Abstract:Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are competitive alternatives for large-scale energy-storage devices owing to the abundance of zinc and low cost, high theoretical specific capacity, and high safety of these batteries. High-performance and stable cathode materials in AZIBs are the key to storing Zn2+. Manganese-based cathode materials have attracted considerable attention because of their abundance, low toxicity, low cost, and abundant valence states (Mn2+, Mn3+, Mn4+, and Mn7+). However, as a typical cathode material, birnessite-MnO2 (δ-MnO2) has low conductivity and structural instability. The crystal structure may undergo severe distortion, disorder, and structural damage, leading to severe cyclic instability. In addition, its energy-storage mechanism is still unclear, and most of the reported manganese oxide-based materials do not have excellent electrochemical performance. Herein, we propose a copper-doped Cu0.05K0.11Mn0.84O2·0.54H2O (Cu2-KMO) cathode, which exhibits a large interlayer spacing, a stable structure, and accelerated reaction kinetics. This cathode was prepared using a simple hydrothermal method. The AZIB assembled using Cu2-KMO showed high specific capacity (600 mA h g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 after 75 cycles). The dissolution-deposition energy storage mechanism of Cu-KMO in AZIBs with double electron transfer was revealed using ex situ tests. The good electrochemical performance of the Cu2-KMO cathode fabricated by the doping strategy in this study provides ideas for the subsequent preparation of manganese dioxide using other strategies.

Abstract:In recent years, rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have received much attention. However, the disproportionation effect of Mn(2+)seriously affects the capacity retention of ZIBs during cycling. Here, the capacity retention of the Mn(3)O(4)cathode is improved by effective valence engineering. The valence engineering of Mn(3)O(4)is caused by bulk oxygen defects, which are in situ derived from the Mn-metal organic framework during carbonization. Bulk oxygen defects can change the (MnO6) octahedral structure, which improves structural stability and inhibits the dissolution of Mn2+. The ZIB assembled from bulk oxygen defects Mn3O4@C nanorod arrays (O-d-Mn3O4@C NA/CC) exhibits an ultra-long cycle life, reaching 84.1 mAh g(-1)after 12 000 cycles at 5 A g(-1)(up to 95.7% of the initial capacity). Furthermore, the battery has a high specific capacity of 396.2 mAh g(-1)at 0.2 A g(-1). Ex situ characterization results show that initial Mn(3)O(4)is converted to ramsdellite MnO(2)for insertion and extraction of H(+)and Zn2+. First-principles calculations show that the charge density of Mn(3+)increases greatly, which improves the conductivity. In addition, the flexible quasi-solid-state ZIB is successfully assembled using O-d-Mn3O4 @ C NA/CC. Valence engineering induced by bulk oxygen defects can help develop advanced cathodes for aqueous ZIB.
Few-layer δ -MnO 2 nanosheets grown on three-dimensional N-doped hierarchically porous carbon networks for long-life aqueous zinc ion batteries

Abstract:Manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ) is typically used as aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) cathode material because of its ideal theoretical capacity, but low rate performance and short cycle life are some challenges for commercial applications. Herein, we report few-layer δ -MnO 2 nanosheets anchored in situ on three-dimensional (3D) N-doped hierarchically porous carbon networks (NCM) by using the green template method and simple hydrothermal process. The synthesized NCM possess the characteristics, such as excellent electric conductivity and abundant active sites, which can enhance the electron/ion transfer kinetics and buffer the volume changes of δ -MnO 2 nanosheets. Owing to the structural properties, the specific capacity can deliver 335 mAh g −1 at a current density of 0.1 A g −1 and exhibits superior cycle stability (92.5% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 1 A g −1 and 88% capacity retention after 5000 cycles at 2 A g −1 ). First-principles calculations also show that the introduction of NC improves the number of electrons near the Fermi level of δ -MnO 2 and reduces the diffusion barriers of Zn 2+ ions. This work develops a promising strategy for designing high-performance and low-cost AZIBs.

