Abstract:Color matching between the resin composite and the teeth is the most aimed target by the patient to evaluate the quality of the treatment. The aim was to investigate the ability of the uni-shade restorative material to match the tooth shade and the blending effect of the single shade structurally colored universal resin composite. Materials and methods disc shaped specimen (6×2 mm) were prepared from Omnichroma® single shade resin composite. Color shade was recorded for 10 freshly extracted premolars by Easyshade® according to CIE Lab system. Standardized class V cavities (4×2×1.5 mm) were prepared on the buccal surface of each tooth away 0.5mm from the CEJ. Cavities were then restored with resin composite, cured for 40s, and their color was recorded after 24 hours storage in distal water. Two tests have been done, the first was to determine the differences of the color parameters between disc and resin composite in teeth (T1). The second was to record the change in color between the sound teeth and the resin composite in teeth (T2). The color change data statistically analyzed using paired t-test. It was considered statistically significant at(a=0.05). Results All color parameters in the two tests showed significant changes except (ΔL) in T2 which showed nonsignificant differences. The specimens showed decrease in lightness and showed shifting toward the green and yellow direction, while in T2 they became lighter than the teeth and directed toward the green and blue scale. Conclusion OMNICHROMA single shade resin composite matches the shade of enamel.
Clinicopathological characteristics of interstitial foam cells in membranous nephropathy.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Interstitial foam cells are occasionally observed in various renal diseases, and they have been reported to belong to the monocyte/macrophage (M phi) lineage and to be associated with heavy proteinuria and hyperlipidemia. We investigated the characteristics of interstitial foam cells and their association with proteinuria and hyperlipidemia in idiopathic membranous nephropathy (MN). METHODS Patients with MN (N = 320) were divided into two groups: group I consisted of 51 patients with interstitial foam cells, and group II consisted of the other 269 without foam cells. We compared clinical parameters and the findings of an immunohistochemical study using monoclonal antibodies to various types of leukocytes and adhesion molecules. RESULTS The age at renal biopsy, the degree of proteinuria, serum levels of lipids, and other clinical parameters except for sex ratio were not different between the two groups. The ratio of nephrotic patients was compatible between groups I (56.9%) and II (52.8%). All interstitial foam cells were positive for CD68 and 25F9, which are markers for M phi and mature M phi, respectively, but were negative for CD3 or cytokeratin. Interstitial infiltrating cells were positive for CD68 and CD3 but were negative for 25F9. Furthermore, most of interstitial foam cells were positive for both leukocyte function associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), but not for ICAM-3 (the third ligand for LFA-1). By contrast, most of infiltrating nonfoamy M phi s were positive for ICAM-3 and LFA-1, however, ICAM-1 was observed on only some of them. CONCLUSION These results suggest that interstitial foam cells in MN may not depend on proteinuria nor hyperlipidemia directly. The accumulation of foam cells, which have characteristics of mature M phi, may be related to ICAM-1 as a ligand of LFA-1, whereas infiltration of nonfoamy M phi s has a close relationship with ICAM-3. Thus, the formation of interstitial foam cells may be related to the phenotypical transformation of M phi s.
Effect of Restoration Depth and Thermocycling on Color Matching of a Smart Single Shade Universal Resin Composite with the Surrounding Hard Dental Tissues

