Abstract:Pregnancy complications can't always be predicted. However, pregnant women must be aware of these pregnancy complications to avoid serious complications and begin treatment as soon as possible. Maternal mortality can be decreased by offering high-quality maternity services and educating women about the early warning signs of pregnancy. Therefore, the current study aimed to assess individual and community-level factors associated with women's knowledge about pregnancy complications in Ethiopia based on the 2019 Ethiopian mini-demographic health survey data (EMDHS). The study analyzed data from the 2019 EMDHS, including a weighted sample of 1,655 reproductive-age women. Multilevel binary logistic regression analysis was used to fit the associated variables. Using the interclass correlation (ICC), deviance, proportional change variance (PVC), and median odds ratio (MOR), the comparison and fit of the models were evaluated. The significant variables associated with knowledge about complications during pregnancy were identified using an adjusted odds ratio (AOR) and a 95% confidence interval (CI). The proportion of mothers with good knowledge of pregnancy complications was 44.8% (CI 42.4%–47.2%). The multi-level analysis revealed that secondary education (AOR = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.04–2.29), a higher education level (AOR = 1.74, 95% CI = 1.11–2.72), four and above ANC Visits (AOR = 0.74, 95% CI = 0.49–0.98), women who lived in Amhara (AOR = 2.10, 95% CI = 1.24–3.55), and SNNPR (AOR = 3.92, 95% CI = 2.10–7.31) were positively associated with knowledge about pregnancy complications while, women residing in Harari (AOR = 0.20, 95% CI = 0.98–0.44) and Dire-Dawa (AOR = 0.48, 95% CI = 0.24–0.95) were negatively associated with knowledge about pregnancy complications. This study found that nearly half (44.8%) of the study participants demonstrated knowledge about pregnancy complications. This suggests a significant gap in awareness that could potentially impact access to obstetric care for women experiencing complications during pregnancy. Therefore, prioritizing enhancements in antenatal counseling services and community health education regarding pregnancy complications is crucial.

Abstract:Background . Prenatal care refers to services a pregnant woman receives during pregnancy to ensure a healthy outcome for herself and her newborn. However, only limited studies have so far been done to assess the quality of prenatal care in the study area. Thus, this study is aimed at assessing the quality of prenatal care and associated factors at public health facilities in Wogera district, northwest Ethiopia. Methods . An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Wogera district from March to April 2019. A total of 465 pregnant women were interviewed using a semi-structured interviewer-administered questionnaire; consecutive sampling was used to select the participants. The binary logistic regression analysis model was fitted to identify the potential predictor variables. Variables with <0.2 p values were fitted into the multivariable logistic regression analysis model; <0.05 p values and an adjusted odds ratio (AOR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to declare factors associated with the quality of prenatal care. Results . The overall quality of prenatal care was 32.7% (95% CI: 28.1, 37.2). Four or more prenatal care visits ( AOR = 2.3 ; 95% CI: 1.2, 4.7), high maternal education ( AOR = 2.9 ; 95% CI: 1.03, 7.93), over USD 175.5 monthly household income ( AOR = 2.8 ; 95% CI: 1.1, 7.8), and the availability of maternity waiting areas ( AOR = 2.4 ; 95% CI: 1.2, 5.0) were positively associated with the quality of the care. Conclusion . The overall quality of prenatal care in this study was low. Therefore, promoting focused prenatal care and increasing infrastructure, encouraging maternal education, and compensating for the healthcare costs for women with low household income might enhance the quality of the care.

