Abstract:In this paper, we study the thermodynamics of Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter black holes within the framework of non-commutative geometry. By solving the Einstein's equations, we derive the corrected Schwarzschild-AdS black hole with Lorentzian distribution and analyze the thermodynamics. Our results confirm that if the energy-momentum tensor outside the event horizon is related to the mass of the black hole, the conventional first law of thermodynamics will be violated. The study of criticality reveals that the black hole undergoes a small black hole-large black hole phase transition similar to that of the Van der Waals system, with a critical point and a critical ratio slightly smaller than that of the Van der Waals fluid. As the non-commutative parameter increases, the phase transition process shortens, leading to a critical point, and ultimately to the disappearance of the phase transition. The violation of the conventional first law results in a discontinuity of the Gibbs free energy during the phase transition, indicating the occurrence of zeroth-order phase transition. Moreover, we investigate the Joule-Thomson expansion, obtaining the minimum inversion temperature and the minimum inversion mass.

Thermodynamics of 5D Charged Rotating Black Holes: A Counterterms Treatment

Abstract:We show that the calculation of the thermodynamic volume in the bulk theory is sensitive to conformal anomalies in the dual CFT, and present a new way of calculating it when the conformal anomalies do not vanish. This solves the issue where the use of the counterterms subtraction method appears to break the first law and Smarr's relation in extended phase-space. This is shown explicitly in the case of charged rotating black holes in five-dimensional minimal gauged supergravity (Chong et al. in Phys Rev Lett 95:161301, 2005), where we use the counterterms method to study the thermodynamics of the solution. Among the bulk quantities calculated using the counterterms method are the on-shell action, total mass, and angular momenta of the solution. All these quantities are consistent with previous calculations made using other methods. For the boundary CFT, we calculate the renormalized stress tensor, conformal anomaly, and Casimir energy. Using the Papadimitriou-Skenderis analysis (Papadimitriou and Skenderis in J. High Energy Phys. 08:004, 2005), we show that the mass calculated via the counterterms method satisfies the first law of black hole thermodynamics. To discuss extended thermodynamics, we extend the definition of the thermodynamic volume to cases with conformal anomalies using a procedure similar to that of Papadimitriou-Skenderis. We show that this volume correctly accounts for extra terms due to boundary metric variation.

Abstract:In the present work, considering critical gravity as a gravity model, an electrically charged topological Anti-de Sitter black hole with a matter source characterized by a nonlinear electrodynamics framework is obtained. This configuration is defined by an integration constant, three key structural constants, and a constant that represents the topology of the event horizon. Additionally, based on the Wald formalism, we probe that this configuration enjoys non-trivial thermodynamic quantities, establishing the corresponding first law of black hole thermodynamics, as well as local stability under thermal and electrical fluctuations. Additionally, via the Gibbs free energy we note that the topology of the base manifold allows us to compare this charged configuration with respect to the thermal AdS space-time, allowing us to obtain a first-order phase transition. The quasinormal modes and the greybody factor are also calculated by considering the spherical situation. We found that the quasinormal modes exhibit a straightforward change for variations of one of the structural constants.

Black hole geometrothermodynamics and critical phenomena: a look from Tsallis entropy-based perspective

Abstract:We analyze geometrothermodynamics of charged anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes with a global monopole in the framework of Tsallis statistics. The latter arises from a non-additive generalization of Boltzmann-Gibbs entropy, which is still recovered as a particular sub-case. We examine the effects of Tsallis entropy on small-large black holes phase-transitions and critical exponents, comparing the results with the liquid-gas change of phase occurring in van der Waals fluids. We also discuss some physical constraints on Tsallis parameter and the impact on sparsity of BH radiation. Thermodynamic curvature behavior is then explored from a geometric perspective within Ruppeiner formalism on the $S-P$ coordinate space. Similar considerations are extended to charged $(2+1)$-dimensional Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black holes by computing the entropy-pressure and entropy volume corrected curvatures. Our analysis shows that Tsallis prescription has non-trivial implications on black hole geometrothermodynamics, emphasizing the role of non-additive entropy on the correspondence between black holes and van der Waals systems.

