Abstract:Purpose: To establish the interrelationships between temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), pain, and otologic and psychologic comorbidities in Asian youths. Materials and methods: Youths from a local polytechnic, aged 17 to 24 years old, were enrolled and an electronic survey encompassing demographic variables-the DC/TMD TMD pain screener (TPS), Short- form Fonseca Anamnestic Index (SFAI), modified Maciel's Otologic/Pain Symptom Inventory, and Patient Health Questionnaire-4-was administered. Par.cipants were subsequently categorized into groups: no TMD pain (NP), with TMD pain (WP), no TMDs (NT), and with any TMDs (WT). Data were evaluated with chi-square test, nonparametric, and logistic regression analyses (α = .05). Results: Among the 198 participants (mean age 18.8 ± 1.7 years), 11.1% had painful TMDs and 18.2% experienced TMD pain or dysfunction. Significant differences in total-otologic symptoms (total-OS), vertigo, and dizziness plus otalgia, tinnitus, and hearing loss scores were observed between the WP-NP and WT-NT groups correspondingly. While total-comorbid pain (total-CP) and psychologic distress (total-PD) scores varied substanally between the WT-NT group, only a significant difference in total-PD scores was discerned between the WP-NP group. Total-OS scores were moderately correlated to TPS/SFAI, total-CP, and total-PD scores, and psychologic distress was a risk factor for painful TMDs. Conclusions: Otologic and pain comorbidities were prevalent among Asian youths with TMDs and appear to be interrelated. The complex interaction of TMDs with pain, otologic, and psychologic comorbidities must be considered when caring for youths with multiple somatic complaints.

Abstract:PURPOSE: The association of Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and somatic symptoms with the psychological variables of personality, coping, and distress were analyzed in young adults. Physical and psychological correlates were also explored along with the risk factors for TMDs/somatization.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Participants were enlisted from a local university and the presence of TMDs and somatic symptoms was determined with the Short-form Fonseca Anamnestic Index and Patient Health Questionnaire-15. The psychological variables of personality, coping, and distress was assessed with the Big-Five Personality Inventory-10, brief-COPE Inventory, and Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scales-21 accordingly. Statistical evaluations were performed with the Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman's correlation, and logistic regression analyses (α = 0.05).RESULTS: Among the 455 participants (mean age 22.7 ± 1.2 years), 18.2% and 5.7% had TMDs and medium-to-high somatization respectively. Participants with TMDs exhibited substantially higher somatization and psychological distress scores than those with no TMDs. Significant differences in TMD, conscientiousness, extraversion, and psychological distress scores were observed between participants with no-to-mild and medium-to-high somatization. The association between TMD and somatization scores, albeit significant, was weak. Neuroticism and dysfunctional coping style were moderately correlated to general distress, depression, anxiety, and stress (rs = 0.44-0.62).CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest that anxiety is the main risk factor for the presence of TMDs and medium-to-high somatization in non-clinical young adults while conscientiousness is a protective factor for somatization.

Psychological characteristics of young adults with temporomandibular disorders, somatization and combined conditions: A multidimensional evaluation

Abstract:Background: Temporomandibular disorders and somatization have shown interrelation in many studies. The physical and psychological factors which contributed to the occurrence and relation of both conditions are yet to be determined. Objectives: The personality traits, coping styles and psychological distress of young adults with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and somatic symptoms were characterized together with the determination of psychological risk factors for TMDs, somatization and combined conditions. Methods: Participants were recruited from university-attending young adults. TMD and somatic symptoms were appraised with the short-form Fonseca Anamnestic Index and Patient Health Questionnaire-15. Psychological variables were assessed with the Big Five Personality Inventory-10, Brief-COPE Inventory and Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales-21. Data were evaluated using chi-squared/non-parametric tests and logistic regression analyses (α = .05). Results: Among the 507 participants (mean age 22.2 ± 1.5 years), 46.4% reported no TMD/somatic symptoms (NS) while 7.5%, 34.5% and 11.6% had TMDs only (TS), somatization only (SS) and combined TMDs-somatization (CS), respectively. Significant differences in conscientiousness (NS > SS), agreeableness (NS, TS > CS; NS > SS), dysfunctional coping, general distress, depression, anxiety and stress (CS ≥ SS > NS) were discerned. Multivariate analyses indicated that the odds of TS were increased by anxiety (OR = 1.10; 95% CI = 1.01-1.21), while the odds of SS/CS were affected by anxiety (OR = 1.15; 95% CI = 1.06-1.25/OR = 1.34; 95% CI = 0.19-1.52) and problem-focused coping (OR = 0.71; 95% CI = 0.56-0.89/OR = 0.55; 95% CI = 0.39-0.78). Conclusion: Though individuals with TMDs and somatization have dissimilar psychological profiles, anxiety constantly increased their likelihood. Problem-focused coping strategies may help alleviate psychosocial and physical stressors associated with TMDs and somatization.
Temporomandibular Disorders Symptoms in Asian Adolescents and Their Association with Sleep Quality and Psychological Distress