Abstract:This work proposes a δ‐MnO2 cathode with excellent Zn ion storage performance through morphology control (nanoflower‐like) and structural optimization (Ca2+‐doping). The bifunctional Ca2+ dopant improves the structural stability of the layered framework while inducing the formation of oxygen vacancies to improve reaction kinetics and enhance reversible capacity. Therefore, the optimized cathode exhibits excellent structural integrity and long‐term cycling stability. Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (ZIBs) have gained significant attention owing to their high energy densities, low costs, and enhanced safety profiles. However, the development of suitable host materials (i.e., cathodes) with high capacity, structural stability, and rate performance remains challenging. Herein, a nanoflower‐like Ca0.10MnO2·0.61H2O (CaMnO) is successfully synthesized as a high‐performance cathode material for ZIBs using a simplified one‐step hydrothermal method. The unique nanoflower‐like 3D porous structure provides a continuous conductive path and abundant adsorption sites for Zn2+ ions and mitigates aggregation during long‐term cycling processes. In addition, doping Ca2+ ions into the interlayer of MnO2 has a dual functional effect: 1) it acts as a pillar to broaden the interlayer spacing and enhance the crystal structure stability, and 2) it induces the formation of oxygen vacancies to enhance the reaction kinetics and increase the reversible capacity. Therefore, the CaMnO cathode exhibits a high specific capacity of 289 mAh g−1, with excellent capacity retention (90%) over 750 cycles at a high current rate of 1.5 A g−1. This study provides a new perspective on the development of advanced cathode materials for ZIBs.

Regulating the zinc ion transport kinetics of Mn3O4 through copper doping towards high-capacity aqueous Zn-ion battery

Abstract:High working voltage, large theoretical capacity and cheapness render Mn3O4 promising cathode candidate for aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs). Unfortunately, poor electrochemical activity and bad structural stability lead to low capacity and unsatisfactory cycling performance. Herein, Mn3O4 material was fabricated through a facile precipitation reaction and divalent copper ions were introduced into the crystal framework, and ultra-small Cu-doped Mn3O4 nanocrystalline cathode materials with mixed valence states of Mn2+, Mn3+ and Mn4+ were obtained via post-calcination. The presence of Cu acts as structural stabilizer by partial substitution of Mn, as well as enhance the conductivity and reactivity of Mn3O4. Significantly, based on electrochemical investigations and ex-situ XPS characterization, a synergistic effect between copper and manganese was revealed in the Cu-doped Mn3O4, in which divalent Cu2+ can catalyze the transformation of Mn3+ and Mn4+ to divalent Mn2+, accompanied by the translation of Cu2+ to Cu0 and Cu+. Benefitting from the above advantages, the Mn3O4 cathode doped with moderate copper (abbreviated as CMO-2) delivers large discharge capacity of 352.9 mAh g-1 at 100 mA g-1, which is significantly better than Mn3O4 (only 247.8 mAh g-1). In addition, CMO-2 holds 203.3 mAh g-1 discharge capacity after 1000 cycles at 1 A g-1 with 98.6 % retention, and after 1000 cycles at 5 A g-1, it still performs decent discharge capacity of 104.2 mAh g-1. This work provides new ideas and approaches for constructing manganese-based AZIBs with long lifespan and high capacity.
A new In Situ Oxidized 2D Layered MnBi2Te4 Cathode for High-Performance Aqueous Zinc-Ion Battery.

Abstract:Recently, aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) with the superior theoretical capacity, high safety, low prices, and environmental protection, have emerged as a contender for advanced energy storage. However, challenges related to cathode materials, such as dissolution, instability, and structural collapse, have hindered the progress of AZIBs. Here, a novel AZIB is constructed using an oxidized 2D layered MnBi2Te4 cathode for the first time. The oxidized MnBi2Te4 cathode with large interlayer spacing and low energy barrier for zinc ion diffusion at 240 °C, exhibited impressive characteristics, including a high reversibility capacity of 393.1 mAh g-1 (0.4 A g-1), outstanding rate performance, and long cycle stability. Moreover, the corresponding aqueous button cell also exhibits excellent electrochemical performance. To demonstrate the application in practice in the realm of flexible wearable electronics, a quasi-solid-state micro ZIB (MZIB) is constructed and shows excellent flexibility and high-temperature stability (the capacity does not significantly degrade when the temperature reaches 100 °C and the bending angle exceeds 150°). This research offers effective tactics for creating high-performance cathode materials for AZIBs.

