Abstract:Complex Organic Molecules (COMs) are considered crucial molecules, since they are connected with organic chemistry, at the basis of the terrestrial life. More pragmatically, they are molecules in principle difficult to synthetize in the harsh interstellar environments and, therefore, a crucial test for astrochemical models. Current models assume that several COMs are synthesised on the lukewarm grain surfaces ($\gtrsim$30-40 K), and released in the gas phase at dust temperatures $\gtrsim$100 K. However, recent detections of COMs in $\lesssim$20 K gas demonstrate that we still need important pieces to complete the puzzle of the COMs formation. We present here a complete census of the oxygen and nitrogen bearing COMs, previously detected in different ISM regions, towards the solar type protostar IRAS16293-2422. The census was obtained from the millimeter-submillimeter unbiased spectral survey TIMASSS. Six COMs, out of the 29 searched for, were detected: methyl cyanide, ketene, acetaldehyde, formamide, dimethyl ether, and methyl formate. The multifrequency analysis of the last five COMs provides clear evidence that they are present in the cold ($\lesssim$30 K) envelope of IRAS16293-2422, with abundances 0.03-2 $\times 10^{-10}$. Our data do not allow to support the hypothesis that the COMs abundance increases with increasing dust temperature in the cold envelope, as expected if COMs were predominately formed on the lukewarm grain surfaces. Finally, when considering also other ISM sources, we find a strong correlation over five orders of magnitude, between the methyl formate and dimethyl ether and methyl formate and formamide abundances, which may point to a link between these two couples of species, in cold and warm gas.

Abstract:An extensive, high-level theoretical study on tetra-atomic germanium carbide/silicide clusters is presented. Accurate harmonic and anharmonic vibrational frequencies and rotational constants are calculated at the CCSD(T)-F12a(b)/cc-pVT(Q)Z-F12 levels of theory. With growing capabilities to discern more of the chemical composition of the interstellar medium (ISM), an accurate database of reference material is required. The presence of carbon is ubiquitous in the ISM, and silicon is known to be present in interstellar dust grains, however germanium-containing molecules remain elusive. To begin understanding the presence and role of germanium in the ISM, we present this study of the vibrational and rotational spectroscopic properties of various germanium- containing molecules to aid in their potential identification in the ISM with modern observational tools such as the James Webb Space Telescope. Structures studied herein include rhomboidal (r-), diamond (d-), and trapezoidal (t-) tetra-atomic molecules of the form Ge(x)C(4−x) and Ge(x)Si(4−x) , where x=0-4. The most promising structure for detection is r-Ge(2)C(2) via the ν4 mode with a frequency of 802.7 cm−1 (12.5 μm) and an intensity of 307.2 km mol−1. Other molecules potentially detectable, i.e., through vibrational modes or rotational transitions, include r-Ge(3)C, r-GeSi(3), d-GeC(3), r-GeC(3), and t-Ge(2)C(2).

Abstract:Complex organic molecules (COMs) have been detected in a variety of interstellar sources. The abundances of these COMs in warming sources can be explained by syntheses linked to increasing temperatures and densities, allowing quasi-thermal chemical reactions to occur rapidly enough to produce observable amounts of COMs, both in the gas phase, and upon dust grain ice mantles. The COMs produced on grains then become gaseous as the temperature increases sufficiently to allow their thermal desorption. The recent observation of gaseous COMs in cold sources has not been fully explained by these gas-phase and dust grain production routes. Radiolysis chemistry is a possible non-thermal method of producing COMs in cold dark clouds. This new method greatly increases the modeled abundance of selected COMs upon the ice surface and within the ice mantle due to excitation and ionization events from cosmic ray bombardment. We examine the effect of radiolysis on three C$_{2}$H$_{4}$O$_{2}$ isomers -- methyl formate (HCOOCH$_3$), glycolaldehyde (HCOCH$_2$OH), and acetic acid (CH$_3$COOH) -- and a chemically similar molecule, dimethyl ether (CH$_3$OCH$_3$), in cold dark clouds. We then compare our modelled gaseous abundances with observed abundances in TMC-1, L1689B, and B1-b.

