Abstract:Because of high surface area and combination of various functional groups, graphene oxide (GO) is currently one of the most actively studying materials for electroanalytical applications. Self-supported GO is not practical enough to be utilized individually and thus is commonly integrated with different supporting carriers. Having large lateral size GO can only wrap the particles of the support and thus, can significantly reduce the surface area of porous materials. To reach synergy form high surface area and polyfunctional nature of GO, and a rigid structure of porous support, the lateral size of GO must be essentially decreased. Recently reported graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) can fulfill this task. We report successful preparation of mesoporous silica supported GOQDs exhibiting strong luminescent band with the maximum at 404 nm. From N2 adsorption isotherms, it was demonstrated that the surface area of the resulted hybrid material was augmented. Raman spectrum of SiO2-GOQDs shows two distinct peaks at 1585 cm-1(G-peak) and 1372 cm-1 (D-peak) indicating presence ordered basal plane of graphene with aromatic sp2 domains, and disordered oxygen-containing structure. Covalent immobilization of GOQDs on aminosilica via such oxygen-containing fragments was proved by FTIR, MAS 13C MNR, and XPS spectroscopy. SiO2-GOQDs was used as a modifier of carbon paste electrode for differential pulse voltammetry determination of four environmental: sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim, diethylstilbestrol (DES), and estriol (EST). The modified electrodes demonstrated an essential decrease in LOD for EST (220%) and DES (760%), which was explained by significant pi-pi stacking interaction between GOQDs and aromatic system of the analytes.

Abstract:Graphene oxide functionalized silica microspheres (GO@SiO2) were synthesized based on condensation reaction between amino from aminosilica particles and carboxyl groups from GO. Reduction of GO@SiO2 with hydrazinium hydroxide generated graphene modified silica particles (G@SiO2). GO@SiO2 and G@SiO2 packed capillary columns for capillary electrochromatography were thereafter fabricated by pressure slurry packing with single‐particle frits. GO of 0.3 mg/mL in dispersion solution for GO@SiO2 synthesis was considered as a compromise between retaining and column efficiency whereas GO@SiO2 of 20 mg/mL in slurries for column packing was chosen for a homogenous and tight bed. Optimum mobile phases were acquired considering both electroosmotic flow and resolution at an applied voltage of −6 kV as the following: acetonitrile/phosphate buffer (10 mM, pH 7.0), 75:25 (v/v) for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and 50:50 (v/v) for aromatic compounds. A comparison was made between electrochromatographic performances for three PAHs (naphthalene, fluorene and phenanthrene) and three aromatic compounds of various polarities (toluene, aniline and phenol) on bare aminosilica, GO@SiO2 and G@SiO2 packed columns, which proved the contribution of alone or combinational actions of solvophobic effect and π‐π electron stacking as well as hydrogen bonds to retaining behaviors by GO@SiO2 and G@SiO2. Well over‐run, over‐day and over‐column precisions (retention time: 0.3–1.4, 1.1–3.8 and 2.8–5.2%, respectively; peak area: 2.6–6.5, 4.8–8.3 and 6.5–12.6%, respectively) of GO@SiO2 packed columns were a powerful proof for good reproducibility. Analytical characteristics of GO@SiO2 packed capillary columns in CEC analysis of fresh water were evaluated with respect to linearity (R2 = 0.9961–0.9989) over the range 0.1 to 100 mg/L and detection limits of 9.5 for naphthalene, 12.6 for fluorene and 16.2 μg/L for phenanthrene. Further application to fresh water increased the visibility of the proposed material, where good spike recoveries in the range 89–96% were offered.
Cochlear Implantation in Patients With Bilateral Severe Sensorineural Hearing Loss After Major Blunt Head Trauma

Abstract:Objective: To highlight issues that impact on cochlear implant candidacy and performance in individuals who have severe bilateral sensorineural hearing loss after major blunt head trauma. Study Design: Retrospective case review. Setting: Tertiary level neurotology center. Patients: Twenty-five patients treated at our institution for severe hearing loss after blunt head trauma Intervention: Assessment of cochlear implant candidacy criteria and postimplant outcomes in patients presenting with severe hearing loss after major blunt head trauma Main Outcome Measures: Cause of injury, pure tone audiology, open set speech perception (preimplant and postimplant), promontory stimulation, and imaging results. Results: Of the 25 patients with severe hearing loss, 11 ultimately underwent cochlear implantation. Fall from a height was the most common cause of injury. Five patients experienced bilateral temporal bone fractures. Seventeen patients satisfied candidacy criteria for implantation. For those patients who did undergo cochlear implantation, the mean postimplant open set speech recognition score was 71. Issues related to cochlear implant candidacy and outcomes for implantation will be discussed. Conclusion: Severe hearing loss after major blunt head trauma presents a number of unique clinical challenges. A significant number of these patients are not suitable for cochlear implantation for a variety of reasons. Clinicians working in the area of cochlear implantation should be aware of the various problems that can impact on effective cochlear implantation in such patients.

