Abstract:Aim Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is associated with poorer outcomes in later life. We used a monochorionic twin model with IUGR in one twin to determine its impact on growth and neurocognitive outcomes. Methods Monochorionic twins with ≥20% birth weight discordance born in the north of England were eligible. Cognitive function was assessed using the British Ability Scales. The Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire was used to identify behavioural problems. Auxological measurements were collected. Generalised estimating equations were used to determine the effects of birth weight on cognition. Results Fifty-one monochorionic twin pairs were assessed at a mean age of 6.3 years. Mean birth weight difference was 664 g at a mean gestation of 34.7 weeks. The lighter twin had a General Conceptual Ability (GCA) score that was three points lower (Twin L −105.4 vs Twin H −108.4, 95% CI −0.9 to −5.0), and there was a significant positive association (B 0.59) of within-pair birth weight differences and GCA scores. Mathematics and memory skills showed the largest differences. The lighter twin at school age was shorter (mean difference 2.1 cm±0.7) and lighter (mean difference 1.9 kg±0.6). Equal numbers of lighter and heavier twins were reported to have behavioural issues. Conclusions In a monochorionic twin cohort, fetal growth restriction results in lower neurocognitive scores in early childhood, and there remain significant differences in size. Longer term follow-up will be required to determine whether growth or cognitive differences persist in later child or adulthood, and whether there are any associated longer term metabolic sequelae.
Impact of Maternal Prepregnancy Body Mass Index on Cognitive and Metabolic Profiles of Singletons Born after in Vitro Fertilization/intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the effect of elevated maternal prepregnancy body mass index (BMI) on intelligence and growth of singletons after in vitro fertilization (IVF) with or without intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Design: Cohort study. Setting: University hospital. Patient(s): Singletons born to infertile couples who underwent an autologous IVF/ICSI cycle from 2002 to 2012 and were followed up with at the age of 3-6 years from 2009 to 2017. Interventions(s): We compared the health of offspring born to overweight/obese women and normal weight women through assisted reproductive technology (ART). Main Outcome Measure(s): Age- and sex-specific BMI z-scores, verbal intelligence quotient (VIQ), performance intelligence quotient (PIQ), and full intelligence quotient (FIQ). Result(s): After adjusting for confounders, obese women were more likely than normal-BMI women to have obese children (20.0% vs. 5.1%), and overweight women had increased risks of having overweight children (13.6% vs. 8.2%) or obese children (10.1% vs. 5.1%) compared with normal-BMI women. Maternal prepregnancy BMI had a weakly negative effect on estimated IQ of children, but after adjusting for parental educational level, the IQ scores of offspring were similar between groups. However, after adjusting for confounders, offspring of obese women showed increased prevalence of intellectual disability (IQ <80) in VIQ (16.9% vs. 8.5%) and FIQ (10.8% vs. 3.9%) compared with normal-BMI women. Conclusion(s): Maternal prepregnancy obesity is associated with increased risks for obesity and overweight at early ages in offspring conceived through IVF/ICSI and may also affect the risk of intellectual disability of offspring. Overall, we suggest that weight management is essential for women before entering an IVF/ICSI cycle for ensuring long-term child health. (C) 2019 by American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Metabolic Biomarkers of Monochorionic Twins Complicated with Selective Intrauterine Growth Restriction in Cord Plasma and Placental Tissue

Abstract:The selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR) of monochorionic diamniotic (MCDC) twins causes phenotypic growth discordance, which is correlated with metabolomic pertubations. A global, untargeted identification of the metabolic fingerprint may help elucidate the etiology of sIUGR. Umbilical cord blood and placentas collected from 15 pairs of sIUGR monochorionic twins, 24 pairs of uncomplicated twins, and 14 singletons diagnosed with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) were subjected to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry based metabolomic analyses. Supervised multivariate regression analysis and pathway analysis were performed to compare control twins with sIUGR twins. A generalized estimating equation (GEE) model was utilized to explore metabolic differences within sIUGR co-twins. Linear logistic regression was applied to screen metabolites that significantly differed in concentration between control twins and sIUGR twins or IUGR singletons. Umbilical cord blood demonstrated better global metabolomic separation of sIUGR and control twins compared to the placenta. Disrupted amino acid and fatty acid metabolism as well as high levels of exposure to environmental xenobiotics were associated with sIUGR. The metabolic abnormalities in MCDA twins suggested that in utero growth discordance is caused by intrauterine and extrauterine environmental factors, rather than genetics. Thus, this study provides new therapeutic targets and strategies for sIUGR management and prevention.
Postnatal Delayed Growth Impacts Cognition but Rescues Programmed Impaired Pulmonary Vascular Development in an IUGR Rat Model

