Abstract:Antibiotics are widely used drugs in human and veterinary medicine, which has attracted great attention in relation to the development of bacterial resistance, currently a problem of great concern for governments and states, as it is related to the resurgence of infectious diseases already eradicated. Understanding the bioaccumulation of antibiotics in aquatic organisms is an important key to understanding their risk assessment. The present study was designed to study the bioaccumulation of target antibiotics in relevant organisms inhabiting benthic marine environments. The uptake and elimination of ciprofloxacin (CIP), sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and trimethoprim (TMP) were investigated in sea cucumbers (Holothuria tubulosa), snakelock anemone (Anemonia sulcata) and beadlet anemone (Actinia equina) under controlled laboratory conditions. The results show that antibiotics have a particular trend over time during all periods of absorption and depuration. The tissue distribution of antibiotics in sea cucumber is strongly influenced by the structure of the compounds, while CIP is concentrated in the body wall; TMP is concentrated in the digestive tract. Two different approaches were used to estimate bioconcentration factors (BCFs) in different animal models, based on toxicokinetic data and measured steady-state concentrations. The BCF ranges were 456-2731 L/kg, 6-511 L/kg and 9-100 L/kg for TMP, CIP and SMX, respectively. The estimated BCF values obtained classify TMP as cumulative in A. equina and H. tubulosa, underlining the potential bioconcentration in these marine organisms. A correlation was observed between the BCFs of the target antibiotics and the octanol-water distribution coefficient (Dow) (r2 > 0.7). The animal-specific BCF followed the order of beadlet anemone > sea cucumber > snakelock anemone.
Bioconcentration of carbamazepine, enalapril, and sildenafil in neotropical fish species

Abstract:Sewage effluents are the main source of entry of Human Pharmaceutical Active Ingredients (HPAIs) to surface water bodies. Carbamazepine (CBZ), psychiatric drug, enalapril (ENA) antihypertensive, and sildenafil (SIL), to treat erectile dysfunction, have been frequently detected in receiving wastewater and in wild fish species from Argentina. This study aimed to assess the bioconcentration of selected HPAIs in native fish species of the Del Plata Basin. In a first trial, the bioconcentration factors of CBZ, ENA, and SIL were obtained by exposing Cnesterodon decemmaculatus, respectively, to 135, 309, and 70 μg/L during 96 h. Then the bioconcentration kinetic of SIL was comparatively assessed in C. decemmaculatus and Piaractus mesopotamicus exposed, respectively, to 44.1 and 16.2 μg/L during a one-week, followed by a four-day depuration phase. HPAIs concentrations in water and tissue were measured by HPLC-MS after 0.22 μm filtration and direct injection or solid-liquid extraction, respectively. Bioconcentration factors obtained empirically (BCFe) for C. decemmaculatus were CBZ = 1.5, SIL = 1.4, and ENA = 0.007. Parameters estimated by the SIL bioconcentration kinetic model for C. decemmaculatus were: uptake rate constant (k1) = 5.5 L/kg d, elimination rate constant during uptake phase (k2u) = 0.00175 d-1, maximum predicted tissue concentration (Ct(max)) = 138588 μg/kg, estimated bioconcentration factor (BCFm) = 3143, lag time between the exposure and the first detection in tissue (tlag) = 0 d, elimination rate constant in the depuration phase (k2d) = 0.49 d-1 and half-life in the tissue (t1/2) = 1.4 d. The model parameters for P. mesopotamicus were k1: 7.3 L/kg d, k2u: 0.0836 d-1, Ct(max): 1423 μg/kg, BCFm: 88, tlag: 3.8 d in the uptake phase and k2d: 0.31 d-1 and t1/2: 2.3 d in the depuration phase. The reached conclusions were: 1) the bioconcentration capacity of CBZ and SIL are similar but around 200 times higher than ENA, 2) the time to reach the bioconcentration equilibrium for SIL is longer than 1 week, then estimated BCFm are between 1 and 3 orders of magnitude higher than BCFe obtained after 96 h exposure, but actual values need to be verified, 3) substantial differences (≈30 fold) were observed in the estimated BCF of SIL among species, indicating the need for further studies toward understanding such diversity to improve HPAIs ecological risk assessment worldwide.
Gastro-intestinal absorption and transplacental transfer of amoxycillin during labour and the influence of metoclopramide.

