Abstract:The incidence and mortality rate of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has changed in recent years. Our goal is to determine the epidemiological pattern of NPC to help policymakers allocate limited medical resources. Detailed information about NPC from 2009 to 2019 was collected from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 database. Age-standardized rates (ASRs) and corresponding estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were calculated to assess NPC’s incidence and mortality trends. Globally, there was a consistent increase in the NPC incidence cases from 2009 to 2019 (from 121.65 × 103 cases in 2009 to 176.50 × 103 cases in 2019, increasing by 45.09%). The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of NPC increased from 1.81 in 2009 to 2.12 in 2019 (EAPC = 1.59, 95% CI 1.36–1.81). On the contrary, the mortality of NPC showed a downward trend (ASDR: 0.93 in 2009 and 0.86 in 2019; EAPC = − 0.63, 95% CI − 0.78 to − 0.48), and it was negatively correlated with the social demographic index (SDI) in most regions. Both incidence and mortality rates of high-incidence territories tended to be stable or decline. Males had significantly higher incidence and mortality of NPC than females. The number of patients with onset age greater than 50 years old accounted for the highest proportion. We found that smoking, occupational exposure to formaldehyde, and alcohol use were the main risk factors for NPC-related mortality. Globally, the incidence rate of NPC has been slightly increasing, while the mortality and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) have been decreasing. NPC burden in high-middle and middle SDI areas was the heaviest. The current prevention strategy should be repositioned, and some countries should formulate more targeted approaches to reduce the current burden of NPC.

Abstract:To identify the top 100 most impactful articles in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).Articles on NPC from 1970 to 2018 were retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS). These articles were ranked in descending order based on the number of times they were cited, and all titles and abstracts were screened to identify the top 100 most-cited articles.The earliest and most recent articles were published in 1971 and 2016, respectively. The most prolific decade was the 2000s, with 51 articles published. The highest citation count reached 1223 and the lowest was 155. Thirty-four journals contributed to the 100 articles, with the International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics contributing the most articles (n=16). Notable contribution origins were Hong Kong (n=34), the United States (n=26), and China (mainland, n=12). The top three contributors were Chan ATC, Lee AWM, and Lo KW who were from Hong Kong. The types of articles included basic research (n=50), clinical research (n=36), and reviews (n=14).This study identified the top 100 most impactful articles in NPC and stressed the multidisciplinary and multimodal nature of NPC management. Understanding historical articles may guide future NPC study.

Abstract:Background: To identify the 100 most-cited papers that have contributed to the understanding and treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).Methods: We searched the NPC-related papers between 2000 and 2019 using the Web of Science database on October 12, 2022. Papers were identified in descending order according to the number of citations. The top 100 papers were analyzed.Results: These 100 most cited papers on NPC have been cited for a total of 35,273 times, with a median number of citations of 281 times. There were 84 research papers and 16 review papers. The Journal of Clinical Oncology (n=17), International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics (n=13), and Cancer Research (n=9) published the most papers. Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention, Lancet, Cancer Cell, Molecular Cancer, and the New England Journal of Medicine had the largest average citations per paper. China contributed the most papers (n=71), followed by USA (n=13), Singapore (n=4) and, France (n=4). There were 55 clinical research papers and 29 laboratory research papers. Intensity-modulated radiation therapy technology (n=13), concurrent chemoradiotherapy (n=9), and neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (n=5) were the top three research topics. Epstein-Barr virus-related genes (n=9) and noncoding RNA (n=8) were the research domains in laboratory research papers. The top three contributors were Jun Ma (n=9), Anthony T C Chan (n=8), and Anne Wing-Mui Lee (n=6).Conclusions: This study provides an overview of the major areas of interest in the field of NPC with bibliometric analyses. This analysis recognizes some important contributions in the field of NPC and stimulates future investigations in the scientific community.