Abstract:Background and aims: Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a state of slower fetal growth usually followed by a catch-up growth. Postnatal catch-up growth in IUGR models increases the incidence of pulmonary arterial hypertension in adulthood. Here, we hypothesize that the adverse pulmonary vascular consequences of IUGR may be improved by slowing down postnatal growth velocity. Meanwhile, cognitive function was also studied. Methods and results: We established an IUGR rat model by restricting maternal food throughout gestation. After birth, pups were fed a regular or restricted diet during lactation by changing litter size. Thus, there were three experimental groups according to the dam/offspring diet: C/C (gold standard), IUGR with catch-up growth (R/C) and IUGR with delayed growth (R/D). In adulthood (14 weeks of age), we assessed pulmonary vascular development by hemodynamic measurement and immunohistochemistry. Our results showed that adult R/C offspring developed an elevated mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) and pulmonary arteriolar remodeling accompanied with decreased eNOS mRNA and protein expressions compared to C/C or R/D offspring. This suggested that delayed postnatal growth improved pulmonary circulation compared to postnatal catch-up growth. Conversely, adult R/D offspring performed poorly in cognition. Behavior test and electrophysiology results exhibited a reduced synaptic plasticity. Furthermore, decreased mRNA expression levels of the memory-related gene zif268 and transcription factor recruitment factor p300 in the hippocampus region were also observed in R/D group. Conclusion: These findings indicate that delayed postnatal growth results in cognitive impairment, but it reverses elevations in mPAP induced by postnatal catch-up growth following IUGR. Abstract:BackgroundBeing born with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) was associated with subsequent health issues later in life. However, the underlying role of adipokines in IUGR is unknown. ObjectivesTo measure the adiponectin and leptin concentrations in the cord blood of monochorionic (MC) twins with selective IUGR (sIUGR) and evaluate their associations with childhood growth trajectories. MethodsCord blood samples were collected from 22 pairs of MC twins with sIUGR and 20 pairs of normal MC twins. Adiponectin and leptin concentrations in cord blood were determined by ELISA. Data regarding perinatal outcomes and infantile growth trajectories from birth to 24 months were obtained. ResultsOnly cord blood adiponectin concentrations were associated with IUGR (beta -1.51, 95% CI -2.45, -0.57, p = 0.002), and cord blood leptin concentrations were significantly lower in sIUGR twins compared to normal twins (2.8 +/- 1.6 vs. 6.4 +/- 3.0, p < 0.001). Adiponectin concentrations were negatively associated with height increments from birth to 6 months (beta -0.28, 95% CI -0.51, -0.06, p = 0.015). Leptin concentrations were negatively associated with weight at 6 and 24 months (beta -0.12 95% CI -0.22, -0.02, p = 0.002; beta -0.18 95% CI -0.33, -0.03, p = 0.019) and weight and height increments from birth to 6 months (beta -0.17 95% CI -0.29, -0.06, p = 0.020; beta -0.40 95% CI -0.81, -0.01, p = 0.037). ConclusionCord blood adiponectin concentrations were negatively associated with IUGR but did not predict childhood growth. Cord blood leptin concentrations were inversely associated with weight and height increments in the first 6 months.

