Abstract:A novel magnetic metal organic framework composite (Fe3O4@MOF-808) was synthesized by a facile solvothermal method and applied as an adsorbent for the magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of benzoylurea insecticides (BUs) from tea beverages and juice samples. The prepared materials were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometry measurements and N2 adsorption-desorption experiments. The adsorption (adsorbent amount, extraction time and pH) and elution (elution solvent, elution volume and time) parameters were investigated in detail. Under the optimized experimental conditions, Fe3O4@MOF-808 exhibited simpler and better reusability than commercial C18, with an equivalent adsorption effect. Notably, π-π interactions, hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonding interactions contributed to the good adsorption of BUs by Fe3O4@MOF-808. Finally, a simple and sensitive method was established using Fe3O4@MOF-808-based MSPE coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). It provided low limits of detection (0.04-0.15 ng/mL), wide linear ranges (0.15-50 ng/mL) and satisfactory recoveries (84.6-98.3%). The proposed method was successfully applied for the fast and sensitive determination of BUs in tea beverages and juice samples.

Abstract:Ferric oxide/carbon (Fe2O3@C) was fabricated via direct carbonization of metal-organic framework of iron (MOF-235) under argon atmosphere. The magnetic Fe2O3 nanoparticles are evenly embedded in porous carbon matrix, while original morphology of MOF-235 was well-maintained. The synthesized Fe2O3@C was used as magnetic sorbent for extracting five benzoylurea insecticides (BUs). The materials exhibited excellent extraction performance, which benefited not only from the strong π-π interaction and hydrophobic interaction (π-conjugated system), but also to the abundant adsorption sites and flexible transport channel (the interconnected 3D porous structure). A three-factor-three-level Box-Behnken design (BBD) was selected to optimize three greatly influential parameters: amount of adsorbent (A), desorption time (B) and volume of desorption solvent (C) by response surface methodology. The established method coupled to HPLC-UV detection showed wide linearity with the range of 0.2-450 μg•L−1, relatively low limits of detection (0.05-0.10 μg•L−1) with the relative standard deviation (RSD) (n=7) lower t than 5.47%. Moreover, the proposed method was successfully applied to analyze BUs in tea samples and investigate the removal effect of different washing on BUs residues from tea leaf. These results indicated that the synthesized Fe2O3@C is a promising adsorbent material for magnetic solid phase extraction of BUs at trace concentrations from tea samples.

Abstract:We developed a magnetic solid-phase extraction method using Fe3O4@poly dopamine(Fe3O4@PDA)as adsor-bents,coupled with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS),for the enrichment and quantification of trace matrine and oxymatrine pesticide residues in tea.The adsorbent was easily synthesized at room temperature with high yields(500 mg).We inves-tigated and optimized several factors that influence the efficiency of the method,including matrix pH,adsor-bent amount,adsorption time,type of elution solvent,and desorption time.The developed method demon-strated good linearity in the range of 3.75-187.50 μg/kg(R2≥ 0.999),low determination limit(1.88 μg/kg),sat-isfactory recoveries(88.7-110.5％),and good precision(RSDs ≤ 10.2％).Finally,the established method was suc-cessfully applied to the determination of matrine and oxy-matrine residues in real tea samples,and the results showed that this method is simple,rapid,sensitive,and suitable for determining trace matrine and oxymatrine in various tea samples.

