Abstract:Carbon fiber (CF) is a significant multifunction material, which is extensively used in aircraft because of its superb performance. However, its microwave absorption properties (MAPs) are seriously restricted as a result of the impedance mismatch issue. To address this issue, an efficient strategy is conducted by a series of CF@MoS2 and CF@MoS2@Fe3O4 composites that are fabricated by in-situ grown MoS2 nanosheets (MoS2-NS) and Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4-NPs) on the surface of CF. The results of microwave absorption performance (MAP) reveal that the minimum reflection loss (RL) can reach -21.4 dB with a CF@MoS2 composite coating thickness of 3.8 mm; the effective attenuation bandwidth (RL < -10 dB, i.e., 90% microwave energy is attenuated) is up to 10.85 GHz (7.15-18.0 GHz). From a detailed analysis, it is observed impedance mismatch is the critical limiting factor for MAPs rather than attenuation. Furthermore, for CF@MoS2@Fe3O4, the MAP is strongly dependent on the level of coating of magnetic Fe3O4-NPs on the surface of CF@MoS2 composites. The mechanisms underlying the superb MAP and related phenomena are investigated, opening new directions for fabricating CF-based microwave absorbers with high efficiency and wide-bandwidth. Finally, the occurrence of multi-reflection phenomena of EM waves in absorbers are critically analyzed. (C) 2020 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
Core@shell structured flower-like Co0.6Fe2.4O4@MoS2 nanocomposites: a strong absorption and broadband electromagnetic wave absorber

Abstract:In order to obtain the excellent comprehensive properties of microwave absorbers (MAs), core@shell structured Co0.6Fe2.4O4@MoS2 nanocomposites were elaborately constructed and synthesized by a facile two-step hydrothermal method. Due to the independence of the two-step processes, the method could be applied to produce different categories of MoS2 based nanocomposites. The obtained results demonstrated that the as-prepared Co0.6Fe2.4O4@MoS2 nanocomposites exhibited superior electromagnetic wave absorption performances with very low minimum reflection loss (RLmin) value and broad absorption bandwidth at thin matching thicknesses. Impressively, the optimal RLmin value reached -79.9 dB at 11.2 GHz with a thickness of 2.73 mm, and an effective bandwidth of 5.96 GHz was observed with thicknesses of 2.34 and 2.98 mm. Taking into account their the low cost of production, high stability and controllability, the obtained results demonstrated that the Co0.6Fe2.4O4@MoS2 nanocomposites achieved in this study are very attractive candidates for new types of high performance MAs. Moreover, we believe that constructing core@shell structured MoS2-based nanocomposites is a reliable strategy to accelerate advancements of MAs.
Hierarchical Fe3o4/Fe@C@Mos2 Core-Shell Nanofibers For Efficient Microwave Absorption