Abstract:Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) symptoms and their association with sleep quality and psychological distress in Chinese adolescents.Methods: Five hundred seventy-eight adolescents were enrolled in the study and completed a self-reported TMD symptom questionnaire and socio-demographics survey. Sleep quality and psychological distress were assessed. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis were performed with TMD symptoms as the outcome variable.Results: The prevalence of adolescents with at least one TMD symptom was 61.4%. One-third of subjects experienced disturbed sleep, depression, and stress; 65.2% experienced anxiety. Subjects with TMD symptoms had greater psychological distress and disturbed sleep than those who were symptom-free. Logistic regression analysis showed that sleep disturbance and daytime dysfunction and anxiety were significantly related to TMD symptoms.Discussion: The prevalence of TMD symptoms in Asian adolescents is high. Disturbed sleep and psychological distress are correlated with TMD; thus, a further longitudinal research of the causality is warranted.

Abstract:Objective: The association between the 'fear of missing out (FOMO)' and physical symptoms has not been widely explored. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between FOMO and other negative emotions with Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and somatic symptoms in young adults. The correlations between the various physical and emotional variables were also established. Material and methods: TMD and somatic symptoms were appraised with the Short-form Fonseca Anamnestic Index, quintessential five TMD symptoms of the Diagnostic Criteria (DC)/TMD, and Patient Health Questionnaire-15. FOMO and other negative emotional states were assessed with the FOMO Scale and Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21). Data were evaluated using non-parametric tests/correlation and regression analysis (α = 0.05). Results: While only negative affectivity (total DASS), anxiety, and stress differed significantly between those without and with TMDs, significant variances in FOMO and all DASS-21 constructs were discerned between individuals without and with somatization. Conclusions: Individuals with orofacial pain and more severe somatic symptoms have higher levels of negative emotions including FOMO. While somatization increased the prospect of TMDs, being female, presence of TMDs, and negative affectivity were risk factors for somatization in young adults. Clinical relevance: Asian young adults appear to be disposed to somatization, and TMDs may be a form of functional somatic syndromes. Recognition of somatic symptoms and emotional distress, including FOMO, is essential for person-centric TMD care.

Abstract:Objective This study aimed to conceptualise Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) symptom burden and severity and explored their interrelationships with somatic symptoms and psychological distress. Methods Participants were recruited from a local polytechnic. The quintessential five TMD symptoms (5Ts) of the Diagnostic Criteria for TMDs (DC/TMD) were appraised and extended to evaluate the duration, frequency, intensity and interference of discrete TMD symptoms. Global TMD severity (GS) was computed by totaling the points for all TMD symptoms and dimensions. TMD (TS) and somatic symptom (SS) burden were assessed based on the Somatic Symptoms Scale‐8, while psychological distress was measured with the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales‐21. Statistical analyses were performed using Kruskal–Wallis/Dunn tests and Spearman's correlation (α = .05). Result Of the 366 eligible participants (mean age 19.1 ± 2.3 years), 51.4% were 5Ts‐negative and 48.6% were 5Ts‐positive. Among the 5Ts‐positive individuals, 25.3%/64.0% were 'bothered a little' whereas 4.5%/10.7% were 'bothered a lot' by TMD pain/headache. Correspondingly, 32.6%/12.4%/5.1% were 'bothered a little' while 2.8%/2.8%/1.1% were 'bothered a lot' by TMJ sounds/closed/open locking. TS burden was moderate‐to‐strongly correlated to aggregate symptom duration, frequency, intensity, interference, GS and SS burden (rs = .50–.88). While TS burden and GS were weakly associated with psychological distress (rs = .18–.36), SS burden was moderately related to depression, anxiety and stress (rs = .47–.53). Conclusions TS burden can serve as a proxy for global TMD severity and may be more meaningful than the mere presence of TMD symptoms in clinical and research settings.