Abstract:Objective: To determine the shade matching ability of a single-shade universal composite with the surrounding hard dental tissues at different cavity depths and after thermocycling. Materials and Methods: Ninety extracted premolars were selected and Class V cavities were then prepared and teeth were divided in to 3 groups according to cavity depths; Group 1: 1 mm cavity depth, Group 2: 2 mm cavity depth and Group 3: 3 mm cavity depth. Specimens were restored with an Omnichroma shade matching composite and stored in distilled water at 37° C for 24 h. Subsequently, each group was subdivided in to 3 subgroups according to thermocycling protocols as follow; subgroup A not thermocycled (as control), subgroup B aged by 5000 TC and subgroup C aged by 10000 TC. Shade evaluations were recorded using the digital spectrophotometer. The color data were statistically analyzed, and was considered statistically significant at P = 0.05. Results: There was no significant difference in the L*a*b* values between the restoration and tooth for all groups and subgroups (P > 0.05). Color differences (∆E) were significantly higher at restorations with 1 mm cavity depth than that with 2 mm and 3 mm cavity depths (P < 0.05). On contrary, thermocycling led to significant color changes (P < 0.05), compared to control group. Conclusion: Omnichroma single-shade universal composite is good alternative for color-matched, esthetically satisfying restorations. Restoration depth was positively associated with shade matching ability, while thermocycling negatively affected it.

Color Matching of Universal Shade Resin-Based Composite with Natural Teeth and Its Stability before and after In-Office Bleaching

Abstract:Objectives. Esthetics is an essential issue for the long-term success of composite resin restoration. Therefore, this study aimed to view the esthetics of universal shade composite resin restorations and to assess its color matching before and after bleaching. Materials and Methods. Overall, 40 freshly extracted premolars were mounted in an acrylic resin mold, and Class V cavities were then prepared and restored by OMNICHROMA composite (Tokuyama Dental, Tokyo, Japan) and polished with 2-step polishing system. Baseline color analysis was performed using VITA Easyshade V digital spectrophotometer, and another color analysis was carried out 24 hours after storage in distilled water. In-office bleaching was carried out, and color measurements were taken after bleaching and 2 weeks postbleaching. The data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 26.0 Windows version statistical software. Changes were considered statistically significant at P = 0.05. Results. ΔE value of OMNICHROMA restoration before and after restoration was 6.474, 3.529 before and after bleaching, and 3.651 two-weeks postbleaching. In-office bleaching was effective in bleaching the OMNICHROMA specimens as the restoration showed positive ΔL ∗ values, which indicated that the specimens were lighter in color after bleaching; however, the bleaching effect was not maintained after 2 weeks. Conclusion. OMNICHROMA universal shade composite resin restoration showed different color matching values with the adjacent enamel of class Vs. The material appeared lighter in shade postbleaching, and the color change was not maintained 2 weeks postbleaching.
Effect of two surface treatments and aging on color stability of repaired hybrid ceramic

Abstract:STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: However the repair of fractured ceramic restoration is the most reasonable and practical alternative treatment, the repair is a challenging clinical situation because after repair the color may change when restoration is aged Objective: This study was designed to evaluate effect of two surface treatments and aging on color stability of hybrid ceramic repaired with composite. Method: vita enamic ceramic blocks (14*14 mm) were sliced into discs with constant thickness 1mm using a low speed, high precision Isomet diamond saw 4000 . Specimens were aged in a water bath for 1-months at 37 °C before repair. Specimens were divided into two groups According to surface treatment, the first group (n=8) treated by 9% HF followed by application of silane coupling agent and universal bond and second group (n=8) treated by 9%HF followed by application of universal bond. Repair was performed by packing the composite repair material using a Split Teflon mold (1mm thickness) placed on treated the hybrid ceramic samples. After repair, the samples were thermocycled (5000 cycles: 5–55°C; cyclic). The repaired samples were immersed in coffee solution under the controlled temperature 37°C. Color stability was measured by VİTA Eas yshade Compact. Results: There was significant difference in color stability for repaired samples before and after aging and staining. The color changes of repaired samples in all groups were above the clinically acceptable value (ΔE ≥3.3). Conclusion: Based on the type of composite used in present study, there was perceptible color change in the repaired samples.
In Vitro Comparison of Optical Properties Between Single-Shade and Conventional Composite Resin Restorations