Abstract:Intrauterine Growth Retardation (IUGR) is defined as a rate of growth of a fetus that is less than normal for the growth potential of the fetus (for that particular gestational age). Small for Gestational Age (SGA) is defined infant born following IUGR, with a weight at birth below the 10th percentile.Suboptimal fetal growth occurring in IUGR fetuses is an important cause of perinatal mortality and morbidity. The acute neonatal consequences of IUGR include metabolic and hematological disturbances, and disrupted thermoregulation; in addition, respiratory distress (RDS), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) may contribute to perinatal morbidity. Metabolic disturbances are related to glucose and fatty acid metabolism. It is well-known that individuals who display poor growth in utero are at significantly increased risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance (the so-called metabolic syndrome, MS). MS ultimately leads to the premature development of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, short stature in children and adults, premature adrenarche, and the polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) are endocrinological sequelae of IUGR. (8) Early onset growth delay and prematurity significantly increase the risk for neurological sequelae and motor and cognitive delay.Future prospective studies need to investigate risk factors for infants who are SGA. If reliable prediction can be achieved, there is potential to reduce future perinatal morbidity and mortality, and long term consequences among SGA babies.
Maternal Utero-Placental Perfusion Discordance in Monochorionic-Diamniotic Twin Pregnancies with Selective Growth Restriction Assessed by Three-Dimensional Power Doppler Ultrasound

Abstract:Background: The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between selective growth restriction (sGR) and co-twin utero-placental perfusion discordance by using three-dimensional power Doppler (3DPD). Material/Methods: We prospectively recruited 60 sGR and 64 normal monochorionic-diamniotic (MCDA) twin pregnancies. Vascularization index (VI), flow index (FI), and vascularization flow index (VFI) were assessed by 3DPD, while umbilical artery pulsatility index (UA-PI), middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity (MCA-PSV), pulsatility index (MCA-PI), and cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) were assessed by conventional Doppler imaging. Results: In sGR co-twins, the VI, FI, VFI, MCA-PI, and CPR were significantly lower, while the UA-PI and MCA-PSV were significantly greater, in the smaller fetuses compared with the larger fetuses; significant differences were also observed in the VI, FI, VFI, CPR, and UA-PI in normal co-twins. Compared with the appropriately grown twins, the discordances of the VI, FI, VFI, UA-PI, MCA-PI, and CPR were increased in the sGR cohort. The discordances of the VI, FI, VFI, UA-PI, MCA-PI, and CPR were associated with birthweight discordance, and the FI discordance and CPR discordance were independently associated with sGR. The combination of the FI and CPR discordance showed a higher predictive accuracy for sGR, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.813, and a sensitivity and specificity of 68.33% and 85.94%, respectively. Conclusions: MCDA twin pregnancies with birthweight discordance presented utero-placental perfusion deterioration assessed by 3DPD prior to sGR diagnosis. Co-twin utero-placental perfusion discordance was significantly correlated with growth discordance, and this correlation was more predictive of sGR when 3DPD was combined with conventional Doppler imaging.

Abstract:Objective: To explore whether there exist differences in cognitive development between singletons and twins born after in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Methods: A total of 566 children were recruited for the study, including 388 children (singletons, n=175; twins, n=213) born after IVF and 178 children (singletons, n=87; twins, n=91) born after ICSI. The cognitive development was assessed using the Chinese-Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (C-WISC). Results: For all pre-term offspring, all the intelligence quotient (IQ) items between singletons and twins showed no significant differences no matter if they were born after IVF or ICSI. There was a significant difference in the cognitive development of IVF-conceived full-term singletons and twins. The twins born after IVF obtained significantly lower scores than the singletons in verbal IQ (containing information, picture & vocabulary, arithmetic, picture completion, comprehension, and language), performance IQ (containing maze, visual analysis, object assembly, and performance), and full scale IQ (P<0.05). The cognitive development of full-term singletons and twins born after ICSI did not show any significant differences. There was no significant difference between the parents of the singletons and twins in their characteristics where data were collected, including the age of the mothers, the current employment status, the educational backgrounds, and areas of residence. There were also no consistent differences in the duration of pregnancy, sex composition of the children, age, and height between singletons and twins at the time of our study although there existed significant differences between the two groups in the sex composition of the full-term children born after ICSI (P<0.05). Conclusions: Compared to the full-term singletons born after IVF, the full-term twins have lower cognitive development. The cognitive development of full-term singletons and twins born after ICSI did not show any significant differences. For all pre-term offspring, singletons and twins born after IVF or ICSI, the results of the cognitive development showed no significant differences.

