Abstract:We describe the first intraprosthetic dislocations of a 22 mm head in a dual mobility hip replacement in the literature. This case emphasises the importance of information gathering and planning when dealing with arthroplasty complications. Furthermore, it highlights the necessity of adequate muscle relaxation and analgesia when dealing with hip dislocations. A 78-year-old patient presented to the emergency department (ED) with a spontaneous dislocation of her left dual-mobility total hip replacement 3 months after first-stage revision surgery for infection. Reduction via manipulation under analgesia was then attempted in the ED but was ultimately unsuccessful; an iatrogenic intraprosthetic dislocation of the polyethylene liner was sustained. Several factors may have contributed to liner dislocation: a failure to appreciate the implant type, multiple manipulations in ED were attempted under analgesia, but no sedation or muscle relaxation was administered to the patient. The patient subsequently underwent revision surgery.

Abstract:Total hip arthroplasty stands as a milestone in surgical success for alleviating hip arthritis-related pain and enhancing patients' quality of life. While complications persist, advancements like dual-mobility articulation aims to mitigate risks. This manuscript presents an unprecedented unique complication in a 60-year-old woman with a revision dual mobility THA. The metal liner displaced from its original position causing impingement at the medial aspect of the femoral neck and deformation of the acetabular shell. Radiographic evidence revealed the displaced liner cutting into the femoral neck. This unusual complication prompted a re-revision, revealing severe damage to the acetabular cup and femoral neck. While intra-prosthetic dislocations in dual-mobility articulations are recognized, this case deviates from conventional types, emphasizing the need for ongoing vigilance in prosthesis design and patient follow-up. This case report highlights a new variant of intra-prosthetic dislocations to the existing literature on dual-mobility THA complications.

Abstract:Purpose Postoperative dislocation is one of the most common complications following total hip arthroplasty (THA), and dual mobility articulations have been designed to provide greater hip stability. However, there are few studies that have assessed outcomes of these designs in revision THAs. Our purpose was to evaluate differences in dislocation rates, aseptic survivorship, and patient outcomes between dual mobility articulations and conventional arthroplasties in the revision setting. Methods Patients who underwent revision THA with dual mobility articulations (n = 60) were matched (1:2) to patients who had conventional single articulation prostheses (n = 120). They were matched for body mass index, age, gender, and Paprosky acetabular defect classification, and were followed up for a mean of 30 months (range, 18 to 52 months). The outcomes were evaluated preoperatively and at final follow-up using Harris Hip Scores, the University of California Los Angeles activity scale, and the Short Form-36 questionnaires. Results The dual mobility group had lower dislocation (1.7% (1 out of 60) versus 5.8% (7 out of 120)) and aseptic loosening rates (1.7% (1 out of 60) versus 4.2% (5 out of 120)) compared to the control group. There were no significant differences in functional outcomes, activity level, or overall physical and mental health status between the 2 cohorts. Conclusions When used in the revision setting, dual mobility bearings had fewer dislocations. We believe that these designs may lead to clinically significant improvements in complications while also improving patient reported and functional outcomes, but larger cohort studies are necessary for evaluation.

A novel extracellular domain variant of the human integrin alpha 7 subunit generated by alternative intron splicing.

Abstract:The integrin alpha 7 beta 1 laminin receptor, which is expressed on replicating myoblasts, and upregulated during myogenic differentiation, is involved in cell adhesion and communication between muscle cells and the extracellular matrix. It is a major cell-surface substrate in skeletal muscle cells for the cell-surface, argininespecific, ADP-ribosyltransferase. Both the extracellular and cytoplasmic domains of the mouse alpha 7 subunit undergo alternative splicing during development, generating differentially expressed variants with presumably unique ligand-binding and signalling properties. Here human cDNA clones isolated from a fetal heart lambda gt10 cDNA library encoded the complete sequence of the alpha 7 subunit and hybridised to a single major 4.4 kb alpha 7 subunit transcript abundantly expressed in human skeletal muscle, moderately expressed in heart, and weakly expressed in most other tissues. One clone out of four contained a novel 225-nucleotide in-frame deletion corresponding to 75 amino acids in the C-terminal region of the extracellular domain. The variant, whose expression appears to be tissue-specific, is created by alternative splicing at sites flanking an intron in the alpha 7 gene. A related mouse form was identified in P19 embryonal carcinoma cells. Deletion of the spliced region, which either contains or is in very close proximity to the major ADP-ribosylation site of the alpha 7 subunit, may serve to modulate the effects of ADP-ribosylation, or alternatively molecular associations, and receptor-ligand affinity.
The Use of Dual-Mobility Implants Through a Direct Anterior Approach as a Safe and Effective Technique for Revision Hip Arthroplasty: The Two-Year Follow-Up of a Case Series