Abstract:Background: Radiotherapy, as the main treatment method for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), has evolved over time, but there has been no bibliometric study on NPC radiotherapy to date. In our study, the scientific achievements of NPC radiotherapy around the world were evaluated by bibliometric analyses, and the previous research hotspots and future trends are described. Methods: Original articles related to NPC radiotherapy were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection. To identify research hotspots and future trends, countries/regions, institutions, journals, references, authors, and keywords were evaluated and visualized by Excel, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace. Results: From 1959 to 2022, 7139 original articles were collected. The annual publications showed an increasing trend, especially after 2011. China had the most publications (n = 3719, 52.09 %). Sun Yat-sen University has the most publications and citations among institutions. Jun Ma is most productive and SR Baker has the highest co-cited centrality. International Journal of Radiation Oncology-Biology-Physics is the core journal, with most publications, citations and co-citations. Analysis of keywords showed intensity-modulated radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy were the main keywords, and multicenter showed the strongest burst. Conclusion: NPC radiotherapy has attracted increasing attention, and precision and artificial intelligence may be the future trends in this field.

Abstract:Immunotherapy is a promising strategy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), a common and aggressive malignancy with poor prognosis. However, the literature lacks a comprehensive and objective overview of the current research status and trends of immunotherapy-related fields in NPC. We performed a bibliometric analysis of 513 original articles and reviews in English on immunotherapy for NPC from the Web of Science Core Collection database, using CiteSpace and Bibliometrix software tools. We visualized the development trend of publications, the distribution of countries/regions, the co-occurrence of keywords, the collaboration and citation of authors, the citation of journals, the evolution of topics, and the thematic map. We found that the publication volume increased sharply after 2017, with China as the main contributor and leader, the US as an important partner, and the Netherlands as a potential innovator. The research focused on immune checkpoint inhibitors and cell therapy, which were also the hotspots of clinical trials. Tumor microenvironment, immune infiltration, multicenter studies, and novel immunotherapy were the frontier topics and the key challenges for future research. CD137l-DC, lymphoma, and chimeric antigen receptor were emerging topics with good prospects. Our study provides a valuable insight into the research status and trends of immunotherapy for NPC, which may guide future research directions and clinical applications.

Abstract:Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the most common malignant tumors, and stages III and IV are frequently diagnosed. In recent years, immunotherapy has achieved remarkable results in recurrent/metastatic NPC, and many studies related to immunotherapy for NPC have been published. However, to date, no relevant bibliometric studies have been published. The trends and research focus on NPC immunotherapy are analyzed in this study through bibliometric analysis, which is conducive to better understanding the status quo and future trends of immunotherapy for NPC. The Web of Science Core Collection was used to collect literature on NPC immunotherapy. These publications were analyzed using bibliometric methods from the aspects of country/region, institution, author (co-cited author), journal (co-cited journal), references, and keywords to determine the research focus and trends in the field. A total of 510 English studies were published between January 1, 2000 and September 1, 2023. The number of articles published increased rapidly in 2016. China ranked first in the number of publications (n = 254), followed by the United States (n = 127). Sun Yat-sen University had the largest number of publications (n = 74). In terms of authors, Comoli P is the most cited author among the co-cited authors. The journal publishing the largest number of studies on NPC immunotherapy is Frontiers in Oncology (impact factor (2022) = 4.7). Five of the top 10 highly cited publications came from China. Keyword analysis reveals that infiltrating lymphocytes, PD-L1, and the tumor microenvironment are recent research focuses on nasopharyngeal cancer immunotherapy. Immunotherapy research for nasopharyngeal cancer is a recent trend. Nasopharyngeal cancer immunotherapy research has mainly focused on immune checkpoint inhibitors and the tumor microenvironment. Notably, China has made significant contributions to this field.

Long-term Trends in the Burden of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in China: A Comprehensive Analysis from 1990 to 2021 and Projections to 2030 Based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021

