Abstract:Most patients with COPD have a combination of abdominal distension, which has been shown to adversely affect pulmonary symptoms, frequency of acute exacerbations, and quality of life in patients with COPD. Warm acupuncture and moxibustion have been shown to be effective in relieving symptoms in patients with COPD combined with abdominal distention. Warm acupuncture and moxibustion are highly effective, easy to perform, and inexpensive forms of traditional Chinese medicine treatments. The standardized practice of warm acupuncture and moxibustion is very important for the treatment of COPD combined with abdominal distension. The specific steps include selecting the appropriate acupoints for needling through syndrome differentiation treatment and selecting moxa sticks of appropriate length for moxibustion for about 30 min after the De-qi. The course of treatment lasts for one week. The following indicators are specifically assessed: the score of the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and the abdominal distension visual analog scale (VAS). This article will clearly illustrate how to standardize the manipulation of warm acupuncture and moxibustion to relieve COPD combined with abdominal distention.

Abstract:Professor ZHUANG Li-xing's diagnosis and treatment method and manipulation key points of mind-regulation acupuncture for psychosomatic disorders are summarized. Professor ZHUANG proposes that psychosomatic disorders can be subdivided into "mind-body disorder" and "body-mind disorder". The former requires treatment aimed at regulating the mind. The main acupoints are Sishenzhen, Shenting (GV 24), Yintang (GV 24+), Shenmen (HT 7) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6). The additional acupoints are Suliao (GV 25), Shuigou (GV 26), Shenmai (BL 62), Zhaohai (KI 6), Hegu (LI 4) and Taichong (LR 3), etc. The latter requires treatment aimed at improving the original diseases, supplemented by regulating the mind (row acupuncture on the governor vessel). Acupoint selection is based on the theories of brain-mind, and the emphasis is placed on the governor vessel; in the meanwhile, regulating zangfu and qi-blood should be valued. After the arrival of qi, the Daoqi Tongjing method (the specific technique for directing qi and preserving essence) is applied, combined with auricular point sticking and fire needling at affected part to enhance the curative effect.

Abstract:The active role of "Shen" (mind) in the process of disease treatment has always been valued by scholars of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). "Tiaoshen" (mind-regulating) is regarded as the fundamental component of TCM therapy. "Mind-regulating" acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, as a treatment method for both body and mind, is consistent with the present bio-psycho-social medical model. In recent years, a large number of clinical studies have confirmed the exact efficacy of "mind-regulating" acupuncture and moxibustion therapy. This article reviewed the clinical applications of that in psychosomatic diseases, neurological diseases, and digestive diseases over the last decade. This article also summarized the research progress of various "mind-regulating" acupuncture and moxibustion methods, investigated the theoretical connotations of "Tongdu Tiaoshen" (dredging Governor Vessel and regulating mind) acupuncture, "Shugan Tiaoshen" (soothing liver and regulating mind) acupuncture, and the "Tiaoshen needling technique" (mind-regulating needling technique), and generalized the main acupoint selection rules. Lastly, future development directions were provided for the theoretical basis of clinical application of "mind-regulating" acupuncture and moxibustion therapy for further improvement.

Abstract:Prof.Xu Feng has unique understanding in the treatment of insomnia and has accumula ted rich clinical experiences.Prof.Xu believes that insomnia is divided into two categories,the deficiency and the excess.The deficiency pattern may be transformed into the excess one,or the mixture of both happens.The treatment of insomnia should focus on regulating and consolidating the spleen and the stomach functions.The four diagnostic methods and differentiation should be considered accordingly in the cases of blood stagnation,heat accumulation and damp involved.The modified herbal formulas are used to removing stasis,clearing heat and reducing damp so as to eliminate the pathogens and strengthen the spleen and stomach.As a result,the qi and blood circulation is regulated and the function of spleen and stomach in transformation and transportation is benefited.Additionally,the advice on the proper diet and regulate food intake should be given to cultivate the function of spleen for strengthening the functions of zangfu organs,supplementing qi and blood and harmonizing yin and yang.Consequently,insomnia is prevented.