Abstract:A rich inventory of complex organic molecules (COMs) has been observed in high abundances in the gas phase toward Class 0 protostars. It has been suggested that these molecules are formed in ices and sublimate in the warm inner envelope close to the protostar. However, only the most abundant COM, methanol ( CH3OH ), had been firmly detected in ices before the era of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Now, it is possible to detect the interstellar ices of other COMs and constrain their ice column densities quantitatively. We aim to determine the column densities of several oxygen-bearing COMs (O-COMs) in both gas and ice for two low-mass protostellar sources, NGC 1333 IRAS 2A (hereafter IRAS 2A) and B1-c, as case studies in our JWST Observations of Young protoStars (JOYS+) program. By comparing the column density ratios with respect to CH3OH between both phases measured in the same sources, we can probe the evolution of COMs from ice to gas in the early stages of star formation. The column densities of COMs in gas and ice were derived by fitting the spectra observed by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and the JWST/Mid-InfraRed Instrument-Medium Resolution Spectroscopy (MIRI-MRS), respectively. The gas-phase emission lines were fit using local thermal equilibrium models, and the ice absorption bands were fit by matching the infrared spectra measured in laboratories. The column density ratios of four O-COMs ( CH3CHO C2H5OH CH3OCH3 and CH3OCHO ) with respect to CH3OH were compared between ice and gas in IRAS 2A and B1-c. We were able to fit the fingerprint range of COM ices between 6.8 and 8.8 $ m$ in the JWST/MIRI-MRS spectra of B1-c using similar components to the ones recently used for NGC 1333 IRAS 2A. We claim detection of CH4 OCN^- HCOO^- HCOOH CH3CHO C2H5OH CH3OCH3 CH3OCHO and CH3COCH3 in B1-c, and upper limits have been estimated for SO2 CH3COOH and CH3CN . The total abundance of O-COM ices is constrained to be 15 with respect to H2O ice, 80 of which is dominated by CH3OH . The comparison of O-COM ratios with respect to CH3OH between ice and gas shows two different cases. On the one hand, the column density ratios of CH3OCHO and CH3OCH3 match well between the two phases, which may be attributed to a direct inheritance from ice to gas or strong chemical links with CH3OH . On the other hand, the ice ratios of CH3CHO and C2H5OH with respect to CH3OH are higher than the gas ratios by 1--2 orders of magnitude. This difference can be explained by gas-phase reprocessing following sublimation, or different spatial distributions of COMs in the envelope, which is an observational effect resulting from ALMA and JWST tracing different components in a protostellar system. The firm detection of COM ices other than CH3OH is reported in another well-studied low-mass protostar, B1-c, following the recent detection in NGC 1333 IRAS 2A. The column density ratios of four O-COMs with respect to CH3OH show both similarities and differences between gas and ice. Although the straightforward explanations would be the direct inheritance from ice to gas and the gas-phase reprocessing, respectively, other possibilities such as different spatial distributions of molecules cannot be excluded.

Survey of Ices toward Massive Young Stellar Objects: I. OCS, CO, OCN$^-$, and CH$_3$OH

Abstract:An important tracer of the origin and evolution of cometary ices is the comparison with ices found in dense clouds and towards Young Stellar Objects (YSOs). We present a survey of ices in the 2-5 micron spectra of 23 massive YSOs, taken with the NASA InfraRed Telescope Facility SpeX spectrometer. The 4.90 micron absorption band of OCS ice is detected in 20 sight-lines, more than five times the previously known detections. The absorption profile shows little variation and is consistent with OCS being embedded in CH3OH-rich ices, or proton-irradiated H$_2$S or SO$_2$-containing ices. The OCS column densities correlate well with those of CH$_3$OH and OCN$^-$, but not with H$_2$O and apolar CO ice. This association of OCS with CH$_3$OH and OCN$^-$ firmly establishes their formation location deep inside dense clouds or protostellar envelopes. The median composition of this ice phase towards massive YSOs, as a percentage of H$_2$O, is CO:CH$_3$OH:OCN$^-$:OCS=24:20:1.53:0.15. CS, due to its low abundance, is likely not the main precursor to OCS. Sulfurization of CO is likely needed, although the source of this sulfur is not well constrained. Compared to massive YSOs, low mass YSOs and dense clouds have similar CO and CH$_3$OH ice abundances, but less OCN$^-$ and more apolar CO, while OCS awaits detection. Comets tend to be under-abundant in carbon-bearing species, but this does not appear to be the case for OCS, perhaps signalling OCS production in protoplanetary disks.