Abstract:BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a significant public health issue in China, with distinctive epidemiological characteristics and evolving trends. This study aims to analyze long-term trends in NPC burden from 1990 to 2021 and provide projections. MATERIALS AND METHODS:Data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database (1990-2021) was utilized to evaluate NPC metrics, including incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Joinpoint regression identified significant changes over time. Age-period-cohort (APC) analyses assessed the effects of age, period, and cohort. A decomposition analysis identified factors influencing changes in NPC incidence, prevalence, and DALYs. Projections were made for future trends up to 2030. RESULTS:In 2021, NPC significantly impacted China, with males experiencing higher incidence (5.16 per 100,000) and mortality rates (2.32 per 100,000) than females. NPC prevalence was 342,477 cases, with males accounting for 260,164. DALYs totaled 982,657, predominantly affecting males. From 1990 to 2021, the age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) in China decreased from 4.64 to 3.42 per 100,000, while globally it declined from 1.74 to 1.38 per 100,000. Between 1990 and 2021, trends showed an initial decline in ASIR and age-standardized prevalence rate (ASPR), followed by a steady increase from 2006 onwards, with males experiencing more significant rises. Mortality rates showed a general downward trend, yet males remained disproportionately affected. Comparative global data indicated that while NPC metrics are declining worldwide, the burden remains higher in China. Decomposition analysis highlighted aging and population growth as major contributors to the NPC burden. Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) projections indicated a continuing rise in age-standardized incidence and prevalence rates for both males and females up to 2030. CONCLUSIONS:The burden of NPC in China remains significant, particularly among the male population. Despite declining mortality rates, the increasing prevalence suggests that more people are living with NPC. Targeted public health interventions are urgently needed to address these gender-specific trends and reduce the disease burden.

Abstract:As a malignant tumor type, nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is characterized by distinct geographical, ethnic and genetic differences; presenting a major threat to human health in many countries, especially in Southern China. At present, no accurate and effective methods are available for the early diagnosis, efficacious evaluation or prognosis prediction for NPC. As such, a large number of patients have locoregionally advanced NPC at the time of initial diagnosis. Many patients show toxic reactions to overtreatment and have risks of cancer recurrence and distant metastasis owing to insufficient treatment. To solve these clinical problems, high-throughput '-omics' technologies are being used to screen and identify specific molecular biomarkers for NPC. Because of the lack of comprehensive descriptions regarding NPC biomarkers, the present study summarized the research progress that has been made in recent years to discover NPC biomarkers, highlighting the existing problems that require exploration. In view of the lack of authoritative reports at present, study design factors that affect the screening of biomarkers are also discussed here and prospects for future research are proposed to provide references for follow-up studies of NPC biomarkers.

Thyroid Nodules: Emerging trends in Detection and Visualization based on Citespace

Abstract:Background: Thyroid nodule (TN) is a highly prevalent clinical endocrine disease. Many countries have formed guidelines on the prevention and treatment of TNs based on extensive research. However, there is a scarcity of TN-related literature based on bibliometrics. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the scientific achievements and progress of TN research from a global perspective by investigating the literature for 20 years through bibliometrics. Methods: We searched the literature on TN in the core collection of the Web of Science database from 2002 to 2021 and used the Citespace software to analyze the co-authorship, co-citation, and co-occurrence of countries, institutions, authors, keywords, and co-cited literature. Results: We retrieved 12319 documents related to TNs. The literature on TN has been growing since 2002. The United States has contributed the largest proportion of TN papers (20.64%), followed by China, Italy, and South Korea. The United States ranked first in terms of centrality (0.38). Haugen BR, Gharib H, and Cibas ES are the top three most cited authors. The papers published in Thyroid were cited most frequently (7952 times). The most prominent keywords were management, cancer, fine needle aspiration, diagnosis, malignant tumor, thyroid cancer, ultrasound, biopsy, benign, surgery, ablation, and cytology. All keywords could be divided into three categories: diagnosis stratification, treatment, and cancer. As far as potential hot spots are concerned, the keywords that have recently burst strongly and are still continuing are: "Association Guideline" (2018-2021), "Radiofrequency Ablation" (2017-2021), "Classification" (2019-2021), and "Data System" (2017-2021). Conclusion: Based on the current trends, the number of publications on TN will continue to increase. The United States is the most active contributor to research in this field. Previous literature focused on stratification, cancer, surgery, and ablation, and there were different opinions on the stratification of diagnosis. There were relatively few studies on pathogenesis and treatment using medicine. More focus will be placed on association guidelines, radiofrequency ablation, classification, and data system, which may be the next popular topics in TNs research.