Abstract:The aim of the study was to assess the presence of anxiety and depression among the University students, and its impact on temporomandibular disorders (TMD). 145 Bachelor of Dental Science students (Year 1-Year 4; 40% male and 60% female) at Charles Sturt University (CSU) were participated in the study. Each participant completed questionnaires on the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS), the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD), the Tampa scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) and the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS). Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS version 22.0. A total of 46% students reported symptoms of TMD. Among them, 59 (40.7%) students reported presence of jaw click, 54 (37.2%) reported presence of joint pain and 26 (17.9%) reported difficulty in opening mouth. Results indicated that students who reported jaw pain (p=.004) or difficulty in opening mouth (p=.016) experienced headache symptoms. Students who reported the TMD symptoms of jaw click (69.5%), jaw pain (63%) and difficulty in opening (61.5%) were all female students. Female students experiencing jaw click was found to be significant (p =.000). Students who reported a high DASS score (indicating depression and anxiety) are significantly correlated with self-assessed TMD symptoms (jaw click, p=.054; jaw pain, p=.002 and difficulty upon opening, p=.028, respectively). This study found a significant correlation between the presence of anxiety and depression among university students and its subsequent impact on temporomandibular disorders. This leads to a recommendation for counselling and support services being made more widely available.

Abstract:Objective. In this case-control study, we investigated the presence of differing numbers and types of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) symptoms, their association with psychological distress, and their impact on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). Study Design. We recruited a total of 814 participants with TMD and 147 control subjects. The participants were instructed to complete the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders Symptom Questionnaire; the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21; and the Oral Health Impact Profile- Temporomandibular Disorders. The participants were subsequently categorized by their number and type of TMD symptoms. Data were analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis/Mann-Whitney U test (alpha =.05). Results. The mean age of the participants (N = 961) was 32.99 +/- 13.14 years, and 79.2% were women. Participants with more and all types of TMD symptoms generally exhibited significantly higher levels of psychological distress and worse OHRQoL (P <.001). Those with TMD pain plus temporomandibular joint (TMJ) sounds/dysfunction had significantly greater psychological distress, whereas those with painful symptoms and TMJ dysfunction experienced significantly more impairment in OHRQoL than individuals with only TMJ sounds. Conclusions. Psychological states and OHRQoL are influenced by the number and type of TMD symptoms. Individuals with more and all types of pain-related TMD symptoms with/without intra-articular features had greater psychological distress and OHRQoL impairment.

Abstract:In this paper, an interleaved half-bridge (IHB) three-port converter (TPC) is proposed for a renewable power system. The IHB-TPC is used to interface three power ports: 1) one source port; 2) one battery port; and 3) one isolated load port. The proposed IHB-TPC is derived by integrating two half-bridge TPC modules. A parallel configuration is adopted for the primary side of the two half-bridge modules, while a parallel-series configuration is adopted for the secondary side of the two modules. The power can be transferred from the source and the battery to the load within the whole switching cycle with the proposed IHB-TPC. It means there are no additional conduction losses caused by the circulating current or the free-wheeling operation stage. Hence, the voltage gain can be extended, and the output filter can be reduced. Zero-voltage switching is realized for all the four main switches to reduce the switching losses. Two of the three ports can be tightly regulated by adopting pulsewidth modulation plus phase-shift control, while the third port is left unregulated to maintain power balance for the system. The operation principles and the performances of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. The experimental results are given to verify the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed converter.
Prevalence and association of self-reported anxiety, pain, and oral parafunctional habits with temporomandibular disorders in Japanese children and adolescents: a cross-sectional survey