Achieving Stable Zinc-Ion Storage Performance of Manganese Oxides by Synergistic Engineering of the Interlayer Structure and Interface

Abstract:Manganese oxide is a promising cathode material for rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs). However, the low electronic conductivity and unstable structure evolution of manganese materials often result in poor rate performance and rapid capacity decay. Herein, we design N-doped Na2Mn3O7 (N-NMO) by combining sodium preintercalation and nitridation treatment strategies to stabilize the crystalline structure and reaction interface. Sodium preintercalation not only enlarges the interlayer distance for fast Zn2+ ion diffusion but also serves as a robust pillar to stabilize the crystalline structure during cycling. Meanwhile, the nitridation layer on the surface of Na2Mn3O7 particles is favorable for enhancing the electronic conductivity and inhibiting the cathode dissolution issue during repeated cycling. Consequently, the as-prepared N-NMO exhibits high reversible capacity (300 mAh g-1 at 0.2 A g-1), good rate capability (100 mAh g-1 at 10 A g-1), and outstanding long-term cycling stability (high capacity retention of 78.9% after 550 cycles at 2 A g-1). Considering the facile and simple synthesizing methods, the synergistic engineering of the interlayer structure and interface is expected to provide new opportunities for the development of high-performance Mn-based cathode materials for aqueous ZIBs.

Abstract:To enhance both the electrical conductivity and long-term stability of manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ) as the cathode of AZIBs, a stabilized cathode of Cu-intercalated MnO 2 was designed in this paper. Tests showed that the Cu-MnO 2 electrode possessed a smaller polarization voltage with higher reversibility. The capacity of Cu-MnO 2 was 356.2 mAh g −1 , which was higher compared to the capacity of original MnO 2 (255.6 mAh g −1 ) under 100 mA g − 1 . Furthermore, the Cu-MnO 2 possesses a capacity retention of 65.9% even after 100 turns under 100 mA g −1 . This work may provide important insights into the development of AZIBs.
High-capacity K+-pillared layered manganese dioxide as cathode material for high-rate aqueous zinc-ion battery

Abstract:Sluggish kinetics and severe structural instability of manganese-based cathode materials for rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) lead to low-rate capacity and poor cyclability, which hinder their practical applications. Pillaring manganese dioxide (MnO2) by pre-intercalation is an effective strategy to solve the above problems. However, increasing the pre-intercalation content to realize stable cycling of high capacity at large current densities is still challenging. Here, high-rate aqueous Zn2+ storage is realized by a high-capacity K+-pillared multi-nanochannel MnO2 cathode with 1 K per 4 Mn (δ-K0.25MnO2). The high content of the K+ pillar, in conjunction with the three-dimensional confinement effect and size effect, promotes the stability and electron transport of multi-nanochannel layered MnO2 in the ion insertion/removal process during cycling, accelerating and accommodating more Zn2+ diffusion. Multi-perspective in/ex-situ characterizations conclude that the energy storage mechanism is the Zn2+/H+ ions co-intercalating and phase transformation process. More specifically, the δ-K0.25MnO2 nanospheres cathode delivers an ultrahigh reversible capacity of 297 mAh g-1 at 1 A g-1 for 500 cycles, showing over 96 % utilization of the theoretical capacity of δ-MnO2. Even at 3 A g-1, it also delivered a 63 % utilization and 64 % capacity retention after 1000 cycles. This study introduces a highly efficient cathode material based on manganese oxide and a comprehensive analysis of its structural dynamics. These findings have the potential to improve energy storage capabilities in ZIBs significantly.

Abstract:Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (AZIBs) have received significant research attention and widely investigated because of their high intrinsic safety and cost effectiveness. Manganese dioxide has been regarded as a promising cathode material for AZIBs, attributed to its friendliness, abundant resources, high theoretical capacity, and high working voltage. Herein, a unique one-dimensional–three-dimensional (1D–3D) hybrid network with interconnected δ-MnO2 nanowires was reported as a cathode material for AZIBs. A distinctive 3D nano network structure resulted in enhancement of electrolyte osmosis and significant increase in contact between electrode and electrolyte, and also provided more active sites and convenient rapid ion transport routes. Moreover, the fine nanowire structure and the optimum layer spacing resulted in easier insertion/deinsertion of ion in the active material. Taking advantage of this feature, the δ-MnO2 cathode provides high reversible capacity, fast rate capability and good longevity for cycling. Further kinetic experiments revealed that Zn/δ‐MnO2 system constitutes an electrochemical reaction regulated by the combination of ionic diffusion and pseudo-capacitance; and shows high energy efficiency during the charge/discharge states. This research may provide an advanced cathode material for AZIB development.