Abstract:Introduction: The recently developed single-shade composite resin (using the concept of structural coloring) is a promising option to eliminate the process and subjectivity of shade selection. However, current evidence of its performance is still insufficient. This study aimed to evaluate the color matching, color stability, and refractive index (RI) of single-shade restorations compared with conventional composite resin. Methods: This in vitro study was conducted on 48 extracted maxillary premolars. The teeth were sorted into three tooth shade groups (B2, A3, and A3.5). Each group included two subgroups based on the materials used: Omnichroma (OM; Tokuyama Dental, Tokyo, Japan) and Filtek Z350 (FT; 3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA). Buccal and lingual Class V round cavities were prepared and restored according to the randomly assigned subgroups, with the test single-shade material (OM) on one surface and the matching conventional control material (FT) of the proper shade on the other surface of each tooth. Color matching was evaluated by visual assessment and a spectrophotometer. All specimens were distributed into four staining groups and immersed in various staining beverages (black coffee, Arabic coffee, Coca-Cola, and distilled water) for four weeks. Color changes were assessed using a spectrophotometer. Four groups of disc-shaped specimens (single-shade, B2, A3, and A3.5) were fabricated to evaluate the RI using a refractometer. Statistical analyses were performed to compare the materials. Results: The mean value of the color difference (ΔE) of single-shade restorations was significantly higher than that of paired conventional restorations in all shade groups. The highest mean ΔE was in subgroup A3.5-OM (8.84 ± 2.39) and showed significantly less color matching than other OM subgroups (p=0.009). The visual assessment showed comparable and acceptable color matching in all subgroups except A3.5-OM (p=0.006). There was a significant color change after the staining test within and across staining groups, but the color change was comparable between the OM and FT subgroups. The RI of single-shade material was significantly higher than conventional material (p<0.05). Conclusion: The color matching of single-shade restorations was affected by tooth shade. Its color stability was influenced by various staining substances but was similar to conventional restorations.
Visual evaluation of the color adjustment of single-shade and group shade resin composites in restorations with different cavity configurations

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the influence of the tooth shade, type of resin composite and cavity configuration on the color adjustment of single-shade and group shade resin composites. Methods: Class I and V cavities were prepared in artificial acrylic mandibular right molars with different shades - A1, A2, A3, A3.5 and A4. Three single-shade (OMN, UNI, CHA) and two group shade (FIL, HAR) resin composites were evaluated. Seventy-five observers, including dentists, dental students and laypersons (n = 25), participated in the study. A psychophysical experiment based on visual assessments of the color matching between each tooth and each restoration was ranked from 0 (excellent match) to 4 (huge mismatch), and mean frequencies (%) were calculated. Visual color differences among composite materials and tooth shades were statistically tested (P < 0.05). Results: The results showed highest percentages of unacceptable color mismatches for class V compared to class I restorations, especially for more chromatic tooth shades (A3.5 and A4). The percentage of ratings of acceptability was higher for laypersons group. For class V, OMN presented significant difference only from UNI in tooth shades A1, A2, A3 and A4. However, for class I, OMN presented significant differences with CHA for A1, A2 and A4, and with HAR and FIL for A1. Conclusions: Class I resin composite restorations exhibit superior color matching than Class V, with lighter and low chroma tooth shades demonstrating better color adjustment. The color matching of both cavity configurations is comparable for single and group shade resin composites. Clinical significance: Cavity configuration and tooth shade may impact color matching of single and group shade resin composites. This study demonstrates superior color matching in class I configurations over class V for both single and group shade resin composites. Additionally, restorations placed in teeth with lighter shades exhibit more favorable color adjustment.

