Abstract:Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a highly prevalent and impairing neurodevelopmental disorder. While early childhood is a crucial time for early intervention, it is characterized by instability of ADHD diagnosis. Neural correlates of ADHD have potential to improve diagnostic accuracy; however, minimal research has focused on early childhood. Research indicates that disrupted neural connectivity is associated with ADHD in older children. Here, we explore network connectivity as a potential neural correlate of ADHD diagnosis in early childhood.We collected EEG data in 52 medication-naïve children with ADHD and in 77 typically developing controls (3–7 years). Data was collected with the EGI 128 HydroCel Sensor Net System, but to optimize the ICA, the data was down sampled to the 10-10 system. Connectivity was measured as the synchronization of the time series of each pair of electrodes. Subsequent analyses utilized graph theoretical methods to further characterize network connectivity.Increased global efficiency, which measures the efficiency of information transfer across the entire brain, was associated with increased inattentive symptom severity. Further, this association was robust to controls for age, IQ, SES, and internalizing psychopathology.Overall, our findings indicate that increased global efficiency, which suggests a hyper-connected neural network, is associated with elevated ADHD symptom severity. These findings extend previous work reporting disruption of neural network connectivity in older children with ADHD into early childhood.

Abstract:Introduction: This study aims to assess whether electroencephalogram (EEG) spectral power change scores (e.g. task spectral power subtracted from resting state spectral power) across three different frequency bands, alpha (8-12 Hz), theta (4-7 Hz), and beta (13-30 Hz), predicts self-reported attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms using the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS) over and above self-reported executive function (EF) abilities using the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF-A) Global Executive Composite (GEC) T-scores for adults. Methods: Data were collected at a rural, mid-sized southeastern university (N = 52) and participants received course credit for participation. Participants self-reported ADHD symptoms and EF abilities before completing eyes open resting state and the attention network test (ANT), a common flanker task that measures ability to orient attention, stay alert, and resolve conflict (i.e. distractor arrows) while recording EEG spectral power at electrodes F3 and F4. Bivariate correlations determine associations between EEG measures and self-reported ADHD symptoms and EF abilities. Linear regressions were used to assess whether EEG change scores were predictive of ADHD symptoms over and above EF abilities. Results: High correlation coefficients were found only when comparing the ASRS and BRIEF-A GEC T-scores (r = .822, p <.001). Regression analyses produced significant results indicating EEG spectral change scores were predictive of ADHD symptoms, over and above GEC T-Scores, for the alpha band but not the theta and beta bands. Additionally, we found an inverse relationship when comparing change scores in the alpha band across the right (F4) and left (F3) hemispheres supporting the theory of frontal asymmetry for individuals with increased ADHD symptoms. Conclusion: This study is the first to assess the predictive ability of EEG spectral power change scores in predicting ADHD symptoms, which are not solely explained by deficits in executive control. Past research has indicated significant differences when comparing task and resting state spectral power indicating change scores might have some utility in measuring cognitive load, specifically in the alpha band, which has been associated with inhibition, working memory, and anticipation of stimuli. Further research should be conducted to assess the utility change scores might have in providing an objective measure related to a clinical population with ADHD.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to determine whether EEG activity in specific bands correlated with the core behavioral symptoms of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD). Sixty boys diagnosed with AD/HD Combined type and 60 age-matched male controls participated in this study. An EEG was recorded during an eyes-closed resting condition and relative power estimates in the delta, theta, alpha, and beta bands, and the theta/beta ratio, were calculated. The EEG measures of the AD/HD group were converted to z scores relative to the controls, and these were correlated with scores on the Conners' Rating Scale obtained from a parent. The AD/HD group had global increases in theta activity and the theta/beta ratio, increased frontal delta, with reduced global alpha and frontal beta activity. Frontal theta activity correlated with inattention, the theta/beta ratio correlated with hyperactivity-impulsivity, and both measures correlated with a Combined type diagnosis. EEG power anomalies in AD/HD are associated with specific symptom clusters in the disorder.
Neural Oscillation Features of ADHD Symptoms in Children: EEG Evidence from Resting State and Oddball Task