Abstract:Background Dislocation is one of the most prominent and challenging complications following the revision of total hip arthroplasty (THA). Dual-mobility cups are an option to address this problem. There is, however, little data on the outcomes of modern modular dual-mobility (MDM) cups in the revision of THA. In this study, the clinical and radiological outcomes following the revision of THA with an MDM cup using the direct anterior approach (DAA) were evaluated. Methodology We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent a revision of THA between March 2017 and July 2019. The inclusion criteria were a revision of THA using an MDM cup through the DAA. A uniform acetabular implant was used in each revision. Outcome measures were assessed radiographically and clinically. The clinical outcome measures consisted of dislocation, infection, and re-revision. Functional assessment was performed using the Harris Hip Score preoperatively and at the last clinical examination in our department. Results This study retrospectively identified a cohort of 26 patients who underwent a revision of THA. Two patients were excluded due to incomplete follow-up because they died. Finally, 24 patients were included. A total of 17 isolated acetabular revisions and seven complete revisions were performed with a mean follow-up of 39 months (range = 29-59). No dislocations or deep infections were observed in our population to date. Except for one case of early aseptic loosening of the acetabular component, we observed no other signs of loosening, osteolysis, migration, or intraprosthetic dislocation. Conclusions THA revision through the DAA using an MDM cup is a safe and effective procedure. We observed no dislocation in a high-risk population undergoing THA revision surgery during a minimal follow-up of two years.

Abstract:Aims Dual-mobility (DM) components are increasingly used to prevent and treat dislocation after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Intraprosthetic dissociation (IPD) is a rare complication of DM that is believed to have decreased with contemporary implants. This study aimed to report incidence, treatment, and outcomes of contemporary DM IPD. Methods A total of 1,453 DM components were implanted at a single academic institution between January 2010 and December 2021: 695 in primary and 758 in revision THA. Of these, 49 presented with a dislocation of the large DM head and five presented with an IPD. At the time of closed reduction of the large DM dislocation, six additional IPDs occurred. The mean age was 64 years (SD 9.6), 54.5% were female (n = 6), and mean follow-up was 4.2 years (SD 1.8). Of the 11 IPDs, seven had a history of instability, five had abductor insufficiency, four had prior lumbar fusion, and two were conversions for failed fracture management. Results The incidence of IPD was 0.76%. Of the 11 IPDs, ten were missed either at presentation or after attempted reduction. All ten patients with a missed IPD were discharged with a presumed reduction. The mean time from IPD to surgical treatment was three weeks (0 to 23). One patient died after IPD prior to revision. Of the ten remaining hips with IPD, the DM head was exchanged in two, four underwent acetabular revision with DM exchange, and four were revised to a constrained liner. Of these, five (50%) underwent reoperation at a mean 1.8 years (SD 0.73), including one additional acetabular revision. No patients who underwent initial acetabular revision for IPD treatment required subsequent reoperation. Conclusion The overall rate of IPD was low at 0.76%. It is essential to identify an IPD on radiographs as the majority were missed at presentation or after iatrogenic dissociation. Surgeons should consider acetabular revision for IPD to allow conversion to a larger DM head, and take care to remove impinging structures that may increase the risk of subsequent failure. Position of the Prosthesis and the Incidence of Dislocation Following Total Hip Replacement