Abstract:Introduction: coronavirus is a communicable disease that produces severe morbidity and mortality in the globe and more than three million people died due to COVID-19. Pregnant mothers are at higher risk of COVID-19 viral infection, with great morbidity and mortality. Thus, the purpose of this research is to assess the level of COVID-19 vaccine acceptability, determinants, and hesitancy among pregnant mothers attending antenatal care at Debre Markos town, public health institutions, Debre Markos, Northwest Ethiopia.Methods: a mixed study was conducted among 350 pregnant mothers attending antenatal care at Debre Markos town health institutions and the participants were selected by consecutive sampling techniques. The collected data were entered into EPI Info version 7 and then exported to SPSS version 25 for data cleaning and analysis. The level of COVID-19 vaccine acceptability was determined through descriptive statistics, whereas its determinants were identified by binary logistic regression analyses. Variables with p-value < 0.05 in multivariable were considered as significantly associated factors. The qualitative data were collected by an unstructured interviewer guide using in-depth interview data collection methods. Study participants were selected purposively until the required data was saturated. The data was analysed under selected themes based on the guide and summarized manually.Results: sixty-five (18.5%) of the respondents accept the COVID-19 vaccine [95% CI: 13, 23]. Maternal age [AOR: 3.281 (95% CI: 1.184, 9.092)], chronic medical illness [AOR: 0.170 (95% CI: 0.051, .562)], information about COVID-19 vaccine [AOR: 4.063 (95% CI: 1.462, 11.293)], pregnancy-induced medical conditions [AOR: 4.131 (95% CI: 1.055, 16.183) were identified as significant determinants of COVID-19 vaccine acceptability. From the quantitative wing. The qualitative finding implied that misconception, fear of medical complications, lack of trust in its effectiveness, and religious constraints were the common reasons for vaccine hesitancy.Conclusion: COVID-19 vaccine acceptability by pregnant mothers attending ANC at Debre Markos town public health institutions is very low. The health care providers and health extension workers shall create information about the COVID-19 vaccine on its importance and side effects.
A Cross-sectional study design of risk factors related to antenatal care service use among pregnant women in Sinana district, Bale zone, Ethiopia

Abstract:Background: Maternal health refers to the well-being of women through pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. Antenatal care refers to the care that is given to a pregnant woman from the time that conception is confirmed until the beginning of labour. Ethiopia was known in concert of the world's nation with primary maternal mortality proportions. The major goal of this study was to survey risk factors related with antenatal care service use among pregnant ladies at regenerative age. Methods: Data were obtained from primary sources. To dissect the information, descriptive and Bayesian multilevel binary logistic regression of random coefficient model was utilized. The convergence of parameters was assessed by Monte carol Markova Chain utilizing Stata 16 and MLwiN 2.31 programming. Results: The descriptive result showed that out of the whole 636 pregnant women considered around 60.5%were obtained antenatal care benefits. The odds ratio of pregnant women living in the rural areas being receiving antenatal care services was 0.206(OR = 0.206, P ≤ 0.05). This indicates that the use of prenatal care by rural mothers has decreased by 79.4% compared to urban mothers. Similarly, the Odds ratio for Pregnant women with medium and rich wealth index are 1.571(OR = 1.571, P ≤ 0.05) and 1.90(OR = 1.90, P ≤ 0.05) respectively. This means that pregnant women who are with medium and rich wealth index level had 57.1% and 90% increased odds compared to those pregnant women with poor wealth index consecutively. Varieties between the kebeles in terms of antenatal care benefit utilize were lessening by 0.9 % in random coefficient model. Conclusion: Generally, the study showed that there was high variation among pregnant women not to utilize antenatal care benefits and the likelihoods of prenatal use were found to increase with the husband occupation, wealth index, age category 25-34, and husband education level.
Prevalence and determinants of adverse perinatal outcomes of preeclampsia with severe features at two selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Abstract:Background: Preeclampsia is a new onset of hypertension and either proteinuria or end-organ failure after 20 weeks of gestation. It is a prevalent cause of perinatal mortality, morbidity, and neonatal complications in developing nations including Ethiopia. Thus, the aimed to assess the prevalence and determinants of adverse perinatal outcomes among women with preeclampsia with severity features (PEWSF) at two selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2023. Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 348 mothers between January 1, 2023, and July 1, 2023. A structured, pre-tested questionnaire was used to gather data from in-person interviews and a review of the patient's medical record. The statistical program Epi-Data version 4.6 was used to enter the data, and SPSS version 26.0 was used for analysis. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to find factors that were associated with unfavorable perinatal outcomes. A p -value of less than 0.05 was used to declare the significance level. Result: The overall prevalence of unfavorable perinatal outcomes was 59.2% (95% CI: 54.0–63.8). Among the complications, low birth weight, prematurity, NICU admission, and a low fifth-minute APGAR score, encompass 48.9%, 39.4%, 20.4%, and 14.7%, respectively. No formal education [OR = 5.14, 95% CI: (1.93–13.63)], unemployment [OR = 0.42, 95% CI: (0.24–0.73)], referral cases [OR = 2.03, 95% CI: (1.08–4.06), inadequate antenatal care (ANC) contact [OR = 3.63, 95% CI: (1.22–10.71)], and family history of hypertension [OR = 1.99, 95% CI: (1.03–3.85)] have shown a statistically significant association with unfavorable perinatal outcomes. Conclusion: In this study, the prevalence of unfavorable perinatal outcomes was high compared to other studies in Ethiopia. Level of education, occupation, mode of admission, ANC contact, and family history of hypertension were significant predictors of unfavorable perinatal outcomes. Socio-economic development, improving referral systems, and adequate antenatal care contact are needed to improve unfavorable outcomes. Additionally, antenatal screening and specialized care for high-risk mothers, e.g., those with a family history of hypertension are recommended.