Abstract:The current study examined resting-state and event-related neural oscillations associated with ADHD symptoms in children aged 6-12. 77 children were assessed using the Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test (IVA-CPT) and EEG during resting-state. A group of these children also completed a classic visual oddball task. Key findings include increased relative delta activity at left parietal electrodes during eyes-open and decreased relative theta activity at left posterior electrodes during eyes-closed, both associated with poor attention. Increased beta activity at right parieto-occipital electrodes during eyes-open and increased alpha activity at bilateral posterior electrodes during eyes-closed were associated with poor response control. In addition, the power of the P3 component was negatively correlated with attention across most frequency bands and conditions, except for delta power in the standard condition. Furthermore, combining multiple metrics, especially resting-state EEG oscillations, event-related oscillations, and parental ratings, provided a more robust prediction. The current study identified important brain regions and frequency bands related to ADHD symptoms, offering new insights for multi-metric prediction and clinical guidance.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: In children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), an increased theta/beta ratio in the resting EEG typically serves as a rationale to conduct theta/beta neurofeedback (NF) training. However, this finding is increasingly challenged. As NF may rather target an active than a passive state, we studied the EEG in a condition that requires attention.METHODS: In children with ADHD of the DSM-IV combined type (ADHD-C; N = 15) and of the predominantly inattentive type (ADHD-I; N = 9) and in typically developing children (N = 19), EEG spectral analysis was conducted for segments during the attention network test (ANT) without processing of stimuli and overt behavior. Frontal (F3, Fz, F4), central (C3, Cz, C4) and parietal (P3, Pz, P4) electrodes were included in the statistical analysis. To investigate if EEG spectral parameters are related to performance measures, correlation coefficients were calculated.RESULTS: Particularly in the ADHD-C group, higher theta and alpha activity was found with the most prominent effect in the upper-theta/lower-alpha (5.5-10.5 Hz) range. In the ADHD-I group, a significantly higher theta/beta ratio was observed at single electrodes (F3, Fz) and a tendency for a higher theta/beta ratio when considering all electrodes (large effect size). Higher 5.5-10.5 Hz activity was associated with higher reaction time variability with the effect most prominent in the ADHD-C group. A higher theta/beta ratio was associated with higher reaction times, particularly in the ADHD-I group.CONCLUSIONS: (1) In an attention demanding period, children with ADHD are characterized by an underactivated state in the EEG with subtype-specific differences. (2) The functional relevance of related EEG parameters is indicated by associations with performance (reaction time) measures. (3) Findings provide a rationale for applying NF protocols targeting theta (and alpha) activity and the theta/beta ratio in subgroups of children with ADHD.

Abstract:The past three decades of structural and functional MRI (fMRI) studies have contributed to the current view that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder, characterized by differences in the underlying brain structure, function, and structural and functional connectivity (1, 2). The most consistently found brain differences are in frontal, temporal, parietal, and striatal regions or networks that mediate higher-level attention and cognitive control functions that are often impaired in ADHD (1–4). More recently, in large-scale MRI mega- and meta-analyses (3, 4), affective regions such as amygdala and associated fronto-limbic regions have also been found to be different in structure, parallel to the increased awareness of affective behavior traits in the disorder, such as emotional dysregulation mediated by these areas (1). A key flaw of MRI studies in ADHD, as in other psychiatric disorders, is the inclusion of small numbers of participants, which has likely contaminated the field with false positives and inflated the effect sizes of nonreproducible brain differences (5, 6). This applies, in particular, to the majority of functional connectivity fMRI studies in ADHD, which have had small samples and highly heterogeneous analytical methods, resulting in inconsistent and likely inflated findings with respect to location and direction of network differences, such as increased, decreased, or no differing resting-state and task-based functional connectivity in participants with ADHD (7–9). This problem is addressed by Norman et al. in this issue of Journal (10), in a much-needed large-scale mega-analysis of resting-state functional connectivity data in 8,442 participants with and without ADHD, collected across multiple centers in the United States.

