Abstract:Sierra Leone is a highly endemic area for malaria, and the implementation of the National Malaria Strategic Plan (2016–2020) has reached its midpoint in 2018. To provide more specific guidance for interventions in the future, a household-based cross-sectional survey was conducted to elucidate the knowledge, awareness and practices regarding malaria and malarial control measures among the general public. Three communities (Grafton, Jui, and Kossoh) in the Western Area Rural District that were in close proximity to Sierra Leone's capital city of Freetown were included. Households were randomly selected and interviewed with a structured questionnaire covering malaria infection, diagnosis, treatment and prevention, as well as knowledge of malaria prevention. As a result, a total of 262 qualified questionnaires were included. The average cost for meals per day is ~30,000 Leones in each household. The rate of awareness, indicated by reporting having heard of malaria, was 98.1% (257/262), and 86.6% (227/262) of the respondents knew that mosquito bites are the main route of transmission. In addition, 80.9% (212/262) of the respondents sought health advice or treatment for the illness, and a similar percentage of respondents had been tested for malaria, mostly with rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs). A high demand for long-lasting insecticidal nets (72.1%) matched the serious shortage (61.8%, 162/262), and of the households that reported a lack of nets, 66 had children younger than 5 years old. In conclusion, public awareness of malaria prevention is high, based on this survey, although there was a limited use of preventive measures in these three communities and the malaria burden was still high. Therefore, the public's knowledge of malaria should be sustained and reinforced, and the distribution and use of malaria prevention measures should be promoted to supprt the achievement of the planned objectives.

Abstract:Background This study aimed to investigate the level of awareness of and factors associated with major infectious diseases in rural China and to provide the most recent baseline data for the prevention and control of these diseases. Methods This cross-sectional study was carried out in Zhejiang province between December 2010 and April 2011. Participants were recruited from 36 villages and interviewed by doctors from the community health service using a structured questionnaire. Results The study sample consisted of 36,377 subjects aged 15 to 80 years old. Study results showed that knowledge of HIV was adequate in 44.21% of rural residents; knowledge of TB was adequate in 52.66% of respondents; and knowledge of HBV was adequate in 60.18% of respondents. People in older age groups and with lower education levels were more likely to have low levels of awareness of these three infectious diseases. Participants in the farming industry had poorer awareness of HIV and HBV, while students and factory workers knew little of TB. The proportions of people reporting being fully satisfied with the control policies for HIV, TB and HBV were 37.70%, 34.25% and 36.12%, respectively. Conclusions The level of awareness of HIV, TB and HBV is still low among rural residents. Further national disease control plans for major infectious diseases should emphasise effective and comprehensive health education campaigns to increase public awareness of these diseases in rural areas of China.

Abstract:BackgroundPublic malaria health promotion is an integral part of the national malaria elimination programme, which was launched by the Chinese government in 2010. However, the public awareness of malaria needs to improve. This study aims to explore the determinants of public awareness of malaria.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted using stratified sampling method from June 2015 to March 2016. Bivariate logistic regression was performed to explore the association between predictors and malaria awareness in the sample population. The homogeneity of the interaction between group assignment and the degree of knowledge related to malaria among the subgroups was calculated by Cochran–Mantel–Haenszel test.ResultsCommunity media (including bulletin boards of village clinics or township hospitals, newspapers, exercise books, shopping bags, aprons, disposable cups, leaflets and banner advertisements) was the most prominent determinant influencing public awareness of malaria. The probability of having high-degree of knowledge about malaria among participants who received malaria-related information from community media were 3.99 times greater than those who did not (odds ratio 3.99, 95 % confidence interval 3.04–5.25, p < 0.001). Moreover, socio-demographic predictors including age, distance to township hospital, endemic county type, history of suffering from malaria, electronic media, self-assessed household income level, educational attainment and the knowledge about malaria were clearly associated with public awareness of malaria.ConclusionsCommunity media played the most important role in public awareness of malaria. However, only a few participants have received malaria knowledge through this media. It suggests that community media was an effective publicity material, which should expand its coverage. Malaria health promotion campaign needs to be aligned with target populations, in particular, people who are under 45 years old and residents (especially in type-3 counties) in remote areas.

