Abstract:Background: The use of physical therapy modalities, especially high intensity laser therapy (HILT), for individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is still controversial. Objective: To compare the effects of HILT to other physical therapy modalities on symptoms and function in individuals with KOA. Methods: Six databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EBSCO, and PEDro) were searched in March 2022. Included studies were randomized controlled trials involving HILT conducted on individuals with KOA. The end-trial weighted mean difference (WMD) and standard deviations (SD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were analyzed. Results: Ten studies with 580 participants were obtained, of which nine were included in the final network meta-analysis. In terms of relieving pain, HILT demonstrated the highest probability of being among the most effective treatments, with surface under the cumulative ranking (SUCRA) = 100%, and compared to a control (placebo laser or exercise or a combination of both) on the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain it demonstrated significant benefits (WMD 1.66, 95% CI 1.48-1.84). For improving self-reported function, as measured by the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) total scores, the HILT SUCRA value led with 98.9%. When individuals with KOA were treated by HILT, the improvement in stiffness was statistically significant (WMD 0.78, 95% CI 0.52-1.04) but the amount of improvement was smaller than the minimal clinically important difference (MCID). Conclusion: The current evidence suggests that HILT may be more effective than other physical therapy modalities for improving pain and function in individuals with KOA. Comparison between Low-Level and High-Intensity Laser Therapy as an Adjunctive Treatment for Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized, Double-Blind Clinical Trial

Abstract:Background: Low-level (LLLT) and high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) can be beneficial additions to knee osteoarthritis (KOA) rehabilitation exercises; however, it is still being determined which electrophysical agent is more effective. Aim: To compare the effects of LLLT and HILT as adjuncts to rehabilitation exercises (LL + EX and HL + EX) on clinical outcomes in KOA. Methods: Thirty-four adults with mild-to-moderate KOA were randomly allocated to either LL + EX or HL + EX (n = 17 each). Both groups underwent their respective intervention weekly for twelve weeks: LL + EX (400 mW, 830 nm, 10 to 12 J/cm2, and 400 J per session) or HL + EX (5 W, 1064 nm, 19 to 150 J/cm2, and 3190 J per session). The laser probe was placed vertically in contact with the knee and moved in a slow-scan manner on the antero-medial/lateral sides of the knee joint. Participants' Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), active knee flexion, and Timed Up-and-Go test (TUG) were assessed. Results: Post intervention, both groups showed improvements in their KOOS, NPRS, active knee flexion, and TUG scores compared to baseline (p < 0.01). The mean difference of change in KOOS, NPRS, and active knee flexion scores for the HL + EX group surpassed the minimal clinically important difference threshold. In contrast, the LL + EX group only demonstrated clinical significance for the NPRS scores. Conclusions: Incorporating HILT as an adjunct to usual KOA rehabilitation led to significantly higher improvements in pain, physical function, and knee-related disability compared to LLLT applied in scanning mode.

Abstract:Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a set of symptoms that negatively affect the daily life activities of the individual, leading to functional disability and significant loss of labor, especially in young adults. PFPS is usually due to weakness of the vastus medialis obliquus (VMO) resulting in abnormal patellar tracking and pain. Our study aims to compare the efficacy of high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) on pain and lower extremity function in the treatment of PFPS with different electrophysical agents (EPAs). The study was designed as a single-blind randomized controlled trial. Forty-five people with PFPS (aged 25–45 years) were included in the study. The patients were randomly divided into three groups and a total of ten sessions of treatment were administered to all three groups for 2 weeks, 5 days a week. High-intensity laser (HILT) and exercise program were applied to group 1. Ultrasound (US), transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and exercise program were applied to group 2. In group 3, US, interferential current (IFC), and exercise program were applied. Both groups underwent three evaluations: pre-treatment, post-treatment, and 12 weeks after treatment. Outcome measures included the visual analog scale for pain severity (VAS), knee flexion range of motion (FROM), Q angle, pain threshold, muscle strength of quadriceps and hamstring, Kujala patellofemoral scoring, lower extremity functional scale (LEFS), and Timed Up and Go Test (TUG). The ANOVA was used for comparing the data of the groups, and two-way repeated measure ANOVA was used to compare at the pre-post and post-intervention 3rd month. The LSD and Bonferroni post hoc tests were also used to identify the between-group differences. Groups 2 and 3 were statistically effective in pain and functionality ( p < 0.05). Group 1 was found to be statistically more effective than other groups in reducing pain (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.000/0.000; p = 0.000), increasing knee flexion angle (95% CI, 127.524/135.809; p = 0.000), and increasing lower extremity function (95% CI, 75.970/79.362; p = 0.000). This study indicated that high-intensity laser therapy was found to be a more effective method in the treatment of patellofemoral pain syndrome after 3 months of follow-up compared to US-TENS combination and US-interferential current combination treatments. Also, HILT can be used as an effective method in combination with an appropriate exercise program including vastus medialis strengthening to reduce pain and increase functionality in the patients with PFPS.