Abstract:The electroencephalogram (EEG) is an informative neuroimaging tool for studying attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); one main goal is to characterize the EEG of children with ADHD. In this study, we employed the power spectrum, complexity and bicoherence, biomarker candidates for identifying ADHD children in a machine learning approach, to characterize resting-state EEG (rsEEG). We built support vector machine classifiers using a single type of feature, all features from a method (relative spectral power, spectral power ratio, complexity or bicoherence), or all features from all four methods. We evaluated effectiveness and performance of the classifiers using the permutation test and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). We analyzed the rsEEG from 50 ADHD children and 58 age-matched controls. The results show that though spectral features can be used to build a convincing model, the prediction accuracy of the model was unfortunately unstable. Bicoherence features had significant between-group differences, but classifier performance was sensitive to brain region used. rsEEG complexity of ADHD children was significantly lower than controls and may be a suitable biomarker candidate. Through a machine learning approach, 14 features from various brain regions using different methods were selected; the classifier based on these features had an AUC of 0.9158 and an accuracy of 84.59%. These findings strongly suggest that the combination of rsEEG characteristics obtained by various methods may be a tool for identifying ADHD.
Comparing executive functions in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder with or without reading disability: A resting-state EEG study

Abstract:Introduction: As numerous studies have shown, executive dysfunction is the main impairment in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. According to recent neuroimaging studies, the frontoparietal coherence plays a key role in overall cognitive functions. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare executive functions during resting-state EEG by monitoring brain connectivity (coherence) patterns in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with or without reading disability (RD). Methods: The statistical sample of the study consisted of 32 children with ADHD aged between 8 and 12 years old with or without specific RD. Each group consisted of 11 boys and 5 girls that were matched on chronological age and gender. EEG was recorded during eyes-opened condition and brain connectivity within and between frontal and parietal regions was analyzed within theta, alpha, and beta bands. Results: The results revealed that across the frontal regions, the comorbid group showed a significant reduction in the left intrahemispheric coherence in the alpha and beta bands. The ADHD-alone group exhibited increased theta and decreased alpha and beta coherence in frontal regions. In the frontoparietal regions, children in the comorbid group showed lower coherence between frontal and parietal networks compared to children without comorbid RD. Conclusion: The findings indicate that brain connectivity (coherence) patterns of children with ADHD with comorbid RD were more abnormal and lend support to more disrupted cortical connectivity in the comorbid group. Thus, these findings can be a useful marker for better recognizing ADHD and comorbid disabilities.
Subcortico-Cortical Dysconnectivity in ADHD: A Voxel-Wise Mega-Analysis Across Multiple Cohorts

Abstract:Objective: A large body of functional MRI research has examined a potential role for subcortico-cortical loops in the pathogenesis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but has produced inconsistent findings. The authors performed a mega-analysis of six neuroimaging data sets to examine associations between ADHD diagnosis and traits and subcortico-cortical connectivity. Methods: Group differences were examined in the functional connectivity of four subcortical seeds in 1,696 youths with ADHD diagnoses (66.39% males; mean age, 10.83 years [SD=2.17]) and 6,737 unaffected control subjects (47.05% males; mean age, 10.33 years [SD=1.30]). The authors examined associations between functional connectivity and ADHD traits (total N=9,890; 50.3% males; mean age, 10.77 years [SD=1.96]). Sensitivity analyses were used to examine specificity relative to commonly comorbid internalizing and non-ADHD externalizing problems. The authors further examined results within motion-matched subsamples, and after adjusting for estimated intelligence. Results: In the group comparison, youths with ADHD showed greater connectivity between striatal seeds and temporal, fronto-insular, and supplementary motor regions, as well as between the amygdala and dorsal anterior cingulate cortex, compared with control subjects. Similar findings emerged when ADHD traits were considered and when alternative seed definitions were adopted. Dominant associations centered on the connectivity of the caudate bilaterally. Findings were not driven by in-scanner motion and were not shared with commonly comorbid internalizing and externalizing problems. Effect sizes were small (largest peak d, 0.15). Conclusions: The findings from this large-scale mega-analysis support established links with subcortico-cortical circuits, which were robust to potential confounders. However, effect sizes were small, and it seems likely that resting-state subcortico-cortical connectivity can capture only a fraction of the complex pathophysiology of ADHD.