Abstract:Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and being small for gestational age (SGA) are two distinct conditions with different implications for short- and long-term child development. SGA is present if the estimated fetal or birth weight is below the tenth percentile. IUGR can be identified by additional abnormalities (pathological Doppler sonography, oligohydramnion, lack of growth in the interval, estimated weight below the third percentile) and can also be present in fetuses and neonates with weights above the tenth percentile. There is a need to differentiate between IUGR and SGA whenever possible, as IUGR in particular is associated with greater perinatal morbidity, prematurity and mortality, as well as an increased risk for diseases in later life. Recognizing fetuses and newborns being "at risk" in order to monitor them accordingly and deliver them in good time, as well as to provide adequate follow up care to ameliorate adverse sequelae is still challenging. This review article discusses approaches to differentiate IUGR from SGA and further increase diagnostic accuracy. Since adverse prenatal influences increase but individually optimized further child development decreases the risk of later diseases, we also discuss the need for interdisciplinary follow-up strategies during childhood. Moreover, we present current concepts of pathophysiology, with a focus on oxidative stress and consecutive inflammatory and metabolic changes as key molecular mechanisms of adverse sequelae, and look at future scientific opportunities and challenges. Most importantly, awareness needs to be raised that pre- and postnatal care of IUGR neonates should be regarded as a continuum.

Physical growth and cognitive abilities in concordant versus discordant birth weight twins at three years old

Abstract:Background: Discordant birth weight twins have been shown to have high rates of adverse perinatal outcomes, but little is known about their growth and development. Aim: To determine whether smaller and larger birth weight premature twins in concordant and discordant birth weight groups differ on measures of physical growth and intelligence at 3 years. Study design: Prospective cohort study. Eight-four children, 52 concordant and 32 discordant birth weight twin pairs, were measured for height, weight, and head circumference and on intelligence at 3 years. Perinatal and demographic variables, including birth weight, head circumference, small for gestational age, zygosity, in vitro fertilization, gender and social class were recorded. Results: Smaller and larger birth weight twins did not differ significantly from each other on any growth parameters in either concordant or discordant birth weight groups at 3 years of age. Smaller birth weight twins in the discordant birth weight group performed significantly less well on Verbal, Performance, and Full Scale IQ scores (Verbal IQ for smaller twins was 8.6 points lower, p<0.005; Performance IQ, 11.9 points lower, p<0.03; Full Scale IQ, 12.4 points lower, p<0.004), but there were no significant intra-twin differences between larger and smaller birth weight concordant twins. Conclusions: Smaller discordant birth weight twins performed significantly less well on intelligence, although they did not differ significantly from their larger twins on growth parameters at 3 years old. We conclude that smaller discordant birth weight twins had less optimal intra-uterine environments than their larger birth weight twin, which affected both their birth weights and brain development.
Prediction of adverse pregnancy outcome in monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancy complicated by selective fetal growth restriction