Abstract:SUMMARY The ELISA and an immunoblotting technique were used to study F38-type mycoplasmas – an important cause of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia – and a number of related mycoplasma species, subspecies, types or serogroups. Two-way ELISA cross-reactivity was demonstrated between five mycoplasmas, namely strain F38, Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides (LC strain), M. equigenilalium, M. primatum and bovine serogroup 7. In addition one-way cross-reactivity was demonstrated between F38 and each of the following mycoplasmas: M. mycoides subsp. mycoides (two SC strains), M. mycoides subsp. capri, and bovine serogroup L. F38 and M. capricolum did not cross-react. Immunoblot analysis, unlike ELISA, revealed that F38 and M. capricolum were closely related. At least four major protein antigens were shared between F38, M. mycoides subsp. mycoides (SC and LC strains), M. mycoides subsp. capri and bovine serogroup 7. The ELISA cross-reactions (above) shown by M. equigenitalium and M. primatum with each other, with F38 and with other mycoplasmas were not apparent by immunoblotting.

Abstract:Achieving color match between natural teeth and restorative materials is crucial in dentistry. Factors such as the light source, brightness, and opacity influence tooth color, determined by light absorption and scattering within the material. Advances in CAD/CAM systems have enhanced prosthodontic treatments, particularly with new temporary materials, but data on their color stability and masking ability remains limited. However, data on the color stability and masking ability of these CAD/CAM materials is limited. Telio® CAD-Temp and VITA CAD-Temp® blocks were cut into slices and polished. Composite resin specimens were prepared using a custom-designed metal resin former and light-cured. Samples were paired randomly and assigned to experimental groups based on base type and thickness (n = 30). Samples were stored in a controlled environment for 24 h before color evaluation using an EasyShade® V spectrophotometer. Color difference (ΔE) was calculated using L*, a*, and b* values. Statistical analyses included the Shapiro–Wilk test, Levene's test, and three-way ANOVA, with post-hoc comparisons using the Bonferroni method (α = 0.05). ΔE was classified according to perceptibility (PT = 1.2) and acceptability (AT = 2.7) values.

Abstract:Introduction. Universal single-shade composite resins are characterized by a property that enables the creation of restorations that mimic tooth structure to the extent possible with fewer shades of color. Objectives. This study aimed to instrumentally and visually evaluate the color correspondence of two single-shade composite resins in extracted human teeth multishade composite resins. Methods. Upper central incisors and upper and/or lower molars with intact buccal surfaces were selected. The study consisted of a control group (n = 20): Z250 XT (3M ESPE) (G1) multishade composite resin in colors A1 to A4, and a test group (n = 20) divided further into two equal groups, consisting of single-shade composite resin Omnichroma (Tokuyama Dental) (G2) and single-shade composite resin Vittra APS Unique from (FGM) (G3). Instrumental evaluation was performed using a spectrophotometer, and visual evaluation was performed by three observers. Descriptive measurements related to the differences in color obtained through instrumental means were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, wherein the means were compared using ANOVA, applying the Bonferroni post hoc test. Results. A statistically significant difference was observed among the groups (G1, G2, and G3) (ANOVA: p < 0.001 ). For the visual assessment, regardless of the assessment group, 77.49% of the teeth were within the acceptable color-match classification, with the single-shade resins showing better correspondence than the multishade resins. Conclusion. Single-shade composite resins showed different color-matching results when compared to multishade resins, both in spectrophotometry and visual evaluations. Clinical Significance. Single-shade composite resins simplify the shade-selection process and are promising materials for use in dental practice.

Abstract:Objectives: This in-vitro study digitally evaluates the color matching ability of a single-shaded resin composite and a single-translucency resin composite system placed in teeth with three different shades at two different cavity depths, and to compare both of them to a multi-shaded resin composite system. Methods: 90 extracted sound teeth were selected and their shade was recorded. Teeth were divided according to their shade into three groups (S1,S2 and S3). In each group, Class V cavities were prepared at 0.5 mm depth (Subgroup D1) for half of the teeth, while cavities in the other half were adjusted at 1.5 mm depth (Subgroup D2). Each subgroup was further divided into three classes according to the restorative material placed in the prepared cavities (M1, M2 and M3). Shade was recorded after placement and ΔE was calculated. Results: Single-shaded resin composite (M1) recorded the significant lowest ΔE values wih S1 followed by S2 and S3 respectively (P ≤ 0.05). Multi-shaded resin composite (M3), generally showed the best results with the three teeth shades compared to the other two materials. No significant differences were found at both cavity depths for all groups (P ≤ 0.05). Conclusions: The single-shaded resin composite showed more acceptable color matching at lighter teeth shades than at darker teeth shades. Multi-shaded resin composite showed superior color matching ability at the three different teeth shades. The selected cavity depths had no siginificant effect on the color matching ability of the different resin composite materials used.