Abstract:Efficient and stable water purification is essential for the protection of water resources. Current adsorbents based on metal-organic frameworks face limitations of restricted active sites and single adsorption objects. In this study, we developed a cost-effective and environmentally friendly Tea-L-CDs@Ce-UiO-66-F4 composites by growing Tea and L-tryptophan carbon dots (Tea-L-CDs) over Ce-UiO-66-F4 MOF, and the interaction force was enhanced by hydrogen bonding (-F/O/N...H-O-, -F/O/N...H-N-, etc.) to achieve universal adsorption. In detail, the maximum adsorption capacity (qm) of the adsorbent for trypan blue (TB), congo red (CR), and CR (adjust pH) was 773.4, 1428.6, and 4761.9 mg/g. The universal experiment showed that the composites exhibited excellent qm for alizarin red S (ARS, 662.7 mg/g) and rhodamine B (RdB, 374.0 mg/g). Meanwhile, Tea-L-CDs@Ce-UiO66-F4 composites maintained good anti-interference ability (salt solution, temperature, etc.). Remarkably, the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent for dyes exceeded 97 % of qm within 1 min of contact time. The adsorption performance of synthetic material for TB, CR, ARS, and RdB is better than most of the adsorbents, especially the qm for TB is higher than any adsorbent previously reported. Besides, this adsorbent had excellent storage stability in the air for 30 days. Based on this nanomaterial, we successfully developed an automated dye filtration and contamination assessment system for blocking dye-attached adsorbent and online detection of dye residues after water purification. Thus, the synthesized Tea-L-CDs@Ce-UiO-66-F4 composites, with universal adsorption, high efficiency, and good storage stability, hold great potential for wastewater purification.

Abstract:A method has been developed for the determination of 33 pesticide residues in tea, including organophosphorous, organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticides. The target analytes were extracted with the solution of acetone/dichloromethane (1:1, v/v) using accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) and then purified using gel permeation chromatography (GPC) to eliminate most of the coextracts, such as pigments, lipids and waxes. They were further purified using Carb-NH2 and Florisil solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridges prior to the identification using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The quantitative analysis was performed with flame photometric detector (FPD) for organophosphorous pesticides and electron capture detector (ECD) for organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticides. At the spiked level of 0.05 mg/kg, the recoveries for most pesticides were between 70%–120%; the relative standard deviations were less than 20%; the limits of detection varied from 0.005 to 0.05 mg/kg (defined in terms of 10 times of the baseline noise). This method is precise, sensitive and highly efficient in extraction. After routine applications, the results indicated that this method is suitable for the determination of pesticide residues in the tea for export.
Fabrication of fluorinated magnetic microporous organic network for selective and efficient extraction of benzoylurea insecticides in tea beverages

Abstract:In this work, a novel fluorinated magnetic microporous organic network (Fe3O4@FMON) was exquisitely designed and synthesized for highly efficient and selective magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of fluorinated benzoylurea insecticides (BUs) from complex tea beverage samples. The Fe3O4@FMON exhibited good extraction for BUs via the pre-designed hydrophobic, π-π stacking, hydrogen bonding and specific FF interactions. A sensitive Fe3O4@FMON-based MSPE-HPLC-UV method with wide linear range (0.10-1000 μg L-1, R2 ≥ 0.996), low limits of detection (0.01-0.02 μg L-1), and large enrichment factors (85.6-98.0) for BUs from tea beverage samples was developed. By decorating F elements within MON's networks, the Fe3O4@FMON characterized good hydrophobicity and chemical stability, which could be reused at least 8 times without decrease of recoveries. This work demonstrated the great prospects of Fe3O4@FMON for enriching trace BUs from complex substrates and triggered the potential of FMON for sample pretreatment of fluorinated analytes.

The extraction efficiency is optimized through single-factor adjustments of key parameters, including adsorbent quantity (5-20 mg), adsorption duration (5-20 min), desorbent identity (methanol, acetonitrile), volume (100-600 μL), sodium chloride concentration (0-10%, m/v), and sample solution pH (3-8). The optimized method demonstrates linearity in the range of 2-500 μg L-1, with limits of detection (LODs) ranging from 0.6-1.5 μg L-1 and limits of quantification (LOQs) from 2.0 5.0 μg L-1. Recovery rates of 81.2-96.0% are achieved, with intra-day relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 1.4-2.8% and inter-day relative standard deviations of 2.0-3.9%, indicating high accuracy and repeatability. The successful application of detecting residues in commercial tea samples underscores the strong potential of the technique to determine benzoylurea analyte levels.