Abstract:Objective: This study explored the relationships between resting-state electroencephalogram (RS-EEG) localized activation and two important types of executive functions (EF) to extend the prognostic utilization of RS-EEG in children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD). Also, the role of central nervous system (CNS) arousal in the relationships was examined. Methods: Fifty-eight children with AD/HD participated in the study. RS-EEG localized activation was derived from spectral power differences between EEG in eyes-closed and eyes-open conditions. CNS arousal was measured based on alpha band power. Common and everyday EF scores were obtained as EF outcomes. Results: Frontal delta activation predicted common EF ability and posterior alpha activation predicted everyday EF. A serial mediation analysis found that lower CNS baseline arousal was related to greater arousal and delta activation in series, which in turn related to worse common EF. A follow-up study found that baseline arousal was related to larger interference cost. Conclusions: RS-EEG is indicative of individual differences in two important types of EF in children with AD/HD. Lower CNS arousal may be a driving force for the poorer common EF performance. Significance: The current study supports prognostic utilization of RS-EEG and AD/HD models that take resting brain activity into consideration in children with AD/HD. Abstract:Purpose of reviewThe long-lived viral reservoir is a major obstacle to achieving a cure for HIV. Therapeutic strategies, such as early antiretroviral therapy (ART), may be a prerequisite to achieving long-term control of viral replication upon ART withdrawal. Recent findingsHIV persistence is established early in acute HIV infection (AHI) with infection in long-lived memory CD4+ T cells. Studies conducted in nonhuman primates have suggested that this could occur as early as 3 days postinfection; however, the timing in humans is uncertain. ART during AHI significantly restricts the HIV reservoirs as compared with later treatment. Early ART, particularly prior to the detection of HIV immunoglobulin M, may also reduce the contribution of the long-lived central memory CD4+ T cells to the total HIV reservoir, a profile observed in individuals who naturally control HIV without ART. SummaryIt is clear that early ART has a greater impact in limiting the HIV reservoirs than later treatment. However, latently infected long-lived memory CD4+ T cells persist in most early treated individuals. Therefore, additional interventions will likely be required to eliminate all cells capable of producing replication-competent virus but treatment in AHI may be the critical first step in containing the HIV reservoirs.
Functional Connectivity and Temporal Variability of Brain Connections in Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Bipolar Disorder

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: To assess brain functional connectivity and variability in adults with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or euthymic bipolar disorder (BD) relative to a control (CT) group.METHODS: Electroencephalography (EEG) was measured in 35 participants (BD = 11; ADHD = 9; CT = 15) during an eyes-closed 10-min rest period, and connectivity and graph theory metrics were computed. A coefficient of variation (CV) computed also the connectivity's temporal variability of EEG. Multivariate associations between functional connectivity and clinical and neuropsychological profiles were evaluated.RESULTS: An enhancement of functional connectivity was observed in the ADHD (fronto-occipital connections) and BD (diffuse connections) groups. However, compared with CTs, intrinsic variability (CV) was enhanced in the ADHD group and reduced in the BD group. Graph theory metrics confirmed the existence of several abnormal network features in both affected groups. Significant associations of connectivity with symptoms were also observed. In the ADHD group, temporal variability of functional connections was associated with executive function and memory deficits. Depression, hyperactivity and impulsivity levels in the ADHD group were associated with abnormal intrinsic connectivity. In the BD group, levels of anxiety and depression were related to abnormal frontotemporal connectivity.CONCLUSIONS: In the ADHD group, we found that intrinsic variability was associated with deficits in cognitive performance and that connectivity abnormalities were related to ADHD symptomatology. The BD group exhibited less intrinsic variability and more diffuse long-range brain connections, and those abnormalities were related to interindividual differences in depression and anxiety. These preliminary results are relevant for neurocognitive models of abnormal brain connectivity in both disorders.

