Abstract:This study investigated the dietary effects of lipid and protein levels on growth performance, feed utilization, body composition, lipid metabolism, and antioxidant capacity of triploid rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. A 3 × 2 two-factor design was conducted with three crude lipid levels of 4%, 9%, and 14% (L4, L9, and L14) and two crude protein levels of 44%, 49% (P44, P49). Therefore, a total of six diets were prepared as P44/L4, P44/L9, P44/L14, P49/L4, P49/L9, and P49/L14. Triploid rainbow trout (initial body weight 65.0 ± 0.1 g) were fed one of the six diets for 80 days. The results showed that weight gain (WG), protein retention (PR), and protein efficiency rate (PER) significantly increased with increasing the dietary lipid level at the same crude protein level, while feed conversion ratio (FCR) and hepatosomatic index significantly decreased ( P < 0.05 ). At the same lipid level, there was no difference in WG, FCR, PR, PER between 44% and 49% crude protein group ( P > 0.05 ). The P49/L14 group had the highest WG (374.6%) and lowest FCR (1.25), while P44/L14 group had the highest PER (1.80) and PR (25.06%) with similar WG and FCR to P49/L14 group. The crude lipid contents in whole fish were significantly higher in the L14 group than those in the L4 and L9 groups ( P < 0.05 ). Muscle n-3 PUFAs, n-6 PUFAs, and PUFAs levels were positively correlated with dietary lipid level, while n-6 PUFAs was negatively correlated with dietary protein level. Dietary protein, dietary lipid, and their interaction significantly affected hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA) content, aspartate aminotransferase, lipase (LPS), and fatty acid synthase (FAS) activities ( P < 0.05 ). In both P44 and P49 groups, LPS and FAS activities increased with increasing the dietary lipid level. MDA content significantly decreased in the P44 group and increased in the P49 group with increasing the dietary lipid level ( P < 0.05 ). As dietary protein level increased, serum total cholesterol level increased, while hepatic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase activity decreased. With increasing the dietary lipid level, total superoxide dismutase, catalase, total nitric oxide synthase, and fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase activities showed an increasing trend, while the opposite was true for alanine aminotransferase activity. In conclusion, based on growth performance and feed utilization, dietary protein level of 44% and dietary lipid level of 14% (measured value, 43.71% and 13.62%) were suggested for young triploid rainbow trout.

Abstract:Six isoenergetic (20.9 kJ g(-1)) diets were fed to triplicate groups of 20 black sea bream, Acanthopagrus schlegelii (initial weight 11.20 +/- 0.20 g) to apparent satiation for eight weeks. The dietary protein (P) levels (28.85, 31.21, 34.15, 37.46, 40.22 and 42.87%) were combined with lipid (L) levels (26.32, 24.54, 22.73, 20.94, 19.13 and 17.35%), respectively, with the protein: energy (P/E) ratios ranging from 13.71 to 20.60 mg kJ(-1). The weight gain and specific growth rate of the experimental fish increased with increasing dietary P/E ratios up to fish fed the P37/L21 diet (P/E ratio 17.88 mg kJ(-1)), beyond which growth performance decreased (P < .05). Feed intake and feeding rate showed trends similar to the growth performance. Fish fed the P34/L23 diet had the highest values of viscerasomatic index and intraperitoneal fat ratio. The protein efficiency ratio, protein productive value and lipid contents of whole-body and muscle decreased with increasing dietary P/E ratios, whereas whole-body protein content had an inverse trend (P < .05). The fish fed P29/L26 and P31/L32 diets showed the highest contents of serum triglyceride and malondialdehyde, whereas fish fed P40/L19 and P43/L17 diets had the highest activities of liver alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase (P < .05). Effective protein sparing effect of lipid occurred in the low protein diets. Based on quadratic regression analysis, the optimal protein requirement of black sea bream is estimated to be 37.10% (dietary energy level 20.9 kJ g(-1)) which is lower than previously reported.
Effects of Supplementation Coated Lysine and Methionine in Mixture Protein Diets on Growth Performance, Digestibility and Serum Biochemical Indices of Juvenile Black Sea Bream, Acanthopagrus Schlegelii

