Abstract:It is desirable to develop a highly stable, cost-effective, and recyclable adsorbent to adsorb Au(I) from thiosulfate solutions. In this study, reliable aminated microspheres (PS–TETA) were synthesized via a one-pot method that profited from active chloromethyl group-induced nucleophilic substitution between chloromethylated polystyrene (PS–Cl) and triethylenetetramine (TETA). These microspheres were used to recover a gold(I) thiosulfate complex. Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller technique, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were adopted to analyze the surface elements and structure of PS–TETA. Additionally, influencing parameters, such as pH, thiosulfate concentration, and temperature, were investigated. The results indicated that the synthetic process and gold-adsorption behavior of PS–TETA was directly related to the surface chlorine and amine groups. The adsorption process was exothermic and consistent with the Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetics. Complete adsorption of Au(I) was achieved with a maximum capacity of 23.79 kg t–1. Na2SO3 proved to be an effective desorbent and exhibited a satisfactory adsorption ability of the adsorbent even after five cycles. Anion exchange as a reasonable Au(S2O3)2 3– adsorption mechanism of PS–TETA is proposed. This study offers a practical method for synthesizing aminated microspheres with excellent properties to recover Au(I) from thiosulfate solutions.

Abstract:Thiosulfate gold leaching is one of the most promising green cyanide-free gold extraction processes; however, the difficulty of recovering Au(I) from the leaching system hinders its further development. This study prepared aminoguanidine-functionalized microspheres (AGMs) via a one-step reaction involving nucleophilic substitution between aminoguanidine hydrochloride and chloromethylated polystyrene microspheres and used AGMs to adsorb Au(I) from thiosulfate solutions. Scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to analyze the structure and properties of AGMs. Experiments were designed to investigate the effects of pH, temperature, initial Au(I), and thiosulfate concentrations on the gold adsorption performance of AGMs. Results demonstrated that AGMs can efficiently adsorb Au(I) from thiosulfate solutions in a wide pH range. The adsorption process conforms to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model, with a maximum capacity of 22.03 kg/t. Acidic thiourea is an effective desorbent, and after four adsorption–desorption cycles, the adsorption rate of Au(I) by AGMs is 78.63%, which shows AGMs have good cyclic application potential. Based on the results of characterization, experiments, and density functional theory calculations, the mechanism for the adsorption of [Au(S 2 O 3 ) 2 ] 3− on AGMs involves anion exchange. Importantly, AGMs exhibited satisfactory adsorption property for Au(I) in practical Cu 2+ –NH 3 (en)–S 2 O 3 2− systems. This study provided experimental reference for the recovery of Au(I) from thiosulfate solution.

Abstract:Silica gel (SG) was modified using 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) for use as an adsorbent for the recovery of gold(I) from a thiosulfate solution, based on the hard and soft acids and bases theory. The interfacial properties of the mercaptopropyl-functionalised silica gel (MP–SG) and its performance for the adsorption of gold(I) from a thiosulfate solution were examined. An optimized modification procedure was determined to produce a MP–SG mercapto group content of 1.1 mmol·g-1. Characterisation of the prepared samples revealed the immobilisation of the MPTMS on the SG surface through chemical adsorption, and that the modification process was accompanied by the release of methanol. The ratio of methanol to the mercapto groups was determined to be 2.06, indicating the formation of 1, 2, or 3 bonds between the SG and MPTMS. The effects of the solution pH, adsorption temperature, thiosulfate concentration and gold concentration on the adsorption of gold(I) onto MP–SG, were also evaluated. The adsorption of gold onto the MP–SG surface was determined to involve ion-interchange between the mercapto groups and Au(S2O3)23-. Numerical investigation of the gold adsorption mechanism, revealed that the charge of gold(I) decreased through charge transfer from the ligand to gold(I). The Au–MP–SG could be eluted using mixture of 1% thiourea and 2 mol·L-1 HCl. The findings of this study demonstrate the potential of SG for practical application to gold recovery from a thiosulfate solution.