Abstract:Objective:To observe the therapeutic effect of patients with temperature-sensitive mild moxibustion combined with fire needle at Ashi points on patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome and to probe into a new therapy.Methods:82 cases of patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome,these cases were randomly divided into two groups:the treatment group(42 cases)which received treatment of temperature-sensitive mild moxibustion combined with fire needle at Ashi points therapy,the control group(40 cases)which received treatment of acupuncture combined with cupping therapy.Then observe the clinical effect of patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome with the two different therapy,and compare the difference of therapeutic effect and course of treatment between the two groups.Results:The cure rate of treatment group and control group were 83.33%、 52.50% according to efficacy.There was significant deviation(P0.05)in the score of subjective symptom.It indicated that the treatment of temperature-sensitive mild moxibustion combined with fire needle at Ashi points therapy were more effective to treat patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome than the treatment of acupuncture combined with cupping therapy.Conclusion:The treatment of temperature-sensitive mild moxibustion combined with fire needle therapy were more effective to treat patients with The third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome than the treatment of acupuncture combined with cupping therapy.And it can become a new and high-performance treatment for patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome.

Abstract:Professor FU Wen-bin, based on the concept of the "yang-oriented approach", identifies "yang deficiency with excess yin" as the underlying pathological mechanism of "five delays and five weaknesses" in children. He recommends a treatment model that included acupuncture, moxibustion, and rehabilitation, integrating various therapeutic methods of acupuncture, refined moxibustion, and auricular point sticking. Specific acupoints along the conception vessel, governor vessel, and bladder meridian, as well as related acupoints with tonifying effects on spleen and kidney, are selected to achieve the therapeutic goal of "promoting yang and nourishing yang simultaneously".

Abstract:As a common clinical disease, insomnia was usually treated with anti-psychotic or sedative-hypnotic drugs in Western medicine, which showed a fast efficacy, as well as easy drug tolerance and side effects. In traditional Chinese medicine, the basic and key pathogenesis of insomnia are believed to be “the restlessness of the mind”, as well as “the absence of the mind”; and the treatment mainly focus on “regulating mental activities and smoothing the liver”. By combining the theoretical basis and characteristics of Fang’s scalp acupuncture, this paper aims to explain the advantages of Fang’s scalp acupuncture in the treatment of insomnia, and provide new ideas and methods for its clinical treatment.

Abstract:Si and Ge films can be prepared under ultrahigh vacuum conditions by chemical vapor deposition using disilane and digermane as source gases. These gases offer a high sticking probability, and are suitable for atomic layer epitaxy. Using synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy, we have examined the surface processes associated with the heteroepitaxial growth of Ge/Si. The measured surface-induced shifts and chemical shifts of the Si 2p and Ge 3d core levels allow us to identify the surface species and to determine the surface chemical composition, and this information is correlated with the atomic features observed by scanning tunneling microscopy. Abstract:The paper introduces professor WU Zhongchao's clinical experience in treatment of allergic rhinitis by acupuncture and moxibustion. Allergic rhinitis is closely associated with the dysfunction of lung, spleen and kidney. Based on the theory of "band-like function zone of back-shu points", the main acupoints related to the affected zangfu organs are selected to enhance the conductivity, regulate zangfu function and strengthen the antipathogenic qi specially; and the supplementary points are combined in terms of syndrome/pattern differentiation so that both symptoms and root causes of the disease can be treated simultaneously, the symptoms of allergic rhinitis be attenuated and the recurrence be prevented.

Abstract:Based on Chinese medicine classics, combined with clinical experience and modern research findings, Professor YANG Jun deepens the analysis on the etiology and pathogenesis of neuropathic tinnitus, and has summarized the TCM elements of this disease, including "qi and blood stagnation" and "shen (spirit) hidden and orifices closed". The multiple therapies are used in combination, such as acupuncture, electroacupuncture, warm needling, borneol-moxibustion and herbal medication. The different acupoints are combined according to individuals, especially the application of Tinggong (SI 19) and Yamen (GV 15). The comprehensive treatment overlaps the dose effects, co-acts on activating blood circulation in meridians, calming-down the spirit and opening the orifices so that the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion can be improved on this disease.