Abstract:Liver transplant is associated with the induction of peripheral immune tolerance. Liver allografts are accepted spontaneously in most combinations of mismatch in major histocompatibility complex, without any requirements for immunosuppression. Liver nonparenchymal cells (especially dendritic cells and Kupffer cells), costimulatory pathways, and activated T-cell apoptosis may contribute to the induction of liver tolerance. Therefore, liver tolerance is an active process that includes T-cell activation, proliferation, infiltration of the allograft, and T-cell apoptosis. Liver dendritic cells may modulate the amount of alloreactive T cells in liver graft recipients by expressing the coinhibitory molecule programmed death-ligand 1 and the immunosuppressive enzyme indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase. Liver dendritic cells also may induce activated T-cell apoptosis and Foxp3+ regulatory T cells. Future studies may clarify the precise function of liver nonparenchymal cells, the interactions between programmed death-ligand 1 and other costimulatory signals, and the contribution of the liver microenvironment to the induction and expansion of Foxp 3 regulatory T cells.

Abstract:Nursing shortages and issues of fiscal accountability have compelled nurse executives to restructure nurses' work. Because proficiency in delegation is central to the success of redesigned patient-focused models of nursing care, nurses must change their behavior and delegate to perform more effectively. Using Lewin's field theory of change, the authors examined the delegation of tasks by registered nurses in acute care settings. A comprehensive review of the literature suggests that factors related to successful delegation have not been examined systematically. In this article, the authors provide information for use in future research on delegation.
Color difference of composite resins after cementation with different shades of resin luting cement

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color difference of nanohybrid and ormocer-based composite resins with different thicknesses when 4 different shades of resin luting cement were used. 56 disc specimens of each composite resin (Aelite aesthetic enamel, Ceram-X mono) with 0.5 and 1 mm thicknesses were fabricated. Baseline color measurements were performed using a clinical spectrophotometer. The specimens of each thicknesses of each resin were randomly divided into 4 groups according to the shades of resin luting cement (white/A1, yellow/universal/A3, transparent and white opaque) (n = 7). Mixed resin cement was applied onto the resin specimens using a Teflon mold in 0.1 mm thickness. Color measurements of cemented composite resin specimens were repeated and color difference (∆E) between baseline and after cementation measurements was calculated. ANOVA and Tukey’s test were used for statistical analysis. The opaque shade had significantly increased ∆E values as compared to the other shades (p < 0.05). For all shades except white opaque in both thicknesses, ∆E values of aelite aesthetic enamel were higher as compared to Ceram-X mono. There is no significant difference between 2 thicknesses for both resins in terms of ∆E values. The shade of resin cement and the type of the resin affected the final color; however, the thickness of composite resin had no influence on the final color of restoration. Selecting the shade of resin luting cement before cementation of indirect composite laminate restoration is important to achieve final color match.