Abstract:In this paper, Ionic liquid Aliquat-336 impregnated chitosan microspheres (CMA) was synthesized and applied for Au(I) recovery from thiosulfate solution, which possessed adjustable particle size, good hardness and good selectivity adsorption capacity. The synthesis parameters (Aliquat-336 dosage and size) of CMA were explored. And the effects of initial solution pH, initial gold concentration, thiosulfate concentration and temperature on the gold(I) adsorption performance by CMA were was investigated systematically. The results showed CMA performed well over a wide pH range, and maximum gold adsorption capacity of 20.3 mg/g. Additionally, the gold adsorption behavior on CMA was similar to pseudo-first-order kinetics and the Langmuir model. SEM-EDS, FT-IR and XPS analyses confirmed that the mechanism of [Au(S 2 O 3 ) 2 ] 3- adsorb on the CMA may be anion exchange. Notably, CMA exhibited an excellent selectivity for Au(I) in a Cu-ethylenediamine (en)-S 2 O 3 2- solution. Loaded gold on CMA was easily eluted using a sodium sulfite solution, achieving a gold recovery of 62.2 %, even after four adsorption–desorption cycles. Finally, in the actual gold ore leachate adsorption and slurry adsorption method, the adsorption of gold and copper by CMA is approximately 98 % and 7 %, respectively. This study makes significant progress towards gold selective recovery in thiosulfate system, which is useful for the gold thiosulfate hydrometallurgy field.

Abstract:Natural materials that are economical and environmentally benign are being explored as adsorbent bases for recovering Au(I) from thiosulfate solution via an efficient grafted functional group. In this work, natural vermiculite (VE) modified with triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO) was used to adsorb Au(I) from thiosulfate solution, and it's gold recovery performance and adsorption mechanism. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and nitrogen adsorption were used to characterize the adsorbents. TPPO-modified VE (VE-TPPO) showed improved gold adsorption ability at a pH of approximately 10, thiosulfate concentration of approximately 0.1 mol/L and temperature of approximately 25 °C. More than 95% of Au(I) could be recovered, and the loading capacity of Au on VE-TPPO increased with decreasing adsorption temperature, reaching an amount of 4.22 kg/t after once adsorption. TPPO was adsorbed on vermiculite through cationic-π bonds. Au(I) was adsorbed on VE-TPPO by a ligand-exchange mechanism involving charge transfer between PO groups and Au(I). Moreover, the interaction mechanism between TPPO and Au(I) was further validated by density functional theory calculations. The use of natural materials with low cost and environmental impact can make the process of leaching gold with thiosulfate safer and cleaner.

Abstract:The gold recovery from wastewater is not only beneficial to environmental protection, but also to alleviate the shortage of resources. Chitosan is considered as an excellent adsorption material, but its application in gold recovery is always some shortcomings including low adsorption capacity and selectivity. This work developed an efficient biosorbent (CS-ES) by functionalizing chitosan with poly(ethylene sulfide) for gold recovery from simulated wastewater. The properties and adsorption mechanism of CS-ES were investigated using SEM, EDS, XRD, FT-IR, BET and XPS. The results of experiments revealed that the adsorption efficiency of CS-ES for Au(III) reaches more than 90% in a wide pH range (2.0–6.0) and the highest adsorption efficiency about 99.07% was achieved at pH = 5.0. At 318 K, the highest adsorption ability of CS-ES for gold ions was 657.49 mg/g. The adsorption findings supported the Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models, suggesting that monolayer chemisorption is the dominant adsorption mechanism. The thermodynamic performance (ΔH° and ΔS° > 0, ΔG°<0) showed that gold ion adsorption by CS-ES is spontaneous exothermic reaction. CS-ES shows an excellent reproducibility after four adsorption-desorption cycles and selectivity against six metal ions. Moreover, a variety of physicochemical and spectroscopic tests demonstrate the extremely effective adsorption and in-situ reduction of gold by CS-ES are based on electrostatic attraction, chelation, and reduction between gold and nitrogen/sulfur groups. In this work, a novel adsorbent for recovering Au(III) from wastewater was devised with great efficiency, selectivity and repeatability.