Towards the IR Detection of Carbonic Acid: Absorption and Emission Spectra

Abstract:With the recent radioastronomical detection of cis-trans-carbonic acid (H$_2$CO$_3$) in a molecular cloud toward the galactic center, the more stable but currently unobserved cis-cis conformer is shown here to have strong IR features. While the higher-energy cis-trans-carbonic acid was detected at millimeter and centimeter wavelengths, owing to its larger dipole moment, the vibrational structure of cis-cis-carbonic acid is more amenable to its observation at micron wavelengths. Even so, both conformers have relatively large IR intensities, and some of these fall in regions not dominated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Water features may inhibit observation near the 2.75 $\mu$m hydride stretches, but other vibrational fundamentals and even overtones in the 5.5 $\mu$m to 6.0 $\mu$m range may be discernible with JWST data. This work has employed high-level, accurately benchmarked quantum chemical anharmonic procedures to compute exceptionally accurate rotational spectroscopic data compared to experiment. Such performance implies that the IR absorption and even cascade emission spectral features computed in this work should be accurate and will provide the needed reference for observation of either carbonic acid conformer in various astronomical environments.

Abstract:Presented in this work is a thorough determination of the transition states between the different isomers of cyclic tetra-atomic silicon-carbide, germanium-carbide, and germanium-silicide clusters. Through use of density functional theory (B3LYP-D3BJ, M06-2X, ωB97X-D4, and B2GP-PLYP) in conjunction with the aug-cc-pVTZ basis set, transition state structures and their barrier heights are determined for the interconversions between the various isomers for the family of tetra-atomic SiC, GeC, and GeSi compounds. SiC dust grains are known to be prevalent in interstellar dust, and among this group, so far only diamond-shaped (d-)SiC(3) has been detected in the interstellar medium (ISM). Determining which other structures might be detectable not only depends on their intrinsic spectroscopic features, but whether or not they are likely to exist as isomers in interstellar environments. By examining the energy barrier heights for transitions between isomers, we determined that many of these structures are unlikely to exhibit interconversion in the ISM, outside of hotter circumstellar environments. Although Boltzmann population ratios at approximate circumstellar temperatures suggest the presence of higher energy minima, it is likely that once interconversion happens, as molecules travel away from a star and cool, they will get kinetically trapped in the potential energy well they inhabit, making how the ratios freeze out dependent on the time and pathways the molecules take to cool down. As such, many of these higher energy minima may still be good candidates for detection including (rhomboidal) r-SiC(3), r-GeC(3), r-GeSi(3), (trapezoidal) t-Si(2)C(2), r-Ge(2)C(2), and d-Si(3)C.

Abstract:In Reply: Thank you for your request to respond to the accompanying letter with respect to possible conflict between the use of titanium repairs had a need for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) follow-up of cholesteatoma cases. Although during the earlier phase of this study, MRI scans were unsubstantiated in this role, it has been the experience in this center that at 12 months approximately 25% of such ‘‘pearls’’ have been less than 2 mm in size, rendering their detection by scanning uncertain. In addition, early recurrent sacs may also go undetected. For these reasons we are uncertain as yet re the reliability of the scans and prefer staged surgery as a routine. From a wealth of past studies it is evident that residual disease rates are inevitable in closed surgery. If small pearls are common then the alternative to staged surgery is either delayed or repeated scanning; this would likely incur the loss of follow-up in a proportion of cases. Because of the above policy, we have only limited experience using MRI. For the purpose of this response, several available cases were reviewed, that have undergone scans. The films have shown very limited artefactual response, probably due to the 0.12 thickness and limited size of the sheeting used. We wish to note, that for intact canal wall surgery, the titanium sheet technique is designed to facilitate the re-inspection process, especially when examining the critical anterior attic. The thin sheeting provides optimal access for inspection; any fibrosis is easily cleared to check for disease residue/recurrence. The combination of precise and versatile wall repair, retaining ready reinspection is perhaps without equal in other techniques.