Assessing color mismatch in single-shade composite resins for enamel replacement

Abstract:Statement of problem: Shade selection is a challenge in restorative dentistry. While single-shade composite resins may simplify this process, whether the color mismatch between this composite resin and the substrate is within acceptable levels to ensure successful outcomes is unclear. Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the influence of background and surrounding shade, thickness, and proximity to the surrounding on color mismatch when shaded and single-shade composite resins are used in the center of an enamel layer. Material and methods: Two-layer specimens mimicking dentin (the background) and enamel (the surrounding and center) were prepared. Two shades were used for the background and the surrounding layer (OA1/A1 and OA3/A3). At the Ø3-mm center, 2 single-shade composite resins were placed, Omnichroma (OM) and Admira Fusion x-tra (FU), and also shaded composite resins A1, WE, A3, and C2. For the OA1/A1 background and surrounding, shades A1 and WE served as positive controls, while the A3 and C2 were negative controls. For OA3/A3, these controls were reversed. Two enamel layer thicknesses were evaluated (0.5- and 1.0-mm). Reflectance measurements were made at 0.0, 1.0, 2.0, and 2.5 mm from the center. Color differences were calculated between those at 2.5 mm and at other distances (ΔE0, ΔE1, and ΔE2). Data analysis employed a 4-way repeated measure ANOVA with Bonferroni corrections for the pair-wise comparisons (α=.05). Results: Background and surrounding shade, central shade, distance, and thickness affected color mismatch (P<.05). For the OA1/A1 specimens, single-shade color mismatch values were found between both the positive and negative controls (P<.05). For the OA3/A3 specimens, the color mismatch did not differ significantly from that of negative controls (P>.05). No difference was found between ΔE0 and ΔE1, but each was distinct from ΔE2. Thickness did not affect the color mismatch of the single-shade composite resins (P<.05). Conclusions: Single-shade composite resins for enamel replacement showed higher color mismatches compared with positive controls.
Effects of Er,Cr:YSGG Laser Surface Treatments and Composites with Different Viscosities on the Repair Bond Strength of CAD/CAM Resin Nanoceramic

Abstract:This study aims to evaluate the repair micro-shear bond strength of the CAD/CAM resin nanoceramic block treated using four different surface treatments and composite resins of different viscosities. For the current study, 96 samples with dimensions of 14 × 12 × 2 mm were obtained from a CAD/CAM resin nanoceramic block (Cerasmart) with a low-speed precision cutting saw under water cooling. The relevant samples were randomly divided into four groups according to the surface treatment processes: grinding with diamond bur, aluminum oxide airborne-particle abrasion, long-pulse laser, and short-pulse laser. Following silane application, universal adhesive was applied to all surface-treated samples and cured with an LED for 10 s. The samples prepared for the repair procedure were divided into two subgroups (microhybrid composite and injectable composite) according to the viscosity of the repair material to be used (n = 12). After the repair procedure, care was taken to keep the samples in distilled water in an incubator at 37 °C for 24 h. The repair micro-shear bond strength values (μSBSs) of CAD/CAM resin nanoceramic-composite resin complexes were tested. In addition, randomly selected samples from each group were examined with a scanning electron microscope to evaluate the surface topography after both surface treatments and the micro-shear bond strength test. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni test. It was determined that the surface treatment preferred in the repair protocol significantly affected the μSBS value (p < 0.001). While the highest μSBS value was obtained with the short-pulse laser airradiation group, the lowest μSBS values were found in samples with long pulse laser irradiation. However, samples grinded with a bur and airborne-particle abrasion showed similar μSBS values (p > 0.05). The preferred composite viscosity in the repair procedure has a significant effect on the μSBS value (p < 0.001). However, the interaction between the surface treatment and the viscosity of the repair composite does not affect the μSBS values in a statistically significant way (p = 0.193). It may be recommended to clinicians to repair CAD/CAM resin nanoceramic restoration surfaces with injectable composites or after treatment with short-pulse lasers.