Abstract:Background: Perinatal depression, characterized by the presence of depressive symptoms during pregnancy and/or within the first 12 months postpartum, poses a significant global public health concern. It contributes to a multitude of health risks for mothers, their infants, and their families. Understanding of perinatal depression and its associated factors is crucial for effective prevention and intervention strategies. However, there is a lack of comprehensive research on this topic in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study aims to determine the prevalence and factors contributing to perinatal depression among Ethiopian women. Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted, involving 552 women receiving perinatal services at Kutaber district health institution and Boru Meda General Hospital. Study participants were selected through systematic random sampling techniques. Perinatal depression was assessed using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). The associations between various determinants and perinatal depression were examined using binary logistic regression, and factors with a p -value of less than 0.2 were included in the multiple logistic regression analysis. A p -value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The prevalence of perinatal depression was found to be 32.2%. The prevalence of perinatal depression was found to be 32.2%. Factors significantly associated with perinatal depression included being a student [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 4.364, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.386, 13.744], experiencing excessive pregnancy-related concerns (AOR = 1.886, 95% CI: 1.176, 3.041), past substance use (AOR = 2.203, 95% CI: 1.149, 4.225), the presence of anxiety symptoms (AOR = 3.671, 95% CI: 2.122, 6.352), experiencing stress symptoms (AOR = 6.397, 95% CI: 3.394–12.055), and daytime sleepiness (AOR = 2.593, 95% CI: 1.558, 4.316). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate a relatively high prevalence and valuable factors associated with perinatal depression. It highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to perinatal mental health that takes into account not only the biological aspects of pregnancy but also the psychological, social, and lifestyle factors that can impact a person's mental well-being during this critical period.

Abstract:Introduction: Pregnancy-related anxiety is a prevalent mental health issue that mostly affects women in low-income countries such as Ethiopia. It has been linked to unfavorable pregnancy outcomes, such as miscarriage, prematurity, and low birth weight. However, it has often received less attention, and community-based evidence lacks its prevalence and associated factors. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence and associated factors of anxiety in Northwest Ethiopian pregnant women in Gondar city. Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from 1 July to 30 August 2021 in Gondar city. A cluster sampling technique was used to select a sample of 872 pregnant women, and in-person interviews were conducted to gather data. Descriptive and analytical statistical procedures were carried out. Results: Of the participants, pregnancy-related anxiety was reported in 29.4% (95% CI: 26.3, 32.4) of women. The likelihood of having anxiety was higher among women who had known medical illness (AOR = 3.16; 95% CI: 1.8, 5.35), loneliness (AOR = 2.52; 95% CI: 1.34, 4.73), depression (AOR = 2.38; 95% CI: 1.48, 3.85), poor social support (AOR = 1.93; 95% CI: 1.21, 3.07), and intimate partner violence (AOR = 2.87; 95% CI: 2.04, 4.04). Conclusion: In this study, three out of ten women have suffered from anxiety. It is strongly advised to identify and treat known medical illnesses early in pregnancy, enhance social support, diagnose and treat depression, and limit intimate partner violence through multimodal and integrative activities with concerned bodies.