Use of Bed Nets and Factors That Influence Bed Net Use among Jinuo Ethnic Minority in Southern China

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) are an integral part of vector control recommendations for malaria elimination in China. This study investigated the extent to which bed nets were used and which factors influence bed net use among Jinuo Ethnic Minority in China-Myanmar-Laos border areas.METHODS AND FINDINGS: This study combined a quantitative household questionnaire survey and qualitative semi-structured in-depth interviews (SDI). Questionnaires were administered to 352 heads of households. SDIs were given to 20 key informants. The bed net to person ratio was 1∶2.1 (i.e., nearly one net for every two people), however only 169 (48.0%) households owned at least one net and 623 (47.2%) residents slept under bed nets the prior night. The percentages of residents who regularly slept under nets (RSUN) and slept under nets the prior night (SUNPN) were similar (48.0% vs. 47.2%, P>0.05), however the percentage correct use of nets (CUN) was significantly lower (34.5%, P<0.0001). The annual cash income per person (ACIP) was an independent factor that influenced bed net use (P<0.0001), where families with an ACIP of CNY10000 or more were much more likely to use nets. House type was strongly associated with bed net use (OR: 4.71, 95% CI: 2.81, 7.91; P<0.0001), where those with traditional wood walls and terracotta roofs were significantly more likely to use nets, and the head of household's knowledge was an independent factor (OR: 5.04, 95% CI: 2.72, 9.35; P<0.0001), where those who knew bed nets prevent malaria were significantly more likely to use nets too.CONCLUSIONS: High bed net availability does not necessarily mean higher coverage or bed net use. Household income, house type and knowledge of the ability of bed nets to prevent malaria are all independent factors that influence bed net use among Jinuo Ethnic Minority.

Abstract:Background: Strengthening the mosquito control measures undertaken by residents of an area where dengue fever is present can significantly decrease the spread of this disease. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of the source of information and knowledge of dengue fever on the mosquito control behavior of residents of areas at high risk of this disease to determine effective ways of enhancing this behavior. Methods: A survey was conducted via face-to-face interviews or questionnaires between March and May 2021 in three regions of the province of Yunnan, China. The survey included basic information about the respondents, the source(s) of their dengue fever information, the level of their dengue fever knowledge, and the measures they had implemented to control mosquitoes. Principal component analysis was used to extract the main components of the sources of information. Correlation analysis and structural equation analysis were used to explore the impact of the sources of information and residents' dengue fever knowledge on their mosquito control behavior. Results: Publicity achieved through mass media, including official WeChat accounts, magazines/newspapers, poster leaflets, television/radio and the Internet, had a direct effect on dengue fever knowledge and mosquito control behavior, and indirectly affected mosquito control behavior through dengue fever knowledge. Organized publicity campaigns, including information provided by medical staff and through community publicity, had a direct effect on dengue fever knowledge and indirectly affected mosquito control behavior through dengue fever knowledge. The residents' level of dengue fever knowledge had a significant, positive, direct effect on their mosquito control behavior. Conclusions: Mosquito control is an important measure for the prevention and control of outbreaks of dengue fever. An effective source of information can improve the level of dengue fever knowledge among residents and thus enhance their mosquito control behavior.

Abstract:Background: In China, mosquito-borne diseases are most common in the sub-tropical area of Yunnan province. The objective of this study was to examine behaviors related to mosquito-borne diseases in different ethnic minority groups and different socioeconomic groups of people living in this region. Methods: A stratified two-stage cluster sampling technique with probability proportional to size was used in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan. Twelve villages were used to recruit adult (≥18 years old) and eight schools were used for children (<18 years old). A questionnaire on behaviors and environment variables related to mosquito-borne diseases was devised. Results: Multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) grouped 20 behaviors into three domains, namely, environmental condition, bed net use behaviors, and repellent use behaviors, respectively. The Han ethnicity had the lowest odds of rearing pigs, their odds being significantly lower than those of Yi and Yao. For bed net use, Dai and other ethnic minority groups were less likely to use bed nets compared to Yi and Yao. The odds of repellent use in the Han ethnicity was lower than in Yi, but higher than in Dai. The Dai group was the most likely ethnicity to use repellents. Farmers were at a higher risk for pig rearing and not using repellents. Education of less than primary school held the lowest odds of pig rearing. Those with low income were at a higher risk for not using bed nets and repellent except in pig rearing. Those with a small family size were at a lower risk for pig rearing. Conclusion: Different ethnic and socioeconomic groups in the study areas require different specific emphases for the prevention of mosquito-borne diseases.