Abstract:Background Dislocation is the second most common complication of hip replacement surgery, and impact of the prosthesis is believed to be the fundamental reason. The present study employed Solidworks 2003 and MSC-Nastran software to analyze the three dimensional variables in order to investigate how to prevent dislocation following hip replacement surgery.Methods Computed tomography (CT) imaging was used to collect femoral outline data and Solidworks 2003 software was used to construct the cup model with variabilities. Nastran software was used to evaluate dislocation at different prosthesis positions and different geometrical shapes. Three dimensional movement and results from finite element method were analyzed and the values of dislocation resistance index (DRI), range of motion to impingement (ROM-I), range of motion to dislocation (ROM-D) and peak resisting moment (PRM) were determined. Computer simulation was used to evaluate the range of motion of the hip joint at different prosthesis positions.Results Finite element analysis showed: (1) Increasing the ratio of head/neck increased the ROM-I values and moderately increased ROM-D and PRM values. Increasing the head size significantly increased PRM and to some extent ROM-I and ROM-D values, which suggested that there would be a greater likelihood of dislocation. (2) Increasing the anteversion angle increased the ROM-I, ROM-D, PRM, energy required for dislocation (ENERGY D) and DRI values, which would increase the stability of the joint. (3) As the chamber angle was increased, ROM-I, ROM-D, PRM, Energy-D and DRI values were increased, resulting in improved joint stability. Chamber angles exceeding 55 resulted in increases in ROM-I and ROM-D values, but decreases in PRM, Energy-D, and DRI values, which, in turn, increased the likelihood of dislocation. (4) The cup, which was reduced posteriorly, reduced ROM-I values (2.1-5.3-) and increased the DRI value (0.073). This suggested that the posterior high side had the effect of 10 anteversion angle.Conclusions Increasing the head/neck ratio increases joint stability. Posterior high side reduced the range of motion of the joint but increased joint stability; Increasing the anteversion angle increases DRI values and thus improve joint stability; Increasing the chamber angle increases DRI values and improves joint stability. However, at angles exceeding 55, further increases in the chamber angle result in decreased DRI values and reduce the stability of the joint.

Abstract:Verifying large industrial designs is getting harder each day. The current verification methodologies are not able to guarantee bug free designs. Some recurrent questions during a design verification are: Which modules are most likely to contain undetected bugs? In which modules the verification team should concentrate their effort? This information is very useful, because it is better to start verifying the most bug-prone modules. In this work we present a novel approach to answer these questions. In order to identify these bug-prone modules, the revision history of the design is used. Using information of an academic experiment, we demonstrate that there is a close relationship between bugs/changes history and future bugs. Our results show that allocating modules for verification based on bugs/changes leaded to the coverage of 91.67% of future bugs, while random based strategy covered only 37.5% of the future bugs.

Abstract:Introduction: Dislocation after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is the most common cause of revision hip surgery in the United States, ahead of aseptic loosening and infection, and is responsible for considerable economic cost related to frequent readmission and/or revision surgery. The aim of this article is to identify the clinical and radiological factors related to the unstable total hip replacement. Methods: We performed a literature search to assess current strategies to define clinical and radiological characteristics of dislocation after primary THA using the PubMed platform. The characteristics related to THA instability were divided into patient related factors, implant related factors and surgeon experience. Results: Patient-related factors for instability identified are: age; inflammatory joint disease; prior hip surgery; preoperative diagnosis; comorbidity; ASA score; presence of spino-pelvic abnormality; and neurological disability. Gender, simultaneous bilateral THA and restrictive postoperative precautions do not influence rate of THA dislocation. Implant related factors identified are: surgical approach; component malposition; femoral head size; and the use of dual-mobility or constrained solution. Surgeon experience also reduces the rate of dislocation. Discussion: Dislocation is a major complication of THAs, and causes include patient-derived factors, surgical factors, or both. It is imperative to determine the cause of the instability via a complete patient and radiographic evaluation and to adjust the reconstruction strategy accordingly.

