) and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) (17%) were used as irrigants. Group V served as the control group, undergoing only root canal access opening. The removal of the smear layer was analyzed at the cervical, middle, and apical thirds of the canal using environmental scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed among all groups at the cervical, middle, and apical levels (p < 0.05). Groups III and IV exhibited significantly lower smear scores at all levels, particularly in the apical third, as observed through SEM examination. Conclusion: The use of the Endo-Irrigator Plus (CWAIS) system demonstrated superior debridement of intracanal debris in primary teeth compared to the positive pressure irrigation method. Apical Debris Extrusion by Adaptive Root Canal Instrumentation in Oval Canals: Full-Sequence SAF System vs. the XP-Endo Shaper Plus Sequence

Abstract:Apical extrusion of debris (AED) by the full sequence of the self-adjusting file (SAF) system was compared with that of the XP-endo shaper plus sequence. Sixty permanent mandibular incisors were randomly assigned to two groups (n = 30) for root canal instrumentation: Group A: Stage 1—pre-SAF OS, pre-SAF 1 and pre-SAF 2 files, followed by Stage 2—1.5 mm SAF; and Group B: Stage 1— hand K-file 15/0.02, followed by Stage 2—XP-endo shaper and Stage 3—XP-endo finisher. The AED produced during instrumentation at each stage was collected in pre-weighed Eppendorf tubes. The weights of AED by the two methods were compared using t tests with significance level set at 5%. Group A produced significantly less total AED than Group B (p < 0.001), with no significant difference in debris extrusion between the two stages (p = 0.3014). Conversely, in Group B, a significant difference was noted between Stage 1 and Stages 2 and 3 (p < 0.01), with no significant difference between Stages 2 and 3 (p = 0.488). Both sequences resulted in measurable amounts of AED. Each phase, in either procedure, made its own contribution to the extrusion of debris.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy of the ProTaper rotary retreatment files and stainless hand instruments for gutta-percha(GP) removal from root canals.Methods Fifty-four extracted maxillary single-rooted incisor teeth with straight canals were randomly distributed into three groups(n=18).They were instrumented and obturated with laterally condensed gutta-percha technique using ZOE as the sealer.Removal of gutta-percha was performed as following: Group A-stainless hand file with chloroform;Group B-ProTaper rotary retreatment system without chloroform;Group C-ProTaper rotary retreatment system with chloroform.The time of the removal GP/sealer and the volume of chloroform used were recorded.The amount of debris remaining within the root canals was evaluated using bucca-lingually and mesio-distally radiographic technique.Results The mean time of retreatment in group B and C were significantly shorter than group A(P<0.05).The volume of chloroform in group C was significantly less than group A(P<0.01).There was no significant difference between the mean score of remaining debris in the three groups(P>0.05).However,use of chloroform or not did not influence the total working time.Conclusion ProTaper rotary retreatment files proved to be faster than hand instruments in removing GP/sealer and reduced usage of chloroform.Under this experimental conditions,the investigated instruments cannot remove the root filling material completely.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare the cleaning efficacy and instrumentation time between manual Hedstrom files (H-files) and rotary Mtwo files in primary molar root canals.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 90 primary root canals were selected using standardized radiographs. The canals were injected with India ink with 30 gauge insulin syringe and divided into three groups. Group I-30 root canals instrumented with H-files, group II-30 root canals instrumented with Mtwo files, and group III-control group in which no canal instrumentation was done. The teeth were cleared in various solutions and then observed under a stereomicroscope.RESULTS: No significant difference was seen in cleaning efficacy between H-files and Mtwo files in coronal, middle, and apical thirds of the root canal. The instrumentation time recorded for H-files (3.41 ± 0.38 minutes) was significantly less than that of Mtwo files (4.81 ± 0.52).CONCLUSION: Although there was no significant difference in cleaning capacity, further studies should be carried out using the single file systems. Comparison of Dentinal Defects Induced by Rotary, Reciprocating, and Hand Files in Oval Shaped Root Canal - An In-Vitro Study

Abstract:Aim: To evaluate and compare the formation of dentinal defects using hand Hedstrom files, XP-Shaper, TruNatomy, and Reciproc Blue file systems when used for oval shaped root canals. Materials and methods: One hundred and five extracted human mandibular premolars with single root and oval canals were selected for the study. Twenty-one teeth were unprepared (control), and the remaining teeth were divided into the prepared groups (n = 21), that is, Group H-Files, Group XP-Shaper, Group TruNatomy, and Group Reciproc Blue. All selected teeth were de-coronated perpendicular to the long axis of the tooth by using a diamond-coated disk with water cooling, leaving root segments approximately 16 mm in length. Each group was prepared according to the above file system. Then all roots were sectioned perpendicular to their long axes at 3, 6, and 9 mm from the apex using a diamond-coated disk under a continuous water stream. Each specimen was then checked for the presence of dentinal defects/microcracks. Result: The XP-Endo shaper group had the lowest number of defects (01/21 roots) 4.7%; TN (04/21) 19%, H-Files (04/21) 19%, and RC Blue (05/21) 23.8% had the highest incidence of defects. However, no significant difference was detected among these groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The motor-driven root canal instrumentation with rotary and reciprocating files and hand files may create microcracks in the radicular dentine, whereas the XP-Shaper file system produces minimal or less cracks compared to other tested rotary file systems and H-file instrumentation.