Abstract:Abstract: Auditory cortex has been shown to be a site of widespread neuronal learning processes even in the context of simple auditory conditioning behavior. In view of their presumed role in determining behavioral and motivational relevance of incoming information we investigated whether the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems are involved in auditory cortex learning. Using a chronic brain microdialysis technique over 4 days, samples from auditory cortex were obtained before, during, and after daily footshock avoidance training simultaneously from trained gerbils and passive control animals or pseudotrained animals. Because of detection limits of dopamine and serotonin in auditory cortex, the response profiles of extracellular homovanillic acid as the metabolite of the dopaminergic system and of 5‐hydroxyindoleacetic acid as the metabolite of the serotonergic system were determined from consecutive dialysis samples each day. The response of the dopaminergic system appeared to reflect the initial formation of the behaviorally relevant association exclusively during the first training day, whereas the serotonergic response appeared to correlate with the stress level of animals.

ObjectivesTo investigate the effect of prolonged low-level laser therapy application combined with exercise on pain and disability in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.DesignA randomized controlled trial.SettingSpecial rehabilitation services.SubjectsForty-three participants with knee osteoarthritis.InterventionFollowing initial assessment, participants were randomly allocated to the Laser group (n = 22, 44 knees) and received low-level laser therapy while the Placebo group (n = 21, 42 knees) received placebo therapy three times a week for 3 weeks. Both groups then received low-level laser therapy combined with exercise three times a week for the following 8 weeks.Main outcome measuresThe primary outcome was change in knee pain and disability (Lequesne). Secondary outcomes included change in mobility (Timed Up and Go test), range of motion (goniometer), muscular strength (dynamometer), activity (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis questionnaire), and medication intake and relief.ResultsMean (SD) age of participants was 63.02 (9.9) years. Pain scores at baseline, 3 weeks, 11 weeks, and 6 months follow-up were 9.1 (1.3), 2.6 (2.3), 0.2 (0.9), and 0.2 (0.8) for the Laser group and 9.5 (8.0), 7.7 (5.3), 5.6 (2.4), and 7.4 (5.0) for the Placebo group, respectively. Disability scores at baseline, 3 weeks, 11 weeks, and 6 months follow-up were 14.9 (4.7), 7.6 (4.8), 3.9 (4.2), and 3.5 (4.1) for the Laser group and 17.8 (14.7), 15.2 (11.5), 11.6 (6.4), and 15.8 (11.9) for the Placebo Group, respectively.ConclusionIn participants with osteoarthritis of the knee, the isolated application of low-level laser therapy in the initial 3 weeks and combined with exercises in the final 8 weeks reduced pain, disability, and intake of medication over a 6-month period.