[The Role of Village Doctors and Their Influence Factors in Malaria Control].

Abstract:AIM:To consolidate the acquired achievements of malaria control and to work out an effective programme for training the village doctors in Yibin District.METHODS:A stratified sampling was done at random with sampling 27 village medical stations and 67 village doctors from 9 townships of 3 counties. A questionnaire concerning malaria control knowledge of the village doctors and the quality of their carrying out antimalaria measures was used in this study.RESULTS:The accuracy rate of answering the questionnaire among the village doctors was 79.3%, being higher in the village doctors receiving antimalaria training than in those not receiving antimalaria training. 82.5% of the doctors could correctly complete the tasks of controlling malaria. In addition, the quality of malaria control implementing in areas where the doctors and their stations had timely got investment funds, preferential policy, system of reward and subsidy from local governments, was superior to those areas where the doctors and their stations had not received those on time. 91.9% of the trained doctors completed the tasks of controlling malaria better than untrained ones.CONCLUSION:Greater efforts should be made to give a systematic training to village doctors on the knowledge and technique of malaria control, and to strengthen management and support in order to help these doctors accomplishing the tasks of malaria control better.
Spatiotemporal epidemic characteristics and risk factor analysis of malaria in Yunnan Province, China

Abstract:BackgroundMalaria remains an important public health concern in China and is particularly serious in Yunnan, a China’s provincial region of high malaria burden with an incidence of 1.79/105 in 2012. This study aims to examine the epidemiologic profile and spatiotemporal aspects of epidemics of malaria, and to examine risk factors which may influence malaria epidemics in Yunnan Province.MethodsThe data of malaria cases in 2012 in 125 counties of Yunnan Province was used in this research. The epidemical characteristics of cases were revealed, and time and space clusters of malaria were detected by applying scan statistics method. In addition, we applied the geographically weighted regression (GWR) model in identifying underlying risk factors.ResultsThere was a total of 821 cases of malaria, and male patients accounted for 83.9% (689) of the total cases. The incidence in the group aged 20–30 years was the highest, at 3.00/105. The majority (84.1%) of malaria cases occurred in farmers and migrant workers, according to occupation statistics. On a space-time basis, epidemics of malaria of varying severity occurred in the summer and autumn months, and the high risk regions were mainly distributed in the southwest counties. Annual average temperature, annual cumulative rainfall, rice yield per square kilometer and proportion of rural employees mainly showed a positive association with the malaria incidence rate, according to the GWR model.ConclusionsMalaria continues to be one of serious public health issues in Yunnan Province, especially in border counties in southwestern Yunnan. Temperature, precipitation, rice cultivation and proportion of rural employees were positively associated with malaria incidence. Individuals, and disease prevention and control departments, should implement more stringent preventative strategies in locations with hot and humid environmental conditions to control malaria.

Risk factors associated with malaria infection along China-Myanmar border: a case-control study

Abstract:Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) has certificated China malaria free, but imported malaria is a continuous challenge in preventing reintroduction of malaria in the border area of China. Understanding risk factors of malaria along China-Myanmar border is benefit for preventing reintroduction of malaria in China and achieving the WHO's malaria elimination goal in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). Methods: This is a case-control study with one malaria case matched to two controls, in which cases were microscopy-confirmed malaria patients and controls were feverish people with microscopy-excluded malaria. A matched logistic regression analysis (LRA) was used to identify risk factors associated with malaria infection. Results: From May 2016 through October 2017, the study recruited 223 malaria cases (152 in China and 71 in Myanmar) and 446 controls (304 in China and 142 in Myanmar). All the 152 cases recruited in China were imported malaria. Independent factors associated with malaria infection were overnight out of home in one month prior to attendance of health facilities (adjusted odd ratio [AOR] 13.37, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 6.32-28.28, P < 0.0001), staying overnight in rural lowland and foothill (AOR 2.73, 95% CI: 1.45-5.14, P = 0.0019), staying overnight at altitude < 500 m (AOR 5.66, 95% CI: 3.01-10.71, P < 0.0001) and streamlets ≤ 100 m (AOR9.98, 95% CI: 4.96-20.09, P < 0.0001) in the border areas of Myanmar; and people lacking of knowledge of malaria transmission (AOR 2.17, 95% CI: 1.42-3.32, P = 0.0004). Conclusions: Malaria transmission is highly focalized in lowland and foothill in the border areas of Myanmar. The risk factors associated with malaria infection are overnight staying out of home, at low altitude areas, proximity to streamlets and lack of knowledge of malaria transmission. To prevent reintroduction of malaria transmission in China and achieve the WHO goal of malaria elimination in the GMS, cross-border collaboration is continuously necessary, and health education is sorely needed for people in China to maintain their malaria knowledge and vigilance, and in Myanmar to improve their ability of personal protection.
Malaria Prevent Knowledge and Its Influencing Factors among Travelers to Africa