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To identify key factors associated with adverse perinatal outcome in monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancy complicated by selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR).METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of all monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies diagnosed with sFGR at ≥ 16 weeks' gestation, in a single tertiary referral center between March 2000 and May 2015. The presence of coexisting twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) was noted. Fetal biometry and Doppler indices, including those of the umbilical artery (UA) and ductus venosus (DV), were recorded at the time of diagnosis. The type of sFGR was diagnosed according to the pattern of end-diastolic flow in the UA of the smaller twin. DV pulsatility indices for veins (DV-PIV) were converted to Z-scores and estimated fetal weight values to centiles, to correct for gestational age (GA). Cox proportional hazards model was used to examine for independent predictors of adverse perinatal outcome, which was defined according to survival and included both intrauterine fetal demise and neonatal death of the FGR twin.RESULTS: We analyzed 104 pregnancies, of which 66 (63.5%) were diagnosed with Type-I and 38 (36.5%) with Type-II sFGR at initial presentation. In pregnancies complicated by Type-II sFGR, the diagnosis of sFGR was made earlier than in those complicated by Type-I sFGR (mediam GA, 19.6 vs 21.5 weeks; P = 0.012), and Type-II sFGR was associated with increased risk of adverse perinatal outcome (intrauterine demise of the smaller twin, 34.2% vs 10.6%; P = 0.004). Twin pregnancies complicated by sFGR resulting in perinatal demise had a significantly earlier diagnosis (P = 0.002) and lower birth-weight centile of the smaller twin (P < 0.01), those with Type-I sFGR had earlier GA at delivery (P = 0.007) and those with Type-II sFGR had higher DV-PIV Z-score of the smaller twin (P = 0.003), when compared with pregnancies resulting in live birth. Coexisting TTTS had no significant impact on the perinatal outcome of pregnancies diagnosed with either Type-I or Type-II sFGR (P > 0.05 for both). Earlier GA at diagnosis (hazard ratio (HR), 0.70 (95% CI, 0.56-0.88); P = 0.002), Type-II sFGR (HR, 3.53 (95% CI, 1.37-9.07); P = 0.008) and higher DV-PIV Z-score (HR, 1.36 (95% CI, 1.12-1.65); P = 0.001) were significantly associated with increased risk of adverse perinatal outcome of the smaller twin.CONCLUSIONS: Pregnancies complicated by Type-II sFGR are diagnosed significantly earlier and are associated with increased risk of adverse perinatal outcome compared with those with Type-I sFGR. Coexisting TTTS has no significant impact on the perinatal outcome of pregnancies diagnosed with either Type-I or Type-II sFGR. Abstract:Objective: To determine whether it is the magnitude of early postnatal catch-up growth (CUG) in response to fetal growth restriction (FGR) or the FGR itself that negatively impacts cognitive outcome in a model of monochorionic twins discordant for fetal growth. Study design: This analysis is part of the LEMON study, a cohort study including all monochorionic twins with selective FGR aged 3 through 17 years. Growth measurements as documented by our primary care system were collected retrospectively. An age-appropriate neurodevelopmental test was performed generating a full-scale IQ (FSIQ). CUG at 2 years was calculated as (weight [kg] at 2 years-birth weight [kg]). We used a multivariable regression model investigating the association between FSIQ (outcome) and birth weight zscore, gestational age at birth and CUG at 2 years (predictors). Generalized estimating equations accounted for the fact that observations between cotwins are not independent. Results: Median age at follow-up of the 46 included twin pairs was 11 (IQR 8-13) years. Birth weight z score and gestational age at birth were significantly associated with FSIQ, with β-coefficients of 5.897 (95% CI 3.382-8.411), and 2.589 (95% CI 1.227-3.951), respectively (P < .0001). Adjusted for birth weight z score and gestational age, CUG in the first 2 years after birth was not significantly associated with FSIQ (β-coefficient 0.108 [95% CI -1.373 to 1.590], P = .886). Conclusions: Our results, combining detailed growth measurements and neurodevelopmental follow-up in a discordant identical twin model, demonstrate that FGR itself rather than early postnatal CUG has negative consequences for cognitive development.
Neonatal Hair Profiling Reveals a Metabolic Phenotype of Monochorionic Twins with Selective Intrauterine Growth Restriction and Abnormal Umbilical Artery Flow

Abstract:Background Selective intrauterine fetal growth restriction (sIUGR) in monochorionic diamniotic twins, especially types 2&3 with abnormal umbilical artery Doppler, results in increased risk of fetal/perinatal mortality and postnatal disability. We investigate whether the hair metabolome profiles of neonates were associated with the pathophysiological differences across the different clinical forms of sIUGR in twins. Methods Hair samples were collected at delivery from 10 pairs of type 1 sIUGR twins, 8 pairs of types 2&3 sIUGR twins, and 11 pairs of twins without sIUGR. The hair metabolome was characterized using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results Our results demonstrated that the hair metabolite profiles of the different sIUGR subclinical forms were associated with the averaged fetal growth rate after 28 weeks of gestation but not with birthweight. The hair profiles were capable of discriminating type2&3 sIUGR twins from twins without sIUGR. In particular, the metabolites 2-aminobutyric acid, cysteine, alanine, and tyrosine all displayed areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve were above 0.9. The metabolic pathway analysis highlighted the associations of sIUGR twins with abnormal umbilical artery flow with increased metabolites from a nutrient depletion pathway, glutathione metabolism, and nerve development. Conclusion This study offers novel insight into the severity of intrauterine ischemia and hypoxia for T2&3 sIUGR twins, through evaluation of the neonatal hair metabolome.
The changing Doppler patterns and perinatal outcomes of monochorionic diamniotic twins with selective fetal growth restriction

