Abstract:By reacting an asymmetric semi-rigid V-shaped linker H(3)dpob (H(3)dpob = 3-(2'3'-dicarboxylphenoxy)benzoic acid) and Ln(NO3)(3)center dot 6H(2)O, nine novel Ln-based luminescent materials, from 1D to 3D, namely {[Eu.dpob).phen)]center dot H2O}(n) (1), {[Ln(Hdpob)(ox)(0.5)(H2O)(2)]}(n) (Ln = Eu(2), Sm(3), Gd(4), Tb(5)), {[Eu(dpob)(H2O)(2)]center dot 0.5H(2)O}(n) (6), and {[Ln(dpob)(H2O)(2)]center dot mH(2)O} n (Ln = Eu(7), Gd(8), Tb(9), m = 0.5 for 7 and 9; m = 1 for 8) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline; H(2)ox = oxalic acid) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and PXRD. The crystal structures of 1-9 indicate that the coordination modes and coordination configuration of the H(3)dpob ligand play critical roles in the formation of the lanthanide architectures. Complexes 1-5 display multiple structures from double-stranded 1D chains to 4-connected 2D layers, through [Eu-2(CO2)(4)] or [Eu-2(CO2)(2)] dinuclear units with different auxiliary ligands. Complexes 6 and 7 are genuine supramolecular isomers which are induced by the concentration effect. 6 possesses a 2D kgd network with a Schlafli symbol of (4(3))(2)(4(6).6(6).8(3)) built from 6-connected [Eu-2(CO2)(2)] units and 3-connected H(3)dpob, which further connects to a (3,8)-connected tfz-d topology through O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds. 7 displays a 3D (3,6)-connected rtl network with the Schlafli symbol (4.6(2))(2)(4(2).6(10).8(3)). Eu complexes 1, 2, 6, and 7 as well as Tb complexes 5 and 9 could provide intense and bright characteristic D-5(0) -> F-7(J)/D-5(4) -> F-7(J) red/green luminescence under UV excitation in the solid state at 298 K and 77 K. The calculated singlet and triplet energies of H(3)dpob as well as phen and H(2)ox ligands indicate that these ligands act as antenna chromophores that are able to efficiently absorb and transfer energy to Ln(III) ions. In complexes 1, 2 and 5, ligand-to-metal energy transfer processes could occur in mixed ligands. However, these processes occurred in a single H3dpob ligand in complexes 6 and 7. With careful adjustment of the relative concentration of the lanthanide ions and by varying the excitation wavelengths of {[Gd0.92Eu0.04Tb0.04(dpob)(H2O)(2)]center dot 0.5H(2)O} n (10), tunable yellow (CIE coordinate: 0.51, 0.40) to white-light (CIE coordinate: 0.33, 0.34) emission has been obtained.

Abstract:A series of lanthanide coordination polymers(LnCPs) containing both light and heavy rare-earth elements, namely {[Eu-2(pydc)(3)(H2O)]2H(2)O}(n) (1-Eu, H(2)pydc = pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid), [Ln(pyc)(2)(Hpyc) (NO3)] n (Ln = Nd (2-Nd), Sm (3-Sm), Eu (4-Eu), Gd (5-Gd), Tb (6-Tb), Ho (7-Ho), and Er (8-Er), Hpyc = pyridine-3-carboxylic acid), has been synthesized under hydro(solvo) thermal conditions and fully characterized. The crystal structure analysis indicates that in situ decarboxylation of H2pydc occurred in the synthesis process of 2-Nd-8-Er. Coordination polymer 1-Eu displays a 3-D pcu network with centralsymmetric quad-core structural units [Eu4(COO)(6)] linked by 1-D chains. 2-Nd-8-Er are of triple helical chain enantiomeric pair 6(1)/6(5) axis, and can be further linked through two separate kinds of H. bonding interaction to form a mirror symmetrical 3-D framework; the final topological symbol of the jointly connected network is rare {4(7)center dot 6(8)}. Solid-state luminescence studies show that the emission spectra of these LnCPs cover both the visible and near-infrared luminescence region. 2-Nd exhibits characteristic F-4(3/2) -> I-4(J/2) (J = 9, 11, 13) transition NIR emission. 1-Eu and 4-Eu provide characteristic D-5(o) -> F-7(J) intense and bright red luminescence, while 4-Eu exhibits better luminescence performance because of the presence of the O-H oscillators within 1-Eu. 6-Tb exhibits characteristic D-5(4) -> F-7(J) intense and bright green luminescence. Furthermore, through doping with PMMA polymer, the luminescence properties of 4-Eu and 6-Tb are all improved. The results show the best doping concentration is 4%. The thermal stabilities of 4-Eu-PMMA and 6-Tb-PMMA increased from 270 to 315 degrees C when compared with single coordination polymers 4-Eu and 6-Tb. The co-doping of 4-Eu, 5-Gd, and 6-Tb (0.92/0.04/0.04) with PMMA at a total concentration of 4% resulted in a tunable luminescence material W-(4-Eu,W- 5-Gd,W- 6-Tb)-PMMA film. When excited at 285 nm, W-(4-Eu,W-5-Gd,W-6-Tb)-PMMA shows white-light emission with the CIE chromaticity coordinates of (0.33, 0.35). The lifetime of Eu3+ ions in W(4-Eu, 5-Gd, 6-Tb)-PMMA increased from 1032.24 mu s to 1272.26 mu s when compared with 4-Eu-PMMA, and the efficiency of energy transfer (eta(ET)) from Tb3+ to Eu3+ within the co-doping PMMA film could be estimated to be 29.9%.
Acetate-Decorated Tri-Ln(III)-Containing Antimonotungstates with a Tetrahedral {WO4} Group as a Structure-Directing Template and Their Luminescence Properties