Abstract:Objective To know malaria prevent knowledge situation and analyze influencing factors among travelers who are leaving Beijing for Africa, which will provide references for malaria prevention and control among these travelers. Methods A cluster sampling method was conducted to select all travelers to Africa in 2013 June to July at the Beijing International Travel Health Care Center. A self-designed questionnaire investigation was conducted. Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors such as age, household registration, province of residence, education level, the purpose of going abroad and whether they know malaria knowledge before or not. Results Among all the 515 questionnaires, there were 458 valid questionnaires, and the effective rate was 88.93%(458/515). The correct rate of questions about malaria knowledge was 72.93%. But correct rate of questions about DEET was the 43.0%. Logistic regression analysis showed that age, household registration, learning malaria knowledge before were related to the passing rate of malaria knowledge. About the passing rate of malaria knowledge, travelers who were more than 50 years old was lower than less than 29 years old(OR=0.331, P0.05), urban residents is higher than rural residents(OR=2.715, P0.05),and travelers who learned malaria knowledge before was higher than never hear about it(OR=6.128, P0.05). Conclusion Rural residents and travelers more than 50 years old need to learn more malaria knowledge. We should perform health education activities pointedly to these travelers.
Knowledge, attitudes, and practices on malaria prevention among Chinese international travelers

Abstract:Background: To address the lack of understanding in malaria prevention among Chinese international travelers, we have conducted knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) study in five different Chinese geographic areas. This survey represents one part of the background information needed to analyze imported malaria. Methods: Standardized questionnaires were distributed to Chinese international travelers in departure lounges at international airports in Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, and Nanjing. The data were entered into the Epidata 3.1 (Jens M. Lauritsen, Odense, Denmark) and analyzed by the SPSS 12.0 statistical package (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: Overall 2,495 completed questionnaires were collected from departing Chinese passengers; 1,573 were contributed by travelers who were going to malaria risk countries. More than half of all travelers spent less than 7 days to organize their trip abroad. Pre-travel medical advice was sought by 998 travelers (40.0%), 65.1% of them did so for 1-7 days before departure. Only 4.0% travelers received their knowledge from travel health providers. Among 389 travelers who were going to high malaria risk countries, only 18.0% realized that there is a high malaria risk in sub-Saharan Africa. Most travelers going to risk areas knew about personal protection measures against mosquito bites, but only 21.4% and 12.1% carried mosquito repellents or insecticides, respectively. Only 18.7% of the 1,573 potentially exposed travelers carried malaria tablets, all of them for self-treatment, none for prophylaxis. Conclusion: KAP about malaria among exposed Chinese travelers is far from satisfactory. To reduce the rate of imported malaria, specific educational tools should be developed for those at high risk to make them understand and become compliant with chemoprophylaxis.
Risk Assessment of Malaria in Land Border Regions of China in the Context of Malaria Elimination.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Cross-border malaria transmission poses a challenge for countries to achieve and maintain malaria elimination. Because of a dramatic increase of cross-border population movement between China and 14 neighbouring countries, the malaria epidemic risk in China's land border regions needs to be understood.METHODS:In this study, individual case-based epidemiological data on malaria in the 136 counties of China with international land borders, from 2011 to 2014, were extracted from the National Infectious Disease Information System. The Plasmodium species, seasonality, spatiotemporal distribution and changing features of imported and indigenous cases were analysed using descriptive spatial and temporal methods.RESULTS:A total of 1948 malaria cases were reported, with 1406 (72.2%) imported cases and 542 (27.8%) indigenous cases. Plasmodium vivax is the predominant species, with 1536 malaria cases occurrence (78.9%), following by Plasmodium falciparum (361 cases, 18.5%), and the others (51 cases, 2.6%). The magnitude and geographic distribution of malaria in land border counties shrunk sharply during the elimination period. Imported malaria cases were with a peak of 546 cases in 2011, decreasing yearly in the following years. The number of counties with imported cases decreased from 28 counties in 2011 to 26 counties in 2014. Indigenous malaria cases presented a markedly decreasing trend, with 319 indigenous cases in 2011 reducing to only 33 indigenous cases in 2014. The number of counties with indigenous cases reduced from 26 counties in 2011 to 10 counties in 2014. However, several bordering counties of Yunnan province adjacent to Myanmar reported indigenous malaria cases in the four consecutive years from 2011 to 2014.CONCLUSIONS:The scale and extent of malaria occurrence in the international land border counties of China decreased dramatically during the elimination period. However, several high-risk counties, especially along the China-Myanmar border, still face a persistent risk of malaria introduction and transmission. The study emphasizes the importance and urgency of cross-border cooperation between neighbouring countries to jointly face malaria threats to elimination goals.