Abstract:The past three decades have borne witness to many advances in the understanding of the molecular biology and treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), an Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)-associated cancer endemic to southern China, southeast Asia and north Africa. In this Review, we provide a comprehensive, interdisciplinary overview of key research findings regarding NPC pathogenesis, treatment, screening and biomarker development. We describe how technological advances have led to the advent of proton therapy and other contemporary radiotherapy approaches, and emphasize the relentless efforts to identify the optimal sequencing of chemotherapy with radiotherapy through decades of clinical trials. Basic research into the pathogenic role of EBV and the genomic, epigenomic and immune landscape of NPC has laid the foundations of translational research. The latter, in turn, has led to the development of new biomarkers and therapeutic targets and of improved approaches for individualizing immunotherapy and targeted therapies for patients with NPC. We provide historical context to illustrate the effect of these advances on treatment outcomes at present. We describe current preclinical and clinical challenges and controversies in the hope of providing insights for future investigation.

Creating an interactive database for nasopharyngeal carcinoma management: applying machine learning to evaluate metastasis and survival

Abstract:Objective: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients frequently present with distant metastasis (DM), which is typically associated with poor prognosis. This study aims to develop and apply machine learning models to predict DM, overall survival (OS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in NPC patients to provide optimal tools for improved predictive accuracy and performance. Methods: We retrieved over 8,000 NPC patient samples with associated clinical information from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Utilizing two methods for handling missing values—imputation or deletion—we created various cohorts: DM-all, DM-slim, OS-all, OS-slim, CSS-all, and CSS-slim. Five machine learning models were deployed for the binary classification task of DM, and their performance was evaluated using the area under the curve (AUC). For the survival prediction tasks of OS and CSS, we constructed 45 combinations using nine survival machine learning algorithms. The Concordance Index (C-index), 5-year AUC, and Brier score assessed model accuracy. Patients were stratified into two risk groups for survival analysis, and the survival curves were presented. Results: This study examines the relationships between clinical factors and survival in NPC patients. The analysis, visualized through forest plots, indicates that demographic and clinical variables like gender, marital status, tumor grade, and stage significantly affect metastatic risks and survival. Specifically, factors such as advanced stages increase metastasis and survival risks, while enhanced treatments improve survival rates. In the cohort for DM prediction, results revealed that the random forest model was the most effective, with an AUC of 0.687. In contrast, when predicting overall survival (OS), the random survival forest (RSF) model consistently showed superior performance with the highest mean C-index of 0.802, a 5-year AUC of 0.857, and a Brier score of 0.167. Similarly, for cancer-specific survival (CSS) prediction, the RSF model demonstrated a mean C-index of 0.822, a 5-year AUC of 0.884, and a Brier score of 0.165. An online Shiny server was developed to allow the models to be used freely and efficiently via http://npcml.shinyapps.io/NPCpre. Conclusion: This study successfully established an online tool by machine learning models for NPC metastasis and survival prediction, providing valuable references for clinicians.

Abstract:Background: The Cox proportional hazards (CPH) model is the most commonly used statistical method for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) prognostication. Recently, machine learning (ML) models are increasingly adopted for this purpose. However, only a few studies have compared the performances between CPH and ML models. This study aimed at comparing CPH with two state-of-the-art ML algorithms, namely, conditional survival forest (CSF) and DeepSurv for disease progression prediction in NPC. Methods: From January 2010 to March 2013, 412 eligible NPC patients were reviewed. The entire dataset was split into training cohort and testing cohort in a ratio of 90%:10%. Ten features from patient-related, disease-related, and treatment-related data were used to train the models for progression-free survival (PFS) prediction. The model performance was compared using the concordance index (c-index), Brier score, and log-rank test based on the risk stratification results. Results: DeepSurv (c-index = 0.68, Brier score = 0.13, log-rank test p = 0.02) achieved the best performance compared to CSF (c-index = 0.63, Brier score = 0.14, log-rank test p = 0.38) and CPH (c-index = 0.57, Brier score = 0.15, log-rank test p = 0.81). Conclusions: Both CSF and DeepSurv outperformed CPH in our relatively small dataset. ML-based survival prediction may guide physicians in choosing the most suitable treatment strategy for NPC patients.