Abstract:Designing one-dimensional (1D) magnetic-carbon composites microwave absorbers is a promising strategy that can meet the current demand for high-performance microwave absorption (MA) materials. In this work, hierarchical structured Fe3O4/Fe@C@MoS2 nanofibers were successfully obtained via a simple three-step method. 1D Fe3O4/Fe@C nanofibers were fabricated through electrospinning technology and in-situ polymerization followed by carbonization and reduction in H-2/N-2 atmosphere. MoS2 nanosheets grew irregularly on the surface of 1D Fe3O4/Fe@C nanofibers to form the flower-like structure. The morphology, composition and magnetism of samples were systematically investigated. Furthermore, electromagnetic characteristics and MA properties of Fe3O4/Fe@C nanofibers and Fe3O4/Fe@C@MoS2 nanofibers were compared. The minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of Fe3O4/Fe@C@MoS2 nanofibers could reach -53.79 dB at 11.12 GHz and the corresponding absorption bandwidth (RL < -10 dB) of 4.4 GHz was achieved at the absorber thickness of 2.24 mm. This work combines electrospinning technology with traditional chemical synthesis to prepare a novel 1D core-shell microwave absorber, which provides some inspiration for preparing MA material in the future. Abstract:Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), as a significant microwave absorption materials, has been widely reported. However, it is unclear and insufficient about its microwave absorption mechanism. In this work, a series of MoS2-based materials with different morphology, including MoS2 nanosheets (MoS2-NS), hierarchical MoS2 (H-MoS2) microspheres, hollow hierarchical MoS2 (HH-MoS2) microspheres and hydrangea-like MoS2/C (MoS2/C) microspheres, were synthesized via hydrothermal reaction. More importantly, the microwave absorption mechanism and the dielectric properties as well as microwave absorption performance (MAP) were systemically studied. The results indicated that MoS2/C exhibited eminent dielectric properties and MAP, which resulted from the unique structure and component. The minimum reflection loss (RL) value of MoS2/C microspheres/wax with 30 wt% loading is -44.67 dB at the thickness of 1.4 mm, and the corresponding bandwidth with effective attenuation (RL < -10 dB) is up to 3.32 GHz (11.7-15.02 GHz). Abstract:In this work, we designed the flower-like structure of 1T/2H-MoS2@α-Fe2O3 nanocomposites with high-efficiency microwave absorption, in which the α-Fe2O3 microdrums are attached to the surface of 1T/2H-MoS2 constituting a special flower-like morphology. During the synthesis process, the content of α-Fe2O3 microdrums play a significant constructive role in the dielectric properties and impedance matching characteristics of the 1T/2H-MoS2@α-Fe2O3 nanocomposites. The optimal reflection loss (RL) value of the flower-like nanocomposites can reach -61.18 dB at low frequency (6.52 GHz), while the RL value also obtains -56.98 dB at 4.43 GHz with the lower frequency. Furthermore, the frequency bandwidth below -10 dB was up to 4.68 GHz with effective absorption frequency range of 13.32-18 GHz when the thickness is 1.82 mm. The results show that excellent electromagnetic wave absorption capabilities of the 1T/2H-MoS2@α-Fe2O3 nanocomposites in the low frequency is mainly benefit from the perfect coordination of multiphase MoS2 and α-Fe2O3 microdrums, which makes it achieve perfect impedance matching in the low frequency. This provides a simple demonstration for the development of high-efficient electromagnetic wave absorption materials in the low frequency.

Abstract:In this article, the CoFe2O4/MoS2 composites have been well constructed via a facial hydrothermal method, from which the porous CoFe2O4 microspheres were embedded into MoS2 ultrathin nanosheets. As a typical two-dimensional transition metal sulfide, MoS2 with high electrical conductivity and flexible properties is expected to exhibit high dielectric loss and magnetic loss when combined with magnetic material CoFe2O4. Meanwhile, the unique hierarchical structure of as-synthesized MoS2 nanoflowers is conducive to scattering and reflection of electromagnetic waves, and endows designed composites with competitive microwave absorption properties. Notably, although the saturation magnetization of MoS2/CoFe2O4 composites is significantly decreased compared to pure CoFe2O4 microspheres, the coercivity still maintains a high value of 626.1 Oe. As expected, the results demonstrate that as-fabricated MoS2/CoFe2O4 composites do have superior microwave absorption properties in comparison with CoFe2O4 and MoS2. It is found that the complex permittivity is enhanced with increasing filling ratio from 45 wt% to 60 wt%, which is helpful for obtaining a moderate permittivity value. When the filling ratio is 50 wt%, the MoS2/CoFe2O4 composites exhibit a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of − 53.1 dB at 12.08 GHz when the thickness is 2.5 mm. An effective absorption bandwidth less than − 10 dB of 6.61 GHz from 11.28 to 17.89 GHz is achieved with a thin thickness of 2.2 mm, almost covering the whole Ku-band. The improvement in microwave absorption properties can be ascribed to the synergistic effect of the magnetic CoFe2O4 and dielectric MoS2. The impedance matching characteristic and interfacial polarization are significantly optimized by inserting CoFe2O4 spheres onto the surface of MoS2 nanosheets. Considering the excellent performance of as-fabricated MoS2/CoFe2O4 composites, it is believed that the MoS2-based composites can be applied as a promising candidate of highly effective microwave absorbers with strong absorption intensity and broad absorption frequency.