Abstract:The homeobox factor PDX-1 is a key regulator of pancreatic morphogenesis and glucose homeostasis; targeted disruption of the PDX-1 gene leads to pancreatic agenesis in pdx-1(-/-) homozygotes. Pdx-1 heterozygotes develop normally, but they display glucose intolerance in adulthood. Like certain other homeobox proteins, PDX-1 contains a consensus FPWMK motif that promotes heterodimer formation with the ubiquitous homeodomain protein PBX. To evaluate the importance of PDX-1:PBX complexes in pancreatic morphogenesis and glucose homeostasis, we expressed either wild-type or PBX interaction defective PDX-1 transgenes under control of the PDX-1 promoter. Both wild-type and mutant PDX-1 transgenes corrected glucose intolerance in pdx-1 heterozygotes. The wild-type PDX-1 transgene rescued the development of all pancreatic lineages in pdx-1(-/-) animals, and these mice survived to adulthood. In contrast, pancreata from pdx-1(-/-) mice expressing the mutant PDX-1 transgene were hypoplastic, and these mice died within 3 weeks of birth from pancreatic insufficiency. All pancreatic cell types were observed in pdx-1(-/-) mice expressing the mutant PDX-1 transgene; but the islets were smaller, and increased numbers of islet hormone-positive cells were noted within the ductal epithelium. These results indicate that PDX-1:PBX complexes are dispensable for glucose homeostasis and for differentiation of stem cells into ductal, endocrine, and acinar lineages; but they are essential for expansion of these populations during development.
Long-term results of total hip arthroplasty in severe congenital hip disease: A ten- to 20-year follow-up study

Abstract:Introduction The impact of bone deformities, previous surgeries, and the surgical technique in total hip arthroplasty (THA) for congenital dislocation of the hip (CDH) at a long-term has not been clearly defined yet. In this single-centre observational study we sought to assess patients undergoing THA due to osteoarthritis secondary to severe CDH with low or high dislocation ten- to 20-years after surgery. To determine this purpose, we assessed: (1) THA-related complications and reoperations; (2) the clinical outcome, patients' satisfaction and radiological results; and (3) the possible risk factors for reoperation with particular attention to the surgical technique and the influence of prior surgeries. Hypothesis We hypothesized that an anatomical reconstruction of the hip would decrease the reoperations rates in patients undergoing THA with severe CDH. Methods Seventy-five patients (85 hips) operated between 1999 and 2012 at our large tertiary hospital were analyzed. Fifty-six hips were diagnosed as low dislocation (group 1) and 29 hips as high dislocation (group 2). The existence of prior surgeries was frequent: group 1, pelvic osteotomies 6 hips, femoral osteotomies 7, tectoplasty (shelf) 6, resection arthroplasty 1 and lowering of the greater trochanter 1; group 2 included pelvic osteotomies 10 hips, femoral osteotomies 10, and a femoral lengthening 2. The number of additional procedures during THA was: group 1 (19/56 [34%]), acetabular roof bone autograft 8 hips, acetabular medial wall autograft 2, hardware removal 6, extended femoral osteotomy 2, and a femoral shortening 1; group 2 (20/29 [69%]), acetabular bone autograft 12 hips, medial autograft 1, hardware removal 1, extended femoral osteotomy 2, and a femoral shortening 4 hips. The clinical and the radiological analysis were compared in both groups for a minimum follow-up of ten years. Cox regression models were used to detect risk factors for reoperation. Results Nine patients (13.8%) required reoperation for the following reasons: cup loosening (5 hips), periprosthetic femoral fracture (3) and stem loosening (1); seven had prior surgeries. The 12-year survival rate for reoperation for any reason was 96.3% (95% confidence interval [CI] 91.2–100) in group 1 and 75.7% (95% CI, 65.8–90.8) in group 2 ( p = 0.003). Patients with high dislocation ( p = 0.02, hazard ratio [HR]: 6.25, 95% CI, 1.26–30.9) and those with an acetabular component inclination placed out of the target zone between 35° and 50° ( p = 0.03, HR: 4.27, 95% CI, 1.13–16.1) had a higher risk of reoperation. Discussion An optimal placement of the acetabular component decreased the reoperation rates in patients undergoing THA for severe CDH. Hips with high dislocation and the existence of prior surgery can affect THA implantation. Level of evidence III; retrospective; comparative.