Abstract:Background The awareness of women towards oral health during pregnancy is an important aspect of her general health. It can compromise pregnancy outcomes, as well as it may affect the newborn’s overall health. Every pregnant woman plays a critical role in shaping the oral hygiene habits adopted by her if she is aware of pregnancy-related oral health and result in good perinatal outcomes. This study aimed to assess knowledge of oral health during pregnancy and associated factors among pregnant mothers who attend antenatal care at South Omo Zone public hospitals, Southern Ethiopia, 2021. Methods An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted among pregnant women attending routine antenatal care from October 01 to November 30. A systematic random sampling method was conducted to select study participants. Data had been collected through face-to-face interviews using semi-structured questionnaires. Data were entered using epi data version 3.1 and exported to Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 25 for data analysis. Descriptive statistics had calculated for each variable, and binary logistic regression analysis with 95% confidence intervals was carried out to assess the factors associated with the outcome variables. Variables with P-value less than 0.05 were used to declare statistical significance. Result Overall good knowledge of pregnant mothers regarding oral health was 34.1% with 95% CI, (32.76, 35.44). Having access to health facility (AOR = 2.60, 95% CI, 1.44, 4.70), having the educational status of secondary and above (AOR 1.37, 95% CI, 1.44, 4.31), having the educational status of primary education (AOR = 0.43, 95% CI, 0.20, 0.92), having a median income of > = 1500 Ethiopian birr (AOR = 0.41, 95% CI, 0.23, 0.72), being governmental employee (AOR = 0.11, 95% CI, 0.03, 0.41), received oral health hygiene counseling during pregnancy (AOR = 1.33, 95% CI, 1.62, 2.84) were significantly associated with good knowledge of oral health of pregnant mothers. Conclusion This study showed that the knowledge of pregnant mothers about oral health was 34.1%. Educational status, monthly income, occupation, access to health services, and receiving counseling on oral hygiene at antenatal care were some factors associated with good knowledge of oral health during pregnancy. Therefore strengthening counseling during antenatal care, improving access to a health facility, improving educational status, monthly income, and being government employee are crucial to enhance knowledge of women towards oral health during pregnancy.

Abstract:The clinical spectrum of scrub typhus ranges from mild to fatal depending on the virulence of bacterial strain, susceptibility of the host and promptness with which treatment is started. We report a case of a 14-year-old child with scrub typhus who developed acute pancreatitis. On serological confirmation, doxycycline therapy was started. The patient responded well and had no complications on follow-up. This case report highlights the importance of recognising an uncommon presentation of this common tropical disease, and its prompt diagnosis and early treatment for prevention of serious complications of the condition.
Dietary Practice and Associated Factors Among Pregnant Women at Public Health Institution in Mizan-Aman Town, Southwest Ethiopia

Abstract:Background: A poor dietary intake of key macronutrients and micronutrients adversely affects pregnancy outcomes and neonatal health. The occurrence of dietary inadequacy during pregnancy is higher compared to any other stage of the life cycle. Therefore, this study aimed to assess dietary practice and associated factors among pregnant women. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study design was conducted among 378 pregnant women from March to May 2021 at the public health institution of Mizan-Aman town, southwest Ethiopia. A systematic random sampling technique was used to reach the study participants. The short food-frequency questionnaires and nutrition-behaviors checklist measurement were used to assess the dietary practice. Nine questions were applied to assess the dietary attitudes of the respondents. After the summation of the score, the respondent was categorized as favorable attitude if their score was > the median and unfavorable attitude if their score was ⩽ to the median of the score. The data were entered into Epi Data 3.1 and exported to Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 21 software for analysis. Variables of P-value <.25 during bivariate logistic regression analysis were considered for multivariate analysis. Finally variables with an adjusted odds ratio of P-value <.05 along with a 95% Confidence interval (CI) were declared statistically significant. Results: The overall magnitude of good dietary practice among pregnant women was 25.1% (95% CI: 20.9, 29.71%). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, the variables having television/radio (AOR = 4.2, 95% CI: 1.8, 10.2), household food security (AOR = 3.1, 95% CI: 1.0, 9.9), good dietary knowledge(AOR = 4.1, 95% CI: 1.98, 8.6), favorable dietary attitude (AOR = 4.34, 95% CI: 1.2, 8.7), monthly income of 1000 to 2000 Ethiopian birr (AOR = 3.7, 95% CI: 1.3,11.2) and >2000 Ethiopian birr (AOR = 7.0;95% CI: 3.3,15.4) were significantly associated with good dietary practice. Conclusion: The dietary practice among pregnant women was very low. The factors like having television/radio, good dietary knowledge, household food security, favorable dietary attitude, and monthly income of 1000 to 200 and greater than 2000 Ethiopian birr were significantly associated with the good dietary practice of pregnant women.