Abstract:A novel Fe3O4@MDN magnetic nanomaterial was successfully developed as a magnetic dispersive solid-phase extraction adsorbent for the determination of triazole pesticide residuals in honey samples by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). The macromolecular structure named MDN was coated on the surface of a copolymer synthesized with silyl reagents methacrylic acid-3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl ester (MPS) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) based on ferriferrous oxide (Fe3O4), whose characteristics were confirmed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The proposed magnetic dispersive solid-phase extraction (MDSPE) method provided a rapid, environmentally friendly and magnetic stuff recyclable approach for the triazole pesticide analysis. By means of optimal conditions, the recoveries of 15 triazoles (spiked at 20 mu g kg(-1)) ranged from 90.5 to 105.9%. The method showed good linearity, sensitivity in the range of mu g per kilogram and repeatability (relative standard deviation below 6.8%, n = 5). The proposed method was confirmed to be a simple, rapid and efficient method for the analysis of triazole pesticide residuals in honey samples.
Β-Ketoenamine Covalent Organic Frameworks Based Magnetic Solid-Phase Microextraction for Rapid Determination of 12 Organophosphate Esters in Surface Water

Abstract:In this work, Fe3O4/Tp-BHBD beta-ketoenamine covalent organic framework (COF) was rapidly prepared. Then, it was used as magnetic solid phase microextraction (MSPE) adsorbents for the adsorption and determination of organophosphate ester (OPE) residues in surface water coupling with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The results of material characterization tests confirmed the generation of magnetized COF. The adsorption process was optimized by Box-Behnken Design and one-factor optimization experiments. After five use cycles, Fe3O4/Tp-DHBD still achieved good adsorption and high recovery. Under the optimal conditions, the developed Fe3O4/Tp-DHBD COF-MSPE-HPLC-MS/MS method obtained good linearity for 12 OPEs within 0.25-50.0 ng mL-1 and the limit of detection of 0.02-0.18 ng mL-1. The relative standard deviations were less than 8.6 %. Rapid detection and analysis of three samples from wastewater treatment plant showed that the recoveries of most of target OPEs at different spiked concentrations ranged from 62.0 % to 116.9 %, 60.9 %-115.1 %, and 60.4 %-112.9 %, respectively. In general, the established COF-MSPE method can provide convenient and satisfactory purification for OPEs compounds in surface water by adsorption and desorption, which is promising for specific applications.
Development of a Zeolite H-ZSM-5-Based D-μSPE Method for the Determination of Organophosphorus Pesticides in Tea Beverages

Abstract:In this study, a novel dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (D-μSPE) technique with H-ZSM-5 zeolite as an adsorbent was developed for the determination of 21 trace pesticides in tea beverages. The adsorption and desorption of H-ZSM-5 zeolites were investigated based on structural characteristics and adsorption properties similar to those of H-beta zeolites. In combination with the properties of the adsorbates, it was explained that the adsorption reaction occurred on the microporous surface and mesopores of H-ZSM-5. Based on optimal parameters, the beverage samples were extracted by 50 mg of zeolite within 1 min. The zeolite was eluted with 2 mL of an acetonitrile-water mixture after separation, and the eluent was filtered prior to HPLC-MS/MS analysis. The D-μSPE protocol demonstrated acceptable accuracy and precision, with recoveries between 62.1% and 106.6% and relative standard deviations of 1.4% to 12.6%, as validated by analytical reliability. The correlation coefficient in the linear range of 0.2–50 ng·mL−1 was greater than 0.98, with limits of detection of 0.05–0.1 ng·mL−1 and limits of quantification of 0.1–0.2 ng·mL−1. The matrix effects ranged from 76.2% to 112.7%. The results indicate that the novel D-μSPE technique based on H-ZSM-5 is a rapid, simple, green and economical method for the determination of pesticide residues in tea beverages. The proposed method achieved simultaneously low adsorbent dosage, 20-fold enrichment factor, rapid pre-concentration in 12 min, minimal organic wastes, and effective reduction of matrix interference.

