Abstract:Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a newcomer in supply chain area. With the help of RFID technology, real time information can be collected. Multi-agent technology is a popular way to address distributed supply chain management (SCM), and information sharing plays a key role in multi-agent system. To give multi-agent based model more power and facility, we present a RFID based multi-agent model, in which information synchronization is realized by employing RFID technology at item level. The RFID based multi-agent system is constructed, intra- and inter-coordination mechanism of this system are discussed.

Abstract:Having analyzed the business operation process of the raw material warehouse of apparel enterprise,the paper pointed out that there existed some managerial problems such as huge checking workload and inaccurate inventory quantity.Thus,an application solution for implementing RFID technology in the warehouse was proposed,employing the advantages of RFID(radio frequency identification) technology such as non-visual identification,multi-tag reading,non-contact identification,and fine environmental adaptability.The application solution consists of three parts: information scheme which describes the information requirement of application system,RF tag scheme that explain how the tag will be used and solution for specific business process.The whole solution has high reference value if an apparel enterprise tries to build the RFID application system themselves.

Abstract:China has recently promulgated its regulation on UHF RFID application, including the technology of frequency hopping. RFID readers use different channels to minimize collision. However, readers that work in the same or adjacent channels will cause bad signal to noise ratio (SNR) at the RF front-end of readers, which may reduce the reliability and efficiency of the RFID system. This paper concentrates on the study on the multi-reader situation, and attempts to propose an optimization algorithm to optimize the channel arrangement and to improve the system efficiency. The simulation results presented in this paper are obtained by using MATLAB.

Abstract:The rapid growth of online marketplaces and the advance of Internet technology have enabled manufacturers to more easily engage in direct selling through their own online stores. However, as any retail channel suffers misplacements, the manufacturer's direct sales channel will also face a critical inventory misplacement problem if it chooses encroachment. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) proven to be the most effective technology to eliminate the inventory misplacement problem. This paper investigates the strategic interaction between manufacturer encroachment and RFID deployment decisions in a supply chain consisting of a manufacturer and a reseller. We find that the manufacturers' encroachment strategies are determined by channels' misplacement rates, RFID deployment decisions and channel competition intensity. Specifically, the retail (direct) channel's misplacement problem encourages (discourages) the manufacturer to encroach; in addition, if only the retail (if it is direct) channel employs RFID, the encroachment cost threshold increases (decreases) with the RFID tag price; moreover, the more intense the channel competition is, the less likely the manufacturer will be to encroach. Further, when encroachment has occurred, channel competition will be a crucial factor in the direct channel's RFID deployment decision, but it will not affect the deployment of RFID in the retail channel.

Abstract:RFID technology is one of the most commonly concerned topics of the whole society in recent years.Compared with the traditional bar code system,RFID technology boasts more merits and has obvious advantages in the field of logistics management.Along with the constant improvement of RFID technology,the RFID label's cost decreases accordingly and its performance-to-price ratio rises obviously,the technology is gradually in wide application.This article emphasizes on the system application plan of RFID in logistics management proceeding from system application.Three models are proposed,including the hierarchical system model,the application model of forward logistics based on RFID technology and the information centre system model,for establishing the technology base of the RFID application in logistics management.
A Framework For Processing Uncertain Rfid Data In Supply Chain Management

Abstract:Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is widely used to track and trace objects in supply chain management. However, massive uncertain data produced by RFID readers are not suitable for directly use in RFID applications. Following our thorough analysis of key features of RFID objects, this paper proposes a new framework for effectively and efficiently processing uncertain RFID data, and supporting a variety of queries for tracking and tracing RFID objects. In particular, we propose an adaptive cleaning method by adjusting size of smoothing window according to various rates of uncertain data, employing different strategies to process uncertain readings, and distinguishing different types of uncertain data according to their appearing positions. We propose a comprehensive data model, which is suitable for a wide range of application scenarios. In addition, a path coding scheme is proposed to significantly compress massive data by aggregating the path sequences, the positions and the time intervals. Experimental evaluations show that our approach is effective and efficient in terms of the compression and traceability queries.