Abstract:The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that complications related to pregnancy and childbirth affect approximately 300 million women in developing countries, causing both acute and chronic illnesses. Direct obstetric complications such as hemorrhage, sepsis, hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, obstructed and prolonged labor, and unsafe abortion account for approximately 75% of maternal deaths. This study aimed to assess the perceptions and attitudes towards pregnancy danger signs among women of childbearing age in the Al-Baha Region, Saudi Arabia. A descriptive cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted using simple random sampling to select 446 pregnant women. After outlining the study's goal and ensuring confidentiality, data were gathered through a pre-tested, well-designed questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Excel and SPSS version 28. The assessment of the study participants about perceptions of pregnancy danger signs revealed that many were aware of signs such as bleeding, abdominal pain, and lack of fetal movement, indicating a comprehensive understanding of potential pregnancy complications. The study participants exhibited good knowledge and relatively positive attitudes towards pregnancy danger signs. However, a significant fraction showed negative attitudes and insufficient knowledge, suggesting room for improvement in maternal health literacy. The study also found a significant relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and knowledge.Most participants had good knowledge and perceptions about pregnancy danger signs, and their attitudes were relatively positive. However, there is a need to increase awareness and improve attitudes towards pregnancy danger signs among women in the Al-Baha Region.

Abstract:Abstract Background Antenatal care (ANC) is a health care intervention intended to ensure the safety of pregnancy. According to the World Health Organization, at least four ANC visits are recommended for a healthy pregnancy. However, whether this recommended number of visits was followed or not in the rural areas of Southwestern Ethiopia is not known. Therefore, the study aimed to investigate the prevalence of, and the associated factors of ANC utilization by pregnant women in the rural areas of Southwestern Ethiopia. Methods A community-based cross-sectional study design was used in three rural zones. The data were collected from n = 978 women through a structured questionnaire with face-to-face interview. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a multiple binary logistic regression model. Results The results showed that 56% of women made the recommended minimum number of ANC visits and the remaining 44% of them underutilized the ANC service. The multiple binary logistic regression model identified zone, marital status of the woman, educational level of the husband, occupation of the husband, knowledge of danger signs of pregnancy, birth interval, source of information, timely visits, and transportation problem to be statistically significant factors affecting the prevalence of ANC visit utilization of women. Bench Maji zone had smaller odds ratio of ANC visit prevalence as compared to Kaffa zone. Women who lived in the rural area of Sheko zone are 2.67 times less likely to utilize ANC visit than those who lived in the rural area of Kaffa zone keeping other variables constant. Conclusion The study results highlight the need to increase the number of ANC visits, and the importance of using an appropriate model to determine the important socio-demographic factors that ANC service providers shall focus on to improve the health of the unborn baby and the mother during pregnancy.