Abstract:The advancement of fundamental research in adsorption remains a significant hurdle in achieving thiosulfate gold extraction method widespread industrial application. The present study described a design scheme for a functional recognition ligand aimed at adsorption Au(I) in thiosulfate solution, and evaluated its performance as an adsorbent. The soft S atom was selected as the coordinating atom for Au(I) in thiosulfate solution, utilizing a planar conjugated structure to regulate the ligand's configuration and charge distribution, resulting in a new ligand with similar polarizability to Au(I). The newly designed ligand can form a stronger σ−feedback π bond interaction with Au(I) while minimizing ligand steric hindrance. Consequently, the Au(I) recognition was achieved due to the increased Au(I)−complexes' stability. The synthesized ligands−rich adsorbent (TF−O−) and its adsorption mode for Au(I), as determined through characterization and batch adsorption experiments, are in agreement with the theoretical predictions. The gold loading capacity on TF−O− in thiosulfate solution reaches 370.87 mg ∙ g−1 at 25 °C, which is approximately 15 times higher than that of resin and carbon materials. Furthermore, TF−O− has achieved effective anti−anion interference, simple desorption, and efficient regeneration. This study presents a promising design scheme for functional recognition ligand in metallurgical solutions.

Abstract:It is important to develop a facile and highly efficient synthetic strategy to fabricate an adsorbent exhibiting excellent adsorption performance and separation ability to recover Au from thiosulfate solutions. Herein, we report a magnetic silica composite (Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -SH) that was successfully fabricated using an economical, one-pot synthesis method for efficient Au(I) adsorption. The results revealed that the performance of the adsorbent was pH dependent, and the single saturated adsorption capacity was 15.11 mg/g. The adsorption process could be well-explained by the Elovich kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model, indicating that chemical adsorption dominated the monolayer adsorption process. Furthermore, the adsorption process was exothermic. The chemical structures and properties of the adsorbents were analyzed using various characterization and analysis methods. The chelating interaction between -SH and Au(I) promoted the adsorption of Au on Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -SH. The gold-loaded, highly reusable adsorbent could be readily eluted using Na 2 S 2 O 3 (3 mol/L), and > 90% of the gold could be recovered from the adsorbent in a thiosulfate gold leaching solution with Cu 2+ -NH 3 -S 2 O 3 2- as the leaching system. Most of the adsorbent in the pulp could be collected using a magnet, and this reduced the separation cost. The adsorbent can recover more than 90% of gold in both simulated and actual thiosulfate-based gold leaching solutions, indicating that the results reported herein provide a cost-effective strategy for the fabrication of magnetic silica composites characterized by a satisfactory adsorption capacity.

Abstract:The selective adsorption and recovery of gold (Au) from water is highly necessary due to its shortage and large value. Herein, we anchored meso -2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) in metal–organic framework (MOF) to obtain a novel adsorbent, MOF-808-DMSA. Benefited from highly dispersed and dense thiol groups, MOF-808-DMSA exhibits a high adsorption capacity of 2008.4 mg g −1 with an equilibrium time of 60 min, superior to most of MOF-based adsorbents. Common metal cations and anions have negligible effects on the capture of Au(III) ion, and effective adsorption (>99.0%) is feasible under a wide acidic pH range of 1.0–6.0. Based on that, the selective capture of Au(III) ion from a real electronic wastewater was achieved successfully. Furthermore, via using hydrochloric acid-thiourea aqueous solution as the eluent, Au(III)-adsorbed adsorbent can be well regenerated. Combining density functional theory calculations and experimental analysis, the strong chemical affinity of Au(III) ion and the active groups with dispersed distribution was verified.

Abstract:The chitosan microparticles were prepared using the inverse phase emulsion dispersion method and modified with thiourea (TCS). TCS was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, sulfur elemental analysis, specific surface area and pore diameter. The effects of various parameters, such as pH, contact time, initial concentration and temperature, on the adsorption of Pt(IV) and Pd(II) by TCS were investigated. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity was found at pH 2.0 for both Pt(IV) and Pd(II). TCS can selectively adsorb Pt(IV) and Pd(II) from binary mixtures with Cu(II), Pb(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), Ca(II), and Mg(II). The adsorption reaction followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics, indicating the main adsorption mechanism of chemical adsorption. The isotherm adsorption equilibrium was well described by Langmuir isotherms with the maximum adsorption capacity of 129.9mg/g for Pt(IV) and 112.4mg/g for Pd(II). The adsorption capacity of both Pt(IV) and Pd(II) decreased with temperature increasing. The negative values of enthalpy (ΔH°) and Gibbs free energy (ΔG°) indicate that the adsorption process is exothermic and spontaneous in nature. The adsorbent was stable without loss of the adsorption capacity up to at least 5 cycles and the desorption efficiencies were above 95% when 0.5M EDTA–0.5M H2SO4 eluent was used. The results also showed that the preconcentration factor for Pt(IV) and Pd(II) was 196 and 172, respectively, and the recovery was found to be more than 97% for both precious metal ions.