Abstract:Complex organic molecules (COMs) detected in the gas phase are thought to be mostly formed on icy grains, but no unambiguous detection of icy COMs larger than CH3OH has been reported so far. Exploring this matter in more detail has become possible with the JWST the critical 5-10 $\mu$m range. In the JOYS+ program, more than 30 protostars are being observed with the MIRI/MRS. This study explores the COMs ice signatures in the low and high-mass protostar, IRAS 2A and IRAS 23385, respectively. We fit continuum and silicate subtracted observational data with IR laboratory ice spectra. We use the ENIIGMA fitting tool to find the best fit between the lab data and the observations and to performs statistical analysis of the solutions. We report the best fits for the spectral ranges between 6.8 and 8.6 $\mu$m in IRAS 2A and IRAS 23385, originating from simple molecules, COMs, and negative ions. The strongest feature in this range (7.7 $\mu$m) is dominated by CH4 and has contributions of SO2 and OCN-. Our results indicate that the 7.2 and 7.4 $\mu$m bands are mostly dominated by HCOO-. We find statistically robust detections of COMs based on multiple bands, most notably CH3CHO, CH3CH2OH, and CH3OCHO. The likely detection of CH3COOH is also reported. The ice column density ratios between CH3CH2OH and CH3CHO of IRAS 2A and IRAS 23385, suggests that these COMs are formed on icy grains. Finally, the derived ice abundances for IRAS 2A correlate well with those in comet 67P/GC within a factor of 5. Based on the MIRI/MRS data, we conclude that COMs are present in interstellar ices, thus providing additional proof for a solid-state origin of these species in star-forming regions. The good correlation between the ice abundances in comet 67P and IRAS 2A is in line with the idea that cometary COMs can be inherited from the early protostellar phases.

Carbonic Acid Revisited: Vibrational Spectra, Energetics and the Possibility of Detecting an Elusive Molecule

Abstract:We calculate harmonic frequencies of the three most abundant carbonic acid conformers. For this, different model chemistries are investigated with respect to their benefits and shortcomings. Based on these results we use perturbation theory to calculate anharmonic corrections at the {\omega}B97XD/aug-cc-pVXZ, X=D,T,Q, level of theory and compare them with recent experimental data and theoretical predictions. A discrete variable representation method is used to predict the large anharmonic contributions to the frequencies of the stretching vibrations in the hydrogen bonds in the carbonic acid dimer. Moreover, we re-investigate the energetics of the formation of the carbonic acid dimer from its constituents water and carbon dioxide using a high-level extrapolation method. We find that the {\omega}B97XD functional performs well in estimating the fundamental frequencies of the carbonic acid conformers. Concerning the reaction energetics, the accuracy of {\omega}B97XD is even comparable to the high-level extrapolation method. We discuss possibilities to detect carbonic acid in various natural environments such as Earth's and Martian atmospheres.

Abstract:Complex organic molecules (COMs) are ubiquitously detected in the gas phase and thought to be mostly formed on icy grains. Nevertheless, there have not been any unambiguous detections of COMs larger than CH$_3$OH in ices reported thus far. Exploring this matter in greater detail has now become possible with the unprecedented possibilities offered by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) within the infrared (IR) spectral range with its very high sensitivity and spectral resolution in the critical 5$-$10 mu m range, the fingerprint region of oxygen-bearing COMs. In the JWST Observations of Young protoStars (JOYS+) program, more than 30 protostars are undergoing observation with the Medium Resolution Spectrograph (MRS) of the Mid-IR Instrument (MIRI). The goal of this study is to comprehensively explore the COMs ice signatures in one low- and one high-mass protostar: NGC 1333 IRAS 2A and IRAS 23385+6053, respectively. We performed global continuum and silicate subtractions of the MIRI-MRS spectra, followed by a local continuum subtraction in optical depth scale in the range around 6.8 and 8.6 mu m, the ice COM fingerprint region. We explored different choices for the local continuum and silicate subtraction. Next, we fit the observational data with a large sample of available IR laboratory ice spectra. We used the ENIIGMA fitting tool, a genetic algorithm-based code that not only finds the best fit between the lab data and the observations, but also performs a statistical analysis of the solutions, such as deriving the confidence intervals and quantifying fit degeneracy. We report the best fits for the spectral ranges between 6.8 and 8.6 mu m in NGC 1333 IRAS 2A and IRAS 23385+6053, originating from simple molecules and COMs, as well as negative ions. Overall, we find that ten chemical species are needed to reproduce the astronomical data. The strongest feature in this range (7.7 mu m) is dominated by CH$_4$, with contributions from SO$_2$ and OCN$^-$. Our results indicate that the 7.2 and 7.4 mu m bands are mostly dominated by HCOO$^-$. We also find statistically robust detections of COMs based on multiple bands, most notably, CH$_3$CHO, CH$_3$CH$_2$OH, and CH$_3$OCHO. We also report a likely detection of CH$_3$COOH. Oxygen Chemistry in the Circumstellar Envelope of the Carbon-Rich Star IRC+10216