Improved performance of Cu ion implanted δ-MnO2 cathode material for aqueous Zn-ion batteries

Abstract:Aqueous Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs) are considered as a potential large-scale renewable energy storage system. Herein, Cu ion implantation is used to improve the electrochemical performance of δ-MnO2, resulting in a mixed layer-tunnel material δ-MnO2 (Cu@δ-MnO2) with high capacity, excellent cycle performance, and rate performance as cathode for aqueous ZIBs. The as-obtained Cu@δ-MnO2 cathode shows a high specific capacity of 470 mAhg−1 at 0.1 Ag−1 and maintains a higher specific capacity during long-term cycles of up to 300 times. Meanwhile, the first-principles theoretical simulations suggest the easier migration of Zn2+ and more Zn2+ adsorption on Cu@δ-MnO2 cathode. The theoretical and experimental results show that Cu ion implantation may be an effective strategy to improve the device performance of the Mn-based layer-tunnel hybrid cathode.

Abstract:Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) have gained much attention because of their high theoretical capacity, low cost, and high level of safety merits. Nevertheless, the progress of their practical applications is often restricted by the poor structural degradation in cathodes and inherently sluggish transport kinetics. Herein, we developed layered Na0.08MnO20.57H(2)O nanoflowers by a simple and effective hydrothermal method for the cathode of AZIBs. Na0.08MnO20.57H(2)O was obtained by the cointercalated sodium ion and minimal water in crystalline delta-MnO2. Consequently, the Na0.08MnO20.57H(2)O cathode delivers a high capacity (368 mA h g(-1 )at 0.1 A g(-1)) and a satisfactory cycle stability above 250 cycles at 0.5 A g(-1). Our research could provide some ideas for the enhanced electrochemical performance of rechargeable AZIBs.

Abstract:Manganese dioxide with high operating voltage and satisfactory energy density have been identified as the promising cathode materials for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). However, the structural instability of manganese-based materials during the (dis)charging process limits their further development. Herein, sodium-potassium co-doped layered K 0.37 Na 0.18 MnO 2 ·xH 2 O (KNMOH) are synthesized by a liquid-phase synthesis method at room temperature. The co-doping of Na + and K + stabilizes the layered structure, widens the layer spacing and has the effect of electrostatic shielding to facilitate the (de)intercalation of Zn 2+ . Benefiting from the stable structure and nanoscale size, the flower-like KNMOH cathode maintained a high specific capacity of 239.1 mAh·g -1 after 700 cycles at 500 mA·g -1 . Simultaneously, this work firstly reveals that the presence of K 8 (SO 4 )(SO 3 OH) 6 suppressed the generation of Zn 4 SO 4 (OH) 6 ·0.5H 2 O, resulting in more free Zn 2+ and high reversibility. This co-doped design of bimetallic ions insertion enhances the electrochemical performance and provides a new idea for the improvement of the manganese-based cathode materials for AZIBs.

Abstract:Birnessite-type MnO 2 , as a promising and attractive cathode material for rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries, is plagued by grievously poor cycling stability and rate performance, mainly attributed to structural collapse of MnO 2 and slow Zn 2+ diffusion kinetics. Herein, the Cu/Bi dual ions pre-intercalated birnessite-type MnO 2 was fabricated by one-step hydrothermal method. It is validated by theoretical calculation in conjunction with experimentation that the Cu/Bi ions tends to occupy L1 sites, which not only can accelerate Zn 2+ diffusion kinetics owing to the low the Zn 2+ diffusion energy barrier, but also can stabilize the structure of MnO 2 host due to the formation of chemical bonds between the pre-intercalated Cu/Bi ions and oxygen atoms. Consequently, the CBMO cathode displays a high discharge capacity of 412.3 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g and distinguished cycling stability at 3 A/g after 1000 cycles with only approximately 0.0042 % capacity fading per cycle, which will be a strong competitive cathode material for developing stable and high-performance rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries.