Abstract:Four experimental diets were formulated to evaluate the effect of coated lysine (Lys) and methionine (Met) supplemented in mixture protein diets of juvenile black sea bream, Acanthopagrus schlegelii. Fish meal (FM) was the main protein source in control diet, and 21.2% FM was replaced by the mixture of soybean protein concentrate, meat and bone meal, and monosodium glutamate protein in replacement diets with coating Lys and Met were suppled at none (0%, 0%), low (1.7%, 1.1%) and high (5.0%, 3.4%) level (designated as NLM, LLM and HLM diet, respectively). Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of 20 fish (initial mean weight, 4.13 +/- 0.16 g) twice a day to apparent satiation for 8 weeks, in a flow-through system. Results showed that amino acid supplementation significantly improved weight gain and specific growth rate in these mixture protein diets groups, and the fish fed with HLM diet showed comparable growth with the control group. Feed efficiency ratio (FER), protein efficiency ratio (PER), and crude protein and Met content in dorsal muscle were significantly affected by diet amino acid level. The highest apparent digestibility coefficients appeared in HLM group but the values showed insignificant difference with the control group. Serum activities of aspertate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase in control group were lower than those of in other treatments. Fish fed with NLM and LLM diets had higher triglycerides concentration than those of fed the HLM and FM diets. Furthermore, the feed cost of the various feed treatments were evaluated, and the three test diets were all lower than the control diet. The present study indicated that 21.2% FM in black sea bream diet can be successfully replaced by mixture protein with sufficient coated Lys (5.0%) and Met (3.4%) supplemented.

Abstract:A 120-day feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of different stocking densities on growth, the non-specific immunities, antioxidant status and digestive enzyme activities of Oreochromis niloticus fingerlings under a zero-water exchange biofloc system. Tilapias (0.51 ± 0.05 g) were randomly distributed in twelve tanks, each with 300 L water. The experimental design was completely randomized using three replications with four treatments 166 orgs m−3 (LD, low density), 333 orgs m−3 (MD, middle density) and 600 orgs m−3 (HD, high density) with glucose added as biofloc groups, and a clear water group without glucose added as a control 333 orgs m−3. The fish cultured in LD and MD group showed higher final body weight. For the digestive enzymes, the lipase, trypsin, and amylase activities were all depressed in HD group and control group. Regarding the immune and antioxidant abilities, significantly lower values (P < 0.05) of the lysozyme, complement 3, and glutathione were observed for the fish that reared in the control group and HD group. The stress indicator, the cortisol, 5-hydroxytryptamine, and glucose concentrations were also depressed in HD group and control group, meanwhile the alanine aminotransferase, aspartate transaminase and alkaline phosphatase were all higher in HD group and control group. The significant higher survival was observed in the LD and MD group after Vibrio harveyi challenge test. The results of the experiment indicated that the biofloc in situ had the effects of anti-crowding stress.

Abstract:Rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) is becoming popular with the increased demand for fish protein. However, the limited resources and expense of fish meal and oil have become restrictive factors for the development of the rainbow trout related industry. To solve this problem, plant-derived proteins and vegetable oils have been developed as alternative resources. The present study focuses on evaluating the effects of two experimental diets, FMR (fish meal replaced with plant-derived protein) and FOR (fish oil replaced with rapeseed oil), through the alteration of the gut microbiota in triploid rainbow trout. Abstract:Omega‐3 long‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (n‐3 LC‐PUFA) increases in aquatic products contributes to improving meat quality, thereby positively impacting human health. Different from marine fish which primarily obtain n‐3 LC‐PUFAs directly from zooplankton and algae, freshwater fish mainly utilize dietary linolenic acid (ALA) as a substrate to synthesize n‐3 LC‐PUFAs. Our team has successfully created a transgenic rapeseed oil (TRO) with high ALA content. Therefore, we here assessed the impacts of four different diets (LR, low‐fat rapeseed oil (RO) diet; HR, high‐fat RO diet; LTR, low‐fat TRO diet; HTR, high‐fat TRO diet) on growth performance, lipid accumulation, fatty acid composition, antioxidant capacity, immunity and serum biochemical indexes of juvenile largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), an economically valuable freshwater fish. The results showed no significant difference in survival rate among the four dietary groups. No significant differences in body weight gain and final weight were found between the LR and LTR groups, as well as between HR and HTR groups. No matter if it was a high‐fat or low‐fat diet, compared with the RO diet, TRO diets significantly increased the content of n‐3 LC‐PUFA, improved meat quality, effectively alleviated lipid accumulation in livers and muscles of juvenile largemouth bass. In addition, using high‐fat diets, TRO diet improved the antioxidant capacity and immune ability of juvenile largemouth bass, thereby promoting the overall health of fish. This study provides novel insights for fish feed formulation optimization from the perspective of genetically modified feed ingredients, and high‐quality aquatic products for human consumption.