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to compare the therapeutic effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) with 808 and 660 nm wavelength on muscle strength and functional outcomes in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA). A total of 47 participants were randomly assigned to the 808 nm, 660 nm, and sham control groups. Two LLLT groups received continuous LLLT with a mean power of 300 mW in different wavelengths at the knee joint 15 min a session three days per week for eight weeks, while the control group received the sham LED treatment. The knee strength and functional performance involving 30-s sit-to-stand, 40 m fast-paced walk, stair climbing, and the TUG test were measured at the baseline and one week after the interventions were completed. The results showed that knee extensor strength was more improved in the 808 nm group as compared to the 660 nm group (p < 0.001, d = 0.57) and the sham control (p < 0.001, d = 0.40), while increased flexor strength was demonstrated in the 808 nm (p = 0.009, d = 0.67) and sham control groups (p < 0.001, d = 0.97). The number of 30-s sit-to-stand was increased only in the 660 nm group (p = 0.006, d = 0.49). All three groups exhibited improvements in the other three functional performance-based tests after the interventions with no statistically significant differences among the groups. In conclusion, both intervention groups improved muscle strength and functional performance as compared to the control group. The 808 nm wavelength group showed better results in knee extensor strength. Therefore, laser therapy is suggested to be integrated into rehabilitation programs to improve muscle strength and functional performance in the population with knee OA.

Abstract:Knee osteoarthritis (KO) is an important health condition, affecting one third of people aged 65 years or more. Pain is the main cause of disability. Pain management in KO includes pharmacological and non-pharmacological modalities. Patient education, lifestyle changes, physical exercise, and physical agents are prescribed as a first approach for pain control. Laser therapy is part of many therapeutical protocols, with two forms: low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and high-intensity laser therapy (HILT). This paper aimed to stress the advantages of HILT based on a greater wavelength, higher energy delivery, and deeper tissue penetration. Research on 23 published trials revealed that the analgesic effect is rapid, cumulative, and long lasting. Compared to sham, to LLLT, or to other combinations of therapeutical modalities, HILT provided significantly better results on pain reduction and functional improvement. Ultrasound examination showed a reduction in intra-articular inflammation.

Abstract:PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of n-HA/PA66 plate as a guided implant for the regeneration of the soft tissue defects in palatal region of goats. METHODS 12 goats were divided into experimental group and control group at random. 18.0 mm x 14.0 mm soft tissue defect and 15.0 mm x 13.0 mm hard tissue defect were formed artificially in hard palate. n-HA/PA66 plates were implanted to the defect in the experimental group. The tissue regeneration in the defects was observed and the structure of regenerating tissue was analyzed by histology. RESULTS The mucoperiosteal tissue in the experimental group regenerated along the n-HA/PA66 plates and the mucoperiosteal defects were closed in 6 weeks. The soft and hard tissues were not closed up in control group in 6 weeks. CONCLUSION n-HA/PA66 plates can guide the regeneration of mucoperiosteal tissue to close the palatal defects.

Abstract:My first attempts to drive a car were torture – for myself, my older brother (who unwisely had agreed to help teach me), and the family car. The car had a manual transmission and clutch, and we bucked and lurched around town. Each intersection, even each gear shift, posed a challenge that demanded my full attention – if only I could have given it. Instead, my mind was churning with embarrassment at my incompetence, driven to fever pitch by the chorus of horns that greeted me each time I stalled in traffic. I could barely follow the simplest directions from my brother, and his occasional attempts to calm things down with conversation fell on deaf ears. Despite himself, he groaned quietly as I ground the gears and lugged the engine. Like everyone, I eventually I got the hang of driving – the way we eventually get the hang of talking, eating without a bib, telling a joke without ruining it, finding our way in a strange city, or politely discouraging an over-eager salesman. What had changed about me as a driver? Not my rationality. It was not irrational of me to drive when I was so annoyingly clumsy at it – I had to learn, and there was no other way. My driving was incompetent, but not really dangerous. True, I was responding badly to the available reasons. So I was not a good detector of or responder to reasons. But not out of irrationality. High-intensity laser therapy on pain relief in symptomatic knee osteoarthritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Background: Osteoarthritis is one of the leading causes of global disability and pain. Objective: To investigate whether High-Intensity Laser therapy has superior pain-relieving effects in individuals with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Searches were conducted using CENTRAL, MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, Web of Science, PEDro, and related reference lists with language limed to English. Clinical trials investigating the effectiveness of High-Intensity Laser therapy compared to other laser therapies, conventional therapies or exercises on knee osteoarthritis pain were included. The screening and selection of studies, data extraction, and methodological quality assessment were performed by two independent researchers. Studies were quantitatively integrated using the Review Manager Software and qualitative analysis using the criteria recommended by the Cochrane Collaboration. Results: Nine studies meeting the eligibility criteria were identified, among which only one study was identified as excellent methodology quality, six was marked as good quality, and the remaining two studies were regarded as fair or poor quality. All studies reported positive effects of High-Intensity Laser therapy on knee osteoarthritis pain. Two studies (136 people) gave indication that there was moderate evidence that High-Intensity Laser therapy could be a promising new possibility in pain relief among patients with knee osteoarthritis compared with sham laser therapy in a short-term treatment (MD, -2.04, 95% CI, -2.12 to -1.96; Z= 51.01, P< 0.01). Four studies (160 people) showed that High-Intensity Laser therapy could be an effective modality on treating pain compared to conventional physiotherapies in decreasing visual analog scale score (MD, -0.98, 95% CI, -1.19 to -0.76; Z= 9.02, P< 0.01). Three studies (123 people) demonstrated that High-Intensity Laser therapy combined with exercises was more effective than placebo laser or lower-intensity laser combined with exercises in alleviating pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis (MD, -1.54, 95% CI, -1.84 to -1.24; Z= 10.06, P< 0.01). Conclusion: High-Intensity Laser therapy could be a promising and recommended modality in alleviating knee osteoarthritis pain, especially when it was implemented in combination with exercises.
Laser Acupuncture for Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trials