Abstract:Thermodynamics of Bardeen AdS black holes has attracted a great deal of attentions due to its intrinsic complications and rich phase structures. However, the entropy and thermodynamic volume are incorrect in some literatures. In this paper we revisit the thermodynamics of Bardeen AdS black holes and provide the correct entropy and thermodynamic volume. Furthermore, thermodynamic geometries are a powerful tool to probe the microstructure of black holes. Based on the Hessian matrix of black hole mass, we introduce a thermodynamic metric and give its scalar curvature in Weinhold's geometry. The conformal relation between Weinhold's geometry and Ruppeiner's geometry will be changed due to the specific first law of thermodynamics for regular black holes like the Bardeen AdS black hole. We also investigate the critical behaviour of phase transitions in an extended phase space, and find that the critical behaviour of the Bardeen AdS black hole coincides with that of liquid-gas systems. In particular, based on the Weinhold geometry we unveil a repulsive interaction in the microstructure of the Bardeen AdS black hole under its small volume state, while it is known that only attractive interaction exists in the microstructure of the van der Waals fluid.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the thermodynamic behavior of charged AdS black holes in a conformal holographic extended thermodynamic. Our setup is constructed using a new dictionary that relates AdS black hole quantities to the corresponding dual conformal field theory (CFT) one, with the conformal factor being treated as a variable thermodynamic. In this thermodynamic study, we investigate the critical phenomena of charged AdS black holes and their relationship to the central charge value, $C$. Additionally, we examine the phase transitions and black hole stability using the free energy and the heat capacity, respectively. Furthermore, by examining the chemical potential, we establish criteria that differentiate between quantum and classical black hole behaviors. Our setup highlights one of the key findings, namely traditional black hole thermodynamics acts as a boundary between quantum and classical regimes.

Thermodynamics and Phase Transitions of Dyonic AdS Black Holes in Gauss-Bonnet-Scalar Gravity

Abstract:In this paper, by treating the cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure, we study the thermodynamics and phase transitions of the dyonic AdS black holes in Gauss-Bonnet-Scalar gravity, where the conformal scalar field is considered. In a more general extended phase space, we first verified the first law of black hole thermodynamics, and find that it is always true. Meanwhile, the corresponding Smarr relation is also obtained. Then, we found that this black hole exhibits interesting critical behaviors in six dimensions, i.e., two swallowtails can be observed simultaneously. Interestingly, in a specific parameter space, we observed the small/intermediate/large black hole phase transitions, with the triple point naturally appearing. Additionally, the small/large black hole phase transition, similar to the liquid/gas phase transition of the van der Waals fluids, can also be found in other parameter regions. Moreover, we note that the novel phase structure composed of two separate coexistence curves discovered in the dyonic AdS black holes in Einstein-Born-Infeld gravity disappears in Gauss-Bonnet-Scalar gravity. This suggests that this novel phase structure may be related to gravity theory, and importantly, it is generally observed that the triple point is a universal property of dyonic AdS black holes. On the other hand, we calculated the critical exponents near the critical points and found that they share the same values as in mean field theory. Finally, it is true that these results will provide some deep insights into the interesting thermodynamic properties of the dyonic AdS black holes in the background of conformal scalar fields.

Thermodynamics of accelerating AdS$_4$ black holes from the covariant phase space

Abstract:We study the charges and first law of thermodynamics for accelerating, non-rotating black holes with dyonic charges in AdS$_4$ using the covariant phase space formalism. In order to apply the formalism to these solutions (which are asymptotically locally AdS and admit a non-smooth conformal boundary $\mathscr{I}$) we make two key improvements: 1) We relax the requirement to impose Dirichlet boundary conditions and demand merely a well-posed variational problem. 2) We keep careful track of the codimension-2 corner term induced by the holographic counterterms, a necessary requirement due to the presence of "cosmic strings" piercing $\mathscr{I}$. Using these improvements we are able to match the holographic Noether charges to the Wald Hamiltonians of the covariant phase space and derive the first law of black hole thermodynamics with the correct "thermodynamic length" terms arising from the strings. We investigate the relationship between the charges imposed by supersymmetry and show that our first law can be consistently applied to various classes of non-supersymmetric solutions for which the cross-sections of the horizon are spindles.