Abstract:Four acetate-decorated tri-Ln-substituted trimeric antimonotungstates (AMTs) Na17{(WO4)[Ln(H2O)(Ac)(B-α-SbW9O31(OH)2)]3}·50H2O [Ln = Eu3+ (1), Dy3+ (2), Ho3+ (3), or Gd3+ (4)] were isolated by reaction of Na9[B-α-SbW9O33]·19.5H2O, Na2WO4·2H2O, and Ln(NO3)·6H2O in a HAc/NaAc buffer solution. Interestingly, a tetrahedral {WO4} group plays a significant structure-directing template role in the formation of their polyoxoanions. With regard to luminescence properties, with a change in the excitation wavelength, it is available to switch emission colors from orange to red for 1, blue to green for 2, and blue to yellow for 3. Under the O → W LMCT excitation, energy transfer from AMT fragments to Eu3+, Dy3+, and Ho3+ ions occurs because Ln3+ ions can absorb energy from O → W LMCT emission of AMT segments. The temperature-dependent luminescence behaviors (25-720 °C) of 1 together with auxiliary emitting photographs illustrate that the growing emission in the temperature range of 25-100 °C results from the loss of lattice water molecules, the decline of emission between 100 and 320 °C may occur because crystals become amorphous powders, the slow emission decay (220-320 °C) is due to the case that the emission enhancement derived from the removal of water ligands on Eu3+ ions in some degree compensates for the decline of emission intensity, the sharp decrease in emission (320-520 °C) may result from the change in the coordinate environment of Eu3+ ions, and the weak recovery of emission (620-720 °C) may be ascribed to the formation of new phase Na0.5Eu0.5WO4. This work lays a significant foundation for preparing novel POM-based luminescent materials.
Luminescent Dimeric Oxalate-Bridged Eu3+/Tb3+-Implanted Arsenotungstates: Tunable Emission, Energy Transfer, and Detection of Ba2+ Ion in Aqueous Solution

Abstract:Two cases of lanthanide (Ln)-implanted arsenotungstates, K17Na2H5[{(As2W19O67(H2O))Ln(H2O)2}2(C2O4)]·87H2O (Ln = Eu (1), Ln = Tb (2)) and their codoped derivatives EuxTb1-x-POM (x = 0.01 (3), x = 0.04 (4), x = 0.1 (5), x = 0.2 (6)) were prepared and further characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectra, and thermogravimetric analyses. An X-ray structural analysis of 1 and 2 indicates that they both present a dimeric oxalate-bridged Ln3+-implanted lanthanide arsenotungstate polyanion structure. Under the O → W LMCT excitation at 265 nm of arsenotungstate polyanions, the emissions of Ln3+ ions in 1 and 2 are sensitized and the lifetimes are prolonged. Codoped compounds 3-6 demonstrate a color-tunable emission from green to red by adjusting the Eu3+/Tb3+ ratio. Emission spectra and time-resolved emission spectroscopic studies were performed for 3 to further authenticate the energy transfer processes from excited arsenotungstates to the Eu3+ and Tb3+ metal ions and also between the Eu3+ and Tb3+ centers. More interestingly, 1 is an effective fluorescent probe for the recognition and detection of Ba2+ ions in aqueous solution. The optical properties of the Ln-implanted arsenotungstate compounds not only expressly reveal distinctive energy transfer processes in those compounds but also broaden the application of POM-based materials in the fluorescence sensing field.
2D Lanthanide MOFs Driven by a Rigid 3,5-Bis(3-carboxy-phenyl)pyridine Building Block: Solvothermal Syntheses, Structural Features, and Photoluminescence and Sensing Properties