Abstract:Objectives. To provide updated evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effectiveness of laser acupuncture for patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Methods. A literature search in 9 databases was conducted from their inception through February 2019. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) written in English that compared active laser acupuncture with placebo in KOA patients were included. Two authors independently extracted data from these trials. Meta-analysis software was used to analyze the data. Included studies were assessed in terms of the follow-up period, the methodological quality, and appropriateness of their technical features. Results. Of 357 studies, seven RCTs (totaling 395 patients) met the inclusion criteria. The short-term outcomes showed that laser acupuncture offered significant pain relief over placebo when assessed by the 100mm visual analog scale (VAS) pain score (p=0.02), while there was no significant difference between laser acupuncture and placebo based on Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) pain score (p=0.25). For subgroup analysis, laser acupuncture had superiority over placebo in terms of both VAS and WOMAC pain scores in the appropriate technical features subgroup and the excellent methodological quality subgroup. But the effect of laser acupuncture on pain relief was not maintained in terms of either VAS (p=0.19) or WOMAC pain score (p=0.60). The pooled effect showed no significant difference between laser acupuncture and placebo at either time point according to WOMAC function scale, WOMAC stiffness scale, and quality of life outcome. Conclusions. Our findings indicate that laser acupuncture can effectively reduce knee pain for patients with KOA at short term when appropriate technical features are applied, but the effect likely fades away during the subsequent follow-up period.
Effectiveness of high-intensity laser therapy in the treatment of patients with frozen shoulder: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) in patients with frozen shoulder. PRISMA guidelines were adhered to, and a systematic search was conducted in the PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL, Science Direct, and PEDro databases (last update: September 4, 2023; search period: December 2022–September 2023). The inclusion criteria encompassed RCTs comparing HILT with other physical therapy interventions in frozen patients with frozen shoulders, with or without sham HILT, assessing pain intensity, shoulder ROM, and disability outcomes. The quality of the RCTs was assessed with the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool, and evidence was assessed using the GRADE approach. Five trials met the eligibility criteria and were included in the review and meta-analysis, which pooled results from the visual analog scale (VAS), goniometry, and the shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI). Mean differences (MDs) for pain intensity and disability show a pooled effect in favor of HILT both for VAS (MD = − 2.23 cm, 95% CI: − 3.25, − 1.22) and SPADI (MD = − 10.1% (95% CI = − 16.5, − 3.7), changes that are statistical ( p < 0.01) and clinical. The MD for flexion (MD = 9.0°; 95% CI: − 2.36°, 20.3°; p = 0.12), abduction (MD = 3.4°; 95% CI: − 6.9°, 13.7°; p = 0.51), and external rotation (MD = − 0.95°; 95% CI: − 5.36°, 3.5°; p = 0.67) does not show statistical and clinical differences between groups after treatment. PI and disability changes were graded as important due to their clinical and statistical results. HILT into a physical therapy plan reduce pain and disability, but it does not outperform conventional physical therapy in improving shoulder ROM. It is suggested that future RCTs compare the effects of HILT and LLLT to assess their possible differences in their analgesic effects.

