Abstract:Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a clinical and pathophysiological syndrome in which the pulmonary artery or its branches are blocked by endogenous and exogenous emboli. PE is a common and potentially fatal cardiovascular disease. The main mechanism of its occurrence is the detachment of blood clots in the bloodstream and their movement to the pulmonary blood vessels, ultimately leading to pulmonary vascular obstruction. [ 1 ] If this condition is not diagnosed and treated in a timely manner, it may rapidly deteriorate and even be fatal. PE includes pulmonary thromboembolism, fat, amniotic fluid, air embolisms, and other types. Due to the lack of suitable and simple noninvasive screening methods, the exact onset of PE is not yet fully understood. [ 2 ] Current data show that the incidence of asymptomatic PE ranges from 40% to 49%, and approximately 40% of PE patients seek medical attention in cardiology. [ 3 , 4 ] Most cardiology patients have basic diseases such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, and heart failure. Therefore, when the patient's symptoms manifest as chest pain, chest tightness, etc, it is easy to cause misdiagnosis. [ 5 ] The nonspecific clinical manifestations of PE and the limitations of imaging examinations result in high misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis in cardiology. Long misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis are not conducive to the treatment and prognosis of patients, and even lead to patient death. [ 6 ] Therefore, early identification and accurate diagnosis of PE have important clinical significance. The study aims to explore in depth the clinical manifestations and misdiagnosis factors of PE patients in cardiology. By analyzing the clinical characteristics, auxiliary examination results, and prognosis of patients, this paper aims to find early diagnostic and differential diagnostic indicators.