Abstract:As the market competition became more fiercely and the customers’ needs of diversified products increased, small and medium enterprises (SME) were more and more aware of the importance of getting quick respond of the market. More and more enterprises felt the logistics cost pressure during this business. How to lower down the logistics cost especially the stock cost became crucial for these SME enterprises. Further more, for enterprises whose producing type is many varieties small batches, how to use valid method to decline inventory and waste, is a great hard nut to crack. This article targeted on inventory control of clothing manufacturing enterprises for research, RFID technology was applied in stock management, optimization method was adopted for inventory control based on RFID, optimization control model was built, and the route for declined inventory cost and waste was analyzed. Finally, the application method was verified according emulation.
Efficient Distributed Query Processing in Large RFID-enabled Supply Chains

Abstract:Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has dramatically streamlined supply chain management by automatically monitoring and tracking commodities. Considering the proliferation of RFID data volume, distributed storage is more applicable and scalable than centralized storage for distributed query processing. Traditional distributed RFID data storage requires each distribution center to locally store raw RFID data, leading to data redundancy, storage and query inefficiency. In this paper, we design an efficient distributed storage model by leveraging Bloom filters to save storage space and improve query efficiency. Meanwhile, we establish corresponding query processing schemes to locally support existence queries and path queries, which are two kinds of most popular queries in the supply chain management. A local query can be completed with constant time complexity regardless of data volume. Experiments demonstrate that our storage model outperforms the traditional one in terms of both space and time efficiency.

Abstract:The radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is greatly revolutionizing applications such as warehouse management and inventory control in retail industry. In large RFID systems, an important and practical issue is tag searching: Given a particular set of tags called wanted tags, tag searching aims to determine which of them are currently present in the system and which are not. As an RFID system usually contains a large number of tags, the intuitive solution that collects IDs of all the tags in the system and compares them with the wanted tag IDs to obtain the result is highly time inefficient. In this paper, we design a novel technique called testing slot, with which a reader can quickly figure out which wanted tags are absent from its interrogation region without tag ID transmissions. The testing slot technique thus greatly reduces transmission overhead during the searching process. Based on this technique, we propose two protocols to perform time-efficient tag searching in practical large RFID systems containing multiple readers. In our protocols, each reader first employs the testing slot technique to obtain its local searching result by iteratively eliminating wanted tags that are absent from its interrogation region. The local searching results of readers are then combined to form the final searching result. The proposed protocols outperform existing solutions in both time efficiency and searching precision. Simulation results show that, compared with the state-of-the-art solution, our best protocol reduces execution time by up to 60 percent, meanwhile promotes the searching precision by nearly an order of magnitude.

Abstract:Obtaining real-time information is becoming more and more economically feasible with the development of RFID technology.The timely and accurate inventory information enabled by RFID can help optimize the ordering decisions and resolve inventory inaccuracy problem.However,most of the existing works that address inventory inaccuracy only consider the statistical inventory information calculated from RFID,rather than use the real-time data enabled by RFID into account in the decision-making process,which may not take full advantage of RFID benefits.We study a two-stage decentralized supply chain composed of a retailer and a manufacturer.Both of them face inventory inaccuracy problem.There are two kinds of RFID benefits:visibility benefit (RFID provides accurate inventory data in a timely manner to achieve supply chain visibility),and prevention benefit (RFID combines with other technologies to prevent or reduce inventory errors).We show that the effect of the two RFID benefits of the retailer and the manufacturer are interrelated and have different impacts on each other,which are specified as follows.(1) RFID visibility and prevention benefits of the retailer and manufacturer reduce their inventory and purchase costs,respectively.(2) RFID visibility in the retailer side increases the manufacturer's inventory cost,but RFID prevention in the retailer side decreases the manufacturer's purchase cost.The above results imply that the manufacturer may be motivated to induce the retailer to retain merely inventory statistical information,in order to alleviate its increasing inventory cost incurred by the retailer's visibility benefit.On the other hand,the retailer is also incentivized to persuade the manufacturer to apply RFID,in order to share RFID investment cost.It is clear that there exists some collaboration opportunities within the supply chain.We thus design a collaboration mechanism with the consideration of real-time inventory information,and shows the conditions where the mechanism can hold.The goal of global optimal collaborative design is to minimize the total supply chain cost.The retailer only uses statistical inventory information and acquires prevention benefit.The manufacturer applies real-time information and acquires both prevention and visibility benefits.Furthermore,we use Shapley-value-method to allocate supply chain's net benefit in accordance with each party's bargaining power in order to ensure the fairness and effectiveness of the mechanism.The theoretical and numerical analyses imply the following managerial insights.(1) Supply chain collaboration is easier to achieve when (a) one party already applies RFID,(b) inventory inaccuracy is more severe,(c) RFID tag cost is lower,and (d) the product value is higher.(2) The retailer always seizes the majority of the net benefits compared with the manufacturer.With the RFID tag cost continuously going down,the manufacturer's bargaining power will be even lower in the future.This paper aims to investigate the impact of real-time information enabled by RFID on the supply chain cost and coordination,in order to better resolve inventory inaccuracy problem,and shed lights on RFID innovative application in supply chain management.