Abstract:In this study, magnetic mesoporous silica-Fe3O4-graphene oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4@GO@mSiO2) were synthesized and used as sorbents for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of trace amounts of quercetin in natural samples (spinach, green pepper, dill, and red onion). The sorbent produced was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The effects of various experimental factors on the percent recovery of quercetin, including extraction time, desorption time, sample solution pH, and adsorbent amount were investigated. The Fe3O4@GO@mSiO2 strategy showed excellent stability and sensitivity for the determination of quercetin, with a suitable linear range of 20-800 µg L-1 and a detection limit of 5.2 µg L-1. The data indicate that Fe3O4@GO@mSiO2 has a specific surface area and suitable adsorption capacity for the determination of quercetin.

Abstract:Mesoporous silica materials (MSMs) are widely used materials in many applications due to their diverse pore structures. However, the electrical conductivity of MSMs is poor which limits their use in electrochemical applications. In this study, widely used MSMs of different structural properties such as MCM-41, MCM-48, SBA-15, and SBA-16 were synthesized and reinforced with graphene oxide (GO) to obtain conductive composite supports for enzyme immobilization. MSMs were first synthesized using a hydrothermal method and characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray, and MAPPING techniques. Aqueous dispersion of GO:MSM composites were prepared with as-synthesized materials and coated on screen-printed electrodes (SPE). The best composites were chosen based on their electroanalytical performance. Glucose oxidase (GOx) was then immobilized on modified SPEs using a simple drop-casting method to produce enzymatic electrodes. The electroanalytical performance of the enzymatic electrodes was investigated using different glucose concentrations to demonstrate biocatalytic activity. Stability tests were performed using intraday and interday measurements which revealed that SPE/GO:MCM-41/GOx electrode showed a more stable performance (3-folds) than SPE/GO/GOx electrode. This study presents an investigation of MSM mixed with GO in enzymatic electrochemical systems providing insight into the use of such materials to preserve enzyme activity.

Abstract:In this work, we have studied the interaction between graphene oxide (GO) and the biomolecules immobilized on an electrode surface, which has been further employed to develop new kind of biosensors by fabricating gammaglutamyltransferase (gamma-GGT) sensor as an example. Specifically, glutathione (GSH) is firstly immobilized on the surface of a gold electrode, and GO nanosheet is introduced to recognize the charge change of GSH caused by the catalysis of gamma-GGT. Then, the introduction of reductant and Ag+ induces silver deposition and partial reduction of GO, forming GO-AgNPs complex for electrochemical readout. Since this complex may have excellent electric conductivity and the solid-state voltammetry of Ag/AgCl can provide a well-defined symmetrically sharp silver stripping peak, a sensitive electrochemical biosensor for the detection of gamma-GGT is thus developed. Moreover, the experimental results obtained in this work indicate that GO itself can serve as a general recognition element for biosensor fabrication and GO-AgNPs can be a promising material in a general sensing platform, so such kind of more biosensors can be developed in the future.

Abstract:In this study, we present the preparation of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs). GQDs/GOQDs are prepared by an easy electrochemical exfoliation method, in which two graphite rods are used as electrodes. The electrolyte used is a combination of citric acid and alkali hydroxide in water. Four types of quantum dots, GQD1-GQD4, are prepared by varying alkali hydroxide concentration in the electrolyte, while keeping the citric acid concentration fixed. Variation of alkali hydroxide concentration in the electrolyte results in the production of GOQDs. Balanced reaction of citric acid and alkali hydroxide results in the production of GQDs (GQD3). However, three variations in alkali hydroxide concentration result in GOQDs (GQD1, GQD2, and GQD4). GOQDs show tunable oxygen functional groups, which are confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. GQDs/GOQDs show absorption in the UV region and show excitation-dependent photoluminescence behavior. The obtained average size is 2-3 nm, as revealed by transmission electron microscopy. X-ray diffraction peak at around 10° and broad D band peak at 1350 cm-1 in Raman spectra confirm the presence of oxygen-rich functional groups on the surface of GOQDs. These GQDs and GOQDs show blue to green luminescence under 365 nm UV irradiation.