Abstract:Background: Associations between temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and psychological variables, pain conditions, and daily activities have been reported more commonly in middle-aged individuals than in children. However, to determine factor-specific preventive programs for TMD, it is important to evaluate the associations between multiple factors and TMD symptoms during childhood. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between TMD symptoms and other orofacial pain conditions, daily activities, and trait anxiety in a population-based cross-sectional survey of Japanese children and adolescents. Methods: A total of 1,415 subjects (11-15 years old) self-reported their TMD symptoms, headache, neck pain, and toothache, and completed questionnaire scales that assessed 15 daily activities. Trait anxiety was assessed using the State Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children-Trait (STAIC-T) scale. Subjects were dichotomized into a TMD group or control group, based on whether they reported at least 1 TMD symptom: the TMD group (≥1 TMD symptom, n = 182) and the control group (no TMD symptoms, n = 1,233). Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: The prevalence rates for headache and neck pain were significantly higher in the TMD group than in the control group (44.0% vs. 24.7% and 54.4% vs. 30.0%, respectively; both P < 0.001). The odds ratios for TMD symptoms in subjects with neck pain and frequent diurnal clenching were 2.08 (P < 0.001) and 3.69 (P = 0.011), respectively. Moreover, high STAIC-T scores were weakly associated with TMD symptoms. Conclusions: In this young Japanese population, TMD symptoms were associated with other orofacial pain conditions, particularly neck pain, although they were only weakly associated with trait anxiety. Diurnal clenching was strongly associated with TMD symptoms. Health professionals should carefully consider these factors when developing appropriate management strategies for TMD in children and adolescents.

Abstract:Prevalence of TMDs in CHCs. Background Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) may be an 'idiom' of psychological distress in Confucian heritage cultures (CHCs). Objectives This systematic review/meta‐analysis estimated the prevalence of TMDs in CHCs and compared the differences in TMD occurrence between time periods and age groups. Additionally, the associated biopsychosocial risk factors were also examined. Methods The study protocol was developed a priori following the PRISMA guidelines and Joanna Briggs Institute systematic review methodology (CRD42021245526). Electronic searches of seven databases were conducted from January 2002 to Dec 2021. Reference lists of identified studies were hand‐searched for additional articles. Study selection, quality assessment, and data extraction were done. Meta‐analysis was performed using the RevMan 5.4 software. Results Forty‐eight articles were included in the systematic review. Overall prevalences were: TMDs‐15% (95% CI: 15–16%); TMD pain‐8% (95% CI: 7–9%); TMJ sounds‐24% (95% CI: 21–27%); and TMJ locking‐7% (95% CI: 1–13%). While TMD prevalence appeared to have declined from 2002 to 2011 to 2012–2021, the occurrence of TMD pain, TMJ sounds, and locking increased marginally or remained constant. TMD prevalence in children/adolescents was 18% (95% CI: 14–22%) and 17% (95% CI: 16–18%) among adults. Significant associations between TMDs and bruxism/psychological distress/education levels were specified by 73%/90%/88% of the relevant studies. Conclusions TMDs are prevalent in CHCs and a slight increase in TMD pain (2%) and TMJ sounds (8%) were discerned over the past two decades. TMDs are related to a myriad of biopsychosocial variables, particularly psychological distress, and these factors must be addressed within the cultural context of patients.