Abstract:Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) have garnered wide attention due to their notable safety, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability. Cathode material is pivotal in dictating the performance of AZIBs, yet the development of high-performing cathode materials is a formidable challenge. Herein, we design and fabricate the Cu-doped MnO 2 nanoparticles riveted onto carbon nanofibers (CNFs) as cathode materials. On the one hand, the introduction of CNF and Cu 2+ promotes the conductivity and the generation of defect structures, which augments the intrinsic pseudocapacitance. On the other hand, nanoscale MnO 2 provides abundant exposed active sites, thereby amplifying the extrinsic pseudocapacitive effect. This unique structure combines both intrinsic and extrinsic pseudocapacitive effects, effectively harnessing the rapid response advantage at the surface layer. Additionally, the introduction of CNF and Cu 2+ in MnO 2 boosts the ion diffusion capability. In synergy with these effects, the optimized 10C-MO-Cu exhibits a high discharge specific capacity of 442 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 , and a decent capacity retention of 80 % after 750 cycles at 1 A g −1 . Furthermore, the zinc ions storage mechanism is elucidated through ex-situ X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. This work provides a novel perspective to constructing efficient cathode materials for AZIBs with high performance.

Mn3O4-stabilized multiphase manganese oxides with micron cage structure for high-performance AZIBs

Abstract:Aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) have become one of the most prospective energy storage devices due to their low cost, abundant resources, and hypotoxicity. However, AZIBs suffer from a bottleneck, that is, significant capacity fading during long cycle and bad performance at a high current density. In this work, we report a valuable cooperation strategy of multiphase Mn-based oxides (N-Mn3O4/MnO) via a two-step solvothermal method to obtain an attractive cathode for AZIBs. The high reversible specific capacity and superior rate capability of this cathode result from the facile charge transfer channel and ions (Zn2+/H+) insertion in the porous heterostructures featuring phase stability caused by the synergistic effects of N-doping, heterojunction and porous micron cage. Because the d-band centers of N-doped Mn3O4 are closer to the Fermi level, they are looked forward to overcoming the intrinsic activation barrier more effectively and promoting the reaction kinetics for electrochemical reactions. The N-Mn3O4/MnO cathode demonstrates a reversible specific capacity of 227.8 mAh g−1 over 1500 cycles at 5 A g−1. The capacity retention reaches up to 92.2% regarding the stable capacity of 247.2 mAh g−1 as the reference. The capacity retention rate of 77.2% and a loss of only 0.0091% per cycle are achieved at a high current density of 10 A g−1 for 2500 cycles. These results all prove the advantages of N-Mn3O4/MnO of the hybrid material. The meaning of this work is to put forward a compositional and structural design strategy for the Zn-Mn system for the cost-effective and high-performance rechargeable AZIBs. Besides, the application of a novel water-soluble binder (LA133) to AZIBs in this work is a solid step for the practical application of AZIBs.

Abstract:MnO2 has recently received great concern as a cathode material for zinc-based energy storage owing to its many advantages. Unfortunately, the low rate capability and poor cyclability hinder its practical application. Herein, novel layered MnO2 nanodots (δ-MnO2 NDs) are synthesized by a facile redox reaction, and utilized as the cathode for aqueous zinc-ion batteries/hybrid capacitors (ZIBs/ZICs) for the first time. Benefiting from the layered structure and nanoscale size, the δ-MnO2 NDs//Zn ZIBs display a considerable specific capacity of 335 mAh g–1 at 0.1 A g–1, an impressive rate capacity of 125 mAh g–1 at 2.0 A g–1, a large specific energy (466.7 Wh kg–1 at 139 W kg–1), and a superior durability with 86.2% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 1.0 A g–1. Further, the H+/Zn2+ co-insertion energy storage mechanism of the δ-MnO2 NDs cathode is verified by electrochemical kinetics analyses and ex-situ characterizations. Simultaneously, the novel ZICs based on δ-MnO2 NDs cathode exhibit a high specific energy of 68.7 Wh kg–1 and a satisfactory cycle life with 86.9% capacity retention after 5000 cycles at 1.0 A g–1. The quantization design strategy opens a new gateway for the design and exploitation of advanced cathodes for aqueous ZIBs and ZICs.