Postactivation Potentiation Enhances Upper- and Lower-Body Athletic Performance in Collegiate Male and Female Athletes

Abstract:Abstract Evetovich, TK, Conley, DS, and McCawley, PF. Postactivation potentiation enhances upper- and lower-body athletic performance in collegiate male and female athletes. J Strength Cond Res 29(2): 336–342, 2015—The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of postactivation potentiation (PAP)-inducing activities in 4 separate studies examining vertical (VJP) and horizontal (HJP) jump performance, shot put performance (SPP), and sprint performance (SP), in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II athletes. Study 1: 12 male (mean ± SD; age = 20.2 ± 2.0 years; height = 178.1 ± 6.2 cm; weight = 73.3 ± 6.43 kg) and 8 female (age = 20.1 ± 1.0 years; height = 169.6 ± 5.5 cm; weight = 59.8 ± 7.6 kg) track athletes participated in HJP and VJP testing before and after performing a parallel back squat (PBS) at 85% 1 repetition maximum (RM). Study 2: 10 (6 men and 4 women) shot put throwers (age = 20.6 ± 0.7 years; height = 182.1 ± 9.8 cm; weight = 102.8 ± 23.6 kg) participated in SPP testing for control (C), 3RM bench press, and 3RM PBS protocols. Study 3: 7 football players (age = 20.4 ± 1.6 years; weight = 87.8 ± 8.3 kg; height = 184.3 ± 7.2 cm) participated in SP testing before (PBS1) and after (PBS2) performing a 3RM PBS. Study 4: 11 football players (age = 20.3 ± 1.8 years; height = 180.6 ± 7.5 cm; weight = 86.1 ± 12.8 kg) participated in VJP testing for C and 3RM PBS protocols. Results of study 1: There was a significant (p ⩽ 0.05) increase in VJP (PRE = 61.9 ± 12.3 cm; POST = 63.6 ± 11.6 cm) and HJP (PRE = 93.7 ± 11.0 cm; POST = 95.9 ± 11.5 cm). Study 2: SPP after PBS (11.67 ± 1.92 m) was not different vs. C (11.77 ± 1.81), but bench press (11.91 ± 1.81 m) was significantly greater (p ⩽ 0.05) than both PBS and C. Study 3: SP time was significantly lower for PBS2 (4.6014 ± 0.17995 seconds) vs. PB1 (4.6557 ± 0.19603 seconds). Study 4: There was no difference in VJP for C (68.35 ± 2.16 cm) vs. PBS (68.12 ± 2.51 cm). Our data show that a 3RM PBS resulted in significant improvements in VJP, HJP, SPP, and SP in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II male and female athletes. Strength and conditioning practitioners should potentially alter their warm-up programs to include PAP protocols to enhance performance of power athletes. However, there were nonresponders in each study, and coaches and athletes need to determine whether it is worthwhile to identify nonresponders before implementing PAP protocols.
Coats Disease in a 14-year-Old Boy Treated with Intravitreal Ranibizumab and Retinal Laser Photocoagulation

Abstract:Coats disease was first described in 1908, by George Coats [1]. Since then, numerous articles have been published on its clinical features and variations, pathology, possible pathogenesis, differential diagnosis, and treatment. It is a sporadic non-hereditary disease not associated with any identifiable systemic abnormalities [2]. In order to avoid confusion and according to a study published in 2001 by Shields et al., Coats disease was defined as an idiopathic congenital retinal telangiectasia accompanied by intraretinal and/or subretinal exudation without appreciable vitreoretinal traction [3]. Other clinical features of this entity are young age at the time of presentation (mean age at diagnosis, 10 years), male predilection (≥75% of cases occurring in males), and unilateral affection (approximately 95% of the patients have unilateral disease) [1–3]. Although the differential diagnosis of Coats disease includes many ocular diseases, it must primarily be differentiated from retinoblastoma [2]. When the main clinical and demographic features of the disease are not met, diagnosis is questionable. In the early stages of Coats disease, treatment mainly aims at obliterating the telangiectasias using laser photocoagulation and/or cryotherapy [2, 3]. In advanced cases, surgical intervention combined with photocoagulation or cryotherapy may be required [2, 3]. A painful eye due to secondary glaucoma in end stages often requires enucleation [2, 3]. Recent research of the pathogenetic mechanisms of the disease suggests a possible role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) [2, 4]. Additionally, published case series support the beneficial role of anti-VEGF therapy as an adjuvant therapy in Coats disease [4]. We report a case of Coats disease in a 14year-old male patient that was treated with intravitreal administration of ranibizumab and laser photocoagulation.
Graphene Oxide Quantum Dots Exfoliated From Carbon Fibers by Microwave Irradiation: Two Photoluminescence Centers and Self-Assembly Behavior.