Abstract:Pesticide residues exceeding standard in green tea is a widespread problem of the world's attention, containing organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs), and pyrethroids. In this research, three dimensionally honeycomb Mg-Al layered double oxide (TDH-Mg-Al-LDO) combined with graphitized carbon black (GCB), packed as a column, was used as a novel solid phase extraction sorbent, applying in simultaneous determination of 15 pesticide residues in green tea coupled with GC-MS. Compared with different type of SPE column, it showed that TDH-Mg-Al-LDO exhibited great advantages in the extraction of 15 pesticide residues from green tea, which was seldom reported before. Different experiment conditions, such as combination order of Mg-Al-LDO and GCB, dosage of sorbents, type and volume of eluting solvent were thoroughly studied and optimized. The limits of detection (LODs) of 15 pesticides ranged from 0.9 to 24.2ng/g and the limits of quantifications (LOQs) were ranging from 3.0 to 80.0ng/g. The recoveries using this method at three spiked concentration levels (10, 100 and 500ng/g for Fenthion, P,P'-DDE, O,P'-DDT, P,P'-DDD and Bifenthrin, 100, 500 and 2000ng/g for the others) range from 71.1 to 119.0%. The relative standard deviation (RSD) was from 0.1 to 7.6% in all case. The result indicated that the proposed analytical method had been successfully applied for the simultaneous determination of 15 pesticide residues in commercial green tea.

Abstract:This research involves the construction of a phenylboronic acid-functionalized magnetic UiO-66 metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticle (@Fe 3 O 4 ). Its design is primarily for the magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of benzoylurea insecticides. An organic ligand, 2-amino terephthalic acid (2-ATPA), facilitated the introduction of amino groups while keeping the original crystal structure of UiO-66 intact. The constructed UiO-66 MOF showcases a porous structure and extensive surface area, thereby providing an optimal platform for further functionalization. The employment of 4-carboxylphenylboronic acid as a modifier notably amplified the extraction efficiency for benzoylureas. This improvement was due to the formation of B-N coordination and other secondary interactions. By integrating this with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), we established a quantitative analytical method for benzoylurea insecticides. This method achieved a wide linear range (2.5-500 μg·L −1 or 5-500 μg·L −1 ), satisfactory recoveries (83.3-95.1%), and acceptable limits of detection (LODs: 0.3-1.0 μg·L −1 ). The developed method proved successful when applied to six tea infusion samples, representing China's six major tea categories. Semi-fermented and light-fermented tea samples demonstrated relatively higher spiking recoveries.

Simultaneous determination of 14 pesticide residues in tea by multi-plug filtration cleanup combined with LC-MS/MS

Abstract:A combined method of multi-plug filtration cleanup (m-PFC) and liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was established to simultaneously detect 14 pesticides in tea. The pesticides in water-soaked tea were extracted with acetonitrile. Cleanup of tea extract was performed using an m-PFC column packed with multiple cleanup materials: multi-walled carbon nano-tubes (MWCNTs), primary secondary amine (PSA) and anhydrous magnesium sulfate (MgSO4). The cleanup effect of the column was evaluated based on the rates of removal of tea components that interfered with pesticide recovery, henceforth referred to as interference components. Results showed that 14 pesticides had strong linearity in the range of 5–500 μg L−1 (r2 > 0.99). The quantitative limits were within the range of 3–50 μg kg−1. The average recoveries of 14 pesticides spiked into three different blank tea samples (green tea, black tea, oolong tea) at three levels of 0.05, 0.50 and 2.00 mg kg−1 were in the range of 62.3–108.8% with relative standard deviations of 0.2–13.6%. The m-PFC method can greatly improve the efficiency of sample pretreatment. Furthermore, this work provides methodological guidance on how to select cleanup materials and allocate their proportions.

Abstract:Environmental contamination caused by heavy metals is a significant global concern. The presented study investigated the efficiency of iron PAMAM-OH encapsulated magnetic nanoparticles (Fe-MNP-G2-OH) as sorbent for the preconcentration of copper and cobalt from tea samples. High metal-chelating ethylenediamine core polyamidoethanol generation-2 (PAMAM-G2-OH) was encapsulated with iron oxide (Fe 3 O 4 ) to synthesize the sorbent. Limit of detection (LOD) values for copper and cobalt extracted and detected by the developed Fe-MNP-G2-OH -SPE-FAAS method were 0.52 and 1.1 μg L −1 , respectively. There were 230- and 101-fold improvement in detection limits for copper and cobalt, respectively, when compared to direct FAAS measurement. The percent recovery results for the analytes in green and black tea samples ranged from 93 to 107%, with low relative standard deviation (%RSD) values. The synthesis of nanoparticle was carried out through a unique method, which was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) methods. The analytical results demonstrated the applicability and effectiveness of Fe-MNP-G2-OH nanoparticles on the preconcentration of copper and cobalt from tea samples and the developed method is suitable for the trace detection of heavy metals by FAAS method. To the best our knowledge, this is the first study where copper and cobalt in green and black tea samples were extracted by Fe-MNP-G2-OH adsorbent and precipitation of the adsorbent during its synthesis was carried out in acetone medium rather than aqueous one.