Abstract:Zwitterionic betaine intercalated MnO2 is synthesized by an ion exchange reaction. The zwitterionic properties of betaine stabilize the layered structure of MnO2 and induce rapid ion diffusion. The resulting MnO2 cathode demonstrates high specific capacity, excellent rate performance, fast reaction kinetics, and extended cycle life, making it an ideal cathode material for aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. In this study, a novel approach is introduced to address the challenges associated with structural instability and sluggish reaction kinetics of δ‐MnO2 in aqueous zinc ion batteries. By leveraging zwitterionic betaine (Bet) for intercalation, a departure from traditional cation intercalation methods, Bet‐intercalated MnO2 (MnO2‐Bet) is synthesized. The positively charged quaternary ammonium groups in Bet form strong electrostatic interactions with the negatively charged oxygen atoms in the δ‐MnO2 layers, enhancing structural stability and preventing layer collapse. Concurrently, the negatively charged carboxylate groups in Bet facilitate the rapid diffusion of H+/Zn2+ ions through their interactions, thus improving reaction kinetics. The resulting MnO2‐Bet cathode demonstrates high specific capacity, excellent rate capability, fast reaction kinetics, and extended cycle life. This dual‐function intercalation strategy significantly optimizes the electrochemical performance of δ‐MnO2, establishing it as a promising cathode material for advanced aqueous zinc ion batteries.

Abstract:Although manganese dioxide (MnO2) is of great promise as the cathode material for aqueous Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs), its capacity decreases sharply during cycles due to the irreversible phase transition and Mn dissolution, consequently hindering the large-scale practical application. Herein, for the first time, a novel Al-intercalation engineering of MnO2 cathode has been proposed for aqueous ZIBs, in which the structural regulation and Zn2+ storage performance of Al-intercalated MnO2 (denoted as AMO) cathode are deeply investigated. Electrochemical testing results indicate significant improvement in specific capacity (401.7 mAh g−1) and cycling retention (~94.5% over 2000 cycles) of the AMO cathode, which is owing to the effective Al-intercalation that result in the formation of strong Al-O bonds in tunnel-type MnO2 framework. This reasonable configuration not only optimizes charge/ion state and electronic bandgap, but also ensures reversible phase transition and alleviates the Mn dissolution of AMO cathode, which are further demonstrated by the density functional theory (DFT) calculations and in-situ Raman investigation upon charging-discharging. As a proof of concept, coin-type and flexible aqueous ZIBs based on such AMO cathode are effectively fabricated, and they both achieve excellent electrochemical behaviors, revealing the great potential applications in energy technologies and portable/wearable electronics.

Abstract:Cu‐doped δ‐MnO2 with spherical morphology constructed by masses of ultrathin nanosheets and oxygen‐deficient structure is successfully synthesized and served as a cathode material for high‐efficient Zn‐ion storage. Benefited from nanoscale morphology and favorable structural features, the electrode manifests facilitated Zn2+ diffusion and charge transfer kinetics, resulting in a high energy density and prolonged cycle life. Aqueous Zn‐ion batteries (ZIBs) have triggered an astounding research surge because of their high safety, affordability, and impressive electrochemical properties. However, the smooth implementation of this promising technology is hindered by severe structural degradation and sluggish reaction kinetics of the cathode materials. Here, the defect engineering is demonstrated by the substitution doping of Cu2+ in layered δ‐MnO2 to boost the electrochemical reactivity for Zn‐ion storage. Benefited from the nanoscale morphology and oxygen‐deficient structural features, this Zn/MnO2 battery is able to deliver a high reversible capacity of 296.8 mAh g−1 with a capacity retention of 94.9% over 120 cycles (at 0.1 A g−1) and a desirable energy density of 441 Wh kg−1, as well as an ultra‐long cycle life up to 6000 cycles, which is also intensively associated with the facilitated Zn2+ diffusion and charge transfer rates after the Cu2+ dopants, based on the electrochemical kinetics analysis. The effortless but effective defect engineering arising from element doping can provide significant enlightenment to design high‐performance cathode materials for ZIBs.