Abstract:To investigate the clinical outcomes and Doppler patterns changes in monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twins with selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR). We retrospectively analyzed 362 sFGR cases from January 2010 to May 2016 at a single tertiary referral center. The Doppler waveforms of umbilical artery end-diastolic flow were collected, and all neonates were subjected to an early neonatal brain scan. A total of 66/100 (66 %) type I cases were stable, whereas 25/100 (25 %) cases changed to type II and 9/100 (9 %) changed to sFGR complicated TTTS. A total of 48.9 % (22/45) sFGR cases were complicated with polyhydramnios and 30.4 % (7/23) sFGR cases were complicated with oligohydramnios, both of which were progressed to sFGR with TTTS. Mild cerebral injury was significantly associated with Doppler flow abnormalities, earlier gestational age at delivery and type of sFGR diagnosis. Severe cerebral injury was significantly associated with gestational age at delivery (31.6 vs. 34.1, p=0.002) and larger birthweight discordance (43.9 vs. 29.3 %, p=0.011). Doppler patterns in sFGR can gradually change, with important consequences with regard to management and outcomes. Along with abnormal Doppler findings, earlier occurrence of sFGR and delivery are associated with subsequent neonatal cerebral injury.

Abstract:Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is caused by many factors, and most newborns with IUGR are small for gestational age (SGA). SGA infants have a relatively high risk of death and disease in the perinatal period, and the nervous system already has structural changes in the uterus, including the reduction of brain volume and gray matter volume, accompanied by abnormal imaging and pathological changes. IUGR fetuses undergo intrauterine blood flow redistribution to protect brain blood supply, and there are still controversies over the clinical effect of brain protection mechanism. SGA infants have a relatively high risk of abnormal cognitive, motor, language, and behavioral functions in the neonatal period and childhood, and preterm infants tend to have a higher degree of neurological impairment than full-term infants. Early intervention may help to improve the function of the nervous system.
Insecure attachment and internalizing behavior problems in growth discordant identical twins

Abstract:Background: Psychosocial development in monochorionic (MC) twins born after selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR) has been unreported to date, despite its importance for daily functioning and future relationships. Aims: To investigate psychosocial development, attachment and school functioning in MC twins with sFGR and compare outcomes with the general population and between smaller and larger twins. Study design: Observational cohort study. Subjects: MC twins with sFGR (defined as a birth weight discordance ≥20 %) born between 2002 and 2017 and aged 3-17 years. Outcome measures: Multiple parent report questionnaires: the Child Behavior Checklist (social-emotional development and behavior), the (Early) Childhood Behavior Questionnaire Very Short Form (temperament), the Attachment Insecurity Screening Inventory (attachment) and a school functioning questionnaire. Results: Median age for the 48 twin pairs was 11 (interquartile range (IQR) 8-13) years. Attachment insecurity for both twins was higher than in the general population for ambivalence/resistance (34 % (21/62) vs. 16 %, p = 0.024) and total attachment insecurity (35 % (22/62) vs. 16 %, p = 0.016). Smaller twins had more internalizing behavioral problems, i.e. negative emotions and behaviors turned inwards (22 % (10/46) vs. 11 % (5/46), p = 0.021) and a higher negative affect, i.e. more likely to experience negative emotions (3.2 (2.9-3.7) vs. 2.9 (2.2-3.2), p = 0.009) than larger twins, as well as a lower secondary school level (p = 0.031). Conclusion: MC twins with sFGR have more ambivalent/resistant attachment insecurity following the complicated pregnancy course. Smaller twins have a tendency towards negative emotions and internalizing behaviors compared to larger twins, indicating an increased sensitivity for depression and anxiety.