Abstract:A comparative genomics analysis of EBV+ and EBV‐ NPCs through WES to reveal their both shared and distinct genetic abnormalities is reported and created a serial of primary, orthotopic, and genetic driver‐defined NPC mouse models initiated with gene‐edited normal nasopharyngeal organoids to explore molecular mechanisms underlying NPC tumorigenesis. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), a squamous cell carcinoma originating in the nasopharynx, is a leading malignancy in south China and other south and east Asia areas. It is frequently associated with Epstein‐Barr virus (EBV) infection, while there are also some NPC patients without EBV infection. Here, it is shown that the EBV+ (EBV positive) and EBV‐ (EBV negative) NPCs contain both shared and distinct genetic abnormalities, among the latter are increased mutations in TP53. To investigate the functional roles of NPC‐associated genetic alterations, primary, orthotopic, and genetically defined NPC models were developed in mice, a key tool missed in the field. These models, initiated with gene‐edited organoids of normal nasopharyngeal epithelium, faithfully recapitulated the pathological features of human disease. With these models, it is found that Trp53 and Cdkn2a deficiency are crucial for NPC initiation and progression. And latent membrane protein1 (LMP1), an EBV‐coding oncoprotein, significantly promoted the distal metastasis. Further, loss of TGFBR2, which is frequently disrupted both in EBV‐ and EBV+ NPCs, dramatically accelerated the progression and lung metastasis of NPC probably by altering tumor microenvironment. Taken together, this work establishes a platform to dissect the genetic mechanisms underlying NPC pathogenesis and might be of value for future translational studies.

Abstract:Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is an epithelial malignancy that shows a remarkable ethnic and geographical distribution. It is one of the major public health problems in some countries, especially Southern China and Southeast Asia, but rare in most Western countries. Multifactorial interactions such as Epstein-Barr virus infection, individual's genetic susceptibility, as well as environmental and dietary factors may facilitate the pathogenesis of this malignancy. Late presentation and the complex nature of the disease have led it to become a major cause of mortality. Therefore, an effective, sensitive, and specific molecular biomarker is urgently needed for early disease diagnosis, prognosis, and prediction of metastasis and recurrence after treatment. In this review, we discuss the recent research status of potential biomarker discovery and the problems that need to be explored further for better NPC management. By studying the aberrant pattern of these candidate biomarkers that promote NPC development and progression, we are able to understand the complexity of this malignancy better, hence positing our stands better towards strategies that may provide a way forward to the discovery of more reliable and specific biomarkers for diagnosis and targeted therapeutic development.
Global burdens of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in children and young adults and predictions to 2040

Abstract:Objectives: To investigate the epidemiological trend for nasopharyngeal carcinoma among children and young adults and the disease burden they caused. Materials and methods: Data were collected from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study 2019. A comprehensive analysis was performed, with age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR), disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) and estimated annual percentage changes (EAPC). And decomposition and frontier analyses were done. Future trends were predicted using Bayesian age-period-cohort model. Results: Globally, there were decreases in the ASIR (EAPC -0.175, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: -0.352 to 0.002), ASMR (EAPC -2.681, 95 % CI: -2.937 to -2.424), and age-standardized DALYs rates (EAPC -2.643, 95 % CI: -2.895 to -2.391). However, the ASIR for males in global (EAPC 0.454, 95 % CI: 0.302 to 0.606), Asia (EAPC 0.782, 95 % CI: 0.610 to 0.954) and America (EAPC 0.448, 95 % CI: 0.379 to 0.517), as well as females in European (EAPC 0.595, 95 % CI: 0.479 to 0.712) and American (EAPC 0.369, 95 % CI: 0.324 to 0.415), showed an increasing trend. The future ASIR per 100,000 will likely show a slight upward trend in 2020 to 2040 (increased from 0.254 to 0.284), particularly among females (increased from 0.177 to 0.206), and a continued decline in ASMR for both sexes (decreased from 0.070 to 0.061). Conclusions: Globally, NPC in children and young adults remains a major public health issue, with the global distribution and magnitude of the burden varies markedly, highlighting the need to formulate regional and population-based policies for primary prevention.
Novel prognostic biomarkers in nasopharyngeal carcinoma unveiled by mega-data bioinformatics analysis