Effects of Partial Substitution of Conventional Protein Sources with Duckweed (Lemna minor) Meal in the Feeding of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) on Growth Performances and the Quality Product

Abstract:Duckweed (Lemna minor) meal was included in the formulation of three experimental feeds (L1, L2, L3) for rainbow trout at 10%, 20%, 28% of the protein source, respectively. Increasing the duckweed inclusion, the other protein sources were adjusted to get isonitrogenous (41%) and isolipidic (20%) diets, as the control diet (LC). 540 fish (mean body weight 124.5 ± 0.7 g) were randomly allocated in 12 tanks divided equally among the four different diets. After 90 days, fish were weighed and the most important productive performances, fillet quality and fatty acid profile were determined. The final body weight in L1 (340.53 g) and L2 (339.42 g) was not different from LC (348.80 g); L3 trout significantly (p < 0.05) exhibited the lowest one (302.16 g). Similar trends were found in final mean length, weight gain, specific growth rate, food conversion rate. Somatic indices were affected by duckweed inclusion. Diets had not significant effects on the proximate composition and fatty acids of the fillet in L1, L2, L3 respect to LC. Based on this study, duckweed meal derived from Lemna minor can be included in the feed for the rainbow trout without negative effects on the growth performances at 20% of the protein substitution.

Abstract:The present study was aimed to explore the influence of graded replacing fish meal (0.00%, 14.29%, 28.57%, 42.86%, and 57.14%) with spray dried chicken plasma (SDCP) on growth performance, feed utilization, and antioxidant capacity of largemouth bass. Triplicate groups of fish (initial weight: 10.05 ± 0.05 g) were fed experimental diets twice daily for 8 weeks. Results indicated that specific growth rate and feed intake of fish were not remarkably influenced with the replacement of fish meal. Meanwhile, no significant difference was observed in feed intake and feed efficiency ratio among treatments. The inclusion of SDCP significantly elevated crude protein content of muscle, liver and whole fish body, which resulted in the increased protein retention rate. Meanwhile, the lipid retention rate was also significantly increased with the replacement of fish meal. The replacement of 57.14% fish meal with SDCP significantly reduced the content of lipid peroxidation product malondialdehyde. Meanwhile, the total antioxidant capacity and catalase activity was significantly higher in fish fed the diet with replacement of 57.14% fish meal compared to the control group. In above, 57.14% fish meal could be substituted by SDCP in diets for largemouth bass under this experimental condition.

Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the effects of phenylalanine on the growth, digestive and absorptive capacity, antioxidant capacity, and intestinal health of triploid rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fed a low fish meal diet (15%). Five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets with different dietary phenylalanine levels (1.82%, 2.03%, 2.29%, 2.64%, 3.01%) were fed to triplicate groups of 20 fish (initial mean body weight of 38.65 ± 0.62 g). Weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) were significantly lower (P<0.05) in the 3.01% group. The trypsin activity in the 2.03% group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). Serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and liver peroxidase (CAT) activity both reached their maximum in the 2.03% group. Interleukin factors IL-1β and IL-6 both reached a minimum value in the 2.03% group and were significantly lower than the control group, while IL-10 reached a maximum value in the 2.03% group (P<0.05). The tight junction protein-related genes occludin, claudin-1, and ZO-1 all reached a maximum in the 2.03% treatment group and were significantly higher than the control group (P<0.05). There were also significant differences in intestinal villi length and muscle layer thickness among the groups (P<0.05). In conclusion, dietary phenylalanine effectively improved the growth, digestion and absorption capacity, antioxidant capacity, and intestinal health of O. mykiss. Using a quadratic curve model analysis based on WGR, dietary phenylalanine requirement of triploid O. mykiss fed a low fish meal diet (15%) was 2.13%.