Abstract:Introduction: Maternal and neonatal health are among the top prioritised agendas of global health care with due emphasis given to developing countries, where the burden is profound. Antenatal care accompanied by its recommended components is highly beneficial for both maternal health and birth outcome. Objective: The objective of this study was to identify the proportion of pregnant women who received adequate Antenatal care components and associated factors among Ethiopian women. Methods and materials: We used a nation-wide data from Mini Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey (MEDHS) of 2019. All women of age 15-49 and who had at least one ANC visit, who were either permanent residents of the selected households or visitors who slept in the household the night before the survey, were eligible to be interviewed. Since we utilised multilevel logistic regression model, the STATA output had two components, the fixed effect and the random effect. In our model, the fixed effect part was displayed by odds ratio while the random effect was addressed by variance and intra-cluster correlation (ICC). Results: From the total women with at least one antenatal care (ANC) visit 55.41% (95% CI 53.60%, 57.20%) of them received adequate components of the care. In the final model after adjusting for the cluster and individual level variables, attending primary (AOR = 1.45; 95% CI: 1.15 to 1.84), secondary (AOR = 2.21; 95% CI: 1.51 to 3.24) and higher education (AOR = 2.42; 95% CI: 1.38 to 4.26) were significantly associated with higher odds of receiving adequate components of ANC. Similarly, wealth index of middle (AOR = 1.51; 95% CI: 1.06, 2.14), richer (AOR = 1.92; 95% CI: 1.32, 2.80), and richest (AOR = 3.86; 95% CI: 2.35, 6.33) compared to poorest index and having two or more ANC visits were significantly associated with receiving adequate components of ANC. On the other hand, being from Oromia region, from female headed household and protestant religion were negatively associated with receiving adequate components of ANC. Conclusion: The proportion of women who received adequate ANC component was much lower compared to the universal recommendation for every woman on ANC visit. Educational status, wealth index, number of ANC visit, region of residence and type of health facility were significantly associated with the odds of receiving adequate components of ANC. The government should pay attention to those without any formal education, encouraging pregnant women to receive the optimum number of ANC visits, and devising techniques to address those in poorest wealth index so that the proportion of adequate components of ANC will be increased.

Abstract:Objectives The aim of this study was to determine predictors of adverse perinatal outcome among women who gave birth at Medical Center of Southwest Ethiopia. Setting Institutional based retrospective cohort study was conducted among women who gave birth at Medical Center of Southwest Ethiopia. Participants Medical record of 777 women was included in the study by using maternity HMIS logbook as entry point. Simple random sampling technique without replacement was employed to select individual medical record using computer generated random numbers. Primary outcome measured Predictors of adverse perinatal outcome were examined using modified Poisson regression with a robust SE. Results Majority, 74.1% of the participants were in the age group of 21–34 years and the median age was 26 (IQR=7) years. More than one-third, 35.9% of the mothers were primigravida and only 21.2% of them had above four antenatal cares (ANC) visit. The overall incidence of adverse perinatal outcome was 31.5% (95% CI: 28.3 to 34.9). Maternal age less than 20 years (adjusted risk ratio, aRR=1.3; 95% CI: 1.01 to 1.5), rural residence (aRR=1.27; 95% CI: 1.04 to 1.59), presence of antepartum haemorrhage in current pregnancy (aRR=1.7; 95% CI: 1.38 to 2.07), maternal anaemia (aRR=1.25; 95% CI: 1.03 to 1.53), lack of ANC visit (aRR=2.29; 95% CI: 1.35 to 3.90), induced labour (aRR=1.77; 95% CI: 1.43 to 2.19) and being positive for venereal disease research laboratory (VDRL) test in current pregnancy (aRR=2.0; 95% CI: 1.16 to 3.38) were found to be significantly associated with adverse perinatal outcome. Conclusion The incidence of adverse perinatal outcome in the study area is high and maternal age less than 20, rural residency, maternal anaemia, antepartum haemorrhage in the current pregnancy, inadequate ANC visit, induction of labour and being positive for VDRL test were found to predict occurrence of adverse perinatal outcome. Majority of these problems can be managed by providing quality antenatal, intrapartum and post-natal care.

Abstract:ObjectivePreconception care is pivotal to improve pregnancy and birth outcome. It is vital for the future health of mother, her child and her family, which is routinely practice. The study aims to assess knowledge of preconception care and associated factors in post natal women at public health institution in Hawassa city, South Ethiopia.ResultsIn this study 20% (95% CI 16.9, 23.1) of post natal women at public health institution had a good level of knowledge on preconception care. Women who have secondary and above education level, urban residence, and have at least one ANC contact had significantly higher odds of good level of knowledge on preconception care. The finding of this study showed that level of women’s knowledge towards preconception care to be low compared to other studies. Having at least one ANC contact, urban residence and having secondary and above education are predictors of knowledge on preconception care. It shall be beneficial if the city health administration, regional and national health authorities work towards improving the knowledge of mothers towards preconception care as well as routine provision of preconception care in the health care system.