Abstract:Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and sulfur-containing heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PASHs) are typical organic pollutants that are commonly present in the environment. Due to the continuous accumulation and transfer in the food chain, they will pose a significant threat to human life and health. In the present work, a new method was constructed with a ternary magnetic nanocomposite (Fe0@MXene@COF-LZU1) based magnetic solid phase extraction in combination with gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) for sensitive determination of them at trace level in Chinese tea samples. The magnetic nanomaterial Fe0@MXene@COF-LZU1 was synthesized via reduction and Schiff base reactions. The experimental results demonstrated that Fe0@MXene@COF-LZU1 had high adsorption ability and satisfactory chemical stability. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the method possessed good linearity in the concentration ranges of 0.0005 μgL−1 - 50 μg L−1 for dibenzothiophene (DBT), phenanthrene (PHE), fluoranthene (FLT) and pyrene (PYR), and 0.001 μg L−1 - 50 μg L−1 for 4-methyldibenzothiophene (4-MDBT) and 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DMDBT). The detection limits of this method were in the range of 0.014 ng L−1-0.83 ng L−1. The results of real samples demonstrated that the designed magnetic nanocomposite had a promising application prospect for measuring PAHs and PASHs.

Abstract:Highlights • Rapid test for simultaneous detection of 9 pesticide residues in tea leaves. • An extract-purify-dilute method was optimized for sample rapid pretreatment. • The entire test is easy-to-use, cost-effective, and can be finished within 30 min. The application of pesticides (mostly insecticides and fungicides) during the tea-planting process will undoubtedly increase the dietary risk associated with drinking tea. Thus, it is necessary to ascertain whether pesticide residues in tea products exceed the maximum residue limits. However, the complex matrices present in tea samples comprise a major challenge in the analytical detection of pesticide residues. In this study, 9 types of lateral flow immunochromatographic strips (LFICSs) were developed to detect the pesticides of interest (fenpropathrin, chlorpyrifos, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam, acetamiprid, carbendazim, chlorothalonil, pyraclostrobin, and iprodione). To reduce the interference of tea substrates on the assay sensitivity, the pretreatment conditions for tea samples, including the extraction solvent, extraction time, and purification agent, were optimized for the simultaneous detection of these pesticides. The entire testing procedure (including pretreatment and detection) could be completed within 30 min. The detected results of authentic tea samples were confirmed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, which suggest that the LFICS coupled with sample rapid pretreatment can be used for on-site rapid screening of the target pesticide in tea products prior to their market release. Application of solid-phase microextraction and LCMS/MS for the detection of pesticide residues

Abstract:Aiming at the organophosphorus pesticide residues in tea, a method integrating solid-phase microextraction and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was investigated for the detection of organophosphorus pesticide residues in tea. Firstly, the conditions in the process were optimized; then the method was established to analyze the organophosphorus pesticides in tea; finally, the method feasibility was verified by using actual sample determination. In terms of the results, the standard curve correlation coefficients of the solid-phase microextraction and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry methods used in the study were greater than 0.99, while the average recoveries ranged from 72 to 109% with the relative standard deviations (RSDs) of less than 9.0%. This indicates that the method has a good linear range, low detection limit and high recovery. In the application validation in real samples, the concentrations of organophosphorus pesticide residues in tea were within the safe range. The method was validated to be suitable for the monitoring and control of organophosphorus pesticide residues in tea with low cost and simplified sample preparation.