Abstract:This in vitro study aimed to investigate whether color differences in the stained cavity floor simulating recurrent caries can be detected using various restored resin composites. Artificial teeth were made with conventional resin composite (Estellite Sigma Quick A3; ET), and class V cavities were prepared. To simulate the color of caries, a dot was marked in the center of the cavity floor using four different magic pens. The cavities were filled with ET and two universal shade resin composites (UC, Omnichroma; OMI, Essentia Universal; ESS). For photographic analysis, a standard correction color chart was used. The color difference (ΔE00) between (i) the lab value at the center of the cavity and (ii) the average lab value at 1 mm mesial and distal to the center of the cavity was calculated. The data were statistically746o-way ANOVA (p < 0.05). For visual analysis, 25 dentists were asked to complete a questionnaire to determine whether the color differences were noticeable. In the photographic analysis, UC showed larger ΔE00 values than ET in all colors. Visual analysis revealed higher detection rates for UC than ET. Universal shade resin composite tends to reflect the color of the cavity more effectively than conventional resin composite.

Abstract:Objectives . To assess visually color-matching and blending-effect (BE) of a universal shade bulk-fill-resin-composite placed in resin-composite-models with different shades and cavity sizes and in natural teeth (extracted and patients’ teeth). Materials and Methods . Resin-composite-discs (10 mm × 1 mm) were prepared of universal shade composite and resin-composite of shades: A1, A2, A3, A3.5, and A4. Spectrophotometric-color-measurement was performed to calculate color-difference ( Δ E ) between the universal shade and shaded-resin-composites discs and determine their translucency-parameter (TP). Visual assessment was performed by seven normal-color-vision-observers to determine the color-matching between the universal shade and each shade, under Illuminant D65. Color-matching visual scoring (VS) values were expressed numerically (1–5): 1: mismatch/totally unacceptable, 2: Poor-Match/hardly acceptable, 3: Good-Match/acceptable, 4: Close-Match/small-difference, and 5: Exact-Match/no-color-difference. Occlusal cavities of different sizes were prepared in teeth-like resin-composite-models with shades A1, A2, A3, A3.5, and A4. The cavities were filled by the universal shade composite. The same scale was used to score color-matching between the fillings and composite-models. BE was calculated as difference in mean-visual-scores in models and that of discs. Extracted teeth with two different class I-cavity sizes as well as ten patients’ lower posterior molars with occlusal caries were prepared, filled by universal shade composite, and assessed similarly. Results . In models, the universal shade composite showed close matching in the different cavity sizes and surrounding shades ( 4 ≤ VS < 5 ) (BE = 0.6–2.9 in small cavities and 0.5–2.8 in large cavities). In extracted teeth, there was good-to-close color-matching (VS = 3.7–4.4 in small cavities, BE = 2.5–3.2) (VS = 3–3.5, BE = 1.8–2.3 in large cavities). In patients’ molars, the universal shade composite showed good-matching (VS = 3–3.3, BE = −0.9–2.1). Conclusions . Color-matching of universal shade resin-composite was satisfactory rather than perfect in patients’ teeth.

Abstract:This study aimed to compare color matching between single-shade composite resin-restored teeth with various pulp capping materials and the dentin surrounding the restoration through instrumental analysis and visual evaluation of the color difference. Fifty maxillary right central incisor acrylic resin teeth were prepared with standardized Class III cavities on the proximal surfaces. These teeth were divided into five groups: restored with single-shade composite resin only; Ultra-BlendTM plus followed by single-shade composite resin; TheraCal PTTM followed by single-shade composite resin; Endocem ® MTA premixed followed by single-shade composite resin; and Well-root PTTM followed by single-shade composite resin. The color difference (ΔE ab * ) between the restored area and the center of the resin teeth was measured using a spectrophotometer. No significant color difference was observed in groups restored with only single-shade composite resin, Ultra-BlendTM plus, and TheraCal PTTM. The visual evaluation revealed that Ultra-BlendTM plus exhibited the best color matching score, whereas the Endocem® MTA premixed and Well-root PTTM groups showed significantly lower color matching scores than the single-shade composite resin-only group. When opting for single-shade composite resin usage for anterior tooth restorations with the aim of reducing chair time, pulp capping materials UltraBlendTM plus and TheraCal PTTM provide esthetically pleasing results.