Comparison of Psychological States and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life of Patients with Differing Severity of Temporomandibular Disorders

Abstract:Background Studies on temporomandibular disorder (TMD) severity in patient populations are scarce. Objectives This study sought to compare the psychological states and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among patients with differing TMD severity. Methods Adult patients (>= 18 years old) with and without (controls) TMDs were recruited from the TMD/oro-facial pain centre and prosthodontics department, respectively. The presence and severity of TMDs were established with the Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI), and TMD diagnoses were confirmed with the Diagnostic Criteria for TMDs (DC/TMD). Psychological states and OHRQoL were examined with the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21) and Oral Health Impact Profile for TMDs (OHIP-TMD). Data were subjected to chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis/Mann-Whitney U tests and Spearman's correlation (alpha = .05). Results A total of 961 participants with a mean age of 32.99 +/- 13.14 years (71.19% women) were assessed. Frequencies of the various TMD categories were as follows: no TMD/controls (12.07%), mild TMD (24.56%), moderate TMD (40.37%) and severe TMD (23.00%). The three most common TMD-related symptoms were TMJ noises, mouth opening difficulty and muscle pain. Participants with moderate/severe TMD presented a higher proportion of intra-articular and/or combined disorders. They reported significantly higher levels of depression, anxiety, stress and poorer OHRQoL than their counterparts with no/mild TMD (p < .001). Moderate-to-strong correlations were observed between FAI and DASS-21/OHIP-TMD scores (rs = 0.42-0.72). Conclusions Patients with moderate/severe TMD had significantly higher levels of psychological disturbance and poorer OHRQoL. As OHRQoL and psychological states are correlated, psychological well-being must be considered when managing patients with moderate/severe TMDs.
Relationship between psychological factors and symptoms of TMD in university undergraduate students

Abstract:Temporomandibular disorders is a collective term used to describe a number of related disorders involving the temporomandibular joints, masticatory muscles and occlusion with common symptoms such as pain, restricted movement, muscle tenderness and intermittent joint sounds. The multifactorial TMD etiology is related to emotional tension, occlusal interferences, tooth loss, postural deviation, masticatory muscular dysfunction, internal and external changes in TMJ structure and the various associations of these factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of the relationship between signs of psychological distress and temporomandibular disorder in university students. A total 150 volunteers participated in this study. They attended different courses in the field of human science at one public university and four private universities. TMD was assessed by the Research Diagnostic Criteria (RDC) questionnaire. Anxiety was measured by means of a self-evaluative questionnaire, Spielberger's Trait-State anxiety inventory, to evaluate students'state and trait anxiety. The results of the two questionnaires were compared to determine the relationship between anxiety levels and severity degrees of chronic TMD pain by means of the chi-square test. The significance level was set at 5%. The statistical analysis showed that the TMD degree has a positive association with state-anxiety (p = 0.008; p < 0.05) and negative with trait-anxiety (p = 0.619; p < 0.05). Moreover a high TMD rate was observed among the students (40%). This study concluded that there is a positive association between TMD and anxiety.
Impact of temporomandibular disorder symptoms among 15-year-old girls

Abstract:Objective: Many adolescents, especially girls, report temporomandibular disorder (TMD) symptoms that may impact their daily life. Methods: At 19 different schools participating in the preventive program with dental nurses of FRAMM (Fluoride, Advise, Arena, Motivation, Food), at the Västra Götaland Region in Sweden, 15-year-old girls were invited to a cohort study about symptoms of TMD that also included headaches. Three hundred twenty-nine girls attended the study and answered a questionnaire regarding TMD symptoms and their consequences such as sick leave from school and consumption of analgesics. The girls were asked about the symptom's influence on their daily life, about their general health, use of regular medication, physical activity, and they answered the PHQ4 regarding experienced symptoms of anxiety and depression. Results: There was a significant correlation between TMD symptoms and sick leave with 31% of the girls having stayed home due to symptoms. Of the girls who answered affirmative in the screening questions (3QTMD), nearly half the group had stayed at home due to their symptoms, 24% had consulted a physician, 42% had used analgesics weekly and 59% reported that they felt the symptoms negatively affected their school performance. The girls who had regular medication had more TMD symptoms. Anxiety and depression were associated with TMD symptoms. Conclusion: The study showed that TMD symptoms had a negative impact on the 15-year-old girls' daily life resulting in sick leave from school, consumption of analgesics, and experiences of negative impacts on their behavior and performance at school.