Abstract:In this paper we study the oxygen chemistry in the C-rich circumstellar shells of IRC+10216. The recent discoveries of oxygen bearing species (water, hydroxyl radical and formaldehyde) toward this source challenge our current understanding of the chemistry in C-rich circumstellar envelopes. The presence of icy comets surrounding the star or catalysis on iron grain surfaces have been invoked to explain the presence of such unexpected species. This detailed study aims at evaluating the chances of producing O-bearing species in the C-rich circumstellar envelope only by gas phase chemical reactions. For the inner hot envelope, it is shown that although most of the oxygen is locked in CO near the photosphere (as expected for a C/O ratio greater than 1), some stellar radii far away species such as H2O and CO2 have large abundances under the assumption of thermochemical equilibrium. It is also shown how non-LTE chemistry makes very difficult the CO-->H2O,CO2 transformation predicted in LTE. Concerning the chemistry in the outer and colder envelope, we show that formaldehyde can be formed through gas phase reactions. However, in order to form water vapor it is necessary to include a radiative association between atomic oxygen and molecular hydrogen with a quite high rate constant. The chemical models explain the presence of HCO+ and predict the existence of SO and H2CS (which has been detected in a 3 mm line survey to be published). We have modeled the line profiles of H2CO, H2O, HCO+, SO and H2CS using a non-local radiative transfer model and the abundance profiles predicted by our chemical model. The results have been compared to the observations and discussed.

Abstract:Using the recently-commissioned Submillimeter Array (SMA), we have detected several complex organic molecules, including (CH3)2O, C2H5OH, C2H5CN, and tentatively CH2CDCN, toward the protostellar hot cores of IRAS 16293-2422 at arcsecond-resolution (~< 400 AU in radius). Vibrationally excited transitions of SO, SO2 and HCN with energy levels up to 1800 K were also observed. In addition to the other organic molecules (HC3N, CH2CO, CH3OH, CH2CHCN and HCOOCH3) previously reported by us (Kuan et al. 2004), these results clearly indicate the existence of a rich organic chemistry in low-mass `hot corinos'. From the observation of optically thin HC15N emission, we conclude I16293A is a rotating circumstellar disk lying along the north-south direction ~10 deg to the east and with an inclination ~30 deg to the sky. We suggest that the observed vibrational SO and SO2 emission may originate from shock waves near or in the circumstellar disks. Between the two cores, we find a strong anticorrelation in emission from C2H5OH and C2H5CN. The relative contribution of gas phase and grain-surface chemistries to the production of the observed complex molecules is discussed. We point out the shortcomings underlying recent claims that all the O-bearing organics are formed on grains. The presence of so many well-known interstellar molecules in solar-type hot corinos strengthens the link between molecular cloud chemistry, the starting materials of protoplanetary disks such as the protosolar nebula, and the composition of comets. Establishing the fine details of this connection is crucial in answering fundamental questions concerning the importance of galactic astrochemistry for astrobiology.