Abstract:A new series of five lanthanide(III) metal-organic frameworks with a general formula of [Ln(3)(bcpb)(4)(mu-HCOO)( mu-H2O)(H2O)(2)(DEF)](n) (1-5) was generated by solvothermal reactions from Ln(NO3)(3).6H(2)O {Ln = Eu (1), Tb (2), Gd (3), Dy (4), and Sm (5)} and 3,5-bis(3-carboxyphenyl) pyridine (H(2)bcpb) in an aqueous N, N-diethylformamide (DEF) medium. The obtained products were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The latter reveals that all compounds (1-5) are isostructural and feature very intricate 2D metal-organic frameworks. These were topologically analyzed, revealing a very complex hexanodal underlying net that can be simplified further to a binodal 3,5-connected layer with the 3,5L52 topology. Solid-state photoluminescence properties of 1-5 were studied in detail. Compound 1 exhibits a strong red luminescence upon excitation at 338 nm and its lifetime is 532 mu s. Compound 2 shows an intense green luminescence upon excitation at 336 and its lifetime is 981 mu s. The triplet state ((3)pi pi*) of bcpb(2-) studied by using the Gd(III) derivative 3 demonstrated that the ligand effectively populates Tb(III) emission (Phi = 70.96%), whereas the corresponding Eu(III) derivative 1 shows a weak luminescence efficiency (Phi = 15.81%) as the triplet state of bcpb(2-) has a poor match with the D-5(0) energy level of Eu(III). A notable feature of 1 is its remarkable sensing ability for Cu2+ ions and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP). Besides, a series of heterobimetallic Tb-based MOFs, [Tb3(1-x)Eu3x(bcpb)(4)(mu-HCOO)(mu-H2O)(H2O)(2)(DEF)](n) {x = 0.001, 0.002, 0.003, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20} (compounds 2a-2j, respectively), was prepared. The luminescence studies reveal that the simultaneous presence of the characteristic sharp emission bands of Eu3+ and Tb3+ allows the tuning of the photoluminescence colors of such materials by adjusting the doping concentration of the Eu3+ ions.

Abstract:This special issue of the International Journal of Pharmacy Practice, focused on pharmacy practice and public health, is important for two main reasons. The importance of pharmacy practice contributions to public health research, teaching and practice is crucial when considering how pharmacists can positively influence public health. Secondly, it is important to see the international reach of public health research and/or interventions directed by pharmacists. Among many other facets of pharmacy practice, public health is not a new arena of emphasis. Public health has always been a vital corollary of the role pharmacists play in assisting patients, fellow health professions and society at large. Perhaps what is novel is the continuing need for pharmacy practice to impact public health efforts, and for us to share what we are doing and practising with a hoped-for emphasis on increasing public health related activities, teaching and research. There is need to share what we know, what we have studied in research projects and what we propose as solutions to impact public health on a global scale through pharmacy practice and beyond. The papers in this special issue were submitted after a call was made for papers highlighting public health within pharmacy practice domains. These papers are all so very nicely done and provide a perspective on the public health related research, education and outreach with which the authors and their colleagues are involved. The breadth of these papers encompasses the world and provides insights on current and planned research and teaching that each of us can be involved with now and in the future. Public health pharmacy provides crucial, necessary components of meeting public health goals and objectives, these goals are ever expanding and the impact pharmacy practice can have upon them is most significant as well. Abstract:Luminescence behavior of Eu(TTFA)3 and TbSSA co-doped gel has been investigated. The excitation and emission spectra of the EuCl3 and thenoyltrifluoroacetone co-doped gel appeared to exhibit intramolecular energy transfer from the coordinated thenoyltrifluoroacetonate to the europium ions, and the luminescence behavior of sulphosalicylic acid and TbCl3 co-doped gel also indicated the synthesis of TbSSA in the gel. The luminescence behavior of x% Eu(TTFA)3 and (1–x)% TbSSA (x=0–1) co-doped gel changed significantly with the ratio of Eu(TTFA)3 and TbSSA. By adjusting the ratio of the Eu(TTFA)3 and TbSSA in the gel, the luminescence of different colors which resulted from the mixture of the emission bands of Eu3+ ions and Tb3+ ions can be observed.