Abstract:Objectives The peak prevalence of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) may occur in middle age. This study determined the proportion of matured adults seeking TMD treatment and compared their diagnostic, psychological and oral health-related quality-of-life (OHRQoL) profiles to younger patients. Methods Adult subjects were recruited from a tertiary TMD centre and assigned to three age groups, namely 18-44 years (young adults [YA]), 45-64 (middle-aged adults [MA]) and >= 65 (old adults [OA]). TMD diagnoses were established with the Diagnostic Criteria for TMDs and categorised as pain-related (PT), intra-articular (IT) and combined (CT) TMDs. Psychological states and OHRQoL were assessed with the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) and Oral Health Impact Profile-TMDs (OHIP-TMDs). Demographic, DASS-21, and OHIP-TMDs data were analysed using chi-square test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation (P < .05). Results Middle-aged (19.7%; 136/692) and old (4.0%; 28/692) adults comprised about a quarter of the TMD patients. Although gender distribution was comparable, significant differences in TMD categories were observed (P < .001). Pain-related TMDs were more prevalent in the MA/OA groups while intra-articular TMDs were more frequent in the YA group. No significant difference in DASS-21 and total OHIP scores was noted among three groups. However, the MA and OA groups had significantly lower OHRQoL in the physical pain domain. Correlations between DASS-21 and OHIP-TMDs scores varied with age and ranged from r(s) = 0.47-0.92. Conclusions Matured patients constituted a quarter of TMD cohort and presented higher frequencies of painful TMDs. They have similar psychological profiles to younger patients but experienced lower OHRQoL in physical pain domain.

Abstract:Objective To explore the presence and severity of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) signs and symptoms in a Turkish pediatric population, as well as their relationship to parafunctional behaviors, bruxism, malocclusion, anxiety, and sociodemographic traits. Methods A cross‐sectional study was conducted with patients between the ages of 5–15. Demographic variables, TMD signs and symptoms, parafunctional habits, bruxism, and malocclusion were evaluated by clinical examination. Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI) was used to determine the presence and severity of TMD. State‐Trait Anxiety Scale for Children (STAI‐C) was used to evaluate the anxiety. Student t, Mann–Whitney U, chi‐square tests, and logistic regression were used for statistical analysis. Results One hundred sixty‐two participants (85 girls, 77 boys) with a mean age of 10.03 ± 1.88 years were included. The frequency of the participants who reported signs/symptoms of TMD was 19.7% according to FAI scores. Logistic regression analysis with the associated factors showed a significant relationship between the presence of the signs/symptoms of TMD and parafunctional habits (OR 4.24, 95% CI 1.64–10.93), and the presence of signs/symptoms of anxiety (OR 1.09, 95% CI 1.02–1.16). Conclusions Children and adolescents who exhibit parafunctional behaviors and anxiety had a higher likelihood of having TMD signs/symptoms of varying degrees of severity.

Abstract:AIMS:To investigate the prevalence of sleep disturbance and psychologic distress in a population of Chinese patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and whether sleep disturbance and psychologic distress are risk indicators for TMD.METHODS:Validated Chinese versions of the Self-Rating Scale of Sleep (SRSS) and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21) were used to measure sleep disturbance and psychologic distress of 510 TMD patients with a mean (± SD) age of 31.06 ± 14.40 years. TMD signs/symptoms and sociodemographic data were also collected. The patients were divided into seven diagnostic groups based on the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD). For statistical analysis, the patients were subsequently grouped into those with (n = 128) and without (n = 382) myofascial pain. The data were analyzed using chi-square tests, independent-samples t test, as well as stepwise logistic regression at a significance level of P < .05.RESULTS:The prevalence of moderate to severe sleep disturbance and psychologic distress was significantly higher in the myofascial pain group than in the non-myofascial pain group (P < .05). Stepwise logistic regression analysis demonstrated that sleep disturbance and anxiety were possible risk indicators for myofascial pain, with odds ratios of 2.41 and 4.10, respectively (P < .05).CONCLUSION:The Chinese population of TMD patients frequently reported a disturbed sleep condition and psychologic distress symptoms. Sleep disturbance and psychologic distress symptoms are possible risk indicators for myofascial pain in this population.