Abstract:In this paper, we study thermodynamics of the regular black holes with Bardeen–AdS black hole. The cut-off radius which is the minimal radius of the stable Bardeen–AdS black hole has been obtained from temperature and heat capacity analysis, respectively. Moreover, the thermodynamical stability of the Bardeen–AdS black hole is learned by the Gibbs free energy and the heat capacity. In this work, we find similar properties to the van der Waals liquid-gas system.
Holographic thermodynamics of a five-dimensional neutral Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole

Abstract:Motivated by the recent progress on the holographic dual of the extended thermodynamics for black holes in anti-de-Sitter (AdS) space, we investiggate the hologrphic thermodynamics for the five-dimensional neutral Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole in the context of the anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence. Through the extended bulk thermodynamics for the five-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole, we derive the first law of the CFT thermodynamics which is obtained by directly translating the arbitrary conformal factors in the dual CFT. In addition to the newly defined chemical potential $\mu$ conjugating to the central charge $C$, we obtain other pairs of thermodynamics for the CFT, such as the temperature $\tilde{T}$ and the entropy $S$, the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant $\tilde{\alpha}$ and its conjugate variable $ \tilde{\mathcal{A}}$, the pressure $\mathcal{P}$ and its conjugate volume $\mathcal{V}$. In the fixed $C$, $\mathcal{V}$ and $\tilde{\alpha}$ canonical ensemble, we obtain the canonical description of the CFT thermodynamics and observe the standard swallowtail behavior in the Helmholtz free energy vs the temperature plot. The self-intersection point of the Helmholtz free energy indicates the phase transition between the high and low entropy states of the CFT. By using Maxwell's equal area law, we get the critical point and coexistence curve for the high and low entropy phases of the CFT. Besides, we get the critical exponents for the CFT, and find that the critical point and critical exponents associated with the $\tilde{T}-S$ criticality of the CFT are the same as those of the five-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole.

Holographic thermodynamics of a charged AdS black holes with global monopole

Abstract:By regarding the Newton constant {G}N and cosmological constant {\Lambda} as variables, we in this paper study the thermodynamics and phase transition of Reissner-Nordstrom anti-de Sitter (RN-AdS) black hole with global monopole in the framework of AdS/CFT correspondence. It is found that there are interesting critical phenomena and phase behaviors in the (grand) canonical ensembles of fixed (Q, V, C), ({\Phi}, V, C) and (Q, V, {\mu}). When the other parameters are fixed, the free energy increases with the global monopole increases. In (Q, V, C) ensemble, the range of unstable region increases with the increase of global monopole. In ({\Phi}, V, C) ensemble, when {\Phi} < {\Phi}c, the free energy appears two branches, the upper and lower branches correspond to low entropy and high entropy respectively. When (Q, V, {\mu}) is fixed, a new zero-order phase transition occurs in the high-entropy phase and the low-entropy phase at certain {\mu}-dependent temperatures. When {\mu} increases to a certain value, this zero-order phase transition disappears. This certain value is positively related to the magnitude of the global monopole. Finally, we find that p-V criticality does not appear with the change of global monopole. Therefore, it is important to note that the CFT states of charged black holes with global monopole do not correspond to Van der Waals fluids. Finally, we find that charged black holes with global monopoles can better reflect thermodynamic phase transitions and critical phenomena under the AdS/CFT correspondence. By adjusting the change of the global monopole, the thermodynamic phase transition will also change.

Abstract:Considering the nonminimal coupling of the dilaton field to the massive graviton field in Maxwell-dilaton-massive gravity, we obtain a class of analytical solutions of charged black holes, which are neither asymptotically flat nor (A)dS. The calculated thermodynamic quantities, such as mass, temperature and entropy, verify the validity of the first law of black hole thermodynamics. Moreover, we further investigate the critical behaviors of these black holes in the grand canonical and canonical ensemble, and find a novel critical phenomenon never before observed, known as the ``reverse" reentrant phase transition with a tricritical point. It implies that the system undergoes a novel ``SBH-LBH-SBH" phase transition process, and is the reverse of the ``LBH-SBH-LBH" process observed in reentrant phase transitions.

Abstract:We consider the thermodynamics of the Einstein-power-Yang-Mills AdS black holes in the context of the gauge-gravity duality. Under this framework, Newton's gravitational constant and the cosmological constant are varied in the system. We rewrite the thermodynamic first law in a more extended form containing both the pressure and the central charge of the dual conformal field theory, i.e., the restricted phase transition formula. A novel phenomena arises: the dual quantity of pressure is the effective volume, not the geometric one. That leads to a new behavior of the Van de Waals-like phase transition for this system with the fixed central charge: the supercritical phase transition. From the Ehrenfest's scheme perspective, we check out the second-order phase transition of the EPYM AdS black hole. Furthermore the effect of the non-linear Yang-Mills parameter on these thermodynamic properties is also investigated.
Holographic CFT Phase Transitions and Criticality for Rotating AdS Black Holes