Abstract:Graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) attract great attention for their unique properties and promising application potential. The difficulty in the formation of a confined structure, and the numerous and diverse oxygen-containing functional groups results in a low emission yield to GOQDs. Here, GOQDs with a size of about 5 nm, exfoliated from carbon fibers by microwave irradiation, are detected and analyzed. The exfoliated GOQDs are deeply oxidized and induce large numbers of epoxy groups and ether bonds, but only a small amount of carbonyl groups and hydroxyl groups. The subdomains of sp2 clusters, involving epoxy groups and ether bonds, are responsible for the two strong photoluminescence emissions of GOQDs under different excitation wavelengths. Moreover, GOQDs tend to self-assemble at the edges of their planes to form self-assembly films (SAFs) with the evaporation of water. SAFs can further assemble into different 3D patterns with unique microstructures such as sponge bulk, sponge ball, microsheet, sisal, and schistose coral, which are what applications such as supercapacitors, cells, catalysts, and electrochemical sensors need. This method for preparation of GOQDs is easy, quick, and environmentally friendly, and this work may open up new research interests about GOQDs.

Abstract:An upright GO (UGO) modified screen-printed electrode was prepared with the help of the external magnetic field for improving its electrochemical performance. The ratio of GO: Nafion and the magnetic field intensity on the properties of UGO were examined by scanning electron microscope, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The magnetic field intensity does not influence the electron transfer kinetics but increase the number of active sites and therefore enhance the electroactive surface area. In addition, the UGO electrode that was electrodeposited Ni nanoparticles (denotes as Ni NPs/UGO modified electrode) display excellent oxidation towards glycine using chronoamperometry. The Ni NPs/UGO modified electrode indicated an excellent performance for electrochemical COD (chemical oxide demand) analysis with a linear detection range of 0.1400 mg/L and a lower detection limit of 0.02 mg/L. Moreover, this Ni NPs/UGO modified electrode can be applied to the rapid determination of COD in general real water samples. The results were in agreement with those obtained by using the standard method (ISO 6060).
A facile and general route for the synthesis of semiconductor quantum dots on reduced graphene oxide sheets

Abstract:Owing to its unique graphitized basal plane nanostructure and intriguing physicochemical properties, graphene is considered as an ideal support for developing nanocomposites for various applications. In this study, a facile and general method was developed for the first time to synthesize a variety of semiconductor quantum dots (SQDs) supported on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets, including RGO/metal oxide and RGO/metal sulfide nanocomposites. The as-prepared nanocomposites were investigated by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. It was found that by using octadecylamine (ODA) as both reductive and dispersing agent, the resulting metal oxide and sulfide SQDs were all homogeneously decorated on the surface of RGO sheets. The optical properties of the as-synthesized RGO/SQDs nanocomposites were studied through ultraviolet-visible and photoluminescence spectroscopy. To demonstrate one potential application, the RGO/NiO nanocomposites were used as electrode materials for electrochemical supercapacitors, which exhibit enhanced capacitive performance and long cycle life. It is expected that our prepared RGO/SQDs nanocomposites could serve as promising candidates for power source, catalysis, optical sensitizer and optoelectronic applications.
Yellowish and blue luminescent graphene oxide quantum dots prepared via a microwave-assisted hydrothermal route using H2O2 and KMnO4 as oxidizing agents