Abstract:The thiosulfate method is a cyanide-free hydrometallurgical method for gold extraction, but the existence of copper ion in Cu 2+ –NH 3 –S 2 O 3 2− system is not conducive to the subsequent gold(I) recovery. This paper describes a process for improving the gold(I) adsorption capacity of mercapto-functionalized silica gel (MP-SG) by using ethylenediamine (en) as an additive to mask copper(II). The effects of en/Cu 2+ molar ratio, contact time, and pH on adsorption were investigated. The results showed that the addition of en increased the adsorption capacity of MP-SG to gold by more than 70%. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed that the valence states of gold and copper on the adsorbent were both + 1, which confirmed the occurrence of competitive copper(II) adsorption. This could be inhibited by the addition of en without affecting the interfacial properties of MP-SG. UV–vis spectroscopy and the distribution of copper species revealed that addition of en changed the composition of the solution, forming a more stable Cu(en) 2 2+ complex, the fraction of Cu(en) 2 2+ increased with en content, thus reducing the competitive adsorption of Cu(II) to gold (I). The recovery rate of gold in the actual thiosulfate leaching solution was up to 92.35%, and en has almost no influence on the recycling process of the recovered leaching liquor, which proves the feasibility of this method in practical application.

Abstract:The increasing heavy metal pollution caused by industrial wastewater has posed serious environmental concerns, and the removal of heavy metals such as silver becomes an urgent issue to be solved currently. In this research, novel functionalized chitosan beads were prepared by grafting of triethylenetetramine onto chitosan beads. Compared to unmodified chitosan, the triethylenetetramine-modified chitosan (CS-TA) exhibited both higher adsorption capacity and better selectivity for Ag(I) adsorption due to the introduction of amino/amine groups which has a high affinity for Ag(I). The influences of pH, sorbent dose, contact time Ag(I) concentration, and co-existed ions on Ag(I) adsorption were investigated. The adsorption kinetics could be fitted by pseudo-second-order model, whereas the adsorption isotherms could be described by the Langmuir model, indicating that chemisorption is the main mechanism for Ag(I) adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacity reached 419.8 mg/g at pH 5.0 and 298 K. The thermodynamic parameters suggest that the Ag(I) adsorption is endothermic and spontaneous. This work demonstrated that CS-TA exhibited superior performance for Ag(I) removal from aqueous solution due to its good hydrophilicity, high adsorption capacity, and fast kinetic rate, thus it could be potentially applied in wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Gold recovery technology is an urgent challenge in the industrialisation of thiosulfate-based gold extraction. Current materials used for gold recovery suffer from a lack of wear resistance and small particle size, which makes it difficult to separate the material from thiosulfate solutions. In this study, a cysteamine-functionalised granular polyacrylonitrile (cys-PANG) material containing three-dimensional channels was designed and synthesised. The results indicate that cys-PANG, prepared using a solvent exchange method, has remarkable adsorption capacity for gold, smooth outer surface, well-developed internal pore structure, high wear resistance, and controllable size, making it suitable for gold recovery from thiosulfate pulp. The adsorption of gold in a thiosulfate solution by cys-PANG followed the Freundlich isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic adsorption models with minimal pH dependence. Cys-PANG also demonstrated the effective adsorption of gold in a Cu(II)–ethanediamine (en)–S 2 O 3 2− solution, even in the presence of copper and en interference. Both experimental results and theoretical calculations revealed that the interaction between cys-PANG and gold in the thiosulfate solution is predominantly characterised by charge attraction and ligand exchange mechanisms. Adsorption tests of cys-PANG in actual thiosulfate pulp demonstrated exceptional gold recovery properties and minimal wear even after 14 days of continuous stirring. This study presents a promising alternative methodology for the recovery of gold from thiosulfate pulp.