Abstract:Monoclinic AgTbW2O8:Eu3+ crystals were prepared by a simple one-step hydrothermal method. The phase, morphology and luminescent properties of the obtained phosphors were systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and photoluminescence(PL). The effects of solution pH, W/Tb molar ratios and reaction temperatures as well as reaction times on the size and morphology of the final products were discussed, and the possible formation mechanism of the almond-like structure was proposed. The down-conversion luminescence properties and energy transfer behavior of the AgTbW2O8:Eu3+ phosphors were studied under ultraviolet light excitation. The emission lights were obtained from green to yellow-green to yellow to red by setting different ratios of Tb3+/Eu3+. The temperature-dependent fluorescence test data showed that AgTbW2O8:Eu3+ phosphors have good temperature stability. In addition, by doping alkali metal ions Li+, Na+, K+ in AgTbW2O8:Eu3+ phosphors, it is found that the luminescence intensity of phosphors doped with alkali metal ions is enhanced compared with that of phosphors without alkali metal ions, and the phosphor doped with K+ has the largest luminescence intensity, which is due to the introduction of K+ making the crystal field produce the greatest asymmetry.

Probe of Structural, Optical, and Luminous Attributes of Tunable Color Emitting Eu3+/Tb3+ Co-Doped GdAlO3 Nanophosphors

Abstract:A series of Gd 1 – x – y Eu x Tb y AlO 3 ( x = 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07 mol, y = 0.03 mol) tunable color emanating phosphors were synthesized by simplistic low temperature solution combustion process at 600°C. The X-ray powder diffraction and Rietveld refinement analysis confirmed the formation of single-phased co-doped nanophosphor at 1000°C. The synthesized nanophosphors were crystallized in orthorhombic crystal system having P nma (62) space group. The morphological and photoluminescence characteristics of Gd 1 – x – y Eu x Tb y AlO 3 phosphors were validated using field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, excitation, and emission spectra studies. The optical band gap values of co-doped nanocrystalline phosphors were also evaluated. The detailed analysis of excitation and emission spectra of synthesized nanophosphors revealed that Tb 3+ effectively sensitized Eu 3+ ion and the energy transfer can be controlled by carefully adjusting the amounts of Eu 3+ to achieve color-tunable emission. The non-radiant energy loss phenomenon was observed at x = 0.05(Eu 3+ ) in Gd 1 – x – 0.03 AlO 3 : x Eu 3+ , 0.03Tb 3+ phosphors. Commission International de I'Eclairage 1931 color coordinates ( x , y ) of co-doped samples have been extracted from emission spectra avail of photoluminescent data. The result suggested that hue could have been vigilant in greenish, orangish red and dark red color region with divergences in Eu 3+ ( x = 0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07). Other pertinent photometric assets, i.e. correlated color temperature and color purity of synthesized co-doped nanocrystalline materials were determined as well. This study advances understanding of rare earth ion co-doping effects, also providing new design opportunities for enhanced luminous materials for usage in light emitting diodes, lasers, displays, and solid-state technological innovations.

Abstract:Nanorod-like Ca 5 (PO 4 ) 3 (OH): xEu 3+ , yTb 3+ (x + y = 12 mol%) phosphors with multicolor tunable emission were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. The structure, morphology and luminescent properties of samples were studied by XRD, EDS, FT-IR, SEM, TEM and PL. The luminescent results demonstrate the existence of energy transfer between Tb 3+ and Eu 3+ in the Tb 3+ , Eu 3+ co-doped sample, and the energy transfer mechanism from Tb 3+ to Eu 3+ in the phosphors were studied. When appropriately modulating the Tb 3+ /Eu 3+ doping concentration, various emission colors can be obtained and tuned from yellow-green, yellow, and orange to red through single excitation energy.

Abstract:A series of YGa1.5Al1.5(BO3)(4): Tb3+, Eu3+ inorganic luminescence materials were successfully synthesized through a high-temperature solid-state reaction. Powder X-ray diffraction was used to confirm the crystal structure and phase purity of the obtained samples. Then, scanning electron microscopy elemental mapping was taken to characterize the distribution of the doped ions. Detailed investigations on the photoluminescence emission and excitation spectra and fluorescence lifetime revealed that trivalent europium ions can be well sensitized by trivalent terbium ions under near-ultraviolet excitation. Additionally, the energy transfer from Tb3+ to Eu3+ can be controlled to realize multi-colour emissions covering the green to red visible region. Concentration quenching does not take place in Tb3+ or Eu3+ singularly-doped YGAB due to its structure isolation. Therefore, satisfactory luminescence properties related to the structure specificity make these phosphors suitable for WLEDs.