Abstract:The absorption of amoxycillin from the gastro-intestinal tract, with or without oral metoclopramide, has been evaluated. Levels of amoxycillin in the maternal blood and liquor prior to the induction of labour were of a therapeutic level against many organisms. However, absorption during labour, as reflected by maternal blood levels at delivery and cord blood levels, suggests that amoxycillin is poorly absorbed and may not reach adequate therapeutic levels in the fetus. Oral metoclopramide did not improve the absorption of amoxycillin. Should a parenteral form of amoxycillin become available, a similar study of blood and liquor levels may indicate that, like ampicillin, intramuscular administration is required for adequate therapeutic use at this stage of pregnancy. Until an oral formulation of an appropriate antibiotic is available which gives rapid absorption may and a sustained level of the chemotherapeutic agent in this situation, parenteral administration of an appropriate antibiotic remains mandatory.
Periphyton, bivalves and fish differentially accumulate select pharmaceuticals in effluent-dependent stream mesocosms

Abstract:Pharmaceuticals and other ionizable contaminants from municipal wastewater treatment plant effluent can bioaccumulate in fish, particularly in effluent dominated and dependent systems in semi-arid and arid regions. However, invertebrate bioaccumulation of these compounds has been less studied. Using municipal wastewater effluent as source water in outdoor stream mesocosms to simulate effluent-dependent lotic systems, we examined bioaccumulation of several widely-used pharmaceuticals including acetaminophen (nonsteroidal anti-inflamatory), caffeine (stimulant), carbamazepine (anti-epileptic), diltiazem (calcium channel blocker), diphenhydramine (anti-histamine), fluoxetine (anti-depressant), norfluoxetine (anti-depressant metabolite), and sertraline (anti-depressant) in freshwater clams (Corbicula fluminea), periphyton and stoneroller minnows (Campostoma anomalum), a commonly studied grazer in stream ecology, during a replicated outdoor stream mesocosm study at the Baylor Experimental Aquatic Research facility. Target analytes were determined in tissues, source effluent and stream water by isotope dilution LC-MS/MS. After an 8-day uptake period, clams accumulated a number of pharmaceuticals, including acetaminophen, carbamazepine, diltiazem, diphenhydramine, fluoxetine, norfluoxetine and sertraline with maximum concentrations reaching low μg/kg. We observed uptake rates in clams for acetaminophen at 2.8 μg/kg per day, followed by diphenhydramine (1.2 μg/kg per day) and carbamazepine (1.1 μg/kg per day). Caffeine, carbamazepine, diltiazem and diphenhydramine were measured in periphyton. Diphenhydramine was the only compound detected in all matrices, where bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) were elevated in bivalves (1631 ± 589 L/kg), compared to stoneroller minnows (247 ± 84 L/kg) and periphyton (315 ± 116 L/kg). Such BAF variability across multiple biological matrices highlight the need to understand bioaccumulation differences for ionizable contaminants among freshwater biota, including threatened and endangered species (e.g., unionids), commercially important bivalves (e.g., estuarine and marine bivalves), and fish.

Abstract:1. Laboratory experiments were carried out to assess uptake and metabolism of the epilepsy drug, carbamazepine and its consequent biological responses in marine clam (Ruditapes decussatus) a model non-target organism in ecotoxicology. 2. Clams were exposed to two nominal concentrations (C1 = 30 μg/L and C2 = 50 μg/L) of CBZ for a maximum period of 14 days. Analysis of CBZ and their metabolites in clam and water after exposure to two nominal concentrations of the pharmaceutical drug were performed using UPLC-HRMS analysis. CBZ accumulation reached an average tissue concentration of 1241.59 ng/g dw and 1664.33 ng/g dw at low and high nominal concentration, respectively. 3. Furthermore, a metabolite (3-hydroxy-CBZ) was detected in tissues indicating carbamazepine translocation and metabolism inside clam, suspect screening of CBZ glucuronides was also performed by accurate mass extraction but it could not be detected. 4. Activities of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase, catalase and gluthatione-S-transferase generally increased. Change in the contents of glutathione, malondialdehyde and protein carbonyl were also studied. 5. Results indicated that the bioaccumulation of CBZ resulted in the changes of the antioxidant defense system and the production of ROS with the oxidative stress, ultimately induced alteration in lipid peroxidation and protein carbonyl.