Abstract:In this work, one-dimensional (1D) ZnFe2O4@carbon@MoS2/FeS2 composites were synthesized by hydrothermal method, magnetic-field-induced distillation-precipitation polymerization and high-temperature carbonization. The structure, morphology, composition, magnetic performance and electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbing properties of the composites were systematically studied. The composites show strong microwave absorption (MA) capacity with a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) value of -52.5 dB at 13.2 GHz, and have an effective absorption frequency range of 10.10-15.08 GHz with a bandwidth of 4.98 GHz when the thickness is 2.23 mm. It is expected that as-synthesized 1D ZnFe2O4@carbon@MoS2/FeS2 composites can be a promising EM wave absorption material.

Abstract:Advanced electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbing materials are technologically important with extensively increasing utilization of EM waves in the gigahertz range. Hierarchical structure containing FeCo nanoparticles composited with MoS2 nanoflowers was developed as an effective EM wave absorber. Large surface area and sufficient voids provided by the MoS2 nanoflowers enable uniformly dispersed FeCo nanoparticles with single domain size for enhanced permeability and natural resonance. Existence of the large amount of the FeCo/MoS2 interfaces also improves the dielectric loss. The composite not only exhibits satisfactory impedance matching over a wide frequency range but also provides synergistic effect between magnetic and dielectric loss for effective dissipation of the wave energy. Excellent wave absorption performance was achieved for the composite with a maximum reflection loss (RL) of -64.64 dB at 14.4 GHz and a broad effective absorption bandwidth (RL < -10 dB) of 7.2 GHz at a small thickness of 2 mm. Consequently, a novel type of high-performance wave absorber was developed, and insights for the design of advanced EM wave absorbers with strong absorption capacity and broad effective bandwidth were provided.

Abstract:To effectively utilize the unique properties of layered transition metal dichalcogenide and the attractive morphology of hierarchical flower for the attenuation of electromagnetic wave, herein, high-efficiency flowerlike core@shell structure FeSe2@MoSe2 nanocomposites were firstly synthesized through a simple in situ hydrothermal reaction on the surfaces of Fe3O4 nanoparticles with the adequate amounts of Mo and Se sources. The obtained results indicated that the designed flower-like core@shell structure FeSe2@MoSe2 nanocomposites with the filler loadings of 30 wt% and 40 wt% presented the optimal reflection loss (RLopt) value of -59.87 dB at 11 GHz with a matching thickness of 3.10 mm and -60.53 dB at 13.52 GHz with a matching thickness of 2.47 mm. And their corresponding effective frequency bandwidth (fb) values were up to 10.0 GHz with a thickness of 3.66 mm and 6.00 GHz with a thickness of 2.12 mm, respectively. It was worth pointing out that the as-prepared flower-like FeSe2@MoSe2 nanocomposite with filler loading of 30 wt% could simultaneously present very extraordinary electromagnetic wave absorption capabilities and broad absorption bandwidth with the very thin matching thicknesses, which was desirable for high-efficient microwave absorbers. Therefore, a simple and effective strategy was proposed to produce flower-like core@shell structure MoSe2-based nanocomposites, which could be applied as the very desirable candidates for high-performance microwave absorption materials.