Abstract:Hemiplegic shoulder pain (HSP) is a common complication that occurs after stroke and has been reported in up to 84% of hemiplegic patients. One of the recommended treatment options for shoulder pain is high-intensity laser therapy (HILT). This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of high-intensity laser therapy on pain, function and hand grip strength in patients with hemiplegic shoulder dysfunction. Forty-four hemiplegic patients were randomly divided into two groups: Group 1 (study group, n = 22) received 3 HILT sessions a week for three weeks in combination with three sessions of therapeutic exercise per week for three weeks, and Group 2 (control group, n = 22) received a conventional exercise program for HSP three times a week for three weeks. Shoulder pain was evaluated using the McGill pain questionnaire (MPQ), the functional outcome of the shoulder was evaluated with the University of California–Los Angeles functional scale (UCLA), and handgrip strength was evaluated with a hydraulic hand dynamometer. The increase in the UCLA scores and the decrease in the MPQ scores after treatment were significant in the study group (p < 0.001) as well as in the control group (p < 0.05) in comparison with the pretreatment between-group comparison. Additionally, the increase in hand grip strength was significant in both groups after treatment (p < 0.001). The study group showed significant improvement over the control group with respect to the UCLA score, handgrip strength, and MPQ score (p < 0.001). HILT combined with therapeutic exercise provides greater improvement than therapeutic exercise alone in terms of hemiplegic shoulder pain, dysfunction, and handgrip strength.

Abstract:Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of combined low-level laser therapy (LLL) and rehabilitation in patients following recent total knee replacement (TKR). Methods: A double-blind randomized controlled study was conducted at the Orthopedic Department of Mansoura University Hospital. Forty-four patients were chosen from a total of 58 patients who met the inclusion criteria and were assigned randomly into control and experimental groups of equal size. Ultimately, 40 patients completed the study (20 from each group). Both groups participated in an intensive functional rehabilitation program, and the experimental group also received LLL therapy around the knee at the incisional line, the medial and lateral intra-articular space, above and below the patella, and at the popliteal fossa at low fluence (6 J/cm2, 650 nm continuous wave) and 60 s per point with a total dose of 48 J per session over 12 treatment sessions for six weeks. Knee range of motion (ROM) was measured with a digital goniometer, and functional abilities were assessed with the Arabic version of the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) index. Results: There were significant differences in all variables pre- and post-treatment within each group. Before treatment, there was no significant difference in any of the measured variables between the groups (P>0.05). After treatment, there were significant differences in knee flexion ROM and WOMAC index (P<0.05) but no significant difference in knee extension ROM between the groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The addition of low-level laser therapy to a rehabilitation program post-TKR resulted in substantial enhancements in knee flexion range of motion and the WOMAC index.

Abstract:Lateral epicondylitis (LE) presents a substantial obstacle due to the pain and functional decline, frequently requiring non-surgical treatments. This study contrasts the efficacy of high-ıntensity laser therapy (HILT) and extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) in managing LE. A prospective, randomized comparative trial was conducted with 50 participants assigned to either HILT or ESWT groups. Both groups received standard physiotherapy (exercise program and LE bandages), and outcomes, including tenderness, Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand scale (Q-DASH), and grip strength, were assessed at baseline, 3rd weeks, and 12th weeks. The baseline features of the groups exhibited similarities ( p > 0.05). In intra-group comparisons, both HILT and ESWT groups exhibited significant enhancements in tenderness, VAS, Q-DASH, and grip strength ( p < 0.05). In inter-group comparisons, the HILT group exhibited superior outcomes in tenderness reduction, pain alleviation, and disability improvement compared to the ESWT group ( p < 0.05). Grip strength did not differ significantly across the groups ( p > 0.05). Both HILT and ESWT, when combined with standard physiotherapy, showed effectiveness in treating LE. However, HILT demonstrated greater efficacy in terms of tenderness reduction, pain relief, and disability improvement. This study suggests that non-invasive techniques, particularly HILT, can be preferable for managing LE.