Abstract:Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is currently the most widely used brominated flame retardant (BFR). In this study, the bioaccumulation of TBBPA and its consequent detoxification responses were examined in the scallop Chlamys farreri over 10 days' exposure. Chemical analysis showed that C. farreri absorbed TBBPA rapidly and an approximate steady state was achieved within 6 days. The mRNA expression levels of three important genes involved in aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) pathway were down-regulated upon TBBPA exposure. Both CYP3A and CYP4 showed time-dependent responses to TBBPA exposure. Glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activity and gene expression level, and UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) activity were increased in time- and dose-dependent manners, confirming their role in the phase II metabolism of TBBPA. The TBBPA-elicited down-regulation of the P-glycoprotein (Pgp) gene was observed in all treatments. This study provides a preliminary basis for studying TBBPA detoxification mechanisms of marine bivalves.
Accumulation and metabolization of the antidepressant venlafaxine and its main metabolite o-desmethylvenlafaxine in non-target marine organisms Holothuria tubulosa, Anemonia sulcata and Actinia equina

Abstract:The assessment of exposure to the antidepressant venlafaxine and its major metabolite o-desmethylvenlafaxine in Holothuria tubulosa, Anemonia sulcata and Actinia equina is proposed. A 28-day exposure experiment (10 μg/L day) followed by a 52-day depuration period was conducted. The accumulation shows a first-order kinetic process reaching an average concentration of 49,125/54342 ng/g dw in H. tubulosa and 64,810/93007 ng/g dw in A. sulcata. Venlafaxine is considered cumulative (BCF > 2000 L/kg dw) in H. tubulosa, A. sulcata and A. equina respectively; and o-desmethylvenlafaxine in A. sulcata. Organism-specific BCF generally followed the order A. sulcata > A. equina > H. tubulosa. The study revealed differences between tissues in metabolizing abilities in H. tubulosa this effect increases significantly with time in the digestive tract while it was negligible in the body wall. The results provide a description of venlafaxine and o-desmethylvenlafaxine accumulation in common and non-target organisms in the marine environment.
Marker-Assisted Introgression of Saltol QTL Enhances Seedling Stage Salt Tolerance in the Rice Variety “Pusa Basmati 1”

Abstract:Marker-assisted selection is an unequivocal translational research tool for crop improvement in the genomics era. Pusa Basmati 1 (PB1) is an elite Indian Basmati rice cultivar sensitive to salinity. Here, we report enhanced seedling stage salt tolerance in improved PB1 genotypes developed through marker-assisted transfer of a major QTL, Saltol. A highly salt tolerant line, FL478, was used as the Saltol donor. Parental polymorphism survey using 456 microsatellite (SSR)/QTL-linked markers revealed 14.3% polymorphism between PB1 and FL478. Foreground selection was carried out using three Saltol-linked polymorphic SSR markers RM8094, RM493, and RM10793 and background selection by 62 genome-wide polymorphic SSR markers. In every backcross generation, foreground selection was restricted to the triple heterozygotes of foreground markers, which was followed by phenotypic and background selections. Twenty-four near isogenic lines (NILs), with recurrent parent genome recovery of 96.0–98.4%, were selected after two backcrosses followed by three selfing generations. NILs exhibited agronomic traits similar to those of PB1 and additional improvement in the seedling stage salt tolerance. They are being tested for per se performance under salt-affected locations for release as commercial varieties. These NILs appear promising for enhancing rice production in salinity-affected pockets of Basmati Geographical Indication (GI) areas of India.

