Abstract:
The composite composed of carbon materials and magnetic particles with the hollow structure is a promising electromagnetic wave absorption material. Herein, we synthesized Z67, Z67-8 and derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) by a facile preparation method, and systematically investigated their electromagnetic wave absorption performances respectively. The results show that hollow structured () has the best performance. As-prepared achieves a maximum RL of -58.1 dB at 11.52 GHz with an effective absorbing bandwidth (RL less than -10 dB) of 4.56 GHz (9.36-13.92 GHz) when the thickness is only 2.5 mm. Subsequent research verified that such excellent microwave absorption performance of was benefited from the favorable impedance matching. And the cavity inside the material can enhance the absorption performance by multiple scattering and refraction of electromagnetic waves. It is believed that the unique magnetic hollow structure composite material has the potential as a highly efficient microwave absorption material.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper aims to address the issues of broadband and strong absorption performance in electromagnetic wave absorbing materials. Specifically, the researchers systematically studied the electromagnetic wave absorption properties of Co-C@C nanocomposites with hollow structures (derived from metal-organic frameworks, MOFs). The study shows that these hollow-structured Co-C@C composites exhibit excellent electromagnetic wave absorption, with a maximum reflection loss (RL) of -58.1 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth (RL less than -10 dB) of 4.56 GHz (9.36–13.92 GHz) at a thickness of only 2.5 mm. The research also confirms that this superior microwave absorption performance is attributed to good impedance matching and the enhancement of absorption performance through multiple scattering and refraction within the cavities of the material. Therefore, this unique magnetic hollow-structured Co-C@C composite material is expected to become an efficient microwave absorbing material.