Abstract:This paper reports the fabrication and characterization of Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films incorporating an oligo(phenylene-ethynylene) (OPE) derivative, namely, 4-[4-(4-hexyloxyphenylethynyl)-phenylethynyl]-benzoic acid (HBPEB). Conditions appropriate for deposition of monolayers of HBPEB at the air-water interface have been established and the resulting Langmuir films characterized by a combination of surface pressure and surface potential versus area per molecule isotherms, Brewster angle microscopy, and ultraviolet reflection spectroscopy. The Langmuir films are readily transferred onto solid substrates, and one-layer LB films transferred at several surface pressures onto mica substrates have been analyzed by means of atomic force microscopy, from which it can be concluded that 14 mN/m is an optimum surface pressure of transference, giving well-ordered homogeneous films without three-dimensional defects and a low surface roughness. The optical and emissive properties of the LB films have been determined with significant blue-shifted absorption spectra indicating formation of two-dimensional H aggregates and a Stokes shift illustrating the effects of the solid-like environment on the molecular chromophore.

Abstract:Professor XIANG Xian-de's clinical experience of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine on functional dyspepsia is introduced. Inview of the treatment based on syndrome differentiation, professor XIANG uses acupuncture with Chinese herbal medicine, psychological counseling and regular diet, etc. to treat functional dyspepsia comprehensively. In terms of syndrome differentiation, six-meridian and visceral syndrome differentiation are selected;methods such as soothing liver and regulating qi, invigorating spleen and stomach are adopted as the treatment principle; meridians are mainly the conception vessel, stomach meridian of foot-yangming and spleen meridian of foot-taiyin; acupoints are mainly selected with "new ten needles" and both internal and external treatment are advocated; needling method is fast twisting needle insertion; manipulation is adopted with directional supplementation and draining method; and the combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbs is adopted on the treatment. Regular diet, standardized work and rest, five elements music therapy for psychological intervention, give patients positive psychological hints, to achieve the effect of both body and mind.

Abstract:The clinical experience of Shao's needling technique for post-stroke depression is introduced. Professor SHAO Jingming proposes that the main pathogenesis of this condition lies in the "imbalance of body and spirit," with its onset closely related to the heart, liver, spleen, and kidney. In clinical practice, based on the principle of "treating both the body and spirit", "three acupoints for treating the spirit" including Dazhui (GV 14), Fengchi (GB 20), and Baihui (GV 20) are selected, combined with back-shu points such as Xinshu (BL 15), Ganshu (BL 18), Pishu (BL 20), and Shenshu (BL 23). The nu-needle manipulation method is applied. The treatment focuses on both physical and mental aspects, achieving remarkable therapeutic effects.

Abstract:Based on the theory of consolidating the root and cultivating the primary, the paper collates and reviews the theoretical evidences and the characteristics of Xin'an medical masters in treatment of bi syndrome with acupuncture and moxibustion so as to provide the ideas for further research. Xin'an medical masters thoroughly acquainted with the theory of consolidating the root and cultivating the primary in treatment of bi syndrome with acupuncture and moxibustion, emphasizing the regulation of qi and blood, yin and yang, the nutrient qi and the defensive qi; and replenishing the middle jiao (spleen and stomach) and the lower jiao (kidney). The acupoint selection was distinctive, in which, the acupoints were selected and stimulated in terms of the etiology and the pathogenesis of diseases, as well as the properties of special points. The remarkable therapeutic effect on bi syndrome was ensured through specially selecting he-sea points, ashi points and "yin-yang opposite" points; effectively using the penetrating needling technique and moxibustion method and combining acupuncture with herbal medication.

Abstract:Calf pancreas microsomes were treated with 0.5-1% Triton X-100 and the resulting soluble enzyme preparation was incubated with GDP-D-[14C]mannose. The addition of synthetic Dol-PP derivative of the trisaccharide beta-Man-(1 leads to 4)-beta-GlcNAc-(1 leads to 4)GlcNAc stimulated the synthesis of labeled lipid-bound tetrasaccharide 50-100-fold. The labeled tetrasaccharide thus formed was identified as alpha-Man-(1 leads to 3)-beta-Man-(1 leads to 4)-beta-GlcNAc- (1 leads to 4)GlcNAc by its chromatographic properties and by its sensitivity to alpha-mannosidase and to endo-beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase D. The solubilized alpha-(1 leads to 3)mannosyltransferase did not require divalent cation and was active in the presence of 10 mM EDTA.