Abstract:Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is commonly diagnosed at an advanced stage with a high incidence rate in Southeast Asia and Southeast China. However, the limited availability of NPC patient survival data in public databases has resulted in less rigorous studies examining the prediction of NPC survival through construction of Kaplan-Meier curves. These studies have primarily relied on small samples of NPC patients with progression-free survival (PFS) information or data from head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) studies almost without NPC patients. Thus, we coanalyzed RNA expression profiles in eleven datasets (46 normal (control) vs 160 tumor (NPC)) downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and survival data provided by Jun Ma from Sun Yat-sen University. Then, differential analysis, gene ontology (GO) enrichment, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis and network analysis were performed using STRING database. After that, 2142 upregulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 3857 downregulated DEGs were screened. Twenty-five of them were identified as hub genes, which were enriched in several pathways (cilium movement, extracellular matrix structural constituent, homologous recombination and cell cycle). Utilizing the comprehensive dataset we amassed from GEO database, we conducted a survival analysis of DEGs and subsequently constructed survival models. Seven DEGs (RASGRP2, MOCOS, TTC9, ARHGAP4, DPM3, CD37, and CD72) were identified and closely related to the survival prognosis of NPC. Finally, qRT-PCR, WB and IHC were performed to confirm the elevated expression of RASGRP2 and the decreased expression of TTC9, CD37, DPM3 and ARHGAP4, consistent with the DEG analysis. Conclusively, our findings provide insights into the novel prognostic biomarkers of NPC by mega-data bioinformatics analysis, which suggests that they may serve special targets in the treatment of NPC.

Bibliometric analysis of emerging trend and top 100 most cited articles in primary central nervous system lymphoma

Abstract:Background: Over the past thirty years, numerous studies on primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) have been conducted, encompassing epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and mechanisms. However, no bibliometric analysis has been performed in this field. Therefore, we conducted a bibliometric analysis to elucidate the evolution and current status of PCNSL research and identify the most-cited articles across various disciplines. Material and Methods: Literature published between January 1992 and June 2024 in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) was extracted and classified. Three platforms (R-bibliometrix, VOSviewer, and Citespace) were used for the bibliometric analysis. Negative binomial regression was employed to establish a model for the risk ratio of citation. Results: A total of 1,798 publications were included in the analysis. The annual number of publications has shown a steady increase over time. The United States emerged as the leading country in terms of both the number of publications and total citations. Among individual researchers, Hoang-Xuan Khe from Sorbonne University was the most prolific in terms of publication count, while Lisa M. DeAngelis from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center received the highest number of citations. The study titled "Report of an International Workshop to Standardize Baseline Evaluation and Response Criteria for Primary CNS Lymphoma" was identified as the most cited work in this field. Keyword analysis indicated that immune therapy and non-invasive diagnosis are the primary focal points of current research. Among the top 100 most-cited articles, interventional studies demonstrated a higher citation ratio (RR = 1.357, 95% CI 1.044-1.764, P=0.023), whereas chemoradiotherapy studies exhibited a lower citation ratio (RR = 0.763, 95% CI 0.603-0.965, P=0.024). Conclusion: Research hotspots and trends in PCNSL were identified and explored using bibliometric and visual methods. The highly cited articles across multiple disciplines related to PCNSL may help generate high-quality research ideas, particularly in the fields of immunotherapy and non-invasive diagnosis.

Abstract:The results of eighty-seven inner ear valve implant procedures for Meniere's disease are compared to those of 181 other surgical procedures performed during the same period, and 339 cases reported in our previous series. Indications are that all procedures give comparable results, although it is suggested that in isolated cases the inner ear valve implant can improve hearing by much greater margins than can be achieved using alternative surgical methods. In spite of this advantage, however, there is a possibility that the approach to the endolymphatic duct used in the implant procedure may jeopardize the inner ear function, and thus it should still be used with caution.