Abstract:Core–shell structures and interfacial polarization are of great significance to meet the diversified requirements of microwave attenuation. Herein, α-Fe2O3@MoS2 nanocomposites are fabricated via a simple two-step hydrothermal process, in which MoS2 nanosheets as the shell are self-assembled and α-Fe2O3 microdrums are used as the core to constitute a special flower-like morphology with core–shell structure. This structure can provide more interface contact to achieve strong interfacial polarization and possibly offer more multiple reflection and scattering of electromagnetic waves. Furthermore, the microwave dissipation performances of α-Fe2O3@MoS2 nanocomposites can be significantly improved through construction of core–shell structure and flower-like morphology, controlling the content of α-Fe2O3 microdrums and adjusting the filler loading ratios. This work proves that the as-synthesized nanocomposites achieve excellent effective absorption bandwidth and outstanding electromagnetic wave absorption capabilities due to their special interfaces, core–shell structures and good impedance matching conditions. Therefore, α-Fe2O3@MoS2 nanocomposites are expected to be a novel and desirable candidate for high-performance electromagnetic wave absorbers.

Magnetic modulation of core@shell MoS2-based flower-like multicomponent nanocomposites to improve microwave attenuation

Abstract:Nanocomposites with a three-dimensional (3D) flower-like geometrical morphology were considered as excellent microwave absorbers (MAs) because of the numerous effective sites for the multiple reflections of electromagnetic (EM) wave. Herein, for optimizing the EM matching characteristic and taking full advantage of interface polarization, a strategy of magnetic modulation was proposed to further improve the EM wave absorption performances (EMWAPs) of MoS2-based nanocomposites. We adopted a simple hydrothermal route and a combined method of hydrothermal treatment/hydrogen reduction to synthesize core@shell CoFe2O4@MoS2 and CoFe@MoO2/MoS2 flower-like nanocomposites, respectively. The obtained results indicated that the hydrogen reduction effectively improved their magnetic properties and magnetic loss capabilities, and their 3D flower-like geometrical morphologies were well maintained during the hydrogen reduction process. The obtained core@shell CoFe@MoO2/MoS2 flower-like nanocomposites presented the extraordinary comprehensive EMWAPs including the optimal reflection loss value of -54.83 dB with the matching thicknesses (dm) value of 2.05 mm and effective absorption bandwidth value of 6.40 GHz with the dm value of 2.59 mm, which were evidently superior to the properties of CoFe2O4@MoS2. Therefore, the findings provided an effective pathway to further improve EMWAPs of MoS2-based core@shell nanocomposites and the as-prepared core@shell CoFe@MoO2/MoS2 flower-like nanocomposites could be utilized as the novel high-efficient MAs.

Abstract:Rational design of the components and microstructure is regarded as an efficacious strategy for the high-performance electromagnetic wave absorbing (EMWA) materials. Herein, the CoTe 2 @MoS 2 nanocomposites with CoTe 2 nanorods and MoS 2 nanosheets were synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The microstructure and composition of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The CoTe 2 @MoS 2 composite was composed of stacked CoTe 2 as the core and intertwined MoS 2 nanosheets as the shell. The electromagnetic parameters of the CoTe 2 @MoS 2 composites were investigated by vector network analyzer (VNA). The EMWA property of the composite showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with the increasing content of MoS 2 . When the mass ratio of MoS 2 and CoTe 2 was 1:1, the CoTe 2 @MoS 2 composite exhibited the minimum reflection loss value of −68.10 dB at 4.71 GHz, and the effective absorption bandwidth value might reach 4.64 GHz (13.08–17.72 GHz) at a matching thickness of 1.60 mm with filler loading of 50 wt.%. The extraordinary EMWA property was attributed to the optimized impedance matching, multiple scattering and reflections, dipole polarization, conductive loss, and interfacial polarization. Therefore, the present approach to the design of microstructure and interface engineering offers a crucial way to construct high-performance EMW absorbers.