Abstract:Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by repeated patterns of hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention that limit daily functioning and development. Electroencephalography (EEG) anomalies correspond to changes in brain connection and activity. The authors propose utilizing empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) for feature extraction and machine learning (ML) algorithms to categorize ADHD and control subjects. For this study, the authors considered freely accessible ADHD data obtained from the IEEE data site. Studies have demonstrated a range of EEG anomalies in ADHD patients, such as variations in power spectra, coherence patterns, and event-related potentials (ERPs). Some of the studies claimed that the brain's prefrontal cortex and frontal regions collaborate in intricate networks, and disorders in either of them exacerbate the symptoms of ADHD. , Based on the research that claimed the brain's prefrontal cortex and frontal regions collaborate in intricate networks, and disorders in either of them exacerbate the symptoms of ADHD, the proposed study examines the optimal position of EEG electrode for identifying ADHD and in addition to monitoring accuracy on frontal/ prefrontal and other regions of brain our study also investigates the position groupings that have the highest effect on accurateness in identification of ADHD. The results demonstrate that the dataset classified with AdaBoost provided values for accuracy, precision, specificity, sensitivity, and F1-score as 1.00, 0.70, 0.70, 0.75, and 0.71, respectively, whereas using random forest (RF) it is 0.98, 0.64, 0.60, 0.81, and 0.71, respectively, in detecting ADHD. After detailed analysis, it is observed that the most accurate results included all electrodes. The authors believe the processes can detect various neurodevelopmental problems in children utilizing EEG signals.

Abstract:Critical thinking becomes an essential competency for people in the new information age. The purpose of this research is to investigate to what extent writing online reflections using weblogs can promote students' critical thinking. This research is conducted in a secondary school. After completing 3 weblogs, a focus group interview was conducted to collect their feedback on the design and implementation of the research. The results showed that the students liked the way of writing online reflections. They attempted to make the weblogs interesting, convincing and logical. Also, they liked to view others' reflections and to give comments. This paper presents the formative evaluation processes and results of the research.

Abstract:In recent decades, resting state electroencephalographic (EEG) measures have been widely used to document underlying neurophysiological dysfunction in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Although most EEG studies focus on children, there is a growing interest in adults with ADHD too. The aim of this study was to objectively assess and compare the absolute and relative EEG power as well as the theta/beta ratio in children and adults with ADHD. The evaluated sample comprised 30 male children and 30 male adults with ADHD diagnosed according to DSM-IV criteria. They were compared with 30 boys and 30 male adults matched by age. The mean age (±SD) of the children’s group was 9 (±2.44) years and the adult group 35.8 (±8.65) years. EEG was recorded during an eyes-open condition. Spectral analysis of absolute (μV 2 ) and relative power (%) was carried out for 4 frequency bands: delta (2-4 Hz), theta (4-8 Hz), alpha (8-13 Hz), and beta (13-21 Hz). The findings obtained for ADHD children are increased absolute power of slow waves (theta and delta), whereas adults exhibited no differences compared with normal subjects. For the relative power spectra there were no differences between the ADHD and control groups. Across groups, the children showed greater relative power than the adults in the delta and theta bands, but for the higher frequency bands (alpha and beta) the adults showed more relative power than children. Only ADHD children showed greater theta/beta ratio compared to the normal group. Classification analysis showed that ADHD children could be differentiated from the control group by the absolute theta values and theta/beta ratio at Cz, but this was not the case with ADHD adults. The question that should be further explored is if these differences are mainly due to maturation processes or if there is a core difference in cortical arousal between ADHD children and adults.

Abstract:Objective: The electroencephalogram (EEG) has been widely used in AD/HD research. The current study firstly aimed to replicate a recent trend related to EEG theta/beta ratio (TBR) in children and adolescents. Also, the study aimed to examine the value of resting EEG activity as biomarkers for executive function (EF) in participants with AD/HD. Method: Fifty-three participants with AD/HD and 37 healthy controls were recruited. Resting EEG was recorded with eyes closed. Participants with AD/HD additionally completed EF tasks via the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery. Results: TBR did not differ between groups; however, TBR was positively correlated with inattentive symptoms in AD/HD. Other correlations were found between EEG activity and neuropsychological functions including spatial planning and decision making in the AD/HD group. Conclusion: The results do not support the diagnostic value of TBR. Instead, given the heterogeneous features, the results support the prognostic value of EEG in AD/HD.
Exploring the Potential "Brain-Cognition-Behavior" Relationship in Children With ADHD Based on Resting-State Brain Local Activation and Functional Connectivity