Abstract:Developing an efficient and cleaner technology to recover gold (III) from aqueous media is vital for both economic and environmental perspectives. Herein, Cu2S was first found with well Au (III) recovery ability, rod and flower-like Cu2S nanoparticles prepared by dynamic modulation, with jaggy micro-surface and relatively hard-wearing shape, was found with well Au (III) affinity. Results proved that this adsorbent could work better over a relatively wide pH from 2 to 5, and temperature from 25 to 55 °C, and that attained high gold capacity of 5,582 mg/g which obviously exceeded other reported adsorbents, indicating well application potential. XRD, TEM, and XPS studies demonstrated that adsorbed Au (III) was reduced as Au (0) by Cu2S. Au (III) recovery ability and selectivity in the actual sample was proved to be well too. Also, more than 90% gold on Cu2S could be recovered with HNO3. This study is of great theoretical and practical significance for cleaner Au (III) recovery from various aqueous media.
Highly Efficient and Selective Extraction of Au(I) from Thiosulfate Gold-Leaching Solution Using Diphenylphosphine

Abstract:Solvent extraction has the advantages of continuous operation mode and high loading capacity, which has received some attention in the field of thiosulfate gold leaching, but current research results are not satisfactory. In this study, diphenylphosphine (DPP) diluted in benzene was used to extract gold from thiosulfate solution, and its extraction behavior and properties were investigated. The effects of the DPP concentration, pH value, contact time, and sodium thiosulfate concentration on the extraction performance were evaluated. Under the optimal conditions, 0.7 mmol/L DPP showed high gold-extraction efficiency (99%) from 0.2 mol/L S2O32- solution embracing 10 mg/L Au(I) at pH = 10.0 with an aqueous/organic (A/O) ratio of 2. A high A/O ratio (A/O = 15) can be used in the extraction stage to achieve complete recovery of gold ions from solution. In addition, DPP showed high selectivity and recovery ability in Cu-NH3-thiosulfate gold-leaching solution, and the recovery rate was higher than 99%. The mechanism of gold-ion extraction by DPP involving ligand exchange between DPP and [Au(S2O3)(2)](3-) was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The P atom in Ph2-P- plays an important role in complexation of gold ions, which was confirmed by density functional theory calculation. The extraction method with low reagent consumption and high recovery rate developed in this study will greatly promote the development of gold leaching with thiosulfate.

Abstract:The recovery of Au(III) has become a focal point of interest due to its significance in resource utilization and addressing environmental contamination. In this study, [C 3 NH 2 Mim]Cl-CMPS and PPh 3 -CMPS were successfully developed by immobilizing [C 3 NH 2 Mim]Cl and triphenylphosphine (PPh 3 ) onto chloromethylated polystyrene beads (CMPS). The adsorbents demonstrated consistently high adsorption efficiency (>95 %) at a wide pH range. The [C 3 NH 2 Mim]Cl-CMPS and PPh 3 -CMPS exhibited exceptional selective adsorption ability for Au(III), and the adsorption process adhered to the PSO and Langmuir model. The adsorption efficiency of Au(III) remained constant after five consecutive cycles, highlighting outstanding reusability performance. Furthermore, as the existence of multiple coexisting metal ions, [C 3 NH 2 Mim]Cl-CMPS and PPh 3 -CMPS could efficiently and selectively capture Au(III) from the gold slag and PCBs lixivium, which is promising for Au recovery in practice.