Multivariate Analysis of Risk Factors for In-Hospital Dislocation Following Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty

Abstract:Background: Early dislocation following primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a rare but devastating complication and represents a source of patient morbidity and financial burden to the healthcare system. The objective of this study was to identify patient characteristics and comorbidities that are associated with increased early in-hospital dislocation rates following primary THA. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using patient data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database; we identified patients who had undergone THA from 2016 to 2019 and compared those with an early periprosthetic dislocation prior to discharge to those without. The patient characteristics and comorbidities were compared using univariate analysis with a subsequent investigation of statistically significant variables using multivariate analysis. The variables were compared using chi square, Fisher's exact test, and independent sample t-tests with data assessed using odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of 5151 patients sustained an early dislocation compared to 362,743 who did not. Those who sustained an in-hospital dislocation were more likely to share the following characteristics: female sex (OR 1.21, p 70 (OR 1.45, p < 0.01), Caucasian ethnicity (OR 1.22, p < 0.01), SLE (OR 1.87, p < 0.01), and Parkinson's disease (OR 1.93, p < 0.01). Certain characteristics were also associated with decreased odds of having an in-hospital dislocation including elective surgery (OR 0.14, p < 0.01), tobacco use (OR 0.8, p < 0.01), diabetes without complications (OR 0.87, p < 0.01), and a history of heart valve replacement (OR 0.81, p < 0.01). The length of stay was significantly longer (4.7 days vs. 2.3 days) as was the total hospital charges (USD 66,388) for the early in-hospital dislocation group. Conclusions: Several patient characteristics and comorbidities are associated with early in-hospital dislocation episodes following total hip arthroplasty including female sex, age > 70, non-elective surgery, SLE, and Parkinson's. This information may be useful to help guide intraoperative implant selection and/or postoperative protocol in select patient populations to limit early instability as well as decrease the financial burden associated with this postoperative complication.

Abstract:Dislocation and instability of primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) is the leading cause for revision surgery, linked with significant financial burden and patient dissatisfaction. It is a multifactorial complication and requires accurate diagnosis and identification of the causative factors, as well as good preoperative planning for revision surgery. Despite all the best efforts, revision can lead to disappointing and frustrating results. We present a complex case of recurrent THA instability that required multiple operations before the identification of the main cause led to a satisfactory outcome. In addition, this is, to our knowledge, the first report of an Aesculap Plasmacup (Aesculap, Tuttlingen, Germany) liner dissociation and the first case where a previously well-united intertrochanteric fracture has been directly linked to recurrent instability. We aim to raise awareness of the complexity of such complications and the need for careful assessment of all the possible causes.

Abstract:Dislocation after hip replacement occurs at an overall incidence of 2% to 3% and has significant cost and morbidity implications. Statistically increased incidence is observed in females and in the elderly, and after reoperation procedures. Specific causes include cup malrotation, trochanteric migration, and decreased femoral offset. Head size, leg length, and postoperative mobilization have not proven to be causative factors, but the posterior exposure statistically and consistently is associated with increased instability. Extended acetabular walls do lessen the incidence of dislocation in the primary but even more significantly in the revision procedure. Early (< 3 months) dislocations successfully are treated by 4 to 8 weeks of immobilization in 60% to 70% of instances. The most successful reoperations are those in which the specific cause of the dislocation has been defined. The success rate is approximately 80% for cup reorientation and trochanteric advancement. Nonspecific or ill defined causes are managed successfully by surgical intervention in only approximately 50% of cases. With extensive soft tissue compromise, limited experience with certain salvage options include the bipolar implant with a reported success rate of approximately 80%. Captive articular designs also seem to be successful in approximately 70% of instances but with relatively short term followup and lingering concerns regarding the long term integrity of the fixation.

Abstract:Amputation secondary to vascular complications of recurrent dislocations after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is an extremely rare. We describe an unusual case of above-knee amputation resulting from vascular complications after recurrent dislocations of a THA. A 63-year-old male patient with walking pain and limp has a history of acetabular fracture and central dislocation of the femoral head. He was diagnosed as post-traumatic arthritis and subluxation of the femoral head and suffered from four similar dislocations in 210 days after the THA. The patient received conservative treatment after every hip dislocation. However, four months after the fourth reduction, the emergent femoral artery and popliteal artery exploration and catheter thrombectomy were performed at another hospital. An ipsilateral above-knee amputation was done after sepsis and failure of the revascularization procedure. Clinicians should be cognizant that above-knee amputation resulting from vascular complications after recurrent dislocations of a THA may occur. The lack of adherence to critical treatment may have led to the severe outcome of amputation. In conclusion, patient education and compliance are essential for both the treatment of hip dislocations and arterial occlusion. More active and effective measures should be used to prevent such catastrophic events.