Abstract:Objective: Exploring how abnormal brain function in children with ADHD affects executive function and ultimately leads to behavioral impairment provides a theoretical basis for clinically targeted neurotherapy and cognitive training. Method: Amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (ALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo), and seed-based FC were analyzed in 53 ADHD and 52 healthy controls. The "brain-cognition-behavior" relationship was further explored using mediation analysis. Results: ADHD showed abnormal local activation in the middle temporal gyrus (MTG), inferior occipital gyrus and inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and reduced FC between the IFG and the cerebellum. ADHD diagnosis may affect ALFF of MTG and further modulate shift and finally affect inattentive symptoms. It may also affect the total symptoms through the FC of the IFG with the cerebellum. Conclusion: ADHD showed extensive spontaneous activity abnormalities and frontal-cerebellar FC impairments. Localized functional abnormalities in the MTG may affect the shift in EF, resulting in attention deficit behavior.
Identifying Developmental Changes in Functional Brain Connectivity Associated with Cognitive Functioning in Children and Adolescents with ADHD

Abstract:Children and adolescents diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often show deficits in various measures of higher-level cognition, such as, memory and executive functioning. Poorer high-level cognitive functioning in children with ADDH has been associated with differences in functional connectivity across the brain, including the frontoparietal network. However, little is known about the developmental changes to cortical functional connectivity profiles associated with higher-order cognitive abilities in this cohort. To characterize changes in the functional brain connectivity profiles related to higher-order cognitive functioning, we analyzed a large dataset(n=479) from the publicly available Healthy Brain Network which included fMRI data collected while children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 16 watched a short movie-clip. The cohort was divided into two groups, neurotypical youth (n=106), and children and adolescents with ADHD (n=373). We applied machine learning models to functional connectivity profiles generated from the fMRI data to identify patterns of network connectivity that differentially predict cognitive abilities in our cohort of interest. We found, using out-of-sample cross validation, models using functional connectivity profiles in response to movie-watching successfully predicted IQ, visual spatial, verbal comprehension, and fluid reasoning in children ages 6 to 11, but not in adolescents with ADHD. The models identified connections with the default mode, memory retrieval, and dorsal attention networks as driving prediction during early and middle childhood, but connections with the somatomotor, cingulo-opercular, and frontoparietal networks were more important in middle childhood. This work demonstrated that computational models applied to neuroimaging data in response to naturalistic stimuli can identify distinct neural mechanisms associated with cognitive abilities at different developmental stages in children and adolescents with ADHD.

Abstract:Attention deficits (AD) and disruptive behavior (DB) are highly comorbid youth externalizing behaviors. This study aimed to study reliable functional brain networks shared by AD and DB in youth aged from 8 to 21 years from the Philadelphia Neurodevelopmental Cohort (PNC). The PNC study assessed AD and DB behaviors via Kiddie-Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia (K-SADS). This study employed sparse canonical correlation analysis (SCCA) to examine the correlation of AD and DB behaviors with resting-state functional connectivity maps of the brain regions identified via activation likelihood estimation (ALE) meta-analyses on attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and DB disorder (DBD). Our meta-analyses identified that the middle cingulate cortex, pre-supplementary motor area (pre-SMA), and striatum had a great consensus in existing ADHD studies and the amygdala and inferior parietal lobule were consistently found in existing DBD studies. Our SCCA analysis revealed that the AD and DB behavioral items relevant to inattention and delinquency were correlated with the functional connectivity of the pre-SMA with the ventral attentional and frontoparietal networks (FPN), and the striatum with the default mode (DMN) and dorsal attentional networks. The AD and DB behavioral items relevant to inattention and irritability were associated with the functional connectivity between the amygdala and the DMN and FPN. Our findings suggest that the functional organization of the ADHD- and DBD-related brain regions provides insights on the shared neural basis in AD and DB.