Abstract:A novel inorganic–organic hybrid material silica gel chemically modified by triethylenetetraminomethylenephosphonic acid (denoted as GH-T-P) has been synthesized and characterized. Its adsorption properties GH-T-P for Au(III), Hg(II), Cu(II), Pb(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Ni(II), Cr(III) and Cd(II) have been investigated, and the research results revealed that GH-T-P has the best adsorption capacity for Au(III). Furthermore, the adsorption selectivity results of GH-T-P for Au(III) displayed that GH-T-P had excellent adsorption for Au(III) in binary ions systems, especially in the systems of Au(III)–Zn(II), Au(III)–Ni(II) and Au(III)–Cr(III). Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied to analyze the experimental data, and the best interpretation for the experimental data was given by the Langmuir isotherm equation. GH-T-P could reach to the saturation adsorption capacity within 2h, and its excellent adsorption capacity for Au(III) was 266.49mg/g when the initial solution concentration was 2.0mmol/L at 35°C. Moreover, the research revealed that its adsorption kinetics can be modeled by pseudo-second-order rate equation wonderfully, and the thermodynamic parameters ΔG, ΔH and ΔS were −20.79kJmol−1, 5.17kJmol−1, and 84.37JK−1mol−1, respectively. Thus, this novel hybrid material silica gel chemically modified by triethylenetetraminomethylenephosphonic acid GH-T-P is favorable and useful for the uptake of Au(III), and the high adsorption capacity and good reproducibility make it a good promising candidate material for the precious metal uptake.
Superior sorption capacity and one-step reduction of Au(III) by a novel chitosan-based electrospun fiber mat: A cheap and simple technique

Abstract:In this study, electrospinning technique was used to synthesize a novel cost-effective fiber mat chitosan-glutaraldehyde-thiourea (CS-Glu-Th) with superior maximum sorption capacity, sorption rate, and selectivity. The sorption results showed that CS-Glu-Th performed perfectly at both low and high concentrations of Au(III), with the maximum sorption capacity above 2.28 × 10 6 mg/kg at high concentrations and a recovery efficiency of 98.44% at low concentrations; sorption equilibrium was reached in about 5 h. Sorption of Au(III) on CS-Glu-Th was driven by a combination of both electrostatic attraction and coordination interaction with C–N, CN, and CS groups. Importantly, 94.55% of the sorbed Au(III) was directly reduced to elemental gold by the electron donor C-N group. Additionally, CS-Glu-Th showed favorable sorption selectivity for Au(III); its recovery efficiency reached 97.30% under the interference of co-existing elements (i.e., Cu(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Zn(II), and Pt(IV)) at a same concentration of 2 mg/L. A cost-benefit analysis showed that if one synthesizes 1 kg of CS-Glu-Th, a profit of 33044.7 RMB can be achieved by recovering Au(III) from an industrial application scenario, equivalent to a profit rate of 22.0%. Our findings highlight that the finally-synthesized fiber mat CS-Glu-Th is a promising material to recover gold from the aqueous phase with excellent performance.

Abstract:Developing an efficient and cleaner technology to recover gold (III) from aqueous media is vital for both economic and environmental perspectives. Herein, Cu 2 S was first found with well Au (III) recovery ability. Rod and flower-like Cu 2 S nanoparticles prepared by dynamic modulation, with jaggy micro-surface and relatively hard-wearing shape, was found with well Au (III) affinity. Results proved that this adsorbent could work better over a relatively wide pH from 2 to 5, and temperature from 25 to 55 °C, and that attained high gold capacity of 5,582 mg/g which obviously exceeded other reported adsorbents, indicating well application potential. XRD, TEM, and XPS studies demonstrated that adsorbed Au (III) was reduced as Au (0) by Cu 2 S. Abstract:A novel metal organic framework absorbent was synthesized by one step method using 2,2'-dithiodibenzoic acid as organic linker for efficient and selective recovery of Au(III) from aqueous solution. The adsorbent were detected by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and zeta potential instruments. Its performance was tested by batch experiments. The adsorption isotherm conforms to the Langmuir model, demonstrating that the adsorption process is the uniform monolayer adsorption. The kinetic model is well fitted to the pseudo secon-dorder dynamics model. The maximum adsorption capacity was 1119 mg/g at pH = 2. High temperatures can promote the absorption process. The five adsorption and desorption cycles indicate that the adsorbent has good repeatability for Au(III) adsorption. It could selectively adsorbed Au(III) from wastewater. The adsorption derive from chelation and reduction. The DFT and XPS results show that Au(III) is mainly adsorbed on the adsorbent by coupling with the S atom. These results indicate that it has a high potential to remove Au(III) from industrial wastewater.