Abstract:Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most effective surgical procedures. It improves quality of life, increases range of motion, and reduces pain in patients with hip joint degeneration. THA allows patients to return to everyday social and professional activities. Therefore, today it is the best approach to treatment of several chronic conditions affecting the hip joint, including advanced degenerative diseases, avascular necrosis, and some traumatic events. The aim of this study was to present the mechanism of hip prosthesis dislocation, associated risk factors, and the factors reducing the risk of dislocation, as well as its consequences and methods of risk minimization. Hip dislocation is a common complication following THA. It is responsible for up to 2% to 3% failures of primary replacements, increasing even to 10% in extreme cases of patients highly predisposed to this condition. In most cases, technical errors during implant placement are responsible for the incidence. The measures taken to prevent complications include activities aimed at correct implant insertion and the selection of the most appropriate type of implant for the patient, depending on individual needs. We summarized the current knowledge of implant dislocation to help surgeons understand the changes in biomechanics of the hip after its replacement and the impact of each particular element that participates in it. This knowledge can enable a surgeon choose the most favorable surgical method and the most appropriate implant to reduce the risk of implant dislocation.
Evaluation of the rate of post-operative dislocation in patients with ipsilateral valgus knee deformity after primary total hip arthroplasty

Abstract:PurposeThere is scant literature on the evaluation of dislocation after total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with ipsilateral valgus knee deformity. This study aimed to investigate the post-operative dislocation rate in patients with valgus knee deformity who underwent ipsilateral THA and identify whether ipsilateral valgus knee deformity increases the dislocation rate after THA.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed patients with valgus knee deformity who underwent ipsilateral THA in our institution from January 2016 to December 2018. Each hip with ipsilateral valgus knee deformity was matched with a hip without valgus knee deformity according to sex, affected side, and date of surgery. The primary outcome was the dislocation rate after THA. Univariate analyses were initially used to compare data between the dislocation group and the non-dislocation group. Independent risk factors for dislocation were determined using multivariate logistic regression.ResultsThere were 257 THAs with ipsilateral valgus knee deformity (valgus knee group) and 257 THAs without valgus knee deformity (control group). The valgus knee group showed a significantly higher dislocation rate than the control group (9.7% versus 1.6%, p < 0.001). Older age (p = 0.020) and malposition of the acetabular cup (p = 0.048) were independent risk factors of post-operative dislocation.ConclusionPatients with valgus knee deformity have a higher risk of dislocation after ipsilateral THA. If ipsilateral THA and total knee arthroplasty must be performed successively, total knee arthroplasty may have an earlier priority than THA.

Levodopa-Carbidopa Intestinal Gel Injection for Patient with Severe Parkinson's Disease Followed by Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract:Background: Patients with Parkinson's disease have a high dislocation rate after total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study describes a case with severe Parkinson's disease who developed rapidly destructive coxarthrosis (RDC) and underwent THA using a dual mobility cup after a levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) infusion. Case presentation: The patient is a 59-year-old female with a ten-year history of Parkinson's disease, which was first treated with oral levodopa. The patient developed RDC of the right hip joint. However, THA was difficult owing to Parkinson's disease and its treatment side effects, such as wearing-off, dyskinesia, and freezing of the gait, Thus, LCIG was initiated, and improvement in wearing-off and dyskinesia was observed. Two months after the LCIG therapy, the disease was controlled well. THA was subsequently performed using a dual mobility cup to prevent postoperative dislocation. Postoperatively, LCIG therapy was continuously administered to carefully manage the disease, which was controlled well with no increase in wearing-off and dyskinesia after surgery. At 1 year after surgery, the walking speed, stride length, and the Harris hip score improved compared to preoperatively. The UPDRS III motor score improved to eight without signs of wearing-off or dyskinesia. The Hoehn-Yahr scale was II in the "on" period and remained unchanged 1 year after surgery. The patient could walk without a cane and had satisfactory functional outcomes. Conclusion: This case proved that LCIG treatment performed preoperatively, followed by THA using a dual mobility cup, and strict management of Parkinson's disease could result in a satisfactory clinical course without recurrence of wearing-off and dyskinesia. Similar procedures may benefit other patients with Parkinson's disease who have previously been deemed unsuitable for THA.