Abstract:Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) analogues have been investigated for their prevalent occurrence in environments and potential hazardous effects to humans and wildlife; however, there is still limited knowledge regarding their toxicokinetics and trophic transfer in aquatic food chains. Using a developed toxicokinetic model framework, we quantified the bioaccumulation, biotransformation and trophic transfer of tetrabromobisphenol S (TBBPS) and tetrabromobisphenol A di(allyl ether) (TBBPA-DAE) during trophic transfer from brine shrimp ( Artemia salina ) to zebrafish ( Danio rerio ). The results showed that the two TBBPA analogues could be readily accumulated by brine shrimp, and the estimated bioconcentration factor ( BCF ) value of TBBPS (5.68 L kg -1 ww) was higher than that of TBBPA-DAE (1.04 L kg -1 ww). The assimilation efficiency (AE) of TBBPA-DAE in zebrafish fed brine shrimp was calculated to be 16.3%, resulting in a low whole-body biomagnification factor ( BMF ) in fish (0.684 g g -1 ww). Based on the transformation products screened using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatograph-high resolution mass spectrometry (UPLC-HRMS), oxidative debromination and hydrolysis were identified as the major transformation pathways of TBBPS, while the biotransformation of TBBPA-DAE mainly took place through ether bond breaking and phase-II metabolism. Lower accumulation of TBBPA as a metabolite than its parent chemical was observed in both brine shrimp and zebrafish, with metabolite parent concentration factors ( MPCFs ) < 1. The investigated BCFs for shrimp of the two TBBPA analogues were only 3.77 × 10 -1 0 - 5.59 × 10 -3 times of the theoretical K shrimp-water based on the polyparameter linear free energy relationships (pp-LFERs) model, and the BMF of TBBPA-DAE for fish was 0.299 times of the predicted K shrimp-fish . Overall, these results indicated the potential of the trophic transfer in bioaccumulation of specific TBBPA analogues in higher trophic-level aquatic organisms and pointed out biotransformation as an important mechanism in regulating their bioaccumulation processes. Environmental Implication The internal concentration of a pollutant in the body determines its toxicity to organisms, while bioaccumulation and trophic transfer play important roles in elucidating its risks to ecosystems. Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) analogues have been extensively investigated for their adverse effects on humans and wildlife; however, there is still limited knowledge regarding their toxicokinetics and trophic transfer in aquatic food chains. This study investigated the bioaccumulation, biotransformation and trophic transfer of TBBPS and TBBPA-DAE in a simulated di-trophic food chain. This state-of-art study will provide a reference for further research on this kind of emerging pollutant in aquatic environments.

Abstract:Uptake and elimination kinetics, bioconcentration factors (BCFs), and metabolic transformation of 20 different pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs), covering a wide range of therapeutic categories and physico-chemical properties, were studied using zebrafish ( Danio rerio ). The fish were exposed to the mixture of the selected PhACs at environmentally relevant concentrations similar to 10 μg L −1 . The experiments were performed in semi-static conditions and comprised a 7-day uptake period followed by a 7-day depuration period. Most of the PhACs reached a concentration plateau within the 7-day uptake-phase which was followed by an efficient depuration, with the observed uptake ( k u ) and depuration rate constants ( k d, ) ranging between 0.002 and 3.752 L kg −1 h −1 , and 0.010 to 0.217 h −1 , respectively. The investigated PhACs showed low to moderate BCFs. The highest BCFs of 47.8, 28.6 and 47.6 L kg −1 were determined for sertraline, diazepam and desloratadine, respectively. A high contribution of metabolic products to the total internal concentration was observed for some PhACs such as codeine (69%), sulfamethoxazole (51%) and verapamil (87%), which has to be taken into account when assessing the bioconcentration potential. Moreover, most of the metabolites exhibited significantly longer half-lives in zebrafish than their parent compounds and affected the overall depuration kinetics.

Abstract:There is growing concern about the potential ecological risks posed by pharmaceutical residues in the aquatic environment. However, our understanding of the toxic effects of antiepileptic pharmaceuticals, such as carbamazepine (CBZ), on aquatic animal larvae is still limited. In this study, the tadpoles of the black-spotted pond frog (Pelophylax nigromaculatus) were exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of CBZ (0.3 and 3.0 μg/L) for 30 days, and their growth, intestinal microbial composition, and metabolites were investigated to assess the potential toxic effects of CBZ in non-targeted aquatic organisms. Some tadpoles died during exposure, but there was no significant among-group difference in the survival and growth rates. CBZ exposure significantly altered the composition of tadpole intestinal microbiota. Relative abundances of some bacterial genera (e.g., Blautia, Prevotella, Bacillus, Microbacterium, etc.) decreased, while others (e.g., Paucibacter, etc.) increased in CBZ-exposed tadpoles. Interestingly, CBZ-induced alterations in some bacteria might not necessarily lead to adverse outcomes for animals. Meanwhile, small molecular intestinal metabolites related to energy metabolism, and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities were also altered after exposure. Taken together, environmentally relevant levels of CBZ might alter the metabolic and immune performances of amphibian larvae by modifying the abundance of some specific bacteria and the level of metabolites in their intestines, thereby potentially causing a long-term effect on their fitness.