This interest is driven by mandates from major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target and Metro Group, and the United States Department of Defense, in order to increase the efficiency and visibility of material and information flows in the supply chain. However, supply chain managers do not have a monopoly on the deployment of RFID. In this article, the authors discuss the potential benefits, the areas of applications, the implementation challenges, and the corresponding strategies of RFID in hospital environments.

Abstract:Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) is a dedicated short range communication technology. The term RFID is used to describe various technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify people or objects. RFID is a method of remotely storing and retrieving data using RFID tag. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has been attracting considerable attention with the expectation of improved supply chain visibility for consumer goods, apparel, and pharmaceutical manufacturers, as well as retailers and government procurement agencies. RFID technology is used today in many applications, including security and access control, transportation and supply chain tracking. Supply Chain Management (SCM) is now at the centre stage of Manufacturing and service organizations. According to the strategies in markets, supply chains and logistics are naturally being modelled as distributed systems. Abstract:The paper proposes an RFID management information system that integrates two common topics including inventory workflow management and warehouse management for bonded warehouse. The main core of this research focused on the boxes and pallets management for the bonded warehouse of Hsinchu Science Park in Taiwan. The entire management mechanism covered the semiconductor parts stored in bonded warehouse, inventory management on bonded warehouse and semiconductor parts delivered from bonded warehouse. Based on the cooperation among RFID tags, RFID readers and RFID middleware, the tags information attached on each box and each pallet would be passed to the backend warehouse management information system to achieve the tracing purpose. The result showed that the integrated RFID technology and management with the workflow of bonded warehouse would reduce the time of standardised inventory workflow and improve the efficiency of checking process, and that could also help the bonded inventory to be controlled much more precisely. The enterprises could thus save more labour costs and make the information transmission more transparent between customers and semiconductor companies.

Abstract:Inventory information inaccuracy is one of the main causes to the inventory waste in supply chain operations, which motivates many companies to adopt modern tracing technologies, e.g. radio frequency identification (RFID), to decrease inventory errors and strengthen the cooperation between the supply chain stakeholders. Considering different types of RFID possess unequal technique features in tracing items in more practical environment, for the first time this paper explores the different effectiveness of RFID in decreasing the inventory inaccuracies in a supply chain containing one retailer and two suppliers. Firstly, a novel scale factor function is introduced to illustrate the relationships between the variable cost of RFID and the non-full abilities of RFID in decreasing inventory inaccuracies. Then, under the stochastic demand and inaccurate inventory, analytical models are formulated to investigate the cost-effectiveness of different RFIDs to the optimal order quantities and the expected profits in different scenarios (uncoordinated and coordinated supply chains), hereby the best coordination strategies are addressed. At last, numerical results obtained from different scenarios on adopting RFID and a practical case-level RFID system for recycling packaging cases indicate that RFID can not only decrease inventory inaccuracies, but also strengthen the supply chain coordination.