Abstract:Carbon fiber core-shell materials with three-dimensional structures have been proven to be electromagnetic wave absorbing materials with excellent performance. Although research on composite material structural frameworks is still in a state of limited understanding, their attractive results have been widely recognized. In this work, Mil88 A magnetic nanoparticles were implanted into carbon fibers (CF) and composite with transition metal sulfides to prepare flower-shaped MoS 2 coated carbon fibers/Mil88 A core-shell nanorods with adjustable microwave absorption. The introduction of Mil88 A and its attachment to the MoS 2 shell. Through the synergistic effect of the three, the dielectric loss is increased, and the polarization relaxation process is enhanced, thereby improving the impedance matching and optimizing the material's performance. After testing, when the thickness is only 2.5 mm, The minimum reflection loss of the obtained CF-Mil88 2 (CMM) reaches −70 dB, and the effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) reaches 4.68 GHz.

Abstract:The composite composed of carbon materials and magnetic particles with the hollow structure is a promising electromagnetic wave absorption material. Herein, we synthesized Z67, Z67-8 and derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) by a facile preparation method, and systematically investigated their electromagnetic wave absorption performances respectively. The results show that hollow structured () has the best performance. As-prepared achieves a maximum RL of -58.1 dB at 11.52 GHz with an effective absorbing bandwidth (RL less than -10 dB) of 4.56 GHz (9.36-13.92 GHz) when the thickness is only 2.5 mm. Subsequent research verified that such excellent microwave absorption performance of was benefited from the favorable impedance matching. And the cavity inside the material can enhance the absorption performance by multiple scattering and refraction of electromagnetic waves. It is believed that the unique magnetic hollow structure composite material has the potential as a highly efficient microwave absorption material.

Abstract:It is highly desirable yet challenging to develop high-performance microwave absorption materials with lightweight, thin thickness, and strong absorption capability over broad frequency ranges by simple and cost-effective methods. Herein, we design an ultralight (similar to 54 mg cm(-3)) magnetic-carbon hybrid material to achieve superior microwave absorption performances. By instantaneous freezing-induced self-assembly of Fe3+, Co2+-glucose complexes on a cheap and water-removable template (i.e., NaCl), the as-made composite features 3D hierarchical porous structure and nanosheet-like carbon pore walls embedded with nanocrystalline CoFe2O4. The chemical composition can be controlled by simply altering the ratio of Co2+ (Fe3+) and glucose. Benefitting from the structural and compositional advantages, the optimized composite absorber exhibits a minimum reflection loss value of - 52.29 dB at a thin thickness of 2.0 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth reaching 5.36 GHz (12.64-18 GHz) at a low filler loading of 20 wt%. The microwave absorption mechanism survey reveals that the weak surface reflection and strong dissipation capacity induced by nanosheet-like pore walls combined with the multiple internal reflections caused by 3D hierarchical porous structure contribute to robust impedance matching and strong microwave attenuation ability. This work may offer new insights for designing highly effective magnetic-carbon microwave absorbers with low density and wide absorbing frequency.
MnCo-MOF-74 derived porous MnO/Co/C heterogeneous nanocomposites for high-efficiency electromagnetic wave absorption

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted more and more attentions for preparing electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials because of the porous structure, high specific surface area, and designable configuration. Herein, a series of MOF-74 derived nanocomposites were synthesized by hydrothermal process and subsequent carbonization. The EMW absorption performance and the functions of each component were investigated in depth. Moreover, the inherent EMW absorption mechanisms were comprehensively revealed. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of constituents and microstructure, the MnCo-MOF-74 derived MnO/Co/C nanocomposites delivered a minimum reflection loss value of −68.89 dB at the thickness of 2.64 mm and an effective absorption band of 5.3 GHz at the thickness of 2.3 mm. The high EMW absorption performance was ascribed to the optimized impedance matching and multiple attenuation mechanisms including interfacial and dipole polarization loss, magnetic loss, conductive loss, and multiple scatterings capability. This study shed light on exploring high-efficiency MOF-based EMW absorption materials with rational design of components and structure.