Abstract:Two series of Dy3+:NaTb(WO4)2 and Dy3+:NaGd(WO4)2 phosphors doped with different Dy3+ concentrations were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. Dy3+→Tb3+ energy transfer and fluorescence properties of Dy3+:NaTb(WO4)2 phosphors doped with different Dy3+ concentrations were firstly investigated by exciting at 455 nm. Strong Tb3+ green fluorescence around 545 nm was observed in the Dy3+:NaTb(WO4)2 phosphors due to the efficient Dy3+→Tb3+ energy transfer. Excited at 455 nm, polarized spectroscopic properties of a (9.28 at.%)Dy3+:NaTb(WO4)2 crystal grown by the Czochralski method were studied at room temperature. The peak absorption cross-sections of the crystal at 454.6 nm, corresponding to the 6H15/2 → 4I15/2 transition of Dy3+, are 2.74 × 10−21 and 3.93 × 10−21 cm2 for σ and π polarizations, respectively. The peak emission cross-sections of the crystal, corresponding to the 5D4→7F5 transition of Tb3+, are 5.6 × 10−21 at 545 nm and 11.5 × 10−21 cm2 at 548.6 nm for σ and π polarizations, respectively. Tb3+ green fluorescence around 545 nm was obviously enhanced in the crystal excited at 455 nm due to the Dy3+→Tb3+ energy transfer. The results show that Dy3+ can be used as sensitizing ions to enhance the visible fluorescence of Tb3+ in the NaTb(WO4)2 phosphor and crystal excited at 455 nm.

Abstract:Self-activated and lanthanide ions-activated Gd2B2WO9 phosphors were synthesized by using the traditional solid-state reaction. The dependence of the phase structure, photoluminescence (PL) and temporal decay properties of the phosphors on the lanthanide dopants was investigated. It is revealed that the Gd2B2WO9 lattice can be used as a luminescence species as well as a sensitizer of a collection of lanthanide ions. The Gd2B2WO9 lattice shows blue luminescence under an ultraviolet (UV) excitation at room temperature. When Gd2B2WO9 is doped with different lanthanide ions (such as Tb3+ and Eu3+), the luminescence from both host lattice and lanthanide ions can be obtained. Tunable PL under a single-wavelength excitation can be realized by adjusting the dopant type and amount. The energy transfer from host lattice to lanthanide dopants was also studied.

Abstract:A series of single doped (Eu3+ or Tb3+) and codoped (Eu3+ and Tb3+) phosphors were synthesized by solution combustion method. The single doped NaSrBO3:Tb3+ and NaSrBO3:Eu3+ emit green and red emission due to the characteristic 4f–4f transition of the Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions, respectively, under respective excitation wavelengths. Whereas, under Tb3+ excitation, the co-doped NaSrBO3:Tb3+/Eu3+ phosphors showed tunable emission upon varying the Eu3+/Tb3+ content ratio ascribed due to the energy transfer from Tb3+ to Eu3+ ions. Instead of this the emission spectrum of the codoped phosphors also exhibited strong dependence on the excitation wavelength in the range from 240 to 394 nm. The shift in the emission color (green–yellow–red) with increasing excitation wavelength, had been attributed to the presence of multiple states of Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions in the material, that become active at different excitation wavelength. The energy transfer mechanism and luminescence dynamics were investigated in the framework of the lifetime of the excited states of Eu3+ and Tb3+. The results imply that the present phosphor with multicolor emission might be promising for optoelectronic applications.

Abstract:A series of lanthanide complexes with ligand terphenyl-2,5-dimethy1-4',4 "-dicarboxylic acid (H(2)TDDA) were synthesized using hydrothermal process. The chemical composition of the complexes was measured as Ln(2)(TDDA)(3)(H2O)(6), (Ln = Eu, Tb, Eu1-xTbx). The luminescent properties of the synthesized complexes were investigated and there is incomplete energy transfer from the ligand to lanthanide ions. By synthesizing the mixed lanthanide complexes having both Eu3+ and Tb3+, the intensity of lights emitted by not only ligand but also Eu3+ becomes stronger than those in single Eu3+ complex. As the ligand emits blue fluorescence under UV-light and the characteristic emissions from Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions are shown as red and green, the mixed complexes can emit ideal white light. (Eu0.001Tb0.999)(2)(TDDA)(3)(H2O)(6) has been proved to emit ideal white light. The color coordinate of the complex reaches (0.340, 0.358). Its color temperature is 5199 K, and its CRI is 82%. The white emitting complex can be further applied as a single phosphor to the white-emitting devices like WLEDs.