Abstract:Objective: To make an epidemiological investigation on malaria in Motuo County, Linzhi Prefecture of Tibet. Methods: In July of the year 2006, the following activities were conducted in 2 selected villages from each of the three townships, i.e., Motuo, Dexing and Beibeng: malaria history survey among inhabitants in recent 2 years; collection of blood samples of inhabitants for examining malaria parasites, IFAT and detecting G6PD, respectively; mosquito collection in human dwellings and cattle shelters at night and various resting sites at day-time; mosquito collection by outdoor human baiting capture; classification and composition calculation of mosquito species and man biting rates; ELISA for detecting sporozoite infection of Anopheles. Results: The mean rate of two-year malaria history was 8.98% (118/1314) and the parasite rate was 3.13% (38/1216, all P. vivax) in the inhabitants. The parasite positive rate among the feverish patients was 7.14% (3/42). IFAT revealed a malaria antibody rate of 40.24% (472/1173). The G6PD deficiency rate was 1.74% (21/1208). Five hundred and thirteen anopheline mosquitoes were caught. They were An. maculatus (474) which occupied 92.4% (474/513), An. peditaeniatus (35), An. kochi (3) and An. sinensis (1). The mean indoor density of An. maculatus was 4.75/night in human houses, and 69.5/night in cattle shelters. The outdoor human biting rate was 22.75/half-night/person, and the sporozoite rate of An. maculatus in anopheline saliva glands was 0 by ELISA. Conclusion: Motuo County is an endemic area of vivax malaria with An. maculatus as the potential vector.
The Prevalence and Factors Associated with Utilisation of Malaria Preventive Measures among Long Distance Travellers at Maunyamo Harbour in Mongu, Western Province of Zambia. A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Introduction: Malaria is a significant public health concern in Zambia. Travelling is associated with exposure to different strains of malaria parasites whilst the use of preventive measures is not well documented among Zambia travellers. The Barotse flood plains in the upper Zambezi region with its swampy areas play a significant role in malaria transmission in the Western Province of Zambia. This study assessed the prevalence and factors associated with the utilisation of malaria preventive measures among long-distance travellers at Maunyamo harbour in Mongu district of Western Province. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study design which targeted long-distance travellers from the Barotse flood plains who come to Mongu the capital and central business hub of Western Province. A sample size of 171 participants was selected using simple random sampling. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire with closed questions. Data was summarised using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentages, and cross-tabulations with comparisons using Chi-Square or Fisher's Exact test. Further, associations between the outcome variable and dependent variables were tested using univariate and multivariable logistic regression. A P-value of 0.05 was significant. Results: A total of 171 respondents were included in the study, males 50.9% (87/171) and females 49.1% (84/171) were equally represented. A majority 74% (126/171) of participants were aware of malaria preventive measures, however, few actually used the conventional preventive measures such as mosquito repellents (43%), ITNs (19%), IRS (12%), and mosquito coils (5%) while a sizable number used unconventional means such as cutting and burning shrubs (18%). Factors associated with the use of conventional preventive measures included awareness of mosquito repellents as a preventive measure aOR 1.97 (P value < 0.001), whilst the younger age group of 21 to 25 years aOR 0.21 (P value 0.022) were significantly associated with less use of preventive measures compared to those aged 26 years and older. Factors such as sex, education levels and duration in business were not statistically significant. Conclusion: Awareness of malaria preventive measures among long-distance travellers was relatively high but utilisation was much lower indicating a mismatch between knowledge and utilisation. Awareness of specific preventive measures such as mosquito repellents was associated with a higher utilisation rate whilst the younger age group was associated with lower utilisation. Socioeconomic factors like sex, education and duration were not statistically significant.