Metabolomic and transcriptomic profiling reveals the effect of dietary protein and lipid levels on growth performance in loach (Paramisgurnus dabryanus)

Abstract:The subject of this study was to explore the optimum requirements of loach ( Paramisgurnus dabryanus ) regarding dietary proteins and lipids and discuss the underlying mechanism. We designed nine diets to determine the effects of different levels of dietary crude protein (CP: 30%, 35%, and 40%) and ether extract (EE: 6%, 10%, and 14%) on the growth performance and metabolism of P. dabryanus . In total, 2160 healthy P. dabryanus (5.19 ± 0.01 g) were divided into nine groups with four replications at 60 fish per barrel stocking density. The trial lasted for eight weeks. Serum and liver samples were gathered for metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses. The results showed that the specific growth rate of P. dabryanus in the CP40EE10 group was the fastest and notably higher than that in other groups ( P< 0.05). Analysis of the metabolome results found that the mTOR signaling pathway, glycerophospholipid metabolism, D-arginine and D-ornithine metabolism were significantly enriched pathways in the CP40EE10 group compared with the other groups ( P< 0.05). Moreover, the transcriptomic analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) showed that the expression of ARG (arginase) involved in protein synthesis was significantly upregulated in the CP40EE10 group compared to the slowest growing group ( P < 0.05). Additionally, the expression of SPLA2 (secretory phospholipase A2) involved in lipid metabolism and FBP (fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase) involved in glucose metabolism were all significantly downregulated in the CP30EE6 group compared with the CP40EE10 group ( P < 0.05). Furthermore, the analysis of differentially expressed metabolites (DEMs) and DEGs co-enriched in the KEGG pathway revealed that the significantly enriched pathways were arginine and proline metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis in CP40EE10 compared with other groups ( P < 0.05). We conclude that including 40% CP and 10% EE in the P. dabryanus diet could result in a better growth rate. We hypothesized from metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses that the CP40EE10 diet might promote the growth of P. dabryanus by promoting protein synthesis, lipid metabolism, and energy production.

Abstract:The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of dietary protein levels on flesh quality, oxidative stress, and autophagy status in the muscles of triploid crucian carp (Carassius carassius triploid), and the related molecular mechanisms. Six experimental diets with different protein levels (26%, 29%, 32%, 35%, 38%, 41%) were formulated. A total of 540 fish with an initial weight of 11.79 ± 0.09 g were randomly assigned to 18 cages and six treatments with three replicates of 30 fish each for 8 weeks feeding. It could be found that the whole-body ash content significantly increased in high protein level groups (p < 0.05). The 29% dietary protein level group exhibited the highest muscle moisture, although there was an inconspicuous decrease in the chewiness of the muscles when compared with the other groups. The dietary protein level influenced the content of free amino acids and nucleotides, especially the content of flavor amino acids, which exhibited an increasing tendency along with the increasing protein level, such as alanine and glutamic acid, while the flavor nucleotides showed different fluctuation trends. Moreover, the genes related to muscle development were shown to be influenced by the dietary protein level, especially the expression of MRF4, which was up-regulated with the increasing dietary protein levels. The 29% dietary protein level promoted the majority of analyzed muscle genes expression to the highest level when compared to other dietary levels, except the Myostain, whose expression reached its highest at 38% dietary protein levels. Furthermore, the effect of dietary protein levels on antioxidant signaling pathway genes were also examined. High protein levels would boost the expression of GSTα; GPX1 and GPX4α mRNA expression showed the highest level at the 32% dietary protein group. The increasing dietary protein level decreased both mRNA and protein expressions of Nrf2 by up-regulating Keap1. Autophagy-related gene expression levels reached the peak at 32% dietary protein level, as evidenced by a similar change in protein expression of FoxO1. In summary, muscle nutritional composition, antioxidative pathways, and autophagy levels were affected by the dietary protein levels. A total of 29–32% dietary protein level would be the appropriate level range to improve muscle quality and promote the antioxidant and autophagy capacity of triploid crucian carp muscles.