Abstract:In this paper, color-tunable Gd2O2CN2:Tb3+,Eu3+ phosphors were obtained by co-doping Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions into Gd2O2CN2 host and singly varying the Eu3+ doping concentration. The characteristics of the crystal structure, photoluminescence lifetime and photoluminescence of Tb3+, Eu3+ single-doped and Tb3+ and Eu3+ co-doped Gd2O2CN2, were carefully investigated by XRD, FTIR, PL decay curves and photoluminescence (PL). The results indicated that Tb3+ single-doped Gd2O2CN2 phosphor shows a green emission, and by increasing Eu3+ content, Gd2O2CN2:Tb3+, Eu3+ phosphors emit green to orange and then to red light under the excitation of 379nm.

Abstract:Photoluminescent (PL) energy transfer (ET) between two typical rare earth activators Tb3+ and Eu3+ is utilized to achieve color-tunable emission and the color range is apparently dependent on the ET efficiency. In the target host ZnGdB5O10 (ZGBO), the relatively low symmetric coordination environment of rare earth cation not only suppresses the parity-forbidden law of the 4f-4f transitions of Tb3+ in the near-UV region, but also enhances the internal quantum efficiency (IQE), where the optimal IQE is 65.61% for ZGBO:0.8Tb3+. Moreover, its ET to Eu3+ is highly efficient, i.e. 94.71% in ZGBO:0.8Tb3+, 0.10Eu3+, which eventually leads to a wide range of color-tunable emissions from green (0.2915, 0.5915) to red (0.6207, 0.3731). The systematical PL spectra study on Tb3+/Eu3+ singly- and co-doped phosphors suggests the ET mechanism is through the electric dipole-dipole interaction according to the Inokuti-Hirayama (I-H) model. Additionally, the in-situ high temperature PL spectra indicate the very high thermal stability of ZnGd0.19Tb0.8Eu0.01B5O10, indicating the potential candidate to the near-UV light emitting diodes pumped phosphors.

Abstract:Novel phosphors of Eu3+,Tb3+ or Bi3+ doped Gd2GeO5 were synthesized and their photoluminescent and cathodoluminescent properties were investigated. (Gd1−xEux)2GeO5 and (Gd1−xTbx)2GeO5 formed continuous solid solution in the range of x=0.0–1.0. Gd2GeO5:Eu3+ and Gd2GeO5:Bi3+ presented bright red and blue luminescence for both UV and cathode ray excitation, respectively. While Gd2GeO5:Tb3+ gave bright green cathodoluminescence. In all three phosphors, the energy transfer from Gd3+ to activators (e.g. Eu3+,Tb3+ or Bi3+) occurred.

Abstract:Five Eu(III), four Tb(III) and two Tm(III) multichromophoric complexes (1-Eu, 1-Tb, 2-Eu, 3-Eu, 3-Tb, 3-Tm, 4-Tb, 4-Tm, 5-Eu, 6-Eu and 6-Tb; where 1=tris[dibenzoylmethanido] (4′-chloro-2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine), 2=tris[dibenzoylmethanido] (4′-(9H-carbazol-9yl)-2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine), 3=tris(1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonato), 4=tris[1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonato] (tripyridin-2-ylamine), 5=tris[dibenzoylmethanido][N-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)butyl)-N-(dipyridin-2-yl)amine] and 6=tris[dibenzoylmethanido][N-(6-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)hexyl)-N-(dipyridin-2-yl)amine]) emitting in the blue (Tm), green (Tb) and red (Eu) spectral regions, have been synthesized and characterized. The complexes involve five different coordinating (2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine (terpy); dibenzoylmethane (dbm); 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonato (hfa), tripyridin-2-ylamine (tri-amine) and N-(dipyridin-2-yl)amine (di-amine)) and one non-coordinating (carbazole) units. The synthesis and photophysical properties of these complexes are reported addressing the influence of the various ligands on the lanthanide metal-centered luminescence in CH2Cl2 solution and solid state matrices.