Abstract:Objectives Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is not recommended in major knee osteoarthritis (KOA) treatment guidelines. We investigated whether a LLLT dose–response relationship exists in KOA. Design Systematic review and meta-analysis. Data sources Eligible articles were identified through PubMed, Embase, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Physiotherapy Evidence Database and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials on 18 February 2019, reference lists, a book, citations and experts in the field. Eligibility criteria for selecting studies We solely included randomised placebo-controlled trials involving participants with KOA according to the American College of Rheumatology and/or Kellgren/Lawrence criteria, in which LLLT was applied to participants’ knee(s). There were no language restrictions. Data extraction and synthesis The included trials were synthesised with random effects meta-analyses and subgrouped by dose using the World Association for Laser Therapy treatment recommendations. Cochrane’s risk-of-bias tool was used. Results 22 trials (n=1063) were meta-analysed. Risk of bias was insignificant. Overall, pain was significantly reduced by LLLT compared with placebo at the end of therapy (14.23 mm Visual Analogue Scale (VAS; 95% CI 7.31 to 21.14)) and during follow-ups 1–12 weeks later (15.92 mm VAS (95% CI 6.47 to 25.37)). The subgroup analysis revealed that pain was significantly reduced by the recommended LLLT doses compared with placebo at the end of therapy (18.71 mm (95% CI 9.42 to 27.99)) and during follow-ups 2–12 weeks after the end of therapy (23.23 mm VAS (95% CI 10.60 to 35.86)). The pain reduction from the recommended LLLT doses peaked during follow-ups 2–4 weeks after the end of therapy (31.87 mm VAS significantly beyond placebo (95% CI 18.18 to 45.56)). Disability was also statistically significantly reduced by LLLT. No adverse events were reported. Conclusion LLLT reduces pain and disability in KOA at 4–8 J with 785–860 nm wavelength and at 1–3 J with 904 nm wavelength per treatment spot. PROSPERO registration number CRD42016035587.

Abstract:Seven men were rotated at 5.4 revs/min in a room for 64 hr. Controlled tests before and during this interval demonstrated that disorientation and nystagmus attributable to Coriolis acceleration effects diminished markedly. A compensatory nystagmus, induced by head or whole-body movements, was recorded more than 1 hr after the rotation had ceased. Factors of possible significance in conditioning the compensatory nystagmus are: 1) otolith and proprioceptor sensory influx prior to and during discordant canal input: 2) a consistent sensory influx for each stimulus-producing movement: 3) intention in stimulus-producing movements: 4) visual inhibition. Contributions of compensatory and arousal factors to vestibular suppression are considered in relation to practical problems of transfer of habituation from one acceleration environment to another. Abstract:This study aims to evaluate and compare the short-term efficacies of high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) and ESWT(focused) on pain, sensitivity, handgrip strength and functions, in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis (LE). Fourty seven patients (age range, 18 to 65 years) with unilateral elbow pain were randomized into two groups. HILT group ( n = 24) and ESWT group( n = 23). The HILT and ESWT were administered three times a week for three weeks, and each treatment was combined with exercises. All paticipant in both of two groups were evaluated with ultrasonography for common extansor tendon thickness. A visual analog scale (VAS), quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (QDASH), hand grip strength test were used to evaluate the patients before, one and six weeks after treatment. There were significant improvement in VAS, hand grip strength, QuickDASH scores and CET thickness before and after treatment in both group( p < 0,05). But there were no significant differences between the groups pre-treatment, at the 1st week, and 6th week after treatment ( p > 0.05). Only hand grip strength was smilar to the pretreatment outcomes in HILT group. Both treatment methods were found to be effective and safe in the short-term treatment of LE. Consequently, these non-invasive, effective and safe techniques can be successfully used in the treatment of common pathology of the elbow.