Abstract:Lipids in fish diets provide energy and play important roles in immunity and metabolism. Atlantic salmon, a species that migrates from freshwater to seawater, requires high energy, especially during smoltification. Juvenile teleosts have low lipid requirements, and a high dietary lipid content is known to have negative effects on their growth and digestion. Therefore, this study evaluated the effect of two commercial rainbow trout feeds (low-lipid, 13.41% and 14.6%) on the growth and immune responses of early parr-stage Atlantic salmon compared to commercial salmon feed (high-lipid, 29.52%). Atlantic salmon parr (weight: 14.56 ± 2.1 g; length: 11.23 ± 0.44 cm) were randomly divided into three groups and fed either one of two commercial rainbow trout feeds (RTF1 and RTF2) or the commercial salmon feed (ASF) for 12 weeks. At the end of the feeding trial, growth, haematology, histology and gene expression analyses were performed. There were no significant differences in weight gain rates or feed efficiency between the groups (p > 0.05). Superoxidate dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, lysozyme and immunoglobulin M activities were not different among the experimental groups (p > 0.05). A histological examination of the liver and intestinal tissues showed no pathological symptoms of inflammatory response or lipid accumulation in any of the groups. In an intestinal transcriptome analysis using RNA-seq, the expression levels of several genes linked to lipids, immune-related proteins, cytokines and chemokines did not differ significantly between the groups (p > 0.05). Commercial rainbow trout feed with low lipid content has no clear negative impact on the development of Atlantic salmon during the early parr stage (14.5 to 39.6 g). This study provides basic information for the development of economical feed for early parr-stage Atlantic salmon.
Effects of High-Lipid Dietary Protein Ratio on Growth, Antioxidant Parameters, Histological Structure, and Expression of Antioxidant- and Immune-Related Genes of Hybrid Grouper

Abstract:The hybrid grouper (♀ Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × ♂ E. lanceolatus) is a new species of grouper crossed from giant grouper (E. lanceolatus) as the male parent and brown-marbled grouper (E. fuscoguttatus) as the female parent. We hypothesized that optimal levels of dietary protein may benefit liver function. High-lipid diets are energetic feeds that conserve protein and reduce costs, and are a hot topic in aquaculture today. Therefore, the objective of the research is to investigated the effects of dietary protein level in high-lipid diets on serum and liver biochemistry, liver histology, and liver immune and antioxidant indexes and gene mRNA expression of the juvenile hybrid grouper (♀ Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × ♂ E. lanceolatus). Six iso-lipidic (161 g/kg) diets were formulated containing graded levels of protein (510 as control, 480,450, 420, 390 and 360 g/kg). Each treatment consisted of three replicates and 30 fish (6.70 ± 0.02 g) in one replicate. After an 8-week feeding experiment, the results indicated the following: (1) With the decreasing of dietary protein level, the specific growth rate (SGR) of groupers increased gradually and then decreased; SGRs of the 390 and 360 g/kg groups were significantly lower than other groups (p < 0.05). (2) In terms of serum and liver, the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and the total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) content, and the activity of immune enzymes such as lysozyme (LYS) and immunoglobulin (IgM) was significantly increased under the appropriate protein level. (3) Based on liver histology, we know that high or low dietary protein levels cause liver damage. (4) Dietary protein levels can significantly affect the mRNA expression levels of an anti-inflammatory factor gene (tgfβ), pro-inflammatory factor genes (il6, il8), heat shock proteins, and antioxidant and immune genes (hsp70 and hsp90, gpx, nrf2, keap1). It is concluded that the appropriate protein level can promote the growth performance of groupers, improve antioxidant activity and immune enzyme activity in serum and liver, and enhance the expression of immune genes.