Abstract:The effect of angiotensin II inhibitor (sar1,gly8 angiotensin II) upon the pig-to-dog (10 pigs to 20 dogs) modified renal xenograft model has been studied. The angiotensin II inhibitor does not prevent hyperacute rejection (HAR). This implies that the vasocaonstriction which occurs during the HAR is not related to high levels of angiotensin II.

Abstract:Blood pressure assessment is an essential strategy for early detection and treatment of hypertension and hypotension. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are major public health problems resulting in a significant burden of perinatal and maternal morbidity and mortality. In Ethiopia, among pregnancies complicated by HDP, 25% end up with perinatal death. Perinatal and maternal mortality related to HDP were found to be higher in Ethiopia compared to high-income and most of the low- and middle-income countries. Despite its importance, there is limited evidence on blood pressure assessment during pregnancy. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the prevalence of blood pressure assessment during pregnancy and its associated factors in Ethiopia. This study was based on the 2019 Mini Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey data. A total weighted sample of 2923 women who had a live birth five years before the survey were included and Stata version 16 software was used for statistical analysis. To identify associated factors, a multilevel robust Poisson regression model was fitted since the prevalence of blood pressure assessment was higher than 10%. Variables with p-value < 0.2 in the bi-variable analysis were exported to the multivariable analysis. In the multivariable analysis, the adjusted prevalence ratio with its 95% confidence interval was used to declare a statistically significant association. In Ethiopia, the prevalence of blood pressure assessment during pregnancy was 88.1% (95% CI: 86.9%, 89.2%). In the multivariable multilevel robust Poisson analysis, primary education and secondary education, grand-multiparity, initiation of antenatal care before three months and 3–6 months, four and above antenatal care visits, being counselled by a health professional, being from richer and richest households, residing in Afar and Amhara regions were significantly associated with BP assessment during pregnancy in Ethiopia. To reduce the high burden of mortality related to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in the country, blood pressure assessment should be improved. Therefore, policymakers should design interventions that empower women in terms of education and economy, promoting early initiation of antenatal care visits and prenatal counselling could improve blood pressure assessment.

Abstract:Background: Preterm delivery refers to childbirth that occurs before 37 full weeks' gestation. Globally, around 13.4 million babies are born preterm annually, a million died due to its complications. Identifying its determinants is mandatory to decrease preterm birth and thereby neonatal deaths. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the determinants of preterm delivery among mothers who gave birth in hospitals in the Wolaita zone, southern Ethiopia. Methods: A hospital-based unmatched case-control study design was conducted from March 29 to May 20, 2023, in the Wolaita zone, southern Ethiopia. Cases were women who gave birth after 28 weeks and before 37 completed weeks, and controls were women who gave birth at and after 37 and before 42 weeks of gestation from the first day of the last normal menstrual period. A consecutive sampling method was used. Data were collected by a structured interviewer-administered questionnaire. Data were coded and entered into Epi data 3.1 and analyzed by using SPSS version 25. Variables that had a P-value < 0.25 in the bivariate logistic regression analysis were entered into a multivariable logistic regression model. Finally, p-value < 0.05 was used to claim statistical significance. Result: From a total of 405 eligible participants, 399 respondents (133 cases and 266 controls) participated in this study with a response rate of 98.52%. The result of the multivariable analysis shows that mothers who resided in rural areas [AOR = 2.78:95% CI (1.51-5.12)], not receiving support from their partner [AOR = 2.37:95% CI (1.24-4.51)], less than four antenatal care visits [AOR = 4.52:95%CI (2.38-8.57)], developed pregnancy-induced hypertension [AOR = 5.25:95%CI (2.27-12.14)] and exposed for intimate partner violence [AOR = 2.95:95%CI (1.105-7.85)], had statistically significant association with experiencing preterm delivery. Conclusion and recommendation: Most of the determinants for preterm delivery have been proven modifiable. Thus, designing new strategies, providing comprehensive mobile clinic services to address hard-to-reach areas and Health care providers should give due attention to mothers with pregnancy-induced hypertension and exposure to intimate partner violence and increase the awareness of antenatal care follow-up and benefit of support during pregnancy to reduce preterm delivery.