Fabrication of Three-Dimensional Flower-like Heterogeneous Fe3O4/Fe Particles with Tunable Chemical Composition and Microwave Absorption Performance

Abstract:Heterogeneous Fe3O4 and Fe composites are highly desirable for microwave absorption application because of their complementary electromagnetic (EM) properties. With three-dimensional (3D) Fe2O3 as a sacrificing template, we realize the construction of Fe3O4/Fe composites with tunable chemical composition, and more importantly, these composites inherit the unique 3D microstructure from their precursor. The change in chemical composition produces significant impacts on the EM functions of these composites. On the one hand, dielectric loss can be improved greatly through positive interfacial polarization and reach the peak when the mass contents of Fe3O4 and Fe are 72.1 and 27.9 wt %, respectively. On the other hand, high Fe content slightly pulls down magnetic loss in the low-frequency range but favors strong magnetic loss in the high-frequency range because of the breakthrough of Snoek's limitation. The attenuation constant reveals that dielectric loss dominates overall consumption of incident EM waves. As a result, the optimized composite, F-350 (the reduction of Fe2O3 is conducted at 350 °C), shows the best microwave absorption performance, whose strongest reflection loss is -56.0 dB at 17.5 GHz and the effective bandwidth can cover the frequency range of 12.0-15.5 GHz with the thickness of 1.5 mm. Furthermore, an ultrawide effective bandwidth of 15.3 GHz can be achieved with the integrated thickness of 1.0-5.0 mm. Such a performance is superior to those of many reported Fe3O4/Fe composites, and a comparative analysis manifests that good microwave absorption of F-350 is also benefited from its unique 3D architecture.
Flower-like MoS2@Bi2Fe4O9 Microspheres with Hierarchical Structure As Electromagnetic Wave Absorber

Abstract:Uniform MoS2 nanosheets were tightly installed on the smooth surface of Bi2Fe4O9 microplatelets (MPLs) via a facile two-step hydrothermal process. MoS2, as a typical two-dimensional transition metal sulfide, combining with multiferroic material Bi2Fe4O9, was shown to exhibit high dielectric activity for electromagnetic wave absorption while exhibiting hierarchical structure to achieve an effective multiple reflection. In accordance with transmit-line theory, a maximum reflection loss value of MoS2@Bi2Fe4O9 microspheres (MPs) was calculated as - 52.3 dB at 12.4 GHz with a sample thickness of 2.8 mm as well as an effective absorption bandwidth (reflection loss below -10 dB) reached 5.0 GHz (10.4-15.4). In the light of electromagnetic parameters, it can be found that flower-like MoS2@Bi2Fe4O9 MPs can utilize the merits of both multi-interfaces constructed by multi-polarization and reflection, as well as synergistic effect between MoS2 nanosheets and Bi2Fe4O9 MPLs. Construction of such hierarchical structure composed of flower-like dielectric shell and multiferroic core paves an advisable way for gaining a new candidate for lightweight electromagnetic wave absorbers.
Novel hierarchical structure of MoS2/TiO2/Ti3C2Tx composites for dramatically enhanced electromagnetic absorbing properties

Abstract:Abstract In order to prevent the microwave leakage and mutual interference, more and more microwave absorbing devices are added into the design of electronic products to ensure its routine operation. In this work, we have successfully prepared MoS 2 /TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 T x hierarchical composites by one-pot hydrothermal method and focused on the relationship between structures and electromagnetic absorbing properties. Supported by comprehensive characterizations, MoS 2 nanosheets were proved to be anchored on the surface and interlayer of Ti 3 C 2 T x through a hydrothermal process. Additionally, TiO 2 nanoparticles were obtained in situ . Due to these hierarchical structures, the MoS 2 /TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 T x composites showed greatly enhanced microwave absorbing performance. The MoS 2 /TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 T x composites exhibit a maximum reflection loss value of −33.5 dB at 10.24 GHz and the effective absorption bandwidth covers 3.1 GHz (13.9–17 GHz) at the thickness of 1.0 mm, implying the features of wide frequency and light weight. This work in the hierarchical structure of MoS 2 /TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 T x composites opens a promising door to the exploration of constructing extraordinary electromagnetic wave absorbents.