Abstract:Objective: To introduce the application of the network training on clinicians' knowledge of malaria diagnosis and treatment in Yunnan Province, and evaluate its effect. Methods: Through the platform Yiboshi (www.yiboshi.com), the medical and health personnel at the units of provincial, prefectural, county levels and 25 townships of 25 border counties were trained on the knowledge of malaria diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control, and the effects were evaluated by examinations, questionnaires and interviews. Results: Totally 7 152 participants were trained, the average participation, completion and pass rates of the training were 95.26%, 98.55% and 97.30%, respectively. The trainees mainly learned malaria control knowledge from 3 aspects, namely policy of malaria elimination, malaria epidemiology, malaria diagnosis and treatment. The questionnaires showed that 95.94% of the participants considered that their theoretical and technical levels improved, 97.30% were interested in the training content, 93.24% recognized the arrangement of the training time was reasonable, and 91.89% were satisfied with the service of the platform. Conclusions: The network training on knowledge of malaria diagnosis and treatment in Yunnan Province has achieved good effect. The network training meets the need of training a large number of clinicians in the malaria elimination and post-elimination stage.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: Families' perceptions, beliefs, and attitudes about malaria causation, symptom identification, treatment of malaria, and prevention are often overlooked in malaria control efforts. This study was conducted to understand these issues, which can be an important step towards developing strategies, aimed at controlling malaria.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A community based descriptive cross-sectional study in four villages: Danwarai, Gehuru, Jiga, and Kashin Zama of Aliero local government area in Kebbi Sate, in northern Nigeria. Two hundred household were randomly selected and interviewed using standardized questionnaire.RESULTS: Knowledge of the role of mosquitoes in malaria transmission (11.8%) and cause of malaria (9.6%) was observed to be low among the study population. Comprehensive knowledge about malaria prevention measures was high (90%), but not reflecting in their practice (16%). They have good knowledge of mosquito behavior (breeding areas (64.5%), resting places (70%) and biting time (81%)). Seeking hospital care for a febrile child was a good practice (68.5%) observed. Attitudes regarding the best antimalarial therapy was limited (56.7%) to chloroquine.CONCLUSIONS: Misconceptions about malaria transmission and its cause still exist. Knowledge about preventive measures does not necessarily translate into improvement in practices. There is a need for targeted educational programs to increase the communities' efforts to develop desirable attitude and practices regarding malaria and their participation for malaria control.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the knowledge and behavior of Chinese Peacekeepers to Liberia on malaria prevention,and analyze influencing factors of people's knowledge on malaria and thus provide evidence for further health education to Chinese Peacekeepers.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted to measure Peacekeepers' knowledge and behavior about malaria prevention.The Chinese Peacekeepers getting vaccination at Beijing International Travel Healthcare Center in 2013 took part in the survey.Results Most peacekeepers knew that mosquito were the major vector of malaria,while only 76.65％ and 53.30％ of them recognized the importance of emergency anti-malaria drugs and DEET repellents,respectively.Peacekeepers that had been to Africa have better knowledge of malaria prevention than those travelling to Africa for the first time.Most people (90.75％) chose long-lasting mosquito nets as first prevention abroad,while least people (62.56％) chose residual spraying of insecticides indoor.Conclusion The health education and training programs of malaria need to be strengthened among peacekeepers that go to Africa for the first time.More efforts should be put on the peacekeeping camp cleaning and various malaria prevention measures.