Abstract:The puzzling complexity of terrestrial biomolecules is driving the search for complex organic molecules in the Interstellar Medium (ISM) and serves as a motivation for many in situ studies of reservoirs of extraterrestrial organics from meteorites and interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) to comets and asteroids. Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (67P) -- the best-studied comet to date -- has been visited and accompanied for two years by the European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft. Around 67P's perihelion and under dusty conditions, the high-resolution mass spectrometer on board provided a spectacular glimpse into this comet's chemical complexity. For this work, we analyzed in unprecedented detail the O-bearing organic volatiles. In a comparison of 67P's inventory to molecules detected in the ISM, in other comets, and in Soluble Organic Matter (SOM) extracted from the Murchison meteorite, we also highlight the (pre)biotic relevance of different chemical groups of species. We report first evidence for abundant extraterrestrial O-bearing heterocycles (with abundances relative to methanol often on the order of 10% with a relative error margin of 30-50%) and various representatives of other molecule classes such as carboxylic acids and esters, aldehydes, ketones, and alcohols. Like with the pure hydrocarbons, some hydrogenated forms seem to be dominant over their dehydrogenated counterparts. An interesting example is tetrahydrofuran (THF) as it might be a more promising candidate for searches in the ISM than the long-sought furan itself. Our findings not only support and guide future efforts to investigate the origins of chemical complexity in space, but also they strongly encourage studies of, e.g., the ratios of unbranched vs. branched and hydrogenated vs. dehydrogenated species in astrophysical ice analogs in the laboratory as well as by modeling.

Abstract:Against the general belief that carbonic acid is too unstable for synthesis, it was possible to synthesize the solid as well as gas‐phase carbonic acid. It was suggested that solid carbonic acid might exist in Earth's upper troposphere and in the harsh environments of other solar bodies, where it undergoes a cycle of synthesis, decomposition, and dimerization. To provide spectroscopic data for probing the existence of extraterrestrial carbonic acid, matrix‐isolation infrared (MI‐IR) spectroscopy has shown to be essential. However, early assignments within the harmonic approximation using scaling factors impeded a full interpretation of the rather complex MI‐IR spectrum of H2CO3. Recently, carbonic acid was detected in the Galactic center molecular cloud and triggered new interest in the anharmonic spectrum. In this regard, we substantially reassign our Argon MI‐IR spectra relying on accurate anharmonic calculations. We calculate a four‐mode potential energy surface (PES) at the explicitly correlated coupled‐cluster theory using up to triple‐zeta basis sets, i.e., CCSD(T)‐F12/cc‐pVTZ‐F12. On this PES, we perform vibrational self‐consistent field and configuration interaction (VSCF/VCI) calculations to obtain accurate vibrational transition frequencies and resonance analysis of the fundamentals, first overtones, and combination bands.

Abstract:With the recent radioastronomical detection of cis-trans-carbonic acid (H 2 CO 3 ) in a molecular cloud toward the Galactic center, the more stable but currently unobserved cis-cis conformer is shown here to have strong IR features. While the higher-energy cis-trans-carbonic acid was detected at millimeter and centimeter wavelengths, owing to its larger dipole moment, the vibrational structure of cis-cis-carbonic acid is more amenable to its observation at micron wavelengths. Even so, both conformers have relatively large IR intensities, and some of these fall in regions not dominated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Water features may inhibit observation near the 2.75 μm hydride stretches, but other vibrational fundamentals and even overtones in the 5.5–6.0 μm range may be discernible with JWST data. This work has employed high-level, accurately benchmarked quantum chemical anharmonic procedures to compute exceptionally accurate rotational spectroscopic data compared to experiment. Such performance implies that the IR absorption and even cascade emission spectral features computed in this work should be accurate and will provide the needed reference for observation of either carbonic acid conformer in various astronomical environments.

Abstract:In recent years, a significant number of oxygen-bearing complex organic molecules (COMs) have been detected in the gas phase of cold dark clouds such as TMC-1. The formation of these COMs cannot be explained by diffusive mechanisms on grains and gas phase reactions. This study investigates the formation of oxygen-bearing COMs in cold dark clouds using multiphase gas-grain models that incorporate cosmic ray-induced non-diffusive radiation chemistry and non-thermal sputtering desorption mechanisms. Additionally, we present the effects of varying elemental C/O ratio and different sputtering rates. We utilized an accelerated Gillespie algorithm, based on the regular Gillespie algorithm. The results of our models for dimethyl ether (CH3OCH3), methyl formate (HCOOCH3), acetaldehyde (CH3CHO), ethanol (C2H5OH), and methanol (CH3OH) show reasonable agreement with observations toward TMC-1, within a factor of 3. Out of the 94 species compared with observations, 63 show agreement within 1 order of magnitude, accounting for 67.02%. Overall inclusion of non-thermal mechanisms in multi-phase models shows notable improvement of modeling on oxygen-bearing COMs in the interstellar medium.