Abstract:Based on the in-depth study of two technologies, wireless sensor network, and RFID technology, this paper proposes a corresponding solution to the urgent storage positioning problem and the safety of goods in transit in the logistics supply chain process. And on this basis, it broadens the whole logistics process of warehousing and distribution and designs a framework of intelligent logistics supply chain management system with wireless sensor network and RFID technology to realize the management process of logistics main business. For the problems of complicated hardware wiring, the excessive number of positioning nodes and low effective coverage rate of traditional RFID-based positioning methods in large-scale warehousing environment, the integrated RFID and wireless sensor network fusion technology constructs a new movable anchor node, divides the nodes in the traditional positioning process into fixed anchors and mobile anchors, proposes a secondary positioning method, improves positioning accuracy and effective coverage rate, and provides a new positioning method for large-scale storage environment. For the transportation of goods in transit, especially precious and dangerous goods, a six-axis acceleration sensor-based method for detecting the behavioral attitude of goods in transit is proposed. Time window slicing of cargo motion data stream is performed to reduce data processing and based on the statistical features of a large amount of experimental data, and feature vectors and classifiers are analyzed and designed to achieve behavioral attitude classification of goods in transit. The experiment proves that this method has high recognition accuracy and has certain practical application value. Finally, the whole storage and distribution logistics process is integrated, the framework of intelligent logistics supply chain management system combining WSN and RFID is built based on wireless sensor network software and hardware platform, and the detailed design of logistics supply chain management system business process is mainly carried out. Combined with the two key methods proposed in this paper, the information management process of traditional logistics business such as access, storage positioning and monitoring, and distribution monitoring and management is realized, and the management system is tested on this basis. The testing effect proves that this system has certain deployment reference significance and practical application value and to a certain extent can help improve the intelligence level of logistics supply chain management and achieve the expected goal of this study.

Abstract:This paper discusses demand and supply chain management and examines how artificial intelligence techniques and RFID technology can enhance the responsiveness of the logistics workflow. This proposed system is expected to have a significant impact on the performance of logistics networks by virtue of its capabilities to adapt unexpected supply and demand changes in the volatile marketplace with the unique feature of responsiveness with the advanced technology, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Recent studies have found that RFID and artificial intelligence techniques drive the development of total solution in logistics industry. Apart from tracking the movement of the goods, RFID is able to play an important role to reflect the inventory level of various distribution areas. In today’s globalized industrial environment, the physical logistics operations and the associated flow of information are the essential elements for companies to realize an efficient logistics workflow scenario. Basically, a flexible logistics workflow, which is characterized by its fast responsiveness in dealing with customer requirements through the integration of various value chain activities, is fundamental to leverage business performance of enterprises. The significance of this research is the demonstration of the synergy of using a combination of advanced technologies to form an integrated system that helps achieve lean and agile logistics workflow.

Abstract:It has been widely recognized that RFID related technologies will greatly improve the visibility, the efficiency and the collaboration of industry supply chain. In this new "product driven" supply chain scenario, manufacturer, supplier, and third party share and coordinate the use of diverse resources in distributed "virtual organizations". It challenges the security issues, which demand new technical approaches. In collaboration with researchers in Auto-ID Labs China, we have developed a service-oriented framework based on CA and Web Services, which supports inexpensive mediation of product information among rapidly evolving, heterogeneous information sources. Our architecture defines a user-driven security model that allows users to create entities and policy domains within virtual organizations. We emphasize that standard Web Services tools and software provide both stateless and stateful forms of secured communication.

Abstract:RFID localization is considered the key enabler of automating the process of inventory tracking and management for high-performance logistic network. A practical and deployable RFID localization system needs to meet reliability, throughput, and range requirements. This paper presents RF-Chord, the first RFID localization system that simultaneously meets all three requirements. RF-Chord features a one-shot multisine-constructed wideband design that can process RF signal with a 200 MHz bandwidth in real-time to facilitate one-shot localization at scale. In addition, multiple SINR enhancement techniques are designed for range extension. On top of that, a kernel-layer-based near-field localization framework and a multipath-suppression algorithm are proposed to reduce the 99% long-tail errors. Our empirical results show that RF-Chord can localize more than 180 tags 6 m away from a reader within 1 second and with 99% long-tail error of 0.786 m, achieving a 0% miss reading rate and ~0.01% cross-reading rate in the warehouse and fresh food delivery store deployment.