Abstract:Employing the novel exact dictionary between the laws of extended black hole thermodynamics and the laws of the dual CFT, we study the extended thermodynamics for CFT states that are dual to neutral singly-spinning asymptotically AdS black holes in $d$ bulk spacetime dimensions. On the field theory side we include two independent pairs of thermodynamic conjugate variables: the central charge-chemical potential term and the pressure-volume term. In this setting we uncover various phase transitions and critical behaviour in the CFT, focusing on three different thermodynamic ensembles. Namely, for fixed angular momentum and central charge, we show there is a Van der Waals-like criticality for $d=4,5$ and reentrant phase transitions for $d\ge 6$. At fixed angular velocity and central charge, there is a first-order (de)confinement phase transition in all dimensions $d \ge 3$. Finally, at fixed angular momentum and chemical potential we find a plethora of zero-order phase transitions and unstable phases in both $d=4$ and $d=6$.

Abstract:Boltzmann entropy-based thermodynamics of charged anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes has been shown to exhibit physically interesting features, such as $P-V$ criticalities and van der Waals-like phase transitions. In this work we extend the study of these critical phenomena to Kaniadakis theory, which is a non-extensive generalization of the classical statistical mechanics incorporating relativity. By applying the typical framework of condensed-matter physics, we analyze the impact of Kaniadakis entropy onto the equation of state, the Gibbs free energy and the critical exponents of AdS black holes in the extended phase space. Additionally, we investigate the underlying micro-structure of black holes in Ruppeiner geometry, which reveals appreciable deviations of the nature of the particle interactions from the standard behavior. Our analysis opens up new perspectives on the understanding of black hole thermodynamics in a relativistic statistical framework, highlighting the role of non-extensive corrections in the AdS black holes/van der Waals fluids dual picture.

Warped AdS$_3$ black hole thermodynamics and the charged Cardy formula

Abstract:We revisit the thermodynamic properties of black holes with warped AdS$_3$ asymptotics in topologically massive gravity. The holographically dual theory, often referred to as warped CFT$_2$, exhibits a single copy of the Virasoro-Kac-Moody algebra. Consequently, the asymptotic density of states in the right-moving sector is described by the charged Cardy formula that we review in detail. By defining specific linear combinations of the gravitational thermodynamic potentials, we are able to present the gravitational left- and right-moving on-shell actions directly in the grand-canonical ensemble. This allows us to demonstrate that, apart from the charged Cardy behavior in the right-moving sector, the dual field theory exhibits an additional frozen left-moving state giving rise to non-zero entropy contribution. Our findings elucidate the nature of warped CFTs and reveal subtle yet fundamental differences from the existing literature.

Thermodynamic curvature of charged black holes with $AdS_2$ horizons

Abstract:Sign and magnitude of the thermodynamic curvature provides empirical information about the nature of microstructures of a general thermodynamic system. For charged black holes in AdS, thermodynamic curvature is positive for large charge or chemical potential, and diverges for extremal black holes, indicating strongly repulsive nature. We compute the thermodynamic curvature at low temperatures, for charged black holes with AdS$_2$ near horizon geometry, and containing a zero temperature horizon radius $r_h$, in a spacetime which asymptotically approaches $AdS_D$ (for $D>3$). In the semi-classical analysis at low temperatures, the curvature shows a novel crossover from negative to positive side, indicating the shift from attraction to repulsion dominated regime near $T=0$, before diverging as $1/(\gamma T)$, where $\gamma$ is the coefficient of leading low temperature correction to entropy. Accounting for quantum fluctuations, the curvature computed in the canonical ensemble is positive, whereas the one in the grand canonical ensemble, continues to show a crossover from negative to positive side. Moreover, the divergence of curvature at $T=0$ is cured irrespective of the ensemble used, resulting in a universal constant.

Abstract:In this paper, the thermodynamic property of charged AdS black holes is studied in rainbow gravity. By the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle and the modified dispersion relation, we obtain deformed temperature. Moreover, in rainbow gravity we calculate the heat capacity in a fixed charge and discuss the thermal stability. We also obtain a similar behaviour with the liquid-gas system in extending phase space (including P and r ) and study its critical behavior with the pressure given by the cosmological constant and with a fixed black hole charge Q . Furthermore, we study the Gibbs function and find its characteristic swallow tail behavior, which indicates the phase transition. We also find that there is a special value about the mass of test particle which would lead the black hole to zero temperature and a diverging heat capacity with a fixed charge.