Abstract:Graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) with different oxygenation levels were successfully prepared using a facile, rapid, and cost-effective microwave-assisted hydrothermal method under neutral conditions using hydrogen peroxide (MGOH) or potassium permanganate (MGOK) as an oxidizing agent. GOQDs with an average diameter of 7–12 nm for both MGOH and MGOK samples were observed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analyses revealed that MGOH exhibited a high quantity of C–O and CO groups in its structure, whereas MGOK consisted of highly ordered sp2/sp3 bonds in its aromatic unit and had less oxygenated functional groups. The photoluminescence measurements showed that MGOH and MGOK QDs emitted yellowish-green and blue light with quantum yields of 15.1% and 8.4%, respectively. The luminescence mechanisms of MOGK and MGOH were attributed to π–π* and n–π* electron transitions in C–C/CC bonds and in π* states to non-bonding oxygen states, respectively. Density functional theory calculations were employed to determine the optical absorption of GOQDs in terms of surface functional groups and oxygenation degrees. Theoretical calculations demonstrate that the high oxygenation degree of GOQDs resulted in band gap reduction and light absorption due to electron transitions. Our theoretical and experimental results suggested that GOQDs with high quantum yields can serve as promising materials in applications including biosensing, imaging, and labeling.

Abstract:Graphene oxide (GO) is a chemical compound with a form similar to graphene that consists of one-atom-thick two-dimensional layers of sp2-bonded carbon. Graphene oxide exhibits high hydrophilicity and dispersibility. Thus, it is difficult to be separated from aqueous solutions. Therefore, functionalization with magnetic nanoparticles is performed in order to prepare a magnetic GO nanocomposite that combines the sufficient adsorption capacity of graphene oxide and the convenience of magnetic separation. Moreover, the magnetic material can be further functionalized with different groups to prevent aggregation and extends its potential application. Until today, a plethora of magnetic GO hybrid materials have been synthesized and successfully employed for the magnetic solid-phase extraction of organic compounds from environmental, agricultural, biological, and food samples. The developed GO nanocomposites exhibit satisfactory stability in aqueous solutions, as well as sufficient surface area. Thus, they are considered as an alternative to conventional sorbents by enriching the analytical toolbox for the analysis of trace organic compounds.

Preparation of graphene oxide quantum dots from waste toner, and their application to a fluorometric DNA hybridization assay

Abstract:A one-pot hydrothermal method was developed for the synthesis of graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs). It is making use of toner waste as the precursor and H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub> as the oxidant. Synthesis takes 4 h and does not require strong acids or complex purification steps and does not produce environmentally harmful metal ions. The GOQDs display blue fluorescence with excitation/emission maxima at 340/445 nm. The feasibility of detecting specific DNA sequence was promoted using polyethyleneimine to modify the GOQDs surface. A method was developed to recognized a specific DNA sequence. This is based on electrostatic aggregation of GOQDs and ssDNA labeled with Dabcyl at the 3′ end, which promotes fluorescence quenching of GOQDs. The possible fluorescence quenching mechanism (which is mainly dynamic) was investigated using the Stern-Volmer equation. When a target sequence was added, which is complementary to the ssDNA, the dabcyl-labeled ssDNA is released due to strict complementary base pairing. This promotes fluorescence recovery of GOQDs. The assay has a 0.17 nM detection limit and a linear range of 0.5–30 nM. The method was used to quantify specific DNA sequences from extracts of genetically modified plant tissues.Graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) were synthesized by one-pot hydrothermal method using waste toner, and the surface was modified by polyethyleneimine (PEI). Through the interaction of PEI-GOQDs with Dabcyl-DNA single strands to dynamically quench the fluorescence of GOQDs. Based on DNA hybridization technology, we established specific DNA sequence detection nanoprobe.