Assessment of the ecotoxicity of the pharmaceuticals bisoprolol, sotalol, and ranitidine using standard and behavioral endpoints

Abstract:The pharmaceuticals bisoprolol (BIS), sotalol (SOT), and ranitidine (RAN) are among the most consumed pharmaceuticals worldwide and are frequently detected in different aquatic ecosystems. However, very few ecotoxicity data are available in the literature for them. To help fill these data gaps, toxicity tests with the algae Raphidocelis subcapitata, the macrophyte Lemna minor, the cnidarian Hydra attenuata, the crustacean Daphnia similis, and the fish Danio rerio were performed for assessing the ecotoxicity of these pharmaceuticals. Standard, as well as non-standard endpoint, was evaluated, including the locomotor behavior of D. rerio larvae. Results obtained for SOT and RAN showed that acute adverse effects are not expected to occur on aquatic organisms at the concentrations at which these pharmaceuticals are usually found in fresh surface waters. On the other hand, BIS was classified as hazardous to the environment in the acute III category. Locomotor behavior of D. rerio larvae was not affected by BIS and RAN. A disturbance on the total swimming distance at the dark cycle was observed only for larvae exposed to the highest test concentration of 500 mg L-1 of SOT. D. similis reproduction was affected by BIS with an EC10 of 3.6 (0.1-34.0) mg L-1. A risk quotient (RQ) of 0.04 was calculated for BIS in fresh surface water, considering a worst-case scenario. To the best of our knowledge, this study presents the first chronic toxicity data with BIS on non-target organisms.

Abstract:Bioaccumulation is essential for gaining insight into the impact of exposure to organic micropollutants in aquatic fauna. Data are currently available on the bioaccumulation of persistent organic pollutants, but there is very little documentation on the bioaccumulation of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs). The bioconcentration of selected PPCPs was studied in marine mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis). The selected PPCPs were two organic UV filters, i.e., 2-ethylhexyl-4-trimethoxycinnamate (EHMC) and octocrylene (OC), and two benzodiazepines (BZP), i.e., diazepam (DZP) and tetrazepam (TZP). Laboratory experiments were performed in which M. galloprovincialis was exposed to these compounds either directly from water, for the less lipophilic substances (BZP) or via spiked food for lipophilic UV filters. M. galloprovincialis uptook and eliminated BZP following first-order kinetics. The biological half-life (t1/2) of TZP was 1.4 days, resulting in a bioconcentration factor of 64 and 99 mL g−1 dry weight (dw), respectively, for 2.3 and 14.5 μg L−1 of exposure, while the biological half-life (t1/2) of DZP was 0.4 days, resulting in a bioconcentration factor of 51 mL g−1 dw for 13.2 μg L−1 of exposure. The uptake of UV filter was rapid in mussels, followed by elimination within 24 h. EHMC increased from 15 to 138 ng g−1 dw in 1 h and decreased to 25 ng g−1 after 24 h for 11.9 μg L−1 exposure. OC reached 839 ng g-1 dw after 1 h and decreased to 33 ng g-1 after 24 h for 11.6 μg L-1 exposure. However, EHMC and OC were slightly accumulated in 48 h, i.e., 38 and 60 ng g−1 dw, respectively.

Abstract:Pharmaceutically active compounds are of great concern due to their detection frequency in the environment and the unexpected risks. In this study, the simultaneous removal of mixed pharmaceuticals by microalgae was explored using a typical freshwater diatom Navicula sp. Results showed that Navicula sp. could efficiently remove atenolol, carbamazepine, ibuprofen and naproxen with the efficiencies of >90% after 21 d of exposure. As compared to the removal efficiencies of each pharmaceutical in the individual pharmaceutical treatments, the degradation of sulfamethoxazole, bezafibrate, and naproxen was improved in the mixed treatment, whereas the removal efficiencies of carbamazepine and atenolol decreased. Additionally, the presence of hydrophobic pharmaceuticals (i.e., ibuprofen and naproxen) accelerated the degradation of carbamazepine and sulfamethoxazole and inhibited the removal of atenolol in the mixture with the combination of six pharmaceuticals, while the addition of other pharmaceuticals show no significant effect on the removal of ibuprofen and naproxen. The bioaccumulation of pharmaceuticals in Navicula sp. increased as their log KOW values decreased. Four bezafibrate metabolites were identified and the degradation pathways of bezafibrate in diatom were proposed. It is the first report on the metabolism of BEZ in diatom, and further studies on the environmental risk of the metabolites should be investigated.