Abstract:This study was designed to investigate the effects of dietary astaxanthin levels on growth performance, feed utilization, muscle pigmentation, and antioxidant capacity in juvenile rainbow trout. Four experimental diets were formulated to contain 0, 50, 75, and 100 mg/kg astaxanthin (designed as AX0, AX50, AX75, and AX100). Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of fish (18.5 g/fish) for 10 weeks. Growth performance and muscle composition of fish were not affected by dietary astaxanthin levels. Total carotenoid concentration in the muscle of fish fed the AX50 diet was higher than that of fish fed the AX0 diet, but no significant differences were observed between these fish and those fed the AX75 and AX100 diets. Muscle astaxanthin content increased with increased astaxanthin in the diet. Deposition of astaxanthin in the flesh resulted in a decrease in lightness and an increase in redness and yellowness. The fillets from trout fed the AX75 diet had significantly lower lightness than trout fed the AX50 and AX100 diets. Fish fed the AX50 and AX75 diets showed significantly lower catalase activity than those fed the control diet. Total antioxidant status increased significantly in all astaxanthin supplemented groups when compared to the control group. Superoxide dismutase activity was significantly decreased in fish fed the AX50 diet compared to fish fed the AX0 diet. These findings suggest that while fillet pigmentation increased with increasing dietary astaxanthin concentration, indices of fish antioxidant capacity may not be affected in a dose dependent manner.

Abstract:A feeding trial was conducted to assess the effects of dietary American cockroach Periplaneta americana meal (PAM) inclusion on the growth performance, antioxidant capacity, and immunity of juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. Five isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were formulated to contain 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 g/kg PAM (defined as PAM100-PAM300), respectively. The final body weight and weight gain rate of PAM250 were significantly higher than those of PAM100 and PAM150, and a higher specific growth rate was recorded in PAM200-PAM300. The highest levels of liver alanine aminotransferase and serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) as well as serum total amino acids were detected in PAM150, while higher levels of liver AST and serum total protein were detected in PAM200-PAM300. The liver lipase activity of PAM150, PAM200, and PAM300 was significantly higher than that of PAM100. The liver glucose content in PAM150 was significantly higher than that in PAM250-PAM300. The highest liver catalase, alkaline phosphatase (AKP), and lysozyme activities were detected in PAM300; the lowest liver malondialdehyde content was detected in PAM250, while the highest serum total antioxidant capacity, catalase, and total superoxide dismutase activities were detected in PAM250. The highest serum AKP and acid phosphatase activities were detected in PAM150, while higher serum IgM and complement C3 contents were detected in PAM200-PAM300. In conclusion, dietary PAM inclusion at 200-300 g/kg could improve the growth performance, antioxidant capacity, and immunity of juvenile O. mykiss.

Abstract:In this study, the effects of arginine on growth, serum antioxidant levels, intestinal digestion physiology, intestinal protein synthesis, and expression of inflammatory-related genes of triploid juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were investigated. Five diets containing 0.86%, 1.65%, 2.10%, 2.85%, and 3.50% arginine were fed to satiation to triplicate groups of 30 fish per tank for 8 weeks. The results showed that the weight gain rate, specific growth rate, and protein efficiency ratio significantly increased. The optimal dietary arginine requirement was 2.48% (5.97% of dietary protein) based on quadratic regression analysis between specific growth rate and dietary arginine content. There were no significant differences in crude lipid and ash content. Moisture significantly decreased, and crude protein content significantly increased ( P < 0.05 ). Superoxide dismutase, catalase, and lysozyme levels in serum and the liver first significantly increased and then decreased with the level of arginine compared to the control group ( P < 0.05 ), while the malondialdehyde level significantly decreased. Intestinal lipase and amylase levels significantly increased, but there was no significant difference in trypsin level ( P > 0.05 ). The muscular layer thickness and villus width foregut in the 2.85% group were significantly increased. TOR at 2.86% and IGF-1 and S6K1 at 2.11% reached the maximum level, and IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 showed a decreasing trend with their lowest levels in the 3.50% and 2.85% groups. The expression of TNF-α first decreased and then increased with the arginine level. Both TGF-β and IL-10 expression first decreased and then increased with the level of arginine and reached the maximum value in the 2.85% group. NF-κB showed an opposite trend and reached the lowest value in the 3.50% group. In conclusion, dietary arginine has a significant effect on growth, serum antioxidant capability, digestion physiology, immunity, digestion, and absorption of nutrients in triploid O. mykiss, and the optimum requirement is 2.48% fed a low-fishmeal diet.