Abstract:Functionalized nanocomposites based on various type of graphene nanomaterials including graphene, graphene oxides (GOs), and doped graphene (oxides) are widely used as materials for various sensors that can display high sensitivity, selectivity and stability. This review with 347 references summarizes advances in the preparation and functionalization of graphene nanocomposites for the application of electrochemical sensors and biosensors. Following a general introduction into the field, the article is divided into subsections on (a) the synthesis and functionalization of nanocomposites (made from graphene, various kinds of GOs, heteroatom-doped GOs), (b) on methods for functionalization of composites (with other carbon nanomaterials, metal nanoparticles, metal oxide and metal sulfide nanoparticles), (c) on functionalization with inorganic materials including polyoxometalates, hexacyanoferrates, minerals), (d) on functionalization with organic materials such as amino acids, surfactants, organic dyes, ionic liquids, macrocycles (including cyclodextrins, crown ethers and calixarenes), and (e) on functionalization with organometallics and with various other organic compounds, (f) on functionalizations with polymers such as conventional polymers, polyelectrolytes, conducting polymers, molecularly imprinted polymers, (g) on functionalization with biomolecules including proteins and nucleic acids. Other subsections cover flexible graphene and GO based nanocomposites and 3D composites. Application of graphene and GO nanocomposites are then covered in a in large section that comprises electrochemical sensors and biosensors (based on voltammetry, amperometry, potentiometry, impedimetry, electrochemiluminescence, photoelectrochemistry, field effect transistors, electrochemical immunosensors) with specific subsections on gas sensors, enzymatic biosensors and gene sensors. Abstract:Graphene has a unique atom-thick two-dimensional structure and excellent properties, including high conductiv-ity and electron mobility at room temperature, large specific surface area, and excellent mechanical properties. Graphene also possesses a variety of promising electrochemical properties, such as a wide potential window, low charge-transfer resistance, high electrocatalytic activity and fast electron transfer rate. Furthermore, chemically modified graphene materials, particu-larly graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), can be produced in a large scale and at low costs. They have good processability and can be assembled, blended or fabricated into macroscopic electrode materials with controlled compo-sitions and microstructures. Thus, graphene and its chemically modified derivatives are unique and attractive electrode materials for electrochemical biosensing. For example, GO is a chemically modified graphene and an important precursor of graphene. GO sheets have a large amount of carboxyl groups at their edges, which can be used to covalently immobilize en-zymes, realizing the detection of biomolecules. GO can also enhance the direct charge transfer of protein because of its irre-versible adsorption to protein and abundant catalytic sites. However, the oxygen functional groups of GO heavily destroy the conjugated planes of graphene sheets, decreasing the electrical property and limiting the practical applications of GO. Chemical, electrochemical, or thermal reduction can partly restore the conjugated structure, converting GO to conductive rGO. On the other hand, graphene is a material with zero band gap. Doping graphene with heteroatoms can modulate its band gap and improve its electrocatalytic properties. Graphene materials also frequently have to be blended with other functional materials to improve their dispersibility and processibility, enhance their electrochemical activity and/or selectivity. This review will summarize the recent research achievements in electrochemical biosensing based on the electrodes modified with pristine graphene ( e.g . GO, rGO, and doped graphene) or graphene composites with biomolecules, polymers, ionic liquids, metal and metal oxide nanoparticles. A perspective of developments in this research field is also provided.

Abstract:Three-dimensional (3D) graphene-based nanomaterials have shown wide applications in electrochemical fields such as biosensors. In this study, we displayed a simple fabrication of 3D structural reduced graphene oxide (3D structural RGO) decorated with molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS2QDs) through a three-step reaction process. With its abundant raw materials, this strategy is economic and non-toxic. Various characterization techniques were utilized to characterize the morphologies of the synthesized MoS2QDs, graphene oxide (GO), and 3D structural RGO-MoS2QDs composites. Simultaneously, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was applied to characterize the structure and properties of composites. In order to understand the effects of the reaction period on the structure of 3D structural RGO-MoS2QDs, a series of samples with various reaction periods were prepared for morphological characterization. Finally, the fabricated 3D structural RGO-MoS2QDs composites were used to modify a glassy carbon electrode as an electrochemical non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor. The obtained results indicate that the fabricated electrochemical H2O2 sensor exhibits a wide detection range (0.01–5.57 mM), low detection limit (1.90 μM), good anti-interference performance, and long-time stability (18 days).

Abstract:This paper discusses the synthesis and application of graphene oxide (GO)/1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [BMIM][BF4] nanocomposite. The nanocomposite, GO/[BMIM][BF4],was characterized using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and Raman techniques. The dispersion of [BMIM][BF4] ionic liquid (IL) in the graphene oxide nanochannels provided remarkable interfacial properties to the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface. The GO/[BMIM][BF4]modified GCE sensor enhanced the anodic peak current intensity of Embramine (EMB), which was found to be proportional to the drug concentration within the range of 4.9 to 24.7 ng/L, with a detection limit of 1.5 ng/L and the quantification limit of 4.6 ng/L. The redox behavior at varying scan rates revealed that the electro-oxidation process of EMB at GO/IL/GCE was an irreversible diffusion-controlled process. The applicability of the proposed method was further studied for the successful quantification of EMB in the pharmaceutical formulation and human blood plasma.