Abstract:Despite the increasing production, use, and ubiquitous occurrence of novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs), little information is available regarding their fate in aquatic organisms. In this study, the bioaccumulation and biotransformation of two typical NBFRs, i.e., 1,2-bis (2,4,6-tribromophenoxyethane) (BTBPE) and 1,2-dibromo-4-(1,2-dibromoethyl)-cyclohexane (TBECH), were investigated in tissues of zebrafish (Danio rerio) being administrated a dose of target chemicals through their diet. Linear accumulation was observed for both BTBPE and TBECH in the muscle, liver, gonads, and brain of zebrafish, and the elimination of BTBPE and TBECH in all tissues followed pseudo-first-order kinetics, with the fastest depuration rate occurring in the liver. BTBPE and TBECH showed low bioaccumulation potential in zebrafish, with biomagnification factors (BMFs) < 1 in all tissues. Individual tissues' function and lipid content are vital factors affecting the distribution of BTBPE and TBECH. Stereoselective accumulation of TBECH enantiomers was observed in zebrafish tissues, with first-eluting enantiomers, i.e. E1-α-TBECH and E1-β-TBECH, preferentially accumulated. Additionally, the transformation products (TPs) in the zebrafish liver were comprehensively screened and identified using high-resolution mass spectrometry. Twelve TPs of BTBPE and eight TPs of TBECH were identified: biotransformation pathways involving ether cleavage, debromination, hydroxylation, and methoxylation reactions for BTBPE and hydroxylation, debromination, and oxidation processes for TBECH. Biotransformation is also a vital factor affecting the bioaccumulation potential of these two NBFRs, and the environmental impacts of NBFR TPs should be further investigated in future studies. The findings of this study provide a scientific basis for an accurate assessment of the ecological and environmental risks of BTBPE and TBECH.

Abstract:Pharmaceuticals such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been found in the marine environment. Although there is a large body of evidence that pharmaceutical drugs exert negative impacts on aquatic organisms, especially in the freshwater compartment, only limited studies are available on bioconcentration and the effects of NSAIDs on marine organisms. Bivalves have a high ecologic and socio-economic value and are considered good bioindicator species in ecotoxicology and risk assessment programs. Therefore, this review summarizes current knowledge on the bioconcentration and the effects of three widely used NSAIDs, diclofenac, ibuprofen and paracetamol, in marine bivalves exposed under laboratory conditions. These pharmaceutical drugs were chosen based on their environmental occurrence both in frequency and concentration that may warrant their inclusion in the European Union Watch List. It has been highlighted that ambient concentrations may result in negative effects on wild bivalves after long-term exposure. Also, due to food-chain transfer, higher trophic level organisms may be impacted due to food-chain transfer (e.g., humans are shellfish consumers). Overall, the three selected NSAIDs were reported to bioconcentrate in marine bivalves, with recognized effects at different life-stages, immune responses being the main target of a long-term exposure. The studies selected support the inclusion of diclofenac on the European Union Watch List and highlight the importance of conducting research for ibuprofen and paracetamol due to their demonstrated negative effects, under laboratory conditions, on marine bivalves exposed to environmental realistic concentrations.

Abstract:This special issue comprises selected papers which were presented at the workshop on dependently typed programming (DTP 10) in Edinburgh in July 2010 – affiliated with Federated Logic conferences (FLOC 10). Earlier workshops on dependently typed programming took place in Nottingham in 2008 (DTP 2008) and there also has been a Dagstuhl seminar (04381) on this subject in 2004. After DTP 2010, in 2011 a workshop on dependently typed programming (DTP 11) took place in Nijmegen affiliated with Interactive Theorem Proving 2011 (ITP 11). In September 2011 there also was a DTP workshop in Shonan, Japan.
