Abstract:Recently, bio-based carbon stands out as the most promising material, with its exceptional electrochemical properties opening up novel prospects for crafting compact devices across a diverse array of potential applications. This study presents the incorporation of porous bio-cellulose (BC) derived rGO into SmCoO 3 -based bimetal oxide using ultrasonic-assisted hydrothermal methods, aimed at enhancing the electrocatalytic properties of Sm-based bimetal oxides. A cubic crystalline structure with nanorod shape was discovered by means of scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The nanorods were uniformly wrapped on the BC derived 2D nanosheets, which results in high surface area 142.8 m 2 g −1 and porous nature (pore diameter 9.2 nm). Based on the combined benefits of porous rGO derived from BC and SmCoO 3 , DSSC fabricated with rGO/SmCoO 3 photoanode exhibit impressive improvements, with superior Jsc and PCE values of 16.62 mA cm −2 and 9.26%, respectively. Additionally, the FF and Voc of the DSSC devices utilizing the rGO/SmCoO 3 -photoanode surpassed those of cells fabricated with other photoanodes. Electron transfer measurements conducted through cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy demonstrated that rGO/SmCoO 3 facilitates rapid electron transfer between the electrode and the electrolyte, along with exhibiting high electrocatalytic activity for the reduction of triiodide in a photoanode based on rGO/SmCoO 3 , resulting in significantly enhanced performance. This work highlights the potential for biomass waste usage in developing energy applications and offers an efficient method for creating hybrid catalysts with low cost and good performance properties using bio-based rGO.
